Hushed Whispers - Part Two
Pairing: Tom Riddle x Reader
Summary: Your meetings with Tom have worn both your patience and your mental stability thin. You can’t get this language right. You can’t get your homework right. You can’t get anything right. With your frustrations growing, and Tom enabling every single self-depreciating doubt that comes to mind, you’re sure that you’re going to crack. And your breaking point might just be the vast cavern under the school that Tom claims is simply ‘a practice room’.
Word Count: 4.4k
Warnings: Tom uses manipulate, manwife, mansplain to the fullest extent possible, language, mentions of petrification
A/N: The long awaited and very delayed part two! (Holy shit it’s here). Thank you everyone for the huge amount of support on the first chapter I did not expect it to do as well as it did! Special thanks to the one and the only @lilmaymayy for being my absolute favorite person and Beta reader ever.
Masterlist          Part One
Tumblr media
You’d had the sneaking suspicion for weeks, but today confirmed it. Tom Riddle was undoubtedly trying to kill you. Or he was trying to get you to kill him. Either way, someone was dying. Merlin, you hoped it was you.
Everyday for the past month Riddle had forced you to meet with him in the small hours of the morning to go over the basics of Parseltongue. He berated you when you slurred your pronunciation, still rubbing sleep out of your eyes at 3 am. He sneered at you when you were unable to pick up on the apparent “distinct differences” between words such as ‘toward’ and ‘towards’. And on top of everything, his lessons were causing a less than satisfactory performance in your classes. Something that your teachers noticed.
You looked down at the detention slip in your hands, nearly burning with rage and frustration. You had fallen asleep in the middle of Potions class, causing your head to land with a resounding thunk on your desk, and your potion to overboil and release a noxious gas that filled the classroom in mere minutes. All of which could have been avoided if you hadn’t had to meet up with Riddle at three in the bloody morning.
A hand grasped your shoulder just as the edges of the slip began to smoke, knocking you out of your mental debate over whether or not it would be acceptable to jinx Riddle considering the conditions. You turned your head, meeting the eyes of your incredibly concerned roommate.
“Are you okay?” she asked, dropping her hand once she knew you were paying attention. “That wasn’t like you at all.”
“Yeah I’m fine, just really tired.” You offered her a weak smile, deciding to shove the offensive piece of parchment into your pocket for now. “Thanks for asking though Katherine. I mean, especially considering your last Herbology score.” You pulled a face, scrunching up your nose slightly. “Honestly, I think I should be the one worried about you.”
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, lightly shoving your shoulder before crossing her arms. “How was I supposed to know that the Wiggentree would protect you from dark creatures, and not cause uncontrollable laughter?”
It was your turn to laugh, turning backwards as you walked so that you could fully look at her. “By doing the homework?”
“But it literally sounds like it would make you laugh! Even the name sounds funny!”
You laughed again, tilting your head back and forcing yourself to swallow a quip about Katherine’s less than studious mannerisms. You’d bring up a reduction in lessons to Riddle tonight, for now you just needed to focus on helping Katherine pass Herbology.
-
Quite unfortunately, three am rolled around quicker than you’d anticipated. The dark circles under your eyes had become bags, and you had to actively focus on walking, no longer able to trust your legs to carry you. No amount of caffeine or muggle heavy metal could fix this much sleep deprivation, and you should know. You’d already tried both solutions.
“You’re late.”
You had to physically hold back a groan of annoyance as Riddle’s perfectly grating voice cut through the air.
“Kind of sucks for you, doesn’t it,” you replied with a huff, making your way over to the windowsill that had become your unofficial meeting place.
“Need I remind you that I have nothing to gain from these lessons?” His voice turned cold as he picked an invisible piece of lint off of his shoulder. “You, however, have everything to lose.”
“Thank you oh selfless one,” you replied with mock respect, clutching your hands over your heart to seal the drama you were hoping to convey. “I would be lost without you, left to wither and die on my own! How could I survive without being oh so sleep deprived?”
His upper lip curled into a sneer, and you were reminded quite quickly as to just how terrifying Riddle could truly be. “You were the one who insisted on being discreet. If you have a problem with our lessons, you can find yourself another teacher.” His tone issued a sense of finality, and you realized that there would be no room for arguing.
“ . . I’m sorry,” you replied softly, turning your head away from him and hugging your arms. For some reason, angering him made you feel small, incompetent. Like you were always the one in the wrong. “It’s just that these frequent meetings have affected my class work, not to mention my social life. I can barely keep up.”
“That is none of my concern,” he said stiffly, holding up a hand to silence you as you opened your mouth to issue a retort. “We are behind schedule as it is. Come; today’s lesson includes a change in scenery.”
And so you walked behind Riddle, silently fuming as you mulled over a list of jinxes in your head, and not for the first time. Arguing with him was like yelling at a brick wall. You could do everything in your power to make him see reason, and he would still find a way to push back and point out your flaws. It was meaningless to even attempt to go up against him; but still, you had persisted. Which, didn’t necessarily mean that you had ever won an argument. The two weren’t exactly correlated.
Bringing yourself out of your musings, you realized that you had almost ran into the boy you were mentally cursing. He had stopped walking at some point, and you hurried to put some distance in-between yourself and him. Being too close to him felt dangerous, although you were just starting to realize that nearly every interaction with Riddle had left you with a curling sense of fear in your stomach. You hoped it was just your imagination.
Peering over his shoulder, you drew your eyebrows together in confusion. “Is this . . the girls' lavatory?” Why on Earth would Riddle choose this as a new location for your lessons?
He nodded his head, offering you no explanation as he pulled open the door and entered the room.
Shrugging, you followed him, letting the door close behind you and hoping that Filch didn’t hear the slam that echoed the corridors. You watched, thoroughly weirded out, as Riddle examined the sinks that lay in the center of the room, dragging his fingers over the pipes in a way that let you know he was searching for something.
“Look,” you started, hands raised in the air and poised to make calming motions as Tom would no doubt blow a fuse over your (only partially sarcastic) suggestion that for once the two of you just study in an empty classroom. Unfortunately, you were not permitted to continue, watching with barely concealed annoyance as he held up a finger to silence you. He gestured towards the pipe in front of him and uttered the most ridiculous sentence that you had ever heard the prefect say.
“Tell it to open.”
You froze, jaw hanging halfway open as your gaze bounced between the sinks pipe, to Riddle, and then back again. “Tell the pipe, to open?”
“Yes.”
“The pipe?”
“Yes, the pipe.”
“Riddle, do you need to go to the infirmary? Are you okay? Blink twice if you’re doing this against your will.”
His gaze narrowed and your stomach turned to ice. “Do you want to learn control or not?”
“This,” you replied, taking a few steps forward and gesturing towards the pipe in question. “Is not a snake. This is a pipe. This is plumbing.”
Steadily, without lifting his gaze from yours, he pointed a finger towards the base of the pipe, pressing it against the smallest engraving of a snake that you had ever seen. It was almost as if he was saying “There’s your snake you twat.” In fact, you could almost hear his voice mimicking those exact words, clear as crystal.
“Oh for fucks sake,” you muttered, rolling your eyes at the ceiling and dragging your hands down your face. “Fine. You want me to speak to the plumbing? I’ll speak to the plumbing.” With a huff, you placed yourself directly in front of the pipe, stooping down so that you were at eye-level with the snake. “Sewage,” you grumbled to yourself. “I am talking to sewage.”
Regardless, you decided to at least try to do what Riddle asked. Closing your eyes, you concentrated on the word that you wanted to say, letting it come to you naturally and rolling it on your tongue before finally attempting to speak it. You wish that you could say you got it on the first try, and that the lessons were paying off after all. But the truth is that what came out was a jumbled mess of hisses with too many curves and no edges. It was indistinguishable. Even for you. You cringed as you heard a foot tapping impatiently behind you.
“Again.” A pause. “And this time, make sure it’s actually a word.”
You could do this. You took a deep breath before attempting the word again. Another mess of jargon. Too many edges this time. Not enough curves. Merlin, this language was going to be the death of you. A third try. A nice mix of everything, but it sounded more like ‘unlock’ with a heavy accent. Still, it was closer than the first two.
“Again.”
If Riddle kept interrupting you when you were doing your best to concentrate you were going to swing your fist right at his perfectly turned up nose with malicious intent that would make the prisoners in Azkaban swoon. On the fourth attempt you didn’t even try, letting the letters and vowels fall flat on your tongue.
“That was pathetic.”
You rounded on him, seething. “Your interruptions and constant distractions are not helping me. Either stay quiet or piss off.”
His eyebrows lowered slightly, and you steeled yourself for a quick and concise comeback that would no doubt leave you wallowing in self-pity for weeks on end. Instead, he surprised you. Simply nodding his head before taking a step back.
Nodding to him in turn, you faced the pipe once more, doing your best to ignore the fact that Tom had just done something very not Tom-like and focus on the infuriating task at hand. “Merlin, why is this language always easier to speak when I’m not thinking about it,” you whispered to yourself.
“Might I suggest visualizing?” You glanced behind yourself to see Riddle with his hands clasped behind his back. “Unless you would like me to ‘piss off’, as you so eloquently put it.” He raised an eyebrow and your face flushed.
You hadn’t meant it that way. It was supposed to come across as ‘if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say anything at all’. Unfortunately, he had taken direct offense to it, and was now using it against you. And, despite your better judgment, you were letting him. “I’m sorry,” you replied softly, awkwardly turning to face him with your hands folded over one another in front of you. You felt like a child. “Would you mind elaborating?”
He let you sit in silence for a moment, and then three, before deciding to grace you with his reply. “As it is, you are looking at the snake as something stagnant, inanimate.”
You drew your eyebrows together, confused. “Because it is?”
He released a puff of air through his nose, an action that you decided to interpret as something akin to a groan or a sigh. “Reality is simply what we make of it. You see the snake as a carving, I see it as a living being. And only one of us,” he directed a pointed look at you, “can actually open the doorway.”
You bit down a sarcastic reply, forcing yourself not to tell him that he could open the apparent bloody door himself if he was so proud of it, and instead chose to nod your head. Obedient as ever.
This time, when you told the pipe to open, it obliged, pushing itself back into the wall before the wall itself rotated and turned. You stepped back, surprised, and watched as a gaping passageway opened on the floor where you once stood. You heard a hum of approval from behind you, and watched as Riddle stepped towards the edge of the passage, peering down it with a look of surprise that seemed too well practiced to be true.
“Where does this go?” You asked, hesitant to step any closer to the edge. It’s not that you were scared of heights, afterall you most commonly found solace in the towers that guarded the edges of the castle; it was just that some part of you screamed ‘danger’ when you stared down into the hole. If you concentrated hard enough, you could almost feel something staring back.
“A practice room,” he offered, barely bothering to glance at you. “I came across it by accident, and decided that you might feel more comfortable if we studied somewhere . . secluded.”
You nodded, accepting his answer even though it seemed rehearsed. “And how do we go about entering this practice room?”
Riddle turned to you, raising an eyebrow in amusement before gesturing towards the hole.
You stared at him for a moment longer before realization struck. “Oh fuck no.”
A scream ripped itself from your mouth as you slid down the tunnel, hands pressing against the walls in a desperate attempt to slow yourself down as you took yet another corner at breakneck speed. The sound echoed, bouncing off the walls and back at you as you were finally deposited on the ground below, a curse escaping as you felt sharp rocks digging into your spine and legs.
You managed to clumsily move from the rocks, scraping your hands and knees before finally dragging yourself onto blessedly smooth stone. Only then did you allow yourself to look at your surroundings.
The cave itself was dimly lit by enchanted lanterns on the wall, casting a green glow over the entirety of the room. Attempting to peer down the corridor proved fruitless, and you decided that casting a lumos charm was the best course of action. Unfortunately, the light that the charm gave off also allowed you to see a few specific objects. Such as the pile of rocks that you had landed on that were definitely not rocks and were quite obviously bones.
You sucked in a breath, quickly scampering away from the pile as you resisted the urge to throw up. Further investigation showed that more, neatly stacked bones existed near the edge cavern, and you did not want to dwell on whatever monstrosity had shucked them clean. This was not a study room.
Riddle chose that moment to float effortlessly down the tunnel, arms crossed as he maneuvered around the bones that had acted as your landing pad and touched down on a clear section of the floor.
Your eyes narrowed at him, and you did your best to convince yourself that it was because he had worked a way around sliding down the tunnel, and not because he had seemed to know about the location of the bones ahead of time. Maybe he had just come down here to investigate before he decided to bring you. Make sure that the area was safe and what he was looking for. Yeah, that had to be it. But still, doubt echoed in your mind as you watched him step over a hole in the floor without looking down at it.
“This is not what you said it was,” you spoke, voice stronger than you thought it would be.
“Of course it is,” he replied with a measured level of cool indifference that you had heard on many an occasion. “It’s a practice room, is it not?”
“It looks like a mass grave,” you hissed, finally standing off of the no doubt filthy ground. Honestly you didn’t even want to look at it right now. Even the thought of seeing what bones and assorted trash that you had been sitting on was enough to send a shiver up your spine. “You lied to me.”
Riddle took a moment to think, walking a few paces away from you, taking deep and measured breaths. “If I had said what this truly was, would you have come?” He cut you off before you could reply, continuing on as if he had never intended for you to answer, and maybe he hadn’t. “We are down here, because of you. Because you are too cowardly and too hysterical to fully trust yourself anywhere else. You want someone to complain to? Go look in a mirror. I am done being the object of your frustrations when I have to accommodate for your actions.”
You didn’t know what to say. Weren’t even sure that the words would come to you if need be. He was right, you knew that he was. You probably didn’t even know a fraction of what Riddle may have sacrificed in order to teach you. It was just as possible that these early meetings were getting to him as much as they were getting to you.
But as much as his words made sense, they hurt. They caused an ache to well up inside of you, to settle in the pit of your chest and weigh you down.  You don’t know how he did it. How he twisted words that seemed like they had come straight from your mind, how he made them seem like your own.
“I . .” You struggled with yourself, turning your head away to look down at the floor once more in shame. “I’m sorry.” The apology was whispered, and one glance at your companion would be all that you needed in order to know how utterly unaffected he was by it.
As if you needed any further confirmation, the way that he turned away from you and began walking further into the dark hallway without a second word cemented the thought in your head. Your apology was very much not accepted; but he would not hold it against you at this very moment. Most likely, he would find a way to warp it to his own whim later on in the day, or week, or month really. Riddle had a mind like a steel trap.
As you obediently followed after him like the dog you were feeling like, you imagined all of the ways that his brain could be organized, and how you could throw it all into unbridled chaos. If anything, you assumed his thoughts were collected in something akin to a filing cabinet. A small smile found its way onto your face as you envisioned yourself setting it ablaze.
After a few minutes, and many failed attempts at absolutely eating shit in the potholes that riddled the floor, you stopped behind Tom, staring at yet another dark cavern that lay ahead of you. “It might be due to invest in some sort of light fixture,” you mumbled under your breath.
Tom turned his head towards you slightly and you stilled. You heard something then in the tunnels. Something big.
A chill ran down your spine, raising the hairs on your arms and suddenly making you very alert. The same chill that frightened you in the library so long ago, had alerted you to Riddle’s presence back then. Except Riddle was right next to you. And the shiver along your back was not going away.
Something rough scraped against the walls. A dry, itching sound that had you clutching your wand for dear life. You looked next to you, mouth suddenly turning to ash as you realized Tom was observing you. Watching you. Calm and collected.
“Tom,” you whispered lowly, voice hitching in fright. “What the fuck is down here with us.”
When you woke up the next morning, your head pounding and your roommate throwing your uniform at you in a feeble attempt to get you to hurry the hell up because Bilborough does not like latecomers you thought nothing of it.
When you walked to the Great Hall, legs a little wobbly and hands shaking as they clutched your books to your chest; you brushed it off as morning nerves. Afterall, the last essay that you had turned in to your Transfiguration professor had been shoddy work. You were right to be nervous before his eventual criticisms tore you down a few pegs. You could even chalk it up to being jumpy around the campus after the recent petrification's. Another girl had been found just last night for Godric’s sake. Anyone would be on edge after that.
But when you sat down in class and stared blankly at the feather in front of you, not being able to remember the first step of a basic spell, you knew something was wrong. And when you realized that you couldn’t remember a thing from last night after that bone-gripping fear down in the tunnels had sunk its claws into you, it all clicked into place.
The second you were dismissed, you ran from your class all the way to the Astronomy tower. Your hands were clutching your sides, you were admittedly out of breath, and yeah you may have thrown up in your mouth a little bit from the exertion that your body was most definitely not used to, but you made it. The Astronomy class was just being released and you could see Riddle’s prim and perfect head.
Without a second thought you walked up to him, anger fueling you as you yanked him quite forcefully away from his group of asshole cronies and into a secluded alcove.
He was looking at you like you were crazy for both grabbing him and for daring to do it infront of his friends. If looks could kill, you would be dead. “What, exactly, is the meaning of this.” His voice was cool, measured and even. And his face was flat. That’s how you knew that he was well and truly pissed. He couldn’t even bother to put on a mask.
“How many times?”
“Whatever are you asking?”
“How. Many. Times.”
He rolled his eyes and sighed, looking like he was simply going to walk away. You grabbed his arm and all but threw him back against the wall.
“How many times have you brought me down to those caves and erased my bloody memory Riddle.” You were seething. Hallway lights were flickering near you, shadows were growing darker.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
There it was again. That impassiveness. God how you hated him. “How many times have you had me speak to that pipe? How many times have you watched me scatter at the sight of the bones? Grip your arm when I realized that we were not alone? How many times Riddle!”
“Should I take you to go visit the nurse?” Anyone walking by would simply see a concerned prefect attempting to comfort a fellow classmate. Eyes full with concern, mouth morphed into a frown and eyebrows drawn together. But you knew better. Those eyes were cold. That mouth was 5 seconds away from morphing into a grimace.
“You got sloppy.” You sniffed, stepping back from him, books clutched to your chest. “You got complacent. I don’t know what you had me doing in those tunnels, but I know that you don’t want anyone else to know.”
His face was blank again, eyes slightly narrowed and hands clenching at his sides.
“I wonder what Slughorn would think of his prized pupil lurking in tunnels under the school. I wonder what Dumbledore would think.”
“I wonder what they would think if they knew that they had a Parseltongue in their midst.” His tone was sharp. He wasn’t bluffing.
You stepped closer to him then, eyes narrowed in turn as you leaned in and positioned your mouth right by his ear. “I wonder what they would think if they knew they had two.” You whispered slowly, giving him a moment to truly hear what you were saying before leaning back.
-
“Hey! Hey!” Katherine placed her hands on her knees, doubled over as she looked up at you. “Bloody hell you can run fast.”
You blinked at her, feeling dizzy as you stepped closer. “Um . . Kat? Since when did we have Astronomy in second block?”
A confused frown fell over her face as she straightened, hand still pressed over her cramping side as she stepped towards you. “You tell me. You ran all the way over here. Are you alright? Can you see me okay? And what in Merlin’s name were you talking about with Riddle? And do his eyes really pull you in like two warm pools?”
You blinked. “I was talking with Riddle?”
“Yes?”
You took her arm, turning her back towards the way she had come as you shook your head. “Katherine, are you sure that you’re okay? I don’t even know Riddle, why would I be talking with him?”
“But -”
“Tell me the truth, are you just trying to get out of Herbology?”
“No I swear you-”
“Kat, come on. Just because you accidentally called Professor Bulst ‘mom’ doesn’t mean that you get to bail on her class now. In fact, it means quite the opposite.”
“Merlin’s beard that was one time!”
“It’s okay! It’s probably flattering that you see her as a maternal figure!”
~~~~~~~
Nagini found her way around the crook of his neck, resting her head on Tom’s outstretched hand. She blinked up at him with knowing eyes.
“She served her purpose,” Tom said lightly, placing the Queen’s chess piece face down. “Memory loss charms can be easily undone if need be, and really all I needed was a scapegoat. Her control over the Basilisk was . . . undesirable. She seemed to get worse at it every time.”
He leaned back, staring up at the ceiling as Nagini wound her way onto the chess board, knocking over pieces left and right. “Tonight, we go for the kill. No petrification this time.” He slid his eyes over to the snake and glared. “And I mean that.”
She nodded.
“Make sure that the girl is in the washroom at the appropriate time. It’s time that Hogwarts truly sees just how much of a threat this can be.”
Weekly Update February 9, 2024
The sick has returned. I took my medicine for it this morning but so far it doesn’t seem like it’s gone away, but admittedly my symptoms today could be the result of me having a bad day and it being cold outside, and not necessarily the sick. That’s also why I’m posting this update earlier than usual. If it persists tomorrow I’ll know it’s more surgery side effects, and maybe I’ll message my doctor if it stays throughout the week again. Last week went pretty well so I want to assume this week being messed up was just a fluke. I still got some stuff done, though.
I got a bunch of drawings done, most of them epithet erased and fanart rather than OCs but that’s fine. Fwiw I did get a few more comic pages done, though not one a day like I was hoping. I’ll try another tonight, maybe more if I’m in a good mood. I’m also starting to listen to more music, which should hopefully get inspiration flowing a bit better so I can do more OC art as well.
I still got an animation shaped void I need to fill but haven’t figured out what to do yet. I’d like to try something to music but I gotta get a song done first. So I’ve been trying to work on music but I’ve been so scatterbrained that it’s a bit hard. I’m hoping this weekend I’ll have time, but good chance I’ll try to spend it keeping my mood high instead. I guess I could do some OC animation tests, figure out how clip studio animation works too. Maybe.
Music: been toying with some slow ambient instrumental stuff, and that bigger edm one with the piano I posted a sample of a while ago. Turns out EDM is super easy, so if I can find reasons to keep doing it I will, although admittedly I’m not as big on it as I am on other genres. I’m close to done on that EDM one, partially because it’s supposed to be kinda short. I haven’t touched lyric stuff, I might have to soon though since my congenial medical bs is flaring up again too, and lyrics are luckily something I can do while bedridden. Idk I like how the instrumental is going.
