Don't throw away your corn silk darlings! It has powerful medicine. Corn silk is my go to for UTI's, something I have been prone to my whole life. I was allergic to 'matey' bubble bath when I was little and it took a long time to work it out. I've had a couple of really bad kidney infections over the years. And then I discovered corn silk. 3 cups a day when symptoms arise and I'm usually better in 2. If I'm not I will go to the doctors because I'm not gonna risk another kidney infection but it hasn't come to that for at least 6 years. It is also used to support diabetes, heart disease, aids clotting and reduces cholesterol. I've seen it used as a hair rinse but I've never tried it. . . . . .#witch #witch🔮 #solitarywitch #paganwitch #instawitch #greenwitch #hearthwitch #hedgewitch #paganpride #heathen #kitchenwitch #witchlife #witchcraft #modernwitch #witchaesthetic #norsepagan #celticpagan #priestess #witchschool #oldways #goth #wildwoman #wildmedicine #folkremedies #uti (at Totnes) https://www.instagram.com/p/CizSYuULrfJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Have you heard of Buchu? Buchu is a member of the citrus family (Rutaceae), and has been used in herbal tea form as a traditional folk remedy for hundreds of years in South Africa. The essential oil is extracted via Steam Distillation from the leaves of the plant, and has a wonderful slightly minty, fruity and citrus scent when diffused. The constituents that are found in the essential oil are naturally anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antimicrobial. If you like using essential oils in your cleaning products, this is definitely one to consider, especially with such a clean and fresh scent. Buchu essential oil can be diluted into a carrier oil such as Jojoba or coconut oil for topical application. Always remember to dilute before applying as our essential oils are 100% pure with no fillers or carrier oils, so are very concentrated. ***If you are allergic to citrus or pregnant don’t apply this one topically.*** Botanical Name: Agathosma capensis Country of Origin: South Africa Method of Extraction: Steam Distillation Part Used: leaves www.myherbclinic.com.au #myherbclinic #celestial #celestialoils #essentialoils #folkremedy #southafrica #agathosma #steamdistillation #aromatherapy #chemicalfreecleaning #oildiffusing #freshandminty #citrus https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzt6v_MFS-i/?igshid=1q4pviwcsl53k

The Mother of Bush Tea: How relevant are Folk remedies to younger Jamaicans?
“Nature itself is the best physician – Hippocrates.”  Folk medicine or remedies is the treatment of ailments outside clinical medicine by remedies or simple measures based on the experience and knowledge passed down from generation to generation. The practice of folk medicine originates from “superstitions”, cultural traditions and the observed use of native plant-derived remedies; one such herb being Cerasee. The plant cerasee is native to Africa and the Middle East. When boiled, it is drunk to reduce fever and colds, menstrual and abdominal pains, diabetes and purges the body and blood (Grant, 2016). Many Jamaican and Caribbean natives’ alike use cerasee for the various reasons aforementioned, thus, allowing one to make the conclusion that the practice of drinking cerasee tea has transcended generations. However, as a multitude of different detox tea flood the market in day and age of Instagram models and pharmaceuticals become more advanced, it poses the question of how relevant folk remedies such as cerasee tea really is?  Therefore, as the newer generations become more disenchanted with traditional practices it seems that use of folk remedies – in this case drinking of cerasee tea – is mainly practiced by older individuals with few retention among younger individuals.

If you have pesky wasps flying around your porch like I did, try this folk hack by @crowsmoonconjure. Take some of your dryer lint and put it in a paper bag and hang it from your porch light or somewhere by the door's entrance. For some reason they start avoiding the area. I can attest to the fact that it works. Madrina says you can add herbs too if you want for banishing or protection. #conjurehack #hoodoosecrets #folkremedies #wasps (at Prescott, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/creole_moon/p/BxD-ZjfAFGI/?igshid=7rhgmygrimrq

