☆ six hairstyles!!!!1! (no idea what to title this) ☆
a bit random, but i guess the common theme here is micro bangs. suitable for your vampires and darkly-inclined simmies (or whoever really). most of these were wips from last year and the way i make hairs has changed a bit since, but thought i'd still share them.
unedited CAS screenshots and more info under the cut.
BGC
feminine frame
24 EA swatches + 17 extras
teen-elder
hat compatible
all LODS, all maps

thank you so much for the support <3 if there are any issues, please lmk
still not sure if i like render previews so i included CAS pics anyway. renders are nice looking but they don’t accurately preview how CC looks in-game and they can take a long time, at least on my PC still running on 2017 hardware. my GPU is decent but everything else, not so much. anyway...
Maila 🦇 (7377 polys)
named after Maila Nurmi aka Vampira, this is a Chelsea cut with v-shaped bangs and pigtails. this was actually a request i did last year based on someone's OC. idk if they have a Tumblr, but shoutout to them anyway <3
Rosario 📿 (16625 polys)
another older one. i'm thinking about making this unisex but i'm so dejected rn i don't feel like opening Blender for a bit (someday tho). it's not locked to fem frames but it will clip with the neck when put on masc frames.
Odette ⚰ (15485 polys)
based on this one hairstyle i saw on Pinterest, i can't find it for some reason even though i made this fairly recently.
Lucinda ☀ (19814 polys)
wavy jellyfish cut, this is the most recent one i made. it’s for an OC of mine and it's probably my favorite out of all these. maybe.
Yesenia 🕷 (10869 polys)
just a little edit of the L&D updo, nothing too special. made this when the pack just came out. i could’ve done more with it and added more strands because i like to suffer but it’s fine.
Valentina 🖤 (17332 polys)
idk honestly. this was meant to be for personal use but i thought it was cute enough to share.

While we’re on the subject of names, is there an explanation for how traditional nicknames came about that are seemingly unrelated to, or have little in common with, the original name?
ie- John/Jack, Richard/Dick, Henry/Harry/Hank, Charles/Chuck, Margaret/Peggy/Daisy, Sarah/Sally, Mary/Molly, Anne/Nan, etc
I am actually over a week into researching a huge follow-up post (probably more than one if I’m being honest) about the history of nickname usage, so I will be going into this in much, much more detail at a hopefully not-so-later date - if I have not lost my mind. (Two days ago I spent three hours chasing down a source lead that turned out to be a typographical error from 1727 that was then quoted in source after source for the next 150 years.)
As a preview though, here’s some info about the names you mentioned:
The origins of a good portion of common English nicknames come down to the simple fact that people really, really like rhyming things. Will 🠞Bill, Rob🠞Bob, Rick🠞Dick, Meg🠞Peg.
It may seem like a weird reason, but how many of you have known an Anna/Hannah-Banana? I exclusively refer to my Mom’s cat as Toes even though her name is Moe (Moesie-Toesies 🠞 Toesies 🠞 Toes).
Jack likely evolved from the use of the Middle English diminutive suffix “-chen” - pronounced (and often spelled) “-kyn” or “kin”. The use of -chen as a diminutive suffix still endures in modern German - as in “liebchen” = sweetheart (lieb “love” + -chen).
John (Jan) 🠞 Jankin 🠞 Jackin 🠞 Jack.
Hank was also originally a nickname for John from the same source. I and J were not distinct letters in English until the 17th Century. “Iankin” would have been nearly indistinguishable in pronunciation from “Hankin” due to H-dropping. It’s believed to have switched over to being a nickname for Henry in early Colonial America due to the English being exposed to the Dutch nickname for Henrik - “Henk”.
Harry is thought to be a remnant of how Henry was pronounced up until the early modern era. The name was introduced to England during the Norman conquest as the French Henri (On-REE). The already muted nasal n was dropped in the English pronunciation. With a lack of standardized spelling, the two names were used interchangeably in records throughout the middle ages. So all the early English King Henrys would have written their name Henry and pronounced it Harry.
Sally and Molly likely developed simply because little kids can’t say R’s or L’s. Mary 🠞 Mawy 🠞 Molly. Sary 🠞 Sawy 🠞 Sally.
Daisy became a nickname for Margaret because in French garden daisies are called marguerites.
Nan for Anne is an example of a very cool linguistic process called rebracketing, where two words that are often said/written together transfer letters/morphemes over time. The English use of “an” instead of “a” before words beginning with vowels is a common cause of rebracketing. For example: the Middle English “an eute” became “a newt”, and “a napron” became “an apron”. In the case of nicknames the use of the archaic possessive “mine” is often the culprit. “Mine Anne” over time became “My Nan” as “mine” fell out of use. Ned and Nell have the same origin.
Oddly enough the word “nickname” is itself a result of rebracketing, from the Middle English “an eke (meaning additional) name”.
I realized earlier this week that my cat (Toe’s sister) also has a rebracketing nickname. Her name is Mina, but I call her Nom Nom - formed by me being very annoying and saying her name a bunch of time in a row - miNAMiNAMiNAM.
Chuck is a very modern (20th century) nickname which I’ll have to get back to you on as I started my research in the 16th century and am only up to the 1810s so far lol.
#names#nicknames#onomastics#history#asks#nicknames are really hard to research you guys#there is so much info out there and it's almost all nonsense#and I'm talking academic books with listed sources not buzzfeed listicles#some guy in the 18th century forgetting to mention Bill on a list of common nicknames does not mean it wasn't in use at the time ma dude#i've had to get very creative with sources#god bless word for word murder trial testimony

