Appears from the ether again, after months of only being present enough to fill my queue up, with some WIP snippets from the gen:LOCK re-write I mentioned before...
And also finally adressing these tags lmao, sorry @thesouppond I realise these are like 3 months old.
#FUCK IM JUST SEEING THIS NOW???#FUCK YEAH 2024 SEASON OF EVERYONE GETS TO REWRITE GENLOCK CAUSE FUCK S2#Ahem anyway hi genlock moot :)))#I love your writing btw! Ive read your existing GL fics theyre great!#at this point if someone can give me a GL fic i havent already met I will forever be indebted to you i am DYING for GL content
We're really out here trying our best to do better by GL than HBO did huh!! I've been loving Reloaded, it was so nice to see someone else pop up in the gL tag after it was comparatively dead for so long. I've been working on my re-write since just after s2 came out and it was lonely in there for a while there lmao.
So I'm glad you enjoyed the couple of fics I've already done! I'm re-using parts of one of them for the actual re-write since I'm going for the 'keep the basic bones of s2 but aim to fix the execution into something less shit/re-work the worst bits' and I didn't want to write that first nemesis fight over again from total scratch lmao...
I want to finish writing all of the re-write before I post it in full, but that does mean it's taking forever whoops.
I'm still not past the introduction of Sinclair as his portion is so involved and I keep getting distracted by other projects/hobbies, but I did finally get to a point where my take on Sinclair is actually fun to write! I'm keeping his boyfriend because I did at least like that Sinclair was made canonically queer and they're actually cute when I'm just doing my own thing.
So since I feel like posting some WIP bits, here's my favourite Chris/Sinclair stuff I've done so far.
“YEAH! Take that you fucked up tin can!” Sinclair winced. The shout was like an ice pick being driven into his skull, but it was also what finally drove him to lift his head. There ahead of him, wielding a large piece of debris in one hand, was a heavyset Asian man dressed in torn clothes and covered in grime. He reared back, and for a split second Sinclair thought that projectile was for him, until he heard an impact, and the last of the humming died. The man brushed off his hands, pride written on every feature, and in that moment he was the most beautiful thing Sinclair had ever seen. “Coast’s clear!” the stranger called behind him. There was movement, but Sinclair didn’t care to look, his attention caught by the man’s approach. “And we’ve got a live one.” Sinclair’s throat was so dry he broke down coughing twice, in the time it took the stranger to kneel in front of him. “I-I’m not Union. I-I know— with the uniform, and the—” Another violent burst of coughing cut him off. The stranger handed him a canteen and a crooked smile. “Yeah, no shit. You’ve got way too much emotion on your face to be even a defector,” he said, and if Sinclair wasn’t so busy chugging the offered water, he might have mustered a laugh. “That, plus, the lack of helmet, the collapsing, and the drone getting ready to turn you into a novelty cheese grater kinda gave it away.” “Christ, I could kiss you right now,” Sinclair blurted and then regretted in quick succession. Fuck. He’d been in near solitary too long, his filter had worn away to nothing and he was making a damn fool of himself in front of the first sane people he’d seen in weeks. Except the stranger just… laughed, good-naturedly. “Close, the name’s Chris, not Christ. And I’d say buy me dinner first, but it’s a bit hard out here.”
AND then a little later...