I redid that melody I posted the other day for the ambient track, admittedly didn’t change much but I swapped the third measure out, dropped a few notes, and actually tried it on a lower bpm and with some reverb because I forgot to do that for the samples I posted (whoops), and it sounds fine. I need some other parts for that one still, maybe I’ll use placeholders and just figure out the rest of the instrumentation bc I got that half finished.
Haven’t touched vocaloid again yet. Maybe I’ll make some quick demos so I can understand how tuning works. I’ll probably pick a memey or old song and if I make anything presentable I’ll post it.
Been looking for more VSTs too, I compare it to looking for new brushes whenever you’re dissatisfied with your art. Vital has been good for EDM, basically fixed all my problems for me, again. Also started messing with decentsampler again and it’s probably going to fix my problems when I’m working on that ambient track.
I think this weekend and next week I’ll aim to get some time with the big fancy keyboard and just unload a bunch of recording at once. Force myself to finish shit. Tonight I’d like to as well, but that depends on how bad my homework ends up. And if I get flare ups again. I’m still working on dealing with that condition but I need two or three more surgeries before it’s really going to be gone. And I have to wait for those. I’m not worried about money for now since I’m pretty sure I can get a decent job after I graduate (and at a minimum I can go back to the job I had last summer which I liked and paid pretty well). Right now I don’t have a source of income but I think I’ll be fine, I just need to not spend money, which I’m pretty good at. Next week I’ll focus on music stuff first, throw in some drawings if I can, and keep at those comic thumbnails. Once those are done I’ll start on pages.
Lost in a Cheese Trance
*wakes up*
*looks at internet*
Maybe I should check that book review blog I’m supposed to be working on. Huh, looks like I haven’t updated this book review blog since *shuffles papers* last November?
Tumblr media
Wait, what is it now?
July? Oh. Shit.
I’d like to say my absence was for a good reason. But there wasn’t. I’m just lazy. Plus, there were so many digital advanced review copies for me to choose from and along with those are the already released books that I need to read...that and I just didn’t feel like it. I do that sometimes. One minute I’ll tell myself I’ll write one review a month and the next minute it’s been eight months of “...I’ll get to that later.”
Tumblr media
And I never got to it. Until now! Yay!
(all those crickets and tumbleweeds you’re hearing are because nobody reads this, but I’m going to keep writing these anyway).
If there was any book that could bring me out of my laziness-induced hiatus, it is Sona Movsesian’s hilarious memoir detailing the downfall of her own ambition.
And by that, I mean: The World’s Worst Assistant by Sona Movsesian!
Tumblr media
How does someone who worked so hard to get her foot in the door end up as the World’s Worst Assistant? Keep reading and I’ll show you a brand-new world, one where deadlines are spurned, professionalism is seldom upheld, and you’ll never have to miss an episode of your favorite TV show.
-From the uncorrected copy of The World’s Worst Assistant.
Sona Movsesian is the first to admit she isn’t great at her job. Which is a bit of a problem when you’re the assistant to comedy legend Conan O’Brien.
Tumblr media
Sona is a boss who doesn’t give a single fuck. But she didn’t start out that way. She came into her job as Conan’s assistant as someone eager to do a good job. But, like so many of us, as the years passed, she got comfortable in her job.
Comfortable enough to no longer give a shit.
Tumblr media
Now, before I get into Sona’s book I should explain: I’ve been a fan of Conan O’Brien practically since birth.
Tumblr media
Not only is he responsible for some of the best episodes of The Simpsons, ever, (Marge vs. The Monorail, Homer Goes to College and New Kid on the Block), he’s also my favorite ever Late Night host. Growing up, they’d play last night’s Conan at 6 PM and we’d watch it religiously. In high school, we’d watch the monologue, the post-monologue bit, and then, during the interviews, my dad would try to help me do my math homework. Unfortunately, I’m both easily distracted and terrible at math.
Now, I’m not saying Conan O’Brien is the reason why I did so poorly in math during high school but, I mean...
Tumblr media
Who could possibly focus with that going on in the background?
I still remember being heartbroken when Andy left the original Late Night show, and how elated I was to see him come back for The Tonight Show.
Tumblr media
And as for that debacle, well...let’s just say that was my entire sophomore year of college and I even wrote a term paper about it. I am not kidding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway! I’ve been a Conan fan forever. I have a Late Night shot glass, a Tonight Show T-Shirt, the OG I’m With Coco shirt from back in 2010, and I went to the very first Legally Prohibited from Being Funny On Television Tour show because, lucky for me, it was held in Eugene, Oregon. I mean, major tours almost never stop within driving distance of me, but oh man. I still have merch from that tour, but they’re a bit beat up now (my Team Coco bottle opener has long since lost all its orange lettering so it’s just a plain black bottle opener now) but still.
Fun fact: for roughly half a second you can see actual human me in the Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop documentary waiting outside of the Hult Center. That ticket was the best money I, as a broke college student with exactly zero dollars to spare, ever spent.
Anyway: big Conan fan. Cried when he ended his show on TBS but I listen to Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend every day during my morning commute.
But enough about Conan.
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about the Queen herself: Sona Movsesian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sona has been part of some of the best bits of Conan’s TBS show and on his podcast. If you haven’t seen some of the bits they’ve done together, I highly suggest you stop reading now and watch a few. Or just leave this page altogether, watch the Conan Without Borders they did in Armenia.
As you can see from some of the bits they do together, Conan and Sona exist as foils for one another: Conan is the anxious, highly-strung workaholic, and Sona is the chill assistant who shrugs and goes “eh” and figures everything will work out fine in the end. Hilarity inevitably ensues. Throw in Matt Gourley, the podcast producer who exists somewhere in the middle ground between Conan and Sona, and you’ve got one of the top 50 podcasts ever!
At number 46.
Tumblr media
Honestly, my favorite bits of the podcast are when the trio of Conan, Sona and Matt just BS amongst themselves. Together, the three of them are absolutely hilarious. I’ve always found Conan to be at his most hilarious to be when he’s interacting with others, and Sona and Gourley are perfect foils. Also, listening to them just reminds me so much of me and my siblings talking together - where we’ll banter and rag on each other and make sure one is taken down a peg when they need to be, just as Sona, Conan and Gourley interact with one another. And it’s never mean, either, it’s in that way that you see with siblings - everyone cares about each other, but by God they will poke fun when there is fun to be poked.
Fun to be poked? Sounds disgusting, but whatever. At least I’m writing and not sitting around for eight months going “...yeah, I’ll write another post later...”
What was I talking about?
Oh, right, The World’s Worst Assistant!
Sona’s memoir isn’t just a book about being a terrible assistant. It’s a manifesto against the shitty working conditions lower-level employees face on a daily basis. Sona encourages her readers not to take shit - she uses a pretty apt Human Centipede metaphor to describe how mistreatment in the workplace is often perpetuated: the lowest employees are treated like shit, they eventually get promoted and then they treat those below them like shit…shit rolls downhill, the abused always kick downwards, etc. etc. But, as Sona points out, the way to stop this cycle is to STOP TREATING PEOPLE LIKE SHIT. Employers, quit treating your employees like shit. Employees, quit taking your employers’ shit. It’s not worth it. And, if you’ve taken shit from your employer and got promoted? Don’t immediately start treating those below you like shit.
Tumblr media
Reviewer, you probably aren’t asking, do you have to keep using the word shit?
Yes. Yes I do. If you don’t like it you can leave.
Wait, no, don’t leave! How else will I get people to read this dumb review blog? No! Come back!
Aside from her hilarious, but very, very real take on how bosses often abuse their power when it comes to the staff who work below them, Sona also details the best ways for an assistant to get away with doing as little as possible. As someone who has worked their fair share of admin jobs (my boss referred to me the other day as their “assistant” and I was like...fair...) I am definitely familiar with some of Sona’s methods, but some are just next level. Being able to pull off a nap at work? That is the absolute dream. Alas, my current workplace has no sofas to crash on. Also I don’t believe in sleeping during the day, nighttime is for sleep, sleeping during the day wastes daylight hours that could be spent toiling in the fields. Sorry, my ancestors were all dirt farmers and I’m convinced that this is the reason why I don’t like napping during the day. But having spent so many years having to be up at, like, 4 AM to get to work on time, sometimes you need a nap around noon so you don’t fall asleep during the drive home. Someday I hope to use Sona’s nap-during-work-hours secret. Someday.
If you think that these methods are a sure way to get fired, don’t worry! Sona has a solution for that. She details all the ways you can make yourself indispensable at work while also gathering up all the things you need to make yourself unfireable. Is unfireable a word? There’s no red underline on in my google doc, so it is now. We lowly admin types are often under-paid and neglected, but, as Sona reminds us, our power lies in the fact that we know everything. Credit card numbers, where the good office supplies are kept, all the passwords, everybody’s schedule...of course, we’d never actually use any of this as a weapon, but sometimes it helps to hint that we could. Maybe.
Tumblr media
In all, The World’s Worst Assistant was an absolute joy to read. Sona’s writing is uproariously funny and her stories are incredibly relatable, especially if you (like me) have ever been an admin or someone’s assistant. The only criticism I can think of is that if you come into this book blind, you will have no idea what is going on. You have to be familiar with Conan O’Brien, his shows and his podcast to know a lot of what Sona is talking about - as a lifelong fan, I loved it. However, if you are like “Conan O’Who now?” then you’re probably not going to be too geared up to read a book by his assistant, even if it is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time.
RECOMMENDED FOR: Fans of Conan O’Brien needs a friend, anyone who has ever worked as an assistant or any sort of admin position, anyone who has ever worked in or wanted to work in entertainment.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR: people who have never watched Conan, people with no sense of humor, bosses, people who inherited all the money and have never had to work a day in their life, people who have ever even thought the phrase “Jay Leno is funny”, people who have something against fun and joy.
Chisa [The Princess' Incredibly Busy Day] Part 1
Knock knock
Airi: Chisa-chaaan.
Tumblr media
Chisa: Airi! What’s wrong? You look like you’re about to cry.
Airi: I’m trying to do my homework for home ec, but I’m never gonna finish on time…
Chisa: What do you have to do?
Airi: Embroidery…
Chisa: Okay, bring it here. I’ll see if I can help you.
Airi: There’s more.
Chisa: Like what?
Airi: They’re testing us on somersaults in phys ed tomorrow, but I don’t even know how to do them…
Chisa: Tomorrow?! I don’t know if somersaults are something you can just learn overnight.
Airi: We’ve been so busy with acting lessons, I just haven’t had time…
Chisa: Yeah, those have been pretty tough recently…come to think of it, how’s Yuuki doing with her schoolwork?
Airi: Yuuki-chan said she never brings any schoolwork home.
Chisa: Wow, she actually gets it all done at school? That’s good to hear.
Airi: That’s not it. She said she just throws it down the gutter.
Chisa: Sigh, of course she does. I wouldn’t be surprised if she actually tried telling her teachers her dog ate her homework.
Airi: Chisa-chan, do you happen to be any good at somersaults?
Chisa: I wouldn’t say I’m particularly skilled or anything, but I can more or less do them. Still, it’s probably best if I focus on helping with your embroidery for tonight.
Airi: What do I do…
Chisa: Why don’t you ask Yuuki and Yuzuha for help?
---
Tumblr media
Yuuki: Somersaults, huh? You’re in luck, for I am a master.
Yuzuha: And I’m a master of watching people do them!
Chisa: How do you become a “master” of watching somersaults?
Yuzuha: It’s not just somersaults, I love watching people do all kinds of gymnastics! I think it’s sooo cool.
Chisa: Uh, sure. Okay then, Airi. Yuuki will teach you, and Yuzuha can watch and judge how well you did.
Airi: Are you all sure?
Yuzuha: Of course! But you’d better make it fun to watch, okay?
Chisa: Only thing now is finding a place for you to practice. You’ll make too much noise if you do it here in the dorm.
Yuuki: How about the lesson studio? It should be empty at this hour, and there’s some mats there too.
Chisa: That works. So, Airi, I’ll finish your embroidery project for you. While I’m doing that, you go to the lesson studio to work on your somersaults.
Airi: You guys…you’re lifesavers…!
Yuuki: Don’t even worry about it!
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: Chisa, I would like compensation for my services.
Chisa: Fine, what is it? Though I can’t help but notice you’re doing the least out of the three of us anyway…
Yuzuha: Could you stitch up the hem of my skirt?
Chisa: I figured…fine, bring it here.
Yuzuha: Yay!
Yuuki: Oh, oh, me too! Can I get you to iron some clothes for me?
Chisa: Sure, sure, just bring them all to me.
Yuuki: Oh, shoot! I just remembered I was supposed to clean the common areas today!
Chisa: …Fine, I can cover that too.
Yuuki: Oh, and I forgot I had clothes in the washing machine!
Chisa: I’ll get it all, just hurry up and go! Shoo!
Tumblr media
Chisa: Sigh. Honestly, they’re such handfuls…
Chisa: But I have to admit I do like doing the housework.
Chisa: …Alright. That takes care of everything I agreed to do.
Chisa: I wonder how their practice is going. Maybe I’ll go check in on them…
---
Tumblr media
Yuuki: Let’s see who’s the king!
Chisa: Just WHAT are you three doing?!
Yuuki: Ehehe, playing King’s Game? We were a bit tired so we decided to take a break.
Chisa: And this break also included getting snacks and juice?
Airi: I decided to treat them since they’re taking the time to help me…
Chisa: I’m sure that could have waited until you got back to the dorm.
Airi: I’m sorry…
Chisa: So, how’s the somersault practice going? Make any progress?
Yuuki: …
Yuzuha: …
Airi: …We, um, haven’t started…
Tumblr media
Something snaps.
Tumblr media
Yuuki: Did, uh, anyone else hear that? I thought I heard something snap just now.
Yuzuha: I heard it too. I think it came from inside Chisa.
Airi: Um…A-are you okay, Chisa-chan?
Chisa: I’m going to go call Kirika-sensei.
Chisa: I’m sure she can help come up with an excellent training plan for you.
Airi: …Oh no…
Yuuki and Yuzuha start inching away
Yuuki: ..Haha, sounds like you don’t need us anymore then!
Yuzuha: I was just here to watch, anyway–
Tumblr media
Chisa: You two aren’t going anywhere. Airi bought you those snacks as thanks for helping, remember? You already ate it, so now you owe her.
Yuzuha: Ah.
Chisa: And you especially, Yuzuha.
Chisa: That skirt you had me fix took an awful lot of work, you know?
Yuzuha: I don’t think we’re getting out of this one.
Chisa: All three of you are staying until you can pull off whatever performance Kirika-sensei assigns you. Until then, none of you get to go home, you understand?! I don’t care how late it gets!
Airi: Y-yes ma’am!
(Y/n) and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week: Monday
Tuesday     Wednesday     Thursday (Part 1)     Thursday (Part 2)     Friday     Saturday     Sunday
Spotify Playlist (collaborative)
Pairing: SBI x sister!reader (she/her pronouns)
Warnings: swearing, toxic friends, panic spirals/attacks, injury, taking pills for pain
Summary: you have a very bad week, how will you manage? (Characters are fully human, but based on their DSMP characters. High school AU)
Word count: 4,818
(A/N): I’ve never played volleyball or watched Haikyuu before, so I’m not 100% certain how games work. Also, I probs should’ve split this into two parts, but eh.
“(Y/n) love, you look homeless in that sweater, it’s literally so fucking ugly.”
“Haha, yeah it is. I guess I just wasn’t really trying today.”
Adrian snorted, scanning your body with his cold eyes. “Today? You don’t try at all. You always look like trash.”
“More than trash, you always look like you just rolled in dog shit.” Sammy threw her head back and cackled at her own joke.
Your friends around you erupted in laughter as you four walked down the hallways of the hell that was your public high school. You awkwardly chuckled alongside them, you didn’t really find it funny, but you didn’t want to draw more attention towards yourself.
“Seriously, (y/n), I really don’t know why we still hang out around you anymore. You really let yourself go.”
“Yeah, now that I think about it, you did gain like five pounds in the past week.”
“Really not a good look on you, love. Then again, nothing you do can make you look good anymore.”
You tried to not let their comments get to you, you really did, but sometimes their comments just rooted themselves deep into your subconscious. You didn’t try looking good anymore, you couldn’t wear anything without them criticising it. You could never win.
“Awe,” Adrien poked your cheeks, “stop looking so sad. We’re just trying to give you advice. You really need it.”
“Yeah, (y/n). You’re so sensitive, get a grip.”
“Guys look, I think she’s gonna cry!”
You wiped at your welling eyes with the sleeves of your sweater. “I’m not. I just got allergies.”
Annie rolled her eyes. “Uh-huh. Anyways, what are our plans for Halloween? We should totally dress up like sexy angels! I think that’d be so cool. Like, Clint’s party won’t be ready for us.”
“Oh, about that Annie…”
“God, what now (y/n)?”
“I was actually planning on spending Halloween night taking Tommy and Tubbo trick-or-treating with my brothers and dad. I won’t be able to go with you guys, I’m sorry.”
The group groaned loudly. “C’mon (y/n), you never hang out with us anymore.”
“Oh my god (y/n) you still go trick-or-treating? We’re juniors.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve just been busy with my AP classes and studying for the SAT. My team captain’s really been pushing the team hard with volleyball practice. State finals are soon and we want first this year.”
“No matter how much studying you do, you’re gonna fail. You’re stupid, so why try? Just give up and hang out with uuussss.”
“Yeah (y/n),” Adrien looked at you suspiciously, “you’ve been ignoring us lately. I thought we were friends. Do you even wanna be friends anymore?”
You felt a flare of panic flare up in your gut. “I do! I-I just have so much going on right now. It’s starting to get hard to juggle everything.”
“We’re starting to think that you don’t like us anymore, we want our (y/n) back!” Sammy whined. The others agreed with her, making you feel guilty. You were ignoring them, it was selfish in your opinion. You supposed that you could skip out on taking Tommy and Tubbo trick-or-treating, there’ll be other years you could take them.
“I guess I can take Tommy and Tubbo another year. They’d just have to go without me this year.”
They cheered, giving you praise. You beamed at that, they seemed down lately and you loved it when they’d give you compliments. They didn’t do that much, so that made their praise more special to you. You strived to get compliments.
You four went off to your separate first classes for the day. Yours was statistics, a class you’ve been struggling in lately. You didn’t know anybody in there except for your oldest brother Techno, so you tried to stick with him. Unfortunately, the teacher’s seating chart placed you both on opposite ends of the room, probably because of your last names indicating that you’re siblings. You placed your stuff down on the table and plopped down into your seat, already drained. You had a long day ahead of you; you had a major AP world history test in your next class, you had to give a presentation in your AP english class that was worth a quarter of your final grade, and you had a semifinals volleyball match that would last until late in the night. If your team won, you would be going to state finals, so it was a lot of pressure on your shoulders. You were the main setter, so you had to really focus tonight if you were going to score your team points.
“Alright class, pull out your homework!”
Fuck, you had homework? You looked in your folder, only to see the unfinished sheet full of equations you didn’t understand staring back at you tauntingly. Mr. Mullins walked over to your desk, took one look at your blank homework, and just walked right past you. Another big fat zero in the gradebook for you, just what you needed. At least he wasn’t in the mood to berate you today. You didn’t need any more stress piled onto your shoulders.
The lesson felt like it dragged on forever with you frantically trying to copy down the notes on the board and trying to understand the content at the same time. Overtime, he would call students up to the board. Hopefully, he would skip over you today. “Ms. Minecraft.” Goddamn it, you spoke too soon.
Your head perked up and you looked at him. “Yes sir?”
“Come up to the board and solve this.”
Gulping, you felt panic rise up in you and stood up with shaky knees. On the board was part of the newer content he was just teaching. Something that you understood only a little bit better than the rest, and that’s not saying much. You still didn’t understand the content completely. Your writing was shaky as you wrote what you thought was right on the board. Finding the answer, you circled it and looked at Mr. Mullins. He looked disappointed.
“That’s wrong, Ms. Minecraft. Please sit down.”
You felt like your face was on fire as you saw the entire class burning holes into you with their eyes. Though they looked dead inside, as per usual with any morning class full of tired teenagers, their effects still took hold on you. You wanted to crawl into a dark hole and die. You sat back down and stared at your note packet, you couldn’t focus on the lecture anymore. Your attention was fully on your surroundings, you were hyper aware of every little whisper and bouncing leg in your peripheral vision. You could feel yourself spiraling, usually that wouldn’t happen until after your third class. Today was going to be rough.
The loud chime of the bell startled you out of your thoughts. You shakily put your papers back into your binder and put the binder back into your backpack. Right as you were about to walk through the door, you heard Techno catch up to you. “Hey, you good?”
“Yeah Tech, I’m just peachy.”
“Are you su-”
“Technoblade. I’m fine. Now if you excuse me, I have to get to my next class. I have an important presentation I’ve gotta prepare for.”
Without giving him any room to argue, you rushed off to your english class. You had Adrian and Annie in your class. For your presentation, you were paired up with people that you hardly knew. At least they did their part in the project, you were certain you were going to die if you got paired up with Adrian and Annie again. You loved them, but they never did any part of their portion of work. They left it to you to finish at midnight the day the project was due. To be fair, they both told you they had family emergencies, so you covered for them just that once.
You pulled out your flashcards only to have them knocked out of your hand when someone bumped into you. You quickly crouched to pick them up so you could have them in order by time class started. “Oops, sorry love.”
It was Annie. She and Adrian towered over your crouched form smirking at you. Looking back down to rearrange your cards, you murmured “it’s ok.”
“Are you ready for this presentation, I know I am.”
You smiled a little. “Actually, I think I’m going to ace this. English is my best subject.”
“Yeah (y/n), I wasn’t asking you. I was talking to Annie. Besides, you’re probably going to fail this.” Adrian scoffed.
“Thank you for asking, Adrian,” Annie shot a pointed look at you, “at least someone cares.”
The bell rang, signifying the start of your second block. You felt like you had a lump in your throat blocking your breathing. If Adrian, one of the smartest kids in your english class, said that you were going to fail, then you probably were going to fail. That would take a huge hit on your grade, this project was worth a quarter of your final grade after all. You were zoned out for the entirety of your classmate’s presentations putting yourself into a spiral. You jumped when Mr. Todd, your teacher, called your group up to present.
