Yay!!! Thank you for the ask! (for my favorite fandom no less🥹) and sry I took a bit to get to this.

Time for my ✨silly little ramblings✨™️

B “A pairing-platonic, romantic or sexual-that you initially didn't consider, but someone changed your mind” : Ooooooo, this is a good one. Well I’m not a big shipper naturally tbh, unless I see undeniable chemistry and/or suggestive scenes between characters, I’m probably just going to ship what was canon— that was until I fully entered tumblr and related fandom spaces. Now I see ships everywhere. Especially with Ao3.

Ao3 has made me ship soooo many ships, the OG being Superarrow/Kariver

More recently tho: Coldflash (my current OTP), Snowest, Hartmon, and I personally prefer them as platonic but I definitely support them as a ship— Barrisco

Also as much as I hate to admit it— I understand Eobarry and why people ship it (One sidedly it’s basically canon) but I still do not like it and definitely don’t ship it. (Ok but how tf could it ever be two sided guys— it’s also creepy af) nvm I’m not jumping into that rabbit hole today.

N “Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)” : Hmm— does more fanfiction count?💀 Ok ok, three things let’s seeeee

1: More merchandise. I finally have a STAR labs sweatshirt and it is one of my most treasured possessions— but I wish there was more options, I wish we could get Ciscos vibe glasses or smth like that (I know we can on ebay and stuff, but it’d be nice if the CW or WB put in merch effort) Ah. The pain of smaller fandoms (and I say this in relation to my other big fandoms being Star Wars and the MCU)

2: Less discourse/hate. I’ve calibrated my space here on tumblr to be on the positive side of the fandom but I remember when I couldn’t look at comment sections without seeing at least 10 hate comments (from other fans may I add). Idk maybe it’s not as bad now. I also notice this was primarily around the topic of shipping; specifically around Westallen vs Snowbarry, I saw some pretty bad stuff on both sides. Personally I just believe in ship and let ship. If you don’t like a ship then that’s fine; but don’t attack the people who do. But like I said; maybe it’s not as bad now. (Sry that was a long one lol)

3: M o r e w h u m p— including taking place in later seasons; 9x4 has so much potential and I really want someone to take advantage of it (I say, knowing full well that I could write it— I can’t though; The Bad Ending is taking up all of my writing time/energy)

Either way; whumpers I love you and I hope more of you find this fandom

T “Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?” :

*Rubs hand together* Oh do I— it’s ramble time

Now as a fanfiction writer, I have to have headcanons; it’s how I make the story and characters work while giving them extra depth. Naturally however; it’s not something I would usually think of outside of that. I have created the most fanfictions for this fandom by far (It was also the first media I ever wrote it for) so naturally I indeed have headcanons that will make their way into my fics.

Oliver trained Team Flash in hand to hand combat Now this one is less of a headcanon and more something I wish happened— cause where tf did they get their training from?? Maybe I’m missing/forgetting something and if so sry my bad— but this seems like something that absolutely could’ve happened. (I’m not counting superhero fight club as canon btw; as fun as it is)

Everyone goes to therapy

Gods this one is more wishful thinking than anything else— I’ll never forgive the CW for having Barry and Iris take couples therapy when what they both need is therapy therapy. The number of life threatening scenarios the entirety of Team Flash has gone through is more than enough to warrant therapy (and some form of PTSD but that’s a whole nother topic). The only possible exception I would make is Barry, because it would not surprise me at all if Joe had him go as a kid and the therapist didn’t believe him about the man in yellow just like everyone else; plenty of people have bad experiences with therapy that make them not want to go and that’s completely understandable.

Team Flash has movie night

You can’t look me in the eye and tell me they don’t.

Barry has claustrophobia

Nothing to support this really, but hey— that’s why it’s a headcanon

Also I have sexuality headcanons for most characters but I’ll do those another time.

2.) Of the ones you've written, what's your slowest slowburn? How slow is it?

Oooh, that is a good question. I admit, I'm impatient. My slowburns are usually still relatively speedy. Though The Pied Piper's Army of Rats does take six fics until Hartley and Cisco finally kiss. And while Hartley and Cisco get together in chapter 2 of 2 in (This Isn't) The Timeline You Were Looking For, in universe it takes them, like... two years to get their act together.

7.) Have you written any romantic couples that you think would be better off as friends? Or even enemies?

So while I do have fun writing Snowbarry at times, I think Caitlin and Barry are better off as friends. They've got a great platonic chemistry on the show, but it's not like with Caitlin and Cisco where I just... can't with the romantic ship. Honestly, I started writing it because I knew someone else who enjoyed the ship and wanted to write something I knew they'd really enjoy. And I don't regret getting into the ship, because they can be very cute to write as a romantic couple, but overall I definitely prefer them with a friendship.

15.) Are there any relationship dynamics/tropes you would never write?

Alpha/beta/omega stuff. I don't mind reading that sometimes, but it's not really my cup of tea and I just can't ever see myself writing any at all. I think it just hits the wrong balance of possessiveness + sex + kink for this ace, especially since it's got that heavy element of unreality going for it.

And I tend to stick with softer kinks in general as the harder stuff are difficult for me to get into the right headspace for. So I'm unlikely to ever have characters go too much beyond spanking or otherwise mildly roughing each other up for kinks that involve some kind of violence in them. At least when it comes to kinky scenes in a fic itself, anyway. A character might have a multitude of kinks that are mentioned, but never actually depicted.

33.) Are there any canon romantic couples, in any media, that you just can't stand?

Gwen/Jack from Torchwood never actually get together, but they are canonically interested in each other and I really hate the ship. Gwen's my least favorite Torchwood character to begin with, so honestly that ship was doomed from the start with me. Likely unsurprisingly that I don't like Gwen/Owen either. Or Gwen/Rhys. Considering she told Rhys that she was cheating on him with Owen and then retconned Rhys immediately after so he wouldn't remember and thus couldn't decide to leave her (and then he winds up married to her)... there are words for that situation, none of them polite.

