Elumaxstin headcanon - how it started

imagine that elumax is already together, and byler is not-so-secretly crushing at each other and spends a lot of time together, just two of them, and that leaves Dustin alone.

But Lucas and El can be very emotional and quickly pick up on Dustin being blue and out of it recently, and they talk about it with Max and they all decide that they would hang out with Dustin, bc they love him too (not romantically, yet)

And so they told him that and omg imagine his happy, beaming face!!! He just hugs three of them at once with a big crushing hug, and he laughs with that his specific laugh and Lucas laughs too, El smiles and Max is grimacing but inside she’s happy too!

And u know. they start hanging out, outside, in their houses, just lying together, laughing, playing, hugging, etc etc Slowly, they are exploring this new situation, adding Dustin in their group, and honestly, they didn’t even think about loving him romantically or adding him to their poly relationship, it just happened.

They naturally started standing close to him too, touching him with their fingers, hands, shoulders, just feeling him close, or where cuddling he would just simply, naturally go to their cuddling pile.

And they realize that only when they met up with Mike and Will, and Will asks “Are you dating Dustin too, now?” And they just looks at each other, at Dustin, and Lucas shrugs, El smiles and Max answers “It seems so”

one day, the party were all up to something expect Dustin and Max. the both of them realize they don't hang out at all without the rest of the party. but Max doesn't want to go home either.

Max won't admit it, but she loves how ridiculous Dustin can get. and how protective he is. When they hang out, the world feels a lot less complicated yunno?

aww. i love this. max and dustin have a very underrated friendship. currently thinking about max fondly rolling her eyes as dustin talks about nerd things, and dustin holding up a hand for a high-five after max roasts someone or calls mike out.

i don’t think dustin and max have any common interests, so they’re more the type of friends that talk about whatever’s going on at the moment. i’d love them gossiping about their other friends or complaining about a teacher they both hate. now i’m thinking about them being protective of their friends together.

also, they’re the two most likely to call the others out on their shit, so i like the thought of them being on their own side in an argument with the party (but it’s not a huge argument. it’s just about something small).
