SFW Giacomo: Our Time Apart

He had received the notice about someone wanting to raid them, destroy Team Star. He didn’t want to believe it when he heard the name. Surely it was someone else with the same name. You had gone abroad and he doubted he’d be seeing you anytime soon.

When the sirens blared he felt a spike in anxiety at the thought that it could be you, but he pushed it aside. There was simply no way.

Oh he was wrong.

Very wrong.

When he came out on his Segin Starmobile, his jaw dropped. He watched as you walked out to the field, the shock on your face was apparent.

“Gia?” You managed to shout out, not thinking that he, of all people, would be a member of Team Star. Sure you thought it was weird he didn’t go to school anymore, or that Nemona was now the Student Council president…but this was next level.

Giacomo murmured your name under his breath, before shouting, “W-what are you doing here?” 

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking that? Bro…the fuck?” You asked, looking at the giant pokemon he now rode. Giacomo sighed as he shook his head. He felt his heart beating so fast, he had to will his face not to go red under your gaze. It would appear he wasn’t over that crush on you, yet.

“I’m the leader of the Segin Squad.” Giacomo said as he crossed his arms. You felt a bit bad for what you had to do, but you did promise Cassiopeia that you would do this.

“Well then…guess we’re gonna have to battle, aren’t we?” You said, already grabbing one of your partner pokemon.

“I guess we will.” Giacomo said as he readied himself. If he recalled correctly, you were an exceptional trainer. This wouldn’t be easier, especially with how fast you cleared the base.

“I do have one question…” You said, stopping Giacomo, “A reward if I beat you.”

“What reward are you talking about?” Giacomo said and you smirked.

“Easy, if I beat you, I’m dragging you to the nearest town to grab a coffee. Now ready yourself, I won’t go down easy.” And with that, you left Giacomo overly flustered, debating just throwing the entire match.

Bullied! Reader x Giacomo Headcanons

I saw one of these, couldn't stop myself! Might also be drawing Gia in the school uniform but you can't prove anything

Warnings: spoilers, mentions of bullying, probably OoC, no beta, not necessarily canon compliant

Notes: set ~1.5 years before the main story, I've been feeling Very Bad™ the last few days, so it's kinda disjointed I think

It's ALSO not uncommon for the teachers to ignore it

You yourself had seen it happen..

Popular people like Eri beaten down as someone new came by

Ortega getting bullied for his family's wealth, how "easy" he must have it

Mela for her attitude

Atticus for his obsession with ninjas, as well as his craftsmanship

And Giacomo for his interest in music

Books slapped out of hands, items swiped off desks

Name calling and harassment followed you wherever you went

But you weren't the only one

You were approached with the idea of Operation Star by Eri one day, after a bad bout of bullying

Of course, you were all too eager to accept

It wouldn't have done you any good to turn it down

And besides, who doesn't want to get back at their bullies?

So, you were in

All set!

You met Giacomo at the execution of Operation Star: the pushback against the bullies of the Academy

He just laughed when he saw you with Eri, offering you a grin and a hand

He pulled you onto his Starmobile before turning his attention back to the plan

Glancing towards you every once in a while as the cowards fled the area

The operation didn't take too long, and the newly minted Team Star rolled out into the night

It didn't take any convincing for you to join Segin Squad

Giacomo welcomed you with open arms

While Eri sat laughing at how obvious he was being

He asked you to help him run the squad

Help train newbies

Recruit other people you'd seen get bullied

And go on supply runs into Cascarrafa out of uniform

Whenever the squad bosses had to meet up on their own, he trusted that you'd keep the base running in his stead

All in all, a great relationship built on trust even before a confession

He shared his love for music with you, having you rate new tunes before he showed them to anyone else

Wasn't hard, with you by his side almost all the time

In turn, he'd listen to your interests, lending an ear and some praise

Giacomo definitely confessed first

He'd been hiding a new song from you for a few days, saying he wanted to perfect it instead of letting you listen to the WIP

Not too incredibly surprising, but he was putting a lot of effort into making sure you couldn't hear it

The grunts outside his tent alerted him every time you came over, instead of parting to let you pass

He snapped his laptop shut every time you came near him

AND he wouldn't let you scroll through his playlists!!

At all!!!

After about two weeks of this, he had another of the grunts find you and direct you to his tent

He almost sheepishly handed you his headphones, making sure they were settled on your head before he pressed play

The intro started similarly to the Team Star theme, then dropped

(IDK the specifics of music or it's making, so. Bare with me please)

He made sure to include similar structure and rhythms to ones you had pointed out in his other work

At the end of it, instead of an encore, his voice sounded from the headphones

"Y/n, I've been meaning to tell you for a while, but.. I like you. As more than a friend or right-hand man. Would you be willing to be my partner?"