Repost @herbalacademy Student #regram by @rowanandsage: "Fire Cider 🔥 For colds, flus, fevers and winter wellness. Below you'll find a recipe for our base blend. We add a variety of other herbs specific to the immune and respiratory systems for our final product but the basics are the same! ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ingredients: ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Half Gallon sized glass jar with BPA-free plastic top (or wax paper square to go in between glass and metal lid) - 1 whole chopped onion - 1 head of chopped garlic - 1 cup fresh sliced horseradish root - 4-6 hot peppers (we used scotch bonnets, jalapenos, and cayenne) - 1/2 cup chopped ginger (we added the greens too because we had them so why not use them?!) - 1/2 cup of chopped turmeric - 1/2 cup of rosehips - 2 tsps black peppercorns - about a quart and a half of raw Apple Cider Vinegar ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Add all ingredients to your jar and shake it up real well. Open the jar and make sure all contents are submerged. Add ACV until everything is covered. Set in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks and shake daily. The contents will sink down within 2 weeks and you will be able to add more ACV as it goes; do so if you wish. This is the point where we typically add additional herbs like hyssop, mullein, rosemary, thyme, sage, or whatever other herbs are calling to us from the garden. After 4-6 weeks, strain and add equal amounts of honey. Take a few droppers or a shot daily to prevent winter illnesses. Fire Cider is a folk remedy that reminds us to use whatever is available and most potent in the season when we are making it. You can keep it real simple or add lots of things for specific ailments. Make it your own! #freefirecider" Have you made Fire Cider before? 💥 . . . . . #firecider #myherbalstudies #herbalremedies #herbalpreparations #studentshares #herbalacademy #applecidervinegar #fireciderforthepeople #firecidertonic #folkherbalism #folkremedies #folkherbalist #immunesystem #immunebooster #immunesupport #herbalist #herbalists #herbalistlife #herballifestyle #backtoourroots #herbalallies #DIYherbs #herblove #plantpeople #makeityourself https://www.instagram.com/p/B3t0Us2FhZ5/?igshid=1nshnhnqzucg6

Dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries, witch bottles are still found to this day buried in the chimneys, or under floors in historic homes, and uncovered during restoration or home improvements. To date around one hundred Witch Bottles have been uncovered both in Britain and in North America. While the first printed use of the term ‘Witch Bottle’dates from 1845, the practice is much older. In 1670 a ballad appeared titled ‘A miraculous cure for witchcraft, or, Strange news from the Blew-Boar in Holburn’. The story tells of a girl bewitched, who after two failed attempts to rid her of the Witches curse, finds a ‘chymist’ who instructs her in the making of a witch bottle. The girl is told to place her urine in the bottle as well as other aiding ingredients, and bury it in a hill without displacing it. The story then tells of the girl waiting at the hill, where the witch appears demanding the bottle, when this request is refused the witch then dies, and the girl is cured. These other aiding ingredients mentioned in the Ballard, and found in actual deposited bottles, include nails, thorns, bent pins, hair and fingernails; as well as urine. The inclusion of urine it is believed was used as a supernatural lure, where upon entering the bottle the Witch would be trapped by the sharp objects contained within. The sympathetic folkloric connection between witchcraft and the urine of the bewitched victims, is recorded in two sources; the first in 1647 by astrologer William Lilly, and the second in 1665 by physician and apothecary William Drage. It is Drage who identifies the use of a bottle in order to deflect bewitchment. The placement of Witch Bottles hidden in chimneys and buried in walls, further alludes to (Continued in the comments). #darkhistory #macabre #historyofmedicine #medicinebottles #ceramics #handmadegifts #gothictales #pottery #bottleart #bottleartwork #folklore #folkremedies #folkart #witchtrials #17thcentury #witchcraft #folkmedicine #historyofmedicine #medicalhistory #strangehistory #17thcentury #17thcenturystyle #halloween2021 #halloweenhistory #macabremonday #macabremondays #magick #witchbottle #witchbottles #apotropaic https://www.instagram.com/p/CU4wNkaLlHD/?utm_medium=tumblr
