AND ANOTHER THING, I say, coming back into the tag with an unrelated question for the fine minds here in MLC fandom: how the fuck did baby li xiangyi afford to even found the sigu sect. He's like seventeen! max!! shan gudao presumably has built up a cushion of funds from fucking about on his lonesome in the jianghu for (mumble) years and probably doing some sketchy shit while unsupervised (and also fathering fang doubing, because the timeline of MLC is even more nonsense otherwise), and, I assume, the other people of sigu sect helped bankroll it, but still!
li xiangyi is seventeen? max?? somewhere between fifteen and seventeen?? and sigu sect is fucking big. that is a lot of very fancy land and buildings, and also a lot of very fancy stuff in general, where did this orphan street rat raised on the side of a mountain get the money for that? I assume he was sent out with like. some money to Not Starve, but I don't think he was sent out with 'found a rich ass sect' money.
like I guess bounties? rewards from grateful people he saved??? very explicitly not the imperial court, I think, given he's like 'we have nothing to do with them we cannot compromise our ethics' argument with shan gudao, so...???
I know it's Not That Deep, but also, blease, things cost money, how do you afford your fancy boy hair crown and robes.

and also the trust issues!! why does everyone expect them to "open up" when they have each other? they don't need anyone else!!! (in their minds) /also nf, also hi, same anon
For sure!!! "Open up???" To other people??? Like, reveal your actual intentions and true emotions??? That's the kind of thing that gets you killed!!! And exactly-- they have each other!!! They don't understand what everyone's issue is. Leo doesn't understand why people keep trying to TOUCH his brother or get too CLOSE to his brother or fucking BE ALONE WITH HIS BROTHER when they seriously need to just NOT DO THAT. The two of them are just FINE, they've ALWAYS been fine, they've ALWAYS been capable of taking care of each other and they still are!!!
Why does everyone seem to think that he's not enough for Donnie?! Or that Donnie wouldn't be enough for him!? Why do these people seem to think that he can't take care of Donnie by himself?

Why is Brook such a baddie???
“What kind of fool regards his own death as part of a plan, young lady?” ICE COLD.
It started in Punk Hazard but Brook has really come up in ranks as one of my favourite Straw Hats.
But also this is the most his words have been old man-coded. Calling Luffy and Sanji “two young men who will decide what is for the best” and daring to call Big Mom an ojou-san (young lady) is really rock metal if you, Soul King.
His voice just has an exponentially appealing gravitas to it. And they keep giving him the epic speeches.
“Is getting a copy of the Road Ponegliff more important than rescuing Sanji?”
“Yes. Sanji is a really kind man. I don’t know what kind of trap you’ve laid for him, but because he’s so kind, I knew there was a chance he would never come back. But if worst comes to worst and Sanji doesn’t return, I don’t want him to blame himself. I will not let him think this rescue mission didn’t get results!”
Just so *chefs kiss*.

i think too hard abt leo being at the center of their little flame in the movie and i go INSANE
mikey may be the heart, raph may be the eldest brother and the protector, and donnie may be the smart one, but leo is the leader.
hes the one who knows them best. hes the one who hypes up the team. hes the one who makes the first move. hes the one who does the background tuning when he isnt leader, and hes the one who puts things together.
he doesnt work alone. hes only a leader because he has a team to lead, only the strategist because he has members to make it work, only the face man because he has a team to back him. and hes not the eldest, not the one they all look up to. not the heart, not kind. not knowledgeable on as much as donnie, not as “useful”.
but what he didnt seem to notice, for so very, very long, leader or not, is that hes their core.
his flame is small, but bright. such a seemingly simple place and simple role and simple existence, but hes the start of everything. the one who said, why dont we not go after a killer? and they met the foot. the one who understood big mama wasnt to be trusted.
and its small. he says, im just the face guy. just the leader. just the background strategist and the jokester and idiot fool who almost ruined everything. but he would do anything for them. he understands them best. hes the one the kraang feared most, the only one capable of pulling it into that portal, the one who lead the resistance and the man who raised the boy who won it all.
like i just..i dont exactly know how to get it across but. he really is their core. he isnt the heart, the brain, the muscle.
hes the soul.
the driving force behind it all. the one who pulls them along, the one who understands, the one who knows.
leo…hes the soul. and what he doesnt seem to realize is that they would fall completely apart without him.
if he wasnt there to run when big mama proved she wasnt to be trusted, theyd still be captured. if he wasnt there to tell them not to go after a serial killer in the first place, common sense and root and ground, they’d most likely be dead, fools that they tend to be. if he wasnt there to brew up this huge plan to get big mama to hand over that collar, they wouldve been toast when the shredder first arrived. and they wouldnt be the same family, the same team, the same people without him.
no ones quite sure hes there at all. the concept of a soul is so transient, so uncertain. but hes there whether he or anyone else knows or not. his smarts and his heart and his care and his unyielding willingness to make sure everyone makes it out alright (of course, except for him).
you may not notice, through his mask and his jokes, through layers and layers of tangible muscle and brain and heart and skin and bone, but hes living there. at the core of it all. a driving force, whether hes seen or not.