You took off the headphones, smiling at him

And that was all the answer he needed

Atticus called it puppy love, while Eri just laughed and said you would've told her if you had been dating

So here’s the latest update of this little series on my blog where I assign official voice actors to characters that don’t have them. I also did this with the previous title, Legends: Arceus.

I have to reiterate the same points every time, but it’s just so we’re all aware -

Team Star S/O Headcanons

Except for Ortega, cause if I remember correctly it was stated he’s the youngest, and he looks like a kid soooo

Giacomo

Probably jokingly asked you out and was surprised as hell to get a yes

He’s not complaining though

Oh, he so asks you to record songs with him and writes lyrics about you

Loves to flex that you two are dating

Gets the stupidest grin whenever you two do something remotely romantic, even if it’s just holding hands

Mela

It took her a million years to figure out she liked you

Probably walked up to you and just asked “wanna go on a date with me” “sure” “wait what”

One of the sweetest people behind her intimidating demeanour

She gets all flushed super easily

If anyone upsets you, she will be pissed and will track that person down, refusing to hear any voice of reason

Atticus

You were friends, but he was pining for you from afar, and was constantly teased by the others for his obvious crush

Eventually someone (Probably Mela) had enough of it and shoved him over to you to confess

He tried to stay calm, but kept fumbling over his words

Eventually, you were the one who asked him out

He loves to design clothes for you!

You are one of the very few people he will take his hood down for

Eri

She realized she had feelings for you very early on

It took her multiple tries to confess to you, as she kept getting more and more flustered with every attempt

She eventually managed

She loves to hold you

Like, just hug you

She tries to be gentle while hugging you, so she doesn’t fucking crush your bones cause god damn, she could do that

Similar to Mela, if anyone upsets you, she won’t hesitate to pick a fight

More Team Star headcanons that I’ve been thinking abt recently

Giacomo really took advantage of the STCs, perhaps more than anyone else in Team Star. The audience and academy permission really brought out the event-planner in him, so he often runs open-invite socials for the academy at the various STCs— always DJd by him, of course!

Mela has a lot of anger issues to deal with, but her favorite way of letting loose is to invite her friends to go egg throwing with her. She goes to the supermarket to buy the cheapest eggs she can find, hikes into the woods, and lobs the eggs at trees while ranting her frustrations. It's a non-destructive stress reliever and a good bonding exercise

Atticus would tear shit UP at a Renn Faire. He brings all his friends there and asks them to be in character, and they actually end up having a lot of fun! Atticus is absolutely THRILLED that people are engaging in his interests, and seeing all the admins inspires more team star members to join them. Now Atticus, Youssef, and a handful of grunts travel to different renn faires and historical conventions to geek out about stuff

Ortega and Tyme have a borderline rivalry because Ortega is really good at math but he's also a little shit. He absolutely antagonizes Tyme because he kinda wants to find this kind old woman's limit. He's gettin Real Close, but she will not crack under the pressure. He may be the world's most annoying 12 year old-- but she grew up with a sister

Eri began a yearly tradition called the Caph Caterwaul where for one day during finals week, everyone in Team Star (and the academy if they so choose) takes a hike into the mountains to scream at the top of their lungs for one minute at the stroke of midnight. The teachers found out about it and HAPPILY joined in the opportunity to scream into the night on company time

Penny, by virtue of being a cybersecurity expert, has a fursona. Team Star found out. Now THEY have fursonas. Taking suggestions as to what they would be bc i'm not sure atm

Hope it’s okay I made a team for the reader, as mentioned before I love doing so ^^

You took over the team after Penny disappeared btw, before that you were a boss like the others.

 Giacomo

-          Giacomo is a pretty chill guy, so while I think he’s sad that Penny left he’s happy you stepped up and took over. He has most likely looked up to you for a while since you were such a strong trainer and a good person.

-          Your Munna and Meowstic love him, if you can’t find the two its cuz they’re with Giacomo again. Your Munna especially loves to listen to Giacomo’s music.

-          He makes you a special team boss mixtape, like your own theme song for battle. He thinks that since you’re the boss you need a cool theme to go along with it, even if you were kinda flustered when he first gifted it to you.

-          You and Giacomo hang out when you just need a break, be it going for walks or going to one of your places to watch movies or listen to music.

