2012 Leonardo headcanon

i would imagine that bro after s4 (i dont count most of the stuff from s5 to be canon, or i just treat them as alt universes, you do you, say your opinion in the coments) being the now "sensei" of the team would be ten times stricter with training, or whatever honestly lol-

I think rhyming poetry can often feel old fashioned -- yet this is anything but. I love how even when the rhymes disappear from the ends of each line, you can still find rhymes and almost-rhymes (slant rhymes!) buried throughout the stanza: parks/dark, closet/faucet. And it helps keep up the relentless, self-assured rhythm of the whole poem, rushing ahead and building.

2018!

Raph: trans fem baddie OR bi-gender and typically fem presenting

Demi romantic and Demi sexual and pan, she doesn’t use labels tho, just says she’ll do what feels right, doesn’t look for any relationships until one person comes along they’re besties the one day BAM Raph realizes she’s so in love

Donnie: that’s a straight man. I know lots of people head cannon him as enby and aroace but I only really see the ace part, normal about romance can talk to people but doesn’t really like to

Leo: transmasc but on accident, splinter couldn’t tell and just called them all boys from childhood and Leo didn’t know it was weird until like puberty and then he made Donnie do all of the research with/for him

That is a gay man, he is the GAYEST mf you’ve ever met, also zero riz, seems super outgoing but put him in for t of a cute boy and all thoughts are gone

Mikey: gender-fluid(like me) and pansexual can somehow pull literally anyone they want, somehow the most charismatic and dense person ever

Splinter: raging bisexual, cis man but super supportive of all his kids

Leo: transfem lesbian, no question, terrified splinter would be mad and he ends up being the most supporting dad ever

Raph: bisexual icon, also zero riz but still pulls like no other

Donnie: he/they and straight, he’ll switch between he/him and they/them but they don’t usually mind either one, they are however Demi and will crush on one girl at a time for ever on end

Mikey: he’s pansexual, Will flirt with anything that moves but is super sweet about it, drinks his respect women juice, flirt not sleeze, cis man tho, but will tell people he’s trans if they say something negative however, he feels like the type to do so

Splinter: yaknow 2012 splinter actually gives me enby vibes, he/they for sure, he was a human then a rat with turtle children, being slightly more than just boy is not outrageous to them, demisexual/romantic and straight, really loved Tang Shan and never really looked after her death

Also I understand that 2012 has slim pickings for character ships, but please, please, I beg of you please don’t reblog as tcest or leorai, I have standards, HOWEVER if you have other ships feel free to mention them or your own head cannons, especially other iterations

Ok, that’s what I got, mostly written on vibes but these are the only two iterations I’ve watched fully and could get a good read on the characters

Which of your TMayNT pieces were your favorites to do?

Do you have any favorite TMayNT posts you've seen from others?

As far as my own stuff goes -- I always have a good time with traditional art, so Day 16 and Day 21 were a lot of fun! And I also like making simple little animations, so I enjoyed doing Day 24 as well!

As far as others' art... I'm so awful at picking favorites, so I hope you don't mind that I'm just gonna have to list a whole bunch again! I'll put that under a cut, because it's gonna be lengthy. (And I don't really know if people like being tagged when I mention their stuff, or if they find it annoying... so, um... sorry if it's the latter!)

As an appreciator of traditional art, I really liked seeing @strawberry-ren's drawings -- especially Leo and April! They're beautiful drawings, and are colored so incredibly well!

@kesoyotes has a really pretty artstyle! It's very vibrant and clean, if that makes sense. I particularly liked April and Donnie!

@artsybun's art was all so good! I really liked this Leo drawing, this one of the turtle tots, and this one of 2012 Splinter... and THIS MASTERPIECE, of course!! I love that particular drawing so so so much!

@annaliearts also had some incredible pieces! I especially loved this '03 Donnie, and this one of '03 Splinter with the baby turtles. I mean, just look at Splinter's face!! And those precious babies!

