What does Harper's ideal world look like?

oh man. if you asked them that they'd say something to the effect of "i don't know, i'm not that creative. i guess i'd like my sire back and all the giovanni dead?" in reality though, i think her perfect world is any one where he can kill and eat whoever he wants without consequence. where she doesn't have to constantly fight down the impulses of her beast but won't suffer for it. like harper genuinely would be happiest as some kind of conscious wight, even if it would be a very shallow existence. unfortunately, harper's perfect world is terrible for everyone else living in it.

1. Favourite movies: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), Mildred Pierce (1945) 2. Decent movies I liked / appreciated but not loved: Pat and Mike (1952), Emma. (2020), Suzume no Tojimari (2022), Bullets or Ballots (1936) 3. wtf movie/ending: Rebecca (2020). The movie is so lifeless that even gorgeous locations don't save it. It looks more like a tourist advertising. As far as the ending is concerned, leaving it vague makes the movie feel even more pointless and empty than it already was. 4. Best scenes: the ending / the police station argument in Pat and Mike (1952); 'If I loved you less...; from Emma. (2020); Katharine getting her comeuppance in Working Girl (1988); stealing a corpse from the hospital in Nine to Five (1980); the opening from Mildred Pierce (1945); the courtroom scene in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). 5. Favourite genres: drama, fantasy, comedy, romance. 6. Not only is it a terrible performance when compared to a master class that was Laurence Olivier, but even in its own right this performance is truly horrendous. It lacks all possible nuance that Maxim's character needs and is overall more a caricature than one of my favourite characters in movie history. 9. The most wasted cast: Lily and Kristin Scott Thomas in Rebecca (2020). I do believe they are capable of giving great performances, but not in this film. It's like a void sucking the talent of otherwise good actors. Also, I don't understant why make Cruella (2021) at all. The actors are fine and all but the entire film is just... wrong. This character is not Cruella, this is not her backstory, it's someone's fanfic. Nothing in the plot makes a lick of sense. Emma Stone, Emma, Joel Fry, Mark Strong. 10. The best wasted premise: Rebecca (2020). A gothic mystery romance. Sign me up... most of the time. You have to try to stuff it up. They managed. 11. Best premise: Suzume no Tojimari (2022). Crazy and brilliant. 12. Favourite cast: Pat and Mike (1952), I guess. I just really love seeing Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy together on screen again. They light up every scene they are in. 13. Favourite on-screen duos: Herbert Marshall x Deanna Durbin in Mad About Music (1938); Katharine Hepburn x Spencer Tracy in Pat and Mike (1952); Anya Taylor-Joy x Johnny Flynn in Emma. Favourite on-screen relationships: Pat Pemberton + Mike Conovan (Pat and Mike, 1952); Emma Woodhouse + George Knightley (Emma., 2020). 15. Favourite characters: for the first time since I've started writing these I know exactly who the best character is. Possibly the best character of the entire year. Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). I adore this man for his reserve, conviction, strength, love, patience, compassion. He is the most inspirational character I can think of. Gloria Harkinson, Richard Todd / "Mr. Harkinson" (Mad About Music, 1938); Pat Pemberton, Mike Conovan (Pat and Mike, 1952);  Emma Woodhouse, George Knightley (Emma., 2020); Suzume Iwato (Suzume no Tojimari, 2022); Bruce Wayne / Batman (Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, 1993); Doralee Rhodes (Nine to Five, 1980); Caine (John Wick: Chapter 4, 2023); Roger Livesey (I Know Where I'm Going!, 1945); Mildred Pierce, Veda Pierce Forrester (Mildred Pierce, 1945); Detective Johnny Blake (Bullets or Ballots, 1936); Atticus Finch, Scout, Jem (To Kill a Mockingbird, 1962). 15. Favourite quote: You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. (To Kill a Mockingbird, 1962). 16. Favourite fact discovered in 2023: I have a couple. Gregory Peck and Mary Badham formed a life-long friendship on the set of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Harper Lee and Truman Capote's real-life friendship was also depicted in the film. 17. The most overrated film: like half of them? Rebecca (2020) is terrible; Working Girl (1988) is a bit cringe; Nine to Five (1980) is ALL cringe; John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) is okay but not a masterpiece; I Know Where I'm Going! (1945) has the most annoying protagonist; Highlander (1986) is a bit meh. I'll go with Cruella (2021) because it has no right to even exist. 18. The most disappointing film: Rebecca (2020). 19. The biggest surprise: Gregory Peck and the entire To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). An introspective character study. Truly deep and meeningful, masterfully written, diracted and acted. What do they say? They don't make them like they used to? Indeed they don't. 20. Best cinematography: The absolute best one is Ernest Haller for Mildred Pierce (1945). Cinematography in that film is breathtaking. It's one of the best-looking noirs I've ever seen and that is saying something as I've seen about a hundred of them. Honourable mentions go to Erwin Hillier (I Know Where I'm Going!, 1945); Russell Harlan (To Kill a Mockingbird, 1962). 21. Best set design: George James Hopkins (Mildred Pierce, 1945). 22. Best costume design: Mildred Pierce and Working Girl (1988). 23. Best music: Nine to Five (1980) just because the song is an absolute smash hit! I have had it on repeat for years. 24. Best prooduction choice: cinematography, costumes and casting in Mildred Pierce (1945). Joan Crawford is a knockout! Also, everything about To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). 25. Worst production choice: making Rebecca (2020). Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to remake a Hitchcock classic? Was 1998's Psycho not enough? But also, they made it in the brightest possible colours. It's supposed to be a dark mystery almost horror and it looks like a Taylor Swift music video. Moreover, the costumes are truly baffling. They don't look 1930s at all and paired with rainbow colours all the style of the story or the 1940's adaptation is gone. Just by looking at it, you'd confuse it for a modern melodrama. I can't leave it at one. The whole existance of Cruella (2021) annoys me. Such a pretentious and irritating film! The obnoxious costume design is one of those notoriously bad production choices. 26. Film of the month: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). There isn't a single doubt in my mind.Mildred Pierce (1945) is a close second, also quite a gem of a film.

