This section is usually reserved for a Garrett character (mostly Benny), but this week I caught up on the Like My Dreams series from @laurfilijames which followed Pete Dunham from Green Street Hooligans. Younger Jess was very obsessed with that movie and Pete and it’s been a fun trip down memory lane to rewatch that movie and then devour this delicious fic!

Things I watched:

Last Sunday I went to the movies and saw Wish. I thought it was a really cute movie and as a Disney fan I loved al of the little Easter eggs hidden throughout. I thought the songs were really cute too, it was a fun time and I can’t wait to show Baby Rhoorl this movie.

I was up late plotting and thotting one night and was flipping through the channels for some background noise and came across Troy and saw Baby Garrett. Seeing him next to Brad Pitt was quite a sight - they play cousins in the movie if you haven’t seen it. 

Personal Stuff

There’s been a lot happening at work this month and it’s derailed a bit of the progress I’ve been making on my health journey but I’m doing the best I can. I ran a few days this week, which was good! Mr Rhoorl and I had a date night and enjoyed a baby-free dinner out at a restaurant.

JANUARY: i was still on my gaymer boyfriend agenda but i also did the the eclipse but it's a comedy. But my favorite gif out of that month is 100% this:

FEBRUARY: bed friend and my school president was omi-present in this month. I also started more to experiment with adding stuff to my gifs. My favorite out of that month is this one:

MARCH: this was the month of midnight museum and my mike in a boss and a babe gifs. This is where doki doki kali style was born (funny because this is also my birth month..so it's fecking fitting ahjsdhasjkd) so my favorite gif of that month is hands down this:

APRIL: april was the same as march with some bed friend gif sprinkled in. but mostly midnight museum and me making fun of khatha. but for this month i will go with a whole gifset as my favorite. it's my khatha matching the artifacts in every episode gifset.

MAY: in may be my favorite joined the ranks of shows i going to make iconic gifsets for. And i was still doing the mike in our skyy gifsets. I think that was the only time i really was crunching out a gifset like on a specific time. Loved it but also it was very stressful hahaha. My favorite gif of this month is this one:

JUNE: be my favorite was in the main focus in that month but i also squeezes in my pan-coded bl people gifsets (looking back i did all of this while working FULLtime..idk what i was on) My favorite gif out of that one is this:

JULY: hidden agenda and be my favorite where the gifsets i did on the regular in that month. And i dipped my toes in working with "more then one gif in one gif" thing and i started to animate my own things i added on my gifs. My favorite out of that month is:

AUGUST: only friends and dangerous romance mayor things i gifed that month. I also started to do so much extra work for my gifs..like create a whole ass dialog wheel for my only friends gifs hahaha. Only friends really was just so mass effect/dragon age coded that i had to. With some of these decisions these idiots did hahah. My favorite out of that month is:

SEPTEMBER: in september i really got in a low of gifing..you could say i was starting the burn out. (because my mental health finally catched up on me and well...) I only gifed 6 gifsets in that month and my favorite out of all of these gif was this one because it was the easiest to do at that time:

OCTOBER: ohh spooky-tober was a treat, i fell into the kiseki: dear to me hole and i think came up with one of the most fun gifsets i have ever made at this point *playboyy looms over my shoulder*. my favorite out of this month has to be this one

NOVEMBER: November came and brought me playboyy and pitbabe and boy did these show change my brand. A stupid brainfart idea about adding peach emojis on gifs turned into well the fruity bunch and me condition people into thinking about playboyy when they see fruit. i can't really say what was my favorite gif for this month because all of them i love them dearly (even the evil gifset i had to make for @kayatoasted) but to not post yet another version of shell with a fruit penis i am going with this one:

DECEMBER: ohh december..my i sleep 50% of the day away and don't get shit done..but i somehow made 3 gifsets THREE..but are they iconic? because two of them are the sign gifsets? And both of them involve jellyfish? maybe? yes? but my fav of all of the gifs i DID is this one

@bitbybitwrites I think it is unrealistic to expect a full 110% perfect adaptation of anything. Like, Heartstopper comes eerily close, because Alice Oseman writes the scripts and as a fan I can recognise actual moments of the comic, and yet the show is still different. I think there are adaptations that are close to the source material (i.e. Heartstopper, The Prom) and adaptations that you need to see as a separate thing from the source material, and you need to see it as "inspired by X" (i.e. Love, Simon (where they even changed the title), RWRB). So yeah, I am not super surprised by the fact that changes have been made. I don't have to like them, but they make perfect sense. I miss the depth of the book, but I am fully aware you cannot condense all of that into a 2 hour movie.

I am not sure if I would want a trilogy or series or whatever. The thing is... as much as I enjoyed watching it in the moment, I don't see myself watching this movie again, unless, like Monday, I am invited to see it. I liked it. I didn't love it. I am content with watching the amazing gifsets from now on.

And yeah, I totally get my friend's point. I think it is always a tricky line between when something like this should matter and when it shouldn't. Given the source material, I do think it mattered. The bi journey chapter was so important. Again, she was the only one of us who appreciated there not being a journey, because she didn't know there was an original journey.

