I think these two would be such a cute older brother and younger brother duo (at least, before season 4 since Henry actually ages and Nate's been 11 for the past 30 years lmao)
Sorry its hard to see but Nate drew Ultra Nate and Henry as a rockstar on the bottom drawing
Also I know Henry likes drumming just like Nate. Might draw them both playing drums.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday, here are some standouts I enjoyed!
☀️ HAVE you listened to Calling All Adventurers from @thetowerarray? Well why not?? This show is for fantasy and dnd fans and it’s delightful, funny, and something else too—as the Host recounts his adventures, you hear how unsettling it is to become a hero, how death becomes commonplace and godlike powers are no big deal. I am watching the Host’s slow characterization with interest.
👁️ Dungeons and Daddies is definitely one of my favorites, one of the few actual plays I don’t just like, I love. This episode in particular hits for me because of the direction Anthony Burch is taking Francis’ character. Francis has been a powertripping kid with a gun for so long, but confronted with the consequences of doing whatever you want in the form of his father, he is realizing he needs to have more purpose. And the form which this takes is terrifying and eldritch of course, shoutout to horror and gore, but I am fascinated to see where it goes.
🔪 Englewood After Dark has broken my heart. I’m very interested to see how this new development affects our heroes—they are both too stubborn to give up the hunt for the truth under normal circumstances, but this last blow might be enough to break at least one of them. I’m interested to see who.
🎡 Mayfair Watcher’s Society is doing a series including some old recurring favorite characters, and maybe that’s why this episode made me gasp audibly. Their usual creepy fare will get you, but this had me on the edge of my seat.
🌛Cytochrome Hear, a show that does little-known classical adaptations, posted The Man in the Moone, and I love the way they set this up as a sort of lecture, complete with context that would have been lost on me about a whimsical 17th century novel. Oliver Morris is a great choice for our narrator as well, and the amount of scholarship and skill on display through the story is stupendous. If you’re a Re: Dracula girlie, go check out Cytochrome Hear.
🫀 The second episode of @thegospelofhaven was just as gross as the first, and I am loving this exploration of like, the endpoint of a practice of glorifying a body. What if body horror was your livelihood, your god, your religion? It’s fascinating and horrid and such a good show. I love the music especially, and B. Narr and Janine Bower are killing it.
🍔 Along with the Gospel of Haven came a trailer for another new show, Fresh Meat, and I had to check that out too. I love a found footage investigation, I love fake true crime with a supernatural twist, and I love anything Daisy McNamara gets his hands on, she’s so skilled.
That’s it for me! If you feel like giving me a tip (or buying an Inn Beween sticker! I have those!) I’d be much obliged.
See you next week!

Imagine the double heartbreak, the horrid destruction of Phoenix Wright if Miles Edgeworth had been the prosecutor (instead of Winston Payne) during his trial for murder.
Tumblr media
First, his baby boyfriend who used to defend him, believe in justice and be nice with him does this time everything make him look like a criminal and a villain, just like the other children and the teacher long ago,
Feenie still has to lie and agree with that despite his breaking heart to protect his girlfriend Dahlia,
Then, he discovers he did all that for nothing because Dahlia is a heartless, psychopathic murderer who gives no shit about people, let alone about him, who never loved him, always used and manipulated him...
He thought these two people loved him while they actually never gave a shit about him to the extent they don't care if he's killed, and while they only see him as a nuisance.
Aaaand... it would have resulted in Phoenix Wright wanting to become a defense attorney out of a pure wish of vengeance against Edgeworth!
In an alternate universe, both Phoenix and Miles would seek personal victory and be driven by hate and revenge.

sometimes I'm like "everything would be so horrid and bad and scary and the worst if marble hornets was real and I was there and i had the Operators disease and stuff. I wouldn't wish that on any real person." and other times I'm like "everything would be so much simpler and more fun and better and cooler if marble hornets was real and I was there and i had the Operators disease and stuff. I wish tim wright and jay merrick and brian thomas and alex kralie were all real and we could run around trying to escape slenderman and kill each other together."

Tim Wright fluff headcanons
-tim Wright obsessed 🙀 anon
Tim fluff headcannons!
