There's something about the oddness of their interactions that make these two my absolute favorite duo, oh one of them beat the shit out of the other in their first meeting? some house fire involved? the way Ritsu doesn't question things twice when Shou gets him on his side, it's so insane in a way, insane in the "teenager with a life worth of trauma baggage" way, and I'm living for it. They just clicked, understood each other, made such a great team and what they've achieved is so impressive considering how young they are, how difficult it all was.

Shou is just so relieved to not only have someone he could connect with- but also rely upon? It's always been so rare in his world to meet someone who would be willing to have his back and carry the weight with him, and it's especially different from those who were simply ordered to. Ritsu believed in Shou wholeheartedly, and that meant the world to him, it meant so much i cant express this ENOUGH. That's his friend that's HIS PERSON and Shou is so happy to have met him???? Ritsu is such an intelligent and resourceful boy, he is also so loyal and sincere towards those he cares about, and Shou actually admires him a lot for these things, he takes pride in calling Ritsu his friend!

I believe they're both not so good at this whole friendship thing, with Ritsu being his reserved self and Shou finally having time for friends in his life, but they're trying and it's so nice and heartwarming to see how they help each heal and truly live, they deserve to have fun and be silly and get free from all the shakles of fear and pain that came with psychic powers being in their lives.

Hello and good morning! Or afternoon, I'm not sure. I'm drafting this answer over a late breakfast because I got a precious day of sleeping-in and I'm still thinking deeply about it.

Firstly: I want to hug you so tight (if you were down) because this is wildly sweet and flattering, thank you so so much for reaching out at all even just about the works, but the wishes that things smooth out are highly appreciated ;-; We're looking… solid? Right now? But there's still so much up in the air and hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I won't bore you with it, it's not the reason I'm drafting this out.

ABOUT RECURSIVE WORKS [very long, read under the cut, tl:dr summary at the end]:

I would love it. I would genuinely, honestly love it, with the caveats that you laid out that proper credit would be given (thank you so much you lovely beautiful soul), that it be clarified wherever it is shared that it's based on characters/settings/storylines of the current works, but truly importantly that it would clarify that the works are actively still being written at this time.

That's my biggest hesitation, if I'm being honest. The stories are both at this time unfinished (they are all unfinished, I am a creature with heavy need to process things through writing and, quelle surprise, I am never truly finished processing anything, new shit just needs to get processed, wheeeee) and being that they're unfinished, there's a chance that any recursive work could hit on a scene/plotpoint/moment that I've already got plotted out for the future. I'm not Neil Gaiman or anything, I'm not planning to make money off of this work, so it's not my concern that you or anyone else is gonna turn around and try to sue me for stealing something or whatever-- that's not the problem. I just don't want you or anyone to feel at that point that the effort you put into something was then copied and put in the main work or something.

It's an odd situation. The odds of it actually BEING a problem I know are astronomically low, but I didn't get to where I am today without chronically overthinking everything.

I love that you have a desire to create, and I do not know who you are-- I don't know if you already have projects and characters of your own and just want to branch out with something familiar-but-new, but I want to encourage you to use this energy and focus for writing all the same. If you can put it into your own works, hell yeah, but also: yes I would be flattered if you used my dorks and their silly little worlds. It's just the concern where I'm not finished with the stories yet. I just am, again, overthinking and overworrying, likely, but if I could stop doing those things then life would presumably be easier.

I would be absolutely down for like, experimental works I believe is the best term for what I'm looking for. Characters and stories based off of my works that are wholly new. Want to write a refracted AU about Melinda and Hank in Space? Fuck yeah, yes. Though I mentioned this to Zip and they immediately told me No, We're Doing That One and we laughed about it for a hot minute, so maybe not exactly those names hahaha

I guess another question here is, if you were to put in the effort and the focus and the pride of writing something based on my characters, of a scene you had in your head, and got through the beauty and pain of creation to get it down and then put it out there, how would you feel if something similar then happened in the main work? Not the same, not based on what you did, but that similarity still there and still noticeable at least to you. Like if someone had written (before I had posted them) something similar to Melanie being involved in a Naval battle, even though I have the receipts that that arc was written in November of 2022 and only finished posting in September 2023, I don't know how they would feel to still see that like, a similar idea had been there.