Would devil Malleus be happy if Ieft him a bowl of ice-cream for him

Um, sir ? Mr demon ? Devil guy ? Do you know how expensive literal ice is in this day an age ? (a non specified, no electrical and modern industry technology age)
Yeah Malleus seems to appreciate ice cream :) I imagine it's pistachio bird shaped ice cream, or maybe vanilla. Either way it's expensive flavors, I'm sorry Trey.
#Twst#Croissant de lune#twst trey#twst malleus#Man spent an entire evening making ice cream and it gets stolen ouch#it is a delicacy and a luxury after all so obviously it was going to get snatched#uhhh I improvised a plate to keep the ice cool like the ones that were used to keep the butter cool ?? those small terra cotta plates#ik that ice ice was harvested in winter and kept in silo-like buildings that went deep into the ground and the ice was piled in there#in like non modern times i mean - like 17/18th century#the butter thing was still used by our grandparents and greatgps though#also I vividly remember a tv program presented by Stéphane Bern about food and cooking from before and there was this bird ice cream mould#I cannot find it anywhere I'm going insane I'm p sure the program also talked about ?? strawberry omelette ??#finding a particular french historical documentary presented by Stéphane Bern is like looking for a pin in a haystack anyway

Utilization: By his anatomical peculiarities this dog is predestinated to puffin-hunting on the steep rocks around the fjords and along the shore.

The standard:
Neck: Clean-cut, of medium length, quite strong with a relatively well furnished collar.
Compendium comment:
The head is carried relatively low. The two last vertebrae (atlas/apsis) are shaped so that the dog can bend backwards so that the head touches the back. To do so is vital when turning in the narrow burrows. NB! This should NEVER be demonstrated the ring!

The standard:
Ears: Triangular ears of medium size, broad at the base, carried erect and very mobile. The cartilage of the ear lobe has the faculty of being able to retract itself so that the ear folds itself and flops in a specific manner, either backwards or in right angle upwards, so as to close the auditory passage.
Compendium addition:
The ears of the Lundehund have a unique muscle that enables them to fold and close the ears when entering the burrows, thus protecting them against dirt and moisture. The turning and folding of the ears probably also is help in locating the birds.