You stood stiffly in the middle of your two groupmates and clutched your flashcards with clammy hands. Luckily, your part of the presentation was not first. When it came to your part, you were stuttering and tumbling over your words. You even dropped your flashcards in front of everybody, causing half the class to snicker. Your face burned as you hurried to pick them up and your other groupmate took this as a signal to continue the presentation. You still had an important point to make that was integral for the set up to your other groupmate’s part of her presentation. You stared at your flashcards for the rest of the presentation.
When the bell rang, you made a mad dash out of the classroom. You didn’t want to talk to anybody, especially not Adrian or Annie. It was a relief that you had your lunch period at the moment. You could hide yourself in the bathroom nobody used and let your panic attack ride itself out.
You ducked inside a stall and sat on the toilet, bringing your knees up to bury your face in them. The tears and panic you were holding in all day let itself out with explosive effects. You started to hyperventilate as you muffled your sobs with your knee. Your chest painfully clenched so you couldn’t breathe. Your limbs felt like they weighed two tons each and they were shaking intensely. You didn’t hear the end of the lunch bell ring. By the time you calmed down slightly, you were five minutes late to AP world history.
You packed your stuff up in a hurry, power walking through the halls. You probably looked like shit, but you didn’t care, you had a class to get to and a test that you probably wouldn’t be able to finish now. You lost ten minutes of your test time. When you tried to open the closed door, you found that it was locked. You had to knock if you wanted to get in. You raised a shaking hand to knock, but the door was opened by a less-than-impressed Ms. Osborne. She ushered you to your desk and gave you your unit test.
You couldn’t focus. The multiple choice section was usually a breeze to you, but you couldn’t comprehend any of the questions. When you could comprehend them, you couldn’t concentrate on choosing an answer. You did your best to find the correct answers, but you were almost positive that at least half of them were wrong. Your handwriting was nearly incomprehensible and your essay topic was something you didn’t study for. When you were done with half of the body paragraphs, the bell rang and you had to turn in your unfinished test.
You had your independent online psychology course next in the library. You usually worked alone secluded in a corner deep inside the library where nobody went. You would get some solace in being alone. Maybe you’d calm down enough so that you could ride home with your brothers and not go for a long walk so you could avoid them.
You settled down in the comfortable chair and pulled out your laptop to get started. Psychology was your favorite class. It was easy for you to understand, it didn’t have much of a workload attached to it, and it was fun to learn about. It always calmed you down reading about the intricate workings of the brain.
By time the day was over, you got most of your psychology work done and you were on your way to the car you shared with Technoblade and Wilbur. You took out your spare keys and slumped against the window in the backseat. You were absolutely drained after your terrible day and you still felt panic swirling deep within you, waiting for the right moment to strike.
You stretched out your legs across the seat and leaned your back against the door. For the first time that day, you felt peaceful. You still had at least fifteen minutes to yourself until your brothers would start to make your way to the car. You felt the panic subside slightly and you fully relaxed. You closed your eyes and let yourself drift off into a light sleep. You needed your energy for tonight’s match.
The door you were leaning on swung open and you tumbled backwards smacking the back of your head against the metal frame of the car and reverse scorpioning onto the pavement. Your entire upper back and the back of your head exploded in pain and your lower back hurt slightly from having your back bent uncomfortably. You heard laughter above you as you felt tears of pain start to slip out of your eyes. Your legs swung out from their place above your face and landed on the ground with a painful thump.
You saw three blurry figures above you laughing at your pain. You reached up with a shaky hand to wipe at your tears and saw Adrian, Sammy, and Annie. They were cackling as you shakily stood up and sat on the comfortable seats of the car. You waited patiently for them to calm down.
Eventually, Sammy calmed down enough to explain what happened to you through chuckles. “I’m sorry (y/n), it was just too good to resist. You should’ve seen your face.”
She and the others broke back into uncontrolled laughter as they remembered your embarrassing fall. You were used to their antics, and quite frankly it felt good to make your friends laugh, even if it were at your own expense. Just as they were calming down once again, you saw Wilbur and Techno walk out the front doors of the school laughing at something the other said. Annie and Sammy heard their laughter and quickly turned around to watch them. They had massive crushes on both of your brothers, many in the school did.
Your brothers made their way to your shared car and stopped to look at you in slight confusion. “(Y/n), were you crying? What happened?” Wilbur asked worriedly.
“Yea-”
“Oh Wilbur, it was terrible, (y/n) fell out of the car. I don’t think she closed the door before she leaned on it.” Annie interrupted you with a faked concerned tone, a complete contradiction to her reaction before your brothers came.
Techno hastily made his way to the driver’s side door. “Well, if she’s hurt we better get going, right Wilbur?”
“Yes! We better get going, please excuse us.” He sat in the passenger seat and closed the door without hearing Sammy and Annie’s desperate attempts to stop them so they could talk to them. Your brothers thought Sammy and Annie were annoying. They absolutely hated being around them.
Waving apologetically at your friends, you pulled yourself into the car and closed the door. Annie and Sammy looked offended that you had let Wilbur and Techno get away from them. Avoiding their eyes, you looked down at your tightly clasped hands. They were shaking slightly.
After pulling out of the parking lot, Techno glanced at you from the rearview mirror. “You ok (y/n)?”
“Yeah, my back just hurts and I have a headache.”
“Well, do you wanna go and get some ice cream? We still have some time left before we have to pick up Tommy and Tubbo. Dad doesn’t have to know,” Wilbur asked you.
You sighed, you wanted nothing other than to take a nap before your match. “Sorry, but I need to watch what I eat today. We have semifinals tonight and I can’t have anything sugary. I just wanna go home and take a nap.”
Your brothers were quiet for the rest of the car ride until you reached your driveway. Techno twisted his body around in his seat to look at you after he put the car in park. “Did you actually fall out of the car?”
Shit, should you tell him the truth? If you did, they would almost certainly get mad at your friends. Sammy and Annie would never forgive you if you turned your brothers against them. You decided that you would take one for the team again. “Yeah, I wasn’t paying attention.”
Techno snorted. “Well, that was stupid,” he jokingly said. “Next time you’re gonna get run over by a parked car.”
You knew that he meant that as a joke, but it still stung. Stamping your emotions down, you laughed with him and Wilbur. It was stupid of you to do, you shouldn’t have let your guard down if you weren’t at home.
You winced as you slung your bag on your back and walked the best you could back into your house. Your upper back was killing you. You made a beeline to the bathroom and rummaged through the medicine cabinet looking for some pain relief pills. You took some and shambled off to your room to take your well earned nap. You set your alarm’s setting to its loudest volume and passed out.
You jolted up and gasped when you felt a wave of pain hit your upper back. You blearily looked at the time. You had a little under two hours before you had to get back to the school for your match. You groaned when you pulled yourself up, your head pounding with every turn. You pulled yourself out of bed and once again took some pain pills. You went downstairs to grab an apple or something to eat. Your dad was at the stove stirring something around in a pot.
He turned to look at you with an excited smile. “You ready for your match tonight? You’re gonna kill it!”
You only nodded halfheartedly and plopped yourself down at the table with your apple. Philza frowned at your lack of enthusiasm, but he figured that it was just because you just woke up from a nap. You’d bounce back eventually.
“Wilbur told me that you fell out of the car? How’d you do that?”
You shrugged, wincing slightly as it moved your back slightly. “Dunno, must’ve not closed the door.”
Philza was at your side in a hurry, his hands hovering over your shoulders. “Did you get hurt? Show me where it hurts.”
“My back and the back of my head.”
“Can I move your shirt so I could look?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
You felt him gently pull the neck of your t-shirt away from your body to peek at your back. You heard his breath hitch as he looked. Was it that bad? “Good god (y/n),” he breathed out.
“What, is it bad?”
“Don’t you feel how bad it is? Your entire back is bruised. I think there’s some blood too.”
“Damn.”
“First, language. Second, that’s all you have to say? Aren’t you in pain?”
“Yeah, but the pain pills are gonna kick in soon. I’ll be fine.”
“Would you be able to play tonight? I really think you should sit this one out.”
“No, I’m playing tonight Dad.”
“(Y/n),” oh no, he was using his stern dad voice. “It’s not a good idea to play tonight. You’re hurt, I’m sure they’ll understand if you sit this one out.”
You felt frustration rise up in you. “We’re in the semifinals. They need me, I’m the main setter. They’d lose without me playing.”
“(Y/n), I’m serious. You’re not playing today.”
“Dad, I am playing today. Look, I’ll talk to Coach Williams to see if I could be rotated out more often. I know she’d let me.”
He stared at you for a while before sighing. He knew there was no convincing you. “...Fine. But you better talk to Coach Williams about sitting out for a bit if your back hurts too much or I swear I’ll drag you off the court myself.”
You smiled a little at the small victory. “Thank you! I promise I’ll sit out if needed.”
He quirked an eyebrow at you. “If needed?”
You sighed, “when needed.”
He walked over to the pot, stirring the contents slightly. “That’s better. Dinner’s almost ready, I made some pasta.”
“It smells good, but I think I’m skipping out on it for today. I already ate this apple and if I eat any more I’ll probably hurl on the court.”
He made a displeased noise in the back of his throat, “fine, but you’re eating something when we get home tonight.”
He walked off to go get your brothers and Tubbo for dinner. You could hear their booming steps racing down the stairs towards the kitchen. They raced into the kitchen and almost crashed into the back of your chair. You stood up and looked at the two excitable fifth graders. “Careful boys, don’t want you getting hurt.”
“You’re no fun (y/n),” Tommy whined.
“Sure, sorry bout that,” Tubbo beamed at you.
You chuckled, making your way upstairs to get ready for your match. You took off your clothes with great difficulty and slipped on your jersey and your spandex shorts. They were way too short for your tastes, but you couldn’t wear longer ones, they’d just get in the way. You fondly remembered how your dad flipped out when he first saw you in them, he hated them with a burning passion. He still hates how short they are.
When you were struggling with pulling your hair back into a tight, sleek ponytail, the back of your head throbbed continuously with pain. You most likely bruised your scalp.
You slipped on your shoes that were made specifically for playing volleyball and headed downstairs. You were met with Tommy and Tubbo jumping in excitement seeing you in your uniform. They loved going to your matches, even if they would always pass out in the car after them because matches usually ended late at night. You grabbed your dad’s keys and headed to his car. Before you could lead the boys out the door, Philza’s voice stopped you.
“(Y/n), coat.”
You huffed, grabbing your coat and putting it on before tossing him his keys. You four got into the car and set out for the high school. The short drive was filled with Tommy and Tubbo asking you questions about volleyball and encouraging you. “(Y/n), you’re gonna kick their butts!”
“Yeah!” Tubbo cheered
Despite their voices causing a spike of pain to shoot throughout your head, you laughed at their enthusiasm. It was always nice to hear your little brother and pseudo brother in the stands cheering you on, they were your and your team’s personal cheerleaders.
Not long after you got to the school, you were stretching with your team on the gym’s floor. Your posse found their way into the stands, sitting in the front row. The away team watched your team like a hawk, analysing every single player for any weakness. It was because of them that you tried to not show any pain when you moved your back. You talked to Coach Williams before the team stretch and she was obviously sympathetic with your situation. She agreed to switching you out with the standby setter every few rotations.
The echo of the whistles caused pain to ring in your head every time someone scored or a foul was called. Your team captain, Haley, was constantly, yet discreetly checking on you throughout the game since she was always next to you. She was the team’s main spiker after all.
The game droned on and on before you realized that the opposing team was targeting you when they were offensive. They probably realized that you were injured a round ago. You tried your best to block every ball that was sent your way, but a few managed to slip past you when you couldn’t move fast enough. This team was good, but your team was better.
The score during the final round was tied and the clock was on it’s last ten seconds as the ball soared your way. You dove to hit it, landing on your shoulder on the hard floor and hitting it up high enough for Haley to spike the ball down. The crowd went wild as the ball bounced off from the opposite end of the court almost simultaneously with the screeching of the referee’s whistle, signifying the end of the game and your team’s victory.
You laid on the floor in pain, you thought you must’ve pulled your tender muscles in your back and shoulder. It hurt to move it. You felt one of your teammates grab your hand to yank you up into a giant full team group hug. You yelped slightly in pain as you felt arms press against your back and hands firmly patting your bruised shoulders. You were whisked away into the locker room to change into the pajamas you brought with you.
“(Y/n), are you alright? That was a pretty hard fall.” Haley’s soft voice asked you. You felt your heart sing in your chest.
“Yeah Hales, I’m fine. I just pulled a few muscles.”
Her perfectly shaped eyebrows furrowed together, “are you sure? As your team captain and your friend, I’m worried about you.”
You couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face. You felt warm knowing that she cared about you. “I’m sure, worrywart.”
She rolled her eyes playfully and breathed out a soft laugh. “Sorry for asking, grump.” Her laugh sounded like music to your ears.
Your phone vibrated in your pajama pocket, alerting you of your family waiting for you in the car and for you to hurry up. You sighed, “sorry Hales, I gotta go. Dad’s getting impatient.”
She gave you a small smile. “Oh, well, tell your family I said hi! Good work on the court today, I wouldn’t ask for a different setter.”
You felt your cheeks warm up and you watched with wide eyes as she left the locker room. Your phone vibrated again, your dad was really starting to get impatient.
You walked out of the school as fast as you could to find your dad’s car waiting for you up front. Jumping in and softly closing the passenger side door, you slumped against the window. “(Y/n),” Tommy’s tired voice slurred. “That. Was. Pog…”
You glanced back to see him and Tubbo snoring away in their seats. Your match was more exciting than usual, so that must’ve really tired them out. You chuckled, turning back around to lean against the window. You took care not to put any weight on your shoulder or back.
“(Y/n), you were amazing out there, but why did you dive for that ball? That fall looked like it hurt.”
You hummed tiredly, “thanks Dad. I just did what I thought would win us the game. We’re going to finals!” You quietly sang.
“Did you hurt your shoulder?”
“I actually don’t know, but I think I might’ve pulled a few muscles. Nothing too bad.”
“...I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for you tomorrow morning during your first and second blocks. I want you to get your back, shoulder, and head looked at. You looked miserable the entire match.”
You sighed, too tired to argue, “mmk.”
He chuckled before the car fell into a comfortable silence. The gentle bouncing of the car and the subtle hum of the engine was lulling you to sleep. Your eyelids were drooping by the time you pulled into your driveway.
You drug yourself out of the car and into the house, leaving Philza with the sleeping boys. You walked straight to your room and plopped down on your bed, passing out instantly for the second time that day.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
You are casually chatting along with Karl, and a very drunk Quackity. The music is loud in the house. You don’t remember whose parents own the house, it's more likely it's an involuntary frat house. But it sure isn’t a place you are used to coming to. You can spot Sapnap as he makes his way over to the three of you, and before you know it.
Sapnap pulls you along onto the dance floor, barely giving you time to put your drink down. You are already a good few drinks down and can’t help but feel like floating as he drags you along. A giggle passes your lips as you make your way into the dancefloor.
The music is loud, and while you have never heard this song before, you feel like you know the lyrics to it.
Sapnap places his hands on your hips as the two of you dance.
It’s nice, it’s fun.
It’s not what you are supposed to be doing.
Because as far as your family is aware, you are sleeping nice and soundly at home, and not out drinking and partying.
Well, most of your family, you could have sworn you saw your brother, Wilbur, in the crowd earlier. But what he doesn’t know. Won’t hurt him.
“Having fun tonight?” Sapnap’s voice breaks you away from your though. His face is suddenly a lot closer than before. His warm breath hitting your ear as he whispered. A grin works its way onto your own face.
“With you? Of course.”
It’s loud. It’s warm. It’s crowded.
Yet there is nowhere else you would want to be for the night.
Sapnap pulls away from your ear again, mouthing along to the song that’s playing. And the two of you dance, losing yourself to the crowd. Losing yourself to the music. Losing yourself to each other.
None of you have count on the number of songs that pass by. Each one seemingly bleeding into the next, and your energy never-ending. Your dancing ever the fun.
You can feel his hands as they glided over your body, seemingly exploring all of it. And you enjoy it, egging him on as you dance. You dance only for him. Matching your hips to the rhythm. Your eyes locked on his. His hands locked on you.
A cheeky wink from you timed to the music, is all Sapnap needs for him to pull you close against him once again. His lips ghost over your ear.
“You look great in blue.”
His touch goes from warm to hot, seemingly setting you ablaze. His lips trailing over your neck. Down to your shoulder. From your shoulder back to your neck. His teeth grazing over your neck lightly before he continues back up to your ear.
You can feel him whisper something to you, but you have lost most senses. Only able to focus on his touch. As his fingers grip you tighter.
He pulls his face back, and you lock eyes with him. A smirk is eminent on his face.
It’s clear to him, it’s clear to anyone taking a glance at you. He is driving you wild.
His left-hand leaves your side to cup your face. He pulls you in slowly, and you more than willingly follow along. His lips ghosting over yours once more. For a second, it’s just the two of you. Just for a second. But only for a second. Then the spell breaks.
“Fuck.” Sapnap mutters and pulls away. His hands letting go of you completely, and suddenly you are forced to stand on your own. You feel a bit disorientated at the sudden pull back to reality.
Sapnaps eyes are locked on something a bit behind you, a string of curse words seemingly leaving his mouth. You’re unsure if he’s muttering or talking. The music overpowering them either way.
You turn around to find what has brought him to pull away.
And there in the outskirt of the dancefloor stands a tall pink-haired guy, holding a brunette slumped against the pink guy. Or as you formerly know them, your older brothers Techno and Wilbur. They seem to be looking for someone, as Techno seems to be looking through the crowd that has assembled on the makeshift dancefloor.
Sapnap leans over to your ear once again.
“Does your dad know that you are out?” This time he’s yelling, no longer intimate or secretive whispers.
“No!” You yell back to him.
“Do you think they’re looking for you?”
Techno catches your eyes and raises a hand. Answering Sapnaps question for you.
You manoeuvred your way through the dancing crowd, leaving Sapnap alone. Approaching your brothers. You cast a glance back to where you stood, Sapnap already gone in the crowd. You try not to look disappointed, as you look back at your brother, but one raised eyebrow from Techno is enough to tell you, you failed to do so.
“Drunk?”
“Drunk.”
You sigh, as you guide Wilburs arm over your shoulder, and the three of you head into the night and down the street. A couple of minutes passes, and Wilbur starts to mumble about his big plans for the future.
You and Techno share a laugh at your brother's expense in the night. The inevitable scolding from Phil far away in the future.
It takes you exactly three weeks before you have done enough chores to get ungrounded. Although all three of you had snuck out in the middle of the night. You and Techno had been responsible enough to bring Wilbur home without trying to drive, and you had even woken Phil up yourself when you got home. Although you were pretty sure he had heard you from the moment you had stepped through the door. And Wilbur had decided that the hallway would be a perfectly good place to take a nap.
But that was three weeks ago, and now is now.
You have the clothes you want to wear in your backpack, along with your laptop and a physics book to make it believable.
While you don’t pride yourself on being a party animal, it doesn’t hurt to participate when invited. And especially not when Sapnap himself invites you.
“Bye Dad!” You yell out as you pass the kitchen. Phil sitting on his laptop, with Tommy beside him looking close to crying in frustration over homework, and Wilbur seemingly trying to cook something up. Keyword trying.
“Wait up!” Phil yells out, making you stop in your track. “Come in here.” You slowly backtrack your steps, making you stand in the doorway of the kitchen.
“Where are you going?” He squints his eyes at you, before looking you up and down. Tommy mouths ‘someone is in trouble’ to you. And you resist against, in all better judgement, to hit him.
Instead, you lift your backpack, “Study session at Karls, remember? I’m staying over for the night.”
Wilbur decides now is the perfect time to join the conversation, a playful look on his face. He knows exactly what’s going to be happening at Karls place tonight. Despite still being grounded, you know you will see him there later tonight.
“Study session huh? I thought you had study group on Wednesdays?” Wilbur brings a hand up to mimic a thinking position.
Fuck.
“I do!” Was that too quick? You look back at Phil, “I do.” You repeat yourself, “It’s just for my physics lecture, got a test on Monday.” Phil seems to not completely buy it. “Besides Dad, I am ungrounded after all, you said so yourself yesterday.”
Phil hums. “I did say that…” He looks you over once more. “Alright. At least let Techno or Wil drive you.”
That decision is easy enough for you.
“TECHNO! DAD SAYS YOU HAVE TO DRIVE ME!” You yell into the house. You swear you can hear your brother grumble about having to drive you from upstairs. But you elect to ignore it.
You look back over at Wilbur who is now discarding his apron in favour of getting out of the house. He knows if he can play his cards right, he can make Techno stop at the music store. And he might just be able to catch his totally secret girlfriend Sally for a couple of minutes. Not like he won’t be seeing her tonight.
You listen as Techno walks down the stairs. Now audibly complaining about being the only responsible driver in the house.
You would drive yourself, but having one car for four people to share isn’t exactly great. You tried having a driving plan once that you could put yourself on when you needed to borrow the car. It ended up with a month of Wilbur hogging the car. So now instead, you all just always drive each other around like soccer moms.
Techno looks annoyed at you as he passes the kitchen. But you know if he was truly annoyed he just wouldn’t have come down at all.
You turn to follow Techno into the hallway but are still able to overhear Phil questioning Wilbur on where he is going.
“To drive with them of course.”
“You’re still grounded.”
“C’mon Dad, Phil, Philza, it’s just a drive, it’s not like I would be seeing anyone.”
“Fine.” Despite not being able to see Phil, you know your dad is trying his best not to smile at Wilbur’s antics. “Just a drive. You probably need to get out of the house anyway.”
And that’s enough for him to end in the backseat of the car. Tagging along.
You automatically go for the AUX, as the designated DJ in the front seat. You barely get to press play, before Wilbur has started a conversation. A conversation that is closer to an interrogation.
“So Karl’s place to study, huh? Nothing to do with what’s going to happen tonight at all?”
“Oh please.” You turn your head to look back at Wilbur. “As if you won’t be there too.”
