Every episode will include chocolate box village eye porn. Murder weapons have included but are not limited to: a cheese wheel, drowned in chocolate, a headless horseman and a steampunk werewolf. It sounds ridiculous but once you start, you won't be able to stop. I promsie you. The horrors: 0/10, though may leave you with a life long phobia of morris dancers and village fetes.

The Morseverse (Endeavour/Inspector Morse and Lewis)

Ah Morseverse, my beloved. The English academic elite does crime. Oxford is it's own splendorous character, with every episode crammed full of towering libraries, awe inspiring architecture and fanatically manicured, college quads. A must watch for those whose hearts belong to dark academia. Endeavour and Morse are set in the 60s/70s and 80s/90s respectively. And follow the same character, Endeavour Morse, from brilliant, blue eyed, troubled twink to brilliant, blue eyed, grumpy old man with a definite alcohol problem. (Never play drink along with Morse, it's a surefire way to get alcohol poisoning.) The baton is then passed to his sergeant, Robert Lewis in Lewis, set in the relative present (as of this post). The relationship between Inspector and Sergeant is what ultimately makes these series, be it Fred Thursday and Morse, Morse and Lewis and Lewis and James Hathaway. And you'll come to treasure them. Be prepared to leave these series with a well earned fictional degree in classical music. Murders CAN and WILL be based on obscure, literary references. The horrors: Well it depends.... I'd say Endeavour is the darkest, Lewis is the lightest with Morse settled nicely in between. If you finish this series not wanting a Jaguar Mark II, you did it wrong.

Vera

Vera Stanhope, my northumbrian queen, my geordie goddess. A middle aged plus woman, with no makeup (or two f*cks to rubs together) decked in a brown hat and mac and driving the world most beaten up land rover.... Owns everyone. And it is sooo satisfying to watch. The scenic southern eye candy of the two previous recs is replaced with the wild, isolated landscapes of the North, very much reflecting our DI. She's joined by sergeant dark and dishy and the ever more put up Kenny Lockhart, as well as host of others. But what really makes this series is Vera herself. As equally formidable as she is kind hearted, with no hint of glamour. She's the kind of female representation we both need and deserve. The horrors: Vera passive aggressively calling vicious murderers 'pet' fixes all world problems. It's scientifically proven.

Things you may have heard of:

Sherlock Holmes, the Granada edition starring Jeremy Brett. No finer Sherlock has ever graced our screens to this day (And yes, I will stand and fight for that statement.) One of the most loyal adaptations of the books ever made.

Poirot, staring David Suchet. No offence to Kenneth Branagh (Your Henry V got me through high-school English lit sir). But David Suchet is THE Prirot for me. Another loyal book adaptation. Over a 25 year period Suchet lived and breathed Poirot and it shows.

Andor season 2 Arc 3 - My review

So I just finished watching episodes 7 to 9 of season 2, and... I mostly didn't like them. And not only because of Syril's death.

I write everything as it comes to mind, this is not meant to reflect an order of importance.

You built their "friendship" with just one or two scenes, so I am not on board with Syril having concern for this woman. This is one of the many consequences of compressing 4 seasons into 1.

The Ghorman mob costumes, and overall "1940's french resistance" style

If you add the french accents, the clothes, the art nouveau/Hausmannian roofs / 1940 architecture style, guess what... You end up with a planet that looks way too much like France, and not Star Warsy enough. What did you think about it ? Poll below. Maybe it's because I am French, but that pulled me out of the show...

The mob scene "organization"

You know, after five minutes, having people that run in the middle of the plaza like headless chickens, waiting to be shot at, doesn't make sense anymore.

And it's not like I don't like it for "triggering" reasons. It's just completely out of character. You cannot paint Syril like a crybaby - OCD - office dweller in the first part of the season and have him try to choke Dedra and go full on MMA on Cassian in the second part. That's just ridiculous. Then again, the season compression looks bad . There was not enough time to properly develop Syril's character and the complications within his relationship with Dedra as she manipulates him.