And while I still think the early flirtations between Oliver and Felicity on Arrow are cute, I think they kinda brought out the worst in each other as romantic partners. Felicity making a scene at Barry and Iris' wedding rehearsal when she mistakenly thought Oliver was proposing to her only to turn around and force Barry and Iris - who'd already had their wedding interrupted by Nazis from another Earth - to share their wedding with her and Oliver... probably the best example right there of Felicity's worst, most self centered impulses getting catered to and Oliver just... goes with what she wants. And while Felicity isn't solely to blame for Oliver growing more rigidly uncompromising as the series went on, she definitely contributed to his slow descent towards becoming an off brand cop in the final season.

Favorite Snowbarry Fics

So I have a bit of free time before things get busy again, and being Snowbarry Trash™ I thought, What better way to spend it than rereading my favorite SB fics????? At first I compiled all the links in one place as a reference for myself, but what the heck, it won’t hurt to put these fics out there again and send the writers some love.

Before anything, a caveat: this is by no means a comprehensive list of all the best SB fics. There are a lot of other great fics out there. Also “favorite” here probably more accurately means “fics I reach for when I’m having a bad day,” lol. So to these writers here, THANK YOU. Your fics really get me going again. (And to other fanfic writers out there, keep writing! You’ll never know when a fic will make someone’s day a little better, as these did for me.)

The fics are below the cut, arranged alphabetically. I put in the summary and a brief gushing of what I liked about them. Happy reading, everyone! Don’t forget to give the ones you like some love!

& If It Never Ends then When Do We Start, by @ttinycourageous

Far too soon, a common occurrence for them, their time together is up. Looking up at him Caitlin wonders how long they’ll be able to keep this going; Barry gone on a mission, she back to the lab ignoring Jay’s advances, both of them under the scrutiny of the agency they work for. How long before her heart gets broken?

“Can you keep a secret?” Barry asks.

[00Q au in which Barry's the spy, and Caitlin one of the scientists providing the gadgets. The two grow closer over the course of several months, mostly due to Barry's insistent inquiring after her real name.]

Spy AU? Secret Identities?? Forbidden Relationship?????? Uh, count me in. What really gets to me about this, though, is that unlike other spy AUs, the language isn’t punchy and action-packed; instead the story’s told with restraint, and the language pulses with quiet longing. Tension and suspense aren’t so much in the external circumstances as in the internal conflict, so the moment that they finally come together is the climax in both external and internal tension. It’s just brilliant. Also I live for coded affectionate exchanges, that whole saying one thing but meaning something else, and it was so well done in this fic.

at first sight, by @tinytendril

College Pride & Prejudice AU. Literature student Barry swears he hates everything about the privileged side of Central City, including one leggy, doe-eyed, bon-mot tossing, label-worshiping vortex of girly vapidness Caitlin Snow. Until, as these things go, he doesn’t, not even by a small measure, and not at all.

I’ve read this so many times I’ve lost count. But really, wow. Barry as Lizzy and Caitlin as Darcy just makes so much sense, and the rest of the cast were slotted so naturally into their P&P counterparts that I couldn’t imagine it any other way. The dialogue’s also very witty. I love how Caitlin calls Barry out for his pretentiousness. (The pretentiousness is so well-done, by the way. I mean, just look at the summary. It’s a mini-adventure into the dictionary.) I always get this sense of vindictive joy when Barry realizes that Caitlin can match him line for line. Ha, you show him, girl. Serves him right for underestimating you. Anywaaay, I could go on, but in short, I love this fic to bits.

Blind Date, by @chasingblue57

Iris just knows that Barry & her TA are perfect for each other, she just needs to get them in the same room [college au].

Iris as a matchmaker, Barry and Caitlin being set up on an awkward blind date, them talking about awkwardness during said blind date... It’s the most adorable thing, I tell you. Even if the same can be said of nearly all of Blue’s fics, this one’s close to my heart.

You're Killer Frost. Caitlin Snow is dead. You deserve to die, too. / Trigger warning.

This technically isn’t SB or even romance. It’s Snowbarisco friendship, and I’m glad it is. It’s also a great rendering of Caitlin’s disjointed, fractured consciousness following her rampage as Killer Frost, and the obsessive repetition of that “you-deserve-to-die” reveals the destructive quality of her guilt. But what really got me was the friendship. I mean, friendship’s usually light and fluffy, but their friendship here is tenacious and stubborn and hopeful, and it’s what saves Caitlin in the end. It’s so precious.

Or 5 Times Caitlin Had Sex with Barry & the 1 Time It Meant Something. "She didn't know what series of events culminated in Barry's mood that night, but she did know it began with him pulling the bottle out of her hand and taking a long swig for himself."

This one needs little explanation. I don’t know about you, but one of the first things I did as a new SB fan was to look for good smut, and this one was the first one I came across. It definitely did not disappoint. It was written way back, but it remains my favorite smutty fic.

AU: In a world where soulmates exist, when your first touch with them shall brand you for life, Barry Allen gets marked. By who he's not quite certain, but he's determined to find out. Caitlin Snow however, she knows... she's just not ready to deal with it's repercussions. Snowbarry.

The angst almost killed me in this one. It’s a masterful prolonging of a misunderstanding, with every opportunity to right it consistently thwarted; and when the truth is finally revealed, it’s in the worst circumstances possible. It’s what makes their reunion so cathartic, and their hot make-out scene towards the end so satisfying.

She hasn't smiled much because there hasn't been anything worth smiling about. But all of a sudden some string bean of a police scientist wakes up from a lightning induced coma, and her facial muscles magically remember how?

Probably the first SB fluff I’ve read. Whenever I reread it my facial muscles still ache from smiling. Also, I’m pretty wordy as a writer, so it amazes me to see how much happens and how much is conveyed through short sentences and succinct dialogue.

If summer is for lovers then consider me in love, by gustin puckerman

When Barry finds out about the kiss.―Barry/Caitlin. Post 1x19 "Who is Harrison Wells". Oneshot.