“Techno is gonna be there too!” Wilbur whines, as if it would make the situation any better.
“Wait, really?” You look over at Techno, turning forward in your seat once more.
“Yeah, Dream won at practice the other day.”
“How?” “You lost?” You and Wilbur speak at the same time.
“The guy put oil on my sword, so I dropped it.”
You snort, and Wilbur laughs. “So much for Techno Blade never loses.”
“Oh, shut up the two of you. At least I’m not grounded.”
“Hey!” Wilbur shouts.
The car ride passes with sibling banter, and a couple more jabs at each other before you are pulling up to Karls house. You quickly get out and yell a quick “See you later!” before heading over to the front door. You smile to yourself as you overhear Wilbur asking if they can stop by the music store as he changes from the back seat to the front seat.
You listen as the car pulls away, and you get to ring the doorbell.
A flustered Karl throws open the door. Loudly greeting you, before pulling you into a hug.
“You made it! I didn’t think you would, but then again Sapnap did invite you. But you did say no the other couple of times and-”
“I get it Karl, but I’m here now.” You smile at him, letting him breathe. He giggles. “Can I come in?”
“Oh yes! Of course! Of course! Come in.” Karl guides you into the living room, closing the door after you. You stand awkwardly in the doorway until Karl grabs your wrist and leads you over to the sofa telling you to sit down.
You kinda expected more people to be here. But instead, you are met with the familiar faces of Karl and yours friend group. Not to mention a couple of Wilburs friends. Not that the small town is big enough for everyone close in age to not already know each other. The community college isn't exactly helping either.
You can already feel tonight will have a different feeling than last time. Way more down to earth, and way more chill.
Quackity falls into the seat beside you and offers you a drink, which you happily take. “It’s nice to see you not all dressed up you know.” He tells you. Suddenly you’re happy you didn’t change at home, not that you had much of a choice.
“Yeah, it’s nice not to be all dressed up.” You say, taking a sip, as you eye your backpack that was placed against the wall in the living room.
“I hear both your brothers are gonna be here later. I can’t believe Phil just lets you guys go out. My mom thinks we are studying for English class.” Quackity complains. "I hate still living at home."
“Oh no, you have it all wrong, Phil doesn’t.” You laugh, a bit dry, but it is what it is. “He thinks I’m here for a study session for my physics lecture, Wilbur is still grounded for the last time the three of us was out, and Techno is only coming because he apparently lost to Dream at fencing practice.”
Quackity snorts, “Techno lost to Dream?”
“I know! That was my reaction too.” The two of you share a laugh.
“I can’t believe the Minecraft household is filled with degenerates.” He feigns a disappointed tone.
“You aren’t that much better.” Sapnap buts into your conversation. You hadn’t noticed him walking in. Quackity lifts his hands in defeat and gets up from the couch. Only for Sapnap to quickly takes his place.
“I’m guessing by that your dad doesn’t know about tonight either.” He teases you, and you look away for a moment, your purple drink suddenly very interesting.
“He does, sorta, not. He thinks we are here to study.” You give Sapnap a weak smile, and he chuckles at your antics.
You barely miss him muttering, “Cute.” Underneath his breath.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
And then silence falls upon the two of you. You want to keep him talking, of course, you do. How could you not want to? It’s Sapnap.
Every time he speaks, you want to cling to each word and hold it dearly. Instead, you flash him a smile, and he smiles back. Before looking away, and you can’t help but feel a bit defeated at that.
However, you are saved by Karl hooking up his phone to a speaker and way too loud music blasts into the living room.
It takes a good half-minute before the volume is lowered enough for it to be background music, and it takes even longer for anyone to agree on what playlist to be put on.
The afternoon bleeds into the late afternoon, and more people have decided to join. You now share the three-person couch with two more people, leading to you being pressed up again Sapnap. Not that you are complaining.
Wilbur and Sally have arrived too, already sitting on the floor together. Already - as your youngest brother Tommy would say - already sucking each other’s faces dry.
Techno seems to be the last person to join the gathering, bringing beer too. Of course, you can’t help but think. Of all the people he’s the only one of the three of you, that could ever make Phil buy any of you beer.
"Techno is the most responsible of you four."
"C'mon on dad! This isn't fair!"
"Exactly! I understand her, but daaaad we're both 20 why do you want to help him but not me?"
"Shut up Wilbur."
You are in a heated conversation with Karl about the right way to read document history. When you notice a touch on your left side. You stop midsentence, Karl doesn’t notice and keep arguing his side. But Sapnap does.
You can feel a pair of eyes on you, as you look down to see his hand around your waist. Neither of you have talked to each other since the quick conversation. Then Dream and George had each pulled up a chair nearby the couch and the three of them had talked since then.
Suddenly you get hit with the thought, that maybe, despite all better judgement, just maybe. What happened a couple of weeks ago wasn’t just because you were the nearest person. Just maybe it was because Sapnap actually looked your way.
You don’t let the thought get to your head too much, because the second you look at him. He’s back in his conversation with Dream and George about something you don’t really care about from the sounds of it. You shake your head; you must have been imagining stuff. He didn’t look at you.
You get two more drinks in you, as the evening passes on, and Sapnaps hand seems to find its way onto your thigh. You have no intention of getting drunk, but the feeling of Sapnaps hand on you seems near addicting.
It’s nearing midnight when a less than sober Dream suggests a game of Truth or Dare.
Techno complains against it as the only one, stating “We aren’t middle schoolers.”
So you play truth or dare.
The first couple of rounds starts innocently enough, the mood is good. Everyone is having fun. You are enjoying yourself, listening to embarrassing stories, to creating new ones alongside your friends. Finding yourself curling into Sapnaps side just a bit more.
He doesn’t protest or say anything against it, so you take it as a win, and keep leaning against him.
Then a drunk Quackity gets his turn and asks George for his worst hook-up. And the energy in the room changes. From then on the innocent truths and even more naïve dares are out the window. For stories about peoples experiences, and dares that seemingly gets riskier and riskier.
You manage to dodge most questions, keeping to the truth after that point on. Until you are unable to.
“Don’t be boring! Choose dare!” George eggs you on, and you give in. Anyone would give in, you swear the guy has pretty privilege. Most of the living room cheers.
“I have a good dare.” Dream says.
“Too bad it’s not your turn to ask then.” You stick your tongue out at him and turn your attention back to George. When you see the guy motioning for Dream to whisper his dare. “Betrayal George, I will never forgive you.”
“Too bad for you then.” His smile widening the longer Dream keeps whispering. Your worry starts to grow, you are already regretting deeply for giving in to the peer pressure.
Dream retreats and looks satisfied with his idea. George takes a moment to think it over, but it’s clear that he has already made up his mind.
“I dare you…” He clicks his tongue. “I dare you to give Sapnap a lap dance!”
“What?”
“You heard me!” George looks proud of himself, or his idea, or Dreams idea. You don’t know. Your stomach is seemingly doing backflips at the idea, while your head is spinning for the exact opposite reason.
“Chicken?” You try, you don’t notice the desperate look Sapnap is giving George.
“Nope,” George pops his ‘p’, “you’ve been boring all evening with only choosing truth. Besides we're all adults here, c'mon it could be a lot worse.”
You look over at Wilbur, who is more than occupied with Sally. Then over at Karl, who has a teasing grin on his lips, as if he knew this would happen. Then to Quackity, who looks like someone who definitely knew this would happen. Then to Techno, who looks like he could murder Dream. And knowing him, there is a 50/50 chance he’s still mad over losing or that it’s about the idea Dream just proposed.
“He didn’t say it had to be here,” Sapnap says to help you out. “We can just leave.” Your head pecks up at that. He’s right. George didn’t specify where. A smile forms on your face, a smile based on relief.
Dream starts to protest, but you have already grabbed Sapnaps wrist and started dragging him into Karls room.
You miss Techno slapping Dream over the head.
You make Sapnap sit on Karls bed, as you make sure the door is locked. You would rather die than anyone walk in on you. You look around for a speaker, and you barely get your phone out of your back pocket before Sapnap has put his hand on your wrist now.
“Hey, you don’t have to do it.”
You look at him, panic still evident in your eyes.
“What?”
“I said you don’t have to do it.”
“What?”
He smiles at you and tugs you over to sit beside him on the bed.
“For the third time, you don’t have to do it.”
His left-hand cups your head, his right hand has moved from your wrist and into your hand.
“It’s just a stupid game of truth or dare anyway. Techno is right, we aren’t middle schoolers. Fuck, we aren't even high schoolers.”
You smile at him, before letting out a quiet chuckle.
“Yeah, you’re right. I thought you would want that, though.”
Sapnap leans his head to the side. Asking you to continue.
“I mean, you’re Sapnap. Oh, c’mon on don’t make me say it.”
“Say what?” he grins at you now. The air suddenly becoming light around you.
“Please, don’t act like you don’t know. Everyone knows.” You look away for a moment, his hand lightly turns your head back to look at him, and you let him. Although the look you are met with is one of confusion and not the cockiness you were expecting.
You sigh once.
Then twice.
Then once more.
You were really about to do this, in the bedroom of your childhood friend. Jesus.
“Sapnap, seriously. This isn’t funny.”
“What? I feel like I lost the thread somewhere here.” His hand falls from your face, and you can’t help but want to chase it.
“I like you, everyone knows that. This isn’t funny. Seriously. Everyone knows I’m absolutely hopeless for thinking you would even look in my direction.”
You fall onto Karls bed, letting yourself sink into the purple bedsheets.
“Well, I can tell you two things.”
Sapnap falls onto the bed beside you. The two of you now staring into the wooden ceiling that’s decorated with glow in the dark stars.
“And what are those two things?”
“You see, one nobody thinks you are hopeless.” He chuckles a bit at that. “If anything, I’m the hopeless one here.”
You turn your head to look at him, and he does the same to you, giving you a kind smile.
“And now why would you be that?”
“Because two, not everyone knows that you like me, I didn’t.” You return his smile, although you feel a need to look away at the words, you keep eye contact with him.
“Well, now you know, making me right.” You tease or try to. You can feel the air has gone from light, to very heavy suddenly. Barely breathable. And you can feel your breath hitch in your throat, you know what words you hope he speaks next. But yet, you can’t stop expecting to get laughed at and rejected right here.
“I guess, but you see, I would say I’m the hopeless one here. Because I’ve been trying to tell you that I like you for months now.” He covers his face with a hand. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, I sound like a cliché.”
You let out a small laugh, “Yeah, you do a bit. But…”
“But…?” he asks, his hand still over his face, but you can see him peaking through his fingers.
“But I don’t mind it, I think it’s cute.” And now it’s his time to laugh.
Then slowly a silence falls over the two of you. Unlike the one from earlier, this one is saying more than a thousand words, while saying absolutely nothing at all. It’s just two people who like each other enjoying a moment.
“We should probably get back to the others again.” Sapnap breaks the silence, and you take a deep breath at the sudden disturbance.
“Oh yeah, the others.”
“The longer we stay here, the more they are going to wonder what we are doing.” You can’t help but laugh at that.
“You are sadly right Sapnap. You are unfortunately right.”
You groan as you sit back up, offering him a hand that he gladly takes, but instead of you helping to pull him up from the bed.
He pulls you down into his lap once more.
"However..." He starts, "They can wonder all they want."
You can feel his hands on your hips now. As he leans in to start trailing kisses over your neck once more.
Your breath hitches.
His teeth grace your shoulder before you can feel him sucking.
His hands exploring you as you lean into the pleasure.
You start squirming in his lap, and he stops.
"No."
You pause, as his hands quickly leave you.
"No?"
"I am not having my first time with you, with your brothers down the hallway, and my best friends absolutely listening in," Sapnap admits to you.
The statement makes your face heat up, and you try to hide away in his neck. He chuckles at the cute gesture.
"We should get going..." He trails off but makes no moves to actually get up. Just basking in the heat you apply to him.
You sigh, as you get off him, his hand now holding yours.
"Sadly you're right."
He gets off the bed and stands beside you.
However, when you prepare to let go, he keeps your hands entangled, and if you’re honest, you don’t mind all that much.
You unlock the door and head back into the living room. All conversation going stale the second the two of you stand in the doorway.
Dream ever the curious, is the one to break the ice. “Sooo…”
Sapnap lifts your entangled hands, and the room breaks into cheers. And you swore you heard a couple of people mutter finally. You hide your head in your hand, trying to hide your embarrassment alongside it.
Leading you to miss Karl throwing Quackity some money, and George doing the same to Dream.
You lift your head from your hand as you hear Wilbur speak.
“Good luck explaining that one to Dad.” Wilbur laughs, but a smile clear on his lips.
"What?" You say, as you can feel Wilburs eyes burning onto your throat. Your hand quickly coming up to try and cover the clearly evident mark.
A glance at Techno tells you that he too is happy for you, but even more clearly he is on the brink of smugness. Knowing you're going to get in trouble tomorrow.
He has been the one on the end of most of your seemingly endless rants about the moment that happened weeks ago at that party. The one that your brothers ruined, so it felt self-explanatory for them to be on the end of your whining.
Sapnap guides you, as the two of you return to your seats on the couch and the night continues.
Nothing has truly changed, yet it feels like everything has changed.
And somewhere along the night, things did change.
after hours || kuroo tetsurou
➵ a late night study session might just end with kuroo having a heart attack over how stupidly cute you are.
wc: 3.1k
warnings: f!reader, i guess it’s implied she’s short?, kuroo’s Dumb, i can’t stop thinking about the in-between someone get my own story out of my head please
a/n: hi i wrote this on a whim and for some reason it’s 3k i’m gonna yartz,,, kuroo brainrot let’s go! but thank you ren for beta’ing it yet again :(
the in-between m.list
“But I’m tired,” you whine, plopping your face cheek-first onto your textbook.
“We’re all tired,” Kuroo goads, shaking his head. “Come on. The more we do now, the less we have to worry about later.”
“I know,” you whine. “You don’t need to keep reminding me.”
“I wouldn’t have to remind you if you just did your work,” he grins. “We know for a fact that leaving things to the last minute makes you really stressed.”
“Maybe I work best under pressure,” you mumble. “Ever considered that?”
“I have,” he smiles. “Now you tell me: is it worth the nervous breakdown?”
“You’re cruel and I hate you.”
“We both know that’s not true.”
“Don’t put words in my mouth,” you mutter.
“I think someone’s trying to procrastinate,” he chuckles, reaching over to ruffle your hair.
“It’s late,” you groan. “I’m tired.”
“You’ve made that very clear,” he grins.
You lift your head off the textbook, glare-pouting at him. Your attempts to look intimidating rarely succeed, and this is no exception.
Kuroo can’t hold back his fond smile.
You look exhausted.
Your eyes are a little blearier than usual, shot through with red. Your hair’s a bit of a mess – not that you’ve really made an effort with it anyway – and you’ve got that dull pallor that seems to befall everyone deficient of adequate sleep.
Maybe ten forty-six in the evening was a bit late to be starting homework. And unfortunately for you, the focus for this evening is maths and chemistry.
Of course, Kuroo’s adamant that he tried to get started earlier.
(He didn’t think that the two of you would end up wasting so much of the afternoon just watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but when he’d checked the time, he’d tried to move onto studying.
You, on the other hand, had other ideas.
“Just one more episode.”
“No,” he shook his head. “We’ve got work to do.”
“But we can’t stop here,” you whined. “I wanna know what happens.”
“We’ve got to study,” he’d replied, firm and strict and resolute.
But when you’d grabbed his arm and pouted up at him, saying “Please, Tetsu?”, his resolve toppled in on itself like a poorly constructed engineering assignment made of straws.)
“Hey,” he sighs, patting you on the back. “Let’s just try to get this chapter done tonight, okay? That’s all.”
“Okay,” you mumble.
He knows it’s a bit unfair; the chapter in question is a rather long one, with far more activities in it than the average. But he trusts you to understand what needs to be done – he wouldn’t be putting you through this if it wasn’t so relevant.
He wants you to succeed. He really does. And you both know just how hard he’s been working to help you get to where you need to be.
Time and time again, you apologise for taking up so much of his time, for asking so much of him. He always smiles, saying that it’s actually good practice for him, too – and, of course, you’re managing the volleyball team.
He insists it’s a two-way street.
Not that it matters. He knows that he’d still do this for you, even if he gets nothing out of it.
He finds it too hard to say no to you, after all.
Kuroo jumps as a solid three-rap knock rattles his door.
“Are you still up, Tetsu dear?” His grandmother’s voice sounds far too amused for his liking.
“Uh, yeah,” he swallows, getting out of his chair and opening the door.
His grandmother stands in front of him, dressed in her purple silk pyjamas.
(They’re a recent birthday present that you’d chipped in a bit of money for, even though Kuroo had told you it was fine – you didn’t need to.
You’d just smiled and told him that you wanted to say a little thank you for how kind she’d been to you.
He remembers that his heart skipped a little at your smile.)
“Goodness, Tetsu, I keep forgetting just how tall you are,” his grandmother chuckles, craning her neck to get a good look at his face.
“Maybe you’re just shrinking,” Kuroo grins.
“Don’t even joke about that, my boy,” she laughs, shaking her head. “That’s a very real possibility at my age.”
She pokes her head through the doorway, catching sight of you slouched in your chair.
“You look exhausted, dear,” she smiles, tilting her head at you.
“I am,” you whine, stretching your arms over the desk. “Your grandson is a tyrant.”
“Perhaps you and Kenma should stage a coup,” she suggests, eyes twinkling. “Dethrone this despot king and free yourselves from his incessant nagging.”
“I don’t nag!”
“Oh, is that so?” her smile widens. “‘Oh, don’t forget to drink this whole bottle, Obaa-chan. It’s important to keep your fluids up – especially at your age,’” she coos, dropping her voice an octave or so in her best attempt to replicate Kuroo’s tone. “‘Oh, Obaa-chan, come take a walk with me! You’ve been sitting in front of the TV too long. Let’s get those old bones moving.’”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Kuroo grumbles, rubbing the back of his neck, “we get the picture.”
“‘Obaa-chan! You shouldn’t be up this late! You don’t wanna wear yourself out!’” She continues, cracking a grin.
“Okay, okay!” Kuroo grouches, a sour look on his face. “Point taken!”
“I’m just teasing,” she grins. “Goodnight, Tetsu. And goodnight, dear! Don’t let him boss you around!”
“Yes ma’am!” You bark cheerfully.
She chuckles, shaking her head. But she says nothing more, ambling out the door.
Kuroo sighs.
If anything, he’s just glad she didn’t poke fun at him for having a girl in his room. Though he’s well-aware he should be grateful for the fact that he's trusted enough to not have his family snooping on him every five minutes.
Besides, being alone together in a room doesn’t mean anything. Even if…
He swallows roughly, forcing his mind to go blank.
No space for unsavoury thoughts here. None at all.
He shuts the door with a firm slam, turning back to you with his best poker face.
“So,” he hums, ambling back over to you and glancing at the textbook laid out on the desk. “What do you want to focus on?”
“Well, I think it’s time for us to talk about Pride’s true identity—”
Kuroo tsks, shaking his head. “We’ve had enough Brotherhood for one evening.”
You whine, slouching back in your chair. “Just one more episode?”
“No,” he laughs. “If we keep putting this off, we’re just going to have more to stress about later.”
“Fine,” you sigh, sticking your tongue out at him. “You’re no fun.”
“I’m starting to think hiring you on as manager was a mistake,” he grins.
“Excuse me?” You gasp, affronted.
“You’re supposed to be responsible,” he chuckles. “You know – able to make good choices and all that.”
“I do make good choices,” you glare at him. “I just hate any and everything to do with maths.”
Kuroo snorts. To be fair, he’s had the sneaking suspicion that you might be much better at chemistry if it didn’t involve so much mathematics.
“Besides,” you huff, crossing your arms, “the first years would riot.”
“You mean Lev would riot.”
“I’m sure Inuoka would stick up for me,” you say. “And you don’t want to make Shibayama sad, do you?”
“I didn’t say anything about kicking you out,” Kuroo grins, raising an eyebrow at you.
“I know,” you hum. “Just making sure you’re aware.”
Kuroo rolls his eyes playfully, flicking your forehead. “Whatever.”
The two of you settle down after that, returning to your blasted enemy.
You do fairly well, all things considered. Your focus is a bit off, but you make a good effort. And, like always, you manage to understand Kuroo’s layman explanations of things.
Of course, the two of you can’t help yourself – your study is punctuated by straying conversations that last a little longer than they should (Kuroo’s a big believer in the fifteen-five-fifteen study method, but sometimes there’s simply too much to say; a mere five minutes doesn’t cover it). Sometimes you simply demand to see Inu-chan, not budging until you’d given the Akita a good pat.
But tonight, even Kuroo tires quickly. He figures it’s probably because you started so late; something he promises himself he’ll never let happen again. Although, he’s not willing to bet money on it.
“Alright, I’m gonna go get a drink,” he sighs, stretching his arms above his head as he stands up. His interlaced fingers almost brush the ceiling. “Did you want anything?”
“I’m okay, thanks,” you sigh, putting your pencil down.
You’ve got that look on your face. The one you get when you’re faced with a particularly confusing equation or a concept you need a bit of time to wrap your head around. Kuroo knows it well; it’s usually soon followed by a quiet confession of worry and doubt.
“Hey,” he murmurs, reaching out a hand and ruffling your hair gently. “You’re doing better than you think you are.”
He wishes he could do more for you, wishes he could kick those awful feelings out of your brain. But there’s not much more he can do than this.
You look up at him with wide eyes. Your features look so gentle in the light of his desk lamp, the shadows soft and diffused. You look fond.
Kuroo tries to ignore it.
“You think so?” You pout.
“Would I lie?” He chuckles.
You peer at him closely for a moment, leaning close.
Too close.
Close enough for him to make out the intricacies of your eye colour. Close enough that he’s sure you can feel just how hot his face has become. Close enough for his mind to wander to a place it really shouldn’t.
He stands up sharply before he’s even processed what’s going on.
“I’m, uh…” He clears his throat roughly, scratching the back of his neck with one hand. “I’m gonna go get some water.”
