(Want to put this one out for public) What would you say is the most impressive action figure you've personally bought?
"Impressive" is a tough word considering the… let's be charitable and say "significant" number of figures I've collected over many, many years.
I have many I consider beautiful, or iconic representations of characters I love, but that's not the same thing, though there is heavy overlap as I tend to only buy figures of characters I like.
I have even been gifted with some extraordinary unique ones, in the form of unreleased versions, or custome mad figures by incredibly talented people.
But you didn't ask for "Favourite" or "Most valuable", you asked for "Impressive" and even then I can only narrow it down to a few
I own an original G1 Transformers Japanese box set of the Predacons. (It was more of a complicated international (three continent) swap between different fandoms, but I did the co-ordinating, and money was involved in getting this as my end result)
Tumblr media
This one isn't mine, but it's the same set
The individual beast modes look great, their individual robot modes are cool and Predaking himself is freaking awesome.
Tumblr media
It might be cheating as it's not a single figure, its a combiner but it was SOLD as the combined figure so I'm loopholing it in! :P
The Figma Table Museum series is amazing, with action figure representations of figures from art and history, including DaVinci's Vitruvian Man, Botticelli's Birth of Venus, Michelangelo's David, Munsch's The Scream and Rodin's Thinker amongst others
But my favourite is their Tutankhamun, which has a staggering level of detail. The regular version has the mummy with a beautiful sculpt of the famous death mask. The DX version includes one of the sarcophagi that the mummy was found in, which the figure fits inside and, again, the sculpting is remarkable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus a random shout out to Figma's other figures, which are never less than impressive
And I would be remiss if I didn't include at least one of the Saint Seiya Myth Cloths (So, I'm going to include two).
Andromeda Shun is one of my all time favourite characters, and the figures they have created for him are stunning, especially once the geeks who grew up on the roginal anime grew up and started working on making action figures themselves
This is what the original mass market 1987 figure for Shun looked like which, I should add in case I seem churlish, I remain inordinately fond of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what the 2010 Myth Cloth looked like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bit of a glow up, isn't it! :) (Pricewise too, but that's neither here nor there)
And the Gold Libra Saint remains a remarkable creation, the representational form of a pair of weighing scales transforming nicely into not only the Cloth itself, but the six pairs of weapons it contains, one for each of the Gold Saints
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honourable mention to several of NECA's lines, like Gargoyles and Fraggle Rock, which are impressive sculpts
Oh, and a shoutout out for sheer mechanical creativity goes to the BeastBox series from 52Toys. The main gimmick being that each figure, no matter how large or complex, unfolds from a standard modular 1.5" cube shape
I only have a few of them, because I suspect I could get VERY hooked on these, but these include White Noise, the owl (looking like Bubo from Clash of the Titans got an upgrade)
Tumblr media
and Ironblood and Loyalheart, the twin battle bunnies who share a cube between them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, I suspect I will surprise no one in that perhaps the one that continues to impress me each and every time I see it is one related to another characterI am forever associated with.
Which is of course, Robin, the Boy Wonder!
This is the Hot Toys Batman 1966 version, which is a superb 11" figure generally (allowing for some of the ever present issues with fabrics on smaller figures, meaning his cape is rather over-stitched so it's not too fragile)
Tumblr media
But it's the face sculpt which gets me every time, this is way beyond the uncanny valley and right into the downright eeriely lifelike (And no surprise there, Hot Toys are legendary for their likenesses)
THIS is a plastic sculpt and paint job? They've even given him freaking FRECKLES!! (He probably has nose hair too, though I admit I've never checked for that... I'm weird, but not THAT flavour of weird)
Tumblr media
Though, me being me, you might also not be surprised that I am also fond of the sculpting on this other Hot Toys Robin, though in that case, it's not just the face ;) !