This has the most adorable SB conversation ever. Barry and Caitlin tiptoe around the elephant in the room in the most endearing, awkward way, but what really gets to me is that behind the innocence of their words, their verbal dancing around each other feels like a strip tease, a slow revelation of the truth one line of dialogue at a time. It ends in the purest way possible, though: not with a kiss, because that would have been a decisive gesture, one that doesn’t quite fit with the atmosphere of the story, but with tentative hand-holding and a walk home. What’s not to love?

Knowing the Flows of Time, by @christinafalls

There is no greater pain than knowing. Barry travels back in time to save his mum, that single event is the catalyst that allows him to have a life with Caitlin he never expected he'd want. But could he truly fight destiny when he knows they were never meant to be?

I was an emotional wreck after reading this fic. I was in tears by the end. Everything hurt. I was in a daze for the rest of the day. This story, I remember thinking to myself then, is one that knows how to end. The storytelling was beautiful, with not one scene out of order. I still reread this from time to time just to marvel at how seamlessly everything unfolds.

Lifeguards’ Summer, by @destianac

This was going to be the longest summer of her life. First, she had to work instead of travelling with her best friend. Second, she was paired with that tall brown-haired guy and his cocky grin. Snowbarry AU one-shot. Summer Lovin' 16 - Day 2 - Lifeguards AU

My favorite SB summer read. Destiana pulls off a Barry with boyish charm, cocky and goofy at the same time. The dialogue is light and funny, and there’s a ton of fluff. Not just any fluff, too — it’s sexy fluff. Destiana practically invented that genre for SB. I read this on bad days to cheer up, and it always does the trick.

Swimming Lessons, by chasingblue57

The gang heads to the beach so Barry can teach Caitlin to swim, things get a bit handsy.

This is one of my favorite tropes of all time, and Blue just nails it. The moment when he first sees her in the bikini. The tickling. The not-so-accidental, lingering touches over bare skin. The “Don’t Worry, I Won’t Let You Drown” speech. The innocent flirting contrasted with the fact that they’re both half-naked and, well, wet. I grin like a fool every time I read this, especially when I reach the last line, because it recasts everything in a different light. Read it if you haven’t yet and you’ll see what I mean. It’s just delightful.

somebody sweet to talk to, by tinytendril

Isolated and jaded, executive assistant Caitlin finds an unexpected companion with a stranger, or her IT specialist, Barry. Except, they’ve only got a single phone line to connect them.

AUs are usually more difficult to ease into, but in this case I’m in awe of how I already have a feel of the setting and the characters from just the first paragraph. I also love how Caitlin and Barry’s relationship progresses through dialogue, how they initially get in touch because of professional necessity, and how that professional necessity soon (d)evolves into a sly ruse for another kind of necessity altogether. I’m a sucker for those things, and this one was beautifully done.

Caitlin texts Barry because she needs a little bit of saving, but Barry might be the one having a heart attack.

One of the best things about reading drunk!Caitlin is watching how she (and the author) comes up with ways to reduce Barry into a flustered, tongue-tied mess, and in this fic it’s done so deliciously: drunk!Caitlin sends Barry a hot pic of herself that he receives during a nice, wholesome family dinner... and, well, you can read on to enjoy the hilarity that ensues. I also love the devious twist at the end, during the post-drunk!Caitlin conversation in the morning. Barry’s teasing her mercilessly, as expected, and Caitlin endures it... until she turns the entire conversation on its head with a single line, and then saunters away leaving Barry simultaneously confused and turned on in her wake. Poor Barry. Good thing there’s a sexting sequel...

Barry sneaks into Caitlin’s house at night & asks for her help.

My favorite Caitlin-nurses-Barry-back-to-health fic. I just keep going back to the scene where Barry, after two days of being knocked out by an injury, finally wakes up to see Caitlin dozing off, and then he correctly surmises that she hardly slept for the entirety of those two days while keeping watch over him. It just seemed so Caitlin to worry to the point of forgetting to care for herself, but at the same time not exactly revealing or broadcasting the extent of her worry (except probably in the form of a warning, or in this case in eliciting a promise from Barry). And the scene at the end when they kiss after the culmination of all the anxiety was definitely a wonderful bonus.

1960s Snowbarry AU - Marrying into wealth isn’t Caitlin Snow’s idea. It takes an annulment and a pool boy with a smart mouth to break out of her perfectly colourless suburban lifestyle.

Oh my God, I live for this fic. I have a soft spot for heroines who go through their lives having everything externally but feeling a diffuse, unnameable restlessness inside, and then meeting someone who finally, really sees her behind all the glamor. I’d like to think it goes beyond just romance, this seeing; it’s like being acknowledged and respected and accepted as an individual... Or is that what romance is? Lol anyway, I love how the choice of setting further emphasizes the importance of appearances. It makes Caitlin’s developing relationship with Barry all the more deviant, and it becomes an important stepping-stone to her questioning of societal expectations and finally breaking free of them; it enables her to not only choose whom she wants to be with but also what she wants to do with her interests and talents. Other than that, I also love the progression of their relationship: how rigid their interactions first seem, marked by the obligatory proprieties; how they slowly shed those proprieties; and then how, during the climax, they just throw all caution to the wind. A really wonderful, engrossing read. I always feel so content after reading this.

I think a big problem with fandom is that people get mad when someone enjoys a character as they are in canon or they get mad that their ship or whatever isn't canon or not presented in canon as it is in their fanfics.

Like, I'm not going to stop someone from enjoying Reylo or Snowbarry fanfiction, but it's a fascinating thing to watch when fandoms like that of Reylo get mad that no one else views the ship through rose-colored lenses like how their favorite fics present it because that is not what is presented in canon. If people want to read Snowbarry fics, that's fine, but how are you going to be mad that no one else ever saw the "signs" that Barry and Caitlin, in canon, were ever romantically into each other? Their dynamic was never presented that way, regardless of whatever headcanons you had about them said.