“Okay!” You nod, smiling sweetly at him.
He doesn’t let himself linger, rushing off to the kitchen and pouring himself a tall glass of water.
He gulps the whole thing down at breakneck speed. His punishment for such hastiness is a hiccup that lurches his whole chest. Well, at least it shifted whatever weird feeling was there before.
What time is it?
He turns to the clock on the kitchen wall.
His eyes blow wide.
Twelve thirty-six. Oh, shit. He ponders, for a moment, if the clock is a few hours fast.
With a little nugget of guilt in his chest, he rushes back upstairs to his bedroom.
He opens the door slowly, not wanting to disturb the house. He slips through just as quietly, turning to say something to you.
You're lying on the desk again. But this time, your head is laid on crossed arms, your back rising and falling gently with each breath.
Kuroo’s heart feels like it might damn well shatter.
His first instinct is to pick you up and put you on his bed.
His first coherent thought is ‘what the fuck, dude?’.
He slinks towards you and places a gentle hand on your shoulder. He flushes at the contact.
What are you, twelve? He chastises himself. You’ve touched each other plenty of times before.
He immediately regrets that phrasing.
“Hey,” he murmurs, shaking your shoulder slightly. “Wake up.”
You’re motionless.
“Hey,” Kuroo whines.
“Hm?” You croak, stirring a little.
Kuroo draws back.
You lift your head and blink at him through bleary eyes.
Holy shit, he thinks. Holy fucking shit.
“It’s past midnight,” he says, ruffling your hair on instinct. Why he made the effort to yet again make physical contact with you, he doesn’t know. It’s a terrible idea, really.
“Ew,” you frown. “No.”
Kuroo shoves both his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants. There’s no risk of him doing something stupid if he does that, right?
You’re staring at your phone, your eyebrows drawn together and your lips pursed.
He knows that look.
It’s the one you always pull when he (reluctantly) calls an end to whatever you’re doing before walking you home in the evening. And he doesn’t miss how you stick a little closer to him when it’s dark, or how you always seem to glance over your shoulder at each and every peculiar sound. And he certainly doesn’t miss how you ask him to text you to let you know he’s gotten home safe.
You don’t need to tell him that you don’t want to walk all that way in the dark.
“Do you just want to stay here tonight?” He asks. He loathes himself for the weird fuzziness that churns in his gut.
You pout at him. He’s seen that face enough times to know that it means ‘please.’
“Wait here,” he smiles.
He hurries to the laundry area, rifling through his grandmother’s pile of clean clothing. There’s no way he’s going to let you sleep in your school uniform; it can’t be comfortable, and the fabric doesn’t seem breathable.
He goes through the pile once. Twice. Three times.
Nothing. There’s nothing he can lend you for the evening.
“Shit,” he mumbles, running a hand through his hair. Surely there must be—
Oh no. Oh no.
He catches sight of a plain black shirt sitting atop his pile of clean clothes. His face suddenly feels very, very hot.
It’s fine, he thinks. It’s not a big deal. My heart is not racing at the thought of her wearing one of my clothes. It’s not.
He grabs the shirt with a certain boyish carelessness, as if to prove to himself that he’s not losing his mind.
Sure, the blurry image of you wearing one of his shirts keeps trying to barge its way to the forefront of his mind, but it’s fine. It’s fine. It’s just a teenage boy thing.
He stalks back to his room with the whisper of a scowl on his face. Man, he needs to go to sleep.
As he opens the door, he catches sight of you mid-stretch. Your face is screwed up like a cat’s, nose scrunched up and eyes screwed shut.
But you’re cute. How is that cute? Why is that expression so endearing?
I’m delirious, he surmises. Probably because it’s so late.
He holds the shirt out to you with a stiff arm. “Here.”
Would you find it weird, him giving you one of his own shirts to sleep in? Would you think he’s being creepy?
You just nod as you take it from him, holding it to your chest with two hands like it’s a blanket.
Ah. So he’s overthinking it. Like an idiot.
“Did you let your family know?” He asks, trying to distract himself from his own fraying thoughts.
You nod. “I called them.”
“And they’re… fine with it?” His eyes widen slightly. Their daughter, staying over a night at a boy’s house…
“They were more angry at me for waking them up,” you pout. “But they didn’t have any problems with it.”
Kuroo’s heart swells. He’s trusted – your parents don’t mind this little arrangement. He’s not quite sure why he’s so proud, but he lets himself bask in it.
“Hey, Tetsu?”
“Hm?”
“Could I please have some water?” You mumble, rubbing one of your eyes with your knuckles.
He dashes out of the room a little quicker than he usually would – almost like his body had moved on instinct to fulfil your request.
By the time he gets back to his room, you’ve finished changing.
Kuroo’s certain he’s going to explode.
His shirt is so big on you – it’s already a bit roomy on him – grazing your lower thighs and giving him the overwhelming desire to wrap his arms around you. Your eyes are half-lidded, your cheeks puffed out a little, your hair all messy and unkempt. You look so sleepy, so cute, so—
He thrusts the glass of water towards you, cringing as the liquid sloshes dangerously close to the lip of the cup.
“Thank you,” you smile, your face lighting up as you take it from you.
Kuroo doesn’t fail to notice how your fingers brush against his as you do so.
God, he really needs to get some sleep.
“You stay in here,” he swallows, gesturing to his room.
You blink at him for a moment before realising what he means. “Wait, really?”
He nods. “I’ll just sleep on the couch.”
“No—” You’re pouting at him, misplaced guilt shining in your eyes.
“It’s fine,” Kuroo grins, ruffling your hair on reflex. He swears he zaps his fingers. “Now, you get some sleep.
“Fine,” you mumble, glare-pouting at him. “But you’ll… you’ll pay for this.”
“Will I now?” His grin broadens.
“I will,” you nod, comically resolute. “Wait, no—no, you will.”
Kuroo laughs, ruffling your hair again and reaching to—
Woah. Woah.
Where’d this sudden urge to kiss you on the forehead come from? That’s… weird.
He draws his hand back quickly. He can’t risk doing anything stupid.
“Now sleep,” he tuts, pointing you to the bed. “But don’t forget to drink your water.”
“I know,” you huff, turning around and scuttling towards the bed.
Kuroo turns around sharply, making a beeline for the door. If seeing you in his shirt was enough to make his brain go haywire, then seeing you in his bed…
He’s pretty sure he throws you a ‘good night’ before pulling the door to his room firmly shut, but he can’t be certain. He’s too busy taking a deep breath, trying to filter all the unsavoury and alarming thoughts out of his brain.
You’re his friend. He’s not supposed to want to kiss you on the forehead, to hold you in his arms. Hell, you’d probably think it was weird enough that he finds you so damn cute. And God, the thought of making you uncomfortable…
The guilt roots itself deep as he grabs himself some blankets and pillows from the laundry cupboard, dragging himself towards the couch.
He throws himself onto it face first, trying to ignore the burn running through his body. It feels like he’s on fire – and that pouty, sleepy expression of yours is scorched on the back of his eyelids.
This is normal, he reasons. He’s just a normal, hormonal teenager who likes girls. And you, a dear and beloved friend, just so happens to be a girl. This is unfortunate, but it’s fine. It doesn’t mean anything more. Right?
You’re just friends. Nothing weird going on here.
Besides, it’s not his fault. Anyone would’ve been endeared by what he’d seen tonight.
You’re just too damn cute.
Right?
I Don’t Want to be a Princess
This is why I hate English. First week back after Christmas and I have to present my thoughts on Romeo and Juliet. I don’t know what my thoughts on Romeo and Juliet are. The only thing keeping me going while I talk is her.
She smiles at me. She keeps on smiling as I try my best to not stumble on my words. I’m halfway there. Mother would not be proud of me right now, Father would be even less proud, but I don’t care. She’s smiling at me.
The whole class is watching me and it reminds me of why I don’t want to be a princess. But she does. Focus on her. Her. On her school shirt that looks clean, but ever so slightly rumpled. On her fluffy hair that I know she hasn’t brushed today, despite Jamie’s annoyance. On the way she sits, leaning forward, always interested in what I’m saying. On her blue eyes, looking intently at me.
Oh God, oh God, I think I messed up. Too busy daydreaming and not enough focus on what I’m saying. But it’s okay, I’m nearly done now. Nearly done and then I’ll get to sit down, next to her. Someone else will go and talk and everyone will forget about me.
Everyone will forget about me. Except her. That’s the way I like it. Slip under the radar. If they remember me, they remember the cool as ice, fake front I put up. But she remembers me. My spirit, my soul, who I am underneath the mask.
One more sentence and I’m done. I finish talking. Ms Kuma claps and I walk back to my seat, head high. I can’t let them see me look weak. Except her. She’ll find out sooner or later.
I zone in and out of the class, my thoughts elsewhere. Her perfume filling the atmosphere. How my parents wish I would wear a perfume like that. No. I won’t. I only like the smell of perfume when it’s her. She smells so good. It smells like softness and warmth.
She puts her hand on mine. I know what this means. It means “I know there’s something on your mind, but you tell me when you’re ready.” It means she knows. But all I can think about is that her hand is on mine. She’s touching me. She starts to gently rub my hand. She knows I’m feeling anxious.
After waiting, and drifting away from class, she pulls me back when it ends.
“Ellie, come on, let’s go back now and we can study.”
She doesn’t mean actual studying. She means we’re going to relax tonight and watch a movie, but she can’t say that when Jamie is around. So we came up with a term so that he won’t know. Homework means homework, revision means revision, but studying means bliss.
We walk back slowly. We both know I don’t have the energy to walk as fast as normal right now. Jamie notices, he frowns at me. He knows something is off, but I won’t tell him. As long as I show up for training, and do what I’m supposed to, he won’t be angry.
I hate when he’s angry at me. It feels like my parents bottled some of their anger and carefully placed it into Jamie. I don’t want to be a princess. But she does.
We reach our dorm and she opens the door for me. The smell of her perfume, and the sight of my music collection brings me back to reality. I feel like I’m shaking off a nightmare.
“Ellie”, she says my name, “I don’t know what’s going on in that brain of yours, but I’m here if you want to tell me, okay?”
I nod. She smiles. Her smile feels like a warm hug. And then she is hugging me, her arms wrapped tightly around me. I don’t want her to let go. Eventually she does. But she holds my hand instead.
She sits me down on her bed, and hands me a cupcake that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. It’s got the prettiest buttercream icing with pink swirls and sugar flowers. The kind of cupcake she would delicately eat because she’s too scared to destroy it.
But I’m not like her. I devour the cupcake, she wipes the icing off my lips. I look at her lips. They look so kissable.
I love her. I love Lottie. My Lottie pumpkin.
I don’t want to be a princess. But she does. I want to be hers. I want to be her prince.
I want to be her prince.
Kiss and tell.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Sicheng x female reader.
Genre: College!au, babysitting, horror | Fluff, angst, mature content.
Warnings: Fingering (it’s not detailed, I don’t know how to write smut), orgasm denial, kind of fear inducing phone calls, mention of Sicheng selling drugs, strong language.
Plot: You have to babysit on Halloween night, and invite Sicheng to join you. But something feels wrong when the phone starts to ring.
Word count: +5.1k.
A/N: This is part of the 90′s love collab by @quokkacore and formely by @/etherealereine | This is inspired by an urban legend. | The title has nothing to do with the story, I came up with the idea after.
Tumblr media
"What are we doing tonight?"
You are startled when you feel hands on your waist from behind, and if you were not so acquainted with the perfume immediately intoxicating your sense, you would have freed yourself from the sudden embrace. "I don't know what you are doing, but I am working tonight."
The warmth against your back disappears, and you meet your boyfriend's gaze. "Working? It is Halloween, you can't work." he answers, and you scoff, pushing him away when he tries to grab your book. "Care to tell me how I am supposed to pay for food if I don't work?" he seems to think about ir, running his fingers through his hair.
"Why don't you ask your parents? You'll go back to work next week." you knew what he was about to say even before he opened his mouth. Not that he is an open book, but because it is a recurring conversation between you. "You think my parents are going to give me money to cover what I didn't get today, just because I preferred to go party and spend my saving in alcohol?"
"Why not?" you heave a sigh, you love your boyfriend, of course you do, but you are tired of this kind of conversation. It leads to the same ending every time. "Because my parents are not yours, Sicheng. If your parents can take care of all of your expenses despite you being an adult, mine can't."
"They do not cover all of my expenses! I work too, I have money of my own!" he says, a hand on his heart in faux offense. "Selling bad quality drugs is not a job, Sicheng, it is false advertising and tricking naive kids who think they will become cool if they get high before class."
"Now you are just being mean, Y/n." Sicheng sighs, and you shrug. "I just need to you to understand that I need to work, I can't call my parents for money when I feel like it. So I'm sorry, but you'll have to find something to do tonight, because I am not going out."
"Alright, whatever." he answers, and even though you were expecting him to leave and sulk, he stays. "I'm sorry, baby, I just wanted to have one last Halloween with you, that's all." you roll your eyes, and you put your hands on his cheeks. "You need to stop being dramatic, Sicheng. This is our last Halloween as students, not our last Halloween as a whole, except if you plan on breaking up with me once we graduate."
When he pursues his lips, and seems to think about it, you hit his shoulder. "Eh! Do you really have to think about it?" he tries to stay stoic, but he fails, because a smile brightens his face right away. "Of course I do not need to think about it! Why would I break up with you? Dummy."
"You are an idiot, Dong Sicheng." you mumble, and he leans to kiss the tip of your nose. "I am your idiot." he whispers, and you pretend to gag. "That's disgusting, what is wrong with you?" he rolls his eyes and he takes a step back. "So there is nothing I can do, or say to have you by my side tonight?"
"Nothing, I'm sorry." you are not really sorry, because you know your work is way more important than whatever party he was planning on bringing you to. "But," you start, and he straightens up. "maybe you could stop by around 10pm, to spend a little bit of time with me, what do you think?"
Sicheng's eyes widen and he cocks his head to the side. "Wait, really?" you nod, and you wonder when he is going to jump in place from the excitement you can see in his eyes. "You never asked me to come!" of course you never did, and for many reasons, but why not? "I know, but at least we'll be able to spend Halloween together. Okay, there will not be alcohol, or music, but we'll be together."
"I don't care about the alcohol or the music!" he exclaims, and you chuckle. "Alright then, come at around 10." you take a pencil out of your bag, and Sicheng hands ou his hand so you can write the address on the palm of his hand. "Don't lose it, I don't know their phone number so I won't be able to call you to give it again."
"Do not worry, I'm not going to use my hand at all!" he answers, and you heave a sigh. "You have class this afternoon, and you use this hand to write." he shrugs as he looks at the black ink bleed a bit onto his skin. "I won't write then, I'll listen, and remember everything." this is impossible, especially for Sicheng who can't focus for more than five minutes at time, but you trust him.
"Sicheng, we are going to be late, are you coming?" the young man turns around when he hears Johnny's voice behind him. "Yeah yeah, I'm coming." he gets up from the bench and he swings his backpack onto his right shoulder. "I have to go practice, but I'll see you later, alright?"
"I don't think I'll have time to wait for you after class, so you'll see me tonight, at 10. You better be on time, or I'm going to bed without you, alright?" he nods with fervor, and he leans to kiss you gently on the lips. "I'm never late."
"Careful with your hand!" you yell as he starts to run towards his friends who wolfwhistle at the public display of affection. "Promise!" he answers, and you are pretty sure you hear him curse at his friends before disappearing.
You put your book back in your bag, and you get up. Your afternoon classes are quite boring, but now that you know you will see Sicheng tongiht, it does not sound so bad.
"Alright, let's go over the rules one last time," the older woman says as she walks around the house to pick up random things off of the floor. "the kids have to do their homework, take their shower, and be ready to eat by 7 o'clock." you know better than to follow her around, so you hum to let her know that you are listening.
"I trust you to make them something healthy for dinner," she adds, and for the first time in five minutes, she finally stops walking. "you can take whatever you want from the fridge if you are hungry, or thirsty, make yourself at home."
"They are not allowed to watch television, candy either. They have to be in bed by 8:30, and because it is Friday, you can let them read, or play until 9, then you'll put them to bed and turn off the lights." she reads over a list of numbers she hands you. "This is the number of the restaurant, and the emergency numbers if you ever need them, which I hope you won't have to use."
"You can watch the television when the kids are in bed, and if you want to sleep, you can use the guest bedroom next to the downstair bathroom." the woman takes her coat, so you get up from the stool. "You can give one piece of candy per kids coming tonight, and I'll try not to come home too late."
"You need to relax," you say, and the lady takes a deep breath. "this is not the first time looking over the twins, I know what to do, I know the rules, and you can trust me, I'll respect them. Enjoy your date." the older woman puts her hand on your shoulder, and she nods. "I trust you, good evening. Kids, be good with Y/n!"
The two kids agree from the living room where they are playing, and the lady opens the door before disappearing in the car who's been waiting for her for at least ten minutes now. You close the door, and you join the boys in the living room.
"Alright kiddos, it is time to do your homework!" they both whine, because "it's friday, we can do them sunday" but in the end, you succeed, and you watch with a certain pride as they work on their calculus worksheet.
You, and the twins jump when you hear the doorbell, and you turn on your seat. It is probably children trick or treating, and you feel bad for leaving the twins alone, because they are not trick or treating, they are doing their homework, and it is sad, they should be allowed to be outside, in their little costumes instead of doing math.
"I'll be right back." you say as you stand up. You grab the bowl of candy, and you open the door. Three little vampires are watching you expectantly. "Oh my, I almost had a heart attack!" you gasp when they hiss and you try to stay quiet as the young man walking them around the neighborhood looks ready to die of embarrasment.
"Here you go." you drop candy in each of their little basket, and you close the door. Before putting the bowl back near the door, you pick a couple of candy and you put them on the table. "Let's make a deal, if you do not say anything to your mother, I'll let you have these candy."
"Deal!" the twins shout together, and you chuckle as you hand them the candy. "If you finish your math in the next five minutes, you'll have time to take a shower, and watch tv for a little while before dinner."
You know you should listen to the mother's rules, but you want to see them smile. You want them to feel comfortable around you, and how do you get kids' trust? You break one or two rules, and you let them do what they are usually not allowed to do.
Pretty quickly, the math homework are done, and the kids are in the shower. They are old enough to be left alone in the bathroom, you know they won't flood the room, well, at least, you hope they won't. You do not want to have to wipe the floor.
You soon find yourself busy cooking something for the twins that you forget all about Sicheng probably getting ready to meet you, if he did not lost the address like you said he would. At least, it gives you the opportunity to focus on what you are doing, and when the twins are back in their pajamas, the meal is not burnt, which is a victory.
"Veggies?" one of them says with a wince, and you sigh as you put the plates in front of them. "Your mother said to eat something healthy, it's good, trust me." you do not trust yourself on your cooking skills, but you can't say that to the kids or they'll end up spitting the food back into their plates, and thank you but no thank you.
During the meal, you have to stand up a few times to open the door to give candy to the children, and sometimes to college students trying to see if they still can get candy. Spoiler alert: they can.
And before you know it, the kids are in bed, and you are on the couch, all alone in this big house. A horror movie is screening on the television, but you barely watch it, your eyes are stuck on the clock above the doorframe leading to the staircase.
Ten more minutes, you think, smiling to yourself.
Tumblr media
10:42 pm.
Sicheng is either late, lost, or could not read the address on his hand after practice. You wonder if you should sleep until the twins's mother comes back from her date, or if you should wait a few more minutes to give Sicheng the benefit of the doubt.
But when then more minutes pass, you stand up.
You grab the almost empty bowl of candy, and you settle it on the kitchen island, and you walk to the front door to make sure it is locked, and you are startled when you see two eyes looking at you through the window, but you heave a sigh of relief when you recognize Sicheng's smile.
"You are late, I shouldn't even let you in." you mumble as you open the door, and the young man takes a step forwards, until he is close enough that his nose almost touches yours. "I am late, you are right, but I am also crazy handsome tonight, so I know you will not leave me hanging in the dark and the cold. he answers, and you hate how right he is.
"What were you doing? Drinking with the boys? Hooking up with a mysterious disguised girl you found in Taeyong's basement?" he shakes his head, and you push yourself away from the door to let him pass. "I did drink a beer with the boys, but there was no mysterious girl in Taeyong's basement, just a rat."
You roll your eyes and you close the door. "We can't make noise, the twins are sleeping, and as much as I love you, their mother pays me well, so I don't want to lose them." you explain, and when you turn, you find yourself pressed against the wooden door. "You are the one who has to stay quiet, not me."
"I'm always quiet." Sicheng scoffs but before you can say anything to defend yourself, he kisses you. The kiss has nothing sweet to it, but you don’t mind one bit.
"Couch." you say after breaking the kiss for air, but Sicheng shakes his head. "We've done it once against the door, never again!" Sicheng seems to remember, and he starts to laugh so you hit him in the chest until he takes a step back.
"There is absolutely nothing funny about it! It was painful!" you mumble, but he thinks otherwise. He falls down on the couch, and before you can join him, the phone rings and you jump. The ringing comes from the kitchen, and it is so loud. It echoes against the walls, so you run to pick up, not wanting to wake up the twins.
"Are you even allowed to answer the phone?" Sicheng asks, shoulder pressed against the doorframe leading to the kitchen. "I don't know, maybe." you let a sigh of relief when the phone stops ringing, and you tense for a second when Sicheng wraps his arms around your waist. "So where were we."
You are about to turn around when the phone rings again, and you pick up right away. "Hello?" the other side of the line is silent, and you wonder if you should hang up, but soon, you hear a heavy breathing that brings shiver down your spine. "Hello? Can I help you? Miss Lee is absent at the moment."
"Have you checked on the kids?" the voice asks, and you frown. "What? Who are you?" feeling Sicheng's breathing against the back of your neck is not helping right now, and you try to shug him off of you. "You should check on the kids."
"But why?" before you can get an answer, the person hangs up. "What the fuck." you whisper, putting the phone back on its set. "What's up?" Sicheng asks, and you shake your head. "I don't know, someone asking me if I checked on the kids."
