A David Lee Roth Fanfiction
To love is nothing...
To be loved is something..
To love and be loved in return is everything..

September 1982
“I’m ready to quit this lame-ass job.” My best friend, Holly said as she flung her wet rag to the wall in the kitchen, an exasperated sigh leaving her lips as she made her way to the lockers in the back. She shuffled through her bag grabbing her pack of cigarettes. “I’m taking a smoke, are you on break yet?”
I diverted my eyes from my frazzled friend to the clock and nodded my head. “Just about, I’m sure he’ll spare me a few minutes.”
Holly laughed, “Don’t tell him, he might figure something out for himself.” She referred to our boss and manager at the diner we worked at. He was a bit of a heavier set man, with glasses way too big for his face, and a mind that suited his physical appearance. Let’s just say he was lacking in the common sense department.
I just laughed and shook my head, as I grabbed a glass of water from the sink, and followed my friend out to the back of the diner. It was dimly lit, only a singular bulb hung outside, making most of the front visible, but if you tried to look farther out into the bushes you couldn’t see a thing.
I heard the click of the lighter and watched a flame flicker from the corner of my eye as I turned my head. Holly now had a cigarette hanging loosely from her lips as she lit it, taking a long drag before leaning against the wall breathing out a funnel of smoke. “I don’t think at 23 we should be feeling as if we’re 50 and have nothing to lose anymore.”
I leaned against the wall too and looked at her solemnly. “Then why don’t we quit?” I asked her.
She finally looked at me with a grimace and shook her head. “Where would we go? What else is there for us? Or excuse me- what else is there for me? You’ve got that bachelor’s degree in art and design…”
I gave her a pointed look. “A degree I was foolish to get, I have nowhere to apply myself!” Raising my hands in the air. “I thought moving here would do something.” I watched as she grabbed a comb from the back pocket of her jeans, and started pulling at the tops of her hair and fluffing the bits at the end.
“Rosie, I think we both knew staying in Arizona, was not going to be a wise career choice,” she said as she laughed, taking another puff of her cigarette, gently tapping the ash away.
“That’s not true, they have wonderful historical art of civilizations that lived-”
“Rose, we’ve got deserts and old Hollywood cowboys, that art excuse is irrelevant,” Holly replied as she groaned, rubbing her temples. “You need to go where everyone goes.”
“Where’s that?” I asked accusingly. I was partially hurt by her outwardness about my decision to stay in my hometown, but I knew it was all in-kind spirit.
“Where do you think? California! The Mamas and the Papas sang about that damn state for a reason.” Holly spoke.
“California? I don’t know Hol… If everyone goes there, then why should I go? There are so many talented people there.”
“Because… you’re a talented babe! Everyone who’s scrapping the bottom in Hollywood and the sunset strip, ain’t got shit on you girl. You’re an actual artist, and you’re classy. Plus you’re smoking hot. And I’d say that’s a winning combo right there.” She said as she looked at me with a grin, coming off the wall. She stuck her cigarette into her lips as she grabbed her comb and start fixing my hair. “Plus, anybody would kill for your hair. You effortlessly have hair that every flat, spaghetti-stranded girls dream of!”
I smiled at her, beginning to giggle before I heard the bang of the door as it opened, and begrudgingly, our boss with his thick neck and wobbly feet, stumble towards the open air. He sniffed the air as if he was a pesty rodent, before turning his head and fixing his beady eyes at us.
“GIRLS! I’ve got a crowd coming in! Get off your ass! I don’t pay you lowly bitches for nothing!” He said as he muttered shrinking his eyes onto Holly who was still smoking.
Holly narrowed her eyes dropping her cigarette down to the floor as she began to speak, but I grabbed her hand to stop her. “We’ll be right in, come on Holly.”
He nodded his head before he waddled back inside, slamming the door shut.
I gave her a look and told her not to say a word as we both made our way back inside.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
“Are you sure you’ve got it Hol’?” I asked as we finally finished our shift at the diner, we had begun climbing down the steps toward the street when Holly remembered we had to lock up.
“I’ve got it, I have to put this into muscle memory anyways, after all my friends going to be a Hollywood sensation and I’ll be working till I’m 80.” She said as she snorted in amusement as she fumbled slightly with the keys before locking the door with a resounding click.
I rolled my eyes as she made her way to my side, shouldering her to stop her sarcastic comments. “That’s not true, after all, doesn’t the best friend always get the share of fame in the movies?”
Holly laughed as she wrapped her arm around my shoulder, “Not nearly enough as the protagonist, I think it’s better off if we sign a contract that I get 30%”
I gawked playfully. “30%! No way in hell!”
“Hey, it’s the best friend discount! I’ll split even with a solid 40% if you want.” She looked at me with a toothy grin, as I punched her arm. She pouted petting her shoulder in mock hurt. “Hey, you can’t do that remember? I bruise like a peach, my landlord will think I’m abused and alert the authorities.”
I laughed as we walked over to her car. I grabbed the door before stepping inside to the familiar smell of tobacco and lavender, “We’ll tell them your famous best friend will cover the costs.”
She buckled her seatbelt looking up to give me an approving look before laughing. “Now you’re starting to act like it. I’m proud.”
I rolled my eyes. “Holly, I was kidding. I just don’t know if I’m cut out for that kind of thing.”
Holly put the car in gear as we started heading down the road to my apartment, “Honestly Rose, do you want to spend the rest of your life here busing tables, bending over backward for people who don’t deserve it and wasting hard-earned time not doing what you love?”
I grew silent at what she had said. Honestly, I had no words, because I knew she was right. I wanted to make art through fashion, yet I lived in Arizona where statements of fashion have not been recommended since the turn of the century. Plus I had no other willingness for anything else, and I knew she was right; I had the tendency to be a bit of a pushover.
But I was working on it.
“Holly, it’s not that I don’t want to take that leap. I’m just-“
“Scared?” She replied as she turned the car onto the street where I lived, finally looking me in the eye with a face of concern. “The only thing we regret is the chances we didn’t take.”
She pulled into my apartment plaza, as she stopped near the entrance of the stairs, putting the car into park. She tapped her chipped fingernails on the steering wheel before she looked at me with a sigh. “Rose, I love you.. you know that right?”
I smiled as I nodded. I unbuckled my seatbelt, as I turned to face her, grabbing her hand in an attempt at comforting her.
She gave me a small smile as she played with my hands gently, smoothing each finger over one by one. “I was meaning to tell you this, but I just didn’t have the time..”
I gave her a confused look, and she sighed before releasing my hands and directing her eyes back to the front.
“Remember that time we helped that catering guy with the food at my cousin Vinny’s?”
I tilted my head in confusion before recognition grazed my face as I laughed in amusement. I distinctly remembered the summer we graduated we carried trays of wonderful, hot Italian food to tables, during a 100-degree dry spell. “Yeah, why?”
“Well, the catering guy happens to know a guy who lives in California. They’re close and well… Vinny is close to everybody so he’s gotten to know the guy and all.. well apparently he’s this designer in Pasadena or some shit. Anyways.. he’s looking for somebody to help him..”
It suddenly dawned on me what she was trying to say. “You mean..?”
She whipped her head toward mine as she looked at me with a bright smile, “Remember what I said about getting your ass out of this dry place?”
I laughed as I put a hand to my mouth, I was speechless. “I- Holly.. this is… How can I do this? What will I do? Where will I stay-“
“Rosie, the guys’ got it all covered. I’ll just tell him you’re interested and you can talk to him.. I’ll give you his number. But this is it, Rosie. This is the higher heavens calling out to you. It’s time you win.”
I gave her an anxious look, my mouth frozen in place, before spacing out the window. I had only one question left. “What does the guy design?”
“Outfits.”
I gave her a confused look, “For who?”
I watched as a wide smile appeared on Holly’s face before she bit her lip slightly.
“Rockstars.”

Outlaw Woman Ch2
Rated M - this is a serious rating y’all. There’s derogatory terms and sex and violence. The MC world is not a soft place but I won’t water it down.
Lexi is constantly finding herself in the middle- She belongs with the SOA, family is everything, but finding her role within that family is hard. She has to find a balance and a place before she just teeters over the edge and gets lost in the madness. Love, Lust, Violence, and Hilarity.
Jax x OC x Happy - David Hale x OC
Tumblr media
Hey guys! Lets act like we’ve done this before ok? No copying my work- I don’t own SOA etc etc. I LOVE Lexi. I put a lot of myself in her and I would adore your feedback. Check out my Master List Here.