Same thing with Loki, who is arguably a sympathetic character, but can also be not so good of a person. Just because the Loki you fantasize about is one way doesn't change canon. You cannot justifiably be mad at someone for saying that Loki can be an asshole, that Barry and Caitlin have no romantic chemistry, or that Reylo is abusive simply because you have a hard time differentiating between canon and fanon.

If I want to contribute something do I have to do something for every day?

Not at all. You’re free to commit to a single day, and we will be so flipping excited to see it. The point is just to have fun with the prompts, even if it’s just the one.

Can I post a WIP that I started working on before that fits a Snowbarry Week theme?

Yes, of course! We’re not a Big Bang, or even a Mini Bang, we don’t require art or fic to have been created from scratch for exactly this week.

I’m going to be busy/out of town during Snowbarry Week. Can I post early/late?

We’d really like to avoid early posting. If you’re out of town or too busy the week itself you can always schedule posts for the correct dates.

Posting late shouldn’t be a problem. Posting Day 1 on Day 3 is also perfectly fine, just make sure we can tell which day you’re posting for, so our heads don’t start spinning.

What does free day mean?

Basically, free day is where you decide what prompt you want to do something with. As long as it’s Snowbarry, you’re okay to do whatever you want. A free day in the middle of the week might also provide some much needed breathing space for all the contributors.

And since this is our bumper anniversary edition Snowbarry Week, our free day also doubles as an opportunity to create for any of our past prompts! If there was a prompt you didn’t manage to finish something for, or just always liked the sound of doing but missed the opportunity, we’d love to see that for this day to have a fun revival of some of the great prompts from past events.

What does [insert theme] mean?

Oh man, this is a hard one to answer. In the spotlight could mean a Celebrity or Politician AU, or it could be about team karaoke, or even a talent show in high school! We can’t tell you which roles to cast your characters in, because everyone has different interpretations. If you can justify the connection, we’re pretty sure you’re good.

67 I guess? Geez... I have 87 on fanfiction.net, so a few that I haven't even transferred over to AO3 yet. (and honestly 85% of all of them are WIP's #oops).

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I have 10 different fandoms I've published for: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Charmed, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Once Upon a Time, Arrow, the Flash. And more that I've written some for but just haven't published anything for them yet: Fringe, Grey's Anatomy, Agents of Shield, a movie called Arena, various MCU, and a couple others. Plus some I've wanted to attempt, but I just already have way too many other fics started for other fandoms.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hmm...I don't have many that are finished on AO3, but of the ones I do... "In This Grief" for Arrow is probably the angstiest I suppose. I love me some angst, drama, and whump throughout the fic though.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I usually try to end the shorter ones with happier endings, just cuz I'm also a sucker for a happy ending. Of my most recent ones, the concluding chapter for my Harry/Caitlin (Flash) "Open Mind For a Different View" is very sappy and 'happily ever after' in the end, which was fun to write.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't attempted many, but I do have an idea for a really cute/angsty Once Upon A Time/MCU crossover story that I never really got around to writing. I have a couple published on fanfiction.net that are pretty crazy, a few Buffy the Vampire Slayer/One Tree Hill ones that are fun, and a Grey's Anatomy/Buffy the Vampire Slayer one too.

8. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Um . . . I've barely attempted writing even anything smutty. I'd like to attempt more in the future, but it's definitely not something that comes naturally to me at all.

9. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I occasionally do, but along with leaving comments on fics i read it's one of those 'goes against my introverted nature' things that isn't always easy to win over. I really need to do more of both though.

10. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Who hasn't at some point? I mean, I'll never understand why people would not only click on a fic for either a ship they don't support or a show they don't watch...but take the time to comment negative things on it too? So weird...

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I've aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Again, not that I'm aware of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes - it brought me one of my closest friends. A Once Upon A Time slow-burn Robin/Regina (but also gen-family) fic that's way too many chapters long. We haven't really worked much on it the last couple of years, but hopefully we'll be able to finish it someday.

I'd definitely be open to co-writing with other people too, for that fandom or others. It's so much fun to collaborate and bounce ideas off of each other, and share an interest in the same shows/characters/couples.

There's a multi-chapter Barry/Caitlin (Flash) series-long one that I've been working on for a while (mostly notes/random drabbles at this point) that would probably be better as a two-person project but I just haven't really found anyone interested yet. I have posted pieces of it, short one-shots within the longer story for different Snowbarry-themed writing events, but the story itself really doesn't have much form yet.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

That's, like, not even a fair question. That's like asking a parent their favorite child! Not to mention I'm a sucker for multishipping...

I've never really understood the superior-ship-elitism thing. I've multishipped in a lot of different fandoms, and sure there are always ships I don't really enjoy but I don't judge people for supporting those or not supporting mine either. I do my thing in my space, and they can do their thing in theirs, simple as that. No hate, no judgment.

Ok...here's my top few-ish by show: 1) Piper/Leo (Charmed) 2) Nathan/Haley & Brooke/Julian & Lucas/Peyton (One Tree Hill) 3) Olivia/Peter (Fringe) 4) Damon/Elena & Stefan/Caroline (Vampire Diaries) 5) Lorelai/Luke & Rory/Logan & Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls) 6) Oliver/Felicity (Arrow) 7) Kara/Mon-El (Super Girl) 8) Max/Lix (Roswell, New Mexico) 9) Daisy/Sousa & Fitz/Simmons & Melinda/Phil & Bobbie/Hunter (Agents of Sheild). Lots of different ships from the Buffy and Angel shows. And then of course there's the Flash, where I ship so many different ships: Joe/Cecile, Snowbarry (and all the different variations), Snowells (also lots of the different variations), Killervibe, Caitlin/Julian....some Caitlin/Hunter occasionally.

...yeah I have too many ships. And that's not even close to all of them. 🤓

15. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

....how much time do you have?