Re: your messages to forabeatofadrum (I hope you don't mind I group them together here with this post), I did clock that Matthew changed the ages. Not only by looks, which are obvious, but yes, I did notice that Alex was already in law school. Although I didn't realise he did that to indicate that he and Henry are older in this version. I just interpreted that as getting rid of another storyline with depth, namely Alex's struggles with the future and the way he is perceived in politics. Ah well.

Again, kinda wack. I think it is valid of me to miss it, but as my friend said, it also works the way it did in the movie and that is valid too.

23) Do you make your own wip covers?

Yup. It’s actually an ambition of mine to get good enough at drawing to be able to make all my book covers properly. Not there yet and I might never be but it’s a dream. Anyway for original novels I just do quick temp covers with a vaguely related royalty free stock image + text, nothing fancy. For fandom it depends I have done photo manips, I have done drawings, and for Sanctuary I did quite a few gifsets. I generally like to provide some kind of banner image to liven up the post whatever it is :)

37) Name a series you’ve abandoned writing

Ok I’m going to take the word ‘series’ loosely here. For the most part I am relatively good at finishing what I have started posting. Dredging my memory I think I have only abandoned 4 fanfics in my /cough 20+ years /cough. The first I was about 12 and it’s a very long story to explain. The second I was 19, it was a self-indulgent crossover and I wrote part 1 (it ended on a cliffhanger), but then I could not work out how to keep it going with the crossover element. It just failed the logic test of why everyone would still be included and so I posted all of my notes/thoughts as an epilogue (this was on ff.net) and gave up.

Where I start to feel guilty is with the more recent ones. I wrote for Once Upon a Time for a year or so and I really wanted people to like me, I wanted to feel included. So I jumped on every prompt going. My desperation could probably have been seen from space 🙄. Anyway I wrote two chapters of a rare… crossover pair (hard to explain anyelle quickly but basically that) and then I had so many WIPs in those days that it just constantly fell to the bottom of the pile and when I ran out of steam and stopped, it’s what was left undone. The other one I feel even more guilty about as I actually won a fandom award for it. That was called Painting Layers of Love, and the problem with that is I poured far too much of my own anxiety into one of the characters, and then obviously I wanted the character to be happy which meant dealing with their issues. Problem is I don’t know how to “fix it” as I can’t fix myself. So I stalled as I couldn’t see a way out and eventually just officially abandoned it /guilt /guilt.

For original novels… I struggle with the ‘abandoned’ part because I might go back to it, or I will cannibalise it and use parts elsewhere. I mean sure technically there is a series. I actually indie published Book One. I thought I had been so sensible as I had waited until I had drafted Book Two but I was behind and it was only a first draft. I should have had it fully ready, and if I had waited I would have known, but I had booked promotions and so couldn’t delay. Anyway when I went to revise Book Two it just fell apart. I tried redrafting it from scratch but I could just not make it work. Fortunately nobody had been all that interested and so I took Book One down quietly and decided to chalk it up to experience. I later indie published the first two novels in another series and had to also take them down (this time due to a mental breakdown) buuut that’s another story. And that series really isn’t abandoned as I do intend to fix it up and republish eventually. But yes I suppose the time travel crime series is abandoned. I get nostalgic for it but I don’t know that I will pick it up again. Never say never of course. But my original ideas are many (I could write solidly for a decade and not be done) so it’s not like I need to go back to it.

selections from my week in media [3-8 april 2023]

my head between your shoulder blades by pinkish - Until We Meet Again future fic - a series of quietly sweet Dean/Pharm vignettes - I love it.

Awaken - I almost dropped this at the halfway point because I was 90 percent sure they were going to pull a Mouse and it’s not nearly as good to pull that kind of twist off. But I’m glad I kept going because it ended just as unrealistically yet entirely as satisfyingly as I could have hoped for. If they ever do a season two, I already know what I want the plot to be (answering all my questions about what was up with the president’s son). 

Bokura no Shokutaku (Our Dining Table) - I was going to hold off on this until I’d reread the manga it’s based on, because I didn’t like it much the first time. But I’m confident I will love the series and the gifsets are too much to resist. LOL The first episode was so good and everything I love about jdramas. Another pottery studio setting was the icing on the cake though.

Chains of Heart - I so rarely figure out mystery plots that I’m so pleased with myself for figuring out this one. Go me. The emotional hook was the big 0707 date the show has been working toward and it was so good.

Kingdom: Legendary War - The performances for Road to Kingdom are what got me interested in this one, and what led me to starting Peak Time. Also, I knew ATEEZ had participated, so that moved it up the watchlist. I’m only a few episodes in and so far am loving it. I have a feeling I will love it less once the eliminations start happening, though. LOL

Till the End of the Moon - Well, I’m hooked. I try not to watch more than one of the same type of drama at the same time and this one fills the “fantasy cdrama” slot for the forseeable future. I’m two episodes in and so far it’s great. The cast is very pretty, the dubbing isn’t too distracting, the story is interesting, and Chuntao is adorable.

