wip tag game thingy
i got tagged by the lovely @sothischickshe to do the wip tag game thingy but idk what the rules are so im just gonna do whatever
chlorine aka swimming pool!AU. im having fun with this one but it’s a very slow process and im only barely grasping the plot. like, i thought it’d be one thing -- a petty rivalry, smutty enemies-to-lovers type of thing all packed into a fun little au, quick and easy -- but as i started writing it it got so complicated bc these silly little characters completely changed their backstory on me and now im trying to untangle what the hell is going on w them and also im pouncing on the possibilities for angst-injection, bc of course. basically i wrote myself into a corner and idk how to get out and it’s nowhere near the light and breezy fic i thought it would be. like at the start i thought maybe i could write it in a week. reader, it’s been months
hands, knees, please, tangerine aka grocery store!AU, might end up getting a fourth chapter idek. havent worked on it in a long time. the other day i worked on it a liiiittle but not enough to snap me out of my writer’s blockeque type of hole
married!brio pwp which i’ll probably never finish but it’s a nice document to throw all my horny thoughts into
the initiator aka the instigator follow-up i’ll never finish... or will i (i type, knowing full well i havent touched it in forever)
fwb-to-lovers fic, which was supposed to be the next multichapter thing i write (like, warm water length) but i’ll probably never get to it
faking it aka a beth/rhea fic with a side of beth/rio but really rio is irrelevant. i havent started this but ive been thinking about that plot i drew up for that ask game and..... im intrigued
im tagging @mrslackles, @septiembrre, @fairhairedkings, @riosnecktattoo, @medievalraven and @blizabrth to also do this if you feel like it (no pressure ofc)

I haven’t had as much time as I’d hoped to get stuck in with @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange yet, but from the fraction of the 105 (🎉🎉🎉) fics I have been able to read, a few recs:
Book canon
Innocent This is my gift fic and I’m obsessed. The author did more with my prompt than I could’ve hoped for, their style packs a hell of a lot of punch into a pretty condensed space — I love how they weight emotional/physical/reflective responses — and takes up complex issues (gender! Morality! Innocence! Trauma!) and handles them deftly all whilst also giving a post-LSH Brienne space she needs to grieve, and rage, and be bloody exhausted, and also be perfectly Brienne through it all: grappling with all she’s been through and all she wants to be and all she wants to still believe. so, like, ALL THAT, whilst ALSO having these pitch perfect notes of the relationship she has with Jaime, the relationship Jaime has with her, and how those two things need to come a bit more into alignment if they’re to move forward, and then a *chef’s kiss* of an ending that made me melt and punch the air in equal measure, as it hit a particular target of mine with precision. There’s also a very cathartic scene wherein some stuff happens but I don’t want to give it away but have been thinking about it pretty nonstop since it was posted...! ~enigmatic~ It was just all superb. This recommendation is roughly as coherent as my comment ~1.5 weeks ago, which maybe gives you an idea as to the feelings the fic instills. All in all, WORTH YOUR TIIIMMMEMEMEEE.
that would be enough  This fic!!! It is snappy, and I adored the Brienne and Jaime of this fic. The author captures a whole hell of a lot with the fewest of words (truly, how!!!) and it navigates, again, a post-LSH JB, and that complex thing between JB in a way that feels utterly visceral and true. Leaning into the profundity of their feelings for one another whilst also allowing how terrible they both are at speaking to said feelings, rather both being people of action and trying their best even when things don’t go exactly as they’d hoped (and sometimes even when they do), it’s just a damn satisfying read. There are these character notes throughout that I just wanted to linger in, and have done, on re-read, and anticipate doing time and again. It really is just a pleasure of a read that will nestle into you and linger.
Alternate universes
Love Isn’t a Sprint, It’s a Marathon  This fic is SO MUCH FUN. There are so many clever and delightful easter eggs and overlays from Jaime and Brienne’s Riverrun road trip onto a marathon (!) our two favourite dummies are running in modern Westeros, and it’s fucking GREAT. There are laugh out loud gags and moments, and emotional/romantic beats which land just when you want them, and the author’s style is pacy (running pun intended; this fic taught me things) and just carries you along so pleasingly. It also gifted me with visions of Jaime in a perfectly tussled bun and tight jogging outfit (in Lannister colours, ofc), and Brienne in her favourite blue sports bra, and to the author I say: thank you. The, hm, confounding (to Brienne) history between JB in this ‘verse is revealed throughout the fic, which works so well in conjunction with how the marathon experience is progressing their relationship, building up a satisfying tension between them and rewarding us with a fantastic end. I don’t want to give too much away, so have some emoji in lieu of spoilers: 🥳😍😂😍🔥🎉 🎉🎉😍🥰 also to this introvert, Brienne’s way of interacting with strangers on a marathon course is SO relatable, my god. This is one of those stories that just leaves you happy.
when the sun is coming through, you fill my head with you  This fic is a modern reconciliation/second chances fic with a great premise, and I basically had a meltdown about the author’s prose. It is STUNNING. The fic looks at a JB separated by several years after a botched (or was it?) overture made just before one of them leaves town. Brienne, soaked to the bone and injured after defending a person from four (4) muggers turns up on Jaime’s doorstep one night unannounced. Me, loving this: she went to him because she knew he’d look after her even after all this time 😭😭😭 Things proceed apace from there, and as I said in my comment: Jaime throughout all of this is this wonderful blend of capturing that energy he has with a softness that feels very true to the heart of him. And Brienne! There’s a line in the fic specifically about her which just... yes. The author also manages a really interesting spin on the “I’m strong enough” line, which I went head over heels for. Also I made so many noises while reading over the prose alone but it isn’t just beautiful (it is beautiful), it also weaves so well through character and the situation and omggggg. Make a cuppa and spend some time with this fic, it’s well worth it.
Multichapters
So I’m mostly saving multichapters at the moment, I did get involved in these two, both AUs:
The Shooting Party (complete) Another fic which made me lose my damn mind. The conceit is wonderful and fun and it was played to perfection, but honestly it was the way these two were written here which got me. Set in 1912 on a holiday weekend at the Stark estate, Brienne asks Jaime to pretend to be courting her in order to put off the man her father is bringing as a potential suitor: Hyle Hunt. Jaime agrees, with one two caveats. My comment on this fic was borderline incoherent but possibly the only sensible thing I said was that the author had got to the very heart of Brienne in her POV (she is the sole POV), was written with such evident love for the character, and it was just such pure joy to read. Everything we got of Jaime, too, was just exactly as one (me) might hope, particularly of the circumstances in the fic. I love him always, but particularly here 💖 Truly I literally finished reading this fic only a little while ago and am still processing but Y’ALL. I wanted to live there forever, I was stunned joyful. AND THE AUTHOR’S STYLE! Such a pleasure, my god. This fic expanded in my chest, and I’m trying to keep cozy that joyous feeling as long as possible.
Way Enough (WIP) Currently a WIP, this modern AU follows Brienne and Jaime as they reunite after years apart: the central setting so far has been a rowing boat house, and the author is incredibly evocative with their descriptions of... well everything, honestly, but the loving way they describe rowing is really such a pleasure to read. Jaime and Brienne in this is also great: a particular dynamic I always enjoy wherein Jaime is just so overjoyed to see Brienne again, and Brienne is, too, but in a far more reserved and tentative way. We’ve so far has two out of five chapters posted, but I’m really looking forward to where it’s going.