Happy locked eyes with Lexi as he slid his calloused, masculine, strong right hand under her left knee. Lexi couldn't help the sudden intake of breath, her lips parting ever so slightly. The room suddenly felt way too small. No man had ever made her nervous like Happy did. She had no idea what to do with that. It had been years since their one night. One night of mindless pleasure. No names had been exchanged. No club affiliation ever discussed. That night had gone completely unacknowledged even after they realized. Verbally at least. It was for the better.
Thank God he wasn't around more because as is, these moments are getting far too frequent. As his hand slid slowly but with purpose down her calf lifting her ankle onto his jean clad knee she held her breath. He lifted it just off his knee sliding the ice pack under to cool it from behind where it looked to be the most bruised. "Hand me that gauze." His voice was slightly deeper than normal- less raspy. She nodded dumbly and then, and then the most embarrassing thing ever, she let out a loud hiccup that was so violent it actually caused her to bounce slightly off the bar.
Lexi was mortified; she couldn't look up at him. She hadn't even had warning enough to cover her mouth. Her face immediately began to heat up and she handed him the gauze as quickly as she could before taking a long pull from the bottle of Jack at her side tossing the lid across the room. This day had been exhausting- she had every intention of making it all go away by drinking as much of this bottle as she could. 'At least the hiccup had killed that moment before anyone could walk in on that super sexy eye contact,' she thought.
Tumblr media
Her leg was so smooth and warm from the sun. Happy's mind went blank when she bounced- he'd been captivated by the jiggle of her DDs. Really, he had to get ahold of himself. If Tig kept catching him staring like this- it'd be his nuts. Especially now that she had an old man. His eyes wandered over a fresh piece of ink on her calf. She was lucky her boots had protected it. A beautiful reaper curved along her calf. The style very reminiscent of the one painted on the door- this one held more color. It was centered in a golden frame with the shadows of crows dancing behind its head and in its extended palm instead of the traditional anarchy sign it held a glowing sacred heart. He had to rein this shit in. Happy didn't like being out of control of anything- with Lexi he felt he was out of control of EVERYTHING. From the moment he’d arrived in Charming five years ago only to learn that sweet wild delicious piece of ass he’d fucked on the road was actually Tig’s sister, he’d been fighting to get a solid grip on things. She never followed direction, she was always putting herself in bad situations, she was ever chasing adventure and danger. That he was attached to her in the slightest was dangerous. EVERTHING about Lexi was dangerous for him.
"So what was all of that about?" he distracted as he began to gingerly wipe the blood off of her leg, putting slight pressure on the scrapes to stop the bleeding. "Fucking idiot probably should have done this first," he muttered. Lexi laughed, "yeah well you know my brother- more bullets then brain." Hap smirked nodding his head and continuing to work on her- long golden soft warm- leg. "That stick in Tara's ass has been super-sized lately. It's starting to affect the functionality of her brain." Hap glanced up at her, "but why? Why you?" Lexi scoffed taking another pull off her bottle, "I honestly don't know where this started. She's always hated me, but since she came back- she wants me dead." She took another pull, "Jax definitely isn't helping things. This reminds me I have to find a new place to hide my key." "Wasn't your old man mad when he showed up like that?" Lexi almost shot whiskey out her nose- which burns for a very long time if you've never done it. "What old man? What have you been smoking Hap and can I have some?" Hap reached into his pocket with his left hand using his right to apply light pressure. He fished out a joint and handed it over and she giggled in delight.
After a deep inhale, holding the smoke in her lungs, "What're you talking about Hap?" her accent continued to thicken with each vice she partook in. He gently tapped her tattoo and then ran a finger firmly down one side of the frame. "OH!" She was becoming more animated; her hands were now flying as she was speaking to him causing some of the booze to slosh out. "No, I got that just for me. It's not a crow. I got shot six months ago, Clay and Gem and Tig and the boys all said I earned my own reaper. I had to make it a little more girly though. I'm just not the kind of girl to rock anything overly masculine." Happy's brain had stopped on the shot part, "see this is what I'm talking about! How the hell did you get shot?" Lexi's eyebrows furrowed as she leaned forward, "what you're talking about?" He shook his head, "How the hell did you get shot?" She leaned back eyeing him suspiciously but in her buzzed state quickly let it go shrugging and smiling, "drive by." She unbuttoned the top button on her blouse allowing her to shift the collar so he could see the vibrant pink shiny new flesh where she had taken the bullet. And also a good flash of skin and pink lace. Happy shook his head. Focus. He took the bottle from her taking a long pull only to realize she’d already knocked back more than half of it. Well that wasn’t good.
Focus. He hadn't heard of a drive by. "Drive by where?" "Oakland." "What the fuck were you doing in Oakland?" "I had a meeting with a gallery in Oakland. I sold three paintings- Jax took me to a bar after to celebrate." "What the fuck?"
Jax should know better than that.
He had put Lexi in danger.
He had started this thing with Tara too.
Lexi was the artist of the door and the tattoo. Well that made her hotter. Fuck.
Happy filed it away at the look of confusion on Lexi's face. Her blue eyes were sharp, even in her inebriated state. He schooled his features trying to look casual. He'd have to ask around about this when she wasn't around. Something about all of this didn't seem right. What the hell was Jax thinking- or better yet what was Jax thinking with?
Before he could even process all of this new information two things happened: One, Tig, the Prospect and Chibs came laughing and rough housing out of the dorms; two, the front door to the club house was thrown open with a loud BANG. Gemma cut a formidable figure in her bitch heels; large black hobo bag slung over her shoulder. "Little girl, you have a lot of explaining to do!" Lexi was immediately off the bar forgetting her swollen foot and leaving the half smoked joint in an ash tray. The pain immediately reminded her why she’d been smoking it in the first place and she reached out gripping Happy's shoulder for support. He stood and maneuvered her to his stool. The way the two moved with each other was so natural- the all-seeing mother bear quirked an eyebrow, not missing a thing. Happy pulled up a second bar stool and lifter her foot; replacing the ice pack, only when she was situated did he step away. Then again Alexia is family and Happy was notoriously protective of SOA family- especially the women. Though, no one would ever label him a nurturer. Gemma filed this new observation away for a later date.
"You fucking broke the doc's nose! You better have a damn good reason!" Gemma scolded charging toward her beloved pseudo daughter. "Gemma you know me better than that! The bitch started something she didn't have the ass to back up." "Why the fuck would she do that Lex? Jax was at your house last night! That's why!" Happy’s shoulders tensed and he leaned back against the bar staring at the juke box intently. Lex rolled her eyes, "that's an issue you should take up with your son." Gemma threw her purse on the counter, "I would if I could but he's too busy talking Tara down." Lexi threw her hands up, "this is nuts! Why do I have to defend myself when I was just defending myself!" "Lex, you know I’ve always thought you were better for Jax then that little tart, but when you sleep with another woman's old man she has every right to give you hell. You screwed up you should take it!" Lexi, now seeing red, threw that mother fucking bottle of booze against the wall behind Gemma who covered her head and stared at her pseudo daughter in shock. "I didn't do shit!" The entire club was silent in the wake of the bottles shatter.
Tig came up behind Lex quietly, putting an affectionate and comforting hand on her shoulder. Her chest was heaving from screaming and a tear of rage sank down her cheek. Lexi was not an angry girl but she had a temper that she struggled with at times- one that had been passed down to both of his children by Dan Trager. Chibs turned to the Prospect, "go get me medics bag." Half Sack nodded and slipped out of the room silently, relieved to be anywhere but here. "You know what Gem?" came a low soft lilting Texas accent, "If I had slept with Jax, yes, Tara would have every right. I have never slept with Jax. I don't intend to sleep with Jax. I. Don't. Want. Him." She took another long deep breath and the queen opened her mouth as if to say something but quickly shut it. "Jax," Lexi was disgusted, "broke into my house last night. I had no idea he was there until the morning. I am sick,” her voice hitched, “I am sick and tired of your fucking son putting me in the middle." Lexi looked up from where her eyes had been glued to her lap. Making eye contact with Gemma, Gemma felt her spine go cold at a look that was violent and fed up. "Tara jumped me- pulled me off the bike- Jax did nothing- I defended myself. That is the last time I am saying it to you Gemma. Believe who you want."
Gemma sat down in the nearest chair with a dramatic sigh. “Well why didn’t you just say so.”