 Mela

-          Mela in the beginning wouldn’t want you to become the new leader since she still hopes Penny will come back, but when she sees how great you are at being the leader and that Penny isn’t coming back, so accepts it and backs you up 100%

-          Your Bronzong loves to hang around Mela for some reason. In the beginning she tries to make the pokemon leave since the large cuddly pokemon takes away from her tough appearance.

-          After your Bronzong completely wipes the floor with some bullies though, she accepts its presence and is worried when it doesn’t show up.

-          Shes shy about showing her true personality most of the time but she is open to you and your friends, and Mela finds comfort in spending time with you because she can be herself.

-          You inspire her to want to get stronger since you are strong enough to become team stars leader, so you are someone she sees as a close friend but also someone to look up to.

 Atticus

-          Atticus was most likely the one to suggest you become the new leader of the team after Penny disappears, seeing as you are a powerful and noble fighter with strong morals in his eyes.

-          He would create a cool outfit that would fit your role as leader of team star and a psychic trainer, and he is very proud to see you in it for the first time, he especially likes to see it in battle.

-          He would even go as far as to create matching outfits for your pokemon, Gothorita would especially love the outfits and since that pokemon is the one your seen most with, it has many multiple outfits to match yours.

-          Atticus doesn’t feel scared to be himself and speak about his interests around you, as he doesn’t feel like you will judge him for the way he speaks or carries himself, it helps boost his confidence and make him a stronger person.

-          You motivate him to be himself and not let others’ opinions of him bother him too much, and he is happy with his decision to offer you up as the next leader of team star.

 Ortega

-          Ortega isn’t sure about making you the next leader of team star, but his opinion quickly changes when he sees how you are able to support everyone and make them feel more motivated and sure of themselves.

-          He would build you your own starmobile that would match your use of psychic types, using colors and shapes to make it something that truly fits you as a person.

-          Ortega would be bummed out when he has to go to piano lessons and stuff like that, but you always step in and take over for him when he has to leave and write up a report on the happenings during his time away, just to make him feel better.

-          Your Gothorita and Girafarig would love Ortega, always coming out of their pokeballs to greet him and play with his pokemon, you both use the excuse of your pokemon being good friends to hang out some more between duties as leader of the team and a team boss.

 Eri

-          Eri was at first against you becoming the new leader of team star since she hoped Penny would come back, but when she sees how you take care of everyone and do your best she relents and decides to support you as much as possible.

-          Like the others she helped you train your pokemon to be stronger, and she’s proud when your team becomes stronger than her own. She’s also the one who helped you evolve your Ralts into a Gallade, so the pokemon likes to spend time with Eri.

-          She always makes sure you are taking care of yourself and not pushing yourself too hard, since she knows being the leader is hard work. She doesn’t want you to burn yourself out, its also because she fears to some extent that you will leave too.

-          Eri would bring you lunches and snacks for your pokemon every now and then, just so you two could take a break together away from all the hard work as leader and boss. She still works very hard to protect the team, but she also makes sure to protect you, even if its from yourself as times.

Eri - She's the one running around the house with them, keeping up with their energy while also keeping them from hurting themselves.

Team Star's Bullying: Reimagined

So I finished SV and while I LOVE Team Star, their backstories were lacking IMO. Bullying playing a huge role in how they became friends was a great idea, because it’s so relatable! But the game’s reasons for them being targeted basically amounted to “they were bullied because THEY WERE TOO COOL 😎” which was hard to take seriously...

SO I wrote my own ideas for why each Team Star member was targeted at the academy! Enjoy-

Canonically, Mela was bullied for…being too cute? I’ll expand on that. 

Mela is a very pretty girl, even without any makeup. Her natural beauty and (at the time) soft demeanor caught the negative attention of a clique of girls, and they pretended to be her friends. 

Mela eventually told them that she was actually bisexual (having a preference for girls), thinking she was in safe company. The clique IMMEDIATELY spread this private info around in a negative light, claiming that Mela pushed herself on one of the girls. Mela got in trouble and she felt complete betrayal and heartbreak over the actions of her so-called “friends”, who had just wanted dirt on her. 

The bullying and gossip that resulted from this situation caused Mela to completely close down, steel her heart, and keep others at arms-length with fiery threats and emotional glares. She underwent a complete transformation in order to protect herself from being hurt again.

Giacomo actually used to be somewhat of a bully himself, in an attempt to fit in with the other students. He would taunt and goad others to impress his shitty ex-friends. 

