Movies watched in 2023
Dream (2023, South Korea)
Director & Writer: Lee Byeong Heon
Mini-review:
I'm gonna be very honest: I hate football/soccer and, initially, I only wanted to watch this because I adore IU. So, color me surprised, cause I enjoyed it a lot. I should have seen it coming tbh, cause I've always liked this type of inspirational-underdog storylines. Anyway, the characters were engaging, the script was really funny and witty, and the whole cast was great. IU does steal the show, proving that she has a natural knack for fast-paced comedy and one-liners (I swear I'm not being biased here). But all the other actors do an amazing job too! My only real complain is that the movie felt a tad too long, and the final act dragged a bit. But, besides that, I had a lot of fun watching it and I would definitely recommend it!

MOVIE REVIEW | Dream (2023)
In this film about broken dreams and second chances, a professional football player finds himself in a difficult position due to a mix of bad decisions and bad luck. He also has no real support system in his mother (who is on the run for scamming people) and his agency wants him to quit the sport to become a celebrity.
Is in this moment of his life that to rehabilitate his image he is forced to become the coach of a football team conformed by homeless men that will compete on a charity tournament.
Reluctantly, he learns the reasons why these men found themselves living in the streets. Addiction, bad decisions, abandonment, grief, among other motives. What they all have in common is that through this tournament they are looking to become a better version of themselves.
To record every moment of their journey, a documentary director (deep in student debt and stress) needs to find the right angle to have this film be a success for her and them.
It’s through teamwork and sharing their problems, that this team of odd men out find -perhaps for the first time in their lives- a real support system and even a family.
Dream is a solid comedy with really touching moments that brought some tears to my eyes. The film tries to shed some light on current social issues in South Korea through the housing problem these men are going through.
Park Seo Joon gives a good performance going from disheartened to finding a new dream and people to fight for. His chemistry with IU is hilarious to watch as they play entirely platonic teammates throwing jabs at each other, even long after they start to get along.
IU’s character as the documentary director who is forced to believe in herself into success is both fun and oh, so real.
The heart of the film, however, is Heo Joon Seok, whose character never lost hope and fought from beginning to end so the team could achieve their dream. The rest of the actors bring some emotions though the respective stories that makes the comedy more grounded.
Overall, I enjoyed this film.

A soccer player that falls out of grace becomes the coach of a group of homeless men training for the Homeless World Cup that will be held in England. Is the over used plot of the underdog, we know what to expect and it doesn’t disappoint.
I liked the film even when it touches in a very superficial way how people see the homeless. Each men has a story of love and struggle and I like to see that the tournament helped them finds out and kept them together as a support system.

Love Attack (2023)
Tumblr media
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Plot:
Tired of always being ranked second in class behind Kyung J00, Seok Jin decides to try to distract her from studying by launching a "love attack" on his academic rival.
Cast & Crew:
Kim Do Hoon as Cha Seok Jin
Chae Won Bin as Kang Kyung Joo
Supporting cast - Heo Jin, Park Sung Joon, Nam Joong Gyu, Baek Hyo Won, Han Ye Ji
Director - Lee Hyun Kyung
Screen Writer - Choi Yi Kyung
Music:
The chosen music fit the drama special well.
Awards: Best Actress in Drama Special/TV Cinema (Chae Won Bin) - KBS Drama Awards 2023
Overall:
It’s been way too long since my last drama special, long time no see!
Tumblr media
So many people told me about how cute this one was so I’ve been saving it for a rainy day. I’ve been sick for the last couple of weeks and the weather is miserable so I decided it was time. My sources were correct, this drama special is certified adorable and had me smiling, laughing and almost crying along the way.
Tumblr media
The story centres on Seok Jin who appears to have it all - looks, money, brains, however, he is perpetually stuck in second place thanks to his rival number one student Kyung Joo who despite working a million part time jobs still takes the number one spot. Things are going to change, however, as Kyung Joo is taking off to study abroad… or is she? How can Seok Jin possibly change his fate as a second place student? Hint: it’s the title of the drama… A LOVE ATTACK!
Tumblr media
This drama special has a lot of things I like in a drama; fake dating, cute youthful hijinx, cast chemistry, a cute halmeoni, gorgeous countryside trips with autumn foliage, shots of delicious food, and a nice backing track. All this combined into an almost perfect watch experience for me.
Tumblr media
I think that the writer did a decent job plotting out the story over the just short time frame, honouring the lead character’s journeys. Although it was so cute I could have taken a little more than what we got. Based on this I am now keen to watch the writer’s other special Dog Days of Summer.
Tumblr media
Throughout the drama I was often reminded of Park Hyung Shik and Park Shin Hye’s characters in Doctor Slump as if these kids could be an alternate universe version of them. I loved those characters and their journey too.
Tumblr media
The cast were all familiar faces and they did a good job of making their roles believable from the sad drunk friend to the sweet little halmeoni who doesn’t want her granddaughter missing out on life experiences.
Tumblr media
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama special and if you are in need of something short and sweet it’s well worth a watch.
Rating: 9.5/10

