wait hey i just realized that greater boston has 5 seasons like the 5 stages of grief. hm. oh no. i kinda wanna see if there’s actually anything there, so im just gonna speculate...

season 1: denial. leon’s ghost isn’t yet confirmed to truly exist, so his haunting is much more... metaphorical in tone. there’s a seance made in an attempt to speak to him and a persistent theme of michael claiming/believing himself to be haunted by leon’s ghost, saying he’s still there, helping him, which sounds pretty denial-y to me. (yes, even though he was right. he was both right and also in denial. you understand.) (chelmsworth tries/succeeds at starting red line, and leaves before he can become mayor. michael tells him that there will be consequences, and chelmsworth ignores him.)

season 2: anger. red line is officially a thing, and so is leon’s ghost. i don’t remember a lot about what specific events occurred in season 2, actually, other than that there definitely was anger, i think? the anger isn’t exactly unique to this season, tho, there’s a lot of anger in season 1. emily feeling angry about her marriage, isabelle, angry about injustices, nica, angry about being abandoned, lashing out at complete strangers all of the time.  i guess anger might be the driving point of season 2? it’s why emily is even a problem, and why nica stoops so low. (one thing that IS unique to season 2 is that this is where EVERYONE starts being angry at CHELMSWORTH for leaving them behind,)

season 3: bargaining. (chelmsworth comes back, with the intentions to make amends!! he even offers gifts!! he is turned down. hard.) michael gets to talk to leon again and michael pleads with leon to play chess with him, forgoing sleep and food. one game? it’s just good to hear your voice again... and leon, at first, relents, but once the game is done, leon tells michael that he needs to let him go, once it’s obvious that this isn’t good for him. again, michael’s pleading- no, he’s bargaining, that there’s so much value in the way that michael’s person-hood is being overwritten with leon’s own, in the way he’s losing himself in leon’s thoughts, his feelings, his memories. leon’s a CHARACTER again, and his friends are looking for him. sure, leon’s a ghost, but he’s right there! within arms reach and not behind the inconceivable barrier between life and death! it’s almost like he never died! ...but.

speculation:

season 4: depression. it’s not safe to hold on to leon that way. as evidenced by michael and poletti, talking to leon is too dangerous for most people. it hurts them. badly. deeply. leon is dead. he killed himself, and his return as a ghost doesn’t change that. everyone has to move on, for their own sake and his. leon hasn’t exactly “come back to them.” not by choice, anyway, and he’s leaving once he gets the opportunity to do so. that’ll probably be pretty disappointing, and, y’know, really depressing.

season 5: acceptance, leon doesn’t want to roam this world as a ghost anymore, and wishes to return to his rest. he needs help to do so, and he’ll most likely need it from those who loved him most. they finally let him go, and accept that, this time, they’ll really never see him again.

Jottings: Season 7, Episode 4. Well then, best not die

As Tom Christie would say, "the Lord does answer prayer, you know": this week has been indeed bigger, better, brighter and more. Tissues might or might not be needed - it's up to you to decide (fun fact, I almost did), but ice cream is a must (steamy moments ahead, ahem).

Back at Lallybroch the pixies broke the alarm clock-cum-radio, while someone is wiping his nauseous mouth with the Declaration of Independence in Wilmington. And there can be no greater contrast when it comes to casting, than the one between SS and Vandervaart. She is trying, bless her heart she does, and it shows a lot. Yet no matter how hard she does it, she will never overcome, I am afraid, that stilted delivery and that genuine uneasiness that make you feel alternatively dismissive and sorry for her. In the economy of Outlander, SS is more than a waste: she is a casualty, because she managed to unwillingly kill Bree, a character with a difficult, often unsympathetic design to start with.

For his first substantial on-screen appearance, Vandervaart passed my scrutiny with flying colors. Now I might be biased, because I am a documented victim of this particular Boston Brahmin charm, that screams old money and boat shoes and Ivy League and effortless sophistication. But it's more than this, of course, and I suspect solid brains and a great deal of preparatory work. This kid has managed to impress me, with his subtle nods to the mannerisms of JAMMF and LJG. The scene with Young Ian and Rollo is flawless. The diction is perfect. He cares for William enough to become William and this is something to behold and applaud.

Both Hunters are quintessential. There is a sort of steel butterfly quality to Rachel and Denzell Hunter's kindness could melt my B&J's Chocolatey Love A-Fair bucket on the spot. Their likeability index will probably increase with time, and not only in this fandom, but also in the silent majority of casuals.