Lexi closed her eyes and took a deep breathe trying to calm herself. Happy noticed that her hands were clenched and shaking. TIg glanced at the Killer and followed his dark stare. He lovingly, gently pried her fingers apart and rubbed his thumbs over the crescent imprints from her nails. Chibs made his move then, the medic's bag appearing in his hand. Got to give it to the Prospect, he had come and gone with no one noticing. Chibs moved to Lexi's side examining her scrapes. "We need to clean these honey and then we need to take a look at that ankle, see if it's broken." Lexi nodded allowing the Scott to clean and bandage the wound on her thigh in silence but not before she scooped up Happy's abandoned beer on the bar and downing it in one go and taking a long hit off the joint. "When I know what's goin on with your ankle, I'll give you something for the pain and to chill your nerves love." Lexi gave him a thin smile before carefully putting the now significantly shorter joint between the Scotts lips who gave her a roguish smile in return. “I’m good,” she muttered.
From her spot at a table Gemma lit a cigarette massaging her temples as she puffed and puffed.

Best. Job. Ever 4/12
So oops, I updated this like a week ago on AO3 but forgot to update here, so you’re getting 2 chapters again, lovelies!
Btw, this IS completely written, I’m just editing and posting as time allows.
Summary: Reader gets a job on the set of Spider-Man: Far from Home for the 3 weeks they are shooting in New York City as what she thinks is a production assistant, but a twist of fate has her reassigned as Tom Holland’s personal assistant. As she & Tom grow close during filming, will their budding friendship turn to more or will they go their separate ways after filming concludes?
Warnings: Language, but that’s pretty much it? This is basically a PG-13 rom-com.
Word Count: 2571 for chapter 4.
Author’s Note: As this was written WAY before Spider-Man: Far from Home was released (actually before Avengers: Endgame was as well) I’ve kept plot details and which scene was being shot on what day extremely vague. Also, I’m American but tried to write Tom as British as possible, although I do think he’d try to stay(ish) in character and use as much American slang as he could while he’s still playing Peter.
Chapter-Specific Author’s Note: Ik Rent went off Broadway in like 2008 or something but I do what I want, lol.
Requests are always open!
Cross-posted at AO3.
The rest of the week continued much like the first day: Y/N would show up at Tom’s hotel room at 7:15 with coffee (fortunately-- or unfortunately, Y/N honestly wasn’t sure which-- the rest of the week Tom had always been dressed by the time Y/N knocked on his door), they would ride to set, Tom would film a few scenes, they would eat lunch, Tom would get back to filming, and then they would head back to their hotel, eating dinner together in one of their rooms (usually something Y/N would run out and pick up or have delivered to her room) and hanging out for a while before parting for the night.
Saturday night had Y/N and Tom hanging out in Y/N’s hotel room eating Chinese takeout while watching Infinity War on the hotel TV’s cable.
“DAMN IT, QUILL!” Y/N yelled at the TV as he started beating Thanos in the head with his gun, causing Mantis to lose her balance and let go of her control of Thanos’ mind. “Ugh, every freaking time.”
Tom laughed. “Yeah, that’s basically everyone’s reaction.”
Y/N blushed. “Sorry about that. I just always want to punch Quill in the face right there. They had Thanos, and he comes traipsing along and ruins their chances of getting the Gauntlet off. I mean, I get that he was upset about Gamora, and rightly so, but dang, he just single handedly caused the destruction of half the universe!”
Y/N’s and Tom’s phones chimed simultaneously.
“Looks like the shooting schedule for next week is here,” Y/N said, pulling it up on her phone. “Your call times are different for each day, and it also looks like Friday will be a long one, but hey, you at least have Saturday and Sunday off before the final week of shooting.”
They worked out times to meet up to head to the set the next week and when Y/N turned her attention back to the TV Thanos had snapped his fingers and people were already starting to turn to ash. Y/N brought her hand to her chest as Peter clung to Tony. I don’t want to go. “I can’t believe you improvised that scene, but I should’ve figured that you’d quote The Doctor.”
Tom glanced over at her. “You watch Doctor Who?”
Y/N nodded. “Just New Who, starting with Eccleston, but yeah.”
“Who’s your favorite Doctor?”
“Ten, hands down,” Y/N said with zero hesitation.
“No wonder you recognized that line.”
YN nodded. “It just kills me every time, whether it’s you or David Tennant that says it.”
They talked about Doctor Who until it started to get late. “So, what are you planning to do with your day of freedom?” Tom asked as they cleaned up from dinner.
“Oh, I’m just planning on taking it easy tomorrow,” Y/N replied. “What about you?”
“I need to study my lines for next week.”
Y/N bit her lip. “Maybe I could help you run your lines? I mean, if you want, no big deal.”
Tom grinned. “I’d like that a lot, actually.”
“Great. I’ll text you when I get up?”
“Sounds good.”
“Ok, well, I’m gonna head out. It’s getting pretty late.”
Tom walked Y/N over to the door. “‘Night, Y/N.”
“‘Night, Tom.”
The next morning Y/N texted Tom as soon as she woke up and got dressed.
Hey, I’m up and can help you go over your lines whenever you’re ready.
Tom texted back almost immediately. Give me like 5 minutes, yeah?
Ok, sure. I’ll run downstairs to pick you up something from the coffee shop then.
The three bubbles that indicated that Tom was typing popped up. Actually I’m downstairs right now getting something, so no need!
Oh! Lol Ok then.
A few minutes later Tom texted back. Ok, I’m back upstairs. Come on over.
Y/N grabbed her stuff and walked down to Tom’s room.
Tom answered the door with a grin. “Morning, Y/N,” he said, ushering her in. Y/N paused mid-way into the room when she saw coffee and pastries set out for both of them.
“I figured since you’ve been fetching breakfast for me all week and since I was getting myself something anyway the least I could do is return the favor,” Tom said.
“Aww, that’s so sweet,” Y/N replied. “Thank you.”
They sat and ate then Y/N helped Tom run his lines until he was comfortable with them.  “Wow, it’s four already. I’m sure you want to relax the rest of the afternoon,” Y/N said, getting up from the couch where they had been sitting, “so I guess I’m gonna get out of your hair so you can chill.”  She turned toward the door. “Wait!” Tom exclaimed.
Y/N turned back to Tom.
Tom rubbed the back of his neck. “I, err, I have a surprise for you.”
He walked over to his dresser and pulled an envelope out of the top drawer, handing it to Y/N.
Y/N looked at him curiously as she opened it, finally pulling out the contents. Her jaw dropped. “Front row seats to Rent!?”
“You can’t come to New York and not see a Broadway play. I was hoping you’d accompany me tonight,” Tom said.
Y/N was still staring at the tickets. “How did you even know I liked Rent?”
“I, err… I overheard you singing ‘Out Tonight’ on Wednesday while you were waiting for me after the set was cleared,” Tom explained.
Y/N was still shocked. “But how did you even get these? It’s been sold out for months!”
Tom winked. “You’re not the only Rent-head around here, you know.”
“And are you sure you want me to come with you? You wouldn’t rather Z or someone else from the cast go with you?”
Tom shook his head. “I figured you’d appreciate the show as much as I do. So is that a yes?”
“Oh my gosh, YES!”  Y/N threw her arms around Tom in a massive hug. “This is so amazing! I’ve been wanting to see that play for years but never thought I’d have the chance to see it live!”
“Brilliant.” Tom beamed. “I’ll be ‘round in, say, a hour so we can have dinner beforehand? I know a great sushi restaurant in Times Square.”
“Sounds great.” Y/N turned to Tom again and gave him another hug. “You are just the absolute best, you know that? I can’t believe this -- I have to go get ready!”
Y/N ran back to her room and flew through getting ready.  She put on the nicest outfit she had brought (thank goodness she was a packrat and thought to bring a decent dress!) and hurried to do her hair and makeup.
She was applying her eyeliner in the bathroom mirror when there was a knock on her door. “Come in!” she called.  She and Tom had each gotten an extra room key and had swapped them in case of emergency, so she didn’t have to go answer the door.
Tom stuck his head in the door. “Y/N?”
“Almost ready!”
Y/N finished her makeup and stepped out of the bathroom. Tom was standing in front of Y/N’s full-length mirror and caught her reflection. A broad grin spread over his face and he turned toward her. “Y/N, you look stunning,” he breathed.
Y/N blushed. “Thank you. You look great too.”
Tom had worn a similar outfit to the one he had worn the night they went to dinner after the first day of filming, except this time he had paired an open-collar button-down shirt with his sports coat, jeans, and sneaker combo. He extended his arm. “Shall we?”
Y/N linked her arm with his. “Lead the way, Mr. Holland.”
“Viva, la vie, Bohemme!”