Author Interview
I was tagged by @sleepswithvillains . I’ve never been tagged much before so this is kind of new for me, but I love it! Tag me all the time! Also you did it again, where I got the Tumblr notification like right as I went to bed, but my sleep schedule is so wack right now.
Tagging: @guardianofrivendell @moriamithril @sunflower1000 and really whoever wants to do it. Drop me a tag if you decide to do it because I definitely want to see what you have to say!
I have a lot of unfinished fics and not a lot of published works in comparison.
1. Name: The Merriweather Mage (Tumblr)/ RinzlersGhost (AO3)
2. Fandoms: LOTR/The Hobbit, The Witcher (TV), SWTOR/Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Twilight, Underworld (though I’m not active in most of them unless I’m hyper-fixating)
3. Where you post: AO3, Tumblr, and I have an inactive FF.NET account
4. Most popular oneshot: People seem to have a real affinity for Meleth-nin/My Love. I actually hated writing it, because I was in such a bad place after receiving news that my childhood dog had died, but I don’t hate the fic itself.
5. Most popular multichapter: Every Kitten Has Claws which is a Geralt X Druid Fem!Reader. 25 Kudos, 3 bookmarks, 517 hits. Followed by Turuhalme in the Greenwood which is Thranduil X Fem!Reader. 9 Kudos, 1 bookmark, 270 hits. Both contain 18+ Content.
6. Actual worst part of writing: I legitimately hate writing fight scenes. I’m horrible at them and most of my fics contain some sort of fight scene obnoxiously enough. Although the best advice I ever saw on here was to keep your fight scenes short because not very many people are interested in a long drawn out detailed fight scene.
7. Favorite story you wrote: Bards & Beans Coffee Co. Elrond X Fem!Reader. Was the first time I’d ever written anything in the second person. I based it off of a dream I had about meeting Elrond in a coffee shop. I planned it, wrote it, and posted it in the span of four days. It’s basically as if Middle Earth exists on the other side of meridian locks, and it’s set during the War of the Ring but with some of the characters from the Hobbit so the timelines are pretty pushed together. Your side of the meridian locks has a Earth that is basically a continuous strip of land that varies from high-tech futuristic ports all the way down to medieval ports. Basically the farther North you go, the more high tech and futuristic the land becomes. Quite a shock for those who would have never been to the other side of the locks. 18+ Content.
8. Story you were nervous to post: Most likely all of them. Any of my Twilight work though, I always hesitate about publishing. Sometimes it’s because the stories are close to my heart, but I also know that the fandom can be rabid. Most of the interactions I’ve ever had with Twilight blogs are fine, but there’s a lot of discourse about Twilight right now, and while I appreciate that most people are in the right (the issue with the Quileute tribe, the Cullen’s as villains, Jasper and the Confederacy, the actual legitimacy of the Volturi as a ruling body, etc), this is actually one of the reasons I left the fandom from a writing/following POV. (There are many, many things that are wrong with Twilight and not from a literature point of view. For example, Meyers took a real life Native American tribe and treated them highly unfairly in the books, to the point of calling them dogs which isn’t very fair at all, and they have received no compensation for being used and they are risk in the place they live in now. If you have some time and money, I would recommend checking out the Quileute Move to Higher Ground project.)
9. How you choose your titles: For story titles, I like to choose the main theme or a main phrase that is used. For chapter titles, I either don’t title or I will chose something that is a main part of the chapter.
10. Complete works: Out of the 21 works I have on AO3, 18 of them are completed, although one is an open ended and may be reopened after I get some of the larger works out of my way. As for fics in general that I haven’t published or have published on other platforms, there is 2 of 5 complete works on FF.NET. Some of those stories I will be pulling and deleting. The two complete works will be migrating to AO3.
11. Incomplete works: Actively: Sadril-nin/My Loyal One, A Hunter’s Circlet, and Beauty in Brokenness (unpublished for now). I have a few other inactive LOTR/The Hobbit based fics that I might try to finish after the main two are finished. Inactive: Literally too many to count. I mean, when I wrote my goodbye to the Twilight fandom, I said that I had been writing for the fandom for nearly nine years. I have so many unfinished Twilight fics, well over 100.
12. Do you outline: Not usually. I’m at the point with Sadril-nin right now where I’m literally following a map of Middle Earth and cataloguing the journey across the map, so I guess that could be considered an outline. Mostly if I’m writing for LOTR/The Hobbit, I want to follow the timeline of progression for the story that’s already been written. I do have a little bit of leeway in that gap between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings though.
13. Coming soon ideas, maybe? I’ve been giving you a taste of Beauty in Brokenness. I do intend to publish it, but it’s a constant struggle to rework it. I have ideas that I want to cement in the story that don’t always come out the way I want them to, so I am consistently reworking parts of it all the time. I will also be rewriting (eventually) Crown of Thorns, which is Pirates of the Caribbean fanfic, Lord Beckett X Siren!OFC. I also appreciate the idea of Nestadion X Centaur Fem!Reader, but instead of being a centaur all the time, you’re actually a shifter who can turn into a centaur. Really confuses a warrior elf to see what amounts to a small human carrying this massive two handed sword around and calling him “princess” all the time.
14. Ask me anything: Is there anything you miss in fanfic? In comparison to the actual book/movie? Not really. I appreciate the original works, but I recognize that they can be flawed and so can their authors/writers. Which is why fanfic is so appealing-- everyone has a different spin on the original; everyone has a different take on the characters, everyone writes differently, and that’s the fascinating part to me. The only downside, of course with any fanfic, is the fandom and it can be hit or miss with people. It is what it is, and the liberty of fanfic is that not everyone is going to like or enjoy your works, and the same goes for your tastes. Are there right or wrong opinions? I don’t know; I’ve both read and written some morally ambiguous fics, and some I would like to forget that I very much haven’t.
15. Best writing traits: Same as the worst writing traits. I’m a sucker for detail. I love it. I want my readers to see it like I do. When I read books or play D&D or play video games, I see it like I’m in a movie. When I write, I want you to see it like you’re on set and the cameras are rolling and you are perfectly prepared. I want you to feel like you are in the story, which is why my oneshots turn into series, and my multi-chapter fics turn into novel length stories. I find it obnoxious at times, because I feel like I can’t ever turn it off, but by the feedback I get, some of y’all really enjoy it, so let’s get this show on the road.
16. Upcoming Story You Are Most Excited to Write: Uhhhh, let me go browse my WIP folder. I’ve put quite a bit of research into rewriting Crown of Thorns and making it slightly more historically accurate. I know that there will be a Part 2 to Sadril-nin, because I’m not going to time skip a seventy/eighty year gap between the timelines of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. And I really don’t want to submit y’all to this absolutely massive story all jam-packed into one fic. Other than that, I’m also sitting on Through Hellfire and High Waters, which is another Elrond X Reader fic that follows the premise of a modern/medieval world all smashed into one. The Queen of Eryn Galen also needs a proper ending and to be published, a Thranduil X OFC fic; this one will also have a Part 2.
17. Spicy Tangential Opinion: I don’t care if my writing makes the characters out of character. I try to tag that if I can, but let’s be real here. Either I’m writing a character that originally has a limited backstory and a very real chance at an open-ended future, or I didn’t like the canon character and I’m rejecting that reality and replacing it with my own. Does it mean that I don’t or am refusing to recognize character flaws? No, and that’s the beauty of fanfic. You can do whatever you want. You might get hate for it or you might not. For example, I am a fan of Severus Snape (RIP Alan Rickman). Does his character have flaws? Yes. Do I like the way he was canonically written? No. Are his actions justifiable? Hell no. Is that going to stop me from being a fan? Again, no. He is arguably one of the most disagreed upon character of that series. I don’t see a need to defend why I write him the way I do. I don’t see a need to defend him in discourse, and I’m certainly not going to be hateful about it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about it. Yes, there was probably some underlying intent when the character was written. I’m not here (unless you’re specifically asking my opinion on it) I’m not here to read in between the lines with characters like Snape. I do not care enough to lose friends over opinions like that.