He ended up becoming the scapegoat when one of the bullying victims had a breakdown, and all of his friends pinned the blame on him when the teachers interrogated them. After this, he was quickly shunned at the academy and was surrounded by rumors and gossip. 

Experiencing the effects of bullying firsthand made Giacomo realize what an asshole he'd been, and that his old 'friends' weren't so cool after all. He still feels immense guilt for the things he did in the past, and works to make up for it by being overly protective of Team Star. 

Seriously, he will NOT hesitate to throw fists. He will beat someone up in a denny's parking lot just for them.

Ortega is, obviously, on the feminine side and very short. (which is apparently a huge deal for men…) He quickly became a target for being "girly", short, not masculine enough, and rumors that he was gay spread like wildfire. Ortega's love of fancy outfits only added fuel to the fire. 

This made him extremely self-conscious about his identity and his appearance, and caused him to develop a short temper around others. Despite his fuse and tendency to lash out verbally, Ortega doesn’t actually like initiating physical fights; they make him anxious and scared from past experiences. He relies on his silver tongue to shut down jerks.

Ortega often bottles up his emotions and puts on a smug facade, because he believes he has no right to complain or feel upset, considering his wealthy upbringing. While Ortega still has a bratty attitude with the rest of Team Star, he's much softer around them and cares about them….though he’s too embarrassed to admit it.

Eri's bullying involved her body. Society is incredibly harsh on girls who don't fit the "mold", so to speak. Girls are expected to be short, soft and skinny, otherwise you're immediately outcast. Eri, being big-boned and much taller and more muscular than most girls, was the target of many vulgar and gross comments.

Eri, despite what others thought, DID take these insults to heart. She had always been a caring, motherly person, and was sad to see that this is what others thought of her behind her back. She dealt with these feelings through Pokemon battling and training herself until she was too tired to think.

Despite her intimidating aura/stature, Eri does not like to participate in violence unless absolutely necessary. She knows her own strength, and doesn’t like hurting others. She will not be taunted into a fistfight by some random student, as she KNOWS they’re goading her. However, if someone lays a hand on one of her friends, she will not hesitate to fling them into a wall.

Atticus was always an odd person who stood out. His interests were unique, even as a child. Being neurodivergent, the way he expressed himself and communicated was different. Having a love for art and fashion, Atticus was drawn to the more unique and unsettling themes in the industry. He loved to wear makeup considered "creepy" and wear outlandish, fantasy-like outfits. 

He was immediately known as "the weirdo/freak" and was avoided, amongst rumors that he acted creepy towards other students and claims that he followed people around like a stalker. None of which was true, but still resulted in Atticus being alone. He didn't particularly mind…really.

Much like Ortega, Atticus dislikes physical fights. He knows his limits and capabilities. Why bother punching someone when you could recite poems on how pathetic and slimy they are? Or point out how ugly their haircut is?

Team Star Headcanons!

Everyone put their spare dorm key on a differently coloured lanyard and the keys get traded around a lot.

Penny's room is (somehow) not the messiest. that award goes to Atticus where only he can navigate the room without stepping on sewing pins or sliding on fabric.

Mela gives a lot of her art projects to her friends.

Ortega, Giacomo, and Atticus are a dangerous combination as they all will (and have) stay up all night working on projects. They don't stop each other either.

Mela and Giacomo take general studies, Atticus and Eri take humanities, and Penny and Ortega take STEM.

Giacomo glanced over towards you, still standing by his tent. He knew the look on your face. Still keeping calm in the face of this.. even if it was tearing you apart inside. You had worn the same tense look when Operation Star was first executed, the rest of the team members staying calm as you analyzed the rapid changes to your lifestyle.

It was one of the things he loved most about you. Not that there was anything he liked least, but your level-headedness was a blessing to him and the rest of the team.

He returned his attention to the new kid, and the next few minutes went by quickly for the both of you as he congratulated them.

"Y/N?"

He smiled as you returned your attention to him, the other trainer now gone.

"We've gotta go."

Larry’s son, Giacomo!

I saw this headcanon the other day that Giacomo was Larry’s son, and that Larry not only has to worry about 3 jobs, but also why his son turned from Student Council President to a Team Star delinquent.

I don’t see too much resemblance (eyebrows maybe? Or perhaps some adopted family vibes?) but I like this headcanon regardless! Need more excuse to make Larry content haha. Plus, Giacomo is probably my second favorite character from Scarlet and Violet, so yknow.

There isn’t any hatred between the two, Giacomo wouldn’t be the “I hate you dad!” type of rebel, he’s a sweet kid at heart. But there is a lot of concern and misunderstandings between them.