"Competing for rankings at the end of the season is important."
The Changwon LG Twins went on an overseas training camp on Wednesday. Immediately before the training camp, Konkuk University was invited to Changwon for practice games on Wednesday and Tuesday. With various combinations, LG plans to beef up its efforts through four practice games in Japan and Taiwan, with players who will participate in the regular league as the focal point.
Heo Il-young, who met after a practice game with Konkuk University on the 20th, explained the training performance so far, saying, "We still have a month left, so we have to adjust more, but it's not bad."
LG has emerged as a new team to the extent that most of its main players have changed. In September, the team focused on collaborating with Korean and foreign players (Ashem Maray and Daryl Monroe).
Heo Il-young said, "Monroe knew each other well because we both played together at Orion. We hit each other well just by hitting the eye. I don't have to hit the ball alone, so I talk to the rest of the players a lot, and Monroe asks me to tell other players how I play. The players are getting used to it little by little," adding, "Marei has so good control under the basket that he just needs to throw balls that pass from outside, and we have a lot of space to take moves. I am very satisfied with the strength of the two foreign players." LG can expect good results only when existing young players such as Yang Joon-seok, Yoo Ki-sang, and Jeong In-deok and senior players such as Heo Il-young, Choi Jin-soo, Jang Min-guk, Jeon Sung-hyun, and Doo Kyung-min, who have joined the team, are in harmony.
When asked about her teamwork with young players, Heo said, "Good. Players also actively ask me questions. They tell me to talk without any seniors or juniors on the court, and to talk naturally like this. When am I going to use honorifics, I have to communicate quickly at that time, so I tell them not to bother about it on the court, just to call me 'brother' (laughs)," and added, "I take it well, ask a lot of questions, and ask for help if there's anything I can't do. I'm glad that you're nice and you worked so hard."
Cho Sang-hyun, LG's coach, led the team to second place in the regular league in both of the past seasons based on defense. However, he is satisfied just to follow through and make him try hard to shoot. Cho Sang-hyun is satisfied with Heo Il-young's defense.
Heo Il-young, who has to adapt to the defense that coach Cho Sang-hyun wants, also did not worry, saying, "I think it's definitely better than the first time."
Jeon, who is recovering from knee injury, plans to make a comeback at the KBL Cup. He needs a little more time to recover his normal condition. Moreover, as many new players have joined the team, it takes more time before their teamwork is fully matched. For this reason, LG is expected to show better performance at the end of this season than at the beginning of this season.
Heo Il-young said, "It does have such a point. If I don't lose in the early part of the season, I won 10 consecutive games and went to the playoffs. It doesn't matter if I lose in the beginning. I did too much for 10 consecutive losses, and I think it's better to play after the fourth round by only going as high," he said. "If you don't perform well at the end of the season, the blow will be bigger, so it's important to have a ranking fight then. Looking at it now, Jeon Sung-hyun has improved a lot, and Doo Kyung-min is okay. Not all players can play 40 minutes. Since I'm trying to rotate the rotation properly, if I know who my role and what the coach wants, it won't be bad if I think about the team first, not my greed."
When asked about the upcoming training camp for four games in Japan and Taiwan, Heo said, "I heard that Japanese teams also traveled a long time. It takes about an hour and a half to travel from Okinawa to Taiwan. I heard that I chose Taiwan because of the short travel time," and added, "I've been to both the U.S. and Europe, but it's really hard to travel long distances. It's not that Japan and Taiwan have a bad opponent. I don't worry too much."
"The most important thing is defense. There are many different kinds of defense, so I asked him to talk about defense and rotation that fit the situation. I also emphasize that because we have to talk a lot from inside rather than outside (court). The coach also emphasizes the rebound after the defense that the coach wants, so we have to focus on that," he said. "The two foreign players have their strengths in offense, so we have to take advantage of them. We have to take many moves while doing it."토토사이트 모음
LG, which is scheduled to arrive in Korea on the 28th, has to prepare for the KBL Cup.
Huh Il-young said, "What worries all teams is injury. It's the last training camp, and I want all the players to come back injury-free. As long as I don't get injured, I will have good results," adding, "The Cup will be held when I return home, and although it's a prelude, I have to be able to produce the color that the coach wants."