I wasn’t tagged, but I’ll take the invitation from @theghostcaptain and just hop on the train to answer some questions about my writing. So, I guess thanks are in order? 😉❤️
AO3: @Procrastynol
Fandoms
Currently I’m trapped in the MDZS hell (focusing on songxiao, but pretty much everything else is also go, wangxian, 3zun, anything) with a side of SVSSS and FF7 (mainly tsengru and/or turks centric). I’m still working my way through the huge load of danmei, so maybe things like TGCF, 2HA or SPL will soon join the list.
Other things I can’t seem to let go of include FF15, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and a hint of Marvel and Star Wars. If you want to go really far back, you can add LotR and Hobbit to the pile.
Where You Post
You can find all of my fics on AO3 @Procrastynol
I rarely use tumblr anymore, mostly for keeping all the links to my fics organised in one place - and to read meta that will shred my poor heart. My main social media is Twitter, so if you want to yell at me, please go over there and feel free to do so.
Most Popular Oneshot
Conflict of Interest (FF7, tsengru, domestic fluff and dogs)
I started this one on a whim in August 2020 because A) the hype for FF7 Remake was real and B) plague times, yay! It got me back into writing fanfiction after not having done so for several years, and I’m still surprised how positively it has been received among the people who read FF7 fanfictions. A follow-up is currently in its early drafting state.
Most Popular Multichap
None (so far). But I have something brewing for my songxiao gang, so I’ll just be a little tease and tell you to stay tuned for more until Summer 2021. 😉
Favourite Story You’ve Written So Far
Untethered (MDZS, songxiao, character study xxc)
That is my November/December/Christmas-procrastination baby, which started out as a midnight word vomit I wrote in a desperate attempt to find sleep. It only grew from there, and it has become my first deep dive into the character of Xiao Xingchen and the canon setting of MDZS. To this day, it just blows me away how well this story is received despite its length and the rather limited songxiao bubble. I’m really proud of what I did here, and it has been a while since I could say that about anything I have written.
Fic You Were Nervous to Post
Frostbloom Flowers (MDZS, modern songxiao, flowershop AU)
This was my absolute first fic for the fandom, and my second fic in total after the unexpected “success” of Conflict of Interest. I was so scared to get the characters or the setting wrong, even more so since this was a prompt fill for the songxiao Secret Santa event. It has done surprisingly well, so well actually, that I have turned this into a series that I will continue this February.
How You Choose Your Titles
They either come to me or the don’t. Really, there is almost nothing in between. Sometimes a poem, a line, a lyric, an image, SOMETHING sparks my imagination and the title is the first thing I have.
If it is the other way around, the idea usually revolves around a certain dialogue, scene, setting, etc. that I want to explore and I really struggle finding a title for it once the fic is finished. There are rare instances where a title comes to me simply while working on a fic, but mostly it’s hit or miss. If it is the latter, I usually sit in my room and decide to name stories after the first thing my eyes land on 5 minutes before posting them. 😅
Do You Outline
90% of times I do. Especially larger works or multichaps need an outline. I sometimes try to write non-chronologically, and I have a really hard time doing it, so the outline becomes my LIFELINE. It allows me to skip over parts I find hard and just put the famous [get there] in certain spaces, knowing I can come back later to flesh them out because the outline guides through this process.
For oneshots, I sometimes freestyle, but even then I usually write down a few lines for the scenes/dialogues I really want to include and put them in the corresponding order, so I have a goal to work towards to and don’t start meandering around.
I hate doing them, though, even though I largely depend on outlines.
Complete
All of my fics are complete at the moment, but I have two on-going series that I’m feeding with new entries in irregular intervals.
In Progress
I have some WIPS, but none of them are in the process of being published right now. But there are a few things I’m working on, so follow me to the next paragraph if you want more details on that. 😁
Coming Soon / Not Yet Started
Curiosity killed the Cat [WT] - which is a MDZS multichapter fic I have started working on last December. I really wanted to try writing a case fic for once, something more than just drama and romance (although drama and romance will still be very much part of this). Plotting a murder mystery is really new to me and sometimes exhausting, but so far I’m having a lot of fun doing it. I don’t want to spoil the details, but it will definitely focus on pre-canon songxiao and a mysterious haunting/murder they encounter during their travels.
Another thing would be the continuation of the Egret Flower series. Currently I’m finalising the second part, writing on part three and four has already begun. Part two will feature songxiao going on the date that has been teased in the first part, Frostbloom Flowers, and part three is currently giving me a hard time because I decided to include some wangxian - we’ll see how it goes.
I’m also trying to feed the Shinra fandom a bit, since it got me back into writing literally days before I got swept away by MDZS and danmei hell. But tsengru still holds a place in my heart, has done so for years, and so Conflict of Interest has now also been turned into a series, It’s me or the Dog, and the second part for this series is also outlined already and just waiting for me to flesh it out.
Upcoming Work You’re Most Excited About
Curiosity killed the Cat [WT], definitely. I have only ever finished one other multichap in my life, and I plan to complete this one before I start posting it, to feed my lovely songxiaoists in regular intervals (and to make sure this entire case fic works and does not go up in smoke halfway down). But since this involves so many new things for me at the same time, I’m equally excited and anxious to finish it and start posting it.
Tagging
Since I’m pretty much inactive on this platform I find it a bit hard to tag someone. I think @wangji-string might have something to offer, at least if they haven’t participated already (although if you don’t feel like doing this, please feel free to ignore me). I’ll just leave it open to the rest of you whoever read this and may find it interesting - if you want to do this, please, feel free to do it! 😉

Fic Writer Interview
Thank you for the tag @deacons-wig!! :)
Tagging in turn: @pchberrytea, @diredigression, @gingerbreton, @tanaleth, @valkyriejack if you’d like! No pressure if you don’t! Name: Megh
Fandoms: I really only write for Fallout, but casually partake in other fandoms (like Crit Role, Mass Effect, DA).
Where you post: AO3, which you can find right here. I don’t post full fics on Tumblr, but do include links to them on AO3. Any WIP memes like WIP Wednesday or similar deals are posted on my Tumblr.
Most Popular One-shot: No Rest For the Wicked - a sort of pining thing about Deacon showing up to MacCready and Natasha’s place after the fall of the Institute and some sleepy encounters putting Deacon in close proximity with the pair he’s maybe sort of secretly in like with. Overtures of future polyamory and all that. Your gateway drug into my favorite OT3.
Most Popular Multichap: Bring the Gasoline - my multichapter, in-progress slow-burn MacCready x Sole Survivor fic. Here’s a summary for you:
“Six months, huh? How much fast talking did you do to get here?” “Enough to keep me alive.”
“Really? Cause you don’t act like that’s your goal half the time. Hell, you throw yourself at everything like you’re jumping off a cliff.”
Sole survivor Natasha Sokolova is burning through friends faster than she can make them. Robert Joseph MacCready needs all the caps he can get. Problem is, the smooth-talking woman with a pistol and a job offer turns out to be more trouble than he’s counting on. They’re a match made in hell, but their little partnership might be the only thing that can see them through it.
Favorite story you’ve written so far: Bring the Gasoline is my baby, but so far I think I’ve had the most fun writing No Rest for the Wicked. It was the first thing I posted, nobody really knew I was working on it, and there were zero expectations about it. It was something I wrote purely because I wanted to and no other reason. It was also a huge sigh of relief for me to even hint at what the endgame of Bring the Gasoline is like because I’d been hermit drafting for a year while keeping my trap shut about most of what happens.
Fic you were nervous to post: All of them, every single one.  I was a bit nervous about In the Name of Love because it’s sort of an awkward situation. My goal was to balance the awkwardness with tenderness and show a sort of realistic moment where the OT3 have a little hiccup getting used to each other, but they’re helping each other through it. Not everybody’s cup of tea, but I do like how it turned out.
I was also super nervous about We Never Go Anywhere Nice because I’ve never done a gift fic before, and I was kind of trying to do a lot within one oneshot. Naturally, it turned out to be far longer than I initially envisioned, but I’m happy I tried my hand at it.
How do you choose your titles: Whatever strikes me. I try to do something thematic. For my BtG chapter titles, I try to play to themes or something a character says that sort of embodies the idea of that chapter. For my one shots, I’m okay going a little cheesier.
Do you outline: Yes, I do, but I’m sort of ass backwards about it. I have three different outlines going on within each other like some sort of 3D chess operation. I have a pre-outline, which is the outline before I draft the chapter, usually broad or tentative plans with some specifics but not a ton. Then I have my working copy, which is literally in brackets within the document I’m typing the chapter in, and then I delete it out as I progress pass those plot points. And then, when I’m doing revisions, I bullet point every single little detail into a document called “Actual Outline”. I do this specifically in between drafts as a way for me to find plot holes and fill gaps, or see where things maybe need to be changed. Sounds a little backwards, I know, but it has really, really helped my editing process. There’s color-coding for who’s POV it is, and a scene-by-scene breakdown.
Complete: I have two complete one shots, and a third completed three-chapter “one shot”. But, the series those are nested in is ongoing and has no definitive end. It’s just sort of as I feel like it right now.
In progress: Bring the Gasoline is the only major fic I have in progress. I do one shots as they sprout in my brain, but I don’t have any in progress right now. My main focus is getting edited ahead one chapter on BtG so posting comes a little easier in the future.
Coming soon/not yet started: BtG chapter five is about halfway through a new draft, though I’ll want a new draft of chapter six before posting it. I’m making steady headway there. I have a very smutty WIP in mind for the OT3 with a special focus on Nat/Deacon. The prompt is that the two of them are spending a weekend away together, but MacCready has left some specific instructions as to how he wants them to spend some of that time. Like I said, it’s smutty, but I also want it to be sort of emotionally smutty. I wanted to write the OT3s first time together before writing any other smutty one shots for them, but realistically, I need to finish BtG before that could really happen, because spoilers, so it’s this domino effect waiting game. Which...makes me want to just go ahead and write the smutty one shot anyway. So, maybe. We’ll see. 👀 I also have another idea (also smutty) that might be a one-shot or a scene in a future fic. Basically, Nat and Mac and trying to have some intimacy but Deacon is staying with them which makes things tricky. So they seize the opportunity when he’s stepped out for a sec...but, maybe he’s not gone so long as they were thinking.
Prompts?: I sometimes use prompts as a springboard of inspiration, but I’ve found I’m no good with requests. I have a hard time writing something that I’m not personally excited about.
Upcoming work you’re most excited about: I am really excited about the Gunners plotline for Bring the Gasoline. It’s my first real foray into canon divergence, and the arc I finished for NaNoWriMo last year, so it’s sort of near and dear to me. And it’s right around the corner - not so far as readers might think!  👀
This is so, sofar away, but I also have tentative plans that are starting to have some framework for a multi-chapter fic on how the OT3 get together after Bring the Gasoline. I have a secret wish that this could be my NaNo project next year, but that would involve getting a lot done with BtG, so we’ll see.

