#heroes rant

Re about the FEH vs Cipher rant from the last day...
Back when Cipher was a thing, we could have gotten this fanart.
Sure it's only fanart and all, but this is, imo, better at "making the characters live between the games" than releasing a very sad'n'lonely about a goddess whose only wish is to bang you.
Silly and fun things were supposed to be the theme of seasonal banners, imagine if we got some sort of "trying to emulate heroes they look up to" lizard banner, with Y!Tiki using a sword, Myrrh trying to use a lance, Kana using a cardboard Yato, and, idk, Fa trying to use Igrene's bow (their sprites being something like Amelia's trainee sprites where she tumbles with her lance or something weird, like Billy's animations, maybe instead of stabbing with the lance, Myrrh throws it and it falls, dealing damage, on the opponent, something like that) -
Sure we would have the obnoxious fans rant about "characters getting alts" again, with extra salt from the A!Tiki stans - but just think of the fun and cute interactions in a multiverse...
Instead, we have "orientalism : the festival" banners, "bunnies for those who are horny!" banners, the "bridal harem!" banner and a bunch of non interesting stuff.
Tea-time last year might have been something nice - 1st gen Jugdral parents meeting their children and trying to make up for, well, not being there in the second gen - but it had to be Fodlan'd (with Mercedes suddenly forgetting she left Adrestia) because gods forbid we have no Fodlan unit on a banner or FEH devs miss on an occasion to remind the world Lysithea loves sweets.
(I wouldn't have meant a Ferdie backpack to, idk, Siggy or something, where he could say that those ceremonies are common in Fodlan, and an occasion to spend time with people you care about instead of saying those weird "let's have tea breaks while we're invading people because taking a break is more important than their lives i guess" nonsensical lines, that would, honestly, make any Jugdral character from this banner reduce him to 1 HP).
Anyways,
While Cipher had its share of lewd designs - it also showed more care and love the for characters of the franchise than FEH - or maybe the artists had more leeway in FE Cipher than in FEH, I mean, Daisuke Izuka draws awesome units in FEH, but on his X channel, he drew... Riev T-Posing, or his anniversary arts always feature badasses (Hardin vs Hardin, this year's league of super villains, Sharena's parents being in luf and dancing while smacking bandits right and left, etc etc).
Given what we get in anniversary artworks...
(yep, even Cleobulus and Cyril being a weird match up)
I'd more interested in having those ideas than another "but she is forced to do evil things by an evyl figure and is very sad and very lonely and just needs your luf" shit of a story.

Everyone, I want to take full responsibility for this because I’ve been watching this series non-stop on all the streaming services, posting about it on YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter where I have refused to shut up about it at all. Constantly having “ideas” for what could happen next. I’ve written “scripts” for these potential scenarios that “may never happen.” But I still didn’t give up.
However, if it ends up like Heroes: Reborn… goodness. I tried to enjoy that series… but something about it was just so lackluster in comparison to it’s predecessor. (It had potential but it didn’t quite reach it) even with Heroes own flaws it wasn’t half as bad as Reborn, main issue; I didn’t feel much connection to any of the new characters… there wasn’t much to work with, and it’s a risk starting anew when someone is familiar and set on an idea so I tried to push that aside to enjoy it… however there was much I couldn’t just let go even if I wanted to. There was much ambiguity on what happened to certain characters and lack thereof (Peter, Emma, even Sylar) that was not satisfying enough. I am not someone who needs to be spoon fed things, and can respect the reason behind some characters exits, but however it felt like they were trying to push something out there for Peter’s disappearance without ever revealing it. (And when you remember they didn’t even try to contact Milo for this series— its no wonder he doesn’t want to come back now) although bringing back original characters only to kill them… that really added insult to injury. And even I think it’s okay to kill characters, Nathan Petrelli was my favorite, so I am not beyond allowing my favorites to die, it’s HOW you execute that, as long as it was written well there ain’t much you can complain about.
I do my best not to be the most nit picky person who expects a lot out of a show. I know the original had flaws, I personally have the most complaints about season 3 (I find the first half to be the weakest one of the series. I am very generous to season 2 due to the writers strike, it had a somewhat intriguing storyline.) So as we all know, I am not expecting anything show-stopping, there even are things in Reborn I felt had a lot of potential, which is a lot of the issue. It always comes back to wasted potential.
Which is why I hope this next chance isn’t wasted like Reborn!

