JRWI X SU: GEM PLACEMENT GUIDE
Forewarning: my handwriting is kind of ass.
A few (like two) of you have asked about this and I am happy to oblige. Apologies in advance for the shitty doodles, I did this on my laptop as opposed to on my PC like I normally do.
First and foremost, I'm going to explain how Gem Placement Theory works. Obviously, if you've no knowledge of Steven Universe, this will make little sense. But to put it simply, the location of the Rocks on these Gem Aliens can tell us a little bit about their characters!
This one's gonna be a little long, so strap in!
For general gem placements, I use a body map like this:
Different regions of the body hold different meanings. The head: brains, intelligence, mindfulness. The chest: emotions, the heart. The naval region: sentimentality and kindness. A few of these have been confirmed to be SU canon. In an interview once, Rebecca Sugar implied that Roses' gem is on her stomach because she is sentimental, or something like that.
I tend to focus on these meanings and then apply them to my gem OCs and Gem AU characters. Gillion fits into this category. However, sometimes gem meanings can be even more specific.
Two big examples of this from Steven Universe are Aquamarine and Jasper. Aquamarine's gem is placed (and shaped) to resemble a fake tear drop. It's sort of ironic because of how uncaring she seems to be. Also it looks like one of those prison murder tats but I don't think that's on purpose. And Jasper's placement was explained (I think in the SU podcast?) to be a reference to being "hard-nosed". Gem Jay and Chip sort of fit into both this and the last category.
I use both the specific meanings and the body regions when making gem designs. But, I generally gravitate towards the first one. Now onto the actual designs.
Gillion is "The Strong One". At least, that's what he wants you to think. Actually, at one point Jay had more HP then him, but that didn't stop him from tanking hits to keep his friends out of harms way. Paladins are also generally more associated with being physically strong than rogues and artificers. So that's one factor, after all, you puff out your chest to feel stronger. But also! Gillion is PASSIONATE! He loves his friends and has all sorts of big emotions that come from being new to the Oversea! And the chest is where the heart is. Finally, and don't take this too seriously, Gill is a little stupid. They all are, actually. There's a reason the Albatrio aren't know for their brains. That's what Edison Kingdom is for. But out of all of them, I think Gillion is the most "Feelings over Thoughts" kind of guy, mostly because he's the least emotionally reserved.
Now Jay and Chip are a little less about where the gem IS and more about where it ISN'T.
Did you know that the right eye is the Eye of Ra? The Egyptian SUN god? Obviously the, Ferin's have connections with Aster, with Jay's "Hot Sun Dreams" and all that. Whether or not she's some Sun chosen one like Gill is to the Moon, I'm not sure. But regardless, she's got a glaring link to the big, bright, fiery lady in the sky. Jay's got some eye stuff going on in general. As do the other Ferins. Her gem is specifically over the one that DOESN'T turn orange, though. Mostly, so it'd still be visible without affecting her gem. Also, people tend to close one eye when aiming.
Chip. Chip. Chippy Chip Boy. Did you know that the left eye is the Eye of Horus? Did you know this eye can be associated with the moon? Did you know Fish and Chi-
Okay, but seriously. His open eye is the left one, which can be associated with "protection from malevolent forces". He survived the Hole in the Sea, which one might say is a malevolent force, relatively unscathed (well, not emotionally, but at least he's not still stuck in there like Arlin is). And of course, there's the shit with Niklaus. A little ironic, as he is DEFINITELY not safe from that guy. Plus undead are often considered to be evil, and well... you know. More irony.
I also wanted all their gems to be symmetrical for when I draw their fusions (I already have technically, just not in Clip Studio).
Additionally, Jay and Chip are sort of two different kinds of traditional "smarts". With Jay being more tech-y/book smart and Chip being a cunning street smart kind of guy.
BONUS! A bunch of doodles I did for other characters in this AU. I think the Black Rose Pirates (and pirates in general) are like the Crystal Gems, and then the Diamond Authority would be the Navy. So, just know that even though I didn't draw him, Captain Rose will probably be either a Desert Rose or just straight up Rose Quartz.

Do you think Pearl actually belonged to White for some time, but then was reset to factory mode and given to Pink, or right when she was made for White she gave her to Pink and took Earl?
Nope!
I know that was a popular theory for a while, and understandably so. The gem placements do match up. But it was confirmed in the End of an Era book to not be the case.
Or rather, it was stated in one of the Timelines that our Pearl was 'custom-ordered' and delivered to Pink directly.

If we go by this canon, then no, CG pearl never belonged to white diamond.
Though it's still a fun alternate universe to think about!