Fic Writer Interview
Uh, holy crap. I’m a fic writer now. I’m honestly still getting used to that.
Tagged by @catherineflowers29, which made my day!
Name: Robin
Fandoms: I’ve only posted fic for JB, though the major one was the Star Wars AU (with a soupcon of AtLA influence) that I kind of feel like my whole fandom life was leading up to.
Where you post: AO3. I read plenty of fic in the LJ/ffn days, and there are things I miss about lj, but AO3 is just so nice and welcoming
Most popular one-shot: The data nerd in me doesn’t think I can make conclusions from the numbers I have. Not least because altogether I posted one finished multichapter, two one-shots for the exchanges, and the first part of another multichap. So, I mean, Love Isn’t a Sprint, It’s a Marathon wins by numbers. But I was absolutely bowled over by the reception to that one too. Granted, N06: Radical Red has been posted for less than 24 hours but I imagine the marathon fic will still outpace it (har har har) in the long run (HAR).
Most popular multi-chapter: Okay, You Happened to Me is the technical answer, but there’s definitely enough data for this one because I only finished one. And it’s a nerdy genre AU and my first posting to AO3. So technically it’s my most popular multichap but I don’t expect it will remain so for long. It’s near and dear to my heart but it’s niche as hell and I have accepted that.
Fic you were nervous to post:  Hm. I mean, I didn’t know what to expect when I posted the prologue for YHtM lo these many moons ago, but I didn’t feel nervous per se as I was an unknown writer and didn’t feel the weight of any expectations-- it was an experiment, and a hobby, so if it didn’t work out no harm no foul, right? I was a little nervous to post Marathon, just because fic exchanges bring with them the niggling fear that you might let down your prompter, but my prompts were broad enough that I assumed they probably wouldn’t get upset. And I posted the first chapter of Questions of Science and Progress basically on a whim a couple weeks ago when I needed a dopamine hit. So by process of elimination, that leaves Radical Red, which honestly caused me more angst in the writing than in the posting. I wanted really badly to not fuck it up-- I love GNC characterizations of both Jaime and Brienne so that’s why I took on the project, but I just really really wanted to do it justice. Fortunately for me @nossbean was there to pass on her hard-earned wisdom, which was “you’re doing too much and not enough at the same time.” By the time I got to the fourth draft I felt like I had a handle on it, thanks almost entirely to her notes. Though there was a fair bit of wailing and teeth-gnashing between drafts 2 and 3.
How do you choose your titles?: Titles never seem to be as much of a problem as summaries (CURSE YOU SUMMARY BOX) but now that I think of it all four titles have been different methods. YHtM came when I was browsing a list of Mara Jade quotes, and then I proceeded to use her lines at the top of all the chapters. Marathon came when I did a search for corny lines equating relationships with running. Questions of Science came after I wrote in all-caps at the top of my outline DO NOT USE COLDPLAY LYRICS FOR A TITLE and then was like but what if I used Coldplay lyrics for my title? And Radical Red came from the research I did into recommendations for red lipstick. (I rejected “Fire and Ice” and “Dragon Girl” which while also the names of lipstick shades seemed a bit on the nose.)
Do you outline? Sort of? I have a habit of starting things as bullet outlines so that @nossbean can scream at/with me, but I’m pretty bad at following them. The Star Wars AU very much started this way because at the time I didn’t know if I’d actually write it, so it was more a proof of concept (and then I kept having branching theories about where to take the plot but that’s another story). I outlined Marathon just to make sure the pacing (har) worked. Questions of Science was outlined by virtue of the constraint I chose by addressing the JB week prompts in order. Radical Red was written pretty stream of consciousness because I didn’t know what I was doing. And most of the upcoming stuff was disgorged onto the page during NaNo so that’ll be interesting to work with.
Complete: Three (!)
Do you take prompts?: hah, I’m not a big name enough to be offered prompts, and I am more than okay with it. I’ve gotten inspired for some WIPs from Discord conversations a few times, and both exchanges were technically prompted.
In-progress: The remaining six parts of Questions of Science are all drafted, with the next three in better shape than the back half. WIPs I haven’t posted but am seriously working on (or at least thinking about) include the Welcome to Night Vale thing that entertained the hell out of me during NaNo but now I have to make it entertaining for others, the J/B/O Singin’ in the Rain thing that I’m still experimenting with but the opening seems to be working, and oh right episode 2 of the Star Wars AU (I really want to get to the end of that one, I’m so excited about the climax... but I have to care about everything that comes before first). I have three other things I wrote parts of during NaNo (a ballet thing, some high-concept ghost thing, and a too-angsty thing about Jaime’s attempts to be a parent). And I’d rather not talk about the “other ideas” file.
I’ve seen a lot of people post these, and I have not been up to date on tumblr lately, so if you see this and want to do it, consider yourself tagged!

