A movie I would like to recommend to everybody who sees this post: Front of the Class

Synopsis: "Based on the true story of Brad Cohen, who, after being challenged by Tourette's syndrome from a very young age, defies all odds to become a gifted teacher."

It is a very good movie, and it even made me a little teary-eyed.

Another student's father pulls her out of Brad's class as he fears Brad will distract her. He helps a child with ADHD, Thomas, with reading and makes an impression on Heather, a girl with terminal cancer. On his first day, Brad explains his TS to the children. He finally gets an interview where the staff is accepting and they give him the job. He is turned down after 24 interviews because of his TS. From that moment on, Brad has a dream that he will carry on: to become a teacher, just like the principal.Īs an adult, Brad lives with his house mate Ron in Georgia, and is looking for work as an elementary school teacher. For the first time, someone outside his family has given him support and proactively helped him into being accepted by others. As Brad makes his way back to his seat, the school applauds him. At the end of the concert, which Brad's Tourette's tics had disturbed, he calls Brad up to the stage and asks Brad to talk about his TS. The principal invites him to the school concert later in the afternoon. From then on, Brad aspires to never be like the other members of the support group and to become successful.Īt the beginning of middle school, Brad is sent to the principal's office for being disruptive. Brad and his mother attend a support group for the first and last time. She shows this to the psychiatrist, who agrees with the diagnosis, and says that there is no cure. Ellen takes her search to the library and comes across Tourette syndrome (TS) in a medical book. A psychiatrist believes that Brad's tics are the result of his parents' divorce. Determined to find out what is wrong with her son, Ellen seeks medical help. In one class, his teacher calls him to the front to make him apologize to his class for disrupting the class and promise he won't do it again. He constantly gets into trouble with his father Norman and his teachers at school due to his tics. Twelve-year-old Brad lives in Missouri with his divorcée mother, Ellen, and younger brother, Jeff. With the support from his mother and school principal, Brad is a success story, becoming a motivational speaker and an award-winning teacher. Brad Cohen's story starts when he is a young boy and his mother helps doctors to realize that he has Tourette syndrome.

the world is so beautiful..... one time after it rained i scooped a snail off the road and deposited it on a plant. a woman came by and saw me staring at the plants intently and asked "oh, did you save a snail?" and i went "yes! :D" and then we both just stood there silently watching a snail climb up a leaf for a good few minutes. <3

he’ll take the next exit, looking at the mirrors to see if you’re right behind him, before turning on his hazard lights and stopping at a safe area. you follow suit, head tilted in confusion as you watch simon dismount and walk towards you.

you flip your visor up. “what’s wrong?”

“nothing,” he says, taking his helmet off. “jus’ makin’ sure y’r alright.”

this makes your stomach clench, your cheeks filling up with warmth.

“yeah,” you reply, clearing your throat. “you?”

“i’m fine.” he knocks his knuckles on your fuel tank. “y’did good keepin’ calm.”

you giggle, your adrenaline now spiked with giddiness—it seems like no matter how long you two have been together, simon still manages to make your breath run ragged; your heart beating within your ribs as heat envelops you whole. it’s unsaid, his love for you, but it burns, bright and protective.

“thanks.” you rub at your neck, lips still tugged up in a full smile. “knew someone’s got my back, so.”

“i always will,” simon huffs, serious, before ducking his head down in his shyness. you catch the flush rising to his ears, anyway, and you bite at your bottom lip to keep down the giddy giggles.