Why is Steven’s gem on his navel and not on his chest like other Blue Diamond AU Stevens usually have?
That's a great question! I noticed that most Blue Stevens had kept the original placement of Blue Diamond in the original show, but with the way I have set up this AU, I thought that switching the placement would make more sense as I follow the gem placement theory! (Gem placements giving a subtle insight to the type of person that gem is)
Blue Diamond in my AU is a lot more like Canon!Pink than she is Canon!Blue. Let me explain the thought process:
In the canon, every diamond has each aspect of a being they represent: White = Mind, Yellow = Physical, Blue = Emotions, and Pink = Soul/Spirit. With this in mind, this AU flips the placement of each gem, while keeping their core purpose. This has also led to major world changes due to the "ranking" of each diamond; Yellow being the head instead of White. This means that for example, on Homeworld, general strength and military is valued higher rather than their "perfection" beyond the diamonds.
For Blue, she mixes Canon!Pink's naturally childish wants with a higher understanding of emotions and how they affect others. She doesn't properly understand OTHER beings needs until she meets humans.
Canon!Pink's interest in Earth and Humanity came in the ability humans have to change, My Blue Diamond's interest came in the ability humans have to feel for even the smallest things, like feeling sad for an animal that can't even talk back or do something for them. Not everything on earth is about servitude and having strength.
Take a doodle for your troubles <3 thanks for the question!

i know it’s been said on here plenty of times but i genuinely get so upset when i see people continuously perpetuate the whole “Gehrman’s a creep and the Doll is a sex object theory” when there’s an actually direct in-game evidence showing that none of that is true. and yk what despite the posts abt this that already exist i am, in fact, gonna make one of my own.
Okay so first off, The Voiceline. You know the one.

Yeah this line got interpreted by a portion of the fandom as weird, especially because of the tone it’s said in. However, there are two pieces of context that immediately show what he meant by this.
The first, is that you DO use the Doll. She provides a service for you by taking your blood echoes and turning them into your strength (the level up system).

Aside from this, the ability to talk to her, and the option of giving her an item, there is nothing else you can do with her, and nothing else the game even implies you can do with her. She does not even have any truly “romantic” dialogue. She mentions that she loves you, but that she does because she was created to do so.

She loves all the hunters because her purpose is to care for them, and in her words, embolden their sickly spirits.
The second piece of context is in Gehrman’s dialogue just before he says the line about the Doll.

He is telling you that anything you find in the workshop is a tool you can use to strengthen yourself and make the hunt easier. He is referring to the Doll as a tool, because she is one of the few the workshop has not lost. He’s not sexualizing her, he’s talking about her like she is a tool, and something to be used, not seen as a person.

Is it a good thing? No, but considering he resents her for not being what he created her to be (or by another interpretation, coming to life when he never intended her to), it’s not unreasonable to assume that over time he would just categorize her as a thing instead of a person.
The second piece of evidence towards this god awful theory is the Doll’s white blood. Honestly I cannot believe people genuinely take this as being semen, because not only is there a canon reason for creatures to have pale blood, but also it’s just disgusting.

You need a minimum of one insight to see the Doll during the game, she was given life by the Moon Presence following Gehrman’s placement in the Hunter’s Dream, and she bleeds pale blood. She’s kin. (Yes I am aware the game does not consider her kin in regards to whether or not she can be dealt damage based gems that alter your attacks vs kin, but you’re not supposed to be fighting her anyway, and it’s not like you need a bonus to kill her in the first place).
And finally, to address the other big point, the item descriptions that appear on Maria’s Hunter Garb and the Doll’s Set.

I would like to address first, the obvious, that Maria’s garb says directly she was “unaware of his curious mania” (however you interpret that), but the point is she was unaware, he clearly in life, never made advances on her (which is something I’ve seen a few people state is ‘implied’???).
The second, and this one is a bit in the subtext, is that the Doll seems to not have any idea that Gehrman ever had any positive feelings towards her at all, she expresses a love for the hunter in a way that reflects someone who was never shown love in any capacity (likely due to the circumstances surrounding her achieving sentience), so its reasonable to assume as well that she was entirely unaware of the ‘curious mania’ as well.
Additionally I would point out that while referencing Gehrman’s mania once more, the Doll’s description also directly states that she was once loved and cared for, something that changed after she gained sentience. She likely served as a memorial for Maria, considering there is no canon evidence Maria herself actually has a grave.

The grave that provides the Old Hunter Bone may be hers, but the item description refers to the hunter it came from as “he.” This could be due to it being placed there prior to the decision to give Maria the quickening skill in her boss fight, or it could be that Maria did not have a proper grave for whatever reason, and thus the Doll was needed, which could then relate the obsession to an obsession with Gehrman keeping a memory of her, as there is nothing else he seems to have of her.