fic rec meme: 2019 edition
Rules: Post links (Ao3, ff.net, etc.); specify fandom/pairing/etc; don’t answer the same fic twice - spread the appreciation; tag other people; you don’t have to answer all the questions, but leave them in the list so the next person can answer if they want.
I was tagged by I think a couple people - @aphrodaisyacs and @aninfinitenumberofmonkeys. I’m going to try to keep this pretty short because I have a tendency to go on and then not finish these kinds of things because I overwhelm myself.
I also cheated a bit on a few (a lot) of these because I read a lot of really good fic this year. And tried to include some recs I haven’t seen from others in my circle/fics I don’t see recced that often (though that’s not true of all of them).
I also shuffled things around so I didn’t repeat them, though a lot of these could be included in more than one category.
1. Favourite complete fic you’ve read this month (multiple chapters/parts): I did not read a single complete multichapter fic this month. Meant to, but didn’t do it.
2. Favourite complete fic you’ve read this month (one-shot): The mirror has a mirror in its teeth by deadendtracks. Peaky Blinders, Tommy/Lizzie, messy as hell in the way that I love.
3. Favourite WIP you’ve read this month: But I’ve read so many good WIPs this month. I’ll go with Contraction by NamelessDragon, MCU, Loki/Bucky, sequel to Compression (also amazing), which I’m finally catching up on after being stuck on reading almost everything for months.
4. One fic/series you’ve read which you keep coming back to again and again: (those yesterdays bleeding through by wnnbdarklord (MCU, time loop set during The Dark World) comes to mind, as, of course, does Bargaining by proantagonist (alas! for its vanishing), but to pick one that kept coming up this year I’m going to have to go with the nine in the tree by bereft_of_frogs, MCU, Thor & Loki-centric, post-Ragnarok AU.
5. Most underrated fic you’ve read this year: It feels like cheating to do this for a small book fandom, but you know what? My small book fandoms deserve more love. Based on lowest kudos I’m going to go with that he on dry land loveliest liveth by skyvehicle, Lymond Chronicles, post-Pawn in Frankincense.
6. Most underrated fic you’ve read EVER: God, I don’t know. Again, it would be a small book fandom. You know? Because it deserves it and I love it and it probably is the most underrated fic, if only because it’s in a tiny fandom - In Memoriam by Tedronai, Malazan: Book of the Fallen, I love grief/mourning fic.
7. Favourite whump/angst fic of the year: This was tough since this is the genre I read most of in general, but because I managed to get a lot of fics on here via other categories, I’m choosing Into the earth I trampled it down by deadendtracks, Peaky Blinders, grief/mourning featuring Polly and Tommy. This fic was ouch all around, and beautifully written, and excellently characterized, and just...well, I’m clearly going to be reading everything that deadendtracks writes from here on out.
But I’m also going to slide In Cold Blood by NamelessDragon (MCU, Loki & Bucky, canon divergence AU) on here too, because it just updated and it really is fantastic, and I am so excited for more. It has all my favorite tropes written all over it, and promises some truly excellent whump based on the writer’s history.
8. Favourite hurt/comfort fic of the year: Again, a category with a lot of faves, but I settled on Walked In These Quiet Hazes by ratsats, MCU, AU where Loki comes back from the dead and is majorly fucked up, as is most everyone else. It’s rough, and it’s beautiful. And calling it “hurt/comfort” is probably...well, it takes a while to get to the comfort, I can say that, but it’s worth it.
9. Favourite fluff fic of the year: Did I. Did I read any fluff this year? I suppose some of the Good Omens fic I read probably qualifies, though it doesn’t feel like fluff to me so much as...comedy? Wait, I’ve got one: Love Wounds Me With Soft Pillows by verbaepuchellae, Lymond Chronicles, Francis/Philippa, post-Checkmate.
Oh yes, after I wrote this I found another one: such surpassing brightness by Handful_of_Silence, Good Omens, Crowley/Aziraphale. Beautifully inventive, and fits into a very specific genre I can’t get enough of.
11. Favourite smut fic of the year: Shockingly, I didn’t read a lot of smut this year. I’m going to go with The Beast That Chose It’s Own Bridle by thespectaclesofthor, Doctrine of Labyrinths, Felix/Murtagh, post-series, (less than) kink negotiation, WIP.
Oh, and also Chains of Gold by Anonymous, Lymond Chronicles, Lymond/Gabriel, hoo boy. My glorious Lymond/Gabriel fic I received for Yuletide. I can’t wait to find out who wrote it so I can lie down on their doorstep and beg for them to write more like this.
10. Favourite gen fic of the year: The Thanos Problem by Ranowa, MCU, post-Ragnarok AU. Okay, this is technically a series, so sue me. I especially liked When the Hammer Falls.
12. Favourite fix-it fic of the year/ever: This might be the hardest one. I read a lot of fix-it fic this year. I wonder why. I’m going with “the year” because otherwise it is just far too overwhelming and I couldn’t choose.
After a lot of debate with myself, and by eliminating other fic by virtue of sliding it into other categories, I settled on two: the only soul I’ve ever saved by valkyrisms, MCU, Loki survives Infinity War fix-it. I overall got pretty quickly annoyed with the genre of Loki-and-Peter Parker fics, but this one was just...so good. The Peter voice was amazing, the working with Loki’s Jotun biology as part of the whump was inspired, it was well written as all of valkyrisms work is, and just...so good.
The other (I told you I was cheating!) is Keep It In Your Sights Now by LuckyDiceKirby, Shades of Magic, Lila/Kell/Holland, fix-it fic. I needed this fic in two ways - the threesome it involves, and the fix-it it involves. Delivered on both.
13. Favourite crack-fic fic of the year: I really don’t read crack-fic anymore.
14. Favourite sick-fic this year: Castaway by ariaadagio, Lucifer, Chloe/Lucifer, is me cheating again because “sick-fic” it is only loosely, but I want to include it because it was very good. Though I think technically I reread it this year. Apparently I didn’t read much sick-fic? Weird.
15. Favourite kid-fic this year: Another thing I don’t read very often, and apparently this year (at least based on my bookmarks) don’t have a rec for.
15. Fic this year which you didn’t expect to love as much as you do:  Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach by Nnm, Good Omens, therapy fic. Okay, so, in premise and everything this did have “me” written all over it. But I certainly didn’t expect to find it, and I definitely didn’t expect it to be as good as it was, right down to making me love an OC (which is rare).
16. Fic which convinced you to ship a pairing: This is cheating because technically it was another fic on this list, but since I wouldn’t ship it without it I’m going to rec As much what it is as what it’s not by deadendtracks, Peaky Blinders, Tommy/Lizzie.
17. Favourite AU you’ve read this year: I slid some of my fix-it fics over here, because canon divergence AUs are my jam and maybe that wasn’t the intent of this question but I don’t care.
After some debate with myself, and rereading several favorites, I’m settling on my fearful trip is done by valkyrisms, MCU, the one where Steve runs into an unexpected child of Thanos in Wakanda. It’s real good, you guys. And yes, this does mean that I’ve put two valkyrisms fics on this list and I’m not sorry.
18. Longest fic/series you’ve read this year: This one’s easy! Eden!verse by ImprobableDreams900, Good Omens, Crowley/Aziraphale, the first fic in the series made me cry more than anything I’ve read in years.
19. The last fic you’ve read: The last new fic I read, since I reread a bunch of new things on this list while I was sorting through what I was going to choose, was to prove they are not dead by alreadybroken.
20. Wildcard fic you haven’t mentioned but deserves a shout-out + why: I waffled back and forth between two fics and what the hell, you know what, I’m going with both. The first is Miles to Go by josiepug, Peaky Blinders, which satisfied my desperate Tommy whump itch (for a time, it’s back now); the second is Where Is the Power That Made Your Pride? by Drag0nst0rm, The Silmarillion, aka the one where Celegorm lives and things are still bad. Not an AU I knew I wanted, but I guess I’m not surprised.
Bonus Category:
Best horror fic: dark underground//violent sky by bereft_of_frogs, MCU, I can’t tell you more than that because it would spoil it. I love horror fic and I have missed it since leaving Supernatural fandom. This one scratched that itch and I’m still thinking about it. Maybe it’s time for a reread.
As usual, I’m sure I’ve missed/forgotten some faves. I always do.
I...lord, I feel like most of the people I’d usually tag have already been tagged for this? If you’re a mutual of mine and you haven’t been, go for it! I’m always excited to see more recs.

I was tagged in this writer ask meme by @kylermalloy. Thank you love!! :)
Which fandoms do you write for?
Currently I write for Jonerys/ GoT, but I used to write for Stydia/ Teen Wolf, and I wrote one singular fic for Star Wars once that is STILL one of my most highly kudosed fics 😂
Which characters do you write?
Now that I think about it I believe I only write from the POVs of characters in the ship? I think for Teen Wolf I might have written one or two fics from Scott;s POV, but other than that I stick to the halves of my otps. I’ve only ever written Jon and Dany for Thrones.
Is there any character you currently don’t write for but want to, if any?
Uh, not really, I don’t think! I find it intimidating enough to write from Jon and Dany’s POVs, tbh. Adding in more characters’ POVs to the mix would likely just stress me out 😂
Who is your favorite character to write?
Oh god, I don’t know if I can pick. Weirdly Jon is easier to write but I enjoy writing Dany more? We’ll see if that still stands after my next au, because I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be all from Jon’s POV.
Are you working on a fic right now?
Lol do you want me to list all my wips? It’s embarrassingly long I will tell you now
Big scale projects are finishing up Where the Wild Things Are and getting started on Baby I’ll Come Back to you. Other than that, I have half the sequel to the Cinderella au written, the outline for my Musketeers au which I’ll get back to eventually, part of a Jane Austen/ Regency au outlined, and about 234789203 fluffy one shot sequels to WTWTA planned. I am also considering finishing up the Stydia ice dancing au as my Teen Wolf fandom swan song since it’s been sitting in my drafts for two years now.
How long are your fics usually?
Obscenely long. Horribly long. If I manage to keep a fic under 10k nowadays it’s a goddamn miracle. My chapters average 20k. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME.
What do you write most of? Fluff, smut, angst, dark?
Fluff all the way, our babies suffered ENOUGH in canon. However my next multichapter is a little darker and much angstier so I am excited to try my hand at that even though it’s out of my comfort zone!
Do you have a playlist or specific music you listen to when you write?
I have different playlists based on what I’m writing and what mood I’m in. Seriously, there are like 30 different writing playlists on my phone. Sometimes I can do lyrics while I write and sometimes I really can’t, so most of the time when words distract me I listen to movie scores.
Are there things you like to do while writing?
I like to sit in my bed. I have the attention span of a goldfish so if I try to do anything else while writing I get nothing done.
What writing program do you use?
Google docs! Mostly on my laptop but sometimes on my phone.
How long have you been writing for?
Since December of 2015, but I didn’t post anything until nearly a year later in November 2016. Back then I used to completely write out my multichapters before I started posting them so that I wouldn’t have to make my readers wait months between updates. L O L.
I tag @esteriivy @anneshirlei @justwandering-neverlost @lilacs-with-lavender @adecila @muttpeeta and anyone else who would like to do this!