Y/N and Tom laughed as they stepped off the elevator.
“Oh my gosh, that was so much fun. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d be able to see Rent live and in person.” Y/N couldn’t keep the grin off of her face.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
They stopped in front of Tom’s door.  “You want to come in and watch the film version on Netflix?” he asked.
“Sure! I love the movie version. Gimmie like 5 minutes though to go change into something more comfortable?”
Tom nodded. “Ok. I’ve got snacks, so I’ll get everything set up while you change.”
“See you in a few.”
Y/N ran to her room and changed into some comfortable pants and a t-shirt, and pulled on a pair of fuzzy socks to walk down the hall in instead of putting her sneakers on.
She grabbed her keycard and headed back to Tom’s. The door had been held open by the privacy lock, so she just knocked gently and went in, disengaging the lock so the door could shut.
Tom was sitting on his bed, scrolling through Netflix. A bowl of popcorn and various movie theater-type candy was spread out next to him. His hair was wet-- he had obviously grabbed a quick shower while Y/N had been gone-- and he had changed into flannel pajamas pants and a plain white t-shirt. He looked up and grinned.
Y/N walked past him to the other side of the bed and climbed in, careful not to disturb the snacks in between them. “I see you got comfortable as well.”
Tom grinned. “Ready?”
“Let’s do it.”
As the opening credits rolled, Y/N said, “I think it's so great that most of the original Broadway cast reprised their roles for the movie.”
“Me too,” Tom agreed, grabbing a handful of popcorn.
They watched the movie mostly in silence, occasionally grabbing some popcorn or a handful of candy, until the opening notes to Light My Candle came on. Tom turned to Y/N. What you’d forget? he mouthed.
Y/N grinned. Got a light? she responded.
Tom reached for her. I know you, you’re… you’re shivering.
It’s nothing, they turned off my heat, and I’m just a little weak on my feet… Y/N pretended to swoon towards Tom and winked.
They kept going, both really getting into character. When they arrived at the line, They say I have the best ass below 14th Street, is it true? You’re staring again! Tom blushed and was flustered when he lip-synched Roger’s line, Oh no… I mean, you do… have a nice-- Y/N thought his flustered reaction seemed actually kind of genuine but quickly chalked it up to the darkness of the room and Tom’s really good acting skills and pushed it out of her mind as she kept going.
They continued their back & forth throughout the song. They call me, they call me Mimi...Y/N lip-synched, dangling a gummy worm in front of Tom before taking a bite with a grin as the song ended.
They both burst into laughter. “Oh my gosh, that was so fun,” Tom said in between fits of laughter, leaning back against the headboard.
Y/N fell over on Tom’s shoulder, she was laughing so hard. “That. Was. AWESOME.” She wiped a few stray tears of laughter away as she straightened.
Today 4 U was just starting. Y/N nodded toward the TV. “Think you’d be able to do that?”
“Definitely not in heels, at least not without loads of practice.” Tom answered. “I’m good, but I’m not that good.”
The rest of the movie was spent lip-syncing along to a majority of the soundtrack -- during “Out Tonight” Y/N grabbed the remote and used it as a makeshift microphone while she danced around the room, much to Tom’s amusement -- and watching in somber silence during “Without You”.
Y/N did a fist pump when the opening notes of “What You Own” started playing. “This is one of my favorite songs on the entire soundtrack,” she said. “It’s so powerful, and the bro-hug at the end just melts my heart.”
Tom nodded. “It’s definitely a turning point in the film.”
As the movie wound down, the popcorn and snacks dwindled as well. Tom placed the empty popcorn bowl on the nightstand next to him as the finale started.
“My one complaint is that I really wish the alternate ending would’ve been used in the film.”
“Me too!” Y/N exclaimed. “I mean I get why it wasn’t used, but I like the play’s version of the ending where it ends just like it begins. And speaking of… I’m so embarrassed I cried when Angel came running on stage during the finale.”
Tom chuckled. “I think it’s cute-- err, I mean nice. It’s nice that you’re reactive like that. Makes an actor feel like they’re giving a believable performance.”
“Speaking of acting…” Y/N checked her phone for the time. “It’s getting late. You better get some rest since your call time for tomorrow is early and you’re doing a lot of stunts.”
They stood and Tom walked Y/N to the door.
Y/N gave Tom a hug, and without thinking, also gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Oh, shit, I'm so sorry about that--” she stammered, taking a step back.
“What?” Tom looked confused.
“Just now-- I really didn’t mean to kiss you. I wasn’t thinking, and I understand if you’d be upset about it--”
Tom shook his head. “Why on earth would I be upset with you?” he tried to interrupt.
“--and it was completely unprofessional, so I’d also get it if you’d want to request a different assistant--”
“Wait, wait, Y/N!” Tom cried. He took Y/N's arms in a firm but gentle grip, steadying her. “I'm sorry to keep interrupting you, but I’m not upset at all.” He let go & studied her. “Have I given you the impression at any point this week that I've been anything less than pleased with you?”
Y/N blushed. “Well, no, not really…” she mumbled. “But I thought maybe you’d think I was hitting on you or something…”
“First off, it was just a kiss on the cheek, it’s not like you threw yourself at me.  And secondly…” Tom paused. “I know we haven’t known each other long, but I kind of already consider you a friend. You’re incredibly easy to talk to, we have loads in common, and at the risk of sounding completely pompous you don’t seem to just be friendly to me because of my celebrity status or because Sony is paying you to be. I mean come on, you’ve insisted on rotating who was paying for dinner all week. You’re a genuinely nice person and I like being around you. There’s absolutely no reason to fret, okay?”
Y/N nodded. “Ok.”
Tom stood. “Now that’s settled then, yeah?”
Y/N nodded. “Yeah.”
Tom reached out and gave her hand a gentle squeeze, then pulled her in for a hug. “Goodnight, Y/N.” He kissed her on the cheek, then gave her a wink.
Y/N laughed. “Goodnight, Tom. I’ll see you in the morning.”
She went in and got ready for bed. As she lay there in the darkness replaying the night in her head she suddenly realized that her feelings for Tom definitely weren’t going anywhere-- in fact they had blossomed into a full-scale crush. I am so screwed.

A Thousand Years - Chapter 2
"How was school!?" Esme called the moment the front door closed.
Instantly, the Cullen kids hung up their coats and bags but instead of taking off vampire speed, they walked calmly to the living room where Esme was. Carlisle was still at work and Esme was sitting on the sofa, a laptop in her lap an headphones in.
Alice sped over to look at what Esme was watching. She let out a girlish squeal and plopped down next to Esme, "Isnt that Mashiroiro Symphony? It's my favorite!!!"
Rosalie groaned as she headed upstairs to change, Emmett close behind. Jasper went off to change into hunting attire, leaving Edward alone in the living room with Esme and Alice.
Edward sped upstairs, changed into normal clothes as fast as possible which was incredibly fast for a vampire. He sped back downstairs, carrying his laptop and plopped down on the chair at the kitchen table. He opened the laptop and clicked onto Google.
Alice and Esme were too wrapped up in their anime film to notice as Edward hastily typed in: Vicasi.
Much to Edward's shock, he at once got several sites. None of them looked too helpful for they were almost all about hunting and hunting reserves. However, a name popped up which immediatly caught Edward's attention.
He clicked on the site and he felt his heart stop. At the top of the page was a headline from a newspaper: Top Skilled Mountain Hunter Isaac Vicasi Awarded for Saving Comrade from Giant Wolf.
Edward lowered his eyebrows at the last two words: Giant wolf... werewolf maybe?
He scrolled down and he almost choked on his own saliva when he saw a painting that was posted of Isaac Vicasi. it was an old painting.... looking at least several decades old. it was black and white but there was no denying the resemblance.... it was shocking! The jet black hair, piercing eyes, stern brown, thin lips, pale skin and high cheekbones... he looked just like Mr. VIcasi! They must be related!
He skipped over the article about the wolf attack until his eyes fell on a name: David Vicasi.
Edward paused and read the last paragraph:
Isaac Vicasi was out in the woods with three other hunters and his ten year old son: David Vicasi. They were out hunting the migrating deer when they got separated by a pack of giant wolves. Isaac had his son scale a tree to steer clear of the wolves while Isaac went in search of their comrades. Isaac found them cornered by the lead wolf. He managed to kill the wolf using five bullets, all to the heart before the wolf finally fell.
Edward frowned. There was nothing else about David...hm.
He kept scrolling till his eyes fell on another headline and his eyes bulged:
Isaac Vicasi's son: David Alexander Hamilton Vicasi goes missing on his twentieth birthday.