Everything here aside I would like to also point out that the Doll is quite literally, a doll. There is nothing that would even suggest she would be capable of any sort of sexual relationship.
Especially because even before the Dream, the Doll did have a specific purpose. She seems to be modeled after Victorian mourning dolls, which were items used to help families/loved ones process grief, typically of children, by having something to remind them of the deceased that did not itself look deceased. If you consider the grave in the Abandoned Old Workshop to be Maria’s and know that that’s also where the Doll is in the waking world, then that’s probably what she’s for. Or as stated before, the grave may NOT be hers, and the Doll itself IS her grave.
Another thing I didn’t point out but will, for a moment get into, is the Doll’s clothing being feminized. A lot of people take this as Gehrman being a misogynist and sexualizing her in a more feminine way as if he himself was not training Maria (and likely other women) to be hunters during his life. He encouraged the less feminine life she lived as a hunter!
That point always confuses me, especially knowing that one of the last things Maria likely said to Gehrman was what she said after the massacre at the Fishing Hamlet where she threw away her weapon and renounced the hunt, choosing to retire (and potentially become a caretaker for the Church’s patients, judging by her role in the Hunter’s Nightmare). Like OF COURSE he dressed her like that, she expressed that she no longer wanted to be a hunter so he made her the opposite. The only reason she is dressed the way she is in the Hunter’s Nightmare is because that is how Kos is depicting her, not because it’s her conscious choice.
The point of this is, Gehrman is one of my all time favorite characters alongside Maria and the Doll, and while yes, I am well aware he isn’t perfect, it’s still frustrating to see him get so mischaracterized by a fandom who insists they love lore so much, and care about the tiny details. You can dislike Gehrman or think he does shitty things and that’s fine, but creating a story where he’s a creep just to prove you care about Maria and the Doll is weird. And it’s weirdER that people argue IN FAVOR of the theory as if it MUST be true, because honestly why would anyone even want it to be???
This post also was specifically done without consideration for whatever type of relationship Gehrman and Maria had according to canon or any interpretations. Essentially I’m not necessarily saying any of this has anything to do with whether or not you ship them, I personally don’t, but I know some people do, and I feel like on either side you can still be critical of this Doll theory, as it is entirely baseless.
(In case anyone is interested, the images and references used for this were from the Bloodborne wiki, specifically this one.)
#bloodborne#gehrman the first hunter#lady maria of the astral clocktower#the plain doll#debunking my least favorite theory#sorry i saw someone say smth abt it and got frustrated so i wrote this at 2am and then instantly passed out#bloodborne theory#bloodborne lore#mistakes and spelling or grammar fuckups are due to this being written when i shouldve been asleep#if i see one i’ll fix it later

I'm back and this time I do actually have a theory!
Okay, so based on the tags and placement of the fic I'm assuming this is our mystery-green-ambush person who wa attacking Soup Group + Skizz. The main tags in question being "Assassins & Hitmen" and Soup Group name. Obviously the hitmen tags could be referring to Gem... but I'm grasping at straws here ;-; as for the placement well.. it's right after "For seven years" pretty self explanatory for that one.
As for who the actual person is.. I'm leaning towards Etho or Joel, both are commonly associated with green and ninja/assassin motifs (+ we know you like writing etho from ttsbc, and joel is often depicted as a Short King™). That's about all I have right right now... (other than im very intrigued as to what hybrid this character is going to be. Doesnt seem like an avian because we know they're not collored immediately and wouldnt be left alone for an assassination attempt like this character seems to be while hunting Gem. But we know they have wings? Or are at least around others who do have them?? but I'm very very excited to see where this goes!
Oooooo, I absolutely love all the theories!!! It's been so much fun to see everyone trying to piece together the mystery over this past week!
I'm still not sure where the wings thing came from...I don't think I ever mentioned feathers or wings anywhere but maybe I'm just going crazy 😅
So glad you're excited!!!

Nausicaä costume(s): Research
My favorite part of costuming from animation is imagining how the simple textures of animated cloth can be brought into real life. I take into account setting, especially if it’s a fantasy/historical/historical fantasy story, to determine what materials the characters would have access to before I decide what materials I will use. Certain concessions have to be made for cost/efficiency’s sake, but if something ends up taking more time in order to be cost-effective, I will usually take that route.
For Nausicaä, the princess of the Valley of the Wind, the cloth they have access to (in the logic set forth by Miyazaki in the manga) is wool woven from the hair of the goats and long-hair cattle raised in the Valley of the Wind, as well as a linen-like cloth woven from fibers raised in the valley. The manga confirms they raise these animals, and the film shows the many fields of agricultural plants.

Some observations I’ve made about outfits across kingdoms:
-There is a tank top-like foundation garment worn across kingdoms, and most outfits feature waist-fastening trousers. They fit loosely around the leg, but can be easily tucked into boots and have protective gaiters/greaves fastened over them. Materials could be different across kingdoms, but I speculate the tank/undershirt garment is linen and the trousers are undyed wool. In the photo below, the two women with Nausicaä are a Pejite citizen and the mother of the Pejite princess. Nausicaä wears the same undershirt and trouser combination as the Pejite citizen.

-The kingdom-specific variations seem to be in the cut/coloring/decoration of the tunics; neckline, pocket placement, gem embellishment, and applique/embroidery designs are examples of these variations. Below are images of Princess Kushana of Tolemekia, Princess Lastelle of Pejite, Princess Nausicaä disguised as a Pejite citizen, and finally Nausicaä in her most formal outfit we see. Headwear also varies across kingdoms; Tolemekia uses the most metal and Princess Kushana’s may show her high status as both military leader and royalty.