Unintentional Love Story - My single complaint is still the kissing. But the way Taejoon hugs Wonyoung makes up for a lot. He just envelopes him in his arms and holds on. It’s great. There was a lot of pain this week, because it was time for the truth to come out. I didn’t expect where they went, but it worked so well. So many emotions over the course of two episodes. I loved it and I’m going to miss this show when it’s over. More thoughts here.

tell me about hardison. please please tell me about hardison. i am asking i do v much want to know what you think

did i make this gifset as an escapism from studying? no. no, of course not.

ANYWAYS. since i already a lil post with some writing about my favourite parts of hardison's character, i thought i'd make a gifset of my top 10 favourite ✨alec hardison✨ moments, in order.

10) 2.08 – it's moments like these that make me remember hardison was the one pulling this reluctant family closer together, and none of them know how to behave now that they're part of a family.

9) 2.05 – this grift in general is just hilarious, as well as the episode. aldis hodge is just great at delivering these kind of comic relief/serious lines.

8) 1.02 – he sets the tone! he is literally the glue – after nate. he is the mission statement. he's just a young sociable guy who's really good with computers, looking to use his skills, and then he finds them, and it's oh, i can steal from people, hang out with these weird, talented people, AND be on the moral high ground?

7) 3.04 – now there are lots of fun moments in this episode, but i like him here, just doing the impossible trying to keep the 'rottweiler' from biting all of his friends.

6) 3.04 – need i say anything? (but i will nonetheless.) i mean, he's just breathtaking here, hypnotism aside. it was one of the times that made me wonder what else is in hardison's past? violin is one of the harder instruments to learn and he just ended up being crazy good at it at 14 (iirc)? literally king shit.

5) 4.10 – he is a problem solver, he is a lover, he is a decent hummer. i just love how into it he gets. the way he loves parker is one of my favourite things about him. just before i started watching leverage i was like "god, are there any good het relationships on tv", and then i just saw hardison with his joy at everything parker did and his understanding when she couldn't quite voice what she wanted yet. a being of love and nerdiness, he is!

4) 4.07 – i swear there is cocaine in the season 4. this episode was everything. but this scene? the quiet but overwhelming fear? him working to help the team find him as much as he can? every time i watch this scene i can't look away. "i don't want to be alone again." sir you are literally driving me insane.

3) 5.09 – now this is obviously one of THEE episodes of the series, the ot3 episode. i also love love love how they went full ham on showing off hardison's skills (which i wrote about here), but i LOVE an unhealthy amount how they showed his fear, and therefore his bravery. eliot and parker work through stressors fairly efficient, but hardison's fear is overwhelming, and alone, he couldn't temper it. this moment for his character was so important because after years of doing the hard job so that other people can have some security, he believes he has reached the limits of his skills. we're nearing the end of the season and we're seeing the most intense version of his fear.

2) 4.01 – i would rank this episode in my top 5 of the whole series, but that's for another day. his dramatic moment is funny (and i think that's its main intention) but it's also touching. i mean, he's just tapping at his computers not sure if his best friends' are okay, if the job is going to work, and then he hears their voices again, and you can see the weight come off of him. another show of his strength!

1) 3.07 – if i could describe to you how much this scene makes me laugh. hardison complains so much and his whole monologue is makes me scream (humorously). it's number one just for the pure hysterics of it. (for the reader's peace of mind, i am black.) from a wide view of the show, i just like how, with hardison's character, he's a black guy, not a Black Guy. it's not his personality, but it is his experience. it's not the main act, but it is an undercurrent. obviously leverage is not the type of show to make nuanced statements on race, but i think moments like this are just it! yes we live in a fucked world. yes it sucks. yes write about it and make the stories we tell an escape of that fact and a re-rendering of that fact.

did you watch lucifer season six and what are your thoughts pls and ty

Ahaha. Yes. Yes I did watch it. Then I cried for a literal hour and attempted to compose myself, only to start crying again when I lay down and kept on thinking about it. Then I had more feelings. Then I slept like the dead due to emotional trauma. Then I reblogged gifsets and had More feelings. Then @buffaluff and @flynnanimal watched it and also required emotional support due to drowning in their own tears. So, uh... we're all fine here now. How are you?

My main takeaway from the final season was the sheer amount of love for the characters, story, and fans that you could feel shining through all the episodes, and which made SUCH a refreshing change. I had feelings in my tags the other day about how a show about the devil was constantly goofy, hopeful, loving, and uplifting, rather than all the grimdark nonsense they could have easily done with it. (As I said, just imagine it as written by the GOT idiots?? NO THANK YOU.) The writing really loved everyone and wanted to give them a proper ending and emotional journey, and it wanted to show the fans that they weren't stupid for having invested six seasons of effort and emotion into this, and just... that is so much rarer than it should be? Compare all the movies and TV shows that treat their fans like the enemy, that want to outsmart them at all costs even if it means changing major plot elements, that ferociously guard spoilers and think that "shock value" means good writing, by throwing hackneyed cliche upon cliche and making everything Depressing, and just... Lucifer had its hiccups and slow points and missteps, of course, but I am SO glad they didn't do that. The entire show consisted of Lucifer slowly but steadily progressing toward being a better man, despite mistakes and setbacks and sometimes a little too much will-they-won't-they. (Season 3 was the only one where I got bored and skipped over the filler episodes with Pierce/Lucifer/Chloe in order to get to the end).

