I FINISHED IT :D :D :D
Tumblr media
Yessssss I finally got my fCC JavaScript developer certification :')
Of course they decided to go ahead and release a whole new curriculum a few days before I wrapped this up, thus making this previous version now somewhat obsolete (great timing, folks), but I don't really mind – I was only doing it to learn the skills in any case.
In my final project I got to work with APIs again, which I hadn't done in ages and always enjoy, and I got some practice with asynchronous programming.
I'm so glad to have this DONE and finally be able to move on! Now the only question is, should I keep working my way through the old certifications or try out the new full-stack curriculum? I think I'll probably stick with the old individual certifications for now, because it looks like the new curriculum would take me back over HTML, CSS, and JS for the umpteenth time, and I am sick to death of them and would really prefer to move on to backend ASAP.

(New) Foundational C# on FreeCodeCamp!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FreeCodeCamp recently release a brand new course where you learn the fundamentals of C#, working alongside with Microsoft Learn!
I had a go because I use C# at work anyways so wanted test what it teaches! This is what I gathered on how to do the course:
Complete the course on Microsoft Learn (FreeCodeCamp will link you to the various places in each lesson)
Come back to FreeCodeCamp to answer the questions to complete the lesson, then eventually complete the mini modules it has
After completing ALL of the necessary lessons on Microsoft Learn, then you will get a Trophy badge-thingy and it has a link attached to it - get that link
Run back to FreeCodeCamp for them to verify that you've done it all
Once done, you will get a certificate in which you can add anywhere!
I'm only explaining this because I was super confused about the instructions at first! (´・ω・`)
I believe you don't get a certificate from Microsoft Learn so by doing the course via FreeCodeCamp you can get one as proof of learning it!
I will definitely be doing it, I love my name on certificates~! Hope this helps someone else too! Happy coding!

I hate how when you're learning something and you're starting to get confident in it, you're like, "I can do this!" and then you actually try doing it and it's big and hard and scary

i think im gonna get back into freecodecamp! i havent relly had a lot of time to work on it recently because of school and stuff, but I'll try harder to make time haha.
that being said I don't think a step by step breakdown of each session i do is the most engaging thing to post. codeblr- do you guys have any thoughts about what you would want to read? just general observations about cs? keep with the freecodecamp stuff? other? please let me know.

Day 8 (10-16-23)
I really enjoyed coding today! I did a lot of little bits of coding for different things. My primary focus was the Tribute Page. I had forgotten that one of the requirements for the page is a link. Since the page is paying tribute to fictional character that I made, I decided to make a second page to link to. I spent some time yesterday coming up with ideas for a story that I will theme all of my freeCodeCamp certification projects around as I learn. I will also include additional personal projects to fill out my story as needed (like the secondary page I mentioned).
The purpose of this approach is to get me invested in learning to code. It's extremely difficult for me to be consistent, especially with self-managed learning. Learning is fun but it can be frustrating. Storytelling is also fun. So are secrets. I'm hoping that by slowly developing and revealing a secret story bit by bit in my projects, I can get myself invested in them enough to offset that frustration and keep myself coming back. As a bonus, having a central theme eliminates the problem of figuring out a theme or premise for each project individually, which is something I have struggled with in the past.
As an aside, I have thankfully improved my sleep schedule! I will keep working on that too.

I'm reviewing the stuff I've learned in freecodecamp.com so far before I move on and I finally tried gradients myself on my practice site and I really like this.
I think it matches the Aknosom pretty well too. :)

Learning C# w/ FreeCodeCamp + Microsoft | #1
Tumblr media
Saturday 2nd September 2023
As being part of my to do list, I am studying towards the C# Fundamentals course on FreeCodeCamp! I made a post about it here! I am learning about just simple variables and maths operators and making a student grading project! Something I have done already during my studies but still a good refresher moment!

Free code camp is great, if this is something anyone is interested in - you can even get certifications if you get good enough at certain skills or coding languages
please learn how to code
like, if you're bored today, and not doing anything,
learn a little bit of coding please

day 1
Not entirely sure why I'm calling this day 1, considering the fact that is by no means my first day of coding, but it's my first day of updating the blog about what I'm upto re: compsci, so I guess I'll take it.
Unsure whether I mentioned this in my intro post or not, but I'm currently making my way through FreeCodeCamp's courses. I'm still on the first one ("Responsive Web Design"), which is basically just HTML and CSS for beginners. I've done three of their practice-project things for that course so far, and today I did steps 1-11 of "Learn HTML Forms by Building a Registration Form," which is exactly what it sounds like. I'm trying to do at least 10 steps a day so I can stay consistent, and I'm really excited about this project, because after this I can do my first certification project.
I think the level of scaffolding that the Registration Form project provides is significantly less than previous projects, but I think that's good because it's allowed me to develop confidence in the knowledge that I've acquired throughout the past few weeks.
...and. That'll be all for today, Love y'all.

Day 4 (10-11-23)
Today I wasn't sure I wanted to code. More accurately, I had a great idea for a dinner I could make with pantry stuff and frozen leftovers and wanted to do that instead. I decided I would code for 10 or 15 minutes, then make dinner. It has been about an hour.
I started back on the accessibility lesson, and so much of what I was learning seemed applicable to the color palette page I started on yesterday. I started writing down more and more properties and tags to remember, until eventually I just had to make some adjustments to the page.
It took a little time, but overall I feel that the structure of the page makes much more sense and I am happy with that. I will finish the accessibility lesson later but I won't force myself to focus in a purely linear fashion. I think allowing myself to fixate on my side project will help me feel enthusiastic about coding in general. I figure if I can feel the same way about coding as I feel about Stardew Valley, cooking, and paleontology, then I'll end up absorbing every bit of information I can find and actually retain it. Working with my brain instead of against it seems like a good idea.
The pantry-freezer dinner, if anyone was wondering, will be carnitas taquitos with a creamy dipping sauce, mexican rice cooked in bone broth made from scraps, and iced tea :)