I sit crisscross on the king bed making a lazy raspberry sound as I flip through the pages of Watchmen. Graphic novels aren’t what I usually read but I got desperate after finishing the whole shelf of books in the study. I’ve read everything from classics like Jane Eyre to new releases like Iron Widow. After that I asked Levi for a recommendation and he immediately dropped off this huge comic book. The art is good, the storyline is surprisingly relevant to society’s political landscape and the characters are interesting. But it has barely kept me from chronic boredom that comes from maternity leave or as I like to call it, maternity prison.

My little sidekick is in her eighth month of gestation and it’s pretty evident to anyone with eyes given how I look like Pluto. If Pluto had boobs and was wearing her husband’s Harvard shirt with gray sweatpants. After the New Year I told Andrew that I was ready for us to start trying to have a baby. The pandemic was over, I was caught up in my residency thanks to Webber and Andrew was finally back in the O.R. as a general surgery attending. The timing couldn’t be better and around March we found out we were pregnant and then a few months later we found out we were having a girl. There was a bump when the residency program shut down for a bit but it restarted with a new batch of interns and me being promoted to Chief Resident.

Unfortunately, that joy was short lived, I had to go on maternity leave about a few weeks later when the exhaustion kicked in at 35 weeks and I’ve been glued to the bed ever since. And to make matters worse Levi was assigned temporary Chief Resident so that was another cloud looming over my head. The only thing that keeps me somewhat sane in this bed is my husband and baby daddy coming home and detailing every step of his surgeries so I don’t become dumb. Which is why I sent an impulsive text that I’m sure will make Andrew angry at me.

I hear running out in the hall and the door bursts open revealing Andrew in his navy scrubs and blue fleece telling me he came straight here the second he got my text. He looks around worried until he finds me criss cross in the middle of the bed looking healthy as a clam despite my text saying 911. I grin at him trying to look innocent so he doesn’t get too mad at me for worrying him because I was bored and needed contact with the outside world.

“Hi honey.” I greet him normally and he looks at me in shock before confusion sets in his face and I explain, “I might have possibly fibbed in my text don’t be mad.”

“You-” Andrew groans frustrated before laying it out, “You texted me 911.”

“I know.” I take a sip of my water bottle as Andrew walks to the edge of the bed staring down at me clearly peeved.

“I came straight here from work because my very pregnant wife texted me 911 and I was afraid she was in labor or bleeding out. But instead, I find her in bed chilling and acting like she didn’t almost give me a heart attack!” I wince at the exclamation, “God Amber what is wrong that you have to scare me like that?”

“I can’t be held accountable.” Andrew scoffs at my excuse and I continue, “I can’t be held accountable for my misguided actions because your baby and me have gone insane from bed rest and boredom. Will it make you feel better if I said sorry for almost scaring you to death?”

Andrew’s face softens slightly, “Well I think the knots in your hair are punishment enough so yes.”

I look in the vanity mirror to my left and see that my normally composed blonde hair is all over the place due to laying on my pillow for 10 hours. I look back and see my husband grinning amused already past his anger and I frown at that, “Yeah that’s right laugh at your pregnant wife who has permanent bed head let’s see how that ends for you.”

I stand on my knees and crawl over to the edge to face Andrew who chuckles while I pout, “Okay in all seriousness is there a logical reason why you texted me 911 when there is nothing emergent?”

“I’m bored out of my freaking mind.” I explain bordering on yelling while Andrew is looking at me affectionately with his bright green eyes, “I’ve been at home for five weeks, five weeks, do you have any idea what that is like?!”

“I have a feeling your gonna tell me.” Andrew puts his hands on my hips to keep me steady.

I hold up Watchmen to prove my point of how bored I am, “I’ve read all the books in our shelves I always say I’m gonna finish, I tried watching Netflix but you know it just makes me miss human contact more and to top it off while I’m shackled to this bed like that lady in Gerald’s Game my husband is at work saving lives and actually making a difference because unlike me he doesn’t have a big bowling ball under his shirt. And I think the baby is bored too and she sent that text because she’s hungry for more of your surgery stories and a reminder that there’s a world outside this bed. She’s very stubborn about what she wants.”

“She takes after her mother.” Andrew quips in amused and I narrow my eyes at him causing him to chuckle, “Look I know it’s hard being cooped up in here but you heard what the OB said bedrest is important and you were reaching your limit. I had to practically carry you out of the on-call room when I found you passed out after your lap chole.” I groan at that memory because it’s when I admitted I was exhausted and ordered to go on leave until after the baby was born, “You were doing the work of eight people it’s not good for your stamina and it would’ve affected the baby too.”