Edward scrolled down a little further till he saw a paragraph of the article where Isaac spoke about his son.
"David was a wonderful child. I never understood him completely but he had his way with people and animals. Everyone loved him. Most children teased him about how he would inherit my stern features and he would eventually scare people off. That was partially true but it never seemed to frighten the animals. When David had been with me in the mountains and I had told him to scale the tree, I came back after finding the others to find that he was no longer at the top of the tree. He was on the lowest branch, about eight feet from the ground, a look of calm wonder on his face. Below him on the ground was another giant wolf! A huge bright red wolf. It looked like a female which explained why she didn't act aggressive towards David. The wolf ran off after we approached but after that I noticed a change in David. He would wander into the woods whenever he could and when I found him, he was alone but he looked like he was windblown. He began to show an interest in the law and refused to go on any hunts with me again, unless I went hunting in the mountains. When he did come, he refused to even hold a gun. This always disappointed me for I had hoped he would show at least a similar love for hunting but as far as I could tell, he hated it with a deep furious passion. David began to change. He became happier even though I rarely saw him. His mother's death had weighed on him heavily since she died when he was five but he had seemed to recover nearing the end of his high school days. he expressed an interest in enrolling in the law school in New York. however, he never even applied to the school before he completely up and went missing. I contacted the school but they said that no one by the name of David Vicasi or with his traits had attended the school."
Edward frowned. This was interesting...it seemed as if the wolf in the woods had a connection to David's disappearance. He read further where a news article spoke of the police investigation:
A missing person's report was sent out all over the country. It didn't seem like the lad ran away for all his clothes were still at home, however his father did notice a backpack and a few personal things gone so there is a possibility. It's hard to miss a six foot young man with jet black hair, sharp features and piercing blue eyes but no one has seen anyone to match those features. On May 2nd, 1745, a peculiar stranger brought in the body of twenty year old David Vicasi who had been shot in the chest. He said he had found him on the road in Wisconsin. His body was infested with parasites so he was cremated.
Edward stopped scrolling and he squinted at the page. wait... did that say May 2nd, 1745? Opening another window, Edward typed in: David Vicasi.
Immediately a painting popped up that was centuries old...it looked just like the Mr. VIcasi from the school! Edward scanned his personal information and found that he was born: 1715...so wait...if he died at the age of twenty...how could his body have lasted another ten years? He would have been twenty in the year 1735...but that was ten years before his body was found. Hm.
Edward closed the new window and opened up the other one. The stranger...who was the stranger? He scrolled further and his heart began to pound.
After the cremation, Isaac Vicasi expressed an interest in keeping his son's ashes but when the ashes were found, it proved to be impossible since the termites that had taken over his body had left little to burn. Isaac Vicasi's heart was broken at the notion that he couldn't keep his son's ashes.
There was something fishy about all of this. Edward thought. He quickly grabbed up his cell phone and rushed outside. When he got onto the front porch, he opened it up and called the school office. luckily, he had never done that before and the school didn't have his phone number so they wouldn't know who was calling.
"Hello? Forks High School, how may I help you?"
Edward quickly changed his voice so that it sounded deeper, "hello, this is Mr. VIcasi."
"Oh hello Mr. Vicasi!" the woman replied cheerfully, "is everything alright?"
"Everything is fine," Edward replied. "I just wanted to check in to see how the kids did on their first day."
The woman chuckled, "Oh they did great! They are wonderful kids Mr. Vicasi."
"Just call me by my first name," Edward said, crossing his fingers.
"Very well Hamilton," the woman remarked, "Thank you for checking in. Anything else?"
"No that was it," Edward replied and soon hung up.
He rushed back inside and switched on his laptop. He quickly searched: Hamilton Vicasi.
Sure enough, a site popped up...about the lawyer Hamilton Vicasi. Edward clicked on the site and almost fell out of his seat. It was the Mr. Vicasi from the school! He quickly read the single paragraph about the man.
thirty-two year old Hamilton Vicasi is from northern Canada where he studied law. He attended the law university in Chicago before moving to Canada with his wife: Charity Uley who was a competitive gymnast until she married at the age of 28 and lives with her husband and their five kids in Canada.
Five kids? That's not right! The VIcasi family Edward knew had at least ten children...Then he noticed a small red band at the bottom of the page that read: All other information on Hamilton VIcasi and Charity Uley has been deleted.
Edward let out a grown. There was something that they were hiding...but what was it?
"Hey Edward," Carlisle said as he stepped into the kitchen, having returned, "What are you working on?"
"Nothing," Edward replied.
Carlisle came over and read the paragraph quickly, "Huh...why does the name Charity Uley sound familiar?"
Edward got the strange sense that Carlisle wasn't surprised...and it was like his adopted father was hitting at something. Edward looked at him but Carlisle averted his eyes. Edward tried to read his mind but Carlisle began to hum a song in his head. UGH!
"What do you know about them?" Edward demanded.
"That is something you have to find out for yourself," Carlisle replied, "Though I would look into that name."
As Carlisle left, Edward squinted at the name: Charity Uley....huh...it did sound familiar but why....OH YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Uley! As in....SAM ULEY! THE LEADER OF THE DOGS!
************
Edward was infuriated to say the least. When Esme and Alice looked up from their binge watching, all they saw was a blur as Edward charged from the kitchen, upstairs and within three seconds, charged back down, a handful of papers in his hand which he had just gotten from the printer. They heard him slam his laptop closed before shooting out the backdoor to who knows where.
When Edward finally stopped running, it was on a small ridge overlooking the river that separated the werewolf territory from the vampire territory. It wasn't long before his nostrils were filled with the stench of werewolf.
"What are you doing here?" an all too familiar voice inquired.
Edward was surprised, to say the least when the voice didn't hold as much venom as it would have if he had been standing there two years earlier. Things had changed since he had broken up with Bella. Honestly, Jacob began to agree with Edward in many respects. When Bella had begun to change, and not for the better, Jacob had pointed out to Edward that he didn't know what happened to Bella but she changed. She had used to be such a nice girl but now, neither the vampire nor the dog recognized her.
"I have a problem," Edward remarked, turning to the side to see Jacob sitting on a rock that was in the middle of the river.
It was a convenient spot to talk since it allowed the tow to talk without having to yell over the sound of the river. Of course, they didn't tell Sam, Carlisle or anyone about it. Edward walked vampire speed to the bank and walked over the stones till he was standing on the rock about five feet in front of Jacob. He sat down, not crosslegged like Jacob, but let his feet plunge into the ice cold water. He didn't even feel the cold.
"What's the deal? Bella again?" Jacob inquired. "She is constantly calling and saying that you wont talk to her."
"Why did you stop talking to her?" Edward inquired. "I thought that the moment I was out of the way, you would pounce on Bella."
Jacob snorted, "She's not a hunk of meat. Besides, you saw something in Bella that I didn't. I was letting first impressions stick with me too much. I had met Bella when I was a kid and too young to know any better. I thought she would stay the same sweet, kind, thoughtful, pure little girl she had always been but you discovered the truth... that she was turning into like all those other human girls."
When Edward didn't reply, agree or even grunt in response, Jacob peered at the vampire. Needless to say, the two of them were not friends but they confided in each other. It was strange but they had realized that it helped to talk about their problems and thoughts to someone who wasn't their kin... for it was like someone who wasn't their pack understood them better. If Jacob ever tried to talk about his frustration with Bella to any of the other werewolves, they would tell him to just go imprint on someone to get Bella out of his mind. Edward didn't do that... he just listened. And Vice Versa.
"What's on your mind?" the dog inquired. "I'm not telepathic like you but I can sense when there is something going on in that blood sucker brain of yours."
"It's about... a girl," Edward sighed.
Jacob's dark eyebrows shot up and he planted a smug expression on his face, "Really? Dont tell me. Rose?"
"She's taken. And Ew."
Jacob laughed, "Alice?"
"She's like a kid."
"Bella's friend Jessica?"
Edward was about to lose his patience with the dog so he just spat it out, "Kamber Vicasi."
Jacob froze where he was and if Edward had never been surprised about anything Jacob did, this was the first time. The werewolf almost fell off the stone he was sitting on and had to grab the rock to steady himself. Edward had barely hissed out the name but it wasn't Edward's tone that had shocked the young man, both of them knew that for sure.
"Do.... do you know her?" Jacob asked.
"No not really," Edward replied. "She's in some of my classes... and I've seen her around school... we haven't been introduced though."