Fanfic Organisation Tips
I write a lot. Over the last few years I’ve developed a system with some simple rules that keep me writing prolifically almost every day and meant I never lost anything. This helped me write over 2000 pages and finish over 40 stories in the last 12 months. I felt like sharing it. Maybe there’s something you guys can use?
SET UP I have a scheduled hour of writing time every night. Its my comfy time. I’ve showered, I’ve had dinner, I’m ready to sit in front of a screen after work. And come hell or high water I try to put at least 1 word down on paper during that time. Something new, something in progress, there’s no shame either way. The important part is the routine. I find I personally work best without food but with headphones set high enough to drown out the TV my partner’s watching but not so loud I can’t hear myself think. Routines can help you write more. But you might want to consider what routine works best for you personally: -What time do you write best? (7am or 8pm?) -Where can you focus best? (Your bed? Lounge room?) -What helps you write? (Music? Water nearby? Temperature just right?) -How long can you write for? (Do you lose focus after an hour? Do you have work at 7.30am?)
Once I made these decisions I focused hard on carrying out my routine every day and making sure everything was ready for it. I felt calm cause I knew, even if I was having a rough day, at 8pm I would have some writing time. I had already scheduled it in.
ORGANISATION I find blank word documents intimidating. Starting on an empty page makes me choke up. So until I’m finished something it stays in a ‘garden’ document with everything else I’m currently working on. This is how I organise it: -All my stories for different fandoms are in different Word documents. All Fullmetal Alchemist stories are in “WIPS.doc” all Final Fantasy XV stories are in “Ficlets.doc”. That sort of thing. - I start a story and write as much as I can. If I get stuck I don’t ever delete it. I leave what I’ve got and start my next idea underneath it. - I can come back to any story at any time. -Once a word document reaches roughly 500 pages I start a new one. This means no single Word document gets too big to search or scroll or manage. -If I’ve started a new word document in the same fandom the Word document is titled the same but with a number (eg. all Fullmetal Alchemist stories are in WIPS.doc, WIPs 1.doc, and WIPS 2.doc) - To make finding stories easier when I’m scrolling I use this code: (~) = scene break within story ( … ) = breaks between different story ideas ( WORKING TITLE ) = every story gets a working title. I might change this later but they all get a short, simple, tag I can search in ctrl + f later. Working titles are better if they’re descriptive (eg. FAKE DATING AU, AMENSIA, BED SHARING). I do these in Capslock because that makes them easier to see when I’m scrolling.
IF YOU’RE REALLY EXTRA I’ve also started using a spreadsheet the last 6 months. It’s fairly simple but it means I can have multiple WIPS going on and see the bigger picture. It helps me quickly find that one idea I started writing a month ago I just got a wave of inspiration for and it helps me browse what idea to pick up when I’m not sure what I feel like writing. These are the columns I use in my spreadsheet:
-Fandom -Name of the Word document the story is sitting in (“Ficlets 1.doc” etc) -Working title of the idea (Ctrl + f so I can get to it quickly) -Brief summary of the general idea (to help me choose/refresh my memory) -Rating (how much I was enjoying writing it) -Word count (is this a big boy? Is it almost done? Is it just started?) -Have I posted this already? Y/N or 1/6 (chapters posted) +You could add a ‘pairing’ column if that’s more relevant to you   Make sure you have filters on in Excel. To do this select all your columns, go to ‘sort and filter’ and select ‘filter’. This will allow you to sort things in alphabetical order, easily manage what you’ve got, and filter specific searches for yourself (eg. all ideas for X fandom, all high rated ideas, biggest word count ideas, stuff you’ve already posted…)
TO SAVE A FRIEND The biggest rules I implemented were for myself. I made two decisions simultaneously: 1 I will not start posting anything that I have not finished writing. No exceptions. 2 I will be okay with oneshots, vignettes and multichapter fics. They all have an audience and if a story tells me it’s done. It’s done.
This means I post maybe 2 fics out of every 10 ideas. But it means I never abandon a story halfway through. Maybe I’ll start an idea, write 28k words and leave it for six months before writing another 10k words and finishing it but no one ever sees that gap. I found this helped motivate me to finish things (because I’m a whore for reviews) and oneshots and vignettes opened up my horizons. Not everything has to be 12 chapters.
I found with these rules my readers also became keener to follow what I was posting because my updates were regular. They could anticipate and look forward to my new chapters and they trusted me to always give them a complete story. They knew if I started something, they would get to read all of it.

Tumblr Writers Q&A
Thank you @keeper0fthestars for the tag!! I may be a little late, but I thought I’d answer during some free time today! I know I’ve gotten a few new followers so thank you guys, I promise I’m not always dead :)
1) How many complete fics/one shots do you have that you have not published (yet)? technically 3? one is a multi-parter that i wanted to have more for before i posted, the others are for someone i no longer write for
2) How many WIPS do you have right now? ....at least...um 17+5...22? that is uh, the number i could find. FUCK. okay no closer to 28. several are multichapter that have been started and not finished. i dont want to talk about it.
3) Do you take writing requests or write original ideas, or both? I have done both! original ideas i tend to be drawn to more because im automatically inspired by it, but i do have fun with requests (which are closed rn)
4) If you do take requests, how many do you currently have? currently have 14 requests and i said i would do that but lordie they have been sitting here so long i am sorry. (only some of these are included in the wip question above)
5) How many fandoms do you write for? rn just mandalorian and rdr2 are the main ones (there is another fandom i may start writing for...)
6) Are there any fandoms you wrote for in the past that you no longer write for? star wars and marvel, though technically i still write for star wars just now specifically for mando
7) Do you write for ships, reader inserts or other? Reader inserts!
8) Niche fandoms/characters you write for? i feel like my blorbos are all pretty popular
9) Do you read fics as well as write them? hell yeah. i always try to comment but i’ve been in a bit of low mode at, im trying to get back up <3
10) What is your favorite genre to write for? angst to fluff i think? i tend to do that a lot
11) What is your favorite trope (to read/write)? i freaking love enemies to lovers. reading it for sure, writing i have stuff planned. but its gotta be done right: slow burn or no burn, i say
12) What do you do to get motivated to write? good question, good question. i just gotta sit and stare and think and listen to music and force myself to just put the words on the doc dammit. or ye good olde reliable-->get meg to yell at me
13) Is there a trope/genre you like to read, but not write? i was gonna say heavy angst but some might say i write that?
14) Any characters/fandoms you want to write for that are never requested? maybe?
15) How long have you been writing fanfiction? i think i started...2017?
16) Did you read fan fiction before you started writing? oh for sure
17) Do you only post on Tumblr, or any other sites as well? i cross-post to ao3!
18) What do you personally consider the word counts of “Drabble”, “One shots” and “fics”? drabble less than 1k, oneshot between 1k and 15k (as long as the story told in one go, i’d say it counts), and i always thought ‘fics’ were all-encompassing of one shots and multichapter so...no limit
19) Which do you prefer to write more? HC, drabbles, oneshots/fics, multi chapter stories, other? i think i’d have to say oneshots/fics just bec thats all i’ve really been successful with. multichapter would be the dream but dear lord i don’t have the brain power. i still tryin tho
20) Are there any stories you have discontinued? If so, why? I have some wips i planned that will go abandoned but nothing i have published is discontinued. might take me 10 years, but i want to finish them
21) What is one of your main “pet-peeves” as a writer on Tumblr? i think the main one is that for some reason ‘older fics’ eventually just get,,, lost or ignored. you can still interact with old fics.
22) Do you write at a particular time of day? lolololol. um. who knows. i have done a good bit past 1 AM tho
23) Do you listen to music, ambiance/noise, etc to write or do you need silence? depends on the fic? but i do like to do a song on repeat to keep the vibes for the scene
24) Do you outline your fics at all before writing? if its a multichapter, i attempt an outline. otherwise, whatever happens happens my friend
25) Do you post your writing as soon as you finish it, or do you schedule it to come out at a specific time/day? I have done both, depends on the hour its finished. if i finished at 4 am, i will not post at 4 am.
i shan’t tag anyone this time, but if you want to answer this or start a convo about writing pls do!! i am always interested

MCU fic recs - completed stories
Here i’ll be listing my favorite mcu fics that are finished. in another list at another time i’ll be doing those that are wip and/or abandond. some of these fics might not exactly be “mcu” but they will be understandable and readable with only mcu knowledge.
(most include romance and tony as the main character)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17248145
Not Exactly What I Wanted by Tahlruil
summary:
Tony has always been happy to piss off Alphas who try to control him - especially Howard Stark. Unfortunately he managed to push his father just a little too far... and the man arranged to have him auctioned off to the highest bidder. Now he's married to a guy he hardly knows, one that is too damn patient and too damn nice. There's no way that isn't an act, and Tony is resolved to be a little shit until he finds out the limits of his husband's fake personality.
Though he's been back from the war for a while, Bucky has been left scarred by the experience. The most prominent one is the personality that came into being because of Hydra's torture and brainwashing attempts when he was captured. They were rescued before they became the Winter Soldier, but Winter is still very much sharing space in his head. Winter has never responded to anyone positively... until they met Tony at an auction Bucky had been dragged to by a former commanding officer. They are both captivated by the Omega and buy him despite their better judgement.
extra: this is a/b/o but soft, zero dub-con of any kind. The pairing is bucky/tony and the universe it takes place in is an AU. in case it wasn’t obvious this fic is romance centric (m/m). you can read this on ao3.bucky and the winter soldier are seperate personalities. doesn’t include explicit sex.