That is an essentially simple premise, but they stuck to it, and they didn't try to create more drama by randomly wrecking what they had already established. I wrote a fic all the way back in mid-season 2 (In Nomine Patris) that ended up predicting quite a few of the future characters who had not yet appeared on the show at that time, including Eve, Michael, and Azrael, and several plot points, including the very major one of Lucifer returning to hell for the sake of his daughter with Chloe. And while this might mean that I am just that good at guessing TV shows (I would like to think this....) it also means that the writers set expectations, followed through on those expectations, and didn't suddenly derail everything or turn it totally on its head just for the sake of cheap shocks. As we can all attest, they certainly caused PLENTY of drama, anguish, pain, and suffering, but they did it in a way that remained faithful to the overall premises of the story and the characters, and wanted to see them become the best versions of themselves. I cried my eyes out at the end and then thought, "hey, I might want to watch the whole series again," which, if you ask me, is the mark of doing your job right. There have been so few TV endings recently where I didn't immediately swear off the whole thing or have to pretend that canon didn't exist, so yeah.

As I said, it was just refreshing to watch something that had that essential deep generosity at its core, where the message is that everyone is worthy of love if they make the hard and painful effort to change and become better, and that even if earthly things feel small next to all this messy celestial drama, they still matter, and that you are loved no matter what. I loved that Amenadiel became God and Lucifer returned to hell as a choice in order to help all the trapped souls be able to work through their guilt and go to heaven. There were obviously certain echoes of The Good Place in that ending; I don't know if it was something they had planned all along or if the success of TGP, another series asking deep questions about life, death, morality, and human nature within the framework of a goofy heaven-and-hell sitcom, influenced it, but either way, it worked so well. Even if it tore my heart out and stomped on it on the ground, it was fitting and oh so lovely to see Lucifer, once the most selfish being in the entire universe, following in Linda's footsteps and becoming selflessly dedicated to helping other people. Just. Chef's kiss.

And of course, Deckerstar. The Hades and Persephone vibes were IMMACULATE this season, and while it did take Lucifer and Chloe the best part of four seasons to get together, they never significantly backslid, never had third-party issues or cheap cheating storylines once they were officially a couple, and Tom Ellis and Lauren German REALLY killed it this season in particular. It was never easy for them and sometimes the drama went on a little too long over the course of said six seasons, but the love story was beautiful and incredibly meaningful and always true to the fact that the actors and characters and writers (not to mention the fans) all loved it so much. They were so much the emotional heart of this, and when they went to hell together in episode 6x03 (where they turned into cartoons because wHAT even IS this show), Joe Henderson said in an interview that this was to give the fans a view into Lucifer and Chloe's future (after) lives post-6x10, and to offer them a basis to write fanfiction. I mean... the showrunner saying to the fans "here, we love you, have something to write fic about!" is likewise pretty shockingly rare. It's again an example of how this show always audaciously poked fun at itself, never took itself TOO seriously, and was always welcoming its fans and the people who loved it to do so, rather than making them feel stupid or taking joy in wrecking beloved characters or plots.

Obviously, I loved Rory, the badass lesbian half-angel goth Deckerstar child straight out of My Immortal (seriously, she was SO edgy, it was amazing), because of the fact that Lucifer's entire arc was always about feeling abandoned by his father and that he was going to have to face it for himself. Dorky Devil Dad Lucifer trying his absolute HARDEST to bond with his daughter was simultaneously hilarious, adorable, and heart-wrenching, and yet again, the Growth. We all remember when he could barely tolerate Trixie touching him, and now we're here. Also, any variation whatsoever of "this is just a brief moment of time that we must be apart, love is eternal and stronger than death and we will never really leave each other" as a line is guaranteed to make me bawl my eyes out. So that was fun.

I got a big kick out of Ghost Dan running around and trying to get everyone to see him, and had feelings about seeing him in heaven with Charlotte and his beloved Pudding Pops at the end. I had feelings about how they handled Ella finding out the truth (or rather demanding to know why nobody had told her) and of course, I obviously loved Maze and Eve and their goth/femme wedding and the fact that they got a good three-season romantic arc (indeed, I wanted more of them). My god, Trixie is SO BIG, she used to be a tiny little nugget. I love that Linda was the moral and emotional rock all along, from the first episode to the very last, and that Amenadiel was Deeply Vindicated when Charlie's wings appeared at his first birthday party. I love how Lucifer in s6 is absolute thousands of light years from Lucifer in s1. And as ever, Chloe was Perfect. I am happy that I spent six seasons with these characters and saw them become better, and that I was never made to feel like an idiot for trusting the writers to end everything in a beautiful and emotional way. Because, well. They did. Sure, maybe I could go back and pick at a plotline here or a detail there, but I don't terribly feel the need to do so? It might not have been perfect, but it was perfect, and I am so grateful that it existed.