Sicheng hums, and you turn on your heels to face him. "That's probably a prank, you know, it's Halloween, and teenagers like to scare their neighbors." he is not wrong, you both did this kind of prank when you were still in high school.
"Come on, forget about it." he takes your hand, and he leads you back to the living room. He pushes you gently on the couch, and you settle on your back, Sicheng hovers over you, one leg on the couch, and the other on the floor for stability. His lips are close to yours, and you break the distance by taking his lower lip between your teeth, and he groans a little too loudly.
"I thought we had to be quiet." you say, and he rolls his eyes, his finges wandering underneath your top to feel how warm your skin feels against the coldness of his fingertips. "yeah yeah, whatever." his lips slide along your neck, mouthing at your jaw, and each bite is soothed by his tongue right away.
You close your eyes, trying to lose yourself into the feeling of Sicheng's mouth and fingers, but you can't quite get rid of the feeling in the pit of your stomach. You can't seem to forget about the sound of the breathing on the other side of the phone. Teenagers or not, it was scary.
When Sicheng opens his mouth to speak, you realize that you completely zoned out, and you look up at him. "What?" he sighs, and you feel his fingers against the button of your pants. "Can I?" he asks, and you nod. You definitely need to change your mind, and you know Sicheng's fingers are going to do wonders.
He prompts himself on one hand, and he uses the other to pop open the button of your pants, and to slide the zipper down, way too slowly for your liking. "Come on, don't be a tease." you whisper, and he chuckles. "Eager, aren't we?" little shit.
Sicheng likes to tease, but he decides otherwise tonight, as his hand slides inside of your pants and panties, fingers already through your  folds. "Don't worry, I'll make you feel good." he whispers against your ear, and you bite your lower lip. His voice is so low, you would give everything you have to hear it more often.
(I’m bad at smut, so we’re leaving it at that, sorry.)
"Don't stop, please, I'm- I'm so fucking close." you say, and he tries to move his fingers deeper, but with your pants and panties around your thighs, it is hard for him to move as much as he would like, but he makes do. "Sicheng, Sicheng, Sicheng." you repeat his name, and he smirks. This is the most beautiful song he has ever heard.
You open your eyes wide when Sicheng stops moving, denying you of the orgasm you've been chasing for the past five minutes. "What the fuck?" you exclaim, and you notice how Sicheng's eyes veered towards the front door. "Did you hear?"
"Hear what?" you ask with clear annoyance in your voice, and you feel like crying when he pulls his fingers out and clean them on your pants, which is disgusting. He stands up, not even bothering to help you and he stops in front of the door. "I heard something."
How did he hear anything over your moans? You straighten up, buttoning your pants back and when you feel like your legs are back to normal, no longer shaking and feeling like jelly, you join him. He has his ear against the door, and he puts his index finger against his lip for you to stay quiet.
Once again, the phone rings, and makes you jump. Your heart misses a few beats, and it is honestly ready to jump out of your ribcage. "Do I answer?" you ask, your breathing quickening. "Yes, go." so you do just that. You go back to the kitchen and you pick up the phone.
You hear the heavy breathing right away this time, and even a chuckle when your own breathing hitches in your throat. The voice is masculine, there is no doubt. "Who are you? What do you want?" panic can be heard in your voice, and you do not even bother trying to sound calm.
"Did you check on the kids?" you close your eyes, trying your hardest not to hang up and lock yourself in one of the rooms of the house for the rest of the night. "It's just a prank, nothing more." you tell yourself, and when the man laughs, a real hearthy laugh this time, you realize that you said it out loud.
"Come on, this if your job as a babysitter, making sure the kids are alright. You wouldn't want anything to happen to them, right?" you shake your head even though no one is here to see it. "Check on the kids!" this time the voice is louder, and as cold as the bead of sweat rolling down your back.
"How do you-" before you can ask your question, you hear the beep signaling that the person has hung up. "Sicheng?" you turn around, but the young man is nowhere to be seen. You wander in the living room, and in the bathroom, but he is not here. "Sicheng, where are you?" you ask in a loud whisper, but you get nothing.
A kick on the living room window makes you scream, you cover your eyes with your hands, as if not seeing what happens would make it stop. "Please, please, please." you do not want to fucking die, not here, and not after being denied a fucking orgasm. When a hand lands on your shoulder, you turn and attack without looking at who or where you are hitting.
"Stop, Y/n, it's me!" Sicheng whines, taking a step back. When you open your eyes, you see him holding his stomach. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" he asks, shaking his head. "What? You were gone, and someone knocked on the window, so I got scared!" you say, frantic.
"I was in the restroom and I didn't hear any knock." he answers right away, letting his arms fall back on his sides. "What was the sound you heard?" you ask, tilting your head to the side, you need to know, or you are going to cry on the spot. Well, you are already crying, you can feel tears running down your cheeks.
"Calm down baby, it was nothing, just a loud engine. I'm sorry if I scared you." he takes a step forwards, drying the tears on your face with his thumbs. "Calm down, it's okay." you shake your head, looking around. You came here so many times, and yet, this is the first time you do not feel comfortable in this house.
"This is not okay! Some madman is calling me, asking me to check on the kids, someone knocked on the window, this is not fucking okay!" he takes a deep breath, and he tries to smile, but he realizes that it might not be enough to reassure you. "It's just kids playing a trick on you."
"Well, they need to stop because it's not fucking funny, Halloween or not!" your voice breaks into a sob, and he pulls you against his chest. "Don't worry, if they call back, I'll answer and I'll tell them to stop before I find them and kick their ass, I do not care what age their are, I'll do it."
"Sit down." you sit down on a stool around the kitchen island, and he opens the fridge to pour a glass of water that he hands you. "Take a dreep breath, it's fine, alright?" you nod, sipping on the water. You are honestly surprised none of the kids came down to see what was going on after you screamed.
Wait.
You know the twins, and you know they are light sleepers. They would have woken up by now, you stand up, maybe a little too quickly because you see stars dancing, and Sicheng is quick to be by your side, trying to help you find your balance. "What is going on?" he asks, he sounds genuinely worried this time.
"The kids. There is something wrong with the kids! I screamed, they should be up, they never sleep over loud noises!" Sicheng stops you when you stry to walk to the staircase. "The man on the phone told me to check on them, what if he found a way in, and did something to them and that is why they are not waking up?"
"Come on, don't be silly. They are probably sleeping, they probably did not even hear you scream. This is a prank, Y/n, just a prank!" he sounds angry, and you frown. Sicheng is hard to anger, so it is not normal for him to react so quickly. Well, it is maybe not anger, but it is definitely impatience that you hear.
"Stay here, I'll go check on them if that makes you feel better. I won't wake them up, so they'll never know I was here." he forces you back down on the stool, and in less than twenty seconds, he is gone. You can hear the floor creaking under his weight, and you know when he stops to check the multiple doors.
Of course, of fucking course, now that Sicheng is gone, the phone rings again. You try to ignore it, you really try, but the sound is awful. It is loud, and it hurts your ears, so you have no choice than to stand up and picks up. "What the fuck do you want? The kids are fine! Who are you?"
The man giggles, and you hear nothing else for a minute or so. "Did you check on the kids yourself? Because you definitely should." you can't take it anymore, you have to know. You hang up, and you go up the stairs, you do not mind if you die, you just need to know what the fuck is going on, and who is playing with you.
One thing is sure, if you survive, and find whoever decided to play this little game, you are going to make his life a living hell.
Once you are upstairs, you stop in front of the kids' door. The door is closed, and once again, Sicheng is nowhere to be seen. You really wonder what he is doing, but of couse, you do not think he might have anything to do with what's been going on.
"Come on, you can do it." you push the door open, trying not to make it creaks, because you do not feel like explaining what is going on to two scared kids. The room is dark, but it is quiet. You hear their regular breaths and you could cry ouf ot relief. Sicheng was right, it is nothing but a prank.
You close the door, and start to go down the stairs. Something feels off, you think. You know the feeling of being watched even when you are supposed to be alone? Yeah, that's what you feel right now, but when you look over your shoulder, you see nothing but a long dark hallway. Maybe that's the problem. The constent darkness.
"Fucking hell." you almost trip over your own feet when a scratching sound is heard against one of the walls. You jump the last few steps, and fortunately, you fall back on your feet, but the pain in your ankles is almost too much.
"Have you checked on the kids?"
You turn your head so quick towards the voice that you know you'll be in pain tomorrow, and your eyes meet.."Johnny? What the fuck!" you exclaim, and the man laughs. This is the laugh you heard on the phone, but you did not recognize it with the constant sizzling. He is not alone in the living room, your friends are all there too.
"What?" you turn and see Sicheng halfway down the stairs, smiling like an idiot. "Happy Halloween my love!" you frown, and you let yourself fall on your butt. "You couldn't be there for Halloween, so we decided to bring Halloween to you."
You want to cry, but you also want to beat them. "I hate you all so fucking much. You have no idea how scared I was!" you look up at Sicheng who crouches down in front of you. "Is this why you were late? Is this why you disappeared earlier?" he nods, unable to stop smiling.
"Yeah, I had to open the back door for them." he leans in to kiss your forehead, and you close your eyes at the contact. You should be mad at him right now, but you are too tired for that. That's a problem for future you, and also for future Sicheng. He is going to regret that.
"I hope you had fun, because it is over." you mumble as you stand up. You open the door, head tilted to the side, glancing at your friends one by one. "It is time to go home, you too Sicheng." Sicheng's eyes open so wide it is almost comical. You need to be alone to recover, because you are pretty sure your heart has not beat normally for an hour.
"What? Why?"
"Because I do not want to see you right now!" he nibbles on his lower lip, probably waiting for you to laugh, but you stay still. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you would freak out so much." he tries to explain, but you shake your head. He needs a taste of his own medicine. "I don't care, Sicheng, we'll talk about it later."
If Johnny sees you smile when Sicheng lowers his head, he says nothing about it, he just winks at you. They all get ready to leave the house when the phone rings, and they all stop dead in their tracks. "Oh come on, you are going to wake up the kids at some point, that's not funny."
"That's not us." you heave a long sigh, of course it is one of them. They probably asked another basketball player to help them out, so you walk to the kitchen and you take the phone. "What?" the breathing sounds different this time, and the voice is too. Lower than Johnny's, raspier even. "I think it is time for you to really check on the kids." you roll your eyes. "The kids are fine."
You turn to watch your friends when you hang up, and this time and you see something you have never seen in them: fear.
A Study Session to Remember
Author’s Note: 1.3k. Light swearing as always. Lots of big tests and projects are coming up for people, so this is just a very chill and calm, little mini fic of studying with Hanma. It’s Hanma x Y/n. I tried making Y/n gender neutral by using they/them. It maybe seems a little chunky for me, but hopefully it’s okay for others.
I listened to this playlist and this playlist while writing. They are my favorite relaxing playlists at the moment for background noise, so hopefully, if you decide to check them out, they can offer some calm. Good luck to everyone studying!
“Okay, so… if I did this… then that would mean I have to carry this number here… and then this cancels… and so… the answer would be… 22!” Y/n looked up from the study guide proudly, eyeing Hanma expectantly.
“Eeeeh.” Hanma mimicked a buzzard, and Y/n groaned, raising the back of their hand to feel the gentle “flick” of punishment for yet another wrong answer.
“What’s the answer? What did I do wrong?” Y/n wailed softly, careful to not wake up parents that were sleeping just down the hall.
“No idea.” Hanma shrugged. “I never got this far in math. But, I did get far enough in reading to know that the answer was supposed to be 35.”
“What the fuck?” Y/n whispered, looking back down at the study guide. Y/n stared and stared, but could not find where the mistake had occurred. Unless they were wrong from the very beginning, and used the wrong formula altogether… but no, this had to be the right formula, Ms. Collins had said… “I can’t figure it out.” Y/n breathed, their fingers pulling at their hair. “I… I can’t do this. The test is on Monday, I only have tonight and tomorrow to figure this out, get everything done, plus I still have other tests to study for and that presentation, and how the hell am I supposed to-” Y/n’s voice rose, growing more and more shaky.
“Stop.” Hanma held up both of his hands. “Pack your shit, let’s go.”
“Go where?” Y/n asked dully, not looking up at him. They could feel panic tears prickling at the corners of their eyes. They continued to stare at their review sheet. “I don’t have time to go anywhere, I need to focus, I need to-”
“You need to pack your shit. We’re going.” Hanma replied again firmly.
“My parents would freak if they discovered I was gone. They would never allow it.”
“Yeah, and I’m a ‘bad influence’ and am ‘not allowed back inside this house after I accidentally set off a firework inside’, remember? I’m not even supposed to be helping you study. Just say you went to a friend’s house, lie, I don’t care. But let’s go.” Hanma paused. Y/n’s head snapped upward to stare in horror at Hanma at the sound of a soft click. “Or I’ll burn everything.” The fire from Hanma’s lighter flickered in his eyes.
“You wouldn’t dare…” Y/n asked through narrow eyes. Hanma raised an eyebrow. Yes. Yes, he absolutely would, and Y/n had been working on all of this homework for days, and they could not afford for Hanma to burn it all, no matter how satisfactory it would be to watch. Y/n threw all their work into a bag, found some shoes, and stood up. “Where are we going?” They asked tiredly.
“Grab your bag, let’s go.” Hanma repeated, once again ignoring Y/n.
Several minutes and broken branches later, they were both standing by Hanma’s bike. “Here.” Hanma held out his helmet for Y/n to take. Y/n looked at him puzzled.
“Don’t you need that since you’re the driver?”
“Nope. I’m not the one with 5 tests and a presentation this week. You need your brain with all the insides put together and protected a lot more than I do right now, so wear the goddamn helmet, and let’s go.” Y/n put the helmet on with a roll of their eyes, and off they went, zigzagging through the cool night air.
A few minutes later found them waiting at a red light in front of a 7-11. Hanma looked at it in thought, and when the light turned green, drove into the parking lot. Without a word, he hopped off the bike, and went inside. He came back out with one full looking bag, handed it to Y/n, and off they continued.
Y/n’s mind was still fixated on all of their work. A test on Monday, test on Tuesday, a quiz and a test Wednesday, a presentation, a… Over and over again they repeated the memorized schedule. A test… Monday… test… Tuesday… a quiz… look at the stars.
With the roar of the bike never having sounded so gentle, Y/n rested their chin on Hanma’s back, gazing upwards. One arm cradled the plastic 7-11 bag, the other tightened ever so slightly on Hanma’s waist. At Y/n’s sigh, Hanma spared a quick glance back, saw the sense of peace finally reaching Y/n’s eyes, and started to steer the bike in a new direction.
Stars, traffic lights, headlights… they all flashed in a blur. Appearing too close, too bright… and then they were gone. Just like these stupid tests… maybe everything will be fine…
Hanma cleared his throat. “We’re here.” Y/n’s eyes returned to earth. Y/n looked around, confused.
“We’re at… school?”
“Yup, come on.” Hanma hopped off the bike, helped Y/n off, and casually strolled to the back of the building, hands buried deep in his pockets. Y/n nervously followed along.
“Hanmaaa,” Y/n whispered as Hanma started to mess with a window. “What are you doing?” Hanma continued to ignore Y/n. Finally, the window opened with a loud screech. Y/n jumped. Hanma lifted himself through the window, and when Y/n made to follow he held a hand up, and shut the window. Dude… what the fuck are you thinking, Hanma?
“Psst… Y/n! Over here!” Hanma waved at Y/n from a door a few feet away. Y/n made their way to Hanma, and resisted the urge to once again ask what the fuck they were doing. I’m just along for the ride, no matter where it leads. Instead, Y/n asked a different question.
“Hanma, how did you know that window would be unlocked?”
“Who do you think pranked the school last year by removing all the classroom number plaques? Who do you think put copies of their ass plastered all over the principal's windows?” Hanma smirked.
Y/n looked at him aghast. “No…”
Hanma shrugged. “It’s not like he could tell each student to pull their pants down so he could compare. Besides… My ass is pretty cute.” His smirk widened into a full on shit eating grin. Y/n rolled their eyes.
They stopped in front of Y/n’s math class. Hanma headed inside. He finally took the bag from Y/n, and layed out its contents. Y/n’s favorite mango drink. Hanma’s favorite coffee drink. A few onigiri. Various candies and chocolates. Two water bottles.
“To answer your persistent questions, yes, we are at the school, yes I’ve broken in here frequently. It is one of the places where I get the best sleep, so I come here when I can’t figure out where else to crash.” Hanma stated matter of factly. “You are stressing about your tests. You can’t remember things that you did well in class. So, here we are. We are in your classroom. Study here. Write on the board, walk around the room, remember how it was in class. You like to focus here, why not come back to study? Later, we can go to the room where your presentation will be. That way you’ll know what it feels like to speak at the front of the room. I can’t say I won’t fall asleep, but hey, at least you’ll be prepared to see that for your speech… On second thought, you’ll be fantastic, so no one will fall asleep during it.” Hanma winked at Y/n. “What do you say? We have drinks, fuel, … feel ready to start studying again?”
Y/n nodded. “Thank you.” They said, the words catching in their throat at the thoughtfulness Hanma had put into this little adventure.
Hanma held up his hands. “Don’t thank me yet. Thank me after you pass your tests.” After a moment he added, “I do like to be thanked in snacks…”
“And you will be.” Y/n sat now, newly invigorated, pulling out their study guides and textbooks. Hanma strolled over to the teacher’s desk, made himself comfy, and closed his eyes.
It was a productive night for the both of them.
    Sirius Black walked out onto the deck of the Astronomy tower, gently shutting the heavy wooden door behind him. He paused to look around for a moment, breathing in the earthy scent of early Spring, before he spotted his reason for coming up here.
He couldn’t help the smile pulling at his lips at the sight of Remus Lupin. Remus was leaning against the inner wall of the tower with a plaid blanket underneath him, focused and scribbling on a scroll of parchment, a textbook in his lap to keep the paper flat.
“Hey, Rem,” Sirius called out loudly as he walked over.
Remus jumped, then cursed under his breath when he saw the big ink splotch he’d just created on his star chart.
“Shit, I thought you heard me,” Sirius said apologetically as he got closer.
“No, I didn’t,” Remus replied, smiling up at him, “You’re as quiet as Padfoot when you want to be.” He took out his wand to clear up the ink and asked, “What are you doing here?”
“Keeping you company, of course,” he shrugged nonchalantly and sat down next to Remus. Remus had permission to be up here after hours to finish his Astronomy project, which the rest of the class had done, unfortunately, on the evening of the full moon a few nights ago. Sirius technically only had an hour until he was supposed to be back at Gryffindor tower, but it’s not like he hadn’t broken one or two school rules before, and he happened to be with a Prefect who tended to look the other way when his friends got into trouble. Remus didn’t seem surprised or bothered by his presence.
Sirius stretched out his legs and crossed them at the ankle as he looked out at the breathtaking landscape in front of them. The sky was painted in brilliant shades of orange and pink from the sun, which was just setting over the grassy hills. The ghost of an incomplete moon loomed above the impressive castle turrets.
Remus was watching Sirius. The cool evening breeze brushed his inky black hair away from his face, and there was a contented smile on his mouth that Remus found very distracting. He was just wishing that Sirius would look at him the way he looked at the beautiful sunset- when he did.
“What?” Sirius asked with a quirked eyebrow, his voice soft but amused.
“Oh, er,” Remus fumbled, “It’s just not often I see you admire the finer things in life.” He smiled quickly, gesturing at the sunset, then looked away, embarrassed at being caught doing his own admiring.
Sirius tilted his head to the side as a cheeky grin spread across his face.
“You see me look in the mirror every day, Moony.”
Remus snorted and rolled his eyes.
“Prat,” he said, smacking his arrogant friend’s arm.
“You know, Remus,” Sirius continued in a haughty voice, “I’ve been appreciating the finer things in life since the first time I saw my reflection in something shiny.”
“Really, Padfoot?” Remus put his ink and parchment down beside him and tried very hard to keep a straight face, “What, when you were a baby?”
“Yes,” Sirius laughed as Remus shoved him again, now attempting to tackle him onto the ground, “I distinctly remember looking in the mirror and thinking, ‘Who is that stunning baby staring back at me with those dreamy-’  Ow!”
Remus had elbowed him in the side.
Struggling to level a threatening glare at the werewolf, he threw his force into flipping Remus over on his back.
“Ha,” he exclaimed triumphantly as he looked down at his friend, successfully pinned beneath him.
“Get off!” Remus cried half-heartedly, trying to squirm out from under Sirius, but the boy on top had clamped down on Remus’ arms above his head.
“Nope, I’m forcing you to appreciate this finer thing, Moonshine,” said Sirius, wiggling his eyebrows.
Remus rolled his eyes again and stilled.
“Yes, yes,” he said, voice dripping with sarcasm, “you’re the most gorgeous creature to ever grace the halls of Hogwarts and we’re all lucky to have the pleasure of looking at your stunning form every day.”
Sirius gave a fake flattered gasp.
“Such a charmer, Mr. Lupin,” he said, batting his lashes provocatively, “and having you in this compromising position… One could almost swoon.”
“Who says I’m the one in a compromising position, Mr. Black?”
Sirius blinked at the wicked gleam in Remus’ eye, and Remus took advantage of his hesitation, rolling over with lightning speed and surprising strength so that he was now on top of Sirius.
“You were saying?” Remus asked innocently.
“Definitely swooning,” Sirius beamed.
Remus knew he was joking, but something in Sirius’ eyes made his stomach contract in a not-entirely-unpleasant way.
They were definitely looking at each other for too long now.
“I have to work on my star chart,” Remus said, a little embarrassed at how unsteady his voice sounded.
“And is my ‘stunning form’ distracting you from doing that?” Sirius asked in a low voice, with a wink.
“Right, I’m fairly certain I’m immune to your form after seeing too bloody much of it over the years,” Remus teased as he climbed off Sirius and moved over to prop himself up against the wall again.
“So you’ve been looking, Moony?”
“Only in my peripherals, Padfoot,” Remus replied, studiously avoiding Sirius’ eye as he picked up his book and parchment, placing them back in his lap, “You walk around the dorm starkers most of the time.”
