SwapOut/Webcomic/Twitch PSA!
Tumblr media
Hi everyone 👋🏻 Zk here >< or Cats, for older followers
So I've been getting back into doing SwapOut again, but I would like to appeal to everyone who reads and loves the comic. Much love to all of you who's still sticking around 🙏🏻💙 But something has also always been bothering me throughout this journey.
As many of us know, we artists do these comics for free (especially fan comics), starting them out of love and taking a LOT of time and energy out of our lives to continue making them.
And it's amazing how many of you come from translations or comic dubs on Youtube, which are also very well-done and take a lot of effort to make, much love to them too. There is a difference, however.
Monetization.
And I'm not asking for pity! I'm appealing for understanding.
Because some comic dubbers on Youtube are able to earn ad revenue from the videos they upload. From the beginning, we artists have given them the permission to dub our works. But we don't receive anything from it, nor do we usually charge them for using our art (against our better judgement).
We let them use our comic pages in their monetized videos for free. And occasionally these videos receive thousands and millions of views, which I imagine gives a decent amount of ad revenue, while the artists themselves don't usually earn anything from their own artwork, nor do we ever want to put it behind a paywall of any kind. (we like reading free comics too so don't worry x|)
... But doing full-colored comic pages for free eventually gets hard to sustain without any income from it, even more so when we need to give our time and energy to other jobs to earn money for a living instead. We legitimately keep going on our comics purely out of love. Truly, we would LOVE to do our own art for a living. There's things like Patreon but it's only feasible if we're also able to produce bonus content or show BTS, and only people willing to spend money for them can help us, and not readers who aren't able to.
And we understand that not everyone can afford to support us monetarily. And that's okay!
But if you love these comics and want to really help us to keep going, there ARE ways you can easily support us for free!
For example, affiliates on Twitch (like myself) are able to earn ad revenue very early on (they must have at least 50 followers, quite a requirement, but still easier to obtain than Youtube's 1000 subscribers).
(my Youtube, btw. not much rn but drop a subscribe?)
But simply put, if the vast majority of readers from the yt numbers visit and stay for ads on the artists' Twitch streams (remember to have adblocker disabled for the site, if any), they'll be making an actual, physical contribution to the artist themselves, at no cost whatsoever. We earn up to 55% from any ads that run on our stream, so the more viewers, the better!
Tumblr media
(this is my twitch on average 8 viewers, with a 3 hour stream. again, the more the better!)
(ofc you can also buy subs to watch ad-free and supports me directly, but i'm typing all this to share the free ways people can support their fave creators ✨)
And even if that doesn't work out, I'd be happy enough to see most of you there 🙏🏻💙 I've been treating my streams as work, so I'm striving not to break the streak.
So drop a follow on my Twitch, and catch the streams when you can! They're great if you need company or background noise, and also great for co-working~
Currently streaming WEEKLY, Mondays, Wednesdays (SwapOut) and Saturdays, 10.30AM EST

Anyway thanks for listening to my Ted talk, please share this around for others as well >< 🙏🏻 Artists, make this a reblog chain or something! Promo your stuff!
And apologies for the essay, I wasn't expecting to type this much sdghsgh this itself is not an ad for Twitch or whatev, I'm just a little frustrated with needing to juggle all this.
Tumblr media
I was also considering hosting SwapOut somewhere that could get ad revenue, but I wasn't sure where until I realized I can probably earn that from my Tapas now (i think?? sdfhgh up to 70% ad revenue there but i haven't seen any yet) So maybe I'll post there a day earlier than here or something? We'll see. Go subscribe there! Check it out! Reread it! Help ME help YOU!
... Much appreciated ><

Kaiju Week in Review (February 11-17, 2024)
vimeo
Warner Bros. unfurled the second trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which seems to be going over much better than the first. There are multiple glimpses of the ice Titan Shimo throughout, and an even briefer look at Mothra reflected in Jia's eye. (My favorite shot, of course, is Kong decking Skar King as he's holding out Suko like a wriggling shield.) The rough shots from trailer #1 still look rough, but at least the new footage is more impressive.
The new issue of Empire (how fitting) has a short article on GxK—the big revelation there is that Godzilla Evolved is pink simply because that's director Adam Wingard's favorite color. Collaborations are also popping up. Circle K is offering a movie-branded sandwich, chocolate bar, and Froster drinks/cups. Godzilla and a seriously wizened Kong are also entering the mobile game Lords Mobile.