“What about the refugee railroads?” Chris lowered his beer bottle and wiped his mouth. “Too far.” “Vanguard safe crossings?” “Too far.” “The— fucking Canadian border?” Chris laughed, “Too far. Further than either of the other things. Jesus, dude. You sure you haven’t got a concussion?” “Mostly,” Sinclair said, rubbing his face with his intact hand. “I just— you’re going to die if you stay here. A drone only has to get lucky once.” “And if we go deeper in, we’ll only die faster,” Chris said with a simple shrug. “We already have to pack up and move every few weeks when the line moves. And every time, the Polity border gets a little bit further away. Believe me, man, I want nothing more than to get outta here, but it’s just not happening.” “What if I helped?” The offer fell out before he’d consciously decided to make it, but Sinclair stood by it. Even when Chris looked at him dubiously. “No offence, dude, but you’re just one guy. And two days ago you could barely stand.” “And now I’m fine,” Sinclair insisted. “I’m a soldier. I was decorated for valour after I got my squad out of a run-in with the Union that should’ve killed us all. I was the only one who could even still hold a gun. I swear, I could get you somewhere safe. Are you really telling me you’d rather keep sitting around waiting to die than take a risk?” Chris’s brow furrowed, and he didn’t answer immediately, taking another swig from his scratched up bottle of beer. Sinclair sighed. “Look. I need to get to a Vanguard base one way or another. I don’t want to leave you guys behind if I don’t have to. I owe you my life. And maybe dinner.” Chris almost choked on his drink. “Wow,” he laughed, clearing his throat, “you sure pick your moments, huh?” Sinclair shrugged. “Figure if you’re not actually into it I’ll just blame the concussion.” “That you don’t have.” “Exactly.” Chris rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. “Smooth. Smooth operator. Alright, alright, fine, we’ll talk to the others in the morning. It might be a tougher sell when they’re not the ones getting dinner with a hot soldier out of it, but hey, guess we’ll see.” “Are you looking past the just-got-done-being-tortured chic, here, or is that part of the charm?” “Are you kidding? There’s a whole genre focused on how hot soldier guys look after they’ve been through hell.” “Not sure that’s the intended takeaway of action movies.” “Well,” Chris shrugged, starting to pick at a can of food, “it was definitely my takeaway.” Sinclair laughed. Honest-to-god laughed, in a way he was surprised he was even capable of after the last few weeks. The normality of the moment was like a balm on all the aching parts of him, mental and physical alike. For a moment he could almost forget that the reason he looked like shit was because he’d just escaped the worst experience of his life. For a moment it felt like the fight was over.
Now I just have to actually get through the remainder of my Sinclair set-up and then I'll be only one chapter away from finishing the first half of the fic... so close and yet so far lmao.

Gen:Lock 2.5 Re(view/cap)
I think this is the best episode in the season so far. I really enjoyed the characterization in it. Let's get to it.
Cammie
Okay so it seems obvious that they're pulling a Rogue One situation. If this is meant to be the definitive end to the Gen:Lock story, alot of what happened before now makes alot of sense.
I absolutely LOVED Cammie's story. I don't think it had the time it needed to breathe, but for what it's worth they made it work. Given all that we've learned this season the progression of her character from moment to moment seemed very plausible to me. She summed it up pretty well with the idea that she needs an "us."
Here's my thing with the discourse from this week:
Tumblr media
This person (who I'm anonymizing for obvious reasons) would be right if what the Union was planning on doing was "genociding humanity." Let's break it down.
The Union does not think they are genociding humanity. They think they are giving humanity a new home in the face of climate collapse. We can call it a lie or a fantasy, but so too follows for all religions because the Omnifaith is literally every religion. It's obviously not a 1-to-1 because the real world doesn't have magical glowy nanobots to yeet your body away, but like if we're willing to suspend your disbelief that far to separate these fictional circumstances from the real world ones, I just don't understand how a person could come to a conclusion as if they aren't.
There is already proof that they are not just murdering people. Gen:Lock as a concept is just temporarily killing yourself to pilot a mecha. It's why one can't "exceed uptime," if one does, their brain will literally be unable to revive their consciousness. They never explicitly say this but I think it's pretty clear. They are not just "falling asleep," their entire person is moving from place to place. And if all it took to "die" was uploading their consciousness into a digital framework, disregarding your body, Gen:Lock is a weaponized, repeated and voluntary suicide they've been participating in since Day 1. If anything Gen:Lock exceptuonalizes the concept, making martyrdom of it. I don't think there's too much here to there for Cammie, who helped develop the thing.
But okay fine. Fine. Maybe the Flow is worse because it's not reversible. There's no returning to your body when you ascend like in Gen:Lock. Two things: the flow literally brought Yaz back to life (although I don't know if she's aware of it), and Brother Tate -- who wholeheartedly believes in his message -- was brought to and fro as well. But even beyond that, Chase cannot return to his body. And moreover, he chose to be stuck in his bot brain forever. Does that mean Chase committed suicide? I think it's more complex than that.
And you might be asking "why doesn't the show just show what it is like in the Flow?" Because the Polity is based on science, which is a necessarily evidence based field. But in contrast to that, the Union is based on faith. Evidences of faith are not literal. It wouldn't be an interesting story if we just got to saw whether or not they were right or wrong. Showing all these people that believe in it is the evidence. But in case that wasn't enough there's alot more i.e. them actively developing it to be more sustainable.
