today I'm thinking about a borrower who thinks they're sneaky and spends time hanging out with a family in places they think they can't be seen. The family is super chill and all just goes, oh a new fam member that's really shy!! I don't wanna spook them :)

And one day the tiny is stealing borrowing food and falls, hurting themself pretty badly. They're still functional, but if someone were to look at them, it'd be very obvious they were injured. So they go back to their normal schedule of sitting just behind things on shelves and hanging out when one day the parental figure is like, oh dude, you don't look so good, what happened? and the tiny is like nah they're clearly talking to someone else despite there being literally no one else here rn.

Then the parent moves the thing in front of them and goes, you awake kid? straight to the tiny's face. cue confusion n fear.

other ideas: the humans have been fairly obviously reacting to the tiny but denial is a river in Egypt /ref and so they always brush it off. Things like tiny falls asleep on a shelf and wakes up a shelf down in the bean's scarf and goes oh damn guess I sleep walk lol

Imagine problems facing g/t families or relationships. Literally anything can happen here! The normal aspects of relationships and everyday life can be awful. For example:

1) Kissing? it can be cute, but when you really think about it, it can also be stressful and challenging. Imagine the stress before the first kiss..

2) sleeping in one bed causes fear of hurting the other

3) living in one house with a desire for even the slightest independence? no chance for the tiny!

4) sex life is (probably) out of the question

5) family/friends hatred for this relationship

6) when you decide to have a child, problems related to g/t parenting (a million i could name)

Living in such a relationship/family is indeed a challenge.

G/T Fiber Arts (In a Nutshell)

This is my attempt to explain what exactly I mean by g/t vibes when it comes to fiber arts. I'm mostly curious if this is a Vibe that other people feel about it, but it just hasn't been talked about so we don't know that we agree? Idk, please hit me up if this at all resonates.

For a quick summary for those who don't know, fiber art is a category of art that uses textiles (yarn, fabric, thread, and in general natural or synthetic fibers). They're a labor of love since a good chunk of them are traditionally, as well as in the modern day, done by hand, though there have been machines invented that can get the job done quickly. Fiber arts include but are not limited to: knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting, embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint, weaving, spinning, dying (as in yarn or fabric), and many others that I'm sure I'm missing.

Also for those who don't know, g/t is short for giant/tiny and refers to the phenomenon of significant size difference, usually between characters in media. Major mainstream examples include The Iron Giant, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Gulliver's Travels, or The Borrowers, to name a few.

I've been into fiber arts for about 14 years as of writing this! I've been a knitter and crocheter for that time, and since the pandemic have become a sewist and quilter. And like most of us, g/t has been with me for pretty much as long as I can remember. I'm by no means an expert in anything I do, but I've been at it for long enough to have a lot of Feelings about where these two interests overlap.

It's a bit hard to put those feelings into words, so apologies in advance if this turns into a bit of a ramble.

Fiber arts aside, I feel like most people in the g/t community are starved enough for proper content that we rely on Vibes to cope. It's about the Feeling of something being big or small, or making you feel big or small, whatever tickles your fancy at the time. The best way I can think to equate this in the fiber art world is: things someone made that I can imagine as being made or used by someone who's big or small.

Those big, chunky blankets people knit with their hands out of really thick merino? Major tiny vibes!

Patchwork clothes or quilts made from teeny amounts of fabric from all different colors and types? Hella giant vibes!

And don't even get me started on no-waste fashion!

I plan on going into further detail in separate posts so this doesn't turn into more of a novel, but I hope this makes sense as a (somewhat) brief overview of how I view G/T Vibes in fiber arts! Do let me know if you agree, and if there are other things that give you The Vibes!

Do you think it was a common thing for fans of G/t to feel.ashamed even for things that were innocent G/t?

I remember feeling ashamed of watching the movie the borrower's by myself even when by myself

I've had a few friends have similar feelings, so maybe it's commom! I can only speak for my experience, though.

I remember being soooo shy when watching movies like The Borrowers, Ferngully, etc. Or reading books like The BFG or The Indian in the Cupboard. And if we reading/watching those in class, I put a lot of effort into pretending to be disinterested 😩

As a kid, I could never put into words why I felt like I had to enjoy it in secret lol?? I guess I was just so aware that the people around me weren't intrigued by the size difference the same level as I was, so it made me feel weird.

Anyone have similar experiences?

A is a giant than has been shunned and hidden from the world far from any human's or a source of civilization.

B ends up finding A and is absolutely terrified, A is amazed of the human in their cave and immediately goes to inspect the human.

B feels terrible as the giant showed signs of loneliness, B decides to stay with A and occasionally leave to get supplies.

One day, A decides to chase B around for fun.

B ran away with a loud thumping heart, Their breath heavy and uncoordinated. They would get more scared at each booming step getting closer to them.

The way A wouldn't know how human emotions work and continue to chase him around, While B is terrified of the beast chasing him...