I throughly enjoyed the new taskmaster episode, maybe it's because of the lack of enthusiasm in the dark void of my current life, maybe because it is good indeed, or even both who knows? I like all the contestants so far, especially my beloved Alan, and I think the series is going to be a good one

i'm really optimistic about the series based on the first episode! i'll start off with some actual observations and slowly derail into just...all of my thoughts, probably:

victoria coren mitchell

the contestants have a bit of an older average age, interestingly! if you think back to some of the 40-something+ contestants (richard osman, bob, mel, hugh, noel, rhod, mark watson, liza, etc.), they all 1) didn't try too hard and sacrifice comedy in the meantime, and 2) had great, comfortable rapports with greg. their seniority in the industry gives them the confidence to dick about, challenge greg, question the format, flub on purpose or cheat and get away with it — and all without trying too hard. plus, a lot of these comedians know greg and alex from being in the same business for a while. so i've alwaaays loved the more mature contestants, and this season the youngest is 35! i'm so excited about that!! you can tell from the first episode alone they're mostly gonna laugh at themselves, which i love??

on the whole, the tasks weren't overly complicated — BLESS

is there a studio audience or did the editing team just NAIL the laugh track? IT'S SO MUCH BETTER WITH LAUGHS. the dry echoes of s10 (which i just rewatched) fucking scarred me oml i'm so happy with this

i think desiree dressed a little flamboyantly for the recorded tasks, but i'm actually so happy no one wore a totally ridiculous outfit for the duration of the series. it's kind of an worn gag at this point (kudos to the first contestant or two to do it, and phil wang's cock which i'll probably never forget). victoria's outfit? the long skirt with the boots and her lil gloves? so cute ogdkjfghflkdhzk

not to call victoria out but did we not all predict exactly how she was going to be? mocking/question the tasks while also being the most competitive one there? the way MORE THAN ONCE she didn't even digest all of the information on the card to do the tasks correctly yet clearly cared enough to feel a little demoralised at botching them... so victoria. WHICH WAS VERY CUTE ;_:

why is alan already so tired omg LMAO let my man take a nap and get a bonus point for no reason, he's already been through enough IN LIFE!!! also unrelated but his skin is beautiful

guz is the only contestant i wasn't really familiar with before the series but he's already...so funny. i'm CACKLING when he breaks out the pure pakistani accent and his comedic beats are gold. can't yet decide if he's an affable weirdo (à la paul chowdhry) or a lowkey nutcase (mel giedroyc) but i cannot WAIT to find out

I literally couldn’t get it out of my head. It felt so real to me that I was in physical pain while reading it. Soul Searching by OptimisticBeth | 205k | E | Soulmates AU where Ben is Rey’s teacher? Sign me the fuuuuck up, and Soul Searching is so fucking well written. I go back to this one every few weeks and just gush at how great the world building is. I love the relationship Rey has with Leia and Han. It’s rich with love and angst and fluffffff. So good. 

Coveted by OptimisticBeth | 82k | E | WIP | OptimisticBeth is just an incredible writer, so you should honestly read all of her stuff, but I am so, so, so into this fic. It’s A/B/O and Ben’s Rey’s pack leader. He, along with a bunch of other Alphas are trying to court Rey, a highly desired Omega. It’s so fucking delicious, y’all. Alpha Ben Solo is just...it doesn’t get much better. 

A Treehouse Covered in Salt by violethoure666 | 34k | E | This fic made me cry my eyes out. I’m not kidding. It’s so raw and real. It hurts to read at some points, but you care so much about Ben and Rey in this that you fight through the pain. They grow up together as neighbors and Han builds them a treehouse where they meet throughout their childhoods/teen years. Prepare to cry but also be so fulfilled and satisfied. It’s wonderful. love it when you call me lover by @kylotrashforever​​ | 66k | E | WIP | First, let me say that anything by KTF is going to be gold. These fics I have listed are just a few of my favorites at the moment. Lover is hot as fuck (as is all of her stuff) but also fluffy in the best way. It’s in Sadsville right now so I’m fucking PUMPED for her to update. Ben’s a doctor who basically gives Rey a sexual awakening when he proves her statement of “I just don’t think I can come from (insert sexual act here)” very, very wrong.

The Food of Love by @lovesbitca8​ | 60k | E | Y’all. If you haven’t read this yet, please stop what you’re doing and read it RIGHT NOW. I ate this fic up in one sitting because holy SHIT it’s amazing. It’s so well written and the story is just... absolutely exquisite. Ben is cellist that’s also a famous rockstar and Rey’s an up and coming violinist and they fall in loOOoOOve in the best, most angsty, sexiest way. Please just read it right now. The scene when she firsts goes to his apartment and plays one of his cellos............you guys. It’s a lot.

Already Home by AttackoftheDarkCurses | 81k | E | This is soulmates + A/B/O so naturally I am obsessed with it. Rey gets connected with her soulmate via a website and he’s going by the name Kylo Ren. At the same time, she’s also moving in with grumpy librarian Ben Solo. She falls in love with both but has no idea that they’re the same person. It’s INCREDIBLE. 

Tangled but Unbroken by AttackoftheDarkCurses | 20k | M | I read this the other night and it’s so fucking soft. I am such a fucking sucker for growing up together fics and this is just such top quality. The braiding kills me every goddamn time. Also, I’m making my way through all of Attack’s works right now and they’re all incredible. Highly recommend. 