When there was no reply from Jacob, Edward looked up and his eyes widened. The color had drained from Jacob's dark face to the point where he almost looked naturally fair skinned. His black eyes were as round as saucers and his jaw was almost touching the rock he was sitting on.
"Wait..." Edward whizzed, suddenly reading Jacob's mind, "You know her?"
Edward decided that Jacob would tell him better if he got out of his thoughts so he stopped reading Jacob's mind and let the dog explain.
"I met her.... and her two older brothers....years ago...." Jacob whispered. "I became real close with the three of them...."
"What two brothers are you talking about?" Edward asked. "She has several."
"Vince and Glynn," Jacob replied, "Dark haired. Look really similar to their dad."
Edward nodded, "Yeah I remember them. They're also in my classes. But that's the least of my problems."
"Why do you need my help then?" Jacob asked, trying to erase the unease on his face.
"Their mother.... is related to Sam isnt she?"
"huh?"
"Charity Uley!" Edward hissed.
Jacob's eyes widened and his mouth opened more if that was possible, "Charity is alive? But Sam said she died forty years ago.... in a car crash."
Edward narrowed his eyebrows, "Did he say how old she was when she died?"
"Yea.... in her early twenties.... why?"
Edward's eyes widened and Jacob felt his heart race. If it was enough to worry or surprise a vampire, it was bad.
"But... Hamilton Vicasi couldn't be more than thirty-five to forty," Edward pointed out. "And his wife.... Charity.... is in her thirties."
Jacob frowned, "That isnt possible."
"Why not?" Edward asked. "Couldn't she be a werewolf? That would explain how she lived longer, considering she's Sam's daughter."
"She's not Sam's daughter," Jacob replied. "She is his sister. Besides that, werewolves cannot pass down their abilities to their offspring."
"So.... if she is Sam's sister, all the more possibility that she could be a werewolf." Edward remarked, getting impatient.
"I'm not denying that she is a werewolf," Jacob pointed out. "Because she is....but...."
"But what?" Edward snapped.
Jacob lifted his eyes and Edward immediately read his mind. What he heard wasn't what he expected....and it shocked him to no end.
'Sam banished her before the accident because she had fallen in love with a certain David Vicasi.'
************
Edward flew into the house and straight upstairs. He slammed his bedroom door closed and plopped down on the couch. How was this possible? He had shown Jacob the articles which he had printed off and Jacob had confirmed that the woman in the picture was Charity Uley, Sam's long dead, banished sister... and the man who was supposed to be Hamilton Vicasi.... was David Vicasi, the man she had fallen in love with and had run away with.
Edward had asked Jacob if he knew why Sam banished Charity but Jacob said that he didn't and that Sam never talked about it. The young vampire yelled in anger and threw the article across the room in a fury. Why was this driving him insane? Why did he find himself helplessly attracted to a girl who was the daughter of a possible werewolf? Why couldn't he read any of the Vicasi children's minds, or the mind of their father. What was it about them that he couldn't get out of his mind? Why did Sam say that Charity died in a car crash? Was that a lie or did Charity fake it? WHat's more, why did Sam banish her for loving a man?
Groaning, Edward flopped onto his stomach and closed his eyes. He never really closed his eyes but now he did it to clear his head. He let out a deep breath to clear his mind and sighed. What was going on with him?
Edward glanced across the room at the pile of papers that he had thrown and something caught his eye.... it was the picture of David.... or Hamilton.... gosh that was confusing! Furrowing his brow, Edward sat up and picked up the piece of paper, studying the picture. If the picture was of Hamilton Vicasi.... but Jacob confirmed him as David.... could that have meant that David had a son without anyone knowing it and he grew up to be Hamilton? But how did Hamilton end up getting married to his father's lover? that didn't make sense....and it was crazy scary how much they looked alike. Wouldn't Hamilton have picked up some of his mother's features? Unless.....
Edward sat up straight and ran his fingers through his perfect copper hair. No no no no no no.... how was that possible? It was impossible! Where did the Vicasi kids come from if that was the case? Why would Charity Uley fall in love with him if that was the case? How did she fall in love with him? But it all made sense! That would explain the features... the perfect features, the perfect hair and piercing eyes.... the pale skin....and not being able to read Mr. Vicasi's mind....
David and Hamilton Vicasi weren't related..... they were one and the same person! David faked his death so that he could live in peace from his father... and changed his name to Hamilton and married Charity.... the reason why he looked like he wasn't centuries old....was because he had never aged after he turned thirty-nine.... he was a vampire!
*************
As the Cullen’s kids walked to school, they could all sense that Edward was in another world. He had his head slightly down, eyebrows furrowed, lips pursed together in thought. They could only imagine what he was thinking of. He hadn’t told them about his discoveries and was planning on telling them at lunch. He wasn’t sure if Esme and Carlisle knew but he wanted to just share it with his siblings for the moment.
Edward was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard Rose’s erupt with shouts of joy and wonder. Looking up, he realized that the cause for this was the arrival of the Vicasi family. This time, he noticed that the person driving the van wasn’t Mr. Vicasi…. But a woman. She was a beautiful woman with pale red hair in perfect ringlets that fell about her shoulders, finely shaped features, full lips and a beautiful smile. Her eyes were a bright green color. She wasn’t pale like her husband, nor dark skinned but just fair.
The side door of the van opened and out tumbled the Vicasi kids. The last to jump out was Kamber who turned to close the van door. Just when she was about to, she waved at the little kids in the back and called out a farewell to her mother.
Kamber closed the car door and rushed off after her siblings. Edward turned his sights onto Mrs. Vicasi and concentrated on her mind. He wasn’t surprised when he was able to read her thoughts.
They’re growing up so fast. It’s hard to keep up with them. Now what do I have left to do? Stop at the store… pick up Dale and Kenelm from their sleepover and drop them off at school…. Yeah, I think that’s it.
Edward smiled as he blocked out her thoughts. She reminded him of Esme, caring, a loving and thoughtful mother.
“Edward,” Alice hissed, “Head’s up.”
Edward turned to look at her, only to find out that she was trying to get his attention because at that moment, Kamber Vicasi skipped past them up the stairs the class. Edward didn’t know why but it felt like he was frozen to the spot, watching her run past. Her bright red hair bellowed behind her in the long ponytail. She was wearing a baseball cap that morning, feathering red bangs framing her face and falling slightly over her lashes. Those weren’t there the day before. She must have gotten them cut.
“Yo! Jasper!” a voice called.
Edward was shocked. No one ever called their names at school, let alone Jasper who was always like a stone at school. All eyes turned only to find themselves looking into the bright blue eyes of Vince Vicasi. The eldest of the Vicasi kids and probably the most good looking of the boys (at least out of the ones they had seen). His jet-black hair was brushed up and out of his eyes, not slicked or flattened down but sort of spiked up kind of like Edward’s. His jet-black eyebrows were arched and brought great expression. His firm lips were perfectly shaped and masculine, and his jaw was so finely etched and sharp that it looked sharp enough to cut metal.
By reading the minds of all the girls nearby, Edward knew that the boy already had a fan group. He was incredibly handsome and held the same otherworldly perfection as his father and like all his siblings. Edward tried to read his mind but was only met with the sound of nature.
“Hey Vince,” Jasper greeted, smiling.
That was a new one. None of the Cullens had ever seen Jasper smile at anyone outside of their family or other vampires and he didn’t even seem tense when Vince approached. Of course, only Edward knew why that was because Vince was part vampire which explained why none of the Vicasi’s blood was sickening.
“Hey,” Vince greeted the other Cullens, smiling and flashing a perfect smile that made all the girls around them basically faint in their heads, “You must be the rest of the Cullens. Jasper told me about you.” “Yeah,” Jasper confirmed, “This is Emmett, Rose, Alice and Edward. Guys, this is my new friend, Vince.” Vince waved, and the others returned it. Edward found himself smiling at the same time. He liked this guy, even if he was part wolf. What surprised Edward even more was that knowing that they were part wolf, he was shocked that none of them carried a stench. In fact, they all smelt really good. They must have inherited the vampire smell rather than the wolf smell.
“VINCE!” another male voice called. “Where did you go? You said you were right behind us!”
The Cullens turned and stared in wonder as Kamber and another Vicasi boy came trotting over. The boy looked to be about fifteen or possibly sixteen. His features were just as perfect as everyone else’s, but his hair was more of a rich brown than a black. It was in the same style as Vince’s and his features were just as sharp as his big brother’s.
“That was a figure of speech Zayne,” Vince pointed out.