On one hand, personally, I love being in the G/t community and reading other people's works when I have the spoons and focus and time to do it, because I love that something as simple as "small person falls and big person catches them" permeates the ideas so often, and what that can mean to dozens of different creators. Refracting the same light through a diamond and watching the facets all scatter it differently, etc etc. It's beautiful. It makes me happy. But that's a personal thought, and I know how deep and personal writing can be. I know how much the process of creation can mean to the individual. I don't want you to go through that, to write something beautiful even if just for yourself, and then think in some possibility later that because I did something similar I was trying to do it 'better' or whatever. It's not the case, it's never the case.

So, after chatting about this with people I love in this community (I love you Zip and Kelly <3), I think the solution is: If you want to chat with me about the like, basic bare-bones of the ideas you might have just to give me a heads up, and I can let you know if it's something that'll be in the main works soon and if I'd rather you wait on something, or if I'd go 'oh fuck yeah, go ham', I would adore to chatter away with you about it all regardless. I'd love to chatter with you about writing in general! My characters, your characters, whatever. I'm down. Please feel free to hit me up and I'll get back to you whenever I can <3

When it comes to recursive works I'm interested and open to them provided they're not something major/heavy I'm planning to tackle too soon in the future canon, as the works are still being written and posted. I am always down to receive DMs about writing, and would prefer to get messages about the recursive fic ideas (as vague as you'd like them to be!) just so I can give a quick yes/no on if it's something I'd rather you wait on until I can get it out myself, or whathaveyou. I don't see this being a huge problem, and if you're good for chatting then I'm positive we'll have a good time with this <3

Writing recursive fics for my existing, in-progress works means agreeing to the caveats that credit be given to me and the existing works, and clarifying when posting that the fic is not canon and the works they're referencing/possibly based on are still in progress/being written. It also means accepting that there is a chance that things tackled in your fics may be similar to things that have not yet been posted for said works.

When it comes to experimental fiction based on my characters, settings, or plot: hell yeah go full 50 Shades if you want to. File the serial numbers off of it and/or write something New Enough. It's what I did to Jonathan Swift, please feel free to do it to me hahaha.

Cleo disliked the Water Witch.

The way she twisted her words until they had a totally different meaning, the way she thought herself as so much better than all the other witches, the way she dragged everyone under her spell with promises and lies.

Cleo didn’t see the point in lying. In her years of being a witch—she’d long lost count—she’d never known one to stay hidden. They were always revealed for what they were, ugly and hurtful and so much worse than they had begun.

The Water Witch was like that. Sweet in appearance but nasty in nature. Like a clear pool full of sickness and disease. It looks perfect and tastes syrupy sweet, but turns bitter in your throat and spreads plague through your city.

The Water Witch seemed to have fun poisoning others. Drawing them in on her words and lies, twisting the truth until it seemed false, making alliances and already planning to break them. So many were under her spell—so many thought she was exactly as she seemed—so many were foolish.

But Cleo was not. Cleo, in her lifetimes and lifetimes of experience, knew better.

She knew what the Water Witch—what Prismarina was.

“Water Witch. Hello. What brings you here?” Cleo’s tone was ice cold and suspicious. She didn’t know why the Water Wi—why Prismarina was here, and she didn’t trust it.

“I thought I’d offer you one of those spell tomes! I found one that fit you, and I thought you’d like it as a gift,” Prismarina explained with her sickeningly sweet tone, the one that sounded so deceitful it almost made Cleo throw up.

“Oh! Fantastic, lovely. That’s… helpful. I appreciate it. Let me get something to trade for it,” Cleo agreed loftily, trying hard to keep her voice neutral. She didn’t trust Pris, but it wasn’t wise to antagonize her.

