Rising Menace of Ad Fraud in the MENA Region
In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region digital advertising has recently witnessed widespread adoption, whether from the consumer’s end or by a brand. This has led to the expansion of digital advertising landscape in the region. However, ad fraud is proving to be the major hurdle in the evolving ad landscape.
Ad fraud in UAE or middle east
The MENA digital advertising and marketing ecosystem stood at US$8.11 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach US$17.36 billion by 2029.
Challenges in combating Ad fraud in the UAE or MENA Region
This highlights a potent challenge that brands have been reeling under. Brands have a large pool of budgets allocated towards digital spending and it becomes imperative for marketers to ensure that every dollar spent yields returns by maximizing ‘real’ engagement. Fraudulent activities such as click spamming, domain spoofing, and fake installs among others can manipulate the campaign which directly impacts the advertiser’s ability to generate ROI.

How to detect scam links in discord
i just learned how people make scam links in discord appear legit (for the untrained eye)
It's very easy to find the way to do it actually (it's slightly modified markdown), but as for how to identify it :
You can make any text clickable with a hyperlink. But a genuine link always has a header (http:// or something similar). Now discord has a security in that aspect : you cannot put a hyperlink on top of an actual link, so the only way for you to make a fraudulous link appear like it links to a genuine url (like the steam gift card example I saw today, which had all the normal steamcommunity.com url you'd expect from a legit link to a Steam page), you have to cut the header off.
Which means your link will look like this : url.somewhere.com
Instead of this : https://url.somewhere.com
(by the way, in the url of pages you're using, Google Chrome usually hides the protocol in the header, rather telling you whether or not the page you're on is secure or not. This is not great, as it is not showing what a complete link looks like, and makes people more likely to not see anything wrong with a url that does not have a header. Firefox always shows it, and anyone should be used to seeing the header in a url.)
So any hyperlink (clickable link) without a header is most likely a scam. Discord automatically detects a url via its header, it cannot link to anything without it, so not seeing it is a red flag. But wait there's more ! When you hover over a hyperlink, it shows you the url it links to. If you hid it with text, it will show you both the text and the url.
If the url at the bottom is any different to the text, the person who posted it is trying to trick you.
Obviously, never click a "free steam gift card $50" link from anyone on a public server, but if you want to better identify any form of fraudulous link that could be shared on discord, this is the best way to tell if it actually links to what is says.