And speaking of baby turtles -- there were SO MANY good turtle tot drawings for day 4! I loved this one by @cacutus, with the baby turtles sleeping all over their Dad! And this one by @sky317, because just look at Mikey's little face! And Raph in the teapot! I loved this one by @sad-leon, because I adore the way they draw their little expressions so much! And idk how to explain it, but like... their positioning, I guess? The way Leo's leg is just plopped down over Donnie like that -- it's the cutest thing! And I really liked this one by @sariphantom -- look at the babies' faces!! Leo sticking his tongue out, and tiny Donnie being so angry! I also really liked this one by @vdragon-creations (which was for day 11, but it does also include baby turtles)! The way '03 Splinter is looking at the babies -- ohh, my heart!! He loves them so much!!

There were so many good Aprils as well! I adore the way April is holding Mayhem in this one by @temva, and the coloring in this one by @just-another-tired-gay-artist is so cool! And I love both the perspective and background in this one by @matryoshkalex.

I love @frosteaart's coloring style so much! The lighting is beautiful, and it makes each scene so... is aesthetic the right word? Like, I want to flip through a whole art book full of it! I particularly liked the drill, Karai, and this Insane in the Mama Train redraw.

I also loved a lot of @heck-theo's art! If I had to make a short list, I'd say this one of Mikey with Draxum, and this one of Mikey with Splinter, because I just love the way he's hugging/holding his dads! And then this one of April, and this Evil League of Mutants scene, because they're both exceptional art pieces!

I also love anything that makes me laugh, so this tech-bo drawing by @hoodiehorizon, and this one by @cookieturtle26 are on that list! They make me smile!

I really enjoyed seeing all of the collages by @boxfullaturtles, especially Splinter, Shelldon, and Leatherhead!

I also loved the coloring on this Leo by @kurashikimisaki, the style of these Leos by @neon-mega-turtle, and this little Beebop & Rocksteady GIF by @jadetheblueartist... and probably a whole lot more that I just can't remember right now because there is just SO MUCH good art!!

With the new TMNT movie coming out soon, me and my brother have been binge watching the 2012 TMNT series!!! It's his first watch through, and its been so nostalgic for me. And as always, I'm addicted to my character designs so I thought I'd share

NOTES:

Age 15: They all get the same uniform the first time they go to the surface, I can imagine Splinter handing the uniform down as a heirloom, or he created it just for them :) they are so young, don't know what they are getting into or who they are yet, just babies. I tried to keep it as turtle inspired as possible

Age 16: They are getting a little older, finding themselves more. They would be getting more into human culture, watching human TV and getting April to get clothes for them so for the first time they can express themselves through their clothes. They keep elements of the uniform throughout the changes, but their clothes grow and evolve with them. Also, Mikey repping the gay and MLM colors :)

Age 17: Around the battle for New York, they had to leave just in the clothes they had, and don't get update clothes until they do the spiritual journey into the forest. They have seen and experienced harder things that have caused them to grow up faster, and have experienced life threatening injuries, and in Leo's case, his leg that for the rest of his outfits will be extra armored.

Age 18: They are more confident in themselves, their fighting style, and while not having a lot of down time, they value it immensely. This is the most free their outfits have been, the most them, without an excessive need to look a certain way. To look tough, to be armored, to be practical. It really is the outfits of where the highest of their skills meet the least unburdened they will be, shortly after this they will dress to send a message or project a certain image, will have seen their father die to shredder, and the world destroyed. Also She/Him Leo and Ace Donnie :)

Age 19: While understanding more who they are, the brothers now have certain ways they are trying to present themselves and the way these burdens have made them try to protect themselves. These outfits are based off of the Shredder Killer outfits. Leo is trying to present as armored, with unbreakable defenses, like a hero or a knight, for his allies to know that she will protect them, and for the enemies to know exactly who she is on the playing field, and hopefully draw attention away from her brothers as the leader. Raph has always presented more punk and tough, but now he shows it more in the jacket he wears, covering more skin, being less confident about where he is going to be hit and if he can take it. The shoulders and hair make him look bigger than he actually is. Donnie goes full practicality mode, adding more spaces for pockets and armor. Mikey also looses some of his colors he wore, in leu of stealth and being safer on the battle field.

