daily gentle reminder that the words we use to describe ourselves are labels. they're not immutable states of being, they're not all-encompassing, they're not permanent, they're not universal; labels are just words that we use to indicate something about our experience that we find important enough to communicate to others. if your experience with attraction is significantly different enough from a typical allo experience then aspec labels are there for you to use as long as you want them; and conversely, what aspec labels communicate is just that someone's experience is aligned enough with what we describe as aromanticism/asexuality to warrant telling people about it. you never need a label, you never need to keep a label, you never need to justify a label, and you never need to use a label for anything besides what you want it for. it's not a contract. it's an adjective that you can choose to use or not to use. all it needs to do is be useful for you. 💚🖤

queer label discourse sucks and should stop and i dont mean this in the "stop making up nonsense labels" sense, but in the opposite "stop fucking judging people for their labels you just dont understand or have a weird level of hate for" way. just to be clear, so my post isnt misunderstood to support the opposite message.
i am in the camp that every good-faith queer label is entirely valid and anyone who thinks differently is straight up wrong and should shut the fuck up. youre not defending "the real queers", youre literally putting down another group of queer people. youre not uniting, youre separating.
gatekeepers are wrong and all cops are bastards; even identity cops

reminder to everyone that trauma IS a valid reason to use aspec labels. "i don't know if i'm aspec or just traumatized—" protip!!! you can be both!!!! the thing about labels is that they're not immutable states of being that you're born as. they're literally just words that we use to describe our lived experiences, and if asexual or aromantic or any related label feel relevant to the way that you experience attraction, whether it's a result of trauma or not, they're there for you to use. having trauma as a cause does not invalidate the fact that someone is experiencing lesser or no attraction. that's still the aspec experience babey. use the label if you want it's there for you <3

its also sososo important that you support trans people as a Whole - not just pretty trans people, not just Good trans people, not just trans people you agree with Already. Being trans is not an invitation for someone's humanity or personhood to become conditional!
I don't care if you think they're ugly or annoying or cringe, if they like a show you think is bad or have weird kinks or horny post on main. I don't care if they aren't a Model Citizen, or if their gender or sexuality or their labels don't Make Sense to you - Trans people are allowed to be human and are allowed to be flawed without having their right to exist questioned or their ability to exist in public spaces revoked.
This isn't negotiable. Support the unpalatable queers in your life or find yourself on the receiving end of that same respectability based bullshit next.

lots of um. opinions on tumblrs statement abt the incorrect community labeling of trans womens' posts but this is by far one of the most baffling. about a quarter of the infamous 'sjw site' is lgbt. about a quarter of the site where i literally never run into cishet people outside of actual bigots is lgbt. about a quarter of the site that staff proudly called 'THE QUEEREST PLACE ON THE INTERNET!!!' is lgbt. marine biologists make groundbreaking discovery that about a quarter of the ocean is made of water