Dear Mr. President by @shmisolo​ | 89k | E | I love this Ben so much. The characterization is so on the money. The angst is absolutely delicious. The smut is top brass. Oh, and did I mention they’re soulmates? It’s everything you need, I promise.

i kill giants  | 34k | E | WIP | The TROS fix-it we all need. Ben is alive and finds Rey on Tatooine. It’s soft and Thea does a great job of soothing so many of the gaping wounds we were left with after TROS. My heart soars every time I read a new chapter. This is what we deserved. :(

QOTS Rewatch - 1x03 - Estrategia de Entrada

I know I’ve said this for episodes 1x01 and 1x02 as well, but 1x03 is another contender for my series top 10. Definitely a season 1 top 5! It’s another Jeresa showcase and, this should not be news to anyone, IMO those are generally the best episodes because of the dynamism of their relationship. In this episode we start to see James taking better stock of Teresa and it’s clear that he’s unnerved by her. While in 1x02 he was really just trying to keep her alive while also trying to complete an important job, 1x03 gives him the chance to slow down and assess. He begins the episode annoyed by Camila’s interest in her (partly protective instinct? but I think partly she just makes his life more difficult and he’s in robot mode). But by the end, he’s one part unnerved and one part impressed. The turning point obviously is her catching the counterfeit money in the deal with Lopez. But I’ll get more into that below.

We also see in this episode glimpses of Teresa’s suffering behind the guarded front she puts up. It’s so hard to see. It’s good to rewatch this after seeing season 5 when we had such high expectations of her integrity and felt so disappointed in her, while James ended up looking like the one with scruples. NOT so in season 1. I almost cringed at some of his “tough love” talks, knowing how much she was struggling beneath the surface. Poor woman just needs a hug :( So I don’t think we’re at a place yet where he cares for her, or where (if he does) that care shows. But the seeds are planted. He clearly feels protective of her to some degree, and I think she feels that too, or at least dimly senses it? But I don’t think she’s putting a lot of energy into trying to figure him out yet. She’s still just surviving. And is going to do a bunch more surviving this episode.

The opening Guero dream/flashback--as I put thoughts in the tags of this gifset, it’s jarring seeing a Teresa so soft and then watch her wake up in that cage.

Then the queenpin tells her that this is as good as her day is gonna get. And Teresa looks SO sad, it hurts. It’s interesting to remember that WE are privy to the raw emotions she’s going through, even though Camila and James are definitely not. We get to see her soft underbelly in these early episodes. I will be watching out for when that underbelly starts to harden.

Camila’s business partner tells her that Epifanio has killed "anything [Teresa] cared about.” It’s not really clear what that means, but I’m going to assume it means she has no family and has had no family for a long time. If she did, she would have surely tried to get in touch with them.

James moved her up! From the floor to a cot! Progress!

So smart of her to not talk to Brenda from her own phone. As I said above, this is the episode we really see that she’s got an acute sixth sense for danger and extremely good survival instincts.

Speaking of Brenda, she’s in the same clothes from the pilot; I wonder how many days it’s been? At least several? Where has she been sleeping? Poor woman.

Jeresa staring contest!* One of my favorite Teresa/James scenes this season. She’s just sitting there, looking like the Queen but in street clothes. James is clearly uneasy, just staring at her for a minute before she thanks him for putting her with the mules. Then he GRABS HER and pushes her against the chain link fence to try to coach her. What’s his endgame here? I’m not sure he knows himself. A little bit wanting to protect her, a little bit wanting to protect himself, a little bit posturing to her? (*Quite a long ways to go before we get to a softer staring contest...)

“I don’t know how much shit you’re in, but I know what you’re trying to do.” “And what am I doing?” “You’re  trying to ingratiate yourself with Camila.” I love this exchange. First of all because he feels the need to grab her arm, stand approximately 2 inches away from her, and continue to touch her during the rest of the exchange. Second, because you see her lower lip twitch JUST A LITTLE BIT when he says that she’s trying to ingratiate herself with Camila--like an acknowledgement that he’s right. Third because you can practically SEE the electricity between them. And honestly after watching this scene a few times in a row I feel like they both feel it too, even though they have no idea what it is yet. They hold eye contact a little bit too long; they study each other; James fidgets, Teresa watches. SO good.

We meet Isabela! Yawn.

Teresa with James and entourage at Sam’s Club. I love his “if you see something strange” line. Little does he know that she’s exactly the right person to put in charge of watching for anything strange.

Watching her get manhandled, yet again, by the DEA agents--even though they’re fake--is so intense. I remember watching that live the first time. This is her... third time getting kidnapped? (First time by Epifanio, second time on Camila’s mule route?) We get another queenpin vision here, telling her not to snitch.

The look on her face--stricken--when she gets out of the van to face Camila. If she didn’t know yet that this was a hard world, now she knows.

And then James all “wtf?” in the van as she’s wandering around the parking lot. I really wish we’d gotten to hear her tell him what had happened.

And he keeps going on about how she needs to stay under Camila’s radar. Her response? To ask to meet Lopez, because if she knows too little, she’s “disposable.” James: “did you listen to a word I said?” Lol. Then James reluctantly vouching for her. You can see his eyeroll behind his sunglasses.