Vince wrapped an arm around his brother’s shoulders as well as Kamber’s and dragged the two over to the Cullens. “These are my crazy siblings, Zayne and Kamber.”
Jasper and Emmett grinned and shook Zayne’s hand, but it proved difficult since Vince had the two kids in a headlock.
“Hey bro, can’t breathe,” Zayne faked choking, “Please… loosen up on the death grip!”
Vince chuckled and released his siblings. Kamber resituated the cap on her head and smiled at Rose and Alice.
“I’m Kamber,” she said, holding out her hand.
Rose and Alice both shook her hand, smiling as they introduced themselves.
“We just call her Bambi for short,” Vince remarked.
Kamber rolled her eyes playfully, “Which isn’t really short and doesn’t make any sense whatsoever!” “Whatever you say Thumper!” Vince remarked, smirking at his sister.
Kamber put on a fake face of horror, “On second thoughts, I prefer Bambi.”
The two Vicasi boys laughed before Kamber smiled and turned to greet the three Cullen boys. When she went to shake Edward’s hand, she looked up at him and smiled, having not noticed that he was frozen to the spot.
“I recognize you. You’re Edward, right? You were the one who stopped my fall yesterday.” Edward slowly nodded, still unable to move or barely breathe. She was so close… and smiling at him. He could smell her all the way from there… and it was an amazing smell. Lavender and roses… but what was even more strange was that it wasn’t an intoxicating smell like Bella’s that made Edward want to drink blood…. It….it made him feel light… relaxed… safe…at peace. It made him smile.
“Well we should probably go,” Kamber remarked, looping her arms through her brothers’, “Before we get in trouble from Glynn. He can’t stand being left alone with the others. Says it’s too much responsibility. See ya!”
With that, the girl dragged off her two brothers with surprising ease considering how they both towered over her. The two boys waved at the Cullens as they disappeared into the building.
“Okay,” Rose started. “Quick question. How come they smell so good… but not intoxicating and how can Jasper talk to them without wanting to eat them alive?”
Edward sighed and all eyes turned to him.
“I think it’s time I told you guys everything.”
**************
“They are what!?” Rose whisper hissed a little too loud.
“SHHHHHH!!!” Jasper and Emmett both hissed at her across the cafeteria table that they occupied.
“They’re hybrids,” Edward replied, “Part vampire, part werewolf. Their mother is a werewolf and their father is a vampire. That is why I could read their mother’s mind.”
“But why couldn’t you read Mr. Vicasi’s or any of the kids?” Alice insisted.
Edward shrugged, “Must be part of Mr. Vicasi’s vampire abilities…”
“A shield,” Emmett whispered, “He must be a shield. That is why you cannot read his mind and that is how you cannot read any of the kids. He must have handed it down to them.” Edward shrugged, “But it’s strange…I cannot hear their thoughts, but I hear…. Nature instead of silence.”
“Hm,” Jasper remarked placing his chin on his palm, “Well at least that clears up why their blood isn’t enticing. But what I don’t understand is why they don’t smell like werewolves. Gosh, even their mom doesn’t.” “That is something I cannot think of,” Edward replied.
He felt a jabbing pain on his lower ankle and realized that it came from Alice’s heel which she had jabbed into his leg to get his attention. He didn’t even have to turn around to know that the Vicasi teens had entered the cafeteria. He could hear their soft singing minds (that he couldn’t read) but he couldn’t smell Kamber’s alluring scent.
Glancing over his shoulder he spied the teens but Kamber was absent. Frowning, he tried to think of where she could be. Maybe she was just a bit behind.
“Maybe we should invite them over sometime,” Rose whispered. All at once she had all her sibling’s attention and she gave them puzzled looks, “What?” “You hate werewolves, yet you want them to come over for a visit?” Jasper pointed out.
Rose shrugged, “They’re part vampire, too right? Besides, they seem like really interesting people.”
“Edward would love that,” Emmett whispered to Jasper, too quietly for Edward to hear but he read his brother’s mind.
“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that,” Edward hissed but he felt his usually sheet white face go slightly pink.
Edward was snapped out of his thoughts by the strong smell of jasmine and fresh forest. Kamber came bounding into the cafeteria as light as a feather. She bounded over to the table where her siblings sat and squashed between Vince and Glynn, barely making a sound on the floor with her feet.
“Guess what!?” Kamber whispered, wrapping an arm around each of her brothers’ necks and nearly choking them to death. “Mom just texted. She said that we have to go somewhere later today.”
“Don’t tell me it’s the fresh market again,” Zayne groaned. “Eustace and Nevaeh need to stop being so picky about what meat they like.” Kamber chuckled lightly and shook her head, “She didn’t give the particulars, but I doubt it’s that.” “Maybe we’ll visit Jacob,” Glynn mused, “I bet Antigone would loooooove that!” “Shut up!” Antigone hissed, slapping her brother’s arm but Glynn just grinned mischievously at her.
The girl burned up a bright pink which only brought smirks onto the rest of her siblings’ faces.
“So,” Rose remarked, “They know the Blacks.” “There is nothing wrong with that,” Jasper pointed out. “After all they are kind of family to the dogs considering who their mother is.”
“I wonder if Sam knows about this,” Edward remarked aloud, “After all, Mrs. Vicasi was kind of banished because of her love for Mr. Vicasi…”
Alice suddenly leant forward, “A forbidden love!? You didn’t tell us that part Edward!”
Edward sighed and rolled his eyes at his sister’s fangirling. He was about to tell her to not talk to loud when a soft voice spoke from behind him and Edward almost flew out of his seat.
“Hey there!”
Edward tried to not snap around too fast when he recognized the voice of Kamber Vicasi who had appeared behind his chair. She smiled at him and the rest of the Cullens.
“Mind if I sit with you? My brothers are getting a little rowdy.”
Sure enough, Zayne and Glynn had started a food fight which luckily didn’t make too much of a mess, but it definitely made a scene. Alice let out a bright chirp and scooted to the side so that there was room between her and Rose. Kamber sat down and set her food tray on the table. There was no meat on her tray. She had a king salad with no dressing, an apple, a few carrots and a glass of milk.
“So, Alice,” Kamber remarked after a moment, “I heard that you love Anime.” Alice almost jumped out of her seat before grabbing Kamber’s arm and hugging it, “I love it! Do you like it too!?”
Kamber smiled, “I kinda have to like it, what with having little sisters who watch it day and night.” Alice was all over the girl the rest of lunch while Rose was trying to save Kamber from possibly being hugged to death. Jasper and Emmett were grinning the whole time, rather amused by Alice’s enthusiasm while Edward sat silently, his amber eyes fixed on Kamber who for the whole time was smiling even though Alice was squeezing the life out of her. It was like the girl was shining.
*************
“Edward!” Esme called from downstairs, “Can you come here a minute?” Edward was downstairs in a second only to find that the rest of the Cullen family was already there and seated except for Emmett who was leaning against the railing of the stairs.
“What’s up?” Alice inquired.
Esme and Carlisle exchanged looks before Carlisle spoke, “We are going to be having some guests over in a few hours.” “Ooh! Is it our cousins?” Rose inquired. They were the only guests they got that she enjoyed.
Esme shook her head, “They are old friends of ours who just recently moved back here. Carlisle knew them before Edward, and I joined the family.”
Edward’s eyebrows rose. They must be really old friends if Carlisle knew them even before Edward became a vampire.
“They’ll be here in about an hour,” Carlisle explained. “The father and I went to college together. He was a little more serious about studying than I was. Which is probably why he got better grades. Anyway, they’re new to Forks and the parents have been hoping that you kids and their kids would bond. It’s hard to come by friends when you are not human.” “Tell me about it,” Rose muttered.
Emmett smirked at the back of the girl’s head, “Anything you want us to do before they get here?”
Carlisle nodded, “Go hunting. Get your thirst out of your system. I know it’s not like we’re having humans over, but they have little ones and we don’t wish to scare them.” The kids all nodded in understanding before sprinting upstairs to change into hunting attire. Edward of course was the first one out the door and already up to the ridge before his siblings were out the door. He stood atop the cliff, looking out over the vast water below him. He took a deep breath and smelt the air. He could smell the blood of different kinds of animals around him, but he wanted to make a kill other than a squirrel or a rabbit.
Suddenly he caught wind of the blood of a deer… but there was something off. There was the heartbeat… the scent of blood… but for some reason it didn’t make him thirsty. Shaking his head, deciding that it was just because he wasn’t overly thirsty, Edward sprinted off in the direction of the deer.
