It's not even that I want to dislike The Owl House (even though I do love me some media roasts). But the setting and plots of Season 1 are just soooo... normal? Boring? Dull? Milquetoast? Like I'm sorry but for a show set in a 'fantasy monster world' you'd think that the show would have wanted to push the boundaries of their setting but nope.
Besides the interior of Eda's house (which still isn't that great), the settings are INCREDIBLY reminiscent of the 'human' world. The school is... just a school. The convention center is... just a convention center. The library is... just a library. The color scheme of most of the buildings is giving beige obsessed influencer. Where are the patterns, the vibrant colors, the neon/glowing effects? My front yard is more visually interesting than this 'magic world'.
And don't even get me started on the small details. I don't even have the energy to get fully into this so I'll just say: The Boiling Isles freak out over coat hangers, but then use mechanical pencils. Stupid.
And I can't help but compare it to Gravity Falls. The setting of Gravity Falls despite being in the human world was vibrant, fun, lively, exciting. The fact that the setting was so human allowed the writers to play off that, and the juxtaposition of the supernatural elements in the middle of nowhere Pacific Northwest is charming and fun. There is so much adventure in Gravity Falls that makes it memorable. And meanwhile, in The Owl House we get to watch our protagonist go to a book fair. Riveting. Besides some 'interesting' (read: ugly) character designs and occasional lukewarm magic shenanigans Luz may as well be in the human world because the 'magic' is blah. Give us nothing girl yasssssssss.
Also, this world makes no sense. There is little to no world building and the amount of logic leaps one needs to make watching this show is absurd. The Abominations at first seem to be goo puppets but then we see one at King's book event and it's emoting and having what looks like a conversation. Eda is a wanted criminal and yet is constantly out in broad daylight with a STORE FRONT. CHILDREN KNOW WHERE SHE LIVES. She lives on the fringes of society and yet is constantly in and interacting with society. We've seen sentient Unicorn characters and then also seen unicorns as plain animals. And don't even get me started on the Advanced Courses at Hexside that only require the knowledge of 2 spells to get in. Even though when Amity sees Luz do the light orb spell she says that's so easy a child could do it. Which implies children do magic. Which implies that by the time their old enough to go to high school they have probably done 2 spells. Which implies that the advanced course really isn't that advanced. Which takes away the feeling of impressiveness towards Amity being the top student.
Final thoughts: excited for Belos to show up because even though I've heard he's a mess and a half he also brings plot which this show desperately is in need of.

if we're addressing this then i think my prevailing theory is that beatrice was either a real human woman or a stand in for whatever dodgy war profiteering landed kinzo the gold. in either case she is representative of an immense sin that is enough to thoroughly haunt anyone who knows anything about it

I am not pro-plastic; however, I cannot condemn cosmetic surgery either. I enjoy the effect of it, I run a bimbo blog, that's no secret.
But cosmetic surgery, like all surgery, comes at a risk -- in the "bimbo" community alone many women have died trying to max themselves out physically -- and I can't condone the reality and possibility of a fatal outcome for something so frivolous. Cosmetic surgery is not foolproof or all-encompassing either. I'm no doctor, I haven't studied this, but I follow enough of these women online (as I'm sure many of you do) to know that these procedures require routine maintenance, upkeep; not to mention instances where further surgery is required to makeup for unforeseen complications, including unsatisfactory results.
I think you get the picture. And if you don't, watch Death Becomes Her.

That's my main objection. No matter how sexually satisfying I often find the results the risks far outweigh the benefits, in my opinion.
Another common and also very real objection, usually intermingled with this one, is the internalized desire to adhere to a male ideal of sexualization; self-objectification.
Tumblr media
I take issue with this objection for cosmetic surgery, not because I disagree with it or think women should feel a desire to be desired, my issue is more implicit than that; the underlying expectation that one must be satisfied with or even comfortable in their natural body. Sexual freedom begins not only with physical self-possession but physical self-conviction. Not just confidence and control in one's self but assuredness, unwavering belief in one's self.
Of course, insecurity isn't the fault of the individual, and running off to get plastic surgery probably shouldn't be someone's first instinct of but I do think it's not an entirely invalid option depending on certain circumstances. Sometimes cosmetic surgery can make a monumental difference for an individual and be not only worth it, but freeing. As for whether cosmetic surgery should ever be considered worth it or freeing... well, no, but that's a much larger issue.

going back to sleep after this but I feel like in btd, lawrence would probably be the most ideal mf to get stuck with if ur someone w a chronic pain/illness or some kind of disability. I feel like he'd be willing to accommodate it or provide (questionable) medication if it was requested of him and the captive was nice enough. I mean, arguably he would also treat ur body like a science experiment, try to trigger reactions, flare ups, etc, but like... I feel like strade or even ren would just look at it and be like "how can I exacerbate this issue" and not give u any help. after/before lmao. that n like,,, if ur like us n ur issues make u have trouble walking or moving, I feel like he'd be less afraid of u leaving/escaping. also bonus points for u being in a position where u need him/his help.
another thing- chronic fatigue? narcolepsy? hypersomnia? similar disorders? oh that dude is THRIVING. probably gonna mess w his nasty sleepy tea and see how it effects ur symptoms, maybe give u other drugs of questionable nature for similar effect... but most importantly? I just KNOW that corpsefucking blonde boy has a thing for somno, u are getting dicked down eventually. in ur sleep tho sorry.
I think the only thing he wouldn't enjoy abt a captive like this, personality factors omitted, is that a lot of chronic issues come w brain fog, hallucinations, things of that nature... and those seem like things he'd prefer to be able to trigger himself, I feel like he'd be frustrated that u came with built in brainfuck software. or maybe he'd find it super interesting?
idk,,, I also hc that lawrence himself has issues w chronic pain and some degree of mysterious rotting man chronic illness™ as a result of him rotting and shit so I feel like he'd also be a bit more equipped to handle it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Son of God, you escape to the house of your Father in the late hours of the night, for it reminds you of Heaven. Why is it you prefer it so? Is it because you miss the courts of angels… or because you liked feeling alone?
You sleep on the edge of the stairs, blissful in every moment you close your eyes again. You cannot sleep exactly as they do, but you get close; It’s comforting. To feel heavy and slowed, to curl up on the steps of the temple and look up at the stars, your twinkling brethren.
But then it is morning, and you are once again accosted for simply being. The Pharisees shout you down for explaining wrongs, and the Sadduces goad you for more for no reason better than for weaponry against the Pharisees. You are swarmed in every direction by bodies twice your height, and these two eyes of yours cannot look at all of them at once. Your words are heard the world and back, and yet no ears here listen. You sigh to yourself, thinking about how much quieter things used to be when there was no need to speak.
Son of God, you clench your teeth and they shake within you, body trembling with hunger; You love this body and yet it hates you. It knows what it was made for. What you were made for. It gets sick, it tires, it shakes with anxiety your mind comprehends far beyond, often refuses to speak when you yourself birthed its languages.
And somewhere in this discussion, between when a Pharisee pushes you around and when the beggars shout at you and clamor at your feet, you start to wonder. Lucifer, your brother, your son; How wrong he was to deny Heaven, how falsely his hubris led him. That’s not exactly what you ponder on—You know he was wrong for his defiance, and you hope he will one day allow himself to be forgiven for it.
But… there is something to be said about his wanting to be free.