WAHOO! finally going to try to get back into the swing of writing now that im no longer as sick (still fighting off the tail end of my horrid allergies, but otherwise im feeling good! hella tired though) might be a little all over the place//shorter than usual given that i have hardly written all week so my funky flow is all.... raaah! TToTT
Tumblr media
i was going to say hes an early bird and sometimes he makes you breakfast, but honestly i can also see him sleeping in.. until the later hours of the morning/bordering on noon... also he doesnt look like a breakfast person. probably smokes and drinks a coffee in the mornings on the rare occasion he wakes up early... though perhaps he wakes up early on purpose to make you something on occasion? shrugs
looks like he can make a mean pancake tbh, cant explain why maybe its the admins envy seeping through because they struggle with pancakes/making pretty pancakes but-
enjoys quieter evenings with you. actually enjoys those calmer days in general. likes staying at home when he doesnt have work or other obligations, usually sitting on the couch letting himself just. relax and exist
i think he would be protective of you, even if this takes place post... everything.. hes lost so much and so much shit has happened and hes not about to have you add to that list. makes sure to check in on you and ask what you were up to while you were out, probably even lightly scolds/fusses over you if you somehow got hurt (from a simple scrape to anything broken).. probably keeps you in bed
but also... i can see him not totally babying you.. stern, but not overbearing if that makes sense?
sometimes melts into your hands if you cup his face, might give you a look if you mess around with his sideburns... doesnt pull away, though
sometimes lets you borrow his shirts, will not take any bs though if you decide to not return his possessions when he asks for them back (difference between you missing him/liking the piece and you not having any real intention to return his belongings)
isnt too terribly tall or short (for characters that are played by real people i tend to base their heights off the actor, looks like tim is roughly 5'7 according to google) so sharing clothes is a common enough occurrence if you're in his height range + dont have to worry about his clothes being extremely huge on you/hang off of you unless you're considerably shorter
... i do think he would offer to buy you matching clothes in your size if you want to match with him, though
i dont see tim being much of a ring guy... but if you guys want to have a matching thing to represent whatever (engagement, marriage, general matching for whatever, ect ect ect really any reason) then bracelets may be your go to ! though i can also see tim wearing a ring around his neck (with a chain, you know?) if you insist on keeping things in that vein more traditional (also admin just loves rings on chains)

Honestly since I liked how you did the fusions last time here’s something 🌙 (I don’t have access to that other moon from the ask game) have fun. For bonus characters: Yakou, Shinigami, Kaede, Nagito, Kyoko, Susato, Maya, Trucy, Rayfa.
(For this ask game)
I assume you mean giving your fusions sleep headcanons? If so, I'll give it my best shot! And I'll also try my hand at a few of the extra characters ya listed.
Metatron - Goes to sleep normally but wakes up in the strangest positions and acts like nothing happened. He could be hanging from the ceiling upside down but it won't get in the way of making sure he gets his morning cup of coffee.
Eros - Absolutely horrid sleep schedule; he will make any excuse not to sleep and his friends despise his stubbornness. Covers up his eyebags with makeup.
Yuki - Very vivid and lucid dreamer. Their favorite dreams are when they feel like they're walking on clouds and can view the world from above.
Tsukiyomi - His most common sleeping position is scrunching up into a ball. It helps preserve heat and provides an instinctual sense of safety radiating from Ryunosuke's half.
Icarus - Can fall asleep standing up. He never tells anyone he can, so there are times where he'll suddenly fall asleep while walking with someone--scaring them--which in turn startles Icarus. Lose-lose situation.
Yakou Furio - I've probably mentioned this before but he usually sleeps during the day and stays up all night. The only reason he changed his sleep schedule was because of the detectives' arrival.
Shinigami - She doesn't ever need to sleep, but she likes the relaxing feeling it brings. While she's in a pact, she can sometimes see glimpses into her master's lost memories masquerading as dreams.
Kaede Akamatsu - The definition of an early bird, and she makes sure anyone in her vicinity wakes up at the same time. If she's gonna have her breakfast at six in the morning then you'll have it too!
Nagito Komaeda - Sleeps in random bursts throughout the day. Probably listens to ASMR to help calm his mind so he has an easier time resting.
Kyoko Kirigiri - Used to sleep on her back, which would cause her to snore a lot. Ever since she found out about her snoring, she instead sleeps on her side even if it isn't as comfortable.