“Oh, you don’t need to pay for it! It’s just a friendly gesture, one witch to another.” Pris used her extra-sweet and extra-innocent voice, the one that said I’m just a small little witch! You can trust me. I will won’t stab you in the back!

Cleo didn’t trust it one bit.

“No, I insist.” Cleo’s tone was sharp, leaving no room for argument. She didn’t trust the Water Witch to not come back and use the gift as a receipt to get something out of her—something to give her the higher ground. She didn’t trust the Water Witch to do something out of the goodness of her heart—she knew that the Water Witch could be cruel; she could be more bitter than she could be sweet.

A flash caught her eye, and she was the Water Witch’s expression twist into an angry snarl, something furious and ghastly and not quite right. Something totally different than the front she usually used.

She knew. And the Water Witch knew she knew.

She knew. And Pris knew she knew.

And Cleo wasn’t sure if they were the same, or if they were different, or if she cared, or why she cared.

It was dangerous, it was. They say time flows like a river—fast and deadly and disorienting. Cleo knew she was. Cleo also knew that Pris—the Water Witch—she—was the same. But it drew her in anyway, the sweet words alluring despite being false, and the hand soft despite ready to stab her in the back.

If she had to be honest, that made it more tempting.

The Water Witch showed up more often, now. She never left without a threat, of course, but Cleo could see her in the corner of her vision, watching her. Cleo wondered if she thought of Cleo the same way Cleo thought of her.

Cleo liked the Water Witch. She was intriguing. Perhaps one day this aspect would make her dislike the Water Witch, but for now, it was just that.

It's okay and totally normal to be frustrated but try not to direct that at yourself! Easier said than done I know, but don't give up! Sometimes it takes me a whole page of drawings or dozens of revisions to get the facial expression I want. Here's a few ways I've personally approached it:

I posted this a while back but these excerpts from "Making Comics" by Scott McCloud really help me with facial expression exercises! Combining different emotions to convey someone's thoughts is really fun! And reference everything you can too- If there's a cool clip of a fight scene you really like, try drawing those characters' expressions!

And if all else fails, sometimes I find myself making the face that I'm trying to draw so I keep a mirror at my art desk to reference my eyebrows and mouth positions and stuff hahaha! It gets to the point that when I'm drawing a character that's upset or crying I'll sometimes start accidentally tearing up with them. It's an awkward conversation to have when my coworkers walk in on me during my lunch break and get concerned, and I have to be like "No sorry, I'm just feeling this fictional penguin drawing's emotions with him."

But yes!! I am not a professional, but I am a big advocate for having fun when telling stories. Enjoy and create the story that only you can tell because you are unique and great!!

Facing Twisted Wonderland Chapter 7 - Part 6 (scared)

Okay, I've successfully avoided spoilers for this newest release and waiting to play it. Get kinda scared in posting stuff, but for this newest part, I want to throw my thoughts and feelings out into the void. I'll be playing and reading a translation of the story and posting my thoughts throughout the story. Once it's done, I'll finish up with some predictions and just post.

As for my predictions, I think this is the last part that we'll be spending in Lilia's dreams. Maybe we'll get to see Maleficia? Will Silver ever tell Malleus that he is the son of the man who slayed his mother? Where is Levan? Are the Crowley = Levaan theories true? If so, how has Lilia not recognized one of his most precious people from Briar Valley? Is Lilia really going to the Land of the Red Dragon to try to find clues of Levaan? Is Meleanor really dead? Will we get to see even a glimpse of anyone else's dreams? How is Ortho doing on his mission? And will we see Idia snap out of his dream? Where is Meleanor's Princess Glow now? That seemed like a last minute macguffin that was thrown in hasn't been mentioned much since we were going through Silver and Sebek's feelings train.

I don't think the majority of my questions will be answered in this part or chapter, but I just wanted to write it down and see if my perspective will change based on the contents of this part.

Anyway, enough rambling and spiraling, time to begin!