For the outfit I’m referring to as the “princess” outfit, or the most formal-appearing of the outfits featured in the movie, this is likely where the finest (meaning fineness of the spun thread and tightness of the weave) of the fabrics would be used. However, given that the people of the Valley of the Wind are very community-focused and their princess regularly engages directly with her people regardless of social standing, the “finest” fabric is probably available for community members to use and sew with, just dyed in different colors. Only Nausicaä wears the bright, sky-blue fabric, and her “finest” fabric version is a less-saturated hue of that sky-blue; I am going to assume this blue is reserved for members of the royal family, but not used to its full concentration/saturation capabilities since they are a fairly humble kingdom. The tunic also features pale purple trim around the neckline, sleeve cuffs, and the hemline of the skirt; a belt/sash in the same color is tied at the waist.
The trousers and boots seem to be the same as in other outfits (including the flight suit, further reinforcing my theory that these are base garments and the headwear and tunics are the variants), the same off-white of undyed wool and sturdy brown boots found across kingdoms.

In my mind’s eye, the headwear could be knit large in wool and then felted, with the gems sewn into the fabric after the fact. It could also be the same fabric as her tunic but lined/reinforced with a stiffened fabric to make it appear as a truly matching set.

Nausicaä’s flight tunic is a similar, slightly darker shade of blue than her formal tunic. It does not function as armor, but it is worn with protective gloves, protective gaiters/greaves, and a flexible head covering; the tunic itself is soft, pliable and features six cylindrical pockets for flares on its front. This flare-pocket style (in the animated film) is unique to the Valley of the Wind; Lord Yupa stores his flares in a similar manner, but that same storage is not featured on Asbel of Pejite’s tunic when he is shown in the Sea of Decay with his rifle. The neck fastening does not allow the collar (looks to me like a band collar) to close fully, but allows for it to be pulled over the head easily. I personally like the idea that this is a short length of spiral lacing (with the spiral facing towards the skin) with cord dyed to match the blue of her gloves, gaiters, and headwear.

The flight tunic is the shortest of the tunics in the movie, hitting her upper thigh. Nausicaä is proportioned like a classic shoujo heroine (in that her legs are long for her body), so some concessions may be made for people who are trying to balance screen accuracy with personal wearability. I personally will be going with personal wearability and, while my legs are long, my torso is not, so I will make adjustments in my own pattern.
Fabric-wise, wool seems most likely here (and is confirmed in a special insert to the Nausicaä manga to be specifically felted wool). The tunic skirt/flare is unlined. The whole tunic can be moved by wind, but not in a wispy way, which makes me think this is, within the logic of the manga and film, felted from a tightly-woven lightweight wool. For story accuracy, I could go with this -- but if I want to wear this tunic in daily life without looking very obviously costumed, I’ve never been a fan of felted wool on garments that aren’t coats. I plan to go with a woven wool fabric with a visible weave.

My first guess was that these gloves were wool and wet-felted directly onto a mold, but seeing the little finger seam gave me pause. The only soft, pliable material that still allows for some grip that the Valley of the Wind would have access to (that I can currently think of) would be hide/leather; blue leather dye seems hard to come by, though. The boots are also likely leather (maybe even the Valley breathing masks), though they could also be felted wool with leather/suede soles. If not made from leather, the gaiters/greaves, hat, and gloves are dyed blue would likely be felted wool.

Next is the prophecy tunic. This tunic is from the kingdom of Pejite; see one of the earlier images where the pink tunic is in the woman’s arms. It has a tall band collar that closes completely at the neck with a visible join and its most recognizable feature is the turtle-like design across the chest
It is originally pink but changes color when the blood of a baby Ohmu dyes it a dark blue. The blood also overdyes Nausicaä’s trousers a pale blue (the resulting shade is not unlike the blue of her princess outfit).

The skirt of the prophecy tunic falls below Nausicaä’s knees and is unlined. The sleeves flare somewhat over the wrist (they do not fit tightly) and a belt is worn at Nausicaä’s waist.

Based on what we know about Pejite from the manga, plus the similarities in how the center of this turtle-like design and various jewelries are shaded in the film, it is very likely that this design is beaded/beadwork and stitched/embroidered onto the garment. Given that the design is unaffected by the Ohmu’s blood when the fabric items are overdyed, they would need to be nonporous. I’m thinking carnelian and/or red jasper for the cabochon in the center (could also be made with smaller beads since finding a chunk of polished stone that size would be challenging, not to mention expensive and heavy to wear) and porcelain or white stoneware clay beads for the main portion of the design.