Susato Mikotoba - It would be unwise to share a bed with her cause she will make sure you don't even get a square inch of the bed to yourself. She will hog the blankets and kick you off the mattress in her sleep. Don't test her.
Maya Fey - Perfectly remembers almost all of her dreams, no matter how ridiculous or cryptic. She's also a sleeptalker.
Trucy Wright - She sleepwalks on rare occasions, spooking Phoenix whenever he stays up too late. Likes resting on the couch while watching TV.
Rayfa Padma Khura'in - Always sleeps with her staff close to her side. Like keeping a pistol under your pillow but instead it's a long pole sticking out on both sides that keeps bumping against the nightstand.

On Professor Layton Vs Pheonix Wright
No spoilers, but I talk about PWPL for a long time under the cut.
The most frustrating part of Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton is the way it treats its lead characters. The two do their jobs well, Phoenix is the same goofy, down on his luck lawyer he always is, and Layton is as charismatic and clever as you'd expect, but there in lies the problem. Neither character is really explored to any real degree beyond what's already been established. And I get it; dubiously canon crossover made by two disagreeing companies designed to be an entrypoint into both series. It's better to play things safe, not change too much, and use the best parts of both series against each other. And to be fair, they do that with aplomb. The AA and PL character designs mesh beautifully together, especially after the hard work unifying the main characters. The Puzzles are an excellent addition to the investigation segments, and the court cases do a great job dredging out the minutia of the larger than life story and setpieces.
But Layton is a man with far too much intrigue and nuance to just be the confident windfall, and if there's one thing the Ace Attorney Franchise is good at, it's nuance.
Professor Hershel Layton is a man defined by three things: his gentlemanly demeanor, his love of puzzles, and his willingness to always lend a hand. But the Layton of Lore and the Layton we play as are two subtly different men. Hershel is truly a gentleman, no doubt about it, but he's cautious, aloof, and reserved. He won't meddle in matters that don't interest him or call upon him in the first place. He also never speaks of his past or his family. We know how secretive he is about his lost love, and how he becomes estranged from his children in the near future. This speaks of a man afraid, one who wants with all his heart to be always there, yet frequently is one moment too late. One who can be relied upon, but who ends up falling just short. One who strives to shoulder the burden of others, but ends up taking the praise as well.
A man who strives to be Phoenix Wright.
Phoenix is known to be a bumbling mess of a man, who wears his heart on his sleeve, hinges his bets on bluffs, and is responsible for overturning law and order in his country. Yet the Phoenix we play as isn't that man, despite what he thinks. He's somebody who knows people well, and can tell when someone is innocent, and will put his own life and reputation on the line if it means protecting that, even against his own better judgement. He's a man whose bluffs are more thought out than the carefully constructed alibis of men with more power and time than he'll ever hope to have. He's a man who overturned law, not through excess trust or gullibility, but his willingness to call out corruption while protecting as many people as possible from the fallout of his actions. He couldn't have begun to change things the way he did were it not for the trust and love others put in him, or his dedication to the truth above all else. Phoenix Wright has, without fail, shown himself to be someone to fall back on. Someone who will shoulder your burdens, hell, someone who will take the consequences of your mistakes and victimhood onto himself if it means making sure you can wake up happier three days from now, and refuses to let it go until justice is served. He takes the blame for the Dark Age of Law not because nobody else could; it's easy to point to Gavin, Gant, and Karma, but because nobody else can. He will carry the consequence of horrid people for the rest of his life, egg on his face (or coffee), trudging through hell until a better tomorrow comes, all the while thriving against odds stacked so far against him it's a miracle he's even alive.
That is the man Hershel Layton longs to be, the man he goes out of his way to become every day of his life, and the man Phoenix Wright is by simply being his own goofy, bumbling, easily panicked self. It could be said that, for as soft and kind as Layton is, his drive to be a gentleman distances himself from being the protector he wants to be. For as brilliant as he can be, it doesn't help much when he doesn't have the answer. With all the time he spends trying to help others, he never lets himself move on from, or share, his own pain.
And that's why Luke needs to be framed for murder.