AHHH, Sebek wasn't planning on showcasing his unique magic until he had perfected it, but, of course, Silver was in danger and desperately needed help. UGHHHH they're bond!!!!!

Oh???? They're finally adressing why Lilia's dream has been full of pain when Malleus should be giving everyone a happy dream? Ok, so Sebek proposes that maybe Malleus can't monitor Lilia's dream. The only reason I can think of is that he doesn't even truly EXIST in this time so he can't summon a Malleus to keep watch there? Or there could be some sort of lock that Malleus can't go past to look into Lilia's dreams/memories? IDK

Hmm, when he told us that he visited the City of Flowers in the Glorious Masquerade, he looked so cheerful and I totally felt that he had fond memories of the place. He's very good at hiding his past with a smile, making us not worry about him since he's just silly bat dad. Oh Lilia...

Also visiting the Scalding Sands. When talking to Tamago-sama, he started using his happy voice from the present, so I'm guessing he started acting positive and speaking in that cheerful manner due to counting stories to Malleus?

So first of all Mumbo's introduction is Killer. I love long haired mumbo very much. One of my weaknesses is long hair. Anyway, the fact that he's chronically late makes me DLNGKDFSGAKF ITS SO FUNNY AND IN CHARACTER!!!! And it parallels well later with the fact that he doesn't recognize Grian and his overcompensation at trying to catch him because of that fact is the reason Grian gets away mmm.

AND THE CREW OH I HAVE MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT THEM LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT THE LITTLE FAMILY THEY'VE MADE UP!!! LOOK AT HOW WELL THEY WORK TOGETHER!!!! ITS EVERYTHING TO MEEEEEEEEEE. The fact that its Ren, Tango, Iskall, and Impulse who are drunk is so funny to me. Cleo being the one to reel them in. Pearl falling asleep I am dkdflhsgdsaf. Feeling many emotions already.

The way you have them banter off each other is great too. I told you this when I read it but this gives me like, Atlantis/Treasure Planet vibes. It's more lighthearted in tone than Goodcrimes and Songbird for sure, not to say thats a bad thing of course. I think it plays really well into the aloof nature of Grian, where he's just out to have a good time until he has to get serious, and even then its clear hes sort of 'playing with his food' - cocky but well executed. I'm absolutely sure that won't come back to bite him in the ass ;)

The way he almost flirted with Mumbo during their first meeting is so funny. The fact that everyone darted out of there like chickens with their heads cut off. REN TAKING THE DRINKS!!!! And I am EYEING the fact that Grian was looking for enhancements on the weapons AND that his sword had one. I mean, it makes sense, this is an au that features THE Architects after all, but I am vibrating under my skin.

'captain's orders' its so in character for Grian to use his power like that I love it so much I'm. Mm mm mm. Look at him. He fits the pirate captain persona so well. Gnawing at the bars of my enclosure. And once again we come back to cocky and confident and reliant on his crew its EVERYTHING to me. EVERYTHING. I can't wait for it to bite him in the ass.

I remember having a lot of trouble figuring out how to introduce mumbo in the au and I quite enjoy what I settled on :D long haired mumbo was mojo's idea and you Know I had to follow GFJHFH. we once again have a special flavor of mumbo in which he's got cool abilities but he's Still a wet rag of a man and I cannot wait to show more of him

I LOVE THE CREW SO MUCH!!!!! I HOLD THEM ALL SO CLOSELY!!!!! they've been together for like. at least three years before the start of the canon storyline. so you Know they've got really good chemistry and fall back on one another so easily that it's like second nature. I loved writing their banter so much!!! it comes so easily and it absolutely brings such a more lighthearted feel to the story than goodcrimes or songbird and I love how fresh it feels.

AND GRIAN.... GOD I LOVE HIM!!! grian is so cocky, so very aloof. he's here for a good time but the minute things go wrong he's prioritizing the safety of his crew and he's putting on his captain's hat.