Season 3 Character Highlights - 3 Things

Since we have a long hiatus and my husband is tired of hearing me talk about Lone Star, I have decided to do a ‘favorite things’ for each of the main characters, all are my own opinions. A new one will be added every other day until all 10 main characters are complete. 

Character: Owen Strand

Favorite 3 scenes:

1.     3x04 Push: During montage of Grace giving birth/TK waking up – he had no dialogue, but his body language was more than enough to convey Owen’s feelings at the time. He was assuming his son was dying while he was watching a couple he cares deeply for meet the addition to their family. This is honestly probably one of my favorite Rob Lowe scenes ever.

2.    3x18 A Bright and Cloudless Morning: the Manny scene feels like Owen finally acknowledging how deeply he has held so much throughout his life was magic. Manny telling him that no one is asking him to forget, while also making him see how he has been carrying it with him for over 20 years, letting it deeply impact all of his relationships.

3.    3x09 The Bird: When he finally told Ginsburg everything he had wanted to say to Gwyn. It was almost like we saw the 1st of his many weights of regret fall him in that scene.

 Favorite 3 lines: Funny, heartfelt, or ridiculous

1.     3x16 Shift-less: “All this time, I thought you didn't want to be a father; it turns out you just didn't want to be a father to me. And I'm not sure I blame you after everything. I'm the one who broke the family. Dad, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't save him. I tried, I swear to God, I tried. I'm so, so sorry.” –This scene/quote explains a lot about why Owen is the way he is.

2.    3x14 Impulse Control: “As the kids say, today, I'm all Gucci.” –He really, really wasn’t.

3.    3x07 Red vs Blue: “I have an idea, why don’t we burn down our fire house again and tell them that we lost our jerseys.” –Because this would totally fix the situation.

 Favorite 3 dynamics:

1.     Owen & Judd: This relationship has probably always been Owen’s strongest and most consistent relationship through out the series, and this really continues in Season 3. The respect that the characters have for each other bleeds into each scene they have, like the way Judd jumps in with directing the crew at the clown call, but does it like it was coming from Owen. I also love how Judd will flat out refuse to answer some of Owen’s more ridiculous questions, and the way he has no ability to school his reactions to the random things Owen does, even years later just makes me love all of their scenes even more. The last they shared in 3x18, with Owen acknowledging to Judd that the 126 was his house was such an amazing call back to the pilot, in an episode filled with pilot parallels.