Imagine: a situation that Layton cannot deal with. One he couldn't expect. Set it up so he sees Luke holding the bloody weapon in the body of the scared victim. So caught in the moment he just can't put together any other alternative, try as he might. That's where Phoenix comes in. Immediately knowing Luke wouldn't do such a thing, he takes the case before a case can be made, even as Luke second guesses himself and Layton is sent to testify. He's made to put together evidence pointing directly to Luke's guilt. And just as all seems lost, he turns the question on its head, asks why Luke can't be guilty, and that's when he asks Layton for help with one thing; a puzzle. By reframing this impossible situation into Hershel's field of expertise, removing all elements of trauma and impossibility, Layton reorients himself, adjusts his testimony, and slowly the truth begins to unravel. Press after press, puzzle after puzzle, piece after piece, and just as a dead end seems to be in sight, who else should interject but the real murderer, panicking from how close they've gotten, pointing out the logical flaw, in turn outing himself as the true killer to Phoenix and, more importantly, Hershel.
And you do not hurt Hershel's friend.
A duel of words breaks out (likely a game/framing mechanic unique to this sequel) where Layton takes command of the conversation and trial, pressing the Murderer further and further into a corner until, at one point, he slips. Layton backs off and confidently hands the floor back to Phoenix, who immediately presents the evidence that contradicts the pressed statement. The prosecutor has to object to a confession made out of duress, but at this point, the damage to the alibi is done, and the Murderer can't weasel his way out any more. One more round of testimony, and one more puzzle to present a piece of evidence, and the case is closed.
Afterwards, Layton can't help but cry as he hugs Luke, realizing the man who had been put down all game, whose made himself out to be a fool and jumped to harebrained conclusions to just barely be proven right, was the man who not only saved them, but the man he aspired to be like his whole life. Someone who can shoulder the pain of others until it's light enough to carry. Someone who accepts his own past, and lets it guide him forward without weighing him down. Someone who can stare defeat, even death, in the eyes, panicking all the while, then turn around, point his finger, and demands one more answer, over and over until the truth has come out. Someone who can solve even the most impossible of puzzles, when all he has to go on is a hunch, and trust that it can be done. (I'd also like to foreshadow this by having the first puzzle on Wright's side be a Sudoku puzzle, specifically, one where you have to take a leap of faith at turn one to solve, trial and error-ing the first move with little penalty).
Basically, a game where Phoenix is on the back foot and Layton can support him is great, but a finale where Layton is in a no-win scenario, and Phoenix can see him through by bringing out what Layton can do best, that would be excellent.

~017 info sheet~
Real name: Daya Anand
Tag number: 017
Gender: male
Age: 21
Ethnicity: indian-american
Physical appereance: 017 is extremely lanky, his whole body appears elongated because of some experiments conducted in the facility he was in, this has caused him to have problems with his posture and chronic pain.
The man has black eyes, the right one twitches often, long messy blond hair and dull skin. It also appears that his cheeks and mouth have been ripped of; almost his whole body is covered in all kinds of scars.
Height: 6'5ft (1,98m)
Birth date: 13/07/94
Birth place: Amarillo, Texas
Diagnosis: autism, BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), psychosis
Status: has been declared as dead, is now hiding from the authorities
Family: Eshwar Anand (alive), Harper Anand (alive)
Friends: Eyeless Jack, Toby(?), Tim Wright/Masky, Nina the Killer, Jayus, JJ
Enemies: Jeff the Killer, Slenderman, Carol Stewart, Dr. Smiley, Executioner
Voice claim: Stalker - Lacey's wardrobe
Backstory:
Daya was a pretty regular boy: average grades, average home life, average social life, average everything.
At 15, the boy experienced a sudden change in behavior; he became reckless, often committed small crimes such as shoplifting or vandalizing walls with the help of his friends, he started studying less and started snapping at everyone around him.
Three years later Daya began losing the contact he had with the outside world, he dropped out of school, stopped talking with friends and family and locked himself in his room for days on end.
This caused him to become more paranoid, he heard people murmur in his ears and saw shadows in the back of his eyes.
After a while, Daya started experiencing delusions, the most frequent one being that "someone" was after him and he needed to escape from it. So, the young man ran away from home.
He planned to go in another state and "start his new life"; as he was sitting at a  bus station, he met Carol: Carol was a middle aged woman, whose attention got caught by his incoherent mumbling and panicked look.
She offered him to stay at her home, as long as he did a few housework for her.
Seeing that as an opportunity to finally escape, Daya accepted.
A few months passed, the man started noticing how little time Carol spent home, she always said it was because of her job but she never told him what her job was.