I don't know much about Oscar politicking, but Takashi Yamazaki's strategy of bringing a model Godzilla with him everywhere he goes seems like a winner. Both appear in the "class photo" taken of all the nominees at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon. At the same event, Yamazaki and Godzilla met with Steven Spielberg, who told Yamazaki he had seen Godzilla Minus One three times. Posting their photo together on Twitter, Yamazaki said he had "met God."
Toho's English Godzilla YouTube channel also uploaded a six-minute video on Minus One's VFX, with a focus on the various ways the production was able to shave off costs. Officially translated behind-the-scenes featurettes for Toho Godzilla films are a rarity, a sign of how badly they want that little gold statue. It's worth watching just for Yamazaki scooting his chair around the office.

Shout! Factory's onslaught of old Toei tokusatsu films on its streaming service turned out to be a prelude to offering them all on disc. The Classic Tokusatsu Collection Blu-ray set includes Planet Prince (1959; called Prince of Space), Invasion of the Neptune Men (1961), Watari the Ninja Boy (1966), The Golden Bat (1966; called Golden Ninja), Magic Serpent (1966; called Dragon Showdown) , Ninja Scope (1969), and Terror Beneath the Sea (1966). None have ever been released on English-friendly Blu-ray before; some haven't even made it to DVD. The set is $70 and limited to 2,500 copies.
Major caveats seem to accompany every English-language release of vintage tokusatsu these days, and unfortunately this set's no exception. Despite the existence of English dubs for at least some of these films (two of them riffed on Mystery Science Theater 3000), only Terror Beneath the Sea is dubbed; the rest are Japanese-only. And the dubbed Prince of Space well-known to MiSTies was actually an amalgamation of Toei's two Planet Prince films, only the first of which is present here. (Even the first film seems like it's going to be in upscaled standard-def, going off the streaming version.) No special features in the production description either, although one person who got the set early reports that at least one trailer is included (for Invasion of the Neptune Men).

IDW has announced still another Godzilla miniseries, Godzilla: Skate or Die. First-issue description:
It's Australian skater punks versus Varan and the King of the Monsters in this thrilling debut issue by writer/artist Louie Joyce (A Fistful of Pain)! Four years ago, four best friends and die-hard skaters found the perfect location for a DIY skatepark. After months of hard work, they created the world’s sickest spot that they could enjoy for the rest of their lives… That is, until the ferocious Varan appeared in the middle of central Australia and started making a beeline for their beloved park. Why is Varan on a rampage? Why did Godzilla just appear off the coast? What does their beloved skate spot have to do with this? And most importantly…what are these punks willing to do to save it?
Sounds like there's a lot of author appeal here, as Joyce is Australian and calls the tale "inspired by all the amazing DIY spots I've had the privilege of skating[.]" And a meaty role for Varan is a pleasant surprise.

Perhaps inspired by the success of Troll on Netflix, we've got another Scandinavia giant monster movie on the way. Kraken will be directed by Pal Oie (Dark Woods) from a script by Vilde Eide. No cast yet, but here are the plot details divulged by The Hollywood Reporter:
[T]he thriller will follow Johanne, a marine biologist who encounters several strange occurrences while researching a fjord, including the brutal deaths of two local teenagers. “At the bottom of Norway’s deepest fjord rests a mythical monster as large as a mountain, with a myriad of arms ready to crush and devour anything they can grab,” the film’s synopsis reads.
Krakens are certainly having a moment in giant monster stories right now, between Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken and the three that somehow wound up connected to the Monsterverse. (To wit: Na Kika was originally called Kraken, the unnamed antagonist of Skull Island bore the same name internally, and the guardian of Atlantis in the Justice League crossover comic is a Kraken as well.) This seems like a more back-to-basics approach.

digital media i watched this year that i really really enjoyed: a (non-exhaustive, non-ranked) list
hi everyone! ray keys here. i'm writing this on Dec 21st because I know I'll forget to post this on time if I don't schedule it beforehand.
i don't watch things on streaming services because i don't have any of the apps downloaded on my phone and most shows just aren't my thing anyways (ATLA has been the only exception) so all of the links here go to YouTube or other (free) sites
here we go!
Misc. Series and Standalone Videos
17776
17776 is a multimedia webnovel (?) about American football in the year of, you guessed it, 17776, written in 2017 by Jon Bois. It's told through the communications of three space probes made by humans and it's genuinely comforting as someone who's generally terrified by the concepts of eternity and immortality. Trigger warning for unreality at the start.