There's a few, but the main one is the Once Upon A Time one I'm co-writing with a friend. We've both put so much into it already, and the end is pretty much planned out it's just getting there that hasn't been the easy part. Also, I have a cute Cisco/Caitlin (Flash) Christmas one I started last winter that I really want to finish but got kinda stuck on.

At the moment, the one eating at me the most is a combo Flash Savitar/Frost & Barry/Caitlin guardian angels AU fic that I can see perfectly in my head but just isn't translating to words very well.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I have a lot of great ideas, and I can write out dialogue pretty quickly? 🤷‍♀️

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Well . . . some grammar I guess? Commas, run-ons....yeah that kind of stuff. Probably descriptions too. By far the worst though is I'm really bad at finishing stories....way too many WIP's...

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Definitely not for me - I took three years of Spanish in high school (a decade ago) and just did not absorb much of it at all. No one wants to read my butchered attempt at another language, seriously. A word or two here and then, maybe, I guess. But that's it.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

lol - One Tree Hill, though I started Gilmore Girls and Buffy and Angel ones around the same time too.

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Savages - just like ships, how do I choose just one? There are bits of all of them that I love - even the rough early ones, the ones I can't stop thinking about but haven't written yet, and the ones I haven't updated in sooo long that sometimes thinking of them is frustrating enough....

Here’s yet another list that no one asked for or wants of ships that just hit different

Charah: will always and forever be my favorite. They have the actual sweetest and most wholesome relationship ever. Before they were even officially dating they risked their lives for each other in a literal sense and in ways like risking going to prison for the rest of their lives because they loved each other so much

Fitzsimmons: omg they are also the most wholesome and have my whole heart. The love they have for each other!!! The best friends to lovers trope and the fact that fitz really loved her the whole time!!! He quite literally gave up the world for her!!!! I don’t think anyone can disagree that these two are on a whole other level

Everlark: my babies!!!!!! Peeta literally loved her her whole life and she didn’t realize she loved him at first but once she did she quite literally couldn’t live without him. She needs “the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.” Like my heart!!!

Steggy: I am just such a sucker for them. She might not have said it but she loved him even before he became cap and ahhhh!!! They were each other’s right partner!!!! Still waiting for my movie of the adventures they went on when he went back in time

Glaggie: just like for the love and sweetness they shared especially since the world was turned upside down and was out to get them. They still found something so beautiful in all that brokenness

Booth and Brennan: I really am a sucker for the best friends to lovers trope and they do it like no other!! They were such good partners in every aspect of life. Such a slow burn and dang if it wasn’t sooo satisfying when they finally got together.

Snowbarry: I’ve also come to figure out I have a soft spot for two nerds and while snowbarry isn’t outright super nerdy we all know they’re still nerdy and I’m so here for that. And I know they’re not together but their friendship is still so sweet and there are definitely some fics of them that are headcanon to me

Jim and Pam: yet again the best friends to lovers and they also do it so well! Jim is so patient while she’s clearly not in a good relationship for her and he’s just there for her and doesn’t ask for anything or expect anything at all. Until he finally does tell her he loves her!!! And then it took them a little bit after that to get their timing right but once they do!!! “There were a lot of reasons to call off my wedding. But the truth is, I didn't care about any of those reasons until I met you.” And don’t forget, “Not enough for me? You are everything.” Too good!!

I love so many more ships and some are my absolute favs but these all just hold a different kind of special place in my heart

Scusate in anticipo il lungo papiro che vi ritroverete davanti e per quanti riguarda il fandom che ho taggato, ne parlo alla fine, dopo tutta la premessa su di me. Questo post è in italiano ma ho intenzione di mettere la versione tradotta da Google Translate appena finisce la parte italiana, basta scorrere la pagina fino alla scritta “English Version (With Google Translate)”.

Mi sto chiedendo se fare o no un tentativo di scrittura di fanfiction dopo tanti anni di sola lettura.

Ormai non ricordo neanche più quanti anni avevo quando ho cominciato a leggere le prime fanfiction e le prime ship (Fuffy, Fleurmione, Liley, Fangrai), so che su Fanfiction.net sono iscritto da Novembre 2012 quando ho cominciato a salvare fic Swan Queen tra le favorite e le story allerts ma è da prima di incontrare Emma e Regina che mi sono addentrato in questo mondo di storie ispirate alle mie serie e racconti preferiti.

Non ho una grande preparazione grammaticale, ho finito la scuola dell’obbligo italiana e i pochi tentativi che ho dato a quella successiva era praticamente una scuola tecnica per computer ma non ho mai finito il primo anno e quindi non studio seriamente da quando avevo 18 anni. Quando scrivo un post o qualsiasi cosa ho sempre il timore di usare troppo le varie “,” “:” “;” ecc., tendo a scrivere molto velocemente con la tastiera e se non fosse per i correttori automatici spesso lascerei parole scritte nell’ordine sbagliato o con errori di cui non mi sono accorto (ma se mi mettessi a scrivere prenderò l’abitudine di rileggere bene tutto quello che scrivo); non ho un verso senso di come deve essere la grammatica di una storia e ho la sensazione che scriverei quello che sembrerà di certo il lavoro di un principiante o di un bambino. Una cosa però devo ammetterla: ai tempi della scuola mi piaceva scrivere e inventare storie e una volta ne ho fatta pure leggere una alla mia insegnante.

Da anni grazie alla fanfiction non faccio altro che immaginare nella mia testa come cambierei io la storia di base o i personaggi di un determinato fandom e come mi piacerebbe che andassero le cose, ma la mia scarsa preparazione e il fatto che leggo praticamente solo storie in inglese tradotte in automatico da Chrome con translate non mi ha mai fatto provare a cimentarmi.