I don't think the show is saying Cammie's suicide was a "good" thing. I'm not down for ascribing moral quality of any kind to suicide. But I don't think the show is glorifying, but the show's characters definitely are. I think the show is simply showing that Cammie did what felt right to her. Why she did what she did and the coercive qualities of the Omnifaith are all important in this conversation! And I think ultimately Cammie didn't even think she was committing suicide, or at the very least she wasn't in a place to acknowledge it. But I think this rough discourse is what makes her story work.
Other G:L
Chase please go to therapy.
Val please go to therapy.
The fact that Yaz mindshared Kazu's DEATH is soooooooooo interesting and should've been way more than just a "talk." Girl's been paid dust.
...oh yea Kazu yea I guess we don't care about him anymore lol
Polity
Marin's characterization this episode was absolutely flawless. Her little speech gave so much context to her as a character. I can finally get behind watching her now that I know. She's not paranoid or cold. She loves her nation and its people. But she values their lives over their choices, and that leads her down a dark path. She's just got a bad case of "tough love." I feel like I've met the exact type of person her character is hyperbolizing.
Union
Wash rinse repeat.
No Man's Land
The gays keep winning. I don't have much to say about Sinclair, but his conflict is nice. Even they struggle with helping others when it's at expense to themselves. I think what Chris says in response is the theme of the whole episode:
"You give people a choice. That's your third option. And she's made hers."
Conclusion
I'm so ready for this show to end. In both a "I wanna see where this is going" and a "if I have to look at one more discourse I'm gonna explode" kind of way. I'm excited for next week though, which is at least better than the last.
Final Ranking: 8/10

Honestly the rwby fandom is so biphobic that I’m afraid to Headcanon Robert Sinclair as bisexual. Sorry just needed to get that off my chest.
i had to google who this was because i never watched genlock but yeah it fits for the crossover in the fandoms between rt's ips. i don't know whether he's been confirmed as anything but it's a common idea in fandoms all over the place, not just in rwby / genlock, that the moment a character shows same sex attraction they can only be attracted to that, they can only be gay / lesbian & i'm like ... why? why are you regarding bisexuality as some form of lesser queerness or those shitty little headcanons where it's like "if they're not gay / lesbian, they're *at least* bisexual—" like shut up.
you're not being an ally, you're not making your bisexual friends or followers feel safe. you're being biphobic, fndm.

“Maybe this will keep that big mouth of yours shut.” fake Sinclair?
This request has been sitting in my inbox for probably two years now and I finally had a good chance to use it on a Whumptober drabble. Enjoy!
Warnings for: Violence, Torture
Title: Skinwalker
“Maybe this will keep that big mouth of yours shut,” the manhissed with a sibilant grin as he placed his knee onto the chair, right besideSinclair’s hip, and leaned over him as he reached up somewhere above Sinclair’shead, “You should be thankful we have technology that can do this job. It’sslow, but it’s definitely better than me skinning your face off and turning itinto a mask, right?”
Sinclair didn’t respond. His hoarse throat continued to cling to that onescream he had left in his lungs as his body flailed and fought against theknife pinning him down to the dentist chair he had been woken up in.
The man pulled a mobile-like metal device forward overhead, and then from the metal tools and gadgets in it, he selected a round, hollowdevice that would curve perfectly over anyone’s face. He smirked as he took outanother small blade, it was barely bigger than a palette knife, and let themask-device hover in the air as he pressed down on the restrained man’sshoulder and dragged the sharp edge along his throat.
“Haha, I bet that would be fun, wouldn’t it? We’ll have totry it sometime. Maybe if this fails, they’ll let me just do that. Now, makesure you smile nice and wide when wearing this,” he said. He wasnow straddling Sinclair in the chair, crawling up him as he brought the downharder so while it was still dancing along his exposed skin, he sliced littlerivulets open that dripped down and pooled in his collarbone, “I want to makesure when I steal gen:LOCK and kill the rest of the recruits, I look my bestafter all. Or should I say… we’ll look our best. Right, Robert?”
He ran the knife along Sinclair’s chin, grazing itunderneath his lips. He dropped the blade onto him and gripped his face roughlywhen he wouldn’t stop screaming.