So not a Force choke (which would have made little sense anyway). Denise acting is great, but the annoying thing is that we don't know at this point if Dedra knows about Syril's death, and if she's contemplating it, or the sheer horror of what she helped unfold, or both. The later would be my guess.

You might find this surprising, coming from someone who has a blog titled "Keero nutjob". But again, I have this impression that Dedra cares for Syril a lot more than he cares for her, despite her manipulating him, but this has not been correctly "built" during this compressed season. We didn't have any parting scene as he is promoted to his new post in Ghorman. We do not even know if they have been living together since she came here to supervise her operation. They seem less like "people" than in season one and more like "plot points". What a disappointment. I hope we have a lot of Dedra scenes on how she deals with the aftermath of Ghorman in the last arc.

So yeah... I feel seriously disappointed by this arc, and hope the last one will be better.

Twst event where NRC's magic goes haywire and the dorms swap themes. Like, it's still Savanaclaw, but everything is flooded, or there is a gothic castle in the middle of scarabia (the architecture is a mix between diasomnia and Scalding Sands, though).

In an effort to solve the crisis, the students must find the artifacts responsible for keeping the magic at the school. There are three different items, one in Pomefiore (the oldest dorm), Diasomnia (the dorm known for its magical prowess) and Ignihyde (they installed the system).

Crowley organized three groups:

- The dormheads for Diasomnia, the most dangerous of the three;

- The vice-housewardens for Pomefiore;

- The freshmen plus Cater, Floyd and Silver for Ignihyde.

Starting with Diasomnia, the dorm swapped with Heartslabyul, with plenty of hedgehogs and flamingos running around, as well as the regular gravity defying architecture.

As soon as the housewardens passed though the mirror, everyone but Riddle became as tiny as a mouse, which is okay, since at least they won't get separated and lost in the maze of corridors. Riddle is getting a headache from all the bickering, though.

However, Diasomnia's influence is still present, so this version of Heartslabyul is a bit creepier. Card and chess soldiers dripping with blot stalk the hallways, beautiful roses with a metallic scent bloom among the thorns, painted by headless knights. There is also the Jabberwocky wandering about.

After a near death experience (Riddle was thrown at, at least, five walls by the Jabberwocky and was almost beheaded, only to be saved by the twst version of the Bandersnatch), they decided to go to the kitchens, looking for a way to return the others to normal (or at least Malleus, whose dragon form is no bigger than Grim at the moment).

Unfortunately, there was nothing of use in the kitchens, though they did find (and fight) one of Lillia's cooking attempts, brought to life and in excruciating pain for existing.

They manage to power though by using Idia's "Riddle on-field DPS Strat", where they let Riddle fight while providing him with shields, healing and buffs. He used Zettaflare thrice.

After securing the artifact, the dorm returned to normal. Which is great, since Riddle was five seconds away from passing out.

Today was fantastic. We began by visiting the ancient ruins of Corinth and viewing the places that Paul himself visited. We then drove through the beautiful hills of Greece as we listened to some of the ancient stories of this area. We stopped to go inside Agamemnon’s remarkably preserved tomb. Finally, we traversed to the breathtaking hilltop of the Mycenae ruins. 

Not only did the ruins of Corinth show the remains of a very distinguished society, but it also showed the places that Paul himself visited in order to teach others about Jesus’s word. The archaeological site was composed of many centuries of historical architecture piled on top of each other. Of the occupiers of Corinth, the Greeks and the Romans are the most recognizably prominent. A stone temple and stone pillars demonstrate that this was one of the oldest Greek temples. We also visited the exact area in which Paul was persecuted. From the Roman occupation, headless marble statues stood with beautiful carvings. They were headless because the leaders were changing faster than the sculptures could carve their faces. 

The city of Mycenae was positioned between two beautiful rising peaks. Although the outer walls were a small portion of their former selves, much of them still remained. This allowed us to get a good picture of what the city might have looked like. Across the valley from the ruins of the city lies the tomb of Agamemnon. This was certainly the most in tact structure we’ve visited thus far. An open pathway with huge stone walls led us into the main room of the tomb. Above us stood the cylindrical ceiling of the tomb. Each stone held the weight of the other stones. This was probably my favorite part of the trip so far.