La lingua è proprio il più grande fattore che mi ha sempre fermato da provare anche le più piccole cose visto che la community inglese delle fanfiction è decisamente più ampia e riconosciuta di quella italiana e io sono uno che prima leggeva solo su Fanfiction.net, e ora anche se continuo ad usarlo, sono soprattutto su AO3. Con anni di storie tradotte, serie guardate in lingua originale con i sottotitoli e una piccola preparazione di base a scuola ho imparato molto inglese ma ancora oggi se devo scrivere un post in inglese da qualche parte lo traduco con translate e praticamente non parlo la lingua ma sto cercando di migliorare in maniera “casalinga” ovvero continuando con i sottotitoli e provando a rivedere cose già viste (film, serie ecc.) in inglese e con anche i subs eng per associare il suono delle parole alla scrittura. Questi sono i motivi per cui, vista la mia già poca preparazione in materia, le storie che pubblicherei sarebbero in italiano ma con AO3 come piattaforma principale e visto che il grosso del pubblico legge in inglese, non saprei neanche se ne varrebbe la pena fare tutto il lavoro che ci vuole dietro ad una storia (aspiro a farne una lunga, ma ne parlerò dopo) se poi i fandom a cui mi rivolgo non la leggerebbero per via della lingua diversa (e non so se in altre lingue i lettori usano il mio “trucco” di tradurre con Chrome o translate).

Non sono uno che progetta “il grande schema”: che pensa troppo in anticipo dove vuole andare con una storia, i personaggi, quando vuole finire...magari con il tempo e i tentativi la cosa cambierebbe ma in genere uso l’istinto quando mi immagino una storia e posso solo sperare che alla fine ne venga fuori qualcosa di sensato e soddisfacente che non mi faccia rimpiangere il lavoro svolto.

Non so quasi niente del mondo dietro la creazione di fanfiction, sono sempre stato solo un lettore, per cui non seguo nessuna community, blog o gruppo su cosa e come fanno gli autori i propri lavori ed è già tanto (grazie alle note degli autori) se so che cosa è un beta tester anche se io non ne avrei uno e non saprei come cercarlo, soprattutto nella mia lingua; il problema poi e che sono una persona molto timida e parlo di rado con qualcuno in chat vocali e pochissime volte con messaggi privati e anche se uso i social tutto i giorni (twitter, instagram, tumblr, facebook), anche in quel mondo solo soprattutto un lettore, postando pochissimo (twitter, instagram, tumblr,) o per nulla (instagram, facebook).

Le domande alla fine di tutto questo sono: visto tutto quello che vi ho raccontato sulla mia preparazione e le mie capacità, il fatto di non appartenere alla principale lingua dei siti in cui scriverei, il non sapere se e come porterò a termine quello che comincio, se avrò la pazienza di provare questa nuova cosa che da anni mi attira... insomma, dovrei provarci comunque? Devo dare almeno un tentativo? Vedere se ne sono in grado? Per me il mondo delle fanfiction sembra proprio il posto dove anche dei principianti alla scrittura come me possano provare a scrivere la propria versione di ciò che gli piace e ama e vorrei sapere se c’è posto anche per me e i sicuri disastri che creerei.

Domanda solo per chi legge in inglese: Eventualmente, versioni più piccole e corte delle mie fanfiction le leggereste (tipo qui su tumblr) se le posto dopo averle tradotte con Translate? Perché se per voi una traduzione del traduttore è troppo male allora magari evito di peggiorare quello che già sarebbe un lavoro abbastanza semplice.

E veniamo finalmente al fandom che ho taggato:

Skimmons/BioQuake

Perchè proprio Skimmons? (p.s. ho sempre preferito il vecchio nome ship, ma mi vanno bene entrambi). Skimmons è una ship che ho sempre adorato fin dalla prima stagione, e anche se negli ultimi anni la presenza del fandom su di essa è calata parecchio e per quanto capisca che nel mondo AOS è Fitzsimmons la nave principale (contro cui non ho nulla ed è una delle poche ship etero che non mi da fastidio vedere con le mie characthers preferite), ho e avrò sempre un debole per Daisy e Jemma insieme e rimangono una delle mie OTP più alte personalmente, affianco a nomi grandi come Swan Queen, Faberry, Supercorp e Clexa; inoltre sono uno shipper quasi unicamente Femslash (con poche eccezioni come Harmony e Snowbarry) e la maggior parte delle mie ship sono non canoniche (purtroppo!).

Forse proprio perché Skimmons a confronto di quelle altre ship ha un fanbase più piccola e vengono postate sempre meno storie che sento il bisogno di provare a crearne una mia versione, un mio modo per cui queste due dovrebbero stare insieme e riscrivere cosi la loro storia. Perché è proprio questo che vorrei provare a fare: io ho un debole per le storie che modificano gli avvenimenti canonici per farne la versione di quella particolare Ship; leggo anche molti AU ma ho sempre un sorriso sul volto quando trovo una storia che riscrive una serie o un film nella versione che a noi shipper di quella particolare coppia avremmo amato se fossero state canon.

La mia idea sarebbe di fare un tentativo di ripatire dall’inizio di AOS e provare a fare ogni puntata la mia versione, iniziando simile ai veri episodi e pian piano variando sempre più cose finendo in una direzione totalmente diversa con trame sempre più originali (evitando cosi trame e personaggi che non mi hanno mai entusiasmato troppo) e apparizioni crossover di altri fandom (ma praticamente solo dei personaggi, non le storie) perché una mio piacere segreto è immaginare le mie varie ship che interagiscono nello stesso universo (con questo non sto pensando ad una mega combinazione di tante ship ma solo non avrei problemi ogni tanto a farne apparire qualcuna, anche solo per poco, in una delle mie storie).

Ma Skimmons sarebbe solo la mia prima storia principale il “grande progetto” da fare con calma, postare per bene su AO3 e scritto nel tempo e quindi non escludo lavori molto più piccoli in tutti i vari fandom che amo quando mi viene l’ispirazione. Anche questo appunto “grande progetto” è una vera incognita e potrei non riuscirci neanche perché per farlo prima di tutto dovrei rivedere ogni episodio per ogni capitolo, trovare le idee per la mia versione, scriverle, rileggere e correggere, essere soddisfatto di cosa viene fuori… insomma è tutto un tale casino che potrei facilmente schiantarmi e rinunciarci, decidendo magari di ripiegare solo per cose più piccole e veloci.