It’s honestly so upsetting to see that the majority of people just don’t understand that Tomura doesn’t actually get enjoyment from killing people.
Tomura has literally felt so sick to his stomach that he has thrown up when he has killed people before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The difference between all of the times Tomura has felt physically ill from killing people and all of the times that Tomura has gotten “enjoyment” from it (Tomura doesn’t feel enjoyment, he feels relief.) is that each time the person he killed had hurt him first.
Killing the people that hurt him is just genuinely the only thing that Tomura can think of to get them to finally stop so that they won’t hurt him anymore.
Tenko had originally reached out to his father for help, only for him to be struck by him with a gardening tool… and only then Tenko killed (with purpose) his father to stop him from hurting him again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tomura only wanted to kill the two drunk men after they had hurt him for literally just walking down the street:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tomura wanting to kill the heroes that had hurt him (with the intention of killing him):
Tumblr media
Tomura still doesn’t get enjoyment from killing people who hurt him, but he does experience relief from it…
((Edit: I would just like to clarify that the relief that Tomura feels from killing people that hurt him comes from knowing that they can’t hurt him anymore (relief that he is safe, even if temporarily) It does not come from him getting rid of the “itch” that he experiences (it always comes back, even after killing), like AFO groomed him into believing. I saw someone add that in the tags, and I realized that I never fully explained my thoughts on it. LOL.))
Not to mention, Tomura was literally GROOMED by All For One (which is something that people just like to ignore for some reason…) to even have this desire to kill people in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And even then Tomura doesn’t have the desire to kill people in the way that AFO wants!
His want for destruction stems from his inherent empathy for others, and his inability to understand how people are able to ignore the suffering of others. Not what All For One has groomed him into believing. (That Tomura’s want for destruction is an impulse that’s something inherent to him.)
Tomura has continued to have empathy for others despite AFO’s grooming, and has showed genuine kindness to the league on many occasions…
All of this is such an important aspect of Tomura’s character and being able to actually understand him, and it’s so disheartening constantly seeing people completely overlook this part of him.

Dusknoir, realizing who hero is, absolutely terrified of touching them
Tumblr media
Also imagining if they did touch and hero had a dimensional scream about the events to come…would have been interesting as a potential conflict between hero and partner

The tragedy that is Arthur Morgan is something that keeps me up at night.
That man lived day to day thinking life was just a tally chart of his sins and that he was forever damned, to the point where he was silently suicidal.
He lived and died thinking that no matter what good he did, it would never make up for his existence - in the type of life he didn't get to choose.
And what's worse is that he still tried. He tried and gave absolutely everything to the people he cared about, to the people he loved, and he watched all of it crumble before him.
He was a dog that was tricked into thinking it was a wolf, a stag who was taught to be a moose, that died to unwavering loyalty.

Darcy Smiling BEFORE Pemberley is VITAL
At last it arrested her—and she beheld a striking resemblance of Mr. Darcy, with such a smile over the face, as she remembered to have sometimes seen, when he looked at her.
Mr. Darcy is smiling in his portrait
Elizabeth finally realizes that he's been smiling AT HER
THE WHOLE TIME
HE LOVED HER THAT WHOLE TIME
HE WASN'T STARING AT HER TO FIND SOME SORT OF FAULT AND LAUGH AT IT, HE WAS LOOKING AT HER WITH LOVE.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY GIVE US AN ADAPTATION WHERE DARCY SMILES AT HER AT NETHERFIELD SO ELIZABETH KNOWS WHAT HIS FREAKING SMILE LOOKS LIKE!!!
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

Just a thought but what would a Cat Walker but it’s Ladybug act or what facet of Marinette’s character will center on that?
I feel like Marinette has a healthy balance of herself as Ladybug and vice versa so I’m wondering just what facet of her character would bring life to create a Cat Walker version of a Ladybug hero.