The battle in the basement of the apartment building, where we see Nam-san use a shotgun to blast his way through some of the doctor’s ‘enhanced’ individuals, is a total exhilarating blast. Ma Dong-seok has been a powerhouse for most of his career post Train to Busan, but he sends people flying whenever he throws his fist or pulls the trigger. _Badland Hunters_ also has to break a record for most decapitations in a film. **Full review:** https://bit.ly/bdlndhntr MovieGuys: Badland Hunters does something things well, others just passably. Action is wall to wall and well choreographed.Special effects are excellent. Characterisations are solid if predictable and the acting is not to be sniffed at. However, the story is unremarkable, with a climax that feels, well, anti climatic. In summary, an okay but hardly exceptional watch, that would have benefited from more creativity on the storytelling front. Ritesh Mohapatra: “Badland Hunters: A Visually Striking Action Spectacle with Narrative Shortcomings” In this post-apocalyptic action thriller, Badland Hunters, while suffering from a repetitive and clichéd plot and uninteresting characters, excels in stunning hand-to-hand choreography and scintillating action set pieces. The film benefits greatly from the expertise of its veteran stunt coordinator turned director, known for his work on Train to Busan. Commendable world-building, visionary concepts, and excellent VFX are hindered by conventional writing. The short, crisply edited runtime avoids unnecessary elements. Don Lee’s exceptional portrayal of Nam-san, with exhilarating action sequences, overshadows the film’s narrative weaknesses, making it a guiltily satisfying popcorn-worthy entertainer, particularly for adrenaline enthusiasts. Rambling About a Show (01/11/2024)
Tumblr media
⚠️SPOILER?!⚠️
I started this one on Monday(01/08/2024). When I started, I had no idea about the plot. So, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
In the beginning, Prosecutor Son Seok Ki doesn't seem like a great character. In fact, it seemed he was holding a personal vendetta against Dr. Cha Yo Han. In my opinion, Nurse Chae Eun Jung's personal vendetta was worse. I understand why. So, I'm not going to hold it against her. Granted she could have gone about everything from a different angle but, eh.
I admit I feel bad for thinking Son Seok Ki was lying about his stage 3 stomach cancer. I thought he was lying just to gather information to use against Cha Yo Han. He wasn't lying. Also, later on he becomes close with Cha Yo Han. These two literally went from enemies to friends. 😅
Speaking of friends I seriously loved Kim Won Hee's and Heo Joo's friendship. I thought it was absolutely adorable. Honestly, the entire team's friendship was adorable to me.
I thought it was funny that Lee Yoo Joon was an animal lover. Because the actor Hwang Hee was a vet in Tale of the Nine Tailed. That's the first time I saw him on screen. Also, seeing Kwon Hwa Woon as a bubbly, charismatic, funny doctor was a switch up from seeing him as a standoff-ish and kind of cold doctor in Mouse(which is where I saw him first).
There was a moment that hit a little too close to home. So, of course I got overly emotional about it. I know the show is fictional, but the scene was too relatable. 🥺 Still enjoyed every bit of it though.

