question, I know Italian is a gendered language, but are there any “gender neutral” romantic pet names people call each other?? (Yes they’re still Italian to ME Tobias!!)

So, I’ve touched on this before, but many “object names” are gender neutral. If you call someone an angel in English, that is a neutral endearment, and it is in Italian too. Angelo mio (my angel) can be said to any gender. Other examples:

Tesoro mio = my treasure

Amore mio= my love

There are exceptions, especially if you’re using pet names (literally); the word “kitten” must be gendered gattino (m) or gattina (f)—but micio, which is a slang word for “cute cat,” is neutral.

Other gender-neutral choices might be

Bene mio = my good(ness), as in, “you are everything that is good for me”

Vita mia = my life

Mio cuore = my heart

There has been an active group of linguists in Italy who have been attempting to create a third GN option for otherwise binary terms like caro and cara (dearest) by ending them with the schwa (ə), rendering them neutral (carə, pronounced CAH-rø), but that initiative hasn’t picked up much speed, unfortunately.

The part I like about the lore changing every time Tobias talks is the freedom to pick and choose from each era and create my own thing. To me the papas are still all Italian and your guide has been incredibly helpful with that! (thank you so much for making it) I hope you know it's definitely not pointless and the papas are Italian truthers will continue to exist :)

I've known about Ghost since their beginning but only 3 years ago really got into them and I've always wondered why they all have an accent? Is it supposed to be Italian accent? Did Tobias ever reveal more of their background lore? From what I understand the church is based in LA? So how did they end up there? X

I wish I could answer all these questions. Though none of the last four real popes was Italian, they all lived in the Vatican in Rome, so perhaps that’s part of it; also Tobias Forge is a known Italophile, and he approaches Italian culture with a lot of whimsy, the way he approaches Ghost lore.

I don’t know if he’s ever explicitly said they were Italian, but the second and third Papas referred to themselves upon introduction in Italian:

“Io sono Papa Emeritus Secondo.” (I am Papa Emeritus the Second)

“Io sono Papa Emeritus Terzo” (I am Papa Emeritus the Third)

As for Cardi C, we know he was raised by a German woman, so it doesn’t make much sense that he has an Italian accent nor that his given name, Copia, is also Italian; but I’m starting to understand that the lore is more of a changeable fluid structure than anything else. And again, it only follows Tobias’s mood at any given moment. So that’s my best guess! Evviva il Papa!

* Also, papa V apparently has sort of a non-descript accent that seems to change from ritual to ritual so far.

Foxyyyyy I have an Italian request! How would dear Copia say "Kiss me" to a gender neutral person, but he means it in the osculum obscenum kind of way? Thank you my dear!

So, osculum obscenum refers to kissing directly on the butthole (see video evidence of Copia doing this onstage to a goat plushie LOL) but if that’s what you’re asking, the phrase would be “baciami il buco,” or “bacia il mio buco” (but the first is more likely used). I suppose you could also say “baciami il culo,” but that’s more of an insult like “kiss my ass.”

“Baciami” (kiss me) is already gender-neutral, since it is a command-verb.

Tea at night (herbal or decaf but always flavorful), I mainline coffee during the day, and hot cocoa when I’m not too lazy to make Italian hot chocolate. ☕️🍫

We are growing things all the time! Harvest includes avocados, tomatoes, various herbs and spices, peppers, mangos, lychees, limes, and we are now trying various lettuces.

We also raise many orchids, aloe plants, tea tree, gardenia, cyclamens, bamboo, and many others at Casa Foxy!

To be honest, it doesn’t matter to me anymore if there is “hard evidence” that he does anything. His reaction to the accusations are telling enough. He literally laughs about them and used his friends’ ethnicities and religion to make himself look good. That’s fucked up. I don’t think I can ever see him in a positive light again after that. Sure, I don’t know him. He’s a stranger, and I shouldn’t expect him to be perfect in my eyes. But when he is associated with a band that I think highly of and that has saved me multiple times, yeah I’m gonna be upset about that and hope he gets canned. Sorry not sorry.

You’re entitled, and I’m not inclined to sit here and continue to speculate on his motives, words or actions. Seriously doubt anyone is going to get the contrite words they want from him.

I also don’t have a problem with people disagreeing with me on this, and if you’re dead set on canceling Per or anyone else in the band for that matter, that is certainly your right.

It’s not a matter of benefit of the doubt, it’s not a matter of infantilizing or defending people. Just stating what I’m going to do. Everyone has their own judgment. I don’t have a problem removing my attention from anyone whose behavior or actions truly repulse me. I’ve done it before with this band— and that’s as far as I’m going to explain my position.