it would be really funny in hywar for ruto and darunia to recognize the "hero of termina" but probably be confused because why is he tiny. wait there's more of them. okay i guess this isn't the guy we know (it is)
Oh yeah, I'm thinking Ruto and Darunia are 100% onto him, BUT they're the adult timeline versions, so they haven't seen the baby Hero of Time in years, so they're not 100% sure if that's actually him, or if the kid just happens to look like him. Besides, the kid says he's just the Hero of Termina, and the Hero of Time definitely didn't scowl that much when he was younger so... they're suspicious, but not confident enough to try and address it. And since all the sages except Sheik ascended into non-existence or something after sealing Ganon, Ruto and Darunia must have been pulled from somewhere in the middle of OOT, so they're used to the teenage Link, and unlike Sheik they have no reason to think he's going to return to being a kid. So as far as they know, it makes perfect sense for the Hero of Termina to just have a strong resemblance to how the Hero of Time looked when he was younger... but man are they ever identical.
Mask avoids them like the plague, because he knows they could bust him... and he also knows they're basically going to die shortly after they go home. He really doesn't have the emotional bandwidth to try and deal with that, so he just keeps his distance. But Ruto and Darunia are having many quiet debates in the background about "is that our Link or not". They are constantly pressing X to Doubt.
(Marin is also a solid member of the Press X To Doubt club, because she's like 90% certain that Ravio guy's voice is identical to her Link's, and even though she can't be sure with all the robes she thinks they might also have the same build, and the few glimpses she gets of the bottom of his face looks like Link... but also he doesn't seem to know her at all, and is just generally acting kind of off, so she's just... not sure what's going on there, but it bothers her. And she doesn't even have anyone to compare notes with.)
Also, please consider for a moment that Ganondorf knows basically nothing about the whole Majora's Mask debacle, so he only knows Mask as being the Hero of Time, and could out him literally by accident. I have this mental image of Ganon attempting to do a big dramatic showdown, only for the mood to thoroughly ruined by Mask frantically cutting him off mid-sentence, because if he gives any details right now, Mask is fucked. The exchange is something like "We meet again, it's been awhile, Hero of T-" "TERMINA, YES, that's me, how about we stop talking right now and try to kill each other instead". Ganon then delays the boss battle to try and work out what the fuck is going on, and also because Mask's obvious panic is hilarious to him.
(Meanwhile Captain Link knows that something is up, but he is literally always having a minimum of three simultaneous mental breakdowns at any given moment, so he's pretty happy just not acknowledging his suspicions that Mask's real hero title is very well known, he really doesn't need more stress in his life. He's trying so hard not to hear the extremely incriminating argument Mask and Ganon are having, and trying even harder not to connect the dots and realize what Mask's real title is. He's not succeeding. After that particular battle, he goes back to his tent and spends a solid ten minutes screaming into his pillow before he can successfully repress the knowledge that he's been fighting alongside the literal Hero of Time and affectionately referring to him as a demonic little gremlin. As long as Mask doesn't acknowledge it, he doesn't have to either, so it's fine. Everything is totally fine.)

gong qing chose to be doomed by the narrative the moment he chose to kill tian jin zhong. he knew he was going to die the minute he killed him. he met zhang zhiwei knowing the only outcome was his death. but he refused to go out without having his say. he refused to die without shaking the narrative. the ripple effect. the butterfly flaps its wings and dies, but it is still causing changes.
and the thing is. the thing is that you (or maybe just me) want him to live. what is there to hate about him? all he does is kill one man. he fails to impact longhu shan beyond that; all the other damage can be fixed. and i think, evil or not, the fact is that gong qing is just like zhang chulan, like the countless others who are seeking the truth. and zhang zhiwei and the elders are their adversaries in that, because it's clear as day that they are the ones concealing the truth. honestly, i doubt feng baobao's origin is much of a secret to all those who recognized her; it's just one they don't want to share. same with the jiashen calamity. maybe if the truth dies with the elders who survived it, the tragedy won't repeat. but the fact is that hiding the truth only makes people want it more, inadvertently causing a great number of tragedies along the way. truth and power are always going to be what people desire. history might repeat whether or not the truth is widely known.
and the fact is, at this point, twenty episodes in to a twenty seven episode show, i, the watcher, still have no idea what even happened during the jiashen calamity. and i mean the basic info. they briefly talked about the 36 thieves and the founding of sinister pleasure, but it was so glossed over that i feel completely lost. i want the truth too! i want the basic backstory! gong qing is a revolutionary in all the wrong places, but you can't deny that his idealism about sinister pleasure and his actions are almost that of a martyrs. he seeks a return to the golden age, a righting of wrongs. and zhang zhiwei, undeniably, stands in the way of that, because zhang zhiwei is the person with the sole ability to determine good and evil.