Which brings me to Tom Christie brilliantly showing us that, as my beloved Wilde once said with perfect clarity, "every saint has a past and every sinner has a future". This is the moment when I almost reached for the tissues, because I once was Tom Christie, and I know how damn hard is to keep your dignity in a hope against hope situation. And I could have done without that burlesque kiss altogether: but that is just me.

We've been waiting for this one since the trailer was released or even since I Am Not Alone. At last some bedroom maneuvers that are not: a) scampered; b) implied; c) muted and faded to cheesiness. I didn't even ask for much, did I?

Spoiler: "The thing about Tom is he wants you. Badly." That golden light. That serene grace. That perfect dialogue of bodies and souls. That cheeky raspiness. Not about Tom and not exactly JAMMF. I almost shivered, it was just like the good old times. And then, BAM!

A PLAGUE ON YOUR HOUSE, INTIMACY COORDINATOR VANESSA WOMAN, WHOSE NAME I DO NOT EVEN BOTHER TO GOOGLE AT 03:55 AM LOCAL TIME.

YOU SET OUR HOPES HIGH, PUSHED US TO THE EDGE AND THEN HAD THEM FADE TO THAT TOTALLY CLICHE MIRROR TRANSITION. HELLO? YOU FEEL OK WHEN YOU LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR, WHILE YOU BRUSH YOUR TEETH?

Enough said. And the next lost soul who darts out of Mordor with rumors of body doubles can go directly to jail, not pass GO (heh), not collect $200.

Is next week the Singapore (Sling) one? Lucky I am still in town, then. That is a mystery in the waiting. Onwards.

First impression

Greater Boston is so cruel (complimentary) for making our first look at Nica basically the only time she's happy and confident. She's going to be famous! I don't think I knew quite what to make of the podcast or its characters then but man was I not prepared for the journey she would go on.

:( <3 She goes through so much! She is complex and messy and interesting! She drives people away and lashes out and wants to be noticed but doesn't know how to ask. I am so sad about her. Actually I think she's doing a little better by the end of season 4 but I didn't retain that season very well, I need to relisten sometime.

Favorite moment

Nica gets so many great monologues, but I remain haunted by the story she tells at Leon's funeral and how she concludes "In that moment, I was famous." It ties back to her intro monologue in a brutal, unexpected way and sets up how the rest of her story so far will be her dealing with being infamous due to her poor choices. The funeral episode is where I first realized how good Greater Boston was going to be.

Idea for a story

I would have loved to see how Nica would've handled it if she's gotten 'possessed' by Leon the way Michael did. I think that might make her worse actually.

Unpopular opinion

Not enough people talk about Greater Boston for me to know what standard opinions are, but in-universe I think it's interesting that people talk a lot about the things Nica did wrong assisting the Lottery but don't dwell as much on Leon helping. Iirc Leon was the one who helped frame Isaiah which - as Isaiah notes - could have gotten him (a Black teen) killed.

Favorite relationship

Nica's connection with Emily is so interesting. She's spying on her but then genuinely becomes her friend, and Emily is awful but Nica gets why she's awful and sympathizes with her even while she's stabbing her in the back. Emily is still on her way to rock bottom, but I think if anyone is willing to extend a hand when she hits it, it'll be Nica. Emily will probably spit on it when she does, but you never know.

Favorite headcanon

Nica is probably still banned from several Italian restaurants on the North End. Some crimes can never be forgiven.

this booster shot knocked me flat for a day longer than anticipated, so i watched the first two seasons of adventure time in something of a haze. very funny to watch these first two seasons of largely unconnected episodes find their footing and tone, and think about the huge eight-episode arcs in the back half of this show's run.

the multiplayer aspect of this newest pokemon game is more of a photo op with friends simulator than anything else. you can't in any meaningful way (or at least we didn't figure out how to) battle together or even make sure we were synced up to do star team or gym fights at the same time (except for the terra raids which take thirty seconds max). however i do have this very cute, if slightly choppy photo of me and my best friend

Sports Betting Champ Results Game by Game

MY General RECORD 19-0

I've just had the chance of wagering with John Morrison's Games Betting with athlete Champion framework since Walk 2009 and I've made 19 wagers up until this point.

Despite the fact that I love the Cylinders, I was encouraged to wager on the Lakers to dominate the match, and obviously they did and I won the bet.

6/09 Los Angeles Lakers versus Orlando Enchantment

It was Down 3 of the NBA Finals and, surprisingly, however the Enchanted shot above 62% for the game, and 75% in the primary half, they scarcely got by with a success 108-104. I truly figured Kobe would be his typical self and haul it out with a success toward the end, yet he missed a few free tosses towards the end and the Enchantment proceeded to dominate the match, for their most memorable success of the series, as well as in establishment history. Kid am I happy that I'm utilizing the Games Wagering Champion! One more win for me.