Age 20: Set after the show, who knows what happens, but they are now adults and can put some space between what had happened and have time to digest. Leo doesn't un-armor, but she lets her hair grow longer and wears a longer cape, a sign of time passing and growing maturity, as well as taking on the title as the last sensi of the Hamato Clan. Mikey still wears fun clothes, but he has chosen his uniform to be more akin to his childhood uniform splinter gave them, in honor of his memory and their culture (like hes taking his childhood back, not letting the years lost mean his life is over kinda). Donnie only makes a couple adjustments, like covering skin- to show how the events have shaken him and made him feel more vulnerable, but adding more brown into the mix, showing hope and a peace that might be on the horizon. Raph grows into his skin more, loosing the sharp silhouette and having a more rounder one, showing his sharp edges calming down in a time of peace, and letting his hair down as he has time to relax. They all have the Hamato Clan sigil on their clothes :)

Sorry this took me a while to get to, it's been a busy week. But I am LOVING these and thank you to everyone who submitted asks. This is the most asks I've ever received and I have greatly enjoyed this. A Tier: 90's movie Splinter: This is a rat Splinter. He is a good dad and tries his best. This man loves his sons. Also, easily the most frail of all the Splinters, but still manages to toss Shredder off a building.

2003: Another rat Splinter. This man loves his sons and also loves his father, Hamato Yoshi. He is wise, caring, and very invested in in his sons' lives.

2012: A Hamato Yoshi Splinter. I love this Splinter so much. I think he is my favorite thing to come out of 2012. This man is Dad Vibes so much! He loves his kids and he wants them to have the best lives he can provide. I also love that we got this massive more human-sized Splinter. Just love him all around.

B Tier: 80's cartoon Splinter: A Hamato Yoshi Splinter, he has a great design and amazing voice actor. He is calm, he is zen and fatherly. He looses points because he never calls the turtles his sons. They are always "My turtles/pupils/students." The very first time I heard Splinter call the boys his sons was in the 90's movie and it blew my little mind. (Note, I'm not sure if maybe they changed it in the last seasons where they were trying to be more like the live action movies. It's been so long, I don't remember.)

2007 Splinter: I THINK this is a Hamato Yoshi Splinter? This is a hard one for me because everything in the movie is good. I love his design, I love his VA, I love his lines and how he interacts with the turtles. But there was just something OFF about the whole of the 2007 movie and I figured it out by reading the comics that take place before the movie. In which Splinter picks Leonardo ONLY to go on this world tour for vague reasons while the others are stuck at home. Raphael is immediately hurt and angry at the blatant favoritism. Don and Mikey look like they are so used to it, they don't even argue anymore. Leo is so much the golden child in this movie it hurts me in my soul. Splinter is a terrible father, but he was fine on screen if you take the movie at face value.

C Tier: Next Mutation Splinter: I don't recall if it was ever clear if he was a ran or Hamato Yoshi. He knew Venus' dad, so maybe Hamato Yoshi? He gives off these prancy, gay dad vibes which are kind of fun and fresh for a Splinter. (He plays chess out in the park late at night with his blind boyfriend.) He doesn't do too much to parent his extremely dumbass kids. Maybe since they're 18 he's decided they are their own problem now. And while the turtle suits are pretty nice for a TV production, the rat suit is BAAAAD.

Bayverse Splinter: This one makes no sense. Any Splinter that takes out Hamato Yoshi completely really throws off the universe. Why is he so Asian coded when he has no Asian influence in his life aside from finding a book on martial arts? It's weird. Other than that, he's fine in the movies.

Rise Splinter: A Hamato Yoshi Splinter. I like that we got a Splinter where you can really see the depression from being turned into a rat. And you can see how the turtles turned out to be different people: Leo and Raph especially, without Splinter there to be an influence on the group dynamic. But the characterization doesn't make sense. He says he loves his boys, but he doesn't always know their names? I know this was played for laughs, but the characterization wasn't there. Also minus points for the god-awful character design. Again, I know dad-bod Splinter was played for laughs, but...we had to look at it.