Ed eccoci finalmente giunti alla fine, 1500 parole più tardi e almeno qualche ora a scrivere per spiegare non solo a chi avrà il coraggio di leggere tutto, ma anche a me stesso, i motivi e le domande che avevo dentro di me da tirare fuori e scrivere la mondo per vedere se questa è una strada che dovrei tentare.

When I write a post or anything I am always afraid of using too many "," ":" ";" etc., I tend to type very quickly with the keyboard and if it were not for the automatic correctors I would often leave words written in the wrong order or with errors that I did not notice (but if I started to write I will get into the habit of rereading well everything I write); I have no sense of what the grammar of a story must be and I have a feeling that I would write what will certainly look like the work of a beginner or a child. But I have to admit one thing: in school I liked to write and invent stories and once I even had my teacher read one.

For years thanks to fanfiction I have been imagining in my head how I would change the basic story or the characters of a certain fandom and how I would like things to go, but my poor preparation and the fact that I practically read only stories in English automatically translated from Chrome with translate never made me try my hand.

Language is precisely the biggest factor that has always stopped me from trying even the smallest things since the English fanfiction community is much larger and more recognized than the Italian one and I am one who previously only read on Fanfiction.net, and now even though i keep using it i am mostly on AO3. With years of translated stories, series watched in the original language with subtitles and a little basic preparation in school I learned a lot of English but still today if I have to write a post in English somewhere I translate it with translate and I practically do not speak the language but I am trying to improve in a "home" way, that is continuing with subtitles and trying to review things already seen (films, series, etc.) in English and also with subs eng to associate the sound of words with writing. These are the reasons why, given my already poor preparation on the subject, the stories I would publish would be in Italian but with AO3 as the main platform and since the bulk of the public reads in English, I wouldn't even know if it would be worth doing everything the work that goes into a story (I aspire to make a long one, but I'll talk about it later) if the fandoms I am addressing would not read it because of the different language (and I don't know if in other languages the readers use mine "Trick" to translate with Chrome or translate).

I am not one who designs "the grand scheme": who thinks too far in advance where he wants to go with a story, the characters, when he wants to end ... maybe with time and attempts it would change but generally I use instinct when I I imagine a story and I can only hope that in the end something sensible and satisfying will come out that does not make me regret the work done.

I know almost nothing about the world behind the creation of fanfiction, I've always been just a reader, so I don't follow any community, blog or group about what and how the authors do their work and that's already a lot (thanks to the authors' notes) if I know what a beta tester is even if I don't have one and I don't know how to look for it, especially in my language; the problem then is that I am a very shy person and I rarely speak with someone in voice chats and very few times with private messages and even if I use social media all day (twitter, instagram, tumblr, facebook), even in that world only above all a reader, posting very little (twitter, instagram, tumblr,) or not at all (instagram, facebook).

The questions at the end of all this are: given everything I have told you about my preparation and my skills, the fact that I do not belong to the main language of the sites where I would write, not knowing if and how I will finish what I am starting , if I have the patience to try this new thing that has attracted me for years ... well, should I try it anyway? Should I at least give it a try? See if they are capable of it? For me, the world of fanfiction seems to be the place where even beginners to writing like me can try to write their own version of what they like and love and I would like to know if there is room for me too and the sure disasters I would create.

Question only for those who read in English: Eventually, smaller and shorter versions of my fanfictions would you read them (like here on tumblr) if I post them after having translated them with Translate? Because if a translation of the translator is too bad for you then maybe I avoid worsening what would already be a fairly simple job.

Skimmons/BioQuake

Why Skimmons? (p.s. I have always preferred the old name ship, but both are fine). Skimmons is a ship that I have always loved since the first season, and even if in recent years the presence of the fandom on it has dropped a lot and as much as I understand that in the AOS world it is Fitzsimmons the main ship (against which I have nothing and it is one of the few straight ships that I don't mind seeing with my favorite characthers), I have and will always have a soft spot for Daisy and Jemma together and they remain one of my highest OTPs personally, alongside big names like Swan Queen, Faberry, Supercorp and Clexa; I am also an almost uniquely Femslash shipper (with a few exceptions like Harmony and Snowbarry) and most of my ships are non-canonical (unfortunately!).

Maybe because Skimmons compared to those other ships has a smaller fanbase and fewer and fewer stories are posted that I feel the need to try to create my own version, my way in which these two should be together and thus rewrite their history. Because this is exactly what I would like to try to do: I have a weakness for stories that modify canonical events to make them the version of that particular Ship; I also read a lot of AUs but I always have a smile on my face when I find a story that rewrites a series or a movie in the version that we shippers of that particular couple would have loved if they had been canon.

My idea would be to make an attempt to replay from the beginning of AOS and try to make each episode my version, starting similar to the real episodes and gradually varying more and more things ending in a totally different direction with more and more original plots (avoiding so plots and characters that have never thrilled me too much) and crossover appearances by other fandoms (but practically only characters, not the stories) because my secret pleasure is to imagine my various ships interacting in the same universe (I'm not thinking of a mega combination of many ships but only I would have no problem every now and then to make some of them appear, even if only briefly, in one of my stories).

But Skimmons would only be my first main story, the "big project" to be done calmly, post well on AO3 and written over time, and therefore I do not rule out much smaller jobs in all the various fandoms that I love when inspiration comes to me. Even this "great project" is a real unknown and I might not even succeed because to do it first of all I would have to review each episode for each chapter, find ideas for my version, write them, reread and correct them, be satisfied with what comes out ... in short, it's all such a mess that I could easily crash and give it up, maybe I decide to fall back only for smaller and faster things.

And here we are finally at the end, 1500 words later and at least a few hours to write to explain not only to those who have the courage to read everything, but also to myself, the reasons and questions I had inside of me to pull out and write the world to see if this is a path I should try.