“You don’t know that.” He raises an eyebrow at me and I continue, “I’m like an M1-A1, it’s a tank and it can survive anything and get the job done.” I look down at my huge belly pouting at my changing body, “I mean I’m already as big as a tank right now and my bikini days are getting narrower by the minute.”

“I never really liked bikini’s anyway.” He’s trying to console me again which he always does when I complain about how big I’m getting, “You look way better in that sweater than some tacky string.”

“Stop being nice, you know my hormones make me unpredictable.” I remind him again, “The nicer you are the more it makes me want to choke hold you.”

“In that case you look like a bloated whale.” Andrew jokes and it doesn’t amuse me at all, “Better?”

“Not in the least.” I sigh and wrap my arms around the back of Andrew’s neck and say sweetly, “Just stay here and tell me stories about life on the outside.” I run my fingers through his wavy hair to add effect but it doesn’t work. He looks enticed but he’s gotten stronger against my seductions over the years.

“I can’t, I have a surgery this afternoon.” He steps back to my disappointment, “Plus I gotta help Marsh with the skills lab for the interns while Hunt is in the ER. And as much as I want to, I can’t stay here because your bored or Grey will reprimand me. Find something to do while I’m working so the time will pass by and you won’t be so bored.”

Suddenly a light bulb goes off in my head on how I can keep myself busy, “Your right.”

He exhales in relief and turns to leave, “Thank god I’ll see you tonight, I love you.”

“Oh no I’m coming with you; you’re taking me to work.” I get off the bed, go to our closet and put a black coat over my clothes and slip into my black crocs. I can see Andrew turning to face me again with an annoyed look.

“That is not happening babe.” He tells me bluntly but I don’t listen as I grab my purse, “Okay you and the baby need to listen to me. I am not taking you two to a hospital with the germs and blood and diseases it’s not happening I’m putting my foot down.”

I widen my eyes at that and he emphasizes by crossing his arms against his chest, “I’m just gonna watch from the gallery and catch up with my friends and see if Schmitt is still alive. It’s not like I’m getting a scalpel come on man.”

Andrew stands his ground, “Nope still not happening, if you want new books order on Amazon and get express, I don’t care about the price as long as it keeps you in bed and following doctor’s orders.”

“I’m a doctor, you’re a doctor, our siblings are doctors and all of our friends are doctors. I’m pretty sure we both know what’s safe and not safe for me and the baby too.” I remind him, “A hospital is the best place for me to kill time because if I go into labor, I just have to walk five steps to a bed in OB. Please take me with you, think of it like take your daughter to work day.”

He looks at my belly and back up at me, “I think we’re a little early for that.”

“Take me with you.” I sternly command.

“No.” Andrew says with finality causing me to narrow my eyes at him as he keeps a composed face. I mimic his stance crossing my arms across my chest and glaring at him to assert dominance. Even in my condition I stand as his equal and he knows it, he knows I won’t go down without a fight so he has to do the same. We stand there silently for a few moments, me in my pajamas and him in his scrubs, waiting for one of us to budge.

Team Star Headcanons

This got dummy long so it's under the cut but I am rotating them all in my brain

Giacomo

Despite having the most stereotypical "delinquent" appearance of all the members, Giacomo is actually the closest thing to a model student that Team Star has. He's extremely organized, motivated, and actually pretty staunchly against breaking the rules unless he has to, so he's a straight A student and has never missed a class

However, he still has a little bit of apprehension about appearing to be like the uptight student council president he used to be, so he purposefully does things to make people think he's more of a slacker than he actually is. He turns in assignments after the deadline and shows up to class late so the teachers don't start getting expectations of him, but they quickly realize he's doing it on purpose when all assignments are turned in exactly 24 hours late and he shows up exactly 5 minutes after the bell with obvious consistency

He was student council president during much of the bullying of Team Star, and still beats himself up about not noticing it sooner or putting a stop to it until the consequences were right in front of him

He was and is the most uptight member of Team Star despite his seemingly relaxed demeanor. He's prone to over-planning, panicking when plans don't work out, and overall is pretty bad at improvising. He's far more high-strung than he lets on. Team Star has done a lot to mellow him out and give him the freedom to express himself, screw up without consequence, and just chill for a few. He's much happier now without the pressure