He found the creature about a mile from the house. It was just calmly walking through the woods, nibbling on some bushes here and there but completely oblivious to Edward watching her. It was a healthy white doe. Edward couldn’t get a good look at her because she was hidden behind a cluster of bushes, but the white ears told him that it was an albino.
Edward slowly crept towards the deer, trying to not step on any branches. He froze when his foot touched a dry twig and it snapped. The deer froze but not like most. Its head didn’t shoot up and its eyes didn’t show any horror. Instead, the deer’s ears pricked up with interest. Edward could hear the deer chew a few leaves before it slowly made its way out of the bushes and towards… Edward?
Edward frowned in puzzlement as the deer slowly strode out of the bushes and stood there, about ten feet from him, just staring. Edward was in a crouching position, one hand on the ground and his legs bent, prepared to pounce but he suddenly relaxed.
Edward had seen many beautiful animals in the world and had eaten many of them, but this deer was beyond beautiful. It’s pure white coat was untouched and reflexed the sunlight off its coat. It’s pretty white ears stood erect with interest and were pointed in Edward’s direction. Its nose had a slight pink blush instead of a black color like most deer. What shocked Edward were it’s huge blue eyes. They stared at Edward, unwavering.
Edward slowly rose to his full height, relaxing his body as he stared at the deer. Any other deer would have bounded off the moment he made a move, but this deer just watched him with curiosity. Edward took a few steps towards the doe when he almost had a heart attack when two huge creatures bounded through the bushes towards him.
Edward took several steps back to keep from getting trampled by the two beasts who now stood between him and the doe. The doe looked at the two creatures and almost seemed annoyed at their presence. Edward stared in shock at the two huge beasts before him. One was a giant albino stag, ten point horns and was at least twice the size of the doe. His legs were spread apart in anger and he was spouting grunts through his nose as if trying to intimidate Edward.
What really intimidated Edward was the massive white bear who stood next to the stag. It wasn’t a polar bear… just a giant white grizzly bear but it was huge. Edward had taken down a grizzly before, but this bear was twice that size.
Edward took a few more steps backward, thinking of running but something happened. The doe scampered around the two male beasts and stood between Edward and them, facing the bear and the stag. The doe spread her legs apart to give her a stance before letting out an annoyed bellow. The stag and the bear both froze and seemed to relax but kept their piercing blue eyes on Edward.
The doe glanced at Edward over it’s shoulder before turning to the stag and bear. With a single bound, the three animals were gone and Edward was left standing there, perplexed.
“EDWARD!” Alice called as she and the others ran up, “Found anything yet? We already finished.” Edward shrugged, “I’m not that hungry….” Jasper frowned and waved his hand in front of Edward’s face, “You seem out of it man. What’s up?” “Nothing.” Edward replied. “Let’s go before Carlisle’s friends arrive.” When the kids came sprinting in through the back door, they heard a lot of voices downstairs in the living room. Guessing that the guests were already there, they slipped upstairs and changed out of their hunting attire before descending. Edward took longer than the rest which was completely unusual but none of the others seemed to notice.
When he came down the stairs, he found his four siblings standing on the stairs, frozen in place. Edward walked down and standing next to Alice, looked over at where Carlisle and Esme stood, greeting the guests. Edward felt his heart catch in his throat. Other than the two adults who stood with Carlisle and Esme, there were at least fifteen kids, the oldest being around Emmet’s age and the youngest was just a baby. Most of the kids had apple red hair while all the others had jet black hair.
Esme noticed the Cullen kids and smiling, she called to them. All eyes turned towards the Cullen kids and that was when Edward felt a hand punch his insides.
The person who was holding the small baby turned and Edward was met with a huge pair of bright blue eyes, a head full of red hair and a beautiful smile.
“Hey guys!” Kamber Vicasi called.

I did an adaptation comparison for my Making Monsters class where I compared the Deadites from the Evil Dead Musical and the Evil Dead Remake. I basically explained what was similar and different and why things were the way they were. I would’ve gone more in-depth but I was already 400 words over the limit as it is.
The Deadites from Evil Dead are not particularily nuanced by horror movie standards. Compared to the likes of Dracula, Frankenstien's Monster, and the  Deadites are incredibly simple. They're a lot like zombies in that regard, as there's only a few rules you need to follow when adapting them and you can fill in the rest with whatever you want. This is especially apparent when you compare the two polar opposite addaptations in the Evil Dead franchise, which are the Evil Dead Remake and the Evil Dead Musical, which we'll be looking at today. The Deadites in the Remake and the Musical are fairly similar conceptuatlly, and that goes for the rest of the franchise as well. In both adaptations the Deadites are slumbering demons that awaken because phrases from a book know as the Necronomicon are read. They're  hundreds of years old, presumably because old slumbering or locked away seem to frighten people fairly well. The conept of a being that could never truly be defeated when it was awake coming back to kill everyone is enough to induce panic in a movies characters, and by extention the audience. Either way, the demons proceed to torment and possess the main cast. This could very easily have been inspired by movies like the Exorsist and, for the Remake at least, by the resergence of demonic possession films beginning with Paranormal Activity. People find losing control of their body and mind scary, it's why this particular genre of horror movies keeps coming back, and it's easy to play off of demons in religion as an easy way of explaining how the demons work. The biggest thing the Deadites have that differenciates them from other movie monsters is that the can put on a facade of the host they inhabit, completely copying their mannerisms and even their memories it seems, which they often do to trick the main characters. This adds a paranoia inducing psychological element to the Deadites that the average zombie or demon lacks. It can drive a character mad trying to decide whether or not their loved one is truly back or not because they don't understand exactly how Deadites work. In fact, the actual rules to the Deadites and what they can and can't do are so vague that it often makes the audience paranoid as to whether or not the character isn't possessed anymore. They can also possess objects and other minor things, like Mouse heads or clocks, which makes it easier for them to torment characters. There's more finer details, but as we're short on words we'll just continue on. As for what's different between the Deadites, it's fairly easy to some up in one sentence. The Evil Dead Remake tries to be scary, while the Musical does not. In fact, the Musical goes for an almost purely comedic tone, which is still in line with how the Deadites and the series as a whole works considering the series became more of a dark comedy rather than a horror series as it continued on. This comedic shift is immediately apparent with how the Deadites talk and move. In the remake the majority of the Deadites almost resemble zombies with they don't actually talk, with the exception of Evil Mia who only makes vulgar statements. All of them just sort of lumber around, having muscle spasms and not saying a single word. In contrast, the musical often has the Deadites dancing around and making witty quips with the characters. In fact the Deadites in the musical all seem to have fully fledged personalities that are seemingly based off the original host. This is most evident by Evil Ed, who has a solo song lamenting how spinless he was as a human and he probably won't be able to do much as a Deadite, before having a duet with his not-Deadite wife that gives him the confidence he needs to try and kill Ash. Also, Evil Cheryl and a few others make comments about how they were treated when they were alive. Now the Remake Deadites do this occassionally too, but the remake actively makes it apparent through their tone of voice and terrible things they say  that the Deadites are just trying to screw with the characters, while the musical really have that distinction. In general the Deadites have a lot of personality to make them more human and relatable, most likely so that their jokes would work better, while the remake actively tries to make the Deadites seem monsterous through their zombie like behavior and general Unlieable and deceptive behavior. No where is this more apparent than how they handle their unpossessed facades. In the remake this is used almost purely to lure in the main cast in order to try and kill them off, like with how Mia lured David's girlfriend into the basement in order to try and kill her. In the musical however, this is only even done in one scene, where all of Ash's friends seemingly come to their senses, only for Ash's girlfriend of them to start piggy backing Ash and taunt him. Ash then decapitates his girlfriend and she proceeds to taunt him as he goes to cut her head in two. The main difference is that the musical Deadites seem much more focused on tormenting the characters rather than actively trying to kill them. All the lengthy musical numbers where the characters cower on one side of the stage while a Deadite sings menacingly at them also play into this idea. They're like this because the joke of the musical is that everything is ridiculous and not played seriously in the slightest, and that's probably the only way an Evil Dead musical, and by extentsion the Deadites, could work in this adaptation. It chooses not to play off of peoples established fears of demons and chooses to go in a different direction. On the other hand, the Evil Dead remake attempted to be scary by playing everything completely straight and playing upon our paranoia and fear of the unknown and losing control of our very being. Honestly, this applies to just about everything else I'd compare, like how in both adaptations we have characters forced to cut off their own hand and how the musical makes it ridiculously over the top and the remake plays it so straight that it's terrifying. So yea, the musical is funny and the remake is paranoia inducing.