girl im lowkey stalking your profile rn waiting for the next chapter even tho you just updated. sorry you're just such an amazing writer you got me giggling so hard with the way you write the dialogue between mc and remmick. He's so unserious and for what like sir this is not the time to be cracking jokes and being funny you just broke into her home😭😭
you're doing the lord's work over here tho with making it remmick x black reader bc we were in a DIRE need for sinners characters with an explicitly black reader, especially for remmick. mc is my icon and even though we haven't seen her fight anyone yet i just know she's a badass. God bless you i hope both sides of your pillow are cold forever 🫶🏽
AAAHHHH!! You are a SWEETHEART, I LOVE this! Don’t apologize for the anticipation, this is very flattering and I will in fact geek about this comment for like the next week while I finish up this chapter. It’s gonna be another two-ish days, dropping by Friday for sure.
I know it’s looking like I just drop shit and I don’t care about how people react to it but like, you guys have no idea how much I love all this feedback! Like, every single comment makes me happy— whether it’s 2 of you or 300 of you, yall r making the writing of this fic so freaking fun I’m very very grateful😔❤️❤️❤️ I’m glad I’m doing y’all justice, here’s a little sneak peak so that you guys can have a little giggle before I put that next chapter out

Sorry this post is very long but here's my oc's opinions on some of the canonical characters (and how I think they'd feel back)
Joan McCann
Bill Dickey:
"What is that guy's problem?! Jeez!"
• Joan thinks Bill is crazy, always freaking out about something seemingly unimportant.
• She says that she thinks if he'd just chill out they might just get along but she doubts it'll ever happen.
• She doesn't entirely hate him... She's pretty sure he must be going through something to end up like this because surely nobody can just turn out like that... Right?
• Either way she'd hear him out if he needed someone to talk to because maybe, just maybe, deep down she cares about him a little.
"Joan's a total bitch! She's probably not a real geek anyway... Such a poser..."
(I'm sorry he'd hate her so much... They should hug it out and make up for real)
Jerry Stokes:
"He's kinda goofy, no idea how he ended up with these guys. Probably one of the only ones I'd hang out with solo..."
• Joan thinks Jerry is sweet, well at least in comparison. She actively believes that he'll actually end up vaguely sane when they're older.
• She would totally ask him to teach her to play DND "or whatever it is you play" but she's too awkward to ask herself, dropping impossible to spot hints at wanting to play, she's not shy she just doesn't trust him enough to not make fun of her yet.
• She thinks that it's cool that he likes Ghibli movies. She plans on inviting him to a sleepover with Gwen and Alex to watch some.
"She seems nice... A little loud sometimes but nice."
Pete DiNunzio:
"I'll never be the same after I accidentally found his 'goon' material... Gross..."
• Joan thinks that Pete's a weird perv. I mean they all are, but he's the biggest freak in her opinion.
• She would be closer with him if it wasn't for the gore fetish. They get along fairly well in regular conversation, or at least as regular as conversations can get with these people.
• Loves to call his favourite horror icons "girlypop" or "babygirl". She thinks it's the funniest things ever.
"She's cool, got nice tits. She's kinda prickly though."
(I like to think that Pete is just completely unaware that Joan doesn't really like him)
Josh Levy
"He makes me laugh... I don't know if he means to though..."
• Joan finds Josh to be vaguely nice to be around, at least when nobody is pissing him off.
• He got her into the X-files because she liked Dana Scully so much. (and thought both her and Mulder were fit)
• I doubt she'd make fun of him for his weight. She used to get body shamed when she was younger, she's always been a little chubby, and would never do that to someone else.
• Tried to get him into a magical girl anime but just ended up watching MLP with him for the giggles.
"Joan's sweet, really sweet. She actually leaves me alone when I'm pissed rather than irritating me more."
Gwen 'Mousey' Wilkins
Bill Dickey:
"He's... Alot. He's pretty scary to be around when I'm on my shift at work..."
• Gwen is absolutely terrified of this man. God forbid she gets stuck with him on her shift when Ironjaw is nowhere in sight.
• She doesn't defend herself when her geekiness is questioned... Mainly because she too busy trying to breathe to talk in general.