“I like to air-dry my bits,” Sirius stated, as if that were a normal thing to do, and sat up facing Remus, leaning back on his hands. “You’re welcome to look, you know,” he added with a smile that should be illegal.
Remus scowled at Sirius, but couldn’t hide the rosy warmth that had spread along his cheeks.
“You’re quite cute when you blush, Moonshine.”
“I am not-”
Sirius’ smile grew even wider and Remus knew it was because his blush had deepened. Remus looked back down at his parchment and made a point of carefully flattening out the creases.
“It’s generally not considered polite to point that out to someone. It only ever makes them blush more,” he said in a measured tone.
“Yes, and as I’ve just told you how very cute you look when you blush, why should I refrain from making that happen?”
Remus glared at him through narrowed eyes. The dazzling smile on the other boy’s face did nothing to help his pink cheeks.
“I need to focus,” he said, looking back down at his paper and dipping the tip of his quill in the pot of ink.
“Stars aren’t out yet, Moons.”
“I can see that, Pads,” Remus replied with the patient air of someone speaking to a child, “But I have to finish setting up the chart so that all I have to do, when the stars do come out, is plot them.”
“Okay then,” Sirius said pleasantly, taking off his jacket and bunching it under his head as he lay down next to Remus.
“What are you doing?”
“Settling in,” Sirius replied, finding a comfortable position, “I told you, I’m here to keep you company.”
“You don’t need to…”
“I know I don’t need to, Remus."
Remus eyed him for a moment, biting the inside of his cheek, and then went back to work.
After a few minutes of pretending to doze, Sirius turned his head minutely and looked at Remus through his lashes. He sighed inwardly at his oblivious, beautiful friend.
The sunset gleamed off the werewolf’s scars, giving them an other-worldly shimmer, and his lips parted as his focus settled on his work. His shoulders were more rigid than usual, probably still stiff from his recent furry transformation, but he looked content, apparently enjoying what he was concentrated on.
Sirius’ eyes flicked down to Remus’ hands. He loved watching those long fingers, delicate but strong. His mind wandered against his will to images of what those hands might be capable of, and where exactly he wanted them, especially all alone up here in the Astronomy tower. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, pushing those forbidden thoughts away.
Sirius had been shamelessly flirting with Remus since the start of term, which, granted he did with many people, but he recently realized how much he actually enjoyed making Remus blush, or the way Remus would shake his head and try not to smile at his antics, or even the way Remus would get exasperated with him and give a long drawn-out sigh. He realized he looked forward to those moments more than Quidditch or even pranking the Slytherins. Which was why he’d come up here tonight; just to be around Remus and try to make him laugh or roll his eyes.
The problem was that he didn’t know how Remus felt. But sometimes...Remus would look away from him too quickly, or not quickly enough, and he could swear there was something between them. Something intense and exciting.
Eventually, Sirius found the dimming sky and melodic scratching of the quill soothing, and he drifted off to sleep.
*
Sirius opened his eyes to the clicking sound of a telescope being collapsed, and was briefly disoriented by the complete darkness surrounding him. He blinked rapidly and looked down at the plaid blanket covering him.
“You looked cold,” Remus explained in a kind voice, as he packed his homework and things into his bag.
“Oh, thanks, Rem,” Sirius replied, sitting up and stretching his arms over his head, “Got your chart finished?”
“Yup,” Remus replied, “Sirius is particularly bright tonight,” he nodded at the glowing Dog Star above them.
The star’s namesake chuckled, and looked up at the sky, clearer now that his eyes had adjusted, and gloriously speckled with millions of stars and planets.
“Do you want to head back to the dorm now?” Remus asked, “Or...do you feel like staying up here for a bit?”
Sirius was surprised at the masked vulnerability in his voice, like he was nervous Sirius wouldn’t want to stay here with him. Which was ridiculous because he would love nothing more than to lay under the stars with Remus.
“I’m happy to stay here,” he said, his lips pulling into a warm smile.
Remus smiled back and rolled his coat into a pillow, placing it under his head as he lay down beside Sirius.
Sirius’ eyes lingered on his friend for a moment, trailing over his face and long, lean body, before he flung the blanket out so it covered both of them and lay down again. He tried to keep a few inches between their bodies, but couldn’t help the length of their arms pressing together.
“Would you ever go up there?” Remus queried after a quiet minute, “In space?”
“...Are you daft?” Sirius asked incredulously. Brooms were one thing, floating up to the heavens was another.
“The muggles do it,” Remus said, chortling, “Don’t you remember learning about rocket ships?”
“Aren’t those the ones that go under water?”
“No, you twat, those are called submarines.”
“Oh. Yeah, that makes more sense.”
Remus shook his head and they both laughed.
“Do you want to go into space?” Sirius asked.
“I don’t know…” Remus said, turning his gaze back to the stars, “No, probably not. It seems cold, and dark. And very lonely.”
Sirius watched Remus as he said that. They were so close to each other he could see the night sky reflected in the other boy’s hazel eyes. He felt sad all of a sudden and looked away.
“I don’t need to go up into the sky for that.”
Remus frowned at the somber and surprisingly blunt statement.
“Are you lonely, Padfoot?” He asked softly.
Sirius was about to brush off the question with a joke about how there were plenty of people at this school who could take care of his loneliness, but when he looked into Remus’ eyes and saw the concern and tenderness there, he found himself speaking truthfully.
“Sometimes,” he answered in a low voice, “I mean, I’m not alone. But sometimes... I don’t know, it’s stupid.”
“I’m sure it’s not.”
He inhaled deeply. “Sometimes…I feel like I’m on the outside looking in, you know? Like everyone is far away, up there,” he gestured to the sky, “and I’m down here, looking at them through a telescope. And I’m so- so different from them. I’ll never escape my fucked up childhood, I’ll never be normal.” He hesitated when Remus said nothing. “Do you ever feel that way?”
“All the time,” Remus said with a kind smile, which Sirius returned. “But I usually feel like I’m floating above everyone,” he continued, “looking down at them from afar… Watching them live normal lives that aren’t controlled by the moon, and I’m worried I’m going to drift further and further away. Like a loose balloon.”
Sirius couldn’t resist saying, “I knew you always thought you were above us.”
Remus poked him in the side.
“That’s not what I meant!”
“I know, I know,” he chuckled.
They looked at each other for a while, both pondering the other’s words.
“How do you think people stop feeling like that?” Remus asked, his words just above a whisper.
“I don’t know,” Sirius replied honestly, “but if I find a way to tether you to the ground, I’ll let you know.”
Remus breathed a soft laugh.
“Okay.”
He looked down and noticed Sirius’ hands resting on his chest. He had no idea what came over him, but he found himself reaching out and taking the closer hand in his.
He held it above them, turning it over slowly, feeling the smooth skin and soft hairs on the back. He traced a couple of healed-over scars that you couldn’t really see anymore.
Sirius watched Remus intently. He was surprised at first at the intimate contact, but found himself enjoying the feel of Remus’ fingers.
His warm, strong fingers.
Sirius’ pulse quickened.
Remus observed the palm he was holding, the pad of his index finger moving over rough calluses and dipping into valleys.
“Do you remember anything we learned about palm reading?” Sirius asked in a thick voice, then swallowed loudly to clear it.
“Yes,” replied Remus with a wry smile, “but it’s too dark for me to make out the lines and I don’t want to misinterpret an untimely death or seventeen children or something.”
“Seventeen children?” he scoffed, “Not likely.”
“No children for you? What, you have some growing up yourself to do first?”
“Something like that,” Sirius said, gently elbowing Remus in the ribs. “Do you want kids one day?”
Remus tensed and Sirius realized what he’d just asked.
“Fuck- I’m sorry, Rem. I know how you feel about that. I forgot- I mean, I wasn’t thinking,” he stumbled over his words, “I just meant if you ever wanted to adopt or something, but that’s- that’s not much better. Fuck.”
He wanted to kick himself. He knew Remus had a paralyzing fear of passing on his lycanthropy, and that adoption for werewolves was out of the question due to asinine Ministry regulations.
“It’s alright,” Remus said quietly, “I haven’t thought about it much.”
Which they both knew was a lie.
“Sorry, Moony,” Sirius repeated, gently squeezing the fingers still holding his hand.
Remus’ face smoothed out and he went back to his task, taking the time to feel every bone and divot of Sirius’ knuckles.
Sirius revelled in the touch. Little zaps of pleasure rushed up his arm when Remus’s fingers travelled down and brushed over the sensitive skin on his inner wrist.
After a moment, Sirius felt comfortable to continue talking, also wanting to distract his friend from the goosebumps quickly raising on his arm.
“You know, if James ever convinces Evans to have a kid, you could always nick it.”
Remus snorted.
“You could! It would almost be a public service. Can you imagine Prongs as somebody’s dad?”
They both chuckled at the image, but only half-heartedly, deep down knowing James would make a great father one day.
“Don’t worry, I would help you raise it,” Sirius added.
“Would you, now?” Remus asked with raised eyebrows.
“Yeah. I’ll be the cool, hilarious godfather and you can handle all the rubbish baby stuff.”
Remus abruptly flipped Sirius’ hand over and squinted his eyes, pretending to re-examine his palm.
“Hmm, actually I can see better now,” he said mockingly, “it says in huge flashing letters to keep Sirius Black away from all children ever- and probably puppies and kittens just to be safe.”
“Git,” Sirius laughed, reaching over with his other hand and poking Remus in the side. Remus jerked away to keep from being tickled, but Sirius was too quick, fingers digging into Remus’ ribs, making him squirm and giggle.
They stilled after a minute, a little breathless, and saw that they were still holding hands.
Remus hadn’t realized how close they were laying, but he was now acutely aware of where their thighs touched. He glanced up at Sirius and blinked, taken aback by how dark his grey eyes were, something stirring behind them. He quickly looked back down at their entwined fingers to escape the intensity.
Sirius knew he was in one of those electric moments with Remus, and it was up to him to see where it could go from here.
He twisted his wrist so he was the one holding Remus’ hand and brought it closer to his face, tracing the channels along his palm. He meant to tease Remus, make a prediction about meeting someone tall, dark, and handsome, but he was having a hard time concentrating while holding his friend’s hand so intimately.
“I predict a bright future for you, Mr. Moony,” he managed to say, his voice mostly stable.
“Oh? And what do you predict will make my future bright, Mr. Padfoot?”
“Loads of chocolate, to start-”
Remus laughed heartily, and the sound warmed Sirius’ skin as his breath blew the hair away from Sirius’ forehead.
“And tea, too much tea, some would say,” he snickered as Remus frowned at him, “Lots of laughter, of course... Happiness… Love,” his voice softened, “And me.”
“Y-You?”
“Of course. My presence makes everyone’s lives brighter.”
“Oh, right.”
“Were you not expecting my presence in your future?”
“No, no, I was.”
“Good. Plan on it, Moony,” Sirius replied with a nod.
“I’ll start preparing myself for the longevity of our friendship now,” Remus said in a serious tone, “Might take me a while to come to terms with it.”
“Oi! I don’t have to be around forever if you’re not going to appreciate me!”
“No? You’re just going to up and leave me one day?”
“Nah, you’d miss me too much. I could never do that to you.”
“Yes, how would I ever survive without a pompous, needy megalomaniac in my life?” Remus said sarcastically.
“Shut it, wolf boy. You love me.”
“Mangy mutt.”
“Hairy beast.”
They both cracked up, and Sirius was sure the dopey grin on his face looked idiotic, but he couldn’t help it. He felt like an idiot around Remus all the time lately. He didn’t know where this feeling had come from or when it started, but he knew he never wanted it to stop.
“You know I’d never leave you, right, Moony?” Sirius asked suddenly, holding on to Remus’ hand a little tighter.
“What?”
“I’ll always be there for you,” he said softly, smiling at Remus’ confused face, “Says so on your palm.”
Remus cocked an eyebrow.
“Does it?”
“Yep. Says you’re stuck with your devilishly handsome friend with the flawless body and flowing locks of raven hair.”
“So, James.”
“His hair isn’t flowing!” Sirius cried indignantly, “More like a raven’s nest, the unkempt wanker!”
“True. Must be talking about you, then.”
“As if you have any other devilishly handsome friends.”
“Pete’s alright.”
Sirius glared at him so fiercely, he had to concede.
“But you’re the handsomest, Sirius.”
“Thank you, Remus. Your palm also says you should compliment me more,” he added, pointing to an invisible spot on Remus’ hand.
“Seems to say a lot that only you can read, doesn’t it?”
“Mm,” Sirius agreed, “Also says you should bring me breakfast on Sundays.”
“Ah. Anything else?”
“Yes. Says we need to come up to the Astronomy tower alone more often.”
Remus bit his lip as he felt a blush creep up his neck. Sirius was grinning at him but there was something vulnerable about his grey eyes, and it made Remus feel equally eager and uneasy. They seemed to be in some world of their own where nothing and no one else existed for the moment, and time had stopped just so they could be here together right now.
Sirius hesitantly reached up to brush his thumb along Remus’ reddened cheek. He really did look quite cute.
Heart pounding, he took a chance and leaned in fractionally.
Remus’ eyes widened slightly in alarm and Sirius froze, worried he’d made a mistake.
But after a moment, Remus’ gaze slid down to his mouth, to the pair of lips that were now much closer to his. Sirius felt emboldened and leaned in once more to place those lips lightly on Remus’.
He drew back and Remus slowly exhaled a shaky breath.
Sirius was trying to read his face; he looked a little surprised, and a little confused, but, mostly, Sirius saw desire stirring in the werewolf’s eyes. A hot wave of his own desire hit him, like he had stepped outside from a cool room into the blaze of summer.
He closed the distance between them and pressed their lips together again. This time Remus responded, turning on his side towards Sirius so their entire bodies were touching, and breaking the hands they had still been holding to wrap an arm around Sirius’ back. Sirius smiled into Remus’ mouth, and brought one hand up to cradle his face as he tilted his own head to deepen the kiss.
Remus made a pleasant, rumbling noise deep in his chest as their tongues met, and Sirius’ mind went blank with the sounds, touches, and tastes of Remus.
Their skin felt hot and tingly wherever it connected, and Remus wanted more. As if hearing his thoughts, Sirius rolled on top of him.
Remus gasped as their hips collided and he broke the kiss, turning his head slightly, embarrassed that Sirius could now feel his growing reaction to the contact and wet kiss.
Sirius braced his weight off of Remus, concerned that he’d hurt his friend somehow. Seeing the scarlet blush on Remus’ cheeks, he smiled and bent down to place feather-light kisses on the warmed skin on either side of his nose.
“Who knew palm reading was such a turn on, eh, Moony?” Sirius teased, a little out of breath.
Remus laughed but it caught in his throat as Sirius pressed his lips to the sensitive spot on his neck beneath his ear. He bit his lip and gripped the tops of Sirius’ arms as Sirius ran his lips up his neck and along his jaw, his fingers following the same path.
Sirius leaned back to look into Remus’ eyes once more, and moved his thumb over Remus’ bottom lip to release it from his teeth.
“Don’t,” he whispered in a husky voice, “I’m quite fond of that lip now.”
Remus automatically bit his lip again to keep from moaning, but let go immediately at the scowl he got from the boy above him.
Sirius grinned and planted a quick kiss on the abused flesh, then sighed, figuring he shouldn’t push his luck with taking things any further.
He sat up, pulling Remus with him. He was about to stand when the light from the castle caught Remus’ face and he swallowed a groan. His lips were red and swollen, wet from Sirius’ saliva, his hair a little tousled. It was quite possibly the sexiest thing he’d ever seen.
“What?” Remus asked when he saw him staring, his ears turning pink.
“Do you know how bloody sexy you are?”
Remus’ eyebrows shot up in shock, but the way Sirius was looking at him sent hot blood rushing from his head to…other places, and he felt a little dizzy.
“Er, no?”
Sirius exhaled frustratingly and he yanked Remus to his feet. He leaned against the wall to steady himself as Sirius picked up Remus’ bag, throwing the strap over his shoulder, and grabbed the blanket.
Remus tried to wrap his head around the fact that he’d just snogged his best mate. His best mate who he lived with. His best mate who he’d been pining after for a year and a half.
“Was this okay?” he suddenly asked.
Sirius straightened up and met Remus’ eyes.
“Was what okay?”
“This...” Remus gestured embarrassingly between the two of them.
“You have to ask, Moony?” Sirius cocked his head to the side.
Remus didn’t answer and Sirius resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he came up close to Remus. “You know I kissed you right?”
“Yeah, but I kissed you back.”
“Well, I held your hand.”
“I held your hand first!”
“But I lay down next to you, Moony.”
“I lay down first, Padfoot!”
“I came up here-“
Remus grabbed Sirius’ face with both hands and kissed him hard, thrusting his tongue into his mouth.
He pulled back after a few glorious seconds, to look into the flustered face of his friend. Sirius blinked a few times and tried to speak, but his mind seemed to have gone curiously blank again.
“Hmm,” Remus smiled wickedly at him, “Have I finally found a way to shut Sirius Black up? I’ll have to remember that.”
He pressed his lips to him one more time, then interlocked their fingers and walked towards the staircase leading back inside the castle, trailing a thoroughly dazed Sirius behind him.
Pairing: Aomine Daiki x Reader
Summary: Aomine’s girlfriend leaves him out in the rain and has to be punished for it.
It was a peaceful, rainy evening. The kind perfect for binge watching and snuggling under the covers.
Classes were over for you today. You had already done your post course work of organizing your notes and finishing any homework assigned. Now you were just laying on the couch, enjoying the quiet, until your boyfriend got home to start dinner. Aomine had practice tonight. So, he would be at the university until later that day.
You flip through the channels, vaguely looking for something to watch, but something was bothering you. This nagging feeling that you had forgotten something kept picking at the back of your brain. You couldn’t figure out what it was though. You’d gotten groceries after school. Thrown in a load of laundry when you got home. You had enough milk to get you through the week. But still, this nagging feeling wouldn’t leave you alone.
‘Oh well, I guess it wasn’t that important.’ You think to yourself.
Your channel surfing ceases when you hear someone banging at your door. Loud enough to make you almost jump off the couch. “Ok! Ok! I’m coming!” You shout angrily through the door at whoever was trying to bang it in. You were fully ready to give them a piece of your mind when you opened the door, only to find an angry looking, soaking wet Aomine on the other side. “Daiki?!”
“Where the hell were you?!” He growled back at you. Suddenly you remembered what it was you had forgotten, and your hand flew up to cover your face.
“Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” You were supposed to pick him up after practice. You both shared a car, since the expense on a dual student income was all you could afford eto split and public transit was enough to get you basically anywhere, but you had taken it to run errands that afternoon after school. He must have had to run from the gym on campus, to the bus station, then from the bus station to here to get home. All through the down pour that was going on outside.
“Why didn’t you call me??” You scold. Running to get him a towel while he waited in the entry way as to not track water all through the apartment.
“Because my phone fell in a puddle!” Aomine snapped at you. Taking the towel and beginning to dry his hair. “I thought about going inside to use a regular phone, but then I was worried you’d show up and think I left, so I waited there like an idiot!”
“I’m really sorry Daiki.” You apologize. Knowing you didn’t have a leg to stand on. “I really didn’t mean to forget. Honest! I wouldn’t just leave you out in the rain on purpose. I’ll make it up to you. I promise! I’ll do anything.”
The basketball ace stopped mussing his hair, and looked up at you through the towel. “Anything?”
Uh oh……
The rain continued to beat down outside. The soft tapping on the glass in your bedroom drowned out only by your moans and whimpers as the only other sound.
He’d been torturing you for what felt like hours. First it was kissing you until your lips were sore. Leaving you squirming and begging for more. But that was just another torture tactic as Aomine had moved to your breasts to fondle them thoroughly. Those hands that were made for basketball caressing them with the skill he used on the bright orange sphere. His lips and tongue joining in to suck on your nipples. Nipping now and then to hear you yip. Now, it was fingering you. He’d sat back on his ankles. The only part of him touching you now was his hand working at your apex with precision dexterity. Watching you, and every reaction, with a satisfied smirk as two fingers pumped inside you while his thumb slowly caressed your clit.
“You know, it’s not really fair that you’re enjoying this. I’m the victim here. You’re supposed to be being punished.”
“Daiki…..!” It was all you could get out before your back arched. Fingers twisting in the sheets.
You want to tell him that this was punishment. You still hadn’t cum yet, and you know Aomine is keeping you from climax on purpose. He knew exactly what he was doing with that shitty, sexy smirk. God it would be so easy to hate him if you didn’t love him so much. “Daiki….please….”
“Please what?”
You let out a groan at his continued superiority. He was going to let this go on forever if he could. Shifting a little, you move your legs to get your foot in between his knees. Lifting it up carefully to caress his erection and causing him to shiver. “Please fuck me.” You reply, in a sex drenched voice after licking your lips that were dry from panting, and Aomine snapped. Game over.
“You asked for it baby girl.” He said, warned, before he grabbed your leg and lifted it up against his shoulder. The position a sudden shift that was startling, but not as startling as him suddenly thrusting into. The wind was knocked out of your lungs for a moment, and refill only to have you scream in ecstasy the moment they do at having him so deep inside you so suddenly.
Aomine gave you a moment, and perhaps himself, a moment to collect yourself and adjust before he continued thrusting into you. It’s hard, and deep. You’re still apparently being ‘punished’ because it’s a lot harder and faster than he normally does it when you’re fucking. Not that you were complaining in the least.
“Cum for me baby girl.” He told you. Growled, really. That’s all you needed as you tumble over the edge around his cock. You’ve cum embarrassingly fast, but it was all Aomine’s fault for working you up so much from the start. He doesn’t stop though. You’ve barely finished cumming before he was thrusting into you again. Putting your leg down, but not stopping his hard thrusts you were definitely going to feel in the morning.
“[Y/N]…” He breathed out against your lips before he kissed you again. Now that he was close to them again, he doesn’t seem to want to let them go.
You moan and whimper against his mouth in the kiss. Letting out and equally breathless, “Daiki…” when he let you go. “I’m gonna cum again.”
“Do it. Cum for me baby girl.” He repeated, and again it’s like a secret, magic phrase because you were cumming again. Your juices leaking out on the sheets for sure now as your walls seize around Aomine’s cock.