One day, out of curiosity, Daya looked through her studio in hope to find something that would have helped him know more about who Carol really was.
What he found there horrified him: the drawers were full of files describing weird experiments, along with pictures of said experiments.
Obviously concerned, Daya tried to call the police, but they didn't believe his claims.
Carol was informed by one of her neighbors that the police had been called on her house; she was furious. Daya tried to say that he had accidentally called the wrong number, but she knew he was lying.
After that event, Carol had no other choice but to lock him up in a place she knew he wouldn't cause any trouble in: the facility where she worked.
Years passed in that horrid building. Daya, who had been labelled as "017", was now only an empty shell of what he used to be.
He was tired of this. He wanted everything to end.
So, one night, he snapped.
The man killed every living being in that lab, he didn't bother to make it quick, they didn't deserve it, they caused so much pain to so many people and it was time they got what they deserved.
When Carol came back to the facility the next morning, she was met with the sight of blood covering the hallways and corpses scattered everywhere around the building.
Suddenly, she heard a scream coming from one of the rooms and suddenly rushed over to check who it was. There, she saw him: 017 was brutally killing one of the last doctors left, she watched in horror as the man continued stabbing the corpse even when it showed no signs of being alive.
The woman immediately pulled him away and threw him on the ground, before he could do anything she stomped repeatedly on his chest, until he was left coughing blood.
Carol was about to kill him, but seeing the pained look in his eyes as he passed out made her feel some kind of pity.
Before she could change her mind, Carol brought 017's unconcious body at the edge of a nearby forest and left the facility one last time, making sure no one else saw that cursed building ever again.

This is quite a long read, but thanks for sticking 'til here!

Word count: 1.3 k
Minors DNI
Chapter 1: Limbo
“In the right manner they adored not God; And among such as these am I myself for such defects, and not for other guilt, Lost are we and are only so far punished, That without hope we live on in desire.” Dante Alighieri: Inferno, Canto IV.
Tumblr media
Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo, santificado sea tu nombre, venga nosotros tu reino…
Élide was born and raised in Guadalajara, México, the most religious state in her country. From a very young age she was thought to kneel in front of a cross and beg for forgiveness, a habit that seems unable to break, even now, in her early twenties.
hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo, danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día…
She remembers the very first time she attempted to flee from Jesus’ claws, she was 7, and a very caring kid. One day, after leaving school, she found a small bird dying in the grass after being attacked by a stray cat, she cradled him in her small hands, and with teary eyes she made everything in her power to try to save the animal, but she was unsuccessful. She arrived later that day with her mother, and with clenched fists she pleaded for an answer as to why the Lord was so cruel with animals and allowed them to be take away in such a horrid manner. Her mother screamed at her and made her repent of insulting God like that, kneeling and begging for forgiveness until her knees bled. She never asked that kind of questions to her mother again.
perdona nuestras ofensas, como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden…
The second, and last time, was when her mother died in a car accident on her 18th birthday. That day she was left alone with a mortgage to pay and a white rosary, the same rosary that her mother pray with every single night. She always wondered what her mother asked for, maybe it was answers, or enlightenment, perhaps it was only money…
no nos dejes caer el la tentación, y libranos del mal...
Élide thinks is funny how life turned out for her. A simple literature teacher in the university of Tuscaloosa, a quiet life for a quiet girl. She keeps her past buried beneath books and graded papers. Her mother’s rosary safely tucked under her floral dresses. Her bruised knees being a permanent reminder of religious devotion.
Amén.
Tumblr media
Her house is silent when she returns from the market. Sore bones cracking beneath the weight of the shopping bags she is carrying, she sets them on the table and quietly makes her way towards her bathroom.
The water is boiling hot when she enters the tub, her muscles tensing at the uncomfortable sensation, yet she enters until her chest is under the water. Slowly, her body begins to relax, and her mind drifts somewhere else, a far away place where soft linen bed sheets welcome her in a warm embrace. She stays there until her fingers are wrinkly and the water turns cold.
She gets out of the shower and grabs her white towel, softly patting her body with it until there are just a few water drops remaining. The wooden floor cracks beneath her feet on her way towards her room, the sound still being able to unnerve her, even after 3 years of living in the same place.
