i see your “goncharov can’t be made into a real movie cause that would ruin it” and raise you; someone does make a real version of goncharov but films 3 or 4 different versions of each scene/plot point, and than mashes them up to create like 30 different versions of the same movie. it’s released in theaters under the guise of being a perfectly normal film, but every person who goes to see it sees a slightly different version, which will just increase the confusion and amount of unconnected lore. is that possible? probably not. but it would be hilarious.

No, no, NO! You don’t understand! If they were going to make a movie called “Goncharov” it would have to be a modern REBOOT of the 1973 film. Then everyone would have the right to consume the media while simultaneously complaining about how “it isn’t as good as the original” or “I can’t BELIEVE that they left out the iconic part XYZ”. We get to watch the film and preserve the original. Everyone wins.

I'm a big fan of that thing tumblr does where we make the character's last name the title of the thing they're in (see: Sans Undertale) but the fact that Goncharov has no canon first name and the movie is named after him forces us to refer to him as GONCHAROV GONCHAROV and I just

a blizzard in naples by dolokhov sidorov (danny elfman)
goncharov’s end credit theme.
a little known fact; danny elfman actually produced most of the soundtrack for goncharov under the alias dolokhov sidorov. he was worried that because the film was a big blockbuster, it would outshine his collaborative surrealist street group the mystic knights of the oingo boingo.

Andrey really did see right through him.

Mario Ambrosini is the most straightforward, gung-ho ‘mafia man’ of all the characters. He's also a rough, brash lawyer.
His role is as an inviter. He puts Michailov and Goncharov in the same room. He is stabbed to death in the bloody rising of Lo Straniero; the infamous courtroom stabbing.
Ambrosini created a dragon and knew what he was doing. Did he know its shadow's jaws would close around his throat?

i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.

Goncharov coming third in tumblr's top 100 movies of 2023 is so damn funny. Imagine being a film studio exec who spent millions making some of the other 97 movies listed below it only to be beaten by a film that cost exactly zero dollars to make and doesn't exist

For me the funniest thing to come out of the goncharov meme was not any of the fake scenes or the nyt articles about it or whatever but the fact that due to the fact that he'd found it funny when I told him about it I got my dad several books by ivan goncharov for christmas that year as a joke fully expecting him to not even touch them BUT to everyone's surprise he read every single one cover to cover and liked them so much that he read dostoevsky and then read tolstoy and then pushkin and then gogol and now barely reads anything that isn't nineteenth century russian literature and also has started watching academic talks about crime and punishment and will randomly bring up shit like the politics present in bulgakov's writing in at LEAST half of our conversations. all because of goncharov

Love to be on a website where I can join such hit 2022 fandoms as "century old public domain novel being read very slowly" and "half-century old mafia film that does not actually exist."

Goncharov was special because not only did we establish canon, we created a whole fanon gay interpretation and proceded to ignore the (not even real) original in favour of it. And thats what tumblr is all about.