Teo: “your husband has his big toe stuck in most of the shipping in the gulf, and I think we both understand what he’s shipping... and it’s not swordfish.” Lol. Honestly though, I wish we’d gotten more glimpses into the mechanics of the business like we do in this conversation between Teo and Camila. The book gets into this stuff a lot more and I actually find it interesting--plus it’s what Teresa was most strong at.

Then the whole scene with Lopez where the guy cracking his neck tips her off to something being off, and she gets to show off that she can tell counterfeit money by its weight. This scene always makes me so proud of her, lol. This is in her blood.

A few things other about this scene. One, I LOVE that the background song is “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane lol. So many possible layers there but it’s cute. Two, I love how James is all like “omg WHAT do you want” when Teresa says something feels off about the money. He COULD have just told her off at that point, because honestly, what does she know, it’s her second day on the job and she’s telling him that something feels off? But he doesn’t tell her off. He listens to her even though he’s obviously super put out lol. Three, Teresa’s utter cool the entire time. She just wins that whole scene. Four, the way he watches her check the money. That’s it. Just that. Five, the fact that James learns something specific about Teresa’s traumatic past as a money changed. No reaction, but he registers it. Files it away. Six, the way when Lopez walks back in, she hands James the stack of cash--it’s his problem now, she won’t say anything, she’ll let him handle it his way. But then seven, how he makes it clear it’s her who thinks it’s fake--making her responsible. And now her life is on the line, but she’s that sure. Eight, how she has to find another fake bill, and when she does, and hands it to James, they do their silent head nod/eye contact thing to communicate “you sure?” “yes I’m sure.” Nine, the cherry on top is that she’s even right about who stole the cash and where he hid it. MY GOD. It’s so good. CLASSIC JERESA, plus classic badass Teresa. I miss it.

And then James tests her: what should happen to Lucian? He should be let go. “Wrong choice,” he says. Camila says it was the wrong choice too--women cannot afford to look weak in this business. (And how right she was... not killing Boaz in season 5 was the unfortunate parallel to this, precisely because it made her look weak.)

Camila tries to give her a Rolex? Really? Wtf is Teresa, who is sleeping on a cot in your filthy warehouse, going to do with a Rolex?

I love how she glares at James when Camila tells her that she made the wrong choice. She’s like, c’mon dude, you had to tell on me? Was that necessary? Get over yourself lol.

And as soon as we’re back in the warehouse with her, back in her cage, we see behind her steely front to the anguish she’s really feeling, as she sheds tears over the patron saint Malverde token :(

And then Brenda pours salt in the wound, telling her that whatever she’s going through is 1000 times worse than what Teresa is going through. Teresa has to summon the strength for the both of them in that moment. And she’s barely holding it together.

Now, Tumblr’s new feature just seems like yet another great way of shooting themselves in the foot. They already lost a good amount of traffic due to their NSFW ban back in 2018, and now this? It’s like Tumblr wants to shut down. smh I really wonder how many artists will leave this time because of this bullshit. :/

No problem! I'm a pretty chatty person sometimes so I can really ramble off and on, so glad to hear it helped this time!

But yeah, while the whole post+ thing is optional, and you can make it apply to a post by post basis, i don't think that's going to matter.

Here's the thing: I think even if someone had all of their post+ posts as completely original content, if they have content from other IPs on their blog, and I mean literally just reblogs or gifsets or normal tumblr things, that there's still a potential legal issue there, because post+ is a subscription feature, a subscription for a blog, blogs that can contain other properties on them, and while you may not be charging money for that IP directly on your paid posts, they're all still "connected" by being on your blog, which is making money that does not go back to the original creator

Though honestly let me say Tumblr is going to get into soooooooooo much more trouble than any of us because not only are they implementing this whole system, but they take a cut of your subscription fees, so while all of us might be making small chump change should we actually monetize, Tumblr is going to accumulate wealth from all of those hundreds and hundreds fees into real substantial money. Money that by definition does not belong to them, because all those monetized blogs are filled with Sherlock and Homestuck and Supernatural and Marvel and Disney and-- you get the point

Even I'm skirting the line. I say "oh donate if you like my blog or writing" without asking payment for any specific work in particular or specific, but the overall sum of my blog and my works is fanfiction therefore to even ask for donations in that general sense is still... yeah not technically allowed

So yeah I have no idea what the tumblr team is thinking like, they must not have any legal counsel or any legal advice they sought out before making this announcement. Literally even just the articles published about this massive change to the website is going to draw the attention of all those mega corporations before any of us get noticed, like ringing a massive alarm that says "HEY THIS WEBSITE IS GONNA STEAL YOUR SHIT"

Or... everything could be fine. But I doubt it because the capitalist world is fucking cutthroat and everything is about money, everything. The best outcome to this scenario i can think of is that tumblr is purchased by some massive media company and the site is forced to conform to whatever they want the site to be. Worst case is tumblr fucking vanishes without any warning and all of us lose our drafts and our fans and our only ways of contacting certain people because staff bailed and deleted without giving us any time to prepare. The Mandalorian S2Ep2 reactions

- I’m not an arachnophobe, but I can imagine this ep wasn’t much fun for those of us who are, I’m so sorry you guys