8. What’s the weirdest reason you’ve ever shipped something?

Hmm. Well I usually fall for any friends to lovers ship, but maybe my weirdest reason for shipping some characters is shipping them precisely because they aren’t the obvious choice or the initial love interest, but instead the slow burn that takes either the characters or audience by surprise. Tracks with Bellarke, and definitely Olicity which I was really into for S2/S3 of arrow. I remember I liked Snowbarry in the Flash a lot and stopped watching when I realized they weren’t going to go that route. I used to watch the vampire diaries and remember finding S1 stelena pretty boring and loved the longer routes of getting to delena and especially steroline. Same with caos - I immediately was bored by Sabrina/Harvey and drawn to her relationship with Nick (although I haven’t watched S3 and heard that the show butchered that one).

10. What’s the best insult you’ve written in a fic?

Oh let’s see. I don’t think I’m very clever with writing good insults but I like this one from Homesick, if only because we all know Bellamy’s jealous and concern is really driving the insult and it’s passive aggressive and petty haha.

“No, he’s in my class,” Bellamy answers in a clipped voice. “He used to date my friend Raven, but rumor has it he cheated on her with someone else.”

Clarke hopes no one sees how red her face becomes. Her throat feels dry and she shoots a look at Bellamy that promises she’ll deal with him later.

16. What is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written? (whole fic or chapter)

I’ll go with chapter since I only have the 2 fics published. I love ch. 16 of Homesick which is In Our Hearts, We Still Pray For Sons and Daughters. It’s from the song Sons and Daughters by Allman Brown which is a long-time favorite of mine and I feel like it just perfectly encapsulates the sad mood of the chapter and the lyrics work well. The song is just beautiful, definitely check it out.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

“I don’t really see you around the building too much,” You start, examining the nutrition labels of your items with suspicious interest. “Is this where you always run off to?”

Ben shakes his head, going a little slower on ringing up your –groceries?– things. “Ah, not all the time. Most of my time is actually spent at the library, I hardly do anything but study these days.”

“Oh, you attend college here?”

“Yeah,” He’s still a little unnerved, but he’s significantly pleased with how easy conversation flows with you. “I knew going for a double major was a bad idea…”

The exert above is from my first fic on this blog, Must Have Been The Wind. Now, this fic is very special to me for multiple reasons, one of which being that it’s probably one of my only fics that I am truly and genuinely proud of. The reason I chose these particular lines of dialogue is because I tried to build the characters of modern!Ben and Reader through them. I personally feel that, if done right, dialogue is a really good way to “show not tell” and establish characters and their key/common traits without feeling like you’re just shoving the information down the audience’s throats.

From this specific passage, we learn that Ben attends the local college, he often spends most of his free time studying at the library instead of their apartment complex, and that he’s a struggling double major student all while being introduced to a new story setting that before has only been mentioned in passing. It’s also the first real conversation he’s had with the reader, the other main character of the fic. I also tried my best to make the conversation flow and show that Ben’s interested without hindering his shy and anxious tendencies and characteristics. Normally, I would never “toot my own horn” so to speak, as I feel there is still a lot for me to learn and room for me to improve, but again, I’m just really very happy with how this fic turned out in the end.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

Okay, so this really depends but I will try to cut to the chase for this question.

In General: x Reader fics— I feel that the possibilities for these pairs are truly endless, but technically that’s not a specific pairing.

In HPHM Fandom: Ben x Reader— Okay so I’m definitely biased on this one, but Ben is truly a very dynamic and unfortunately very under appreciated character and I feel like you can really do a lot with him.

Outside HPHM: Caroline Forbes x Klaus Mikaelson from TVD (Klaroline) –or– Barry Allen x Caitlin Snow from The Flash (Snowbarry)— I started TVD when it was in season 3 and immediately feel in love with these two. I waited approximately six years for them to be endgame only to be bamboozled when he died in the end. Snowbarry, on the other hand, is a completely different ship with a vibe so opposite from Klaroline it’s insane. They are my new Klaroline. I’ve since stopped watching the show since I can hardly stand a key character who is always upfront and the plot lines are getting weaker and more absurd, but I’m still pulling for them. Unfortunately though, the likelihood of these two pulling a fast one on me and getting together seems to be more bleak than Klaroline’s was. *Heavy dramatic sigh*

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

Only about once or twice depending on the fic. I’m a perfectionist, so I will at least always go through it once when I think it’s all done to catch mistakes, discrepancies, or other things I might like to fix, add, or reword. But once I do that, I tend not to waste any more time before posting it.

37. Talk about your current wips.

So, I’ve been turning over two of the holiday prompts for about two or three weeks now. I’ve honestly entirely rewritten one of them three times already and am still only in the beginning stages and nowhere near completion. However, I think I’m going to go with something much shorter than originally planned and see how that works. Fourth time’s the charm, right? 😅 Also, there’s not really much I can say considering the requester asked to be surprised so... yeah?

So so terribly sorry, but I haven’t even gotten to your Badeea x Reader holiday prompt yet but I swear it will see it’s day before Christmas!

My Top Secret-Secret Santa fic. It’s coming along pretty well, I just need to make time to finish it. Also not a lot I can disclose at the moment, in case of prying ears but I quite like how it’s turned out thus far!

A Ben x Reader fic set during the second Wizarding War where Ben has to go into hiding from the ministry because of the whole ‘hunting muggle-borns thing’ and Reader can’t let him do it alone so they accompany him... no house or gender specific reader like always, still in planning stages though.

More recently, a Talbott x Reader fic set after graduating Hogwarts. With both of them having very different ideas for what their future might look like, they end up breaking things off the save themselves from more pain in the long run. Talbott goes and becomes an auror while the MC runs off to sort themselves out, traveling the world alone to try and find their answers. They weren’t sure if they’d ever see each other again but it seems fate was rather decided on the matter. Alternatively Titled: Four Times You Said Goodbye and One Time You Didn’t