Out of the Ashes by VoicesOffCamera
summary:
"'We really can't draw any conclusions until we know all the facts.' / 'Like who the hell that Robin Hood wannabe was who outshot my agents using only a couple sticks and a string from the Dark Ages'" When a botched mission sends Phil Coulson after a mysterious archer, he gets much more than he bargained for. [Hawkeye Origin; No Slash]
extra: gen fic, hawkeye/clint centric. i haven’t read this in so many years but i remember it being good. includes zero sex. it’s multichaptered.

Forms of Love by bear_bell
summary:
Months after the Avengers' dispute in Germany, the team returns to the US and moves back into the tower. As always, everyone pretends that nothing happened. Tony is just fine with this. He's used to pretending, and he'll be damned if he lets any of them see him flinch.
Tony's the bad guy, after all. He's used to it. He's fine with it. He's good at it.
Only now, there's something far worse loitering around the tower - The Winter Soldier. No one notices the guy at first, but when they do, Tony figures that he should have the soldier's back.
Birds of a feather should flock together, and the bad guys should start a book club.

From this prompt on the avengerkink meme:
"I'm probably the only person who hasn't seen AoU yet, but I DO know that Clint has a family, and apparently is a pretty great Dad. Mixing that with comics canon that he had an abusive background? It's awesome that he managed to break the cycle like that and just be a great parent.
As for Tony, I think he's a lot more scared about having kids/turning into his father. There's a moment in Iron Man 3 with Harley, when the kid breaks off the suit's finger and he says sorry, and Tony just says "Are you?" in this hard tone before completely changing tracks and telling Harley not to worry about it. I get the feeling that he was beginning to mimic his father there, but the moment he recognized his behavior, he changed it. That's something I really respect.
So I'd like a moment between these two, dealing with Tony's worry about acting like his father, and Clint saying it doesn't have to be that way."
Basically, that.

fanfic asks: all.
lol Thanks! This took me forever.
1. Do you have a word-count goal for 2018? - Not really, but another 100k would be nice to achieve.
2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc?- Hopefully Royai Week again and Royai Halloween week since I just was feeling crappy and was too busy to do it last year.
3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom in 2018? Which one? - Not really. I have been meaning to delve into WoW fanfiction for a few years now, so maybe that, but it’ll probably just be FMA and my own stuff again because I’m a loser. lol
4. Do you think you’ll stop writing for a fandom in 2018? Which one? - Who knows. It seems like my fics aren’t entertaining anymore or whatever, but I lost quite a few readers in 2017 so that may end up being a deciding factor in whether I continue FMA fanfiction or not. As of now, I don’t think I’ll stop writing for the series though.
5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet? - I would really really like to finish Through Eyes of Flame, but it still has a long way to go and, again, because of lack of readers, my motivation to write it is very very low. I’ve had the next chapter halfway completed since September and every time I look at it to try to write for it, I just give up and work on something else. I’ve been working on that fic for almost two years and I just want to finish it already. I think I posted a snippet before, but here’s a bit of the chapter that’s been halfway done for months now:
Red light crackled around Gluttony’s wounds, each bullet hole closing within seconds. No matter how many vital points Riza hit with deadly accuracy, it all proved futile. The hulking homunculus held her off the ground by her throat as she continued to struggle and fire bullet after bullet into its skull. She grit her teeth as Gluttony’s hold on her neck tightened and the click click click of her gun’s trigger indicated she was out of ammo. She dropped her hand to her side and the gun fell to the ground with a clatter.
This was it. This was how she was going to die. She would no longer be able to protect Roy. But at least he would live. He would not be incriminated for what they were doing here. He would go on, working toward their goal without her, and that was enough for her.
6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list? - I would love to start writing the Royai mermaid AU I’ve been thinking about a lot. Also perhaps my “Riza was an alchemist the whole time” au. I’ve had so many ideas for those that were stewing around all year, but I didn’t start them because I wanted to finish TEoF first.
7. Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers? - Definitely try to comment more. I comment every chance I get, but sometimes I still can’t figure out what to say or have a weird anxiety build up that makes me not want to comment, so I want to work on that and make sure every fic I read gets at least an “I liked this” or something. Also if I wasn’t so anxious I’d strike up conversations more often on here with other writers, but I feel like I just annoy people so I avoid talking to anyone unless they talk to me first. It’s stupid, I know, but I just feel like they’d message me if they wanted to talk to me, you know? I need to work on that.
8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is 2018 the year? - Ummmmm… I don’t think so? Well, scratch that, I have a lot of horror/tragedy/angsty ideas, but I can get very dark and I have found that I hold back quite a bit with fanfiction in that department. Like… I feel like people would avoid me and not read my stuff if it got that dark so I tend to just write fluff and minor angsty one shots. I even held back on my fic Hollow because I felt like it was getting too dark so I cut a lot of stuff out, rushed it, and lightened it up a bit. I realize people like angst and such, but I worry about scaring off readers. It’s weird. SO, with that said, I would like to write some kind of fic that’s super dark, but I don’t know if anyone would read it. That’s what my original novel is for. lol
9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? - I would love to get the next chapter for Through Eyes of Flame finished and posted by my birthday (Jan. 31). Other than that, I have no plans, but that might change if people send me prompts or something. An anon keeps sending me the prompt “May wasn’t there on the Promised Day and Roy has to burn Riza’s wounds closed.” I like the idea, but I’m not confident enough to write it. I know nothing about the nitty gritty medical details that would go into that so I feel like my attempt would be bad and unrealistic and honestly the only outcome I could see would be Riza dying anyway because burning an artery and just that whole area is bad news and wouldn’t end well, especially because Roy would probably be nervous and have shaky hands and mess up.
10. Will you keep a record of all the fics you write and/or post this year? - Probably not beyond posting them to FFNet and AO3. I never really thought about keeping a record of the stuff I write.
11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes in 2018? - I think I answered this above, but more Angst and stuff in that vein.
12. Will you change anything about the way you edit or rewrite in 2018? - I want to get better at description and make my prose sound nicer. Right now, my writing is very straight forward and not flowery at all. I don’t necessarily like flowery writing as sometimes I have no idea what the author is trying to say if it gets too flowery and purple, but I feel like my writing is very lackluster and missing something. So I’d like to get better at showing and not telling more often.
13. Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic?- I’d love to get back into drawing far more often. I used to draw all the time in high school. I gave it up for so long after I graduated and I miss it. I only drew a few times last year, but I’d like to pick it up far more often. Like, maybe even do a monthly request type thing where I take requests once a month and draw for people instead of going for, like, five months and then being like “I feel like drawing, send in requests.” I’d just like to do it more often.
14. Have you ever lost large chunks of your work in the past, due to not backing up your work? Will you change your methods in 2018? - Oh yeah. I’ve lost so much stuff because my hard drives have crashed several times in the past, like, ten years. All my old original writing was lost to the void in high school when my Mac’s hard drive crashed for the first time. I did manage to print some of it off though, which I found recently, but it was only a fraction of what I had written in my high school years. It honestly wasn’t great anyway, but it’s still upsetting to lose stuff I worked on for years. It’s why I use Google Docs mostly now and I do have a thumb drive that I download stuff onto occasionally now.
15. Do you foresee any personal or professional obstacles in 2018, that would keep you from creating fanworks?- I really really want to finish my original novel, so fanfics might take a backseat to that if I feel like I’m not keeping up with it well enough. My dream is to be a published author, even if that means publishing myself. Also my dog isn’t doing so well recently and if his ailments progress as rapidly as they seem to be right now… Well I hope it doesn’t come to anything serious, but losing him might take a huge toll on me and I know I’ll probably fall into a serious depression for a long time. Which is why I want to finish my original novel as soon as possible, because I know if I lose him I’ll never finish my book, at least not for a few years.
16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted? - Nope, I always post stuff, even if it’s a WIP multichapter. I tend to be proud of stuff and want to get it out to share it asap. It’s why lack of hits/comments/shares upsets me a lot of the time. I wouldn’t share my work if I wasn’t proud of it, but lack of hits and response makes me feel like everything I do is shit.
17. Do you typically answer all comments/reviews individually? Do you plan to change the way you interact with your readers this year? - Yes, especially on AO3. It’s a little harder on FFNet since you have to PM the person and I didn’t even realize you could respond like that until recently. I definitely plan to thank and respond to people individually more often so they know just how much I appreciate their comments.
18. Do you typically post multi-chapters as you write, or finish it all and then start posting? Would you like to change your posting method?- Honestly, I really should write the whole damn thing and then post it, but I post each chapter as I go. My problem is that I have a difficult time staying motivated to write something without feedback from people. It’s why writing my original stuff can be so hard at times. I really would like to finish a thing before I begin posting though because that way if I lose motivation, I don’t disappoint people by either not updating for a long time or never updating again.
19. Would you consider non-fandom writing events, like NaNoWriMo or writing contests?- I did Camp Nano where I managed to write 25k words for my original novel. It’s what really helped me get going with that. I wanted to do the actual NaNo event, but was depressed and busy during that time. I would like to do both this year though and maybe finish my book then (though I’d like to be done with my book sooner than that.)
20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year? - Yep, as I said before, I want to finish my book this year. Even if no one reads it, it’s been my dream since middle school to finish and publish it and this is the time I’m going to actually do it. No more sitting on it wishing it would just magically be written for me. Even if people don’t like it, I’m going to finish it because I like it.

