My Take on Light in Death Note
So I finished Death Note two days ago and I have to say I cant get this show out of my damn head. Light Yagami... I don’t know if I should swoon over how diabolical he is or attractive ( whats a man so evil gotta do with all that sexiness?) or hate his guts. I mean he’s what kept me around for all 37 episodes by how amazed I was with his methodical mind. I was intrigued most how he so easily manipulated literally everyone around him.
His death and demise still made me cry because ultimately Kira aka Light didn’t lose. It was Teru Mikami’s fault for not trusting Light and acting without permission, or shall I say Lights mistake for trusting Teru so much.
SPOILERS IN THEORY:
So I read somewhere that someone loved the fact Light Yagami, who had it all was wealthy, had a good family, good looks, smarts, and was athletic still had a tragic ending. They were relieved to see he didn’t come from abuse, or a bad home etc... I just want to say to that theory he may on the surface “had it all” but the truth was he never did:
At the beginning of the story Light is in High School and is depressed with the monotony of his day to day life and quite literally only plays with the Death Note out of boredom and curiosity. Now notice again Light may look like he has it all but he has a dad who’s Chief of the Police and is never around. He’s excelled all his academics and even some of athletic abilities so now he has this standard of being perfect and he’s unstimulated. He doesn’t have the ability to make mistakes because of this reputation and so he manipulates his way to always winning. It’s intriguing because he’s always two steps ahead but also in real life this is a terrible coping mechanism. He also has this fucked up sense of justice from his family values and his dad being in the Police force. Also does no one notice how Light is not close to a single person in the entire show minus L? Thats not healthy, no one truly asks him if he’s doing okay, no one addresses his mental health. Also how did his dad never once notice he hacked his computer? Oh yeah like I said parents who don’t give a damn. All of Death Note could have been avoided if he had better parents in my opinion. Also Light never had someone besides L who challenge him enough to put him in his place. Let Light try that mansplaining, manipulative flirting to a modern women and watch how quick that pretty boys ego would have been bruised and put in his place. He also never truly loves a single character in the manga/show so again he’s got defensive walls so high he can never trust someone and open up thats again not healthy.
Also Pre evil Light was so cute and noble you just felt like you had to root for him. Even if I adored L his death kinda ruined the show for me, but I pushed through because I had to see how far Light could pull this off but they could of played it better.
I truly think Light was a good person before the Death Note snapped him, the first two deaths literally snapping all his morales. So i’m a bit witchy and believe in energy and dark magic and I honestly believe something as Evil as the Death Note probably did play a part on his corruption just by the power it had. The anime portrays both side of Light so well its truly convincing he’s innocent even when we know he’s not.
Also side rant the way he treats women is absolutely disgusting and again his momma clearly didn’t teach him how to respect a women... Yikes. We love you Misa Misa. <3 RIP REM.
So that being said I hear the guys who made Stranger Things are making a Live Action version of Death Note and if this is true they will finally give it some justice! I cannot wait!
I need more Death Note I cant get enough its just so good, such a great anime. I wish they would of gone more into the other Shinigami and introduced more into the earth like imagine 3 people with notebooks? This anime had so much potential beyond 37 episodes and honestly could still be continued if you think about it.
P.S why would he respect his DAD when his DAD never respected him? Lol clowns. RIP L.
