Saint Marie of the Incarnation
October 28, 1599 - April 30, 1672
Feast Day: April 30
Patronage: against impoverishment, against loss of parents, poor people, and widows
Canonized: April 3, 2014, by Pope Francis
Saint Marie of the Incarnation (Marie de L’Incarnation), a French Ursuline nun, was sent to New France (Canada) to establish the Ursuline Order.  She has been credited with founding the first girls' school and with missionary efforts in the education of the native people, all the while experiencing mystical visions and suffering periods of spiritual aridity. Called “Marie of the Ursulines”, she compiled dictionaries in Algonquin and Iroquois and taught the Indians the rest of her life until her death of a liver illness in 1672.

“This is the place where you can witness some of the most eccentric weddings in the world. I’m talking about Oaș Country, a fascinating region in Northern Romania.
Alexandra is proudly wearing her wedding dress during the Feast of the Assumption, just before her wedding. She moved to France with her parents, many years ago, and now studies law there. But she came to her birthplace, for her wedding. Her story is the story of the entire region.
Most people from this region work hard abroad and come back home, for holidays, in August. This month becomes the centre of their life, the period when most weddings take part, a time of abundance and parties. Some weddings have up to 2,000 guests. The bride’s outfit is extremely expensive and uses some traditional elements, but also modern reinterpretations.
You might wonder, why so much effort? It’s what keeps this community united, despite the fact that it is spread in many corners of Europe.”

THE PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
october 1_october 14
Tumblr media
Today the Old calendar( Julian calendar) celebrates the feast of the protection of the Mother of god. A beloved event for all orthodox christian. Here is why.
" The Church has always glorified the Most Holy Mother of God as the Protectress and Defender of the Christian people, entreating, by her intercession, God's loving-kindness towards us sinners. The Mother of God's aid has been clearly shown times without number, both to individuals and to peoples, both in peace and in war, both in monastic deserts and in crowded cities. The event that the Church commemorates and celebrates on October 1 [October 14, Civil Calendar] proves this constant protection of the Christian people by the Mother of God. On October 1st, 911, in the time of the Emperor Leo the Wise (or the Philosopher), there was an all-night vigil at the Blachemae church of the Mother of God in Constantinople. The church was crowded. St. Andrew the Fool for Christ was standing at the back of the church with his disciple Epiphanius. At four o'clock in the morning, the most holy Mother of God appeared above the people with a veil spread over her outstretched hands, as though to protect them with this covering. She was clad in gold-encrusted purple and shone with an unspeakable radiance, surrounded by apostles, saints, martyrs and virgins. Seeing this vision, St. Andrew gestured towards it and asked Epiphanius: 'Do you see how the Queen and Lady of all is praying for the whole world?' Epiphanius replied: 'Yes, Father; I see it and stand in dread.' As a result, this commemoration was instituted to remind us both of this event and of the Mother of God's constant protection whenever we prayerfully seek that protection, that shelter, in distress. (from The Prologue From Ochrid by Bishop Nikolai Velimirovich)

Gratitude Day 1262
My mother and my queen, I love you and honor you this day as The Immaculate Conception! I gaze upon your beauty and perfect virtue. I thank you for always saying “Yes” to the will of God in your life and for allowing God to use you with such power and grace. Pray for me, that as I come to know you more deeply as my own spiritual mother, I may also imitate your life of grace and virtue in all things. Mother Mary, pray for us. Jesus, I trust in You!

Saint Gertrude of Nivelles
626 - 659
Feast Day: March 17
Patronage: cats, rat and mice infestation, mental illness, travelers, gardens
Saint Gertrude of Nivelles was a noble-born from saintly parents. At 10 she refused any and all marriage prospects. At 13, after her father died, Gertrude founded the Benedictine Abbey of Nivelles with her mother and was installed as abbess in 639. The Abbey's hospitality welcomed travelers, wishing them no misfortune. She was a mystic, who helped the poor, elderly, and sick. Townspeople called her to ward off rat and mice infestation thus becoming the patron of cats. She died in March at age 33 after a life of prayer and penance, becoming the patron of gardens because of the prospect of fair weather.