• As a whole she tries to avoid him outside of work as much as possible; she's absolutely certain that he wants to kill her (someone gets this poor girl some anxiety relief oh my goodness).
"She's such a poser, she doesn't even try defend her sorry self! Why did Joe even hire her?!"
Jerry Stokes:
"He's nice, I think. He could just be pretending though."
• The only member she honestly can hold a conversation with for longer than 20 seconds that isn't an argument.
• Even still she's kinda scared of him since he hangs out with the dudes who haunt her workplace.
• Tried to bond with him over the Legend of Zelda games since she's played them for a while but immediately gave up before she even said hello.
"She's a kind person but she's got some serious paranoia issues big time, Buck."
Pete DiNunzio
"I get nauseous when I'm near him, not too sure what that's about.."
• She doesn't really know Pete that much, at least not as much as the others so she doesn't really have much to be scared of with him other than her regular social anxiety.
• I think he'd try get her to watch doll horror movies but I doubt she'd click with them because the majority end with the doll getting destroyed and she's not about that life lmao.
• Overall she's pretty neutral about the guy but I doubt she'd actively try hang out with him solo.
"Eh, she's fine. Needs to take a chill pill though.."
Josh Levy
"He seems okay, I would hate to risk getting on his bad side though."
(can you guys see why she doesn't have many friends now? 😭 Poor girl thinks everyone is out to get her.)
• Gwen is pretty frail so seeing a guy who is so much taller than her get so angry is pretty harrowing.
• I feel like she knows he wouldn't actually harm her but she can just never be too sure...
• I like to think that if she's told to let people know what new merchandise they have, she'd tell him so he could tell the others. She's not about to be bombarded by a crowd of geeks (valid).
"Gwen's nice, but what the hell does she know about geek shit?"
(btw Gwen never talks about any of her interests other than dolls so she seems pretty normie-ish)
Alex Lambert
Bill Dickey:
"He's easy to pester and I find that hilarious. Would 100% chase him down with my pet bugs."
• Alex finds Bill so amusing. He's like a cool insect to them, she just wants to shake him around in a jar and see what he does.
• "Social norms? Who's she never heard of her?" He totally gets all up in this man's business, talking to him about his random thoughts. (Think of the "The Egyptians believed the most significant thing you could do in your life was die" tiktok sound).
• They definitely aren't allowed to hang out with the club without Joan present like they're some kind of misbehaving dog that needs constant supervision.
"He's a total freak! Can't get the damn queer to leave me alone"
Jerry Stokes:
"Oh the green one? He's funny, he makes weird sounds... Bee-dee bee-dee.."
(I feel like Alex would repeat people all the time, especially if they have a catchphrase or vocal stim, it's now theirs too).
• Alex really likes hanging out with Jerry. I feel like they'd do fantasy roleplays together because Alex is a natural at putting on characters, they're almost always a jester character and you can't tell me otherwise.
• DND campaigns with Alex are either the most ridiculous thing you've ever experienced or the best emotional rollercoaster you'll ever be on, there's no middle ground.
• Probably feels more comfortable being herself around Jerry, they don't try hide their personality but sometimes he gets worried he's gonna lose friends over how he is.
"Alex is pretty cool if you actually try understand him. They're a great roleplayer too."
Pete DiNunzio:
"We share a love for the dead, I have a feeling that we like it in different ways though.."
• Alex enjoys having someone who can actually understand his interest in the macabre even if they're at different parts of the spectrum of enjoyment.
• I think they'd share horror movies with eachother, Alex definitely watches those really obscure ones that only had like 15 physical copies and you had to follow a treasure map to find one or something.
• I don't think it'd take that long of a conversation to find middle ground in their interests to talk about, cryptids, horror creatures etc.
"Alex is a fellow horror enjoyer so he's cool enough in my book, his movies are lacking in hot chics though."
Josh Levy:
"He's kinda like Bill but also not at all. Not as fun to annoy for me personally but Joan and Gwen seems to like him so I'll leave him be."
• Alex is very passive towards Josh, y'know other than their regular obscurity. I doubt they'd interact much unless Joan or Gwen was around.