Meeting for tea with Bumble person this Saturday at noon. I’m kinda looking forward to it. Unlike last time, I felt so focused on…getting a good grade in first date? This feels more like I’m meeting up with a friend and I’m not so focused on Doing First Date Right. Still nervous that I’ll be awkward or they’ll be completely different than advertised, but not as badly as my first first date.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #16
April 26-May 3 2024
President Biden announced $3 billion to help replace lead pipes in the drinking water system. Millions of Americans get their drinking water through lead pipes, which are toxic, no level of lead exposure is safe. This problem disproportionately affects people of color and low income communities. This first investment of a planned $15 billion will replace 1.7 million lead pipe lines. The Biden Administration plans to replace all lead pipes in the country by the end of the decade.
President Biden canceled the student debt of 317,000 former students of a fraudulent for-profit college system. The Art Institutes was a for-profit system of dozens of schools offering degrees in video-game design and other arts. After years of legal troubles around misleading students and falsifying data the last AI schools closed abruptly without warning in September last year. This adds to the $29 billion in debt for 1.7 borrowers who wee mislead and defrauded by their schools which the Biden Administration has done, and a total debt relief for 4.6 million borrowers so far under Biden.
President Biden expanded two California national monuments protecting thousands of acres of land. The two national monuments are the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, which are being expanded by 120,000 acres. The new protections cover lands of cultural and religious importance to a number of California based native communities. This expansion was first proposed by then Senator Kamala Harris in 2018 as part of a wide ranging plan to expand and protect public land in California. This expansion is part of the Administration's goals to protect, conserve, and restore at least 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.
The Department of Transportation announced new rules that will require car manufacturers to install automatic braking systems in new cars. Starting in 2029 all new cars will be required to have systems to detect pedestrians and automatically apply the breaks in an emergency. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration projects this new rule will save 360 lives every year and prevent at least 24,000 injuries annually.
The IRS announced plans to ramp up audits on the wealthiest Americans. The IRS plans on increasing its audit rate on taxpayers who make over $10 million a year. After decades of Republicans in Congress cutting IRS funding to protect wealthy tax cheats the Biden Administration passed $80 billion for tougher enforcement on the wealthy. The IRS has been able to collect just in one year $500 Million in undisputed but unpaid back taxes from wealthy households, and shows a rise of $31 billion from audits in the 2023 tax year. The IRS also announced its free direct file pilot program was a smashing success. The program allowed tax payers across 12 states to file directly for free with the IRS over the internet. The IRS announced that 140,000 tax payers were able to use it over their target of 100,000, they estimated it saved $5.6 million in tax prep fees, over 90% of users were happy with the webpage and reported it quicker and easier than companies like H&R Block. the IRS plans to bring direct file nationwide next year.
The Department of Interior announced plans for new off shore wind power. The two new sites, off the coast of Oregon and in the Gulf of Maine, would together generate 18 gigawatts of totally clean energy, enough to power 6 million homes.
The Biden Administration announced new rules to finally allow DACA recipients to be covered by Obamacare. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an Obama era policy that allows people brought to the United States as children without legal status to remain and to legally work. However for years DACA recipients have not been able to get health coverage through the Obamacare Health Care Marketplace. This rule change will bring health coverage to at least 100,000 uninsured people.
The Department of Health and Human Services finalized rules that require LGBTQ+ and Intersex minors in the foster care system be placed in supportive and affirming homes.
The Senate confirmed Georgia Alexakis to a life time federal judgeship in Illinois. This brings the total number of federal judges appointed by President Biden to 194. For the first time in history the majority of a President's nominees to the federal bench have not been white men.

genuinely asking: why do you have such an enthusiastic stance on voter fraud? im not casting moral judgement here, im genuinely curious as to the reasoning behind this stance. ty :)
We've discussed this before on the blog, but in summary: we allow voter fraud because there is no feasible way to prevent it. We're lucky enough to have graphs that allow us to track one particular strain of easily detectable cases of fraud (i.e. one person spamming votes by repeatedly making new accounts), but there are plenty of other variants that are above our skill level we can't track or prove.
There are also ways of getting votes that some people may consider legitimate that might, to others, feel ill-gotten. We've seen fans flooding in from Twitter and other platforms to vote for their favorite ship. Does that count as fraudulent? How about someone promising to write/draw requests for any of their followers who vote for their preferred ship? Or maybe someone just has one alternate account that they use to cast a second vote?
Ultimately, if we try to say that X, Y, and Z are not allowed, then people become incentivized to accuse the opposition of X, Y, and Z to get them removed from the bracket. So, how do we stay fair and set rules when we have no way to reliably enforce them?
Easiest solution: level the playing field. Make it clear that everything goes! If any side is allowed to fraud, then it becomes a game of passion! And that's significantly more fun.

I don't know, the older I get, the more I feel like getting an intentionally fraudulent academic paper published in a peer-reviewed journal doesn't actually show anything other than maybe that peer review isn't good at detecting intentional fraud.
Hey, maybe there ought to be an academic discipline that traces these things! A discipline charged with giving a social account of knowledge production. A sort of..."science studies", if you will.