“D-Daiki…!” You whine as his thrusts don’t stop. “I-It’s too much. I-I can’t take it!” You’re finding it hard to speak as your body was becoming one live-wire bundle of nerves. Your entire focus of being on pleasure, and Aomine, and his wonderful warm body on top of you.
“One more.” He replied. Voice low and strained. You know that voice, and apparently, he was at his limit to. But you also know that voice means that he was determined to make it happen. Whatever ‘it’ was. All you could do was whimper and hold on to his shoulders for dear life as he tried to fuck the life out of you.
He doesn’t last much longer. Hips sputtering soon enough as he buried his cock deep inside you. True to his word, he got you off one more time; reaching down to rub your clit with his talented fingers. It wasn’t that hard. With how sensitive you were at the moment, a strong gust of wind could have made you cum right now. Stated, and worn out, Aomine rolled off from on top of you where he had collapsed for a moment. Trying to catch your breathe before you both curl into each other.
“Bet you won’t forget me now.” He said, after a beat. Holding you, but still seeming to have a pout about being literally left out in the cold earlier today.
“I said I was sorry.” You told him. “I didn’t mean to forget to pick you. And I could never forget you.” You lean up to kiss him with what strength you can muster. A soft peck in comparison to your passionate kisses earlier. “I love you. I really am sorry.”
“I love you too. Apology accepted I guess.” He replied. Giving your shoulders a squeeze. “I’m gonna go take a bath though. Need to wash up, and also need to make sure I don’t catch a cold from being stuck out in the rain.”
“I’m never going to hear the end of this no matter what I do, am I?”
“Not for a couple days at least.”
Words: 4.3K
Every part of Rosie was recovering, except her broken heart. She had tried to call Henry a few times. It was weird how someone could be such a big part of her life one moment and the next he was a ghost.
Rosie wasn’t the only thing broken in the Holland household. You and Tom were going through a rough patch. Neither of you had spoken to each other for longer than 5 minutes, Tom was still sleeping in the guest room and he refused to come clean. Still letting you believe he cheated on you.
Mornings before school hadn’t been the same. Tom would try to hide the fact he was sleeping in the guest room before the kids came down but it was no use.
“Dad, did you sleep in there?” Parker asked as he saw the unmade bed in the guest room.
“Yeah, no need to worry, your mom and I are fine,” Tom reassured his son. Tom was lying to his son and himself. He didn’t know how to fix this. He had really fucked up.
You had started to become a ghost. Nobody would see you for most of the day. It baffled you that after countless years of marriage, Tom could be so careless. You were aware of his moral code and felt that you never needed about infidelity.
One night Parker and Rosie had devised a plan, almost like a parent trap. They set up a nice candlelight dinner in garden. It was a picture perfect date night only if Tom and you weren’t fighting. Rosie and Parker tasked themselves for both sneaking you out there, knowing if you knew Tom would be there you’d probably throw something at him.
“Surprise!” shouted both Parker and Rosie as you removed you hands from your eyes.
“Oh, how beautiful. Yay, I get to have dinner with my kids,” you exclaimed.
“Actually, we aren’t joining you,” Rosie said as Tom came out of the shadows.
“I am your date tonight and always,” Tom said.
“Kids, this is sweet and all but, I’m just going to go lay down. I suddenly have a headache,” you explained, not ready to face Tom.
“Y/N will you please talk to me,” Tom begged.
“Why don’t you go talk to your fucking mistress, Tom.”
“Who? I never cheated on you,” Tom asserted, confused he thought you were mad about Henry and Rosie.
“Save it Tom. Parker overheard you on the phone meeting her at the Savoy.”
“What? Oh you mean, Jazz?”
“I’m surprised there’s only one.”
“Don’t fucking do that. She was my informant. She’s dead now.”
“What and that’s supposed to make feel better?”
“Y/N, just listen to me.”
“Is this your way of getting back at me? For Rosie and Henry? Not telling you? Cause I can’t believe you’d do such a thing.”
“Y/N, just sit down and have dinner with me. Please,” Tom exclaimed, you could hear the desperation in his voice.
“No. Good night everyone. Tom, hope the couch is comfortable,” you said, walking away.
“Sorry dad, we tried. What happened between you two anyway?” Rosie said, looking at the ground lowly.
“It’s alright. I loved the gesture. So what are we having?” Tom said, as he pulled out the chair and sat down all ready for this wonderful meal.
“Oh, you’re still going to eat without mom?” Parker asked.
“Hell yeah, don’t want all this food to go to waste,” Tom remarked.
“Oh, ok. I was going to go and do homework,” Rosie said.
“You go, Roo. I’ll stay will dad,” Parker announced.
“Parker, I have to make sure you know I never cheated on mom,” Tom said, trying reassure his son.
“Dad, I know what I saw… But if you say you didn’t, I believe you. You are a man of your word. I was sorry to hear about Jazz too.”
“Thank you.”
Tom was stuck. How could he make it up to you, if you wouldn’t as much as look at him? With all the worries concerning Rosie, he had forgotten of a trip he planned for you and him awhile ago. It was the annual trip to Barcelona to facilitate the company’s exportations, you’d always tag along. It was your one romantic vacation with your husband, but this time Tom had tainted it with his betrayal and lies.
This trip was going to be the longest time you and him had been together in a week. Your main focus had been Rosie, then Parker and then yourself and lastly patching things up with Tom. You had both argued in the past but, Tom hasn’t been in the doghouse since you were pregnant with the twins. Even then, it wasn’t the doghouse, he was just giving you space because of how uncomfortable pregnancy was making you.
You didn’t like being apart from him. He was your husband, your better half. This separation was killing you as much it was killing him. Rosie had recuperated but, lately you had been having nightmares of losing your children. It killed you, every time you would see one of them fighting for lives in a hospital or dark alley. You always knew the dangers of the mob so you understood Parker will just learn to be more careful but Rosie’s car accident was merely an accident. Not a ploy orchestrated by a rival mob, it was an accident. How could you protect your kids all the time if there was no one to blame?
Even when Tom would come home battered and bruised, your world would stop turning. He was your world, he was everything. Everything you had was because of him, especially your kids. Anytime when someone threatened to take Tom away from you, you would just break. It is hard to imagine a world without him.
This time is different though, you are begging him to give you space. You understand the insaneness of mind, you want him to explain but you won’t give him the chance to talk to you. Maybe being on the trip together will force you to acknowledge him.
It was a typical morning, you and Tom were supposed to leave in a few hours for Barcelona.
“Kids, grandma and grandpa are going to stay with you while we are away,” you said.
“Your mom and I have some a business to attend to in Barcelona,” interjected Tom.
“Why? What’s in Barcelona?” Rosie questioned, she was aware of your annoyance with Tom, everyone was.
“That’s grown up stuff, sweetie. Maybe a second honeymoon.” Tom said as you rolled your eyes.
“Since when do we need babysitting?” Parker piped up.
“Since you guys have proven that you can’t be left alone, grandma and grandpa are here to babysit you to make sure you don’t throw any parties,” you explained as a look of regret etched itself onto Parker’s face.
“Aren’t you and dad fighting?” Rosie queried.
“At the moment we are just disagreeing on a few things. This is purely business, ok?” You exclaimed, your last statement directed at Tom.
“I love you both so much. Be good for grandma and grandpa,” you grinned, kissing both of their foreheads before you left. And with that your vacation to hell started. Why were you and Tom fighting, is it because no one wants to admit they're wrong? Only god knows. Deep down you hoped this trip would bring you two back together.
Parker drove Rosie to school that morning, she had been going for only two days since the accident. She had yet to run into Henry. Rosie didn’t know how she would act. How could she see the boy who broke her heart everyday?
Rosie met up with her two school friends Jenna and Brooke. They had been friends since 5th grade but, their relationship mostly stopped at school. Once in a while they would hangout outside of school or have a sleepover. Rosie’s real best friend was Henry. He was the one she would share good news with or funny memes. Nobody at school really knew about the accident, a few people noticed she wasn’t there but it wasn’t like when Charlotte died. Rosie wasn’t as popular as Charlotte and she didn’t need to be, high school hierarchies are overrated anyway.
“So where were you for like a week?” Brooke asked.
“Oh, umm… I was… skiing,” Rosie answered, debating if she tell her friends the truth. Knowing only rumors would circulate because of it.
“Oh. Parker was here. I thought it’d be a family trip.” Jenna remarked.
“What’s with your obsession with my brother?” Rosie questioned. She knew of Jenna’s school-girl crush on Parker, it started back in grade school.
“Nothing, he’s just.. insanely hot,” Jenna responded, drifty into a trance. Possibly imaging his dreamy brown eyes.
“Ew, Jen. That’s my brother” Rosie exclaimed, trying not to gag.
“Whatever. So how’s it going with you and Henry?” Jenna persisted.
“We broke up.”
“Oh, Rosie. I’m so sorry,” Brooke and Jenna said at the same time, trying to comfort Rosie.
“It’s ok. It’s not like I loved him or anything we were only dating for like two months” Rosie responded, trying not to cry. RING the bell sounded
“Oh, that’s the bell. I’ll see you guys after class,” Rosie said, waving goodbye. She quickly turned to walk to her algebra class but something or someone stopped her.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I should watch where I’m going,” she said as she picked up her fallen books. Still oblivious to the person standing before her.
“It’s quite alright, Roo,” Henry spoke.
“Henry… I-I gotta go” Rosie mumbled, surprised he was standing in front of her. Oh, what she’d do to get to hold that boy once more. But he’s the one who broke up with her. He left her. Why is she letting a stupid boy bring her to tears?
Because he’s not some stupid boy. He’s Henry. The boy who made sure to always bring her Hershey kisses when her period would come around. The lovable best friend who made her feel loved and wanted.
Rosie needed that almost as much as she needed air to breathe. She was ready to forgive him in that moment if he would take her back. Only if he wanted her back.
“Please, can I talk with you?” Henry asked.
“No, I have nothing to say to you and don’t want to hear what you have to say,” she muttered, walking away and not turning back.
Rosie quickly rounded the corner and slammed her back against the wall. Sliding down to where her knees were in her chest, trying to hide her tear stricken face. Parker was on his way to bathroom when he saw her, sitting on the ground in the deserted hallway.
“Rosie, what’s wrong?” Parker asked, seeing her tears.
“I just saw Henry,” Rosie said with her voice cracking.
“Hey, why don’t we go get some coffee. I’ll let you be basic this one time and order an iced caramel macchiato. Come on my treat.”
“What about school?” Rosie sniffled.
“I guarantee you they won’t miss us. Let’s go home. They’ll understand.”
“Ok, but I’m getting the largest size they have,” Rosie asserted.
“Alright, Roo,” Parker said, chuckling while he helped her up. Parker felt like a bad brother lately. The last nice words he said to her was when she was in her coma and most likely couldn’t hear him. He was taking a play from Tom, when Tom knows he screwed up he showers you with gifts. This was Parker’s version of that, taking Rosie to get some coffee and maybe a cupcake.
Later at home, Dom and Nikki were already there. Parker was kind of annoyed he had to be babysat but in your and Tom’s defense, he did throw a party that last time you were out of town.
“Grandma! Grandpa!” Called out Rosie as she came through the door. Rosie will always be a kid at heart with a fiery passion.
“Oh, there’s my flower and my peanut,” Nikki returned. Those were her pet names for Parker and Rosie. “Peanut” because even though Parker was older he was slightly smaller than Rosie when he was born. And “flower” because of her name.
“What are you guys doing home?” Asked Nikki.
“Oh, umm they let us out early,” Parker remarked quickly, not trying to raise any further questions.
“Did you ditch?” Dom questioned.
“Uh, yeah. Don’t tell mom and dad, please,” Rosie mumbled.
“Alright, only because now I get to spend more time with my kiddos,” Nikki exclaimed.
Nikki and Dom were definitely more prevalent in the twins lives when they were younger. When Tom had just taken over the mob, Nikki and Dom would spend every hour of the day with Rosie and Parker. Always taking them to the park, museums or plays. You think that is where Rosie got her love for theatre from. You also had an influence in that, you’re kind of a sucker for show tunes.
Their role in the twins lives fizzled out over the years. Nikki and Dom who are now both retired, traveled more than anything. But their place in Parker and Rosies’ heart remained the same.
They all decided to order pizza for dinner, something quick and easy. And none of them wanted to be formal so they ate on the couch and watched The Sound of Music. It was Rosie’s turn to pick, so of course it was a musical.
They were all about to turn in for the night when Nikki called for her husband. She didn’t say honey, darling or love or his full name, Dominic. She called out his nickname, Dom.
“Dom, did you lock the door?” Nikki called out.
“Yes, sweetheart. Now, kids make sure you brush your teeth. Good night everyone,” Dom said as he made his way to the guest room.
That was it, a three letter name Nikki had called Dominic. Parker’s mind flooded with thoughts from the night he overheard you and Tom talking in his office. “No, Dom. He arranged the hit,” those words replaying in his head. If it was his grandfather who gave up his location, why was he betraying Tom?
Parker was a bright kid but, not one for connecting the dots. The last couple weeks of his life had been devoted to get back at Tom. He knew working for Wilson would give Tom a heart attack right on the spot. But, it was never Tom who arranged the hit or had his men pull the trigger. It was his grandfather, Dom Holland.
He knew Dom’s full name, Dominic, but never made that connection. How stupid could he be? Never in a million years would he think someone who he looked up to, could inadvertently brought so much destruction to his life. Dom was someone Parker trusted. How could Dom be so devious and betray his own grandson?
Parker didn’t just lose Charlotte that night, he lost his innocence. That was the first time Parker actually thought he was going to die. He felt like he was dying, being beaten up to within an inch of his life. Parker was just realizing the gravity of what he had done in a desperate attempt to make Tom pay. Parker was doing the same thing to Tom, Dom did to him.
Parker was entrusted by his dad, given the skills to kill and yet he had been betraying him. Taking out all his men and Jazz. “Oh, Jazz” Parker thought, he even said sorry to Tom for her death. What could Parker do now? This whole time he believed he was killing for sake of mercy but in truth it was for sport.
Parker had to confront Dom, he needed to know the truth. So that’s exactly what he did, but waited till morning breakfast.
“So, how’s working for your dad going?” Dom inquired with his mouth stuffed with bacon and eggs.
“Fine. Things have been put on hold with Rosie’s accident and all,” Parker replied, his feelings were conflicted. He didn’t know who to believe.
“That’s it? I want details.”
“Have you had your first kill yet? How’d it feel?” Dom pestered on.
“Yeah. I’m only doing this to avenge my girlfriend, Charlotte. She was killed a few months ago,” Parker said, trying to get Dom to fall into his trap.
“Yeah, I heard about that. I bet it was sad. Well, you are here now, that’s all that matters. You’re truly a part of the family,” Dom said, raising his glass of orange juice to toast.
“I know you used to work for the mob, so could you maybe help me find her killer. Well I already found the guy and gave him a few licks, but I want the guy who orchestrated the hit,” Parker exclaimed.
“I don’t know, kid. I’d stop looking if I were you. Seems like this guy covers his tracks.”
“I know it was you. I know you were the one who gave up my location. I’m not going to hit you or anything but, I need to know why,” Parker said, his voice completely changing its tone.
“Think of it as an encouragement. You needed something to get your foot in the door of the mob and she was it.”
“God, this fucking family. It’s so twisted. News flash grandpa, I’m the fucking traitor. I’ve been working for Angus Wilson. I’m the one taking out all of Tom’s men,” Parker screamed.
“What? Why would you do that?” Dom questioned, growing more furious by the minute. How could Tom raise a traitor?
“Because I thought it was Tom who called for the hit on me and Charlotte. Then I find out it’s you,” Parker bellowed.
“Parker, calm down.”
“A little part of me died the night she died. Don’t you get that? I was a normal kid and now I’m a mobster.”
“You were never a normal kid. You were always going to be the next Holland to run the mob.”
“I NEVER WANTED TO BE! I never wanted to be part of the mob. Now once my dad finds out I killed his men and Jazz, I’m dead. And once Wilson finds out I’m quitting I’m dead,” Parker screamed.
“Tom, won’t hurt you. I promise. Can’t say the same about Wilson. But I can help you, Parker. When Tom gets back we will talk to him together ok?” Dom assured only to be returned with a nod from Parker.
Parker had his chance to kill the man who got his girlfriend killed and his grandpa in cold blood, but didn’t take it. Parker didn’t want anymore blood on his hands. Having Dom on his side was Parker’s only possible way out from Tom’s thumb. Dom could’ve killed Parker right then and there too. But both of them had fucked up. Both their actions had already cost too many lives. So they joined forces, hoping Tom wouldn’t react the same when he got back.
It was the weekend and Rosie was looking forward to just relaxing all day and doing nothing. Maybe a puzzle with Nikki or watching another movie. Seeing Henry at school really set her back in her getting over him process. The first few days she wallowed. Not at home but in a hospital bed. She cried and cried until she couldn’t cry anymore and you were there to comfort her.
Once she came home from the hospital she wallowed some more. Watching romantic comedies with you in your room as you both ate tubs of ice cream. You wouldn’t let yourself show it but you were heartbroken about Tom’s supposed infidelity.
Next, Rosie cleaned out anything that reminded her of Henry. The outfit she wore on their first date was trashed. Along with a teddy bear he had given her when she sprained her ankle in the 3rd grade. Also the silver H and R necklace that he had given her. She couldn’t bring herself to throw it away, so she gave it to Parker. She said “I don’t care what you do with it. I just don’t want it anymore.” Parker took the necklace, totally planning to give it back to her once things blew over.
Now Rosie was finally accepting her breakup. The process of getting over a relationship is similar to the 5 stages of grief. She barely bargained, if he didn’t want to be with her she wasn’t going to beg him to take her back. Rosie knew her worth. Denial didn’t really affect her either, she was mostly confused that he broke up with her straight out of her coma.
That left her with anger. God, she was so angry. What kind of jackass breaks up with someone once they’ve been in a coma? Seriously, like what the fuck? Also depression which never really goes away. She will always be sad, that he pulled the plug on their relationship. Lastly, acceptance. Rosie had accepted it but, will never understood what happened.
All the Henry sightings, started to put her back at square one. I didn’t help when Henry came to the house.
“Henry, what the fuck are you doing here?” Parker asked as opened the door to his somewhat estranged best friend.
“I heard your parents are out of town. Can I talk to Rosie?” Henry pleaded.
“She doesn’t want to talk to you. But, she did give me this, to give to you.” Parker said holding out the one thing that symbolized their love for one another, her necklace. Henry, just took the necklace and walked away. He felt so awful inside.
“Who was that?” Rosie asked, standing behind him.
“No one,” Parker responded.
“It was Henry, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, I told him you didn’t want to see him”
“Thanks,” Rosie mumbled, in truth she wanted to see him and talk to him but it was too hard.
“Of course, Roo,” Parker replied.
“Oh, not you too. I hate that nickname,” Rosie remarked.
“Why it reminds me of a baby kangaroo,” Parker joked.
“Exactly. That’s the reason why. It’s for a baby and sounds like kangaroo,” Rosie explained.
“Whatever. Mom and I like it so, too bad.” Parker said.
“Hey, I need to talk to you.” Rosie interjected.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Parker responded.
“Why are you sneaking out? I can hear you from outside my window.”
“Oh, I just… I go to the library,” he said, hesitantly.
“At 10:30 at night?” Rosie was skeptical of his remark.
“Yeah, I have a study group that only… meets at night.”
“Parker, I have seriously never seen you study. I can’t believe you won’t tell me where you are going every week. Do you remember what keeping secrets has done to this family? Mom and dad might get divorced!” Rosie exclaimed.
“Roo, you know that won’t happen. If I tell you, you have to promise to keep it a secret,” Parker only trying to comfort Rosie. He was scared to that you and Tom won’t work it out, you’d never fought in the past.
“Ok… Is it some girl?”
“No, I did something really stupid Roo. It was all part of my plan to get back at dad.”
“Why? What did dad do?” Rosie questioned, very concerned.
“Nothing. I’m the idiot here. I got myself hired by dad’s rival mob and I’ve been the traitor dad is looking for,” Parker said, scared of what this mistake will cost.
“Oh my god, Parker. What the fuck are you going to do?”
“I don’t know but Dom said he’d help me… I mean grandpa.”
“Okay… You know if you need anything, I’m always here.”
“Yeah, I know. Thanks for not telling anyone,” Parker thanked.
“Of course, you’re my twin brother. Almost an exact copy of my DNA, if I can’t have your back then what’s the point,” Rosie said, awarding a chuckle from Parker.
Parker’s days of living a double life were fleeting. You and Tom were set to return today. After a hopefully decent holiday. Parker was just glad Dom would be there to hold Tom back. Parker knows how enraged Tom can get.
T-minus 3 hours til he had to face Tom. Only 2 more class periods standing between him and involuntary rage. Parker and Rosie were in their English class when the loud speaker sounded.
“Will Parker and Rosie Holland please report to the principal’s office. I repeat, Parker and Rosie Holland please report to the principal’s office.”
They swiftly made their way out of their classroom. Dumbfounded to why they were called in the first place. Neither Parker nor Rosie had done anything bad in quite sometime.
“Uncle Harry? Uncle Sam? What are you two doing here?” Rosie questioned. Opening the door to the principal talking to their uncles, Harry and Sam Holland.
“Wait… you haven’t seen the news?” asked Harry.
“No. Why? What’s going on?” Parker speculated. The office admin had turned their small TV to channel 4 for the latest update.
“BREAKING NEWS. A Holland Exportation and Luxuries helicopter has just gone missing. The private helicopter departed from Barcelona this morning. I’m getting word that both Tom Holland, CEO of Holland Exportation and Luxuries, and his wife, Y/N Holland, were on the helicopter. There is no sign of the helicopter, we will continue to update you as this story unfolds,” announced the news anchor.
The room turned dead silent. Tears managed to escape from Rosie’s eyes and Parker pulled her into his arms. Trying to comfort her the best he can, even when he was a mess. The two people that were constant in their lives, their parents, were missing. Nothing was more important, except finding you and Tom.