• He thinks some of his sci-fi movies are cool, especially the X-files (yes again) mostly because of all the cryptid-esque themes since Alex is gaga for the unknown.
• Other than that Josh is an overall okay guy in Alex's book, nothing special but she doesn't dislike the guy.
"He's super weird but I guess I can tolerate him."

Cobra Kai s6 pt 2 spoilers
Idk, idc, but I loved that ending
Everyone got their happy ending except for like Kreese and silver
The scene with Kreese and Johnny hugging and crying was everything to me.
KREESE TOOK OUT TERRY WITH HIM? Terry definitely deserved it, but I was sad to see Kreese go
I love the parallel between Daniel and Johnny from like the first movie by them saying you’re alright. It was so adorable
I love the scene Daniel told Terry that cobra Kai never dies because I’m sure he would’ve never imagined saying that let alone wearing the gi. Terry’s face dropped so quick.
I’m so glad that Axel decided to leave like I feel so bad for him. He was like a really big puppy like a golden retriever so cute.
It was so freaking cute when Miguel was like I have to be Axel for Robby. Like when they first met, they were enemies and they came out as brothers and that’s so admirable to me.
I love that name their daughter after Johnny’s mom it was so cute
I like the Bobby Brown appearance
I love the scene in the bar, where everyone is cheering on Johnny and then they just hug
Although I’m sad that they never really addressed what Zara did to Robbie, I’m glad Tory got to beat her down for it.
I love the binary Bros just geeking out with each other and being so happy and cute
I’m really sad that there wasn’t much Kenny in the last couple of episodes
I wish there was more of hawk just of him or should I say Eli?
I love that Daniel and Johnny ended up coaching, their respective dojo Johnny’s being slightly more different by being neutral
I love Carmen and her mom. I don’t know, they were just so iconic.
Amanda was also iconic, especially when she was wearing the gi and cheering them on
I had no idea how to feel about the Miyagi ai thing because he also passed in real life and I was just like oh
Tori and Robby were everything to me this season. I love the fact that he jumped on his crutches to tell her that he loved her.
hated Sensei Wolf, but he is so fine

Call for Submissions: The Self-Love Tournament 🎉👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩
Be it alternate universes or freak transporter accidents, a witch's curse or timeline shenanigans, one thing that's fascinated scifi and geek fan culture for ages, especially on this hellsite, has been the prospect of meeting yourself.
And also.
What if you then did the dirty.
To honor this glorious tradition, I'm assembling a tournament that pairs the sexiest of tumblrmen with themselves, and then pits them against each other. We'll determine, once and for all, the selfcest champion.
Automatically included are some of the greats (and my personal favorites). Feel free to include them in submissions so I can curate lists of aliases/start collecting propaganda
The Onceler (from The Lorax movie)
Loki (from Marvel/the Loki tv show)
Ice King (from Adventure Time/Fionna and Cake)
Kira Nerys (from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
Dave Strider (from Homestuck)
The Doctor (from Doctor Who)
Sans (from Undertale)
England (from Hetalia)
Submissions
I'll try to prioritize characters with more submissions or more impassioned propaganda, so keep that in mind when submitting
+ Ground Rules:
I reserve the right to exclude any characters or fandoms from the bracket (to be fair, the most hated usually get voted off quickly anyway). For example, I decided to exclude a MCYT character, as their player is not comfortable with certain fandom behavior, and there's significant overlap between the character and creator. I'm not here to shame you, but I don't want to amplify something that sexually objectifies a real person beyond their stated boundaries.
Feel free to vote on whatever criteria you see fit! I try to prioritize iconic ✨ examples, ones that have had large impacts on Tumblr history, and any personal blorbos 💖
(NEW 9/20) I did say whatever criteria, but I do feel like I should address hate-voting. I'm not going to forbid it, but I ask that you consider if you really do hate the character/fandom that much. For example, Oncelercest isn't my cup of tea by any means, but man.... you gotta hand it to him.....