GRIAN AND MUMBO'S INTERACTION WAS SO FUN -- because like, I sat down to write it and was like "right, I need their first meeting to be flirty but also impactful, mostly on mumbo." and that's what was produced. I love it. and then it ALL goes to shit :D and grian's grabbing their drinks, and GOD REN'S WHOLE BIT WITH RUNNING WITH THE DRINKS... it's such a funny mental image, him holding four mugs of rum and running on top of tables to get back to the ship.

and hehehe, getting into the actual world they all live in is gonna be a lot of fun. because we've got that lovely steampunk influence and you Know my brain is doing a lot of brrrrr'ing. also I Need you to know that I started grinning so big upon writing grian electrocuting someone with his sword.

but he DOES!!! he does fit the vibes of pirate captain so well!!!! and I cannot wait to play around with it more. there's a lot of ideas rattling around in my brain with it <3

today.... i am thinking about....

bruce taking the rats from eddies apartment home bc theres no one to take care of them w eddie in arkham and he looks up absolute mountains of rat care info and gets them an absolutely MASSIVE enclosure, fucking floor to ceiling, 5-6 levels, different stairs and platforms etc to get to each level, different chew toys on every level, and theyre fat and happy and he sometimes w take one out to sit on his shoulder and nibble at his hair when he needs a Rubber Duck for a case

and maybe also he goes to visit eddie in arkham once in a while and updates him abt how the rats r doing and its just that little connection between them like hes given the rats a better life as a proxy for edward and

anyway. bruces new pet rats.

Okay but in all seriousness, I've got a bit of a problem.

One thing about me is I adore writing. I'm not particularly good at it or nothing, but I love how freeing it feels to write, both fiction and non-fiction (I love writing essays in school too (in most cases), especially in english class.). In my school there're various clubs/organizations (pretty sure those words can't be used interchangeabley but whatevs) and I honestly feel tempted to join one. It's not that I'm into teamwork (quite the opposite), it's just that I've fellt a certain pull for a while, telling me I should just try it.

Now here comes the problem: I'm terrified of being around unknown persons. I get very emotional when I'm put in a foreign situation with folks that are outside my friend circle. I'm scared of being judged for being 'different' or for being weak or something silly like that. For the longest time I've had this fear that everyone's always bothered by my existance or just simply finds me strange. This is because people tend to look right past me and choose to not interact with me. Though when we have to talk to eachother, be it for a reason like a presentation or something of that sort, we get along just fine, cause I'm just a dude. I am a bit 'different' I suppose, but not many of my traits are ones that they don't themselves posess. I was born a chick and have short hair, noone else in my year does and I'm sort of ambiguous with my gender as well. I have ADHD, okay, loads of people do, nothing strange. I'm shy. That's it. That's all that makes me different from them. somehow I can't hang out with people in crowded spaces. I can't go to markets or the grocery by myself and find it incredibly hard to push myself to go, even with someone accompanying me. I could cry at the thought. I live in a capital city which doesn't make things easier (so much going on all the time). In an attempt to avoid interaction with people in my school (from my fear of people thinking I'm odd) I come off as closed-off and I'm 99.9% sure people think I'm just like that, when really, I'm terrified. That's it. I actually love being acknowledged because it affirms the fact that people know I exist (as mentioned previously, people look right past me, as if I were a ghost). Though I only liked being acknowledged in such a way in school or in closed off buildings, anywhere else is a no-go. Anyway, I was just giving a bit of context to why this is such a difficult thing for me to navigate.

I'd LOVE to join either of the clubs that make the papers, but I'm super scared and far too shy. Not to mention, there's some folks in there that I don't want to have to see more than I need to. I don't have much time at all left in highschool (a terrifying thought, if only I could be young forever, yet next year I already have to decide what genre of career I'm aiming for, it's the Endspurt for me), which makes me more desperate to join such an organization before it's too late.

I hate being shy and insecure. Still I'm sure that one day I'll be at a point where I can problemlessly look into a mirror, or start a conversation with people. Someday.