20020 (the sequel, written in 2020 by the same author)
Code MENT
Code MENT is a YouTube series made by PurpleEyesWTF, of which the first episode was released in 2010. It's a fan-made abridgMENT of the anime Code Geass, voiced entirely by one guy (or at least i think so), and some parts of it have become legendary (see: Soup Store). Trigger warning for murder, infrequent use of the R slur, and depictions of blood and gore.

Star Wars The Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West
Star Wars the Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West, uploaded to YouTube by GratefulDeadpool in 2017, is a video where somebody put the entire script of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in Google Translate, translated it to Chinese then back to English, and dubbed over it. Yes, it's the entire movie. No, it somehow hasn't been taken down yet.

Mianite (S1)
At least some of you should be familiar with Mianite, seeing as how it has taken over my entire blog over the past month or so. The World of Mianite is a vanilla Minecraft SMP launched in 2014. It was streamed live, but the recordings of those livestreams were later uploaded to YouTube. The main members of the serverlist are CaptainSparklez, II_JERIICHO_II, SynHD, and OmgItsFirefoxx. Mianite has had three seasons so far, but I've only watched the first from one perspective so that's what you guys are going to get.

Alan Becker (and his Team)'s Work
Hi! This channel gets a special section all to itself because I just finished the Animation vs Minecraft series and I'm pretty sure my life has been irreversibly changed forever.
Animator Vs Animation
Animator Vs Animation (shortened: AVA or AvA) is an animated YouTube series by Alan Becker. The first episode was originally posted in 2006 and was later reuploaded to the platform in 2018. I recently binged the entire thing and was NOT expecting it to be as fucking incredible as it was. This is the de facto best place to start if you want to jump into Alan's other works featuring these characters, which I highly recommend because all of them are fantastic!

The stick men play the block game. Do not read the comments of any of the episodes until you have finished the entire series. Do not go in with any prior knowledge if you're able to. Set yourself up with a bowl of popcorn and a big ol' glass of ice water, sit back, look really closely for continuity because it is there and it is GLORIOUS, and enjoy.

Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return! (2008)
Tumblr media
2008 marked the fortieth anniversary of the manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump.  To commemorate the occasion, Toei produced two anime shorts, which would be presented during the Jump Super Anime Tour.  One of these was One Piece: Romance Dawn Story, and the other was Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return.
With respect to One Piece, I think the Dragon Ball special was a much bigger deal, as this was the first new anime from the franchise since Dragon Ball GT signed off in 1997.  Today, it’s kind of easy to overlook, because we have four new movies, 131 episodes of Dragon Ball Super, and however many chapters of the DBS manga.  But in 2008, it was pretty much understood that Dragon Ball had ended and would not return.  So even a one-off special like this was pretty historic.
In the fall of 2008, Shonen Jump put the special on their website, and I remember having to install a special browser to watch it.  I thought I had downloaded the episode as well, but this afternoon I went looking through my files and apparently I only got the browser.  I guess that might still work after all this time, except they took down the OAV in 2009. The only official release was in 2013, when it was included as a bonus feature of a limited edition of the Battle of Gods DVD.  So it’s on track to become another “lost movie”, like “Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans”.
You can track down Return on YouTube, but I couldn’t find a very good upload of the video.  A lot of fans tried to dub it themselves, probably  because there was never a proper English localization.  The only version I found with English subtitles was a “remastered” version, and from what I can tell, they just slapped their shitty watermark in the corner and did a horizontal flip of the footage to avoid a copyright strike.   So when I started this liveblog, I assumed this OAV was already in my collection, but it turned out to be the hardest one to arrange.
There was also a 2009 manga adaptation of this anime, so maybe that version is easier to find than this special, but I sure hope they just put all this stuff out there where people can buy it.  Anyway, let’s take a look at what we’ve got.
So, in case you’re not familiar with this OAV, this is the one with Tarble, Vegeta’s brother.  I’m pretty sure he hasn’t appeared anywhere else since, unless you count his inclusion in the roster of Raging Blast 2, and some other video games.  He was also mentioned during Battle of Gods and the recent Broly film, but mostly this was done just to remind the audience that they didn’t forget about him.  In Battle of Gods, Vegeta says that he has no idea how to find or contact Tarble, and I suspect this means that we may never see him again.  Then again, I never expected Dragon Ball to return before 2008, and here we are.
Tumblr media
This OAV also set the stage for a lot of what was done with the characters in Super.  Goku’s got the same farmer’s outfit here that we see him wear in Super, and he mentions that Mr. Satan recently gave him some money, which is depiced in DBS Episode 1.
Continuity-wise, this takes place two years after the defeat of Kid Buu.  As I recall, Battle of Gods was supposed to be set four years after the defeat of Kid Buu, to give you an idea.
Tumblr media
So during that two-year peacetime, Chi-Chi has gotten Goku to start a radish farm, while Mr. Satan has built a new hotel.  The grand opening will take place soon, but he wants to hold a private party there the day before, and invite everyone from the Buu Saga to celebrate their victory.
This greatly embarrasses Videl, so she calls Gohan to tell him about it.  Mr. Satan got all the credit for defeating Buu, but that isn’t true at all.  So she thinks his ego has gotten out of control.
Also, there’s this cute sequence in the background as Satan and Buu give their dog a bath.  First they shove him down the hall, then Buu carries him back the other way, with suds all over him.
Tumblr media
That night, Gohan tells the rest of the family that they’ve been invited.  Goku and Chi-Chi aren’t interested, but Gohan casually brings up how it’s all-you-can-eat, and suddenly Goku’s on board.  The weird thing is that Gohan seems extremely relieved about this, and even thinks “Now Videl won’t yell at me.”  I don’t understand where he would have gotten that idea.  Videl just seemed frustrated about her dad’s extravagance.  I never got the sense that she wanted or needed Goku to come to this party, or that she would have been upset with Gohan if he couldn’t convince his dad to attend.
Anyway, I just really like this shot of the four of them sitting at the table.  We never got to see this sort of thing in DBZ, but now we can.  It’s nice.
Tumblr media
The next day, Videl arrives to pick them up, and Roshi immediately gawks at Chi-Chi’s boobs, so she hits him in the face with a frying pan.
Tumblr media
They get to the hotel, and Goku greets Buu’s pet dog.  He’s called “Bay” in the subtitles, and the name “Bee” seems to be official, as it gets used throughout the dub, but the weird thing I discovered in 2019 was that the dog never gets named throughout the entire Japanese script for the anime.  So I’m not sure when the name was finally introduced.  Maybe it was in the manga, but if that’s the case, you’d think it would have been used in the anime as well.  Or maybe it was one of those things they put in the guidebooks or whatever.
Tumblr media