Buy Instagram followers, likes, and YouTube subscribers can have both positive and negative implications. One potential benefit of purchasing these services is the potential increase in visibility and reach. By buying Instagram followers, individuals or businesses can boost their content's visibility and potentially reach a wider audience. This increased visibility can lead to higher engagement and potentially attract more organic followers and likes. Similarly, buy youtube subscribers can help increase the number of views and engagement on videos, making the channel more appealing to potential viewers. However, there are risks associated with buying fake followers, likes, and subscribers. Purchasing these services from unreliable sources can result in fake or inactive accounts, which provide no real value to the profile or channel. Buy Instagram likes can also lead to a loss of credibility and growth on social media platforms. Additionally, platforms like Instagram have algorithms in place to detect and penalize accounts that engage in fraudulent activities, which can result in account suspension or even permanent banning. It is important to consider these risks before deciding to buy followers, likes, or subscribers.

Former US President Donald Trump, on the advice of Henry Kissinger, sought to adjust to the new international distribution of power by “getting along with Russia” and instead focus US resources towards countering the rise of China. Trump was for several years presented as a Russian agent, a suspicion that lingers on even after the allegations and evidence were proven to be fraudulent. During the US Presidential election in 2020 Russia was blamed for placing bounties on the life of US troops in Afghanistan, another evidence-free allegation that was retracted after the election. The Hunter Biden laptop scandal proving Joe Biden’s corruption in Ukraine and China was then denounced as another Russian disinformation campaign before it was proven that the emails were authentic and Moscow had no involvement. Russia was accused of hacking the French election system until the French authorities disclosed there were no traces of a Russian hack. Moscow’s manipulation purportedly has a crucial impact on almost all elections and referendums across the West, although the accusations tend to either lack evidence or are proven to be wrong. The Russians allegedly hacked into the Vermont electric grid, which was revealed to be another false story that had to be retracted. Russia purportedly used a secret energy weapon against US troops in Syria and the US Embassy in Havana, although it was exposed to have been food poisoning and crickets. Sweden routinely discovers threatening Russian submarines when there are debates about increasing defence spending or joining NATO, which has been proven to be minks, vessels, broken buoys, and even the detection of farts from various animals. [...]
Caught up in the Russiagate hysteria, several British newspapers reported that “half of the Russians in London are spies”. Out of 150,000 Russians living in London, approximately 75,000 of them are Russian spies according to a report by the Henry Jackson Society, a think tank with an anti-Russian bent, which was then repeated as an “expert report” by various British media outlets (Hope, 2018). The British Daily Star reported that experts claim “Vladimir Putin’s war threats are why aliens haven’t made first contact”, as the barbarism and “primitive behaviour” of Russia reflect poorly on the ability of human beings to join any advanced Galactic Federation (Jameson, 2022). [...]
The success of propaganda does not depend primarily on selling specific accusations, but on selling the binary stereotypes through constant repetition. Once allegations against Russia are exposed as fraudulent it does not appear to vindicate Moscow, it does not result in the removal of sanctions imposed based on false information, and it does not alter the overall narrative about Russia. Instead, the stereotype of a meddling and intrusive Russia seeking to undermine democracy remains after the accusations and evidence have collapsed. While the debunking of these stories should give way to a rational debate that reconsiders and recalibrates the threat perception from Russia, the narratives about Russia remain convincing as they do not merely appeal to reason. A Pavlovian reflex of contempt for Russia informs and strengthens the overarching narrative. There is little accountability for false stories about Russia, rather journalists and politicians are often propelled up the hierarchy of their profession. Instead of serving as a caution for future accusations, the false stories open the door for more accusations as the false stories are cited as a “pattern of behaviour” that strengthens the narrative of a belligerent Russia.