He loves bass-boosted, ear-splitting music and flashing DJ lights, but is also aware that many people have issues with those (including his buddy Atticus). Bc of that he always has a grunt check with any new members or would-be foes to make sure they don't have overstimulation or photosensitivity issues. Someone getting hurt during a rave would, in his words, "kill the vibe"

He's trying SO HARD to be lofi girl

Mela

She's naturally very cute: she has strawberry blond hair, wide blue eyes, freckles, a dainty stature, a high-pitched voice, and isn't very good at most school subjects. It makes her instantly endearing to basically everyone who meets her, but it also means many people find her annoying / frustrating off the bat and/or don't take her seriously, which really bothered her and lead to her very carefully curated Bad Girl appearance

Mela is very easily frustrated and has a hair trigger temper, which her bullies often used to antagonize her. They purposefully riled her up and caused her to lash out, so Mela gained a reputation as a troublemaker from the teachers. This caused her to fall further behind in school and exacerbated the previous issues

To get people to leave her alone, Mela created a very curated, if inauthentic, "bad girl" persona where she made herself look and act immediately aggressive and rude to everyone. If she didn't let anyone know anything about her, they couldn't find things to set her off anymore, and she'd avoid all the bullying. It did actually work, and people left her alone, but she ended up becoming so feared that she had no friends and no one wanted to be around her. She ended up hanging out with all the academy pokemon instead and developing a close bond with each of them.

Even after she comes back to the Academy she struggles the most out of all the students to fit back into things-- she comes across as a "problem child" which gives the teachers expectations that eventually become a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's only after a long, heated discussion with Clavell that they can start to work past her snippy exterior and get to the heart of the matter. When the teachers give her more patience and extra help, however, they grow to realize she actually does care about learning and is quite sweet

She loves making art. She is also not very good at making art. At the start, she's pretty defensive about it, but is shocked to find the students in art club are extremely welcoming and compliment her work, which makes her beyond happy and extremely motivated to keep trying. Those art club members end up becoming her first non-team-star friends in a long time, and she always brings them out to the courtyard so that her pokemon friends can pose and model for them to draw

She gets really really red when she's embarrassed. Her old, derogatory nickname was "the red-hot girl" because of her temper, but Team Star only ever uses it to joke about how she flushes now

Atticus

Low-hanging fruit here but this man has autism. He cannot read the mood of a room to save his life, and has been known to make extended, sometimes uncomfortable eye contact with whoever he happens to be talking to. He once infodumped to Giacomo about Phoenician Purple for three hours

His speech patterns are partially because of his extreme interest in history and partially because he finds older prose to be more precise in meaning than modern day slang. He is very clear about saying exactly what he means and being extremely specific, so he finds modern day slang with all its double meanings to be hard to follow and hard to articulate his thoughts with. Older prose has these same issues, but no one tell him that

He struggles to pay attention to things unless his hands are busy. Teachers often wondered if he was paying attention in class while sketching designs or sewing things, but it actually helps him focus better

His three greatest skills are his fashion design, his flexibility, and his skill as a nail artist. He can make you the most dazzling star of the school prom and then do a standing backflip when he's done

Atticus cares very little about social conventions or expectations. It worries people like Penny, who fears it makes him a target for bullying because he is so outwardly strange, but it's honestly fine by him. Despite receiving some pretty horrible treatment at the hands of his bullies in the past, he's bothered very little by it, and cares even less about what people think of him now. He has good friends all around him, so if people think he's weird that's on them; he's gonna keep doing what he wants whether or not it gives him a reputation

Atticus is easily the most mentally stable of anyone in the group. Nothing bothers this man whatsoever; he is thriving and in his lane. Despite this, however, he is never asked for advice because he only gives it in Shakespearean riddles

Ortega

He is an exceptional mechanic, and with the help of Atticus has actually made far more impressive vehicles than even the Starmobiles. His pride and joy is a pastel pink bedazzled motorcycle with a sidecar for his Dacsbund. He can't actually drive it because he's 12 and doesn't have a license, but still

All his mechanic tools are covered in rhinestones and his jumpsuit is pastel pink. He is also a straight, cis man, he just personally beat gender roles unconscious with his gold-encrusted staff. He would have kicked it too, but that would ruin his dress shoes and he's too classy for that

He's sassy and snarky, but it's not a defense mechanism like Mela or a consequence of social isolation like Penny, he's just kind of a brat. Team Star has done a lot to humble him and get him to understand the ~value of friendship~ but he was and still kind of is a spoiled little demon

