ppl who hate a horror movie because it wasn’t “scary enough” or “gory enough”. rage rage rage. do you not appreciate cosmic horrors and psychological horrors and atmospheric horrors and arthouse and the exploration of unique personal experience through a provocative genre and narratives of social plights and the unease and ridiculousness and parody and subtlety and homage. and fun. do you hate fun.

I'm trying to think of a shock film I know of and of course google is NO help and of course I'm not a horror aficionado but calling the first Saw one of "the goriest and scariest shock horror films" feels STUPID. No it is not. It's not at ALL the gross dirty nasty horror I meant by shock film!!

Book Review: WOE TO THOSE WHO DWELL ON EARTH by John Lynch
This was a mixed bag for me as it was my first ever foray into Extreme Horror/military splatterpunk and I think the stories that weren’t for me will definitely be up other peoples’ alleys!
Read it if:
You like military fiction, specifically Marine Corps context, culture and characters, from active service members to veterans dealing with associated mental health issues and trauma
You’re okay with some pretty gnarly body horror in the form of amputation, castration, creature feature gore, monster attacks, war zones, and a good mix of sex and violence – I found that mix fairly enjoyable!
You enjoy being grossed out (I was getting some The Slob lite vibes from Cock-Meat Sandwich), but you also want the pay-off of a few laughs and a bonkers Christmas-themed gorefest (The Tree Farm), and some feisty femme fatales (Bow Saw, The Newly Weds)
You really like it when arseholes get theirs (I found The Newly Weds especially satisfying)
You want a bonus extract from The Warrior’s Retreat included in this collection!

it always bothers me so much when people joke that the writers of like... saw, or other really violent/gory/excessive horror movies have something "wrong with them" or that theyre secretly sociopaths or whatever. because growing up and even now sometimes my intrusive thoughts made the inside of my mind look like a fucking slaughterhouse. i distinctly remember being 15 and having this intrusive thought of something Horrible, gory, disgusting and fucking disturbing, something so horrible that i dont even want to admit that my brain came up with it because i dont want people to think im a fucking danger to society, and then i saw the same exact thing happen in a saw movie years later and the relief i felt in that moment! the sheer blissful relief that this thought had occurred to someone else too, and that person was a normal ass person who wrote movies and whose gory disturbing thoughts actually had thousands of fans, and maybe that meant that i was a normal person too and not a twisted freak. and i felt good about that for quite a while. until my mother, a saw fan herself!!!!!!, joked that anyone who could think up a saw trap is a disturbed and twisted person. and now. well. i dont feel as relieved anymore.

hey nerds (affectionate)
recommend me some older horror movies (not necessarily super-old classics, but nothing too recent; i'm thinking like early 2000s at the latest) that u think are best enjoyed on a CRT TV
my family has a bunch of vhs tapes we never got rid of, but our collection is lacking in horror. we have the blair witch project & that's pretty much it. i wanna know what to look out for next time i go thrift shopping

The thing I love so much about Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the lack of sexual objectification! A horror movie where the horror is on both sides, the desperation of starvation and the things you’re willing to normalise when you’re hungry.
The women in the movie are attractive and dressed for hot weather but are never punished for it. They’re not made up to be sluts who deserve it and the men aren’t made to be jerks who had it coming. It’s the unfortunate meeting between people in a whole other situation than they could ever imagine, embittered enough to justify the horrors being done upon their fellow man.
This movie being written off as a gorefest for shock value is such an injustice and I won’t stand for it any more