The sweet smell of honey and gardenias greeted her upon entering her bedroom, she takes a quick sniff and smiles, she likes when things smell nice. Her gaze wanders around her room, stopping when they reach the green, worn, doors of her wardrobe, she strolls towards it and pries it open. Scanning her many clothes, she settles for her square neckline, white dress; and her pair of white lace underwear. She gets dress unhurriedly, taking her time and enjoying herself. She puts her favorite apricot lotion on, some deodorant and a few wisps of chamomile perfume.
Pleased with herself, she makes her way towards her vanity, her reflection stares back at her when she arrives to the medium-sized mirror that’s haphazardly hanging from her wall. She sits in front of it, and grabbing her silver comb, she begins brushing her hair, a familiar melody coming out of her lips in broken whispers. She keeps combing her locks until her wrist begins to throb, she settles her brush gently on the furniture, and with a last glance at the mirror, she walks to the door, briefly stopping to put on her slippers.
She decides to stroll to her kitchen in order to make herself a cup of hot chocolate, when a loud rumble disturbs the silent, Élide jumps faintly at the harsh sound. She takes a moment to compose herself and resumes her walking without a second thought. The sporadic pit-pat of the rain creates a macabre symphony inside her house, chilling her ever so slightly.
A quick reminder interrupts her thoughts, she suddenly remembers that she left her clothes hanging outside to air dry. She swiftly march towards the door, grabbing a red cardigan on her way.
The wind is blowing strongly when she finally leaves her house, water droplets stain her cheeks and nose, making her slightly uncomfortable. With quick, short steps, she walks towards the clothesline, the once white and baby pink laundry is now stained. She groans to herself, knowing that she will have to wash them once again. As she was about to enter her house, a faint noise makes her stop death in her tracks. For a moment, she tries to convince herself that it’s just a wounded animal, but deep down, she knows it’s not. She is hesitant to keep walking, but it’s in her nature to help people, so without even realizing it, her feet begin to carry her to the origin of the sound.
The sound of the dry leaves crunching beneath her covered feet is muffled by the storm. She squints her eyes when a blurry figure appears in her field of vision.
“Hello?,” she yells. “Do you need any help?”
The mysterious figure seems to freeze in his spot, frantically trying to stand up. Élide keeps walking, trying to reach the person before they hurt themselves any further. The thunder roaring high in the sky, making her believe that God was angry about something.
“It’s alright, i don’t want to hurt you”, she tries to calm down the person, now being able to distinguish the figure better. It’s a man, with short, brown hair and a mustard yellow hoodie. “What happened?”, she asks, not really looking for an answer, but rather trying to see if the man was conscious enough to form a coherent sentence. He doesn’t say anything, but he tries to stand up, failing miserably when a sharp pain in his abdomen makes him sit back down. “Can I take a look?”, she looks at him with pleading eyes. He studies her, nodding after a moment. She quickly kneels beside him, her shaky hands find the hem of his blood soaked hoodie, and with a soft movement, she raises it enough to take a look at his wound. “It’s not that deep, but it’s large, and you are losing a lot of blood,”, she peers at his face thought her wet eyelashes. "I have bandages and alcohol in my house maybe I can help you.” her voice is barely audible at the end on the sentence.
The unknown man settles his eyes on her, his gaze is intense, making her feel small. “Alright…” his voice is strong and hoarse. She quickly pulls herself up, her knees buckling after being kneeled for quite some time. She silently offers him her hand, and he takes a long breath before accepting her offer.
They walk together to the wooden cottage while the sky keeps warning her about the imminent danger lying besides the man that she so eagerly wants to help, but she ignores it. She ignores the fact that by letting the man enter her house, she is also letting in endless more terrors, not only to her home, but to her life. She ignores the fact that the blood that stains his hands is mainly from other people. And she also ignores the fact that those stains will slowly reach her too.

Anne, of late, had not been without her suspicions that Diana was proving false to the melancholy Byronic hero of her early dreams. But as “things seen are mightier than things heard,” or suspected, the realization that it was actually so came to her with almost the shock of perfect surprise. This was succeeded by a queer, little lonely feeling . . . as if, somehow, Diana had gone forward into a new world, shutting a gate behind her, leaving Anne on the outside.
