the secret of the Ghost MV!! is all in the rings!!! Smooth ring = military Jeff Wire ring = clone/alien Jeff (aka soft Jeff)

So we start with Pretty Lady watching the rocket blast away, taking off the smooth ring and putting it on a wedding picture of her and jeff (military jeff), and looking down through the window at soft jeff.

Then in a series of flashbacks we see a happy wedding with smooth rings. This is Pretty Lady and Military jeff's wedding. Then we have flashes of blindfolded jeff going up to meet her in the bedroom. I believe this is also military jeff. Wedding night maybe?

Switch to present - we see soft jeff making a wire ring, then proposing with the wire ring. She plays the blindfold game again but this time the Pretty Lady's surprise is calling back military jeff, we see her taking off the wire ring, putting back on the smooth ring and then we see military jeff's matching one.

We see confrontation between military jeff and soft jeff, and that the pretty lady is taking notes in the background, because she's in on it.

So the timeline looks something like this:

military jeff and pretty lady are in love and get married

clone/alien jeff comes into their life, takes military jeff's form in some way

military jeff leaves soft jeff with the pretty lady For Science, to see how much like military jeff this clone/alien/soft jeff is.

the answer is Very Similar Probably, because he also falls for jeff's Pretty Lady

Pretty Lady ends that part of the experiment and calls back her husband

Military jeff manhandles soft jeff and goes 'haha nerd, she's mine'

soft jeff makes extremely sad eyes

Pretty Lady decides she has a heart, and probably even loved soft jeff too, helps him escape.

soft jeff rides off into the sunset

it all makes perfect sense 😅

Ghost MV Fic

The clone was missing. 

It didn’t escape on its own, that much was clear from the start. It couldn’t have. Wouldn’t have. No, someone set it free.

No, someone set it free. 

Any doubt in his mind evaporated when he turned away from the empty room to find his wife unwilling to meet his eyes. Guilty. 

“Are you angry with me?” she asked, confirming his suspicions. When he didn’t answer, she continued, “I couldn’t bear to see you hurt. You must understand that. He—he was you. I couldn’t just stand back and watch, anymore than if it had been you in—”

“I’m not angry,” he said, and drew her into his arms, where she belonged. Only days returned to Earth and he wasn’t used to the gravity yet. To the weight of her against his body. He held her close and breathed in the familiar scent of her perfume. Jasmine. Home. “Of course I’m not, darling.” 

“You’re not?” 

He ran a hand through her hair, settled it on the back of her head, pressed her into him. Oh how he’d missed this, lost among the stars for nearly two endless years. It still felt like a dream. 

“I created it for you.” He wanted her to have some small piece of him while he was away. He couldn’t bear the thought of her alone. But he was home, now; the clone had served its purpose. “This makes things easier.”

“You’re not going to try to find him, then?”

“The others will.” Of course they would, it was a priceless experiment on the run, and they wouldn't want to risk the technology falling into anyone's hands. But he wouldn’t be helping them. He didn’t want it back. 

“Will you create another one?”

“... No.” Would the others? Possibly. They may even have enough of his DNA to make another replica of him. Perhaps they would find someone else to serve as the matrix around which they would create another life. Either way, he would have no part in it.

Hear me out re: the Ghost MV.

The whole came back from war wrong thing is so tasty, but take it a step into sci-fi territory. Say Original Flavor Jeff is still in space and soldier!Jeff is also a clone.

Wife wouldn't know, she was anticipating OF's return, but we don't actually see anything to confirm he's back from space. Maybe it's a one-way mission and he doesn't have the heart to tell her. Maybe the military bigwigs know it's a one-way trip but he doesn't. Either way, the farmboy clone is OF's companion gift to his wife, but somewhere after OF blasts off it becomes an experiment with the soldier clone in charge. Observing everything. Learning, to an extent, who he's supposed to become when he "returns".

It doesn't go as planned, ofc. Like, enough time has passed that Wife's memories of OF are kinda fuzzy, and maybe they didn't know each other all that well to start. And she repeated specific memories of OF with farmboy clone (like the blindfold), maybe because that was also part of the experiment, but now the memories are blurred together and she can never quite tell if she's comparing soldier clone to farmboy or the original.

And little niggling things are wrong. Soldier adopts some mannerism that was farmboy's but not the original's. He'll occasionally betray too much knowledge of current events that happened while he was supposed to be in space. His body feels the same against hers and that's a relief until she remembers that space should have physiologically left its marks on him. It's wrong that he feels so familiar.

So, like.

I was trying to use my limited vocabulary to describe the tone of ghost. And I was having trouble until it hit me.

It's a decisive song. Like, lyrically we've heard fade (where he both tells them to fade but also that he'll never be okay), lucid (where he enjoys the time he has but knows it will end), stranger (where he accepts they are over but also wants just a lil more time), complicated (much like fade, he's arguing within himself in the song), dum dum (where he knows its unhealthy and wrong but still he's gonna find happiness) and so on

But this one is decisive, all lyrics are pointing to finality, to good bye, to making a decision fully with no regrets

And it's not necessarily the hollowness that comes after a painful realization, it is simply a fully informed decision

Okay, so here's my interpretation of the mv

Jeff left his wife with a clone version of himself to observe his weird science experiment then came back to do some explicit testing on it.

This scene makes me think that she was also a scientist or at least in some way involved in evil Jeff's clone experiment. And probably agreed to stay and observe oblivious Clone Jeff.

Also I had the theory that left was the wedding with evil scientist jeff and right was the 2nd wedding with Clone Jeff. But I'm not too sure about it because the costumes are same.

My theory was based on this scene 👇 but now that I've watched this mv like 1037 times I feel like it can be interpreted both way.

Like she's giving Clone jeff up because of her loyalty to evil jeff (left) or that she feels guilty for the decision she's making and her mistake is glaring at her(right).

My friends are filthy fucking enablers, so writing fic for an MV that’s been out for a whole 9 hours is something I do now:

There’s a sick glee in the Officer’s eyes as he smiles, brushing his fingers down his creation’s cheek. A perfect replica, he thinks. The Clone doesn’t agree.

You’re everything I was supposed to be, the Clone thinks, flinching away from the deceptively kind touch. It feels the same as when he pets his horse; a beloved pet. A possession. I’m everything you could have been.