MY MLB RESULTS

5/1 Seattle Sailors versus Oakland Games

I was told to wager on the Sports in this game at +1.5 and I'm happy I did on the grounds that despite the fact that the A's were ahead a large portion of the game, the Sailors returned toward the end and dominated the match in the ninth inning by one run 8-7. I obviously, won this bet.

5/21 Texas Officers versus Detroit Tigers

The Officers were the longshot at +1.5 in this game and they wound up losing by 1 run. The Officers followed the entire game basically, until the eighth inning when they restricted at 3-3. The Tigers proceeded to win in the 10th by a score of 4-3. I won another.

5/25 Florida Marlins versus Philadelphia Phillies

I truly figured the Phillies would dominate this match since they appear to be the better group, but I was encouraged to wager on the Marlins +1.5 and the Marlins won 5-3, despite the fact that Ryan Howard hit two homeruns. Another success for me.

5/25 St. Louis Cardinals versus Milwaukee Brewers

This game was a pitchers duel between the Cardinals Chris Woodworker and the Brewers Yovani Gallardo. There was no score after 9 innings, so it went into additional items. In the tenth inning, a blunder by the Cardinals caught up with them when the Brewers Bill Lobby drove in the triumphant run, making the last score 1-0. I was told to wager on the Cardinals +1.5, and since they lost by 1 run, I actually won the bet.

5/29 Boston Red Sox versus Toront Blue Jays

The Blue Jays pitcher Casey Janssen tossed 7 great innings and the Blue Jays beat the Sox 6-3. Once more the Blue Jays were longshots at +1.5, so I won.

6/10 New York Yankees versus Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox remained wonderful against the Yankees this season, and took over the lead position in the American Association East. They pushed out the Yankees with a 6-5 win. I picked the Yankees at +1.5 and since the Yankees just lost by one run, I won a bet by and by.

6/22 St. Louis Cardinals versus New York Mets

I was told to wager on the New York Mets at - 1.5 to win this bet. This implies the Mets need to dominate the match, by something like 2 runs for me to win the bet. The Mets were ahead the greater part of the game, however towards the end their lead was just a single run. In the lower part of the eighth, Luis Castillo of the New York Mets scored on a grounder up the center to put the Mets ahead 6-4. The Mets closer came in the ninth inning, and shut the entryway and the Mets wound up winning 6-4, so I won one more wagered with this framework.

6/22 San Francisco Monsters versus Oakland Games

Despite the fact that I'm a stalwart Monsters fan, I was told to wager on the An's in this game. The A's were the number one at - 1.5, so they needed to win by no less than 2 runs for me to win the bet. The A's pitcher Trevor Cahill pitched areas of strength for 7, just surrendering one run and Bobby Crosby hit a line drive twofold down the a respectable starting point line, to give the's a 4-1 lead and the Sports proceeded to dominate the match by a score of 5-1. I won another baseball bet!

6/24 Minnesota Twins versus Milwaukee Brewers

This game seemed to be a without a doubt win for the Twins, yet everything went downhill with 2 outs in the eighth inning. A solitary, RBI twofold, and two mistakes was a lot for the Twins to survive, on the grounds that the Brewers returned and dominated this match 4-3. I bet on the Brewers at +1.5, so all they needed to do was lose by 1 run or less, or dominate the match. Since they dominated this match, I won this bet!

6/27 Philadelphia Phillies versus Toronto Blue Jays

I was told to wager on the Phillies to dominate this match at - 1.5, however I was frightened. The Phillies were doing genuinely awful as of late, and didn't appear to win any time soon. Be that as it may, I don't have any idea what got into them today, since they killed the Blue Jays 10-0! The Phillies' Jayson Werth hit two homers, and was a triple short of the cycle. The Phillies starter J. A. Happ tossed his first profession shutout, just permitting 5 hits. As you would have speculated, I won one more wagered.

6/29 Los Angeles Holy messengers of Anaheim versus Texas Officers

The Holy messengers pitcher Sean O'Sullivan hung on in this game and got his second vocation win when the Heavenly messengers beat the Officers 5-2. O'Sullivan tossed 6 great innings, just surrendering 2 runs. The Heavenly messengers tore the game open with 4 runs in the sixth inning and they never thought back, dominating this match 5-2. I was told to wager on the Heavenly messengers at +1.5, and I won one more wagered with this framework.

6/29 Detroit Tigers versus Oakland Athletics

The Sports struck out 14 Tigers' players this evening, and the A's traveled to a 7-1 triumph behind 3 hits by Ryan Sweeney. A's pitcher Brett Anderson tossed a decent 5.1 innings, and the warm up area hung on as the A's won 7-1.