In terms of raw intelligence, Ortega might be the smartest person in Team Star. He's skipped a few grades, excels at basically everything he sets his mind to, and couples it with pretty high emotional intelligence too. If anyone needs help with homework and is willing to swallow their pride enough to ask, he'll easily be able to help

Ortega has excellent dexterity, which makes him a fantastic piano player and quite good at working with very fine machinery. He also got really into baton twirling at one point because he thought it looked cool, so he can do lots of really neat tricks with his staff and pens and whatnot. He loves to bask in the attention that the grunts give him whenever he shows off (which is often. He LOVES showing off)

He has no patience for anything whatsoever. Eri has to hold him back like a rabid chihuahua every time they go somewhere because he is very used to being waited on constantly. Rich boy rehabilitation

Eri

Every one and their mother hcs this but [points at Carmen] Lesbians. Carmen and Eri are genuinely THE power couple; they’re both smart and gorgeous and well-liked by everyone. Carmen is still shocked Eri didn’t snap her like a toothpick bc it would have been deserved but Eri is just that nice. Stop bullies by kissing them so good they realize they like girls

Everyone else in team star stays up until ungodly hours for assorted reasons but Eri is up at like 5 so she can work out for two hours before class. She’s a little disappointed no one wants to join in her workouts but that’s ok! They need their rest. The benefit of Eri’s workouts is that she can carry a team star member on each arm like one of those muscle dudes on the beach, and she does, bc it’s cool

She’s a luchadora! She plays a heel named La Princesa in Paldean wrestling tournaments but it’s an open secret that she’s super sweet out of the ring and always treats her opponents to ice cream afterwards. Genuine treat to be suplexed by her. Despite being able to, she would NEVER hurt someone for real

Atticus had to tailor her outfits bc they didn’t fit. She’s like 6’, curvy, and built like a tractor trailer, so she cannot wear unisex shirts without ripping the damn sleeves off. She’s very kyaa about it. Very >o< about it

Cries during kid’s movies. And ASPCA commercials. And most things actually. The power of friendship does and has moved her to tears. She is mesmerized by the beauty of the world

Penny

Another popular hc but (gestures vaguely at Penny's everything) transfemme. She has the dysphoria hoodie, the six cats, the cybercrime, the depression nest, whatever is going on with her hair, etc. She got sent to "study abroad" and went on HRT I will stand by this until the end of time. She washes down her progesterone with monster energy. Gamer girl. I bet she even plays Bloodborne

Has severe social anxiety / trauma that stemmed from the bullying and just got significantly worse over time. She orders all her groceries online and has them delivered, so she never has to leave her room and does most of her stuff remotely. If / when she does go outside, it's always at weird hours so she doesn't run into anyone. The mere prospect of going into the cafeteria around lunchtime is mortifying to her. wayyyyy too many people. Her anxiety is significantly worse in the academy, and she's able to function better outside of it

She has support systems for days. Aside from her new friends Nemona / Arven / the protag, she has Team Star, Clavell, an actual therapist, a xanax prescription, and six emotional support veevees. Team Star especially does a lot to help reintroduce her to classes and get over the worst of her anxiety so she can go back to school-- and it works! She becomes much more open, less stressed, and happier postgame as she and her friends help each other out

Penny's dad is super supportive but also super embarrassing about it. He is the ultimate trans rights guy but also wears neon rainbow shirts that say "ALLY" in big letters. Penny kept the worst of the bullying a secret from him because there is zero doubt in my mind he would just roll up to the bullies' houses and beat the crap out of them. He WILL throw hands with a 13 year old if they upset his little girl and he is not afraid to admit that. I'm hyping up this man so bad

Penny is an only child (or younger sibling if u hc Peony to be her dad) but has so, SO many cousins who are constantly doting on her. She is quick to try and retreat to her room during reunions and whatnot because she's easily overwhelmed by the attention, but it all gets better postgame. She ends up dragging Arven to her house for the holidays because he doesn't have a proper family and the cousins are completely enamored with him. He's polite, he's happy to help with the cooking, he has a cute dog... Penny's family is absolutely delighted she has such a good friend and Arven is more than happy to soak up all that familial attention. It's a good exchange

She is an insanely picky eater. Arven is taking this as a challenge, and is always trying to make new sandwiches that she likes. Seeing as Nemona and the protagonist would probably eat salami off the floor if given the opportunity, getting a good review from Penny in particular always boosts his ego. He's also made it his mission to sneak in new ingredients in the hopes of expanding her absolutely atrocious palette. It's not going well, but damn if he isn't trying