attention steven universe tumblr, i had a thought
took a shower and now my head is occupied with this concept.
so we know that pearls are personalized for one specific gem and they typically conform to that gem when they first form. this also applies to when they're rejuvenated (keep that in mind!). but i noticed something about the diamond's pearls.
notice the similarities in posing, appearance, and presentation, but most importantly, in gem placement.
this particularly drew my attention because. the diamonds' pearls are seemingly made to be very similar to their "owners". it only makes sense that this would apply to their gem placement as well.
this also applies to pink diamond and volleyball (og pink pearl) as seen below
they both have naval gems and upbeat personalities. but of course, volleyball became white diamond's pearl after that whole incident slash debacle slash problem slash whatever you like to call it. but.
did white diamond have a pearl previously?
and if so, what happened to her?
well,
what pearl with a white gem do we know very well? one with her pearl on her forehead? one who was given to pink after her original pearl was taken by white?
that's right.
the main pearl, the pearl we all know and love, was white diamond's pearl before volleyball.
just think about it for a second. we know that homeworld prefers to avoid wasting pearls, and well, rejuvenation and the reef exist for a reason. when volleyball was injured and could not be healed by any means, white diamond decided it would be best if she and pink traded pearls. white ensured that either due to rejuvenation or her mind control powers that pearl would not remember ever working under her as to ensure her loyalty to pink diamond.
but since she already existed, her gem placement could not be altered. and that is what really happened with the diamond pearls. yellow and blue pearl are just vibin this whole time tbh they're just watching this go down
to add on, there was also that one side comment from peridot where she said "you're a pearl. and a rather fancy one too" (or something along those lines) implying that pearls had varying quality with the highest quality being given to the diamonds. yet another reason why they couldn't just give pink an entirely new pearl.
this theory might seem a bit outlandish, but is there really anything to prove it false?
there probably is something that i'm missing that proves me wrong but I WILL STAND BY THIS THEORY.
edit: i see people pointing out that this is a common theory and that it is accepted as canon, and i would just like to state that i had no fucking clue because i've never seen anyone discuss it (then again, i'm not very deep into the world of su theories). just wanted to say that (and i'm not mad or anything)
#steven universe#diamond authority#pearls#su theory#please help me i am going insane#how did i never realize this before and also why don't people talk about it more#like it makes so much sense#i am writing this at 2 am#pink pearl#white diamond#pink diamond#holy shit

I have a headcanon I'm curious about your opinion on if you don't mind, as I've seen many differing opinions on this.
In BotW, Urbosa brings up Nabooru by name, even stating her to be the namesake of Divine Beast Vah Naboris. The Divine Beasts are also believed to be based off of the masks once worn by the ancient Sages, and to me the way the avatars wear the old sage helms when you put on the Divine Helms all but confirms it.
The Nabooru we know and love, I am not sure how likely it is her name alone survived all the way to Hyrule, especially having the ancient part of TotK being over 10,000 years before the Era of the Wilds, and OoT being even further before that (at least as I headcanon it. Hyrule has been destroyed and refounded before. Why couldn't it have happened again?)
That being said, I believe that while the tale of the Sage of Spirit may not have made it to the creation of the Divine Beasts, her name did, often being a beautiful and strong name for young Gerudo. Eventually this name landed upon the young girl who would eventually grow up to harness the very power of the skies, gaining the graces of the newborn kingdom of Hyrule and fighting against her people's corrupted, demonic king, donning a mask that would inspire a machine that embraced her power and then mothering a bloodline of strong matriarchs who would carry her command over lightning in their blood.
Therefore: I believe that the Sage of Lighting from the Era of Myth is named Nabooru, likely unknowingly sharing the name of another great Gerudo hero from a time long forgotten.
That's a great headcanon, and it works well within your framing! And I agree that there's probably been thousands of children named after the original sages. It sounds solid to me!
I haven't read much on the differing headcanons, so I'm in no place to really compare them opinion-wise, as I personally don't place the Wilds Era with the other timelines. It feels to me like a retcon/consolidation of all the games, so I don't try to place it in concurrence, but I salute those of you who do! It's hard work!
This isn't intended to debunk anyone's theory, I'm just gonna ramble about neat things in Game Design real quick lol
I do think there are very distinct and intentional design pulls from Nabooru in the SoL's design that are not (as far as I know) consistent with other Gerudo design, including Riju and Urbosa. Though her design is Completely Different from Nabooru in OoT, there are a lot of very subtle detail references:
Credit to @/sidonisms for the model pull
The most obvious to me is the color of her secret stone: Despite the color for lightning stones in both BotW and TotK being topaz (Ganondorf's favored gem and pre-triforce ability in OoT) and it becoming more of a gold on Riju, this sage's stone is specifically the color of the Spirit token from Ocarina of Time (shown more clearly below). It's also the same shape, but I've dismissed that since they're all the same shape.
She also appears to be one of the few if not the only?? Gerudo with a vertical earring, where most of them wear hoops (also true in OoT! The other Gerudo wear studs like Ganondorf did pre-timeskip -- fun fact, Ganondorf wears hoops in TotK).
While most Gerudo wear an arm band or two, most of them are solid bands. The Sage's, I suspect, is intentionally complex (albeit much more simplified than OoT's) to be reminiscent of Nabooru's. The placement and shape language in her necklace, the placement and stone pattern of her belt, the golden leg braces that only resemble Ganondorf's also imply references to me (only Nabooru and Ganondorf wore the star shaped crests in OoT), and her neon lip color! Which I take to be a reference to Nabooru's original Ganguro Girl design influence.
ALTHOUGH,
It's also very possible that they split Nabooru's aspects into two separate characters; As this woman's high ponytail in a golden cuff, distinctly shaped/colored necklace, and apparent status as Ganondorf's right hand also appear to be direct references to Nabooru:
Maybe it's like Majin Buu and they split her into Nabu and Ru.
Or OOOOH MAYBE it's the SAME character, and it IS a direct reference to OoT Nabooru, since they both have the same eyes and lips and skin tone (and nail polish!), and she just changed her look when she started doubting Ganondorf. I think I just gave myself a new hc, haha, thank you for making me think about this.
ANYWAY!!
For me and my headcanons I feel exactly the same way about the Sage of Lightning that I do about TotK Ganondorf in that -- Yep, that's Nabooru. Also, it's not Nabooru at all. It both is and isn't. It's Naboo-AU-ru.
But my personal hcs aside, I think yours work very well within your framing and make a lot of sense! My opinion is "Yes, Good."
#lozhc#Nabooru#Ganondorf#I feel like I just unlocked something magical in my brain bless#Someone in the fandom has probably already thought of this but as I may have mentioned I am AWFUL at participating in the fandom aklsdJlaks#because of my perspective on TotK my hcs for TotK are Wildly Different but run parallel to my HCs for OoT#so this was very very fun to chew on thank you for throwing a pumpkin into my enclosure for enrichment