THE ROUNDUP
GENRES: Action, Drama
SUMMARY: Kidnapping and ransoming Korean tourists overseas is big business, and baby, business is booming.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Suitcases full of cash, reformed gang bosses, Vietnamese travel, prisoner transfers, car chases, Summer heat, face slaps, single punches that incapacitate, international intelligence, terrible police sketches, machetes, and evil glances.
HOT TAKE: There should have been a subtitle to this movie--maybe 'Roundup: The Stabbening'--to prepare me for all the the thousands of little jabs, slices, and deep cuts this film has to offer. Just like in 'The Outlaws,' this one is jam packed with face slaps, insane punches, and some truly amazing stunt work. (Also some really questionable opinions on Vietnam and Vietnamese policing.)
I kinda love seeing Son Suk Ku as a villain! His dialogue is sparse here, but it just gives him more room for some stellar face and body-language acting, something that I enjoy him masterclassing whether he's a bad guy or a sweetie pie.

Ahn So-hee, an excellent reasoning for elaborate operation design
Tumblr media
In the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Missing: They Were There 2' Ahn So-hee is playing a brainchild between Go Soo and Heo Jun-ho.
'Missing: They Were There 2' (Director Min Yeon-Hong Lee Ye-Rim/Screenwriter Ban Gi-Ri Jeong So-Young/Planning Studio Dragon/Producer Mace Entertainment Doo Frame/Hereafter 'Missing 2') is a reactivated 'missing people', a new village of spirits, and their earnestness. A fantasy chase drama of 'The Soul Seeing Combi'.
It is heart-wrenching with a warm-toned story that uncovers the truth behind the deaths of the residents of the 3rd industrial complex in the village of spirits and allows them to overcome resentment and sublimate.
Among them, Lee Jong-ah (played by Ahn So-hee), based on her excellent hacking skills, plays a big role as a brain helping Kim Wook (played by Go Soo) and Pan-seok Jang (played by Heo Jun-ho), exuding a strong presence. He helps the investigation of the case of Kim Wook, Jang Pan-seok and Detective Shin Joon-ho (Ha Joon) by finding all the people of the Soul Village Industrial Complex 3, from their personal information to their whereabouts at the time of their disappearance, even with small clues.
Lee Jong-ah not only makes perfect inferences based on the collected information, but also sets up a meticulous strategy to catch the criminals who harmed the missing people, adding to the speed of solving the case with quick brain rotation and executive power.
In particular, in episode 7, Lee Jong-ah uses the mountain location signs 1-8 that Jang Pan-seok found in a picture of a child, Iroha (Kim Ha-eon), as a clue, and quickly searches for mountains with the same sign, which is the mountain with the highest probability of having Iroha's body. Following the discovery, he repeatedly emphasized the sign to Detective Il-Doo Baek (Ji-Han) of the missing team to induce a search.
In episode 10, Lee Jong-ah heard that the serial killer who killed Jang Pan-seok's daughter's local friends was related to the Blue Bird Hope Foundation, and analyzed all the volunteers' applications to find out that the serial killer was caregiver Kim Gun-joo (played by Oh Yoon-hong). Moreover, he played a big role in uncovering all the additional crimes of Kim Geon-joo, who had been murdering poor people in the name of making them peaceful.
Lee Jong-ah opened a cafe near Industrial Complex 3 to cover the expenses needed to find the missing people, and set up a new hideout to facilitate the investigation. A bar that warms the heart by doing its best. Expectations are rising as to what kind of activity Lee Jong-ah will do in the future as a strong supporter of Kim Wook and Jang Pan-seok.