I love passionate (and even sometimes violent) propaganda, but do NOT bully anyone or send targeted threats. If it's getting nasty out there, I might use my judgement to adjust this rule, but I hope I won't have to.
Please feel free to spread this submission list! Tagging some of my inspirations: @ao3topshipsbracket @who-do-i-know-this-man @stop-spreading-this-poll @masked-character-competition @bestadaptationtournament @ultimate-anime-tournament @unlikely-adversaries-bracket @top-fictional-unhinged-women @mosthomoeroticenemies @bestfictionaldivorce @controversial-blorbo-bracket @tournament-winners-tournament @the-most-character-i-ever-saw :)
From my end, I really appreciated how @controversial-blorbo-bracket ran their tournament, so I'll try to follow their lead: be open and transparent, give people who are writing propaganda the benefit of the doubt where possible, and try to take passionate takes in stride.
(NEW 9/24) Constructive crit or feedback in good faith is appreciated! I want to make this a space for celebration of fandom

Fuck it I’m posting my music yap session EARLY mueheheh
THIS SHIT IS LONG IF YOU READ ALL OF THIS WHY AND HOW THE FUCK
yap session 😼 was gonna write more but nahhh that would be toooo much
Ok first artist/ band: Lemon Demon/Neil Cicierega. Words and actions cannot express how much I love this mans music. I will only talk about my favorite songs from a few of his albums.
First song, Soft Fuzzy Man from the Spirit Phone album. This song has been my top song for 3 years. I never get tired of it. I can somewhat relate to it in a way, which is hard to explain. The somewhat desperation to be noticed and love by someone while being different from other people (how I personally view it). Its honestly one of the best songs in the album.
Second song, Action Movie Hero Boy from the Dinosaurchestra album. Although not being one of the most iconic songs in the album like Fine, The Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny, or Dinosaurchestra parts 1-3 it is still my favorite in that album. It kinda catches that somewhat childhood like feeling of wanting to be the hero in a movie for me and its a sorta silly song that has a good tune.
Third song, Really Cool Wig from the Nature Tapes album. God I feel like all of the songs in that album are either a fever dream or just weird but a banger (Two Trucks for example). Neil has probably made history with his weird songs. I personally like Really Cool Wig because its just a honestly really good song, funny lyrics, and a catchy beat.
Fourth song, Satirists Love Song from the View Monster album. I honestly don’t know how to explain this song and why I like it. I just always lived how it seemed slightly different from the other songs in View Monster.
Fifth song, Ode To Crayola which is a single i’m pretty sure. This song is just good. All Neil does is talk about his love for crayons and thats amazing.
Sixth song, my all time favorite, Geeks in Love (which I think is in Damn Skippy but is a single on Spotify?? Don’t remember). This song was what really got me into Lemon Demon when I started listening. Although I have been exposed to his music before I wasn’t really interested until a few years ago and I heard this absolute masterpiece. Its honestly such a relatable song. And its exactly what the songs title is, geeks in love. An absolutely great song, listen to it if you want.
(Fun fact I have 82 lemon demon songs in my playlist and listen to all of them every day. I also have the spirit phone vinyl:3)
NEXT BAND!
Good Kid
I am excited to talk about this band. I got to see them live with another band I like. Most of their music is nice, upbeat, and good listens. You’ve probably heard their cover of ‘From The Start’ which I love. All of their songs are honestly good. I have a album on a vinyl and cd and absolutely love it. Definitely recommend you listen to Mimi’s Delivery Service. This is probably one of their best songs next to Summer and Bubbly. I probably have about 170 dollars worth of merch from Good Kid… might show it some time
NEXT ARTIST/BAND
Hot Freaks
My oh my have this band had me in a chokehold this year. I absolutely love their music, most of their songs are very catchy and have a few unique styles. My favorite song, Boyfriend from their Hot Freaks Forever album gives me Spamvil vibes… idk why. I could say more but I’ve been yapping too much and trying to hurry this up. You probably have heard them before since they have a few really popular songs (I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Puppy Princess, and a few others).