I know I'm insanely late to the game with a Steven universe fan theory, (spoilers if u haven't watched)
But what if pink diamond had pigtails? Or at least space buns? now looking at her mural and everyone's flashbacks, she has very puffy, short hair. It's not styled at all. We have no reason to believe that she looked anything different than that.
But consider the pearls. The only ones we see are the diamonds pearls. Yellow and blue pearl greatly resemble their owners. Similar hair style, similar clothes style, same gem placement. Pearl the crystal gem has the same color and gem placement as white, but I dont remember if it was ever official. However, she was not Pink diamonds first pearl. Volleyball was.
We see flashbacks and testimonies of Pink diamond before she had a colony. She was childish, bratty, and out of control. We also know that she was much smaller than the other diamonds, and her place in the "family" was the young child. There are speculations that she was imperfect or defective or whatever, but we're gonna ignore that.
So here it is: what if Pink diamond *used* to have pigtails when she was new/young? She is known for being rebellious and the first diamond to ever change and grow over time. So what if her appearance changed with her?
Pink was still shown to be toddler-esque from what volleyball said, throwing screaming fits when she didnt get her way. Volleyball, presumably her first pearl would have been assigned to Pink when she first emerged. Pearls, taking the appearance of their "owners" could have meant that Pink had hair very similar to Volleyball or possibly Spinel.
Spinel is more of a stretched theory, but, she has the same gem placement and similar outfit to pink. Based on the pearl song in the movie, (presumably) Spinel are also "owned" gems designated to entertain their owner. So let's say that Pink is a whiny little new gem who trashes stuff and needs to kept occupied and out of the way. Shes gifted a spinel who is meant to look like her at the time she was gifted.
So let's say that she outgrew spinel and changed her hair or possibly even get proofed andreformed, because we already know the diamonds used force with eachother (Yellow electrocuting Blue in the movie) causing her to reform and drop them?
TLDR Volleyball has pigtails. Spinel has pigtails. They were both young Pink's gems and share alot of other traits in common. Therefore, Pink probably had pigtails when she was young.

i've been rewatching steven universe, and i'm having emotions at 3am about garnet. i was thinking about that theory of gem placement, symbolizing where they draw their power. pearl with her brain, amethyst with her heart. garnet's on her palms because of her ability to take action, to literally take fate into her own hands. and it makes me think about the individual aspects of ruby and sapphire. ruby, never having to think twice about doing the right thing, but lacking the foresight to gauge the possible consequences. sapphire can see every possible outcome but becomes overwhelmed by the choices and freezes. together, they balance and complete each other.