Whenever I remember that Tenya almost went full vigilante mode for Tensei I want to scream so bad like it's not even funny.
Bnha somersaults its way into saying "maybe heroes are just good citizens with the power to do good things" and "maybe heroism is not in the big notorious acts but in being kind and fair in the day to day details" AND THAT'S ALL TENSEI.
AND THAT'S WHAT MOTIVATES TENYA TO GO FULL BLOODHOUND ON STAIN.
I'm not denying that the world needs the big ass heroism acts like defeating AFO or saving a city or all those flashy notorious feats. All Might is very needed, because there are threats that are too old and developed and have accumulated too much hatred and damage over the years. You cannot always prevent those things from happening and to believe so would be naive, right?
What I'm saying is that those big events are the lowest percentage. They are the consequences of a systematic failure.
Take two of the biggest evil plots in the manga: AFO planning to still OFA and Overhaul with his quirk-erasure bullets. Both plans depended on an abused child being used as objects, Eri because her quirk was the base of the bullet working and Tomura because he was just meant to be AFO's new body in the future. In both cases, AFO and Overhaul were cornered after losing the child they were using for their plots. In fact it was the kids resisting the abuse that contributed the most to their failure: Eri prevented Overhaul from hurting Deku and Tomura prevented AFO from escaping his decaying body.
In that sense, the little unknown pro-heroes taking care of their neighborhood's children do a lot to prevent cases like Tomura or Eri from happening. Hell, AFO and Overhaul were also kids who went the violent route to survive.
Ingenium's silent heroism is probably the best example of what a hero looks like. They don't seek fame or glory. They regard heroism as their duty, their responsibility. No matter how little the act is, it's still important to do it.
At this point, we must admit the Tenya's crisis over what happened to Tensei is not only about their bond as brothers. Yeah, that was Tenya's big bro, but it is no less than when Deku and Bakugo saw All Might fighting AFO for the last time— the last moments of their role models.
The Iida brothers' crisis was deep rooted in the main issues of the story, so I'm still baffled at how people just tend to ignore it.
Before Stain, the "League of Villains" was just a minor threat. Dabi was a nobody with no real crimes to his name. Toga was just a lost little girl trying to survive the streets. Spinner didn't even think about being a villain. Before Stain, things were bad, but no one really thought they could change the status quo, you know?
The USJ incident was not the big deal because 1) how was attacking kids the answer? and 2) going for All Might was expected, since he was almost invincible and the biggest hero in the world and blah blah blah.
When Stain started attacking minor pro-heroes...
Stain was the opposite of Tomura. He admired All Might and saved those kids, but went after the pro-heroes with less powerful quirks. He gave the population a sense of control. It's like he said "hey, you don't have to go after All Might to change the system and why would you? The real problem are the ones on the lowest part of the pro-hero chain".
Suddenly, they could go against pro-heroes and win. Divide and conquer. Suddenly, there was a ladder to climb. Suddenly, you could target not the institutions responsible for the rotten ideology of your society, but the people who enforced the ideology with their daily work.
Stain defended his posture by saying that those people didn't want to be real heroes. They just wanted the money, the fame, they were not really committed to their duty.
And then attacked Tensei, of all people.
If big crimes are built from little crimes that are accumulated over time, what would happen if you decided to eliminate the people taking care of the little crimes?
The crisis of belief in pro-heroes was triggered by Stain. When Stain pointed out at Ingenium (the one in the suit was Tensei) and accused him of false heroism, it's when shit started to go south. He created the idea that pro-heroes should be punished if they don't perform correctly and that they deserve to die if they don't have pure ideas of their job— or whatever.
Tensei being the victim is supposed to show how hypocritical Stain is. Tensei is probably one of the only pro-heroes that never did anything wrong in the manga and one of the best family men to be presented. A man who was loved by everyone for being good in every sense of the word.
Stain projected his own fantasies on Tensei in order to accomplish his witch hunt, not truly caring to figure out who the person was. He just attacked for the sake of attacking, which explains why he was so popular: anyone could do the same and project their issues on him, fighting different battles disguised as just one cause.
When Tenya went after him, it could only make sense. The little of the Iidas is too righteous and noble, quick to judge and act, prone to making mistakes and getting carried away by the looks of it all. So easily his justice turns into revenge and he falls into the trap Stain set. Who knows what a hero student killing Stain would have caused...
At this point it's obvious I'm just ranting for the sake of ranting but 😭😭😭 give the Iidas the respect they deserve please.

tbh I headcanon percy to eventually land on an environmental science major in college after a lot of experimenting around and not because of his dad but because of *grover* and his belief in finding pan, because of knowing how much the mortal and mythical world have been hurting the earth itself, and because if there's one thing that could convince percy jackson to study, it's justice. plus I think he and annabeth would totally geek out over sustainability as restorative and regenerative design. this is your "build something that lasts" couple. your "ur system is broken fix it rn" couple. if the mythical world EVER left them alone they would 100% be pursuing justice at any other stop they found themselves in anyway

Look, Seteth's brother's hand has been rempimped with cute stars and seashells to look like a festive weapon!
What are relics?
Who cares, they're just random weapons!
Honestly, this + the new harmonic duo makes me upset. They shat on Tellius and Fodlan in the same banner.
Beautiful.

