I’m learning to play mahjong from an app where your starting default player skin is a catgirl or a busty kimono lady. You can buy chances to summon others skins, including guys, but I’m cheap.

It’s weirdly affirming of my gender identity. While I’m fine playing the game as busty kimono lady, using her emotes, enjoying the way that she/I sound when we smugly announce that we’ve got a complete hand and the round is over, every time I play against a player with a male skin something strange happens.

I wish I was a man.

It’s a game cosmetic. Usually I don’t really care what my avatar looks like. It’s always me in there (up here) anyway, and I’m cis so why would it matter how I present in this community? Ultimately it really doesn’t matter.

And yet I am a man and I want to be one, given the option.

Side note: Everyone look at this fucking incredible hand I got a few days ago. Edit: or at least the best I’ve gotten so far.