I just always liked this interaction with the two of them, where Goku greets Bee like a fellow veteran of the Kid Buu Saga, even though Bee was just a frightened puppy on the Sacred World of the Kais.  But he fought as hard as the others.  He borked and borked and then Kid Buu finally dropped dead, so I call that a win.
Tumblr media
So one really weird thing about this special is how Mr. Satan somehow got Kibitoshin and the Elder Supreme Kai to show up for this.  Also King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory are in attendance, they’re all dead.  I’m pretty sure this is the first and only time we ever see King Kai in the mortal plane.  Maybe this was why Gohan thought it was so important to get Goku to come to this thing.  Goku’s the only one who could get in touch with some of these characters, so without his help, Mr. Satan’s party would have been a very small affair.
Tumblr media
Then the press shows up, despite Mr. Satan’s best efforts to keep this private.  They just want to know the name of the hotel, and it soon gets revealed as “The Mr. Satan World-Saving Defeat of Majin Buu Super Gorgeous Hotel.”  Try saying that three times fast.
Satan seems mortified to have the name revealed, like he’s ashamed of it or something, but they were going to reveal this tomorrow anyway, so I don’t understand his reaction.  Then the media seem really pleased with the name, and he embraces it.  I don’t understand this whole plotline.
Tumblr media
So, first of all, no one in the general public should even remember the name “Majin Buu”.  That’s because Goku used the Dragon Balls to wipe their memories of Majin Buu, so that Fat Buu could live among them without causing a panic.  They remember the Buu crisis, and that a terrible monster killed them all, but they don’t remember what the monster’s name was, or that it looked exactly like the big pink dude Mr. Satan hangs out with all the time.
So I get Videl’s embarrassment, because it resembles her feelings in DBZ Episode 289.  As she put it, everyone believes her father saved the world from something, but no one knows what it was.   Also, it was during the Buu Saga that she learned her dad never beat Cell either, so I think she’s still coping with the fact that her dad’s business empire is all based on lies.
However, Dragon Team takes the whole thing in stride, because they’ve known the truth all along, and they never resented Satan about it before.  Now, they like the guy, because he really did help them out with Majin Buu.  And now that he knows the truth about them, he’s been extremely humble around them, albeit privately.  I mean, the fact that he’s throwing this party in their honor kind of sums it up, doesn’t it?  He’s opening a hotel that commemorates “his” victory over Buu, but the day before, he invites the gang over to celebrate the true heroes of that struggle.
And it’s kind of an awkward balance for Mr. Satan, made even more awkward when the press unexpectedly show up and he has to play both roles at once, but I don’t get how the hotel is an example of Satan’s ego getting out of control.
Also, why a hotel?  This sounds like a museum or a monument would make more sense, but maybe hotels have a different significance in Japanese culture?  It’s also kind of weird how this is like Mr. Satan’s project.  You’d think that someone else would build the hotel and he would simply get royalties for attaching his name and likeness to it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, just before the gang can start eating, a pair of Saiyan Attack Balls land on Earth, and everyone senses a powerful ki.  It’s someone new, and that someone heads straight for the party, and Vegeta recognizes him as Tarble, his younger brother.
Why have we never heard of this guy before?  Because Tarble had the same origin story as Goku.  During the rule of the Vegeta dynasty, Saiyan babies were tested for battle potential, and those determined to be unfit were launched into space to defenseless planets, where they could grow up and conquer in relative safety.  And say what you will about King Vegeta III, but he was no hypocrite, as he followed that policy with his own son, sending Tarble to some other planet because his test scores weren’t up to snuff.
And this always illustrated the nonsense behind the Saiyans’ attempts to breed better warriors.  The whole idea was to remove the weakest specimens from their own population, and devote the best training and resources to the strongest, so that they could produce even stronger generations in the future.   Except Goku had extremely low test scores, and yet he wound up becoming the Legendary Super Saiyan.  Meanwhile, Vegeta and Tarble are brothers, yet one of them tested well and the other one didn’t, which sort of exposes the notion of Saiyan power is hereditary.
Anyway, Tarble grew up on some remote world, and apparently he became its defender instead of conquering it.  Then some new threat appeared, and it was too much for him.  So he went looking for help, and a Namekian once told him that Vegeta went to Earth after Frieza’s downfall.  So he’s here to ask Vegeta to save his adopted world.
Tumblr media
Vegeta finds it unseemly for Tarble to ask others to handle his problems, but he’s in the mood for a fight, so he’s down to clown.  But several other guests at the party want to fight, and Goku points out that they can’t all just gang up on the enemy, so he proposes a lottery.   They all teleport back to his house, where they can pull radishes out of his farm.  The one with the longest radish gets to fight.
Tumblr media