Why are Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl’s pearls on their foreheads and not their chests and why are Pink Pearl and White Pearl’s pearls on their chests instead of their navels?
I've answered a similar question about the Diamonds! To put it simply, This AU is more of a role swap rather than a "what if" AU when it comes to the gems. For example, this AU's Blue is closer to Canon Pink's personality than to Canon Blue's, and since I follow the gem placement theory, their placements have swapped!
For that reason, the Pearls also have their gems swapped due to their Diamonds having theirs's swapped!
"So why does Blue Pearl have hers on her forehead, when Volleyball has hers on her navel?" um
that was a mistake
...I'll be fixing that when I make more art of her (I made the original designs back in 2023 so they're outdated anyway besides yellow, so I plan on drawing them again soon AHAHA)

Hello hi people, I just need to get something off my chest and rant for a second
I hate hate HATE the "Pearl used to be White Diamonds pearl/is part of White Diamonds court" theory with a fiery passion!!!!
The only evidence towards this theory is that Pearl is the color white and has her gem at her forehead like White has and it drives me absolutely insane
I'll explain why under the cut cause I talk a lot
#1: Color Palletes and Gem Placement
So the main reason for the theory is cause Pearl's gem is on her forehead like White's gem is, and she's the same color as White
And in the show, all the Diamonds pearls also have the same gem placement and the same skin color
But the thing is though, it's not just the gem placement and skin tone that shows they were made to serve that specific diamond
All the pearls made for a specific diamond, also have every part of their form the same or similar color scheme to the diamond they were made for
They have lighter and less bold colors than the diamonds, and theur accessories matches with one of the parts of the diamond' s forms (Yellow Pearl being Yellow Diamond's shoulder pads, and Blue/Pink Pearl being their diamonds skirts)
And it's shown on homeword that if a gem was made for a specific diamond, their entire color pallete is just different shades of the colors their diamond has
For example Topaz and Aquamarine

Since they're both high ranking gems made for Yellow and Blue diamond specifically, they share most of the same colors as their assigned diamond, despite their gems not being in the same placement as them
It's the same for Holy Blue Agate, since she's also a high ranking gem made just to serve under Blue Diamond, her entire body is made up of different shades of blue (mostly), and Sapphires cause they're all rare aristocratic gems
But that's not the case for Pearl, the only part of her body that's similar to the color of white is her skin and even that's not actually the same color as white
Pearl is like slightly off white
White Damond is BLINDING
White Diamond so bright she was hard for Steven to look directly
And it's shown any gem who's under White's control, also becoles the same shade of white she is and shares her exact color pallete cause they are becoming her
If Pearl was made to be part of "White Diamonds Court", which I'll get to why that doesn't make sense in a second, she would have the exact same white, grey, and black colors in her form.
But she doesn't she has the color pallete of every single Diamond, and there's a reason for that too
But if Pearl was actually supposed to belong to White, her color scheme would be totally different (and probably be less friendly looking), and part of her form would resemble part of White's form (most likely her cape), or at the very least their gems would be same same color
I personally think that there are 2 reasons why some gems can have their respectice diamonds colors and some can't, is because high ranking gems having them is like a physical representation of how powerful and important they are during era 1 and 2 of Homeworld, that's why their colors are the exact same shade as their diamond. And for pearls it's because they're seen as "accessories" and not ad living beings, so when one is made for a specific diamond, they're made to have the same colors as them but a bit lighter and less bold because they rank lower than them and are just meant to stand next to them and look pretty. That's just my personal theory though.
Now color-wise that's one of the reason the theory Pearl belonged to White makes no sense, but there are other parts to it that make it makes even less sense
#2: White Diamonds Place On Homeworld
White Diamond has shown time and time again pre-redemptiom, that she is so much more different than any other gem that's been made inculding the other diamonds
It's because she is, or supposed to be, the perfect gem. That's what she was made to be, that is her purpose. It's because of this that she doesn't technically have a colony or a specific type of gem made for her, she's literally the creator of all the gems and IS every gem.
She doesn't have a specific colony because the entirety of homeworld is her court, every gem that's ever been made was made to serve under her. That's why all the other gems are many different colors, cause she's every color of the light. So saying Pearl belongs to White's court the same way that Yellow Pearl or Topaz is part of Yellow's court isn't entirely true.
She's the only gem of their kind who was made to look like that cause she's essentially just a gem god in their eyes pre-Steven Universe, so her having her own color-coded cour like the other diamonds wouldn't make that much sense cause she is the gem, and the only thing that can resemble her likeness is her. That's why any gem that does resemble her likeness just end up being a smaller version of her that she talks through and can command at her will.
Another small theory is that a reason why there's never been a gem that looks super similar to how White Diamond looks is because she is literally their god and having another gem that isn't her even slightly resemble her would be disrespectful cause it's like trying to make a smaller less powerful version of a god (maybe anyways)
I know this specific part of White Diamonds character might now be the most well known, but neither is the next part i'm about to explain
#3: Gems Are Mass Produced
Peridot said this when she was first starting to get reformed that there were hundreds of other pearls being flaunted around on homeworld
And in the show we see dozens of the same exact gem in shown in a group like Amethysts, Rubies, and Rose Quartz's
But they're army gems who are made to fight or gaurd stuff for Homeworld, so of course we get see tons of them together throughout the show
But the biggest thing that shows that gems are basically just mass produced tools made to serve the empire is during the ballroom scene in the "Together Alone" episode
Most of the gems in that ballroom looks almost identical to each other except for the shade of their skin, their hair, and their gem placement
It's a very great way (to me) to show that individuality does not matter on homeworld
Not every gem was made to be special, even the high ranking gems are reduced to cogs in the big machine in the eyes of the Diamonds, all of them are made to serve a specific purpose and follow the rules set in place for them
The only gems that actually matter and are supposed to be unique and one of a kind are the diamonds themselves
But despite that we never see that many pearls in Steven Universe, even after Era 3 started and all the gems were free, there weren't a lot of pearls on screen from what I remember
The only one's we really see are the Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Crystal Gem Pearl
Now pearls are the lowest ranking gems in the entire hierarchy of gem culture, all they're made to do is sing, dance, and look pretty standing next to the gem that they're assigned to
I think the reason we don't see many gems other than the diamonds own a pearl is because they're also a status symbol, a nice trophy you carry around as another way to flaunt how important you are to other gems
That would explain why the diamonds not only get their own pearl automatically, but also get one that matches them, cause they're the most importsnt gems of all
But the thing with Pearl is like I said earlier, she's multi-colored
She has white skin, and her clothes are mostly blue and yellow, and her socks are pink
Since Pearl doesn't have the exact color pattern as one specific, she doesn't belong to a specific diamond or court
She's a back-up", a replacement, a spare they can give to any gem who's lucky enough to be able to have one, or if one of the diamonds specially made pearls get taken away (Which is why she got given to Pink Diamond)
Since pearls are the lowest ranking gem, they probably are one of the most made gems cause they don't need that many resources and material to be made cause they aren't designed to do much
Or maybe cause they're so easy to make they make a few of them to last and store somewhere so they can assign them to whatever gem earns the status to have one
And in the movie, it's shown that the colors pearl has in her form is part of the "default setting" that proves more she can literally belong to any court
It's the same with Rubies, Amethysts, Jaspers, and Peridots
They don't match the colors of any of the diamonds either, they could be assigned to or made for any of the diamonds or any other gem that commands them, like pearls can
I think the lesser ranking of a gem you are, the more of you that's able to be made due to using less resources, and lacking a need to be assigned to a specific diamond cause all of them need you for the same purpose so it doesn't matter anyways who you belong to
Anyways that's my third and last reason why it doesn't make sense that Pearl originally belonged to or was part of White Diamonds court
I hope this made sense, I had a lot of thoughts to try and type out
I've mainly see this theory on tik tok and it makes my blood boil so much oh my god
#steven universe#pearl steven universe#white diamond#pearl#steven universe theory#i haven't watched steven universe in a while so i tried my best to stay accurate to the show#god i hate that theory so much#rant post#i wish the show didnt end so soon#i would have loved to see more of what homeworld was like in era 1#or just know more about gem history in general#it's so interesting and it wasn't talked about enough!!!!#i know the reason why the past wasn't talked about that much#but like i still wish we could've seen more of it!!÷÷#i hope i worded everything correctly too#i didnt really spell check this either i just needed to yell about this#also do you think pearls that belong to the diamonds have a superiority complex#like since they were made specifically for the diamonds they think they're better than other pearls#god everyday I hope for a steven universe prequel#i know it's never gonna happen but i wanna dream

