Las primeras imagenes son de las estatuas en tamaño real de Diego Rivera y Frida Kalho, obra de Gabriel Ponzanelli... Pero no todo es color de rosas. Imagine yourself on the way to La Esperanza, one of the most influential, Mexican-owned establishments in the district’s history. While we’re big fans of 19th century Mexican Californian history around here, today we travel to the twentieth century to bring you something a little more appetizing (literally!). ⁠ ⁠ Ezequiel Moreno trained as a baker in his hometown of Zacatecas, Mexico. In 1916, he and his wife, Guadalupe de la Torre, settled in East Los Angeles. Only two years later, Moreno purchased three horse-drawn carts to sell Mexican bread in Maravilla, Belvedere, and Boyle Heights, according to historian William David Estrada. The business grew quickly, and by the 1920s, Moreno had carts delivering bread throughout Los Angeles County. ⁠ ⁠ Eventually, Moreno opened five restaurant-bakeries. He named them all La Esperanza, but the primary location was found at 507 North Main Street. La Esperanza was popular with everyone in the Plaza throughout its run. Mexican immigrants who settled in LA as a result of the Revolution especially appreciated the bakery, including former President Plutarco Elias Calles!⁠ ⁠ La Esperanza was successful for several decades, and didn’t close down until the 1960s. Coyoacán es uno de los barrios más conocidos de la CDMX por su peso histórico, político y artístico. En el año 1521 fue testigo de la llegada de los españoles y tras la caída de Tenochtitlan, Hernán Cortes construyó su casa en Coyoacán, siendo la primera sede del gobierno de la Nueva España. En imágenes verán los Arcos atriales de Coyoacán (que ya hablé en la publicación anterior) y la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción | Iglesia de tipo barroco y estilo plateresco construida por pedido de Hernán Cortez sobre lo que era un centro ceremonial prehispánico tolteca. Aquí se celebró la primera misa de la región y la leyenda cuenta que fue un regalo de Cortes a La Malinche.