“Things are changing so fast it almost frightens me,” Anne thought, a little sadly. “And I’m afraid that this can’t help making some difference between Diana and me. I’m sure I can’t tell her all my secrets after this . . . she might tell Fred. And what can she see in Fred? He’s very nice and jolly . . . but he’s just Fred Wright.”
It is always a very puzzling question . . . what can somebody see in somebody else? But how fortunate after all that it is so, for if everybody saw alike . . . well, in that case, as the old Indian said, “Everybody would want my squaw.” It was plain that Diana did see something in Fred Wright, however Anne’s eyes might be holden. Diana came to Green Gables the next evening, a pensive, shy young lady, and told Anne the whole story in the dusky seclusion of the east gable. Both girls cried and kissed and laughed.
“I’m so happy,” said Diana, “but it does seem ridiculous to think of me being engaged.”
“What is it really like to be engaged?” asked Anne curiously.
“Well, that all depends on who you’re engaged to,” answered Diana, with that maddening air of superior wisdom always assumed by those who are engaged over those who are not. “It’s perfectly lovely to be engaged to Fred . . . but I think it would be simply horrid to be engaged to anyone else.”
“There’s not much comfort for the rest of us in that, seeing that there is only one Fred,” laughed Anne.

What If…? - Season 2 (2023) review
Tumblr media
So, is Jeffrey Wright like the new Morgan Freeman? You can get the man to read a phonebook (do those still exist?!) and it would sound soothing and delightful.
Plot: The second season of the American animated anthology series What If...?, based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name, explores alternate timelines in the multiverse that show what would happen if major moments from the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe occurred differently.
I enjoyed the first season. That being said you could tell from the get-go Marvel did not really know what to do with the premise, as the episodes of the first season were mostly animated summaries of the previous MCU films, with a detail or two changed to justify The Watcher’s presence. Fortunately, it looks like the team behind the show has gotten the hang of it for the second installment, with the new season of the series showcasing a much needed improvement when it comes to multiversal exploration.
This second time around the show seems to take a different approach, by opting for combining the premise of two seemingly unrelated MCU movies to create new stories. Such as an episode that merges together characters and elements of Thor and Thor: Ragnarok with the setting of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Or not even limiting itself to the MCU, in the case of the season premiere, sticking Nebula into Blade Runner. Yep, I know the setting is Xandar, but, like, c’mon - it’s Blade Runner MCU Edition. And this new strategy has allowed What If…? to deliver better episodes this time around.
What I really enjoyed about this season was that it has something that the current MCU live-action stuff really lacks - being fun and different. The movies and Disney+ shows have all become so one-note and limited in trying to take any risks, whilst this show basically allows us to see the MCU through different genres and perspectives. This season you get to enjoy an Iron Man 2-era Die Hard spoof and a Marvel flavoured Death Race/Ben-Hur, both of which were awesome, and then there’s the unique Kahhori episode where Marvel introduces its first indigenous superhero - a Mohawk woman who is empowered by the Tesseract Captain Marvel-style. It’s all fun stuff and it’s nice seeing the MCU not take itself too seriously and allow itself to relax and simply enjoy the madness so to speak.
In terms of negatives - I really do love the show’s animation style, when it’s showcasing people fighting one another. That stuff looks really cool, however it does get a tad horrid for when people are just talking, as it looks weird. Also, the Captain Carter character. What If…? is at its best when it goes random, so it is a little frustrating and repetitive when they keep shoehorning this one multiverse character into everything. Captain Carter appears in 3 episodes this season, and she’s an okay character, but she’s nowhere as interesting and engaging as the show makes her out to be and as such I found her inclusion tiring, no matter how likeable Hayley Atwell’s voice acting is. Even her own standalone episode this season about fighting the Hydra Stomper was just a rehash of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Black Widow but less compelling. As for the rest of the voice cast, a lot of the live-action cast members return to voice their characters, and as such you can tell some of them aren’t as comfortable in the voice acting booth, however this season’s stand-outs were Cate Blanchett, Devery Jacobs, Karen Gillan, Jeff Goldblum and of course Jeffrey Wright - gosh darn it his voice is wonderful!
Overall I believe I enjoyed this season more than the first, as the show seems to be really finding its own groove, so I am looking forward to seeing what kind of craziness they’ve cooked up for the already confirmed upcoming season 3, and hearing more of Mr Wright saying those two special words… “what if?”
Overall score: 7/10