2.    Owen & Catherine: I may be in the minority, but I actually liked this relationship for him. She wasn’t afraid to call him out on his shit or to disagree with him. I love that she saw something in him, and tried to break through his walls, but also respected herself enough to tell him not to call her until he got the help that he desperately needed. Seeing that she sent him a card after the building collapse was a great way to keep her relevant and shows that even though they weren’t together, she was still supportive of him. However, now every time I see Matthew McConaughey I can’t help but to think of their first date.

3.    Owen & Tommy: These two are a bit of a chaotic duo, but they really do complement each other in the fire house. I love their relationship as Co-Captains, they work together almost seamlessly since 2x1, but in season 3 it became stronger. I was one of the few that liked that he was the one that she broke down with in 2x13, I also loved the way they communicated in 3x04 when the tables were slightly turned. Like Owen’s relationship with Judd, his relationship with Tommy has been built on a mutual respect for each other. I loved watching them have fun in 3x07. In some ways, I think that a reason that Owen has been able to be more hands off with TK, especially with everything that happened in season 3 was because he knew he could trust Tommy to let him know if there was anything that he NEEDED to know. He had already told her in 3x04 that there wasn’t anyone else he would have wanted his son to work under, and I think that throughout the season, that feeling increased for him.

 3 things we learned:

1.     Family History: Specifically, that he had a younger brother named Tyler that died young, and seemed like the catalyst for Owen needing to save lives, not just wanting to. His mother and father were also introduced in flashbacks, letting us know that he hadn’t seen his father, Walter, since he was a kid. Also, that his father started another family, leaving him with at least one ½ sibling, Robert.

2.    9/11: We learned that he had been one of the people that had been pulled from the rubble of the towers, we hadn’t known previously where he had been, just that he had lost his whole house/shift.

3.   Past relationship: we finally got more info on wife #2. Lorraine, the knife wielder.

 3 hopes for season 4:

1.     I think meeting Lorraine would be hilarious, especially if they were to get someone that could really tap into the crazy that I imagine this woman is filled with. I want her to be someone so totally opposite of the professional women we have seen him with like Zoe, Gwyn, and Catherine. Like Anna Faris’ character from Just Friends would be hilarious.

2.    Continues to actually pay attention to his issues, season 3 did a great job of breaking him down, so it would be nice to see him really start to heal.

3.    Repairing the relationship with TK. Season 2 did a lot of damage to their relationship and it felt like that divide only became stronger throughout season 3. There was just a disconnected distance between them, that wasn’t there with any other characters. Their last scene in 3x18 did actually feel like the first step in that direction.

Terri Harper vs Ivana Habazin Highlights

We have a big weekend for women’s boxing with some of the best fighters in action.

Terri Harper (14-1-1), a former super featherweight champion, is now a champion at 154lbs. The WBA super welterweight champ is looking to defend that title as well as add the WBO title against one of the greatest women to ever take up the sweet science, Cecilia Braekhus (37-2).

Harper and Braekhus face off this Saturday (Oct 7) on the undercard for Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington on DAZN.

i miss a parent-child storyline actually (like darren and their dad had in s1). i think quinni would be great for this

i miss malakai already but i think it would be too narratively convenient for him to come back at the start of the season so i dont want to have any expectations for his (and the amerie/malakai) storyline. imma let the writers take me wherever they want me to go

what i dont want to see is a new love interest for my amerie like i feel bad for the new plot device dressed as a white blond boy that will be tossed away once the amerkai endgame is done cooking

WYB: I chose something comfortable. simple yet cool.

Q: what are the highlights?

WYB: maybe the necklace. it’s a highlight.

Q: we know you were recently announced as the global brand ambassador of lacoste. how did you become associated with the brand?

WYB: i think everyone enjoys sports like tennis and golf, so do i.

Q: i heard you’ve been secretly practicing a sport lately

WYB: it’s not really a secret, just that nobody knows about it.

Q: can you tell us what sport you’ve been practicing?

WYB: tennis. i’m still trying to improve. when i like something, i try to make time to learn and progress as much as possible.

Q: did you have any special feelings after watching the show?

WYB: Because I've recently developed an interest in tennis and have been following many matches— getting to understand many players. so when I first arrived it felt like the opening of a real tennis match. There were ball boys unveiling the cloth spread over the clay. the moment it was unveiled, including the lights and the feeling of the clay flying in the air really made my blood boil.

Q: The designers for this show presented very innovative and creative looks. Do you have any favorites?

WYB: I really like the tennis bag the suit and trench coat too