omori spoilers//
something i love about omori is how it shows every character doing something bad or being an asshole at some point.
for instance, while playing faraway town (at least for me) it's apparent that both kel and aubrey were being kinda dicks at some point. aubrey bullied basil and was just kinda mean, and kel was also rude by barging in on the church service and refusing to understand aubrey.
basil, hero, and mari all did bad things too. basil covered up mari's death and lied to everyone about it, hero shut himself away and ended up snapping at kel. mari pushed sunny far too much because of her perfectionism.
i love this because it's something adamantly shown throughout the game, how people make mistakes and can be forgiven for it. as in, showing sunny that he's not the only one who's done something wrong, and that he can be forgiven too.

okay this has been going through my mind for days and I have to get my thoughts out before I explode
Disclaimer, this is not talking about a specific artist/person and would never condone or participate in anon hate or online bullying for any reason but especially this one.
I get why people are mad about Link being portrayed as this buff, hypermasculine, tall guy. I am too (again don’t fucking attack people over it though) and it seems like such an infuriating way to change the character just to fit into some ideal of hypermasculine attractiveness or to make a ship fall into a more hetero lense by making him a decent foot taller than whatever girl he’s being paired with.
The world of video games and action movies and every form of media ever is extremely saturated with male characters that are swole and manly and whatever other descriptors people are trying to push onto Link that don’t fit into his actual character. There are so many characters out there that already fit this male standard and having a clearly androgynous elf guy was like a breath of fresh air.
Link was literally designed to be a character whose lines on gender were blurred, ‘a girl with a masculine touch or a guy with a feminine touch’ so that anyone could project themselves onto him. His physical design in botw/totk was specifically made to be feminine enough to wear a certain outfit to pass as a woman (which includes a nearly mandatory cutscene where he puts on the clothes and blushes after being called pretty, like you have to be blind to think that its an experience that he doesn’t like at all) and in totk there are a bunch of outfits made for Link that are blatantly gnc, ones that are practically dresses, include nail polish and lipstick, you can even dye his hair bright and vivid colors and that’s half way to giving him new pronouns. The whole reason Linkle isn’t included in more mainline loz games was because her existence would force Link into a gender dichotomy, if there's a clearly female version of the main hero, that means the main hero has to be a man, and they would rather abandon a potential reoccurring character than make Link conform to a gender binary.
So pardon me when it feels disingenuous and even malicious for him to be morphed into these clear masculine ideals, where he towers over any female romantic partner (even when in canon he is regularly depicted as noticeably shorter than her) or even in m/m fanworks he’s really beefed up, perhaps to make the scene feel more gay or something.
Perhaps it’s because his more twink-y/ femboy body type is so heavily sexualized (though obviously when people are sculping abs on him it’s totally not because they’re horny about it) and that’s an issue in itself that bothers me. But it’s just so tiring to see one of the very few popular main characters who is short and feminine and androgynous be molded into just another bland muscle-headed action hero over and over and over again.
I’m not mad at the creators for portraying him differently than how I like him portrayed, I’m mad because we really do get so few characters like him in good popular media, and to be honest, I really like him the way that he is. I love that he’s tiny and has long hair and has the option to dress any way the player likes. It seems a little distasteful to make him taller than a female love interest just because that’s how straight couples have to be, there’s just never been a real straight couple where the guy is shorter than the girl, that’s just Impossible! (/s)

the most relatable part of the tlt musical is that when percy tries to say or imply anything positive there is a bunch of background vocals immediately pushing it down
like in the day i got expelled hes like "they never listen to me" like hey maybe im not the problem maybe the problem is the people around me treating me badly and then suddenly the background vocals are all like "dude???you got expelled????"
and in good kid when hes like "all i need is one chance to prove im good enough for someone" like i believe in my goodness i just need to prove it to people and suddenly the background vocals are reminding him "SIX SCHOOLS IN SIX YEARS!! SIX SCHOOLS IN SIX YEARS!!"

ASOIAF discourse would be a lot more fun if we all realized that every single person who has been put in a position of leadership/rulership fails in one way or another. Jon and Dany failing is not an indictment on their abilities to lead or rule. They’re kids, they still have shit to figure out. Given “what was Aragorn’s tax policy”, I doubt GRRM will write a story that will feature the appearance of a most perfect ruler ever who will be a total success instead Jon and Dany who were tOtAl FlOpS. Especially if this person has no previous experience that has been detailed within the text itself. That’s not only antithetical to the series, but also not how you write a narrative.