probably no one is going to send in any numbers, so i’m just gonna answer this whole thing right now
((most of my followers follow me for memes and shitposts, not my writing, lmao... anyway....))
Fanfic asks for the new year
I’ve seen a lot of ask memes focused on the past year, but none for what people are planning or hoping for in their writing in the new year. So here are a few questions that I thought of… feel free to add more!
1. Do you have a word-count goal for 2018? Nope
2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc? Depends on what’s being hosted, but probably at least 1, yeah. (oh hell, I just realized this was also about challenges, not just exchanges. Yes, I will be doing challenges... or signing up for them and failing to write things for 50-80% of them, as usual.)
3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom in 2018? Which one? Maybe, I don’t really know. I might pick up a new fandom or write for one I’ve liked for a long time but never written anything for. It’s hard to tell where my inspiration will take me.
4. Do you think you’ll stop writing for a fandom in 2018? Which one? As much as I would love to walk away from the Harry Potter fandom entirely... no, probably not.
5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet? tbh, I have no PLANS to actually finish anything, but it would be nice to actually get any of my multichaps (besides drabble collections) updated again.
6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list? “In the Wings” a RWBY fake-dating AU with two fake couples trying to play wingman for each other.
7. Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers? I am trying to leave more comments since I usually read without reviewing unless it’s for a review tag.
8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is 2018 the year? There are a ton of them, and no probably not.
9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? I would really love to get the second chapter of “Mother of Little Bears” written but I’ve hit a mental block regarding that fic, so honestly just getting SOMETHING posted is my only goal at the moment. (My writing process is as much of a mess as everything else in my life....)
10. Will you keep a record of all the fics you write and/or post this year? Well.... the date they’re posted will be visible on FFN and AO3, but other than that... no. I don’t keep track.
I’m quickly realizing why most ask memes have 50 or 100 questions. Ten questions don’t go too far once multiple people start sending asks. I can’t think of 90 more questions, but here’s a few more:
11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes in 2018? I’ve decided to branch out into fake-dating AU territory. XD
12. Will you change anything about the way you edit or rewrite in 2018? Nope
13. Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic? I customize dolls as fandom characters. My current project is Boa Hancock from One Piece. (I still haven’t found the right wig for her yet. *sigh*)
14. Have you ever lost large chunks of your work in the past, due to not backing up your work? Will you change your methods in 2018? I have. T_T Sadly, no, I am gremlin that types directly into the on-site editor instead of using a word-processing program then copypasting or uploading it, and at this point nothing will change my terrible ways.
15. Do you foresee any personal or professional obstacles in 2018, that would keep you from creating fanworks? ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!! WHO KNOWS, MAN, WHO KNOWS
16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted? Nope. Anything I’ve actually written has been posted. I don’t write an entire multichapter before posting any of it, if I have 1 chapter finished, it goes up.
17. Do you typically answer all comments/reviews individually? Do you plan to change the way you interact with your readers this year? Not always, especially not on FFN where review replies go straight to PM and there is no way to answer unsigned reviews. I don’t plan to change anything.
18. Do you typically post multi-chapters as you write, or finish it all and then start posting? Would you like to change your posting method? I answered this as part of a previous question. I post each chapter as it’s written. (Except if I’m re-posting my old works from FFN to AO3... I have a few years worth of stuff I didn’t crosspost yet.) No, I don’t want to change.
19. Would you consider non-fandom writing events, like NaNoWriMo or writing contests? Consider, yes. Actually participate in, probably not.
20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year? Nope. (Doesn’t mean I won’t, just that I have no plans to.)

Fic Meme 2016
The obligatory end-of-year fic meme (spend, like, an hour hunting down the one I did for 2015, only to find it in my drafts folder, ugh.)
Twilight
The Brief History of Us
A Million Blinking Promises
The Ones We Left Behind
Memento Mori
Total number of completed stories: 3 posted, 1 ready to go, which is shocking.
Total word count: Completed, posted fic: 34,000, plus another 40k of unposted works current works, and numerous scribbles and bits.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? Less, I was hoping on getting Hybrid ready to post, Memento Mori isnt posted because it enjoys being difficult, Aristeia’s next five chapters should absolutely have been posted. I am not a human, just a sentient pile of Writing To Dos posing as a human.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I haven’t been particularly experimental this year, tbh. Sticking to the tried and true. I have dabbled with some Hawkeye Squared though, does that count?
What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? The Brief History of Us.  That came together really well, and I got some shocker reviews for it. I think the word limit did stifle it a little, and I’m still iffy with the beta process it went through, but I like it. I still plan to one day write the entire opus.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?Having the confidence to pitch a novel for my honours project, based on Ricochet. LOL, what the hell was I thinking?
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Well, my honours project Bravura has to be written, edited, printed and bound by June LOL. I want Aristeia to continue, desperately, and I desperately want to get one of my Jan fics going, and hopefully get Hybrid off the ground.
My best story of this year:
My most popular story:  A Million Blinking Promises. The fact that it was the longest multichapter allowed it to be more visible than the others, though.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:  The Brief History of Us. Easily.
Most fun story to write:  They were all about the same, tbh. I always enjoy writing.
Most Sexy Story:  None of them are particularly sexual, tbh.
Story with the single sexiest moment:  From The Brief History of Us
As perfect as the way she looks as he slides her gown from her shoulders—as he falls to his knees to press kisses to her, her fingers tangling in his hair. She is everything—a princess, a goddess, the axis upon which his world sits—as he sighs against the skin of her stomach, pausing only to look up at her, her eyes darkened in desire, her love wrapping around him with a new kind of certainty.
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:  None this year, shockingly enough. From the writer that brought you Aristeia and that strange ‘possessed Saturn and Uranus disembowel Neptune’ WIP, everything has been above board so far.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Hardest story to write:  The Brief History of Us, definitely. Between the word count, and trying to piece together this kind of idea I hadn’t quite pinned down, it was a struggle.
Most disappointing:  There are some glaring issues with The Ones We Left Behind that I have to fix.
Easiest story to write:  Memento Mori, definitely. Which is why I’m so ticked off the editing process has been so abysmal.
Biggest surprise:  The Brief History of Us, because this is the sort of story I write a lot of, but never ever post.
Most unintentionally telling story:  I’m going to say The Brief History of Us, even though ten years on I still have no idea what this question means.
Story I’d like to revise:  The Ones We Left Behind; I’d like to expand The Brief History of Us too.
Story I didn’t write but will at some point, I swear:  For MCU, Miniature Disasters (Darcy) is due to be finished and posted, so help me god. I want to get Rebel Yell (Kate Bishop), Down but Never Out (my crazy Darcy Dark Angel/MCU xover), and perhaps Golden Girl (post CW Jan/Wanda fic) going in more than a few nebulous scenes. Elastic Hearts (Jan/Steve) needs to be finished, too.
For Sailor Moon, This is the Way a Heart Breaks and Elephant deserve to be finished up. I’m pretty sure I lost all of my Sailor Moon files when my last laptop died, so I’m still kind of mourning everything that was amongst that, tbh.
For Twilight, I want All These Broken Things fucking done and posted. A Thousand Years of Solitude, too, deserves to be finished up. I really want to get The Dark and the Unknown drafted, as well as the untitled Jessamine/Alice AU, the AUAH ‘tattoo’ fic finished, and get one of the large chapter fics ready to go - maybe Hybrid, but Runaway and Magnolia have equal potential there. I’m currently using The Long Way Around as the basis for some 31_days shorts, so I might leave that one for the moment.
And, obviously, I need to get Bravura done for uni so I can graduate. Honestly, after I finished Bravura and submit it, I plan to spend the second-half of 2017 trying to find a publisher for it, and just writing fic as a reward for finishing my degree.