“I said I want to see you smile,” the Union officergrinned wildly as his free hand reached behind him and yanked the mask towardshim, “You’re going to be wearing this for a long time. It’s best if youenjoy it.”
The knife slid off Sinclair’s face as the mask was fittedover it, and something within the face-like cast of the metal forced itselfbetween his teeth as the metal closed around his ears, sealing in his eyes, nose, and air. For a moment, Sinclair was silent, shutting his eyes as he triedto breathe and take in the darkness while machines began to whirr faintly inthe background.
Briefly, some rationality came back to his thoughts.
They said you were an important person. You were vital tothis new program. They wouldn’t let you die that easily. They’ll come get you.You just have to survive this and-
“I can’t wait to wear your smile,” the man whispered, and Sinclair felt the knife slide from his neck to his left shoulder, “I’llmake sure it’s nice and big when they take my picture and label you across alltheir systems as a traitor.”
The man watched Sinclair’s fingers twitch lightly againstthe chair. He couldn’t speak from behind the mask. The man sighed.
How boring.
He tapped some controls on his rusty, electronic watch, andthe scanner flared to life, “Well, we’ve only got a few hours of fun left. Don’tworry, I’ll keep you entertained.”
The knife went cleanly through Sinclair’s shoulder. The manbrandished several more along his belt.
“We’ve got just as good regenerative tech as the Polity, butlike everything outdated here, it’s terribly slow. Let’s hope you’ve got theguts to handle it.”
Another knife glistened in the low, green light of themakeshift operating room. It came down and the light was drowned out as it swamin blood.
End

Gen:lock Idea
Just an idea that won't go away until I write it down. Not the best but here it goes.
This is an AU where somehow before Weller could bring is idea to Holcroft and the Polity he got captured by the Union. And everyone being younger as well. When finding his Gen:lock work, the Union found it interesting and made sure to weaponize it.
Since Gen:lock relied on the neurons of a young body the Union made sure to include children in the recruitment list. Which lead him to find everybody (including Leon) easier.
- Chase and team would be the range of 10 to let teen. Not even at their 20's.
Then came the experimenting, this leading to Chase's and Leon's physical problems. But eventually leading up to the children being able to fight (excluding Cammie, she is still too young even by Union standard)
When the Union was planning to finally attack New York, Weller knew he needed to get everybody out of there. The was no doubt that the Union would put even greater pressure to get Gen:lock field ready no matter what happened at the battle in New York. And Weller could no longer see his kids be suffer for progress of what was once his dream turned nightmare.
He was finally able to contact the Polity, and basically held himself hostage when they only wanted to retrieve him alone. But he would never leave his kids.
The day before the Battle of New York, Polity soldiers waited outside of some of the exits of the research facility. Waiting for their objectives to arrive.
Dr. Weller prepares his kids to be separated. The talks to them about the Polity and reassuring that they will meet again, somewhere where it was safe.
The kids are split like so:
- Valentina, Kazu, and Cammie
- Yaz and Chase
- Weller, Leon, and Sinclair
Valentina and Kazu make an excuse to leave the building, while Cammie is screaming and crying about a nightmare, to calm Cammie.
Yaz and Chase sneak out from the sleep guards.
Weller and and the rest just says he needs to check something and bam everyone is out.
It's only when they are running across the field does the Union finally realize their attempt to escape. They give chase only to find three hovercraft getting air and flying away.
That's all I have so far, but my brain wants to finish but I can't and I am not a writer by any means but this just wouldn't get out of my head. But I feel better now.