Mutant Mayhem Splinter: Again, another Splinter without Hamato Yoshi that makes no sense. However, he is a GOOD dad who loves his sons and does his best to keep his family together. I love this idea that he is a shut in because he is actually scared of the surface. I do have a hard time buying he is a martial arts master from merely watching kung fu movies. And also minus points for the god-awful character design.

So I have a question do you have any headcanons for the turtles from rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Only a few cause I lean more towards the 2012 series so I have tones of headcanons about them, but for Rise, here’s what I got!

Leo and Donnie are cat people while Raph and Mikey are dog people.

Raph sometimes is overwhelmed with his massive spikey body. He often worries he’ll knock something over or crush someone accidentally so he’s always very graceful and takes his time in crowded places.

Leo is gay but is unaware he’s gay. Everyone already knows they’re just waiting for him to figure it out. He won’t until he gets his first real crush, which will be Yuichi (got a whole HC about them you can read HERE)

Donnie and Kendra are secretly dating.

Donnie is the fastest swimmer among his brothers.

Cassandra often fangirls around Splinter and asks him questions about all of his old movies

April’s dad passed away when she was a little girl. Shortly after losing her dad, she met the Turtles.

Splinter and Donnie are the ones who stay up late the longest. For Donnie he’s working on his next big protect in the lab or play video games, for Splinter he’s binge watching his shows and lost track of time. Raph, Leo and Mikey are usually the ones to attempt to drag them to bed (often failing the task)

Out of all the Turtles, Cassandra is the closest with Mikey.

If a girl ever flirted with Raph, he’d be way too oblivious and not pick up the signs, just thinking she’s being extra nice to him cause he’s so lovable. This is basically the beginning of his dynamic with my ver. of Rise Mona Lisa

Mikey always invites Draxum over for family dinners every weekend. At first he come only because Mikey kinda terrified him but over time he came willing and warmed up to his family.

Splinter once considered that one of his sons would one day date April (she was the only female friend they had at the time and thought she’d be the only girl they’d ever know) but after she came out as gay, Splinter dropped the idea and started back at square one.

Yes, Splinter has considered marrying off his sons and has even looked into potential suitors but over time he realized he doesn’t want to force it. He’ll let his sons find love in there own time like he once did years ago.

What are some of your favorite character relationships/dynamics in TMNT, and why? Is there anything that you particularly like seeing explored with them in fan works (art, writing, comics, etc)?

Hmm, that's so hard! There are so many different dynamics I enjoy across multiple iterations, so it's hard to pick just a few.

With rise, I love basically any dynamic involving Leo, but I'll list some of my favorites:

Leo and Donnie- duh, disaster twins! I like when they are depicted as such close siblings who truly understand each other without the need for words. It reminds me of my relationship with my sister and makes me smile. :)

Leo and Raph- this duo doesn't get put together a lot when it's not soul-crushing post-invasion angst, but I really enjoy seeing them work together and protect each other. They're both so brave, and yet, so scared.

Leo and Mikey- I go crazy for fanart of these two together! They're so bright and happy and the art of them together is always gorgeous! I love it when their dynamic allows them to be genuine and vulnerable with each other, that's so special to me!

Leo and Splinter- daddy issues lol. Ok but seriously, I think it is super interesting to read fics that explore their interactions. I love the idea of Leo being most like Splinter and how complex these two characters are. The way they both seem to misplace their care for their family and make mistakes is so heartbreaking, and seeing them be vulnerable about it to make amends makes me wanna sob into a pillow.

Leo and Usagi- I fell down the Leoichi hole pretty early on in my introduction to the fandom, so this dynamic is forever one of my favorites. I like the range this duo has, I think there are just infinite possibilities on what they can look like and I like that open-endedness. Enemies to lovers? Friends to lovers? Childhood friends to lovers? ArrogantxArrogant? CalmxAnxious? Slowly realizing you're gay and coming out to your family? Platonic? The leoichi fics have got it all, my friend.