The standard:
Forelimbs: Moderately angulated. Forearm: Straight.
Forefeet: Oval shaped, turning slightly outwards, with at least six toes of which five must rest on the ground. Eight pads on each foot. The two inner toes, formed respectively by 3 and 2 phalanges and endowed with a ligamentary and muscular system, make the foot look solid.
Compendium addition:
Very flexible and elastic shoulder muscles. The Lundehund has joints that allow the forelimbs to extend at nearly 90 degrees from the body, but this must NEVER be demonstrated in the ring! The forefeet turn slightly outwards to give room for the extra toes.
The Norwegian Lundehund is a polydactyl. Instead of the normal 4 digits, the Lundehund normally has 6 digits, all fully formed, jointed and muscled, with tendons going up the inside of the leg, partly responsible for its wide front gait. Some specimen may have more, others less than 6 digits per foot, but less than 6 on front feet should lead to downgrading. The extra toes help the dog climbing up and down crevices in screes and cliffs.

The standard:
Hindfeet : Oval shaped, turned slightly outwards, with at least six toes - four of which must rest on the ground. Seven pads on each foot, the one in the middle, the most important one by its size, being attached to the inner pads corresponding to the two inner toes. When the dog is standing up on a flat surface, the weight of the body must be evenly distributed on the pads.
Compendium comment:
More than 6 digits is not a fault. 5 digits are acceptable on the hind feet. The extra toes on the hind feet are normally less developed than those on the forelegs and variations from the ideal, both regarding number and placement, should not be penalized.

The standard:
Gait/Movement: Light and elastic. An external rotary action of the forelegs and somewhat close action behind is characteristic of the breed.
Compendium comment:
In judging the movements of the Lundehund, one must consider that this dog is built to climb efficiently up and down steep cliffs and screes. The extra pads on both fore- and hind paws must then touch the surface to aid the dog in climbing. The extra toes help getting a grip, both in ascent and descent. The wide front with extra flexibility enables climbing safely up and down crevices, as the forelegs can grip at a 90 degrees angle to the body. On flat surfaces, the Lundehund will show typical rotating front movements, due to tendons and muscles from the extra digits on the inside of the legs. Hind movements are narrow.
#norwegian lundehund#lundehund breed compendium#(excerpts)#photos from the compendium + the top from a veterinary journal on outcrossing#is2g every time i talk about this breed it sounds like youre making a fantasy species thats a Dog But Slightly Off#long post#some of these traits appear in other primitive breeds as well#lundehunds were described in 17th and 18th century texts. but we know there have been dogs in this area for thousands of years#plently long enough to produce a freak of nature (<3)

im going to be honest with you, most of the victorian era was one of the worst single periods of womens fashion in europe. like if you lose your layman's innocence and really start looking at the fashion plates and civilian photographs from the period you will eventually start to notice that basically everyone looks like dogshit. there are hits but they are few and far between
#the hair especially was god awful#and following the two bangers of the 18th century and the Georgian period its truly the wet fart sound of historical fashion#however it was quickly followed by the even worse 20s after a short period of relief in the edwardian#the reason we think everyone was a sexy flapper in the 20s is because no one looks at photos of real people from that time#every non-celebrity woman in the 1920s looked like a burlap sack full of doorknobs#despite still being in girdles the boxy tailoring made everyone into a formless rumple

I love your art! It reminds me of tarot cards a bit. It's very beautiful. I think Machete would be Death, the Hermit, or the Moon. Vasco would be the Empire, the Sun, or the King of Cups or Pentacles. I could also see them being pictured together on the Lovers or the Tower.
Illustrating a tarot deck has been one of my dream projects for, like, at least a decade now. But it would be a massive undertaking, the major arcana alone would be 22 pieces.
Personally, I tend to see Vasco in the Sun, Strength, the Wheel of Fortune and the suit of Cups.
And Machete in the Hierophant, the Chariot, the Moon and the suit of Swords.
I agree, both of them are the Lovers and the Tower.
#answered#little-catholic-jester#Machete is highly swords-coded I've used the cards as inspiration before#did you know that tarot cards originate in northern Italy? and were popular in Vasco's and Machete's time?#at the time they were just regular playing cards their use as a divination tool only emerged in the late 18th century