Guys I have an AU for SU that I rlly wanna post about bc the cup head fandom is dead apparently and it didn’t get the attention and asks I wanted it to 😭😭
Basically to sum it up,
All of gem Kind started somewhere. The Refractal Galaxy. A large cluster of planets and systems consisting of gems.
The rulers are the first gems to ever accumulate in the universe. One gem made purely of sunlight. All the suns in the universe. One gem made of moonlight and starlight. All the moons and stars in the universe.
Daumand and Dagmand. Or, Golden Sun Diamond and Silver Moon Diamond.
(Au= periodic symbol for gold. Ag= periodic symbol for silver)
These two gems collectively rule over four colonies.
White, Black, Light Grey and Dark Grey.
Whites colony is the one we know and love. White, Blue, Yellow and Pink.
At the time, White was upset with how she was being treated by her curator (Daumand) and escaped the Refractal Galaxy. They ended up in our galaxy. The galaxy that earth resides in.
Pink diamond had been in production and had been taken on the ship with White, Yellow and Blue.
White, Yellow and Blue know of their two creators, but Pink never finds out. In this AU, I go off of the theory that Pearl originally belonged to White (due to her gem being on her head, other pearls gem placements reflect the diamond they serve) and she remembers them too. However Pink pearl didn’t exist at the time and had no clue of their existence.
Homeworld doesn’t know of their existence either. Just White, Yellow and Blue. (And their pearls).
Dagmand gets frustrated with how her sister treats her like an inferior, though later we find that Dagmand is in fact the superior gem in combat and ability in general. So she runs away to whites colony as “Moonstone” a gem who never got produced but White ‘apparently’ liked enough to keep around. White is aware of Moonstone’s true identity, while the others aren’t. She places Moonstone into pinks colony, to protect her on earth and observe her.
(I’ll type another part to this soon, this is all you get for now. If you want more please like and follow!! I have a comic idea for this but I apologise about slow uploads as I’m a student and work so I only have one day free.)
