sometimes i remember all the characters and worldbuilding that never made it into the films, and i'm both sad that not everyone got to experience them, but at the same time i'm so happy because they look only like i imagine them, they are unique, they are special, they are a bit like a secret between me and everyone else that knows the books, and they are ours only, only between the author and the readers, and those who only care about the action in the films will never get to see the world as a whole, its brilliance, never experience all those different characters and lifes and stories, and maybe it's better that way when the things that define them can't be stripped away for cinematic drama

#this is about lotr by the way #and the characters is mostly beregond im referring to #but also tom bombadil #i want everyone to be able to get to know them. i dont want them to get lost within some action film #there is so much worldbulding behind middle earth. so much Care in every single detail #if you only watch films for action and a bit of the plot i dont think you could grasp the genius of it all anyway #like the worldbuilding in lotr is something to indulge in and to obsess over (or thats how i see it)#its not an easy book to read. so when you read it at least for me its full in. im in this world. i am living there #you couldnt get that with films. as in thats literally impossible #a biscuit's rambles #anyway lets hear one loud cheer for beregond please who risked his life and job to protect faramir :)#he is the absolute best and i love him #and his relationship with pippin and everything-#ok im being carried away i could ramble endlessly about lotr

merlin’s secret being a visual thing. when he is around arthur or gwen or leon or morgana or [insert whatever character here] merlin seems pale and thin, almost like a ghost or an apparition. when the sun lands on him he reflects it like a corpse, he eyes seem dark and dull. he has this ethereal beauty to him, this otherworldly visage that leads many to believe he is of fae blood. he just doesn’t seem to be 100% human. but when he is ONLY with lancelot or gaius (cough or gwaine bc gwaine DEFINITELY knew) merlin is heartachingly human. merlin shines in the sunlight, colors are brighter and more vibrant around him, and his smiles are wide and his laughs are boisterous. he takes on color and leaves everyone wanting to know him. but when other join in or interact with the two, merlin shifts before their eyes so quickly and suddenly that they aren’t sure whether or not what they saw was a trick of the light. the idea still leaves them wanting more and wanting to see the merlin who is just so full of life but that merlin only appears for a small select group of people. merlin who has a guard so high that it has an effect of other’s perception of him.
