the much anticipated finished barbie quilt! this may be my largest project to date and i'm so pleased with how it turned out. with the high-loft batting there was no way i was getting it through my home machine, so i had to resort to hand ties instead of machine quilting. so glad to get this one off the shelf and onto my blanket pile!

Making a quilt for my babby, who's due in early October, so I went with some Autumnal prints:

dark hedgerow

Japanese stamps (I had my husband check these to make sure they weren't anything inappropriate

green arrows or possibly trees

squirrel 2: now he has a mushroom

orange background white leaves

yellow Japanese traditional (waves?)

Piecing finished yesterday. The pattern/instructions are from the channel Just Get It Done Quilts, it's one of her quilt in a day stash busters

Bit bigger than I was expecting because I can't visual large numbers in inches and I was too lazy to convert to metric. Whoops!

Two very different future quilt projects: the beach-themed quilt my aunt requested, and the bug-themed quilt I could not resist the fabric for when I went to the local quilt shop

Simple pattern again, very easy to get done in a few hours after I finished work for the day.

Made this one a touch smaller then the other one, and I think I like it better this way. Less waste of fabric too.

Turned out 63” by 72”, which is a nice couch throw. I used seven different prints and a off white/beige for the background and I’m thinking that I might quilt it in gold thread.

Or maybe beige.

… or maybe blue if I really want the quilting to stand out on the outside border. Idk. We’ll see when I get it on the long arm and do a thread audition.

Huh. I just realised this could be done with fat quarters instead of meterage. Four blocks from each fat quarter and you could pick as many as you needed to get the size you wanted. The blocks are only 9.5” unfinished.

Working on the Designer Mystery quilt from 2022 for Fat Quarter Shop. The original finished quilt with the fabric they gave out was really nice.

I clearly don't have that fabric, so I'm winging it with my stash during No-Buy Stash'tember. There were 12 blocks sent out over last year, plus the finishing blocks (4 corners & center, plus log cabin star blocks).

So I'm basically cutting and sewing one block a day until I get to the hellish finishing instructions.

These are the first five blocks. The last pic is how the original pattern with the Nantucket Summer by Moda fabrics.

and yes everyone at the time did try and peg this as some trauma response to my my mum dying when i was 6 and therapise me out of it like. cool theory! unfortunately you see i was Like This when she was alive

the very cool not at all annoying thing about having a parental death (or i guess really any singular major traumatic event? probably?) when you're very young is that people will literally blame every problem on that for the rest of your life forever. if you had symptoms syndrome before no you didn't