Rooster Teeth Championship DOUBLES ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to some rifts in the space time continuum, and some lazy writing, the characters of the RWBY, Gen:Lock, and Red vs Blue now face their greatest foes....THEMSELVES!!!!!!! Each genre is taking it in their own stride. Gen:lock and RVB aren’t exactly happy with the idea and Ruby has gone a bit insane at someone new trying to get her snack stash.  Ruby1: * Whirlwinds in with raining rose petals* Ruby2: Finally! Someone who truly knows me! Ruby1: I know where your snacks are hidden. Ruby2: *Twirls scythe* THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!!!! Caboose1: *Enters loading flowers into Freckles* Caboose2: You can’t be me, I’m me!  Caboose1: Well that’s good to hear because I’m you not me.  Caboose1: *Pulls out notepad* *Mumbling noises* Okay, the math checks out on that. Nemesis1: *Nanotech cloud appears and forms Nemesis* Nemesis2: You’re a copy.. Nemesis1: NO! YOU ARE THE COPY!  Nemesis2:  *Starts twitching rapidly* KILL THE COPY!!!!!!!! Nora1: *Smashes through nearby wall with hammer* Nora2: I am okay with this so long as you do not touch my pancakes.  Nora1: You’re not talking about the huge stack that I ate in the Kitchen before coming out here are you? Nora2: *Smashes fists together* You monster!  Sarge1: *Walks in loading shotgun* Sarge2: I don’t know who you are, but I’ll be wanting that shotgun.  Sarge1: While I admire your shade of red, you’ll have to pry this shotgun from my cold red hands! Sarge2: *Pulls out shotgun* I refuse to accept a world where someone else also has a shotgun!  Yasamin1: *Walks in cracking neck* Yasamin2: Is this Cammie’s idea of a joke?  Yasamin1: If it is I’m going to force her to watch Wall-e again. Yasamin2: *Takes fighting stance* I feel terrible on how much I enjoy watching her break down when the robot gets crushed at the end.  Ren1: *Guns firing through window with Ren crashing through it* Ren2: Are you someone of logic as well?  Ren1: If I am you from another universe then you already have your answer.  Ren2: *Pulls weapons from behind him* Then you will understand why I need to beat you.  Felix1: *Twirls knife between fingers* Felix2: If this is another for that “true warrior” crap I’m going to stab someone.  Felix1: I’ll save you some time and tell you that I am the true warrior.  Felix2: *Draws pistol and knife*    We both know how full of shit that is so let’s just skip to the part were we start stabbing each other.  Julian1: *Hologram appears* Julian2: Oh god, not again.  Julian1: It’s alright, I’m not another copy of you.  Julian2: *Hologram flickers* That’s exactly what a copy would say.  Roman1: *Slow walks in twirling cane* Roman2: This town isn’t big enough for two master criminals.  Roman1: Now I know you can’t be me, I’d never be so cheesy with my threats.  Roman2: *Points cane with gun cap opening* Rube, but I’ll forgive you since I love your taste in hats.  Grif1: *Walks in, scratch his balls* Grif2: Don’t freak out, I’m you from the future and I need to beat you up.  Grif1: God damnit! I thought I was finished with this time traveling bullshit.  Grif2: Dude, when are we not involved in some crazy ass misadventure?  US1: *Enters with coin flipping* US2: So the union sent me some backup? US1: If you consider your replacement for fucking up so badly, then yes.  US1:  *Coin flips into air and transforms into nanotech* I am not some dog they can put down whenever they feel like it!  Ruby1: * Whirlwinds in with raining rose petals* Ruby2: I feel like we got off on the wrong foot, here have a cookie.   Ruby1: *Takes cookie* Why that is so nice of y- *Takes a bite of cookie then has dramatic close up as she stops chewing* Ruby2: *Twirls scythe* Raisin cookie that is, Caboose sends his regards.  Lopez1: *Walks in attaching his head to his body* Lopez2: *In spanish* Oh joy, Sarge found another robot kit.  Lopez1: *In spanish* Why do you sound so upset? Lopez2:  *Pulls out plasma grenade* Because the last Lopez I met stole a kick ass robot body from me and left me as a head.   Valentina1: *Removes camouflage cloak* Valentina2: Damn, I really do look good.  Valentina1: It’s like I’m looking at a mirror of perfection. Valentina2: *Draws knives* Damaging such beauty will be the hardest thing I have ever done.

Gen:Lock 2.7 Re(cap/view)
If you haven't seen my other 6 reviews literally click #darglreview in the tags and read them all because I said ALL this, review done.
I just love when my faith in a narrative is rewarded.
Some favorite lines:
"[*Gen:Lock has invaded the building*] Oh. I know those guys. Back to work." - Henry Wu
"Don't let your hubris confuse *our* end with *the* end." - Dr. Jha (girl pick up that gun)
"*Sees a man get chopped in half* Oh man well now I feel really bad." - Migas
"I've had this scar for a long time, I'm just embracing it now." - Julian Chase
The entire Val/Kazu scene
Final Ranking: 8/10
Okay I did not predict the base literally burrowing underground that sounds like incomprehensible damage to the Earth but hey everyone's dying anyway who cares.
