NIST report identifies significant privacy gaps in genomic data handling
A new National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) report on the cybersecurity of genomic data found major privacy gaps in how the data is generated, stored and shared.
The paper argues that a NIST privacy framework focusing on the uniqueness of genomic data sensitivity should be established to help organizations that aggregate the data identify regulatory gaps in how privacy is guarded…

“New World Chosen”
As the last rocket flew over the final reckoning below, those selected onboard prepared for the new world entry, and shared a final view below of the aftermath of what once was their homeland Earth. The nuclear rain had already begun, it was acomposed of burnt fuel, ash, oil and debri from the explosions, the rising charred remains of a fiery death below, and the aftermath of the fallout. The upsweep met with the hyper-currents above to generate a nuclear tornado-like effect, pelting the interplanetary spacecraft with softball to basketball size chunks of nuclear discharge, creating extreme turbulence as the space-bound craft shook violently to climb above the chaos below. The crew and its chosen onboard colonizers were experiencing the last great final act ~ the eruption between faith and fate ~ It had been predicted to occur, and they were leaving during the final fury in the midst of it all.
They had been chosen . . .
The passengers’ genomic structures had been analyzed during the nose-swab screening made available from the corporate elite under the guise of a global viral outbreak, and were to be used in the fertilization process of a new beginning, a new world civilization on a different planet. Traveling to the beyond, space-bound to a distant galaxy, their mission would be to colonize a new world with their chosen genetic profiles.
Once their spacecraft rose above and through what was left of the Earth’s thin charred atmosphere, the ride from there on would be quiet, peaceful, and dark, until they were close enough to the new world planet to recognize the marker lights of the landing site. Passengers would then be allowed to unbuckle from the shoulder-torso safety belts, and remove their headgear. The rationed pre-packaged food would be available to them from the overhead compartments, although most would choose to sit quietly, reflecting on the nuclear apocalypse they had all just witnessed below. They would be of course relieved to be alive, yet individually, each of them then embracing what each of their futures within the new world would consist of.
It would be the dawn of interplanetary travel . . .
******************** ********************
Approaching the landing site, a distant sequence of timed blinks signaled the touchdown area as the lights became visible ~ three long three second blinks on, followed by two short one second blinks, then three long three second blinks on, then repeating ~ Passengers prepared for their descent down onto their future home planet, above and far away from their apocalyptic homeland, with Earth then becoming a distant speck in the cyber-sphere . . . Still seated within the spacecraft and looking out the small eight inch oval windows, the passengers viewed the baseball sized abandoned distant Earth smoldering into obscurity . . .
******************** ********************
It was a soft landing, touching-down on the new planet, a reddish to brown barren landscape with still black skies above. A few circular shaped silver reflected living pods were visible, alongside them were a couple of mobile rovers. Inside the craft, the green lights came on, signaling the passengers to unbuckle and gather their gear.
The passengers then lined up in a signal-file, one by one with each one stepping down off the craft ladder ~ with everything they owned and would need, strapped onto their backsides ~ onto the solid ground of a new world planet.
It was then time for those “chosen” . . . the “new world colonizers” . . . to embrace their new world homeland.
****************** *******************
Standing on the solid material of a new planet ~ after their eighty-eight day breakaway from the distant abandoned apocalyptic Earth far below ~ the crew and passengers helped each other to remove their headgear while taking in their first breaths of manufactured clean oxygen being pumped and circulated within a bio-terrarium that encased the new planet like a bubble. A result of the research from the “Moxie” blueprints, where carbon dioxide is split into carbon monoxide to make oxygen.
Surveying the landscape, they saw the construction of other colonies ongoing in every direction around them. Mobile hover-crafts loaded with building supplies and people zipped by overhead while the lunar-rovers that were left over from the early exploration programs traveled along the reddish-brown dusty planet drilling soil samples and photographing the activity going on, documenting everything.
They had been chosen . . .
The eighty passengers who had arrived had been selected from the extensive nose-swab screening procedures during the global outbreak, collecting and analyzing their genomic structures for the new world colonization. They were part of a much larger cross-section of human genetic specimens that had been specifically chosen for the purpose of re-generation, and the fertilization of a perfect new world order.
Their journey into the new frontier of outer space, known as “the beyond”, had provided them a new life on a new world planet, where they would settle and build the new world colonies. Their specific individual genomal structures would then allow for the fertilization and reproduction of a new world generation, not consummated on Earth.
******************** ********************
The day would then come in the new world’s future, when a young generation of new “star-gazers”, looking up into the night sky, might again ponder the existence of life somewhere else out there in space, on a distant planet . . .
Asking the question “are we alone out here” ?
End ~

This just in, starfish are a radially symmetrical head with a stomach.
God I love echinoderms
If you told someone that there’s an entire group of animals that develop butt first as embryos are born bilateral but then grow a radially symmetrical head like a cancer in their side that then bursts out and lives as a completely separate organism from its birth form and moves via hydraulic systems…
They wouldn’t believe you. Yet one of the most beloved cartoon characters is one of them.

Babies and kids DNA taken by NHS to be processed to check diseases
The NHS will be able to diagnose and potentially save the lives of thousands of severely ill children and babies — within days rather than weeks — with a world-first national genetic testing service launching today.
Announcing the groundbreaking new service at the first-ever NHS genomics conference in England, NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard hailed it as the start of a “new era of genomic…

A Single Cell Analysis Can Also Be Used By Pharmaceutical Businesses To Quantify Medication Content.
Single Cell Analysis
The study of a living organism's transcriptomic, genomic, metabolomic, and proteomic components at the single-cell level is known as single-cell analysis. The human genome can be measured, analysed, and sequenced with the use of Single Cell Analysis. Single-cell analysis in clinical diagnostics is anticipated to standardise and automate workflows with significant data for on-going cancer monitoring and eventually novel therapy approaches for patients.Pharmaceutical firms use single-cell analysis for medication development and discovery. The examination will show how the treatment affects DNA and protein levels, assisting in the pre-clinical development of the medication.
The high throughput findings and imaging capabilities of the single cell analysis system aid in the visualisation of individual cells. Pharmaceutical businesses also quantify the medication content using Single Cell Analysis techniques. Understanding different immobilising mechanisms is aided by this. Single cell analysis systems are required for a number of ongoing studies. The single cell analysis technology aids in the detection and analysis of infectious illnesses and food-borne pathogens.A new method called single cell analysis makes it possible to sequence the whole human genome at the level of a single cell. In particular, with its sensitivity increased to single cell level, this covers genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics.

Not sure if it'd be canon, but i like to think of the modern au as reincarnation.
That no matter what Machete and Vasco go through in the main story, they get another chance to live their lives without all the tension and politics.
A happily ever after, a brand new adventure, free from their old narrative. Together.