NEXT ARTIST/BAND
WillyRodriguezWasTaken
underrated band? Artist? I forgot. Got into listening to them last year and like their music a lot. Might mot be your type since most of their music has a distorted ish filter over it that might annoy some but some might like. If interested I recommend listening to their song Vampira first, probably their best sounding song. My favorite songs from them is either City Pop Lullaby or Power Walker
NEXT BAND
Glass Beach
Started listening to this band a few years ago. I quickly got into their music, it just was slightly relatable music and had nice sound. My favorite song, Cold weather from their first album I think really stuck with me. It honestly felt very relatable for me when I was in a tough situation for a long time. Honestly give the song a listen its genuinely so good. Their other song that I like, Jhariah Dies And Goes To Hell, which features Jhariah unsurprisingly. It’s honestly an amazing sounding song with amazing switch ups in tempo, feel, and sound throughout the song.
NEXT BAND
Phoneboy
Words cannot describe how happy I was when I heard about this band opening for GoodKid on their concert. Their music is mainly about love, breakup or a fee others things. If curious about this band you should probably listen to their song, Hey, Kid! From their first album. It’s how I started listening to them and it’s a great song to just overall listen to. Most of their songs have an upbeat tempo besides for a few when there is a tempo change. When I got to see them in concert I got an autographed vinyl and balled my eyes out and I got tossed a pair of heart shaped glasses after the concert.
I think I’m gonna wrap this up ngl this is a huge ass yap session

The Mosley Review: Inside Out 2
Tumblr media
I don't really say this too often and especially nowadays. We are witnessing something truly special. I was born in 1987 and as a true 90's child, I had the privilege of growing up with family films that both in animation and live action, were fearless in their depiction of the trials we go through growing up. The discovery of how ones body is changing and all the emotional turmoil that comes with. Finding the confidence in your decisions or having pure fear of not fitting in and trying to be cool enough to be noticed and respected. Honestly, that's all just middle school and the first year of high school. Films and shows like The Neverending Story and Freaks and Geeks are just an example of the vast amount of growth one can go through. Those type of films went away after while and now they are slowly starting to come back and Pixar has been the spearhead for those stories in animation. The first film in this now franchise was a burst of brilliance and cut deep into the core of us all that went through the search for balance between joy and sadness and all that came with it. This film continues that with the next stage in growth and the film nails how the new emotions that come with puberty can control you if unchecked. There are so many layers in this film that I don't want to spoil, but I related to every bit of the expertly placed teen and adult humor. Every bit of this film was wonderful and a welcomed natural step forward.
Tumblr media
Kensington Tallman was excellent as Riley and she nailed the pure joy and emotional weight that comes when entering your teens. She was funny, smart and vulnerable in the best way as her story progressed. Amy Poehler returns as Joy and she was just as wonderful and even more complex than before. Joy actually has an even harder challenge to her constantly positive nature and its wonderfully addressed. I've always loved her creativity and problem solving skills, but here she almost becomes part of the conflict in a excellent way. Phyllis Smith was awesome and fun once again as Sadness. The bond between her and Joy is stronger and I loved that she was more game to try and help. Liza Lapira was fantastic as Disgust and liked that she wasn't as dismissive of everything this time. Tony Hale was really fun as Fear and he was shockingly more creative and pragmatic this time around. He was almost the saving grace in many situations. Lewis Black returns as Anger and he was as intense and the major scene stealer you'd expect. He gets to have another iconic moment mid way through the film and I couldn't stop laughing. All the core emotions are fantastic and I loved how they had to navigate dealing with the new emotions that Riley has developed.