Okay consider: Tddk Johnlock AU. Kinda.
Izuku is an excellent (and fraudulent) detective who is faking a psychic quirk and constantly expects to be Found Out. He has adopted that bbc!sherlock-typical dramatic flair to distract people from noticing anything. But also at least some of the mania is real because he just genuinely loves his job. he loves solving crimes and helping people. He declares high profile rich people cases as "Boring!" and leaves to help a little girl find her rabbit. People think he's a mad lad. He routinely gets into so much fucking trouble. He is the bane of Tsukauchi's existence. He's incredibly lonely. and also a borderline vigilante. He is the only Consulting Detective in the world. He is in need of a roommate.
On the other hand- Todoroki Shouto. Todoroki has had a hellish couple years. He stayed isolated and removed through all three years of U.A. Endeavor never succeeded in convincing him to use his fire but he did, through a variety of means, manage to pressure him into joining his agency after UA. This, of course, went horribly. It all comes to a head when Shouto disobeys direct orders and lets a villain go to protect a civilian family. He ends up using his fire in the ensuing fight, resulting in property damage, a bullet in his shoulder and a psychosomatic leg injury. Endeavor demands to know when he's coming back now that he's done with his "childish rebellion". Shouto snaps and hands in his resignation. (Lots of media drama. Shouto's half a legend, half disgrace) Endeavor cuts off his finances and also his options (as in-other agencies). Shouto tries to look into other careers but finds that he misses the thrill of heroism, if nothing else. He's on his last legs when he runs into an old acquaintance......
"I don't know.....couldn't you get a flat share or something?"
Todoroki finds himself scoffing "Please, who'd want me for a flatmate?" But Uraraka laughs suddenly, thoughtful.
"What?"
"It's just....you're the second person to say that to me today."

Tim: Yeah, Ra’s keeps my spleen in a jar in his room. It’s weird.
Damian:
Damian: …where did you get this fraudulent information? I don’t see my grandfather wanting to keep anyone’s spleen, much less yours.
Tim: Dude, just trust me on this. He was weirdly obsessed with me when you were busy running around with Dick, calling me ‘Detective’ like I was Bruce. It was…awkward.
Damian: Doesn’t he call ALL of us Detective? Besides, he actually went through the effort of surgery to save your life instead of the pit. You should be thankful.
Tim: I feel like that latter part falls under basic human decency. I don’t think anyone wants to experience pit madness—
Damian: —which is very brief and only lasts a few minutes after resurrection, not healing—
Tim: —which I KNOW, thank you, let me be dramatic. But I’m just saying. I heard it from someone who works with his chambers. Here, look at this note they sent when I asked for a report. Can you blame me for being like, creeped out?
Damian: Yes. Because you lack the comprehensive abilities to realize what a joke is.
Tim:
Damian: I understand that YOU don’t fully understand the League dialect, meaning you can’t detect sarcasm as well, especially through text. Perhaps I should give you lessons sometime to avoid further falsehoods. I’d start brushing up on your Urdu, Punjabi, and MSA if I were you.
Tim:
Damian: Well?
Tim: …yeah, my fault.
Damian then proceeds to never let Tim live this down. It’s funny every time.

Question for ya, Skyen: have you ever heard of Guilty Gear?
*leans back in chair*
Oh very nice try detective, but your clever little word games won't trip me up so easily. Guilty or innocent? That is for you to prove in a court of law, against all reasonable doubt, and I can assure you, detective, you will get nowhere trying to pry fraudulent confessions out of me in this little interrogation room of yours. Now if you don't mind, I shall either sit here and wait for my lawyer to arrive, wasting both of our time, or you can let me go and we can both get on with our day. I've not had lunch and I'm so hungry that, *chuckles softly* it feels like I could feed an entire town inside me.

Prosecutors in Pennsylvania are investigating a Democrat group in Arizona after discovering batches of “fraudulent” voter registration forms and mail-in ballot applications in the Keystone State.
A Pennsylvania prosecutor is investigating roughly 30 voter applications that were identified as “fraudulent.”
Officials have now linked several of the applications to an Arizona-based group that is working in Lancaster County where the fraud was detected.
The registration forms were spotted by the county’s board of elections officials, who then separated the forms and referred the matter for further investigation, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso said in a statement.
At least some of the forms were submitted by “Field and Media Corps,” an apparent subsidiary of Fieldcorp, an Arizona-based organization working in Lancaster County, according to Mancuso.
“The broader investigation continues with reference to Fieldcorp’s involvement,” he said.
The CEO and co-founder of Field and Media Corps is Francisco Heredia, a Democrat Mesa City Councilman.