- I have never vibed with a character more than with Din when he said “Am I under arrest?”. I, too, am that level of exhausted. the ‘I guess this is happening but you literally cannot force me to have an emotion about it’ tier of tired

- much like the second episode of the first season, this second episode wasn’t about anything as trivial as plot development or starting a new arc; as every episode of the Mandalorian should be it’s about Din Djarin having a very bad no good horrible day that only keeps escalating on him and him being low-key exhaustedly bitchy about it while also stumbling through being a single dad, and I for one am living for it

- what did I tell you, they WERE saving up those dad & baby interaction resources for other episodes! a blessing 

-when baby cuddled up to his dad for the nap... the fact that as din sleeps he unthinkingly turns towards the baby a bit so that he’s basically shielding him with his body...... BABY’S LITTLE HAMMOCK IN THE SLEEPING COMPARTMENT DFHSDKJFHSDJKHFSKDJHF

- I’m choosing to believe din kept his armour (BOOTS INCLUDED) on while sleeping because he needed to be ready at a moment’s notice and because his hypervigilance won’t let him relax without it while there’s someone other than him and the kid around, not because that’s what he usually does, because that’s one level of crazy too far

- god, I love the razor crest so much, what a precious beaten up hunk of junk it is. din really pulled the ‘my car is too old and shitty to need plates’ and has gotten away with it for so long

that entire conversation was pure gold, honestly, up to and including the way he just went quiet for a few seconds upon realizing the game was up and then sent the whole ship into a sudden nose dive fshadfhsa. (that’s my preferred way of ending conversations too din it’s okay) the way you could see mando get tenser and tenser but there was also an underlying tone of comedy to it? exactly the sort of thing I was ready for today, tense but bizarrely funny is the mood of the hour (din IS pretty damn good at flying though! I wonder who taught him)

also they played the kuiil music while din was working to fix up the ship ;______;

- I’ve seen people say din needs to feed this baby properly (and it is very funny) but honestly din seems kind of surprised/taken aback at just how hungry the kid is all the time now, so I’m wondering if he’s actually in the beginning of a growth spurt or his brain is doing a lot of developing? we hear him get much closer to active babbling in this ep, I think his big lil force vibin’ brain needs a bunch of nutrients because it’s g r o w i n g 

- I like the way this show tackles star wars language barriers and the ways they can be solved, and not only because it’s hilarious to watch very talented actors belt out a series of unnatural noises with straight faces (well, straight helmets in din’s case I suppose) 

- I will reblog every single gifset of baby running towards his dad and being picked up safely. I will tattoo that shit on my heart.  

- Stop Giving Din Djarin Serious Head Trauma Challenge 2020 (he was passed out for long enough that frost had started to form on his helmet???? That is NOT good for you!!!) 

- Frog lady using the corpse of Zero to communicate... perfection, but also why the everloving fuck did Din keep that fashfklahsd

- "if you put one mark on him there's no place you will be able to hide from me" ooooooooh it’s the way he doesn’t even raise his voice, it’s not a threat, it’s just a straightforward statement of fact in his normal soft voice and it’s all the scarier for it

- local dad gets unkindly shaken awake from much-needed nap three separate times, does not deserve this, let him rest

- new republic dudes showing up like ‘don’t worry we’re the chill police. haha get it? ‘cause it’s an ice planet but also we’re (somewhat implausibly) letting you off the -- anyway have fun trying not to freeze to death lawl latrz’  

- some people seem upset that this is basically filler, and I sympathise with the distress but also... this is the ‘cheerfully wallowing in filler’ show. that’s like half of season 1 too. (personally I find that mix of old fashioned case of the week and slice of life thing they’ve got going on very charming and calming, but of course that’s down to taste. I’m in no hurry to get where we’re going, and I’m glad the show doesn’t seem to be yet either)

also I do think this ep is doing some thematic things with parents and children that might make more sense when you see the season as a whole -- you have mando with the baby and frog lady with her babies-to-be up against the big fuck-off spider with its fucking army of spiderlings, there’s something going on here with the empathy and recognition that the love you feel for your child is mirrored in another person’s love for theirs (I really liked that din and frog lady protected each other’s kids as well, just very wholesome and nice... except those eggs eaten by yodito I guess. uh well it’s not a perfect metaphor I suppose lol)

jatp fanworks appreciation - day 1 (gifs/edits)

motivation - so in true me fashion and my aversion to brevity, i've made three (3) posts (see also writers, artists) to celebrate the wonderful people in this fandom who have made my jatp tumblr experience what it is; a community of people who simply shout into the void about their love of a ghost band and their fearless female leader. i've enjoyed simply being on the sidelines admiring everyone's love for the show, but i thought this would be a good time to really show my appreciation for all these wonderful people, because if i've learned anything from this pandemic, it's that there is NEVER a wrong time to tell someone that they are simply ✨the best✨.

disclaimer: i don't interact with most of these people personally and i simply absorb their content from afar and scream about how wonderful they are in the tags.

There are so many people who constantly put out gifsets and edits that absolutely blow my mind, and it’s basically just my follow list, but here are some that I constantly see churning out content at insane intervals.