Tumblr media
Maya Hawke takes the lead as Anxiety and the level of stress she delivers to each decision she makes for Riley was expertly delivered and relatable. The message behind her character was loud, clear and a great lesson on letting yourself relax and not let anxiety control you. The rivalry between her and Joy was so heartbreaking and exciting to witness as they both have a similar goal and yet you see the destructive nature of both if not regulated. Ayo Edebiri was great as Envy and she had an equal amount of standout moments when dealing with Riley wanting to be excepted by her new friends. Adèle Exarchopoulos was fun as the bored French Gen Z inspired Ennui. She cracked me up once she was on screen and how connected to her phone she was. Paul Walter Hauser was excellent as Embarrassment and I liked that he became the MVP of the new group. The moments of shyness and awkward interactions were worth it for the equal moments of heartfelt defiance of expectation. There were other characters that weren't emotions, but they still represented the likes of Riley and fill the gap that a certain character left from the previous film. Ron Funches as Bloofy was a great addition as a cross between Blue's Clues and Dora the Explorer. He had the perfect amount of hilarious 4th wall breaking. James Austin Johnson was hilarious as his companion, Pouchy. He was a great help to the original core emotions and I loved his scene the most with Anger. Now the one that nearly stole the film was Yong Yea as Lance Slashblade. He was perfect as the Final Fantasy / Soul Caliber inspired character that was so heroic and yet tragic. The animation on him was spot on and I loved every second he was on screen.
Tumblr media
The score by composer Andrea Datzman was excellent and I loved how she made the film feel more epic this time around with more emphasis on edgier tones with guitar riffs and big bombastic percussion. She nails the quieter moments and the most intense anxiety driven moment of the film that we can all relate to. The use of Michael Giacchino's original theme was beautifully woven in at the right moments and didn't overtake Andrea's work. Visually, this film is up there with Pixar's best looking films like Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. I have truly been missing the magic of Pixar's storytelling for quite some time and this film brought it all back. Toy Story was my generations perfect coming of age story and now, Inside Out will be that same experience for this generation and I can't wait to see where Riley goes next. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

So begins the My So-Called Life rewatch after maybe twenty years, a surreal experience as a parent with this angled gaze on what felt so all-encompassing as a teen, having to ride the tension of those two perspectives.
This might wreck me.
First observation: since MSCL preceded Freaks and Geeks by several years and had its cult status properly venerated, it's fun to see just how much of Freaks was an over-the-shoulder test copy of their playbook: Neil's dad, the freak's band, the unstable girl bff, the goody-two-shoes transitioning childhood friendship - granted the genre has its tropes to steal from, but this feels deeper.
The MSCL representation of the 90s is so visceral, whereas Freaks (despite being filmed in the 90s) has this veneer of being an homage, MSCL stews in the juices. I remember watching it on television and recognizing the novelty of it, how it mirrored the world as it was (to the extent that anything in 1994 could, versimiltudes are different beasts then and now). The gimmick was how the characters talked with so many 'likes' and 'whatevers' and while you could still sense the packaging of a primetime drama, the music cues, the editing, the traditional beats, it's more the stuff Winnie & company couldn't refine away, the gestalt of 1994, it's just there, uncool and aloof, in the iconic shadow-laden lighting, the wardrobe, the props - Euphoria wholesale steals it, and why not, steal from the best. MSCL created the aesthetic, the vibe, even though there were glimmers of it preceding, the boundary pushing grit of NYPD Blue bringing bare asses and the word 'fuck' into people's living rooms, MSCL feels like the real ground zero, what Sam Levinson in Malcolm & Marie called authen-fuckin-ticity.
Watching with my son who has just started high school and so many times he has blurted out 'oh my god that's me,' so kudos to Winnie, she really did capture some essential quality of being fifteen that transcends generations.
I am only two episodes in, maybe these impressions will change, but for now this is a welcome return to simpler times.

Do all of the hockey houses fit 5? Do you think Kienan-Luca-Gavin-Seamus-(one of) Tyler Duke/TJ Hughes live together?
the two iconic houses appear to fit four. the working theory is that kienan is the fourth with phil/holtzy/truss, luca/gavin/johnny (rip?) are together in the other one (fourth bedroom still unknown). duke jr. moved in with eddy/dylan/mark and there’s room for at least one more at that house, so it could be seamus or tj. or it could be a total curveball like rutger moving in with the freaks and geeks.