Goten seems to have the game won, but then Trunks’ radish turns out to be like 100 feet long, so he gets the nod.
Tumblr media
At this point, Tarble’s companion wishes Trunks good luck, and Vegeta finally asks who that is.  Turns out, it’s Tarble’s wife, Gure.
Tumblr media
Roshi makes some dumb remark about Saiyans always choosing strange wives, so Chi-Chi and Bulma beat the shit out of him with cookware.
Tumblr media
So they go back to the hotel just in time to meet Tarble’s enemies, who have followed him here.  Vegeta recognizes them as Frieza’s men, Abo and Cado, who were once on par with the Ginyu Force.  Tarble says they were away during Frieza’s downfall, and since that time they have gone into business for themselves, and they’ve become as powerful as Frieza himself.
So you have to assume that Tarble must be pretty strong himself by now, if these guys came to his planet and he managed to put up any sort of resistance, right?  I mean, he didn’t know about Super Saiyans, but if Abo and Cado are as strong as Frieza, then Tarble must be at least as strong as Vegeta was on Namek, right?
Tumblr media
Anyway, since there are two bad guys, Goku finagles Goten into this contest to even things up.
Tumblr media
Also, Oolong is dressed up like a sexy maid, and serving coffee and sandwiches to the spectators.  That seems like a long way to go for a bit, but Oolong’s a shapeshifter, so maybe he can just will himself to have different outfits on.
Oh, I didn’t notice Puar’s doing the same bit.  So why wouldn’t they both use their shape shifting powers to look like actual maids?  I mean, if that’s what they’re going for, right?
Tumblr media
The four combatants fight evenly at first, but we know Trunks and Goten aren’t even trying that hard because they’re still in base form.  This is just the beginning.  And see, this all makes sense, because none of the main cast is sweating Abo and Cado for a second.  Tarble is afraid of these guys, but everyone else knows they’re just jobbers, fit only for a little practice with the boys.
Tumblr media
Then Abo and Cado use some sort of multiform technique to turn the tables.  Goten and Trunks are stymied...
Tumblr media
... until Gohan offers to coach them.   He tells Trunks which way to hit, and tells Gohan to use his ki senses to figure out which one of the multiforms is real.
Wait... I just figured that out.  It seemed strange to me that Gohan would give each one different advice, but maybe that’s the idea.  So it looks like Abo and Cado are doing the multiform technique just like Krillin and Piccolo did against Nappa back in the day.  However, that technique produces three copies of a fighter’s body.  There is no “real” one because they’re all real.
However, the advice about closing your eyes and using ki senses sounds very reasonable for countering the Afterimage technique which produces illusions.  So what if Abo and Cado are actually using both tricks at the same time, switching back and forth to confuse their opponents?  Pretty tricky.  Well, not really, since Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo all seem to see through it very easily, but it’s tricky enough to confuse Goten and Trunks.
Tumblr media
Then Abo and Cado combine into a single, purple alien.  This form is known as “Abocado” although Goten and Trunks are the only ones who call him that, so maybe they made it up on the spot.  I think we all know what’s coming next...
Tumblr media
Fusion!  Wait, they fucked it up.  Well, they haven’t had to do this in a while.
Tumblr media
There we go.  I think this OAV is the first indication that characters can de-fuse and re-fuse quickly like this.  In the Buu Saga, Gotenks didn’t know how to separate, other than just waiting for the thirty-minute time limit to expire.  But maybe Goku showed him how.  And maybe it’s possible for Goten and Trunks to re-fuse without the rest period.  Originally, there was a cooldown period for the Fusion Dance, but that seems to have gone out the window in later works, such as this one.
Tumblr media
So Gotenks uses the Wolf Fang Fist on Abocado, then follows up with the Volleyball Fist, which was Tien’s signature move in the 22nd Budokai.  This is kind of special, because Tien’s not even in this OAV.  His voice actor, Hirotaka Suzoki, had died of lung cancer in 2006, and so Tien wasn’t included in this production, to honor his memory.  And so the Volleyball Fist is kind of the only reference to Tien we get in this thing.
Tumblr media
And then Gotenks turns Super Saiyan to finish with the Dynamite Rolling Thunder Punch, which is one from his own personal moveset.  See, he started as base Goten and Trunks, then they fused, then Super Saiyan.   The fight escalated as it went on, and the different forms followed that progression.  That alone makes this little side-story better than every episode of GT.
Tumblr media
But Abocado doesn’t go down so easily, and he starts shooting his big finishing blast.  Gotenks blocks it, but it wrecks the hotel, and the other Z-Fighters have to bust out their own signature moves to protect the civilians.  Goku and Vegeta finally step in, but Goku distracts Vegeta and teleports ahead...
Tumblr media
Where he delivers a Kamehameha and big punch to put Abocado down for the count.  Not sure why he’s blue here.
Tumblr media
When it’s over, Vegeta complains about Goku distracting him in order to steal the win.  Goku’s like “Yeah, that was kind of inconsiderate of me, Vegeta.  Remember that time you broke every bone in my body and beat up my son?”
Tumblr media
So the battle’s over, but Mr. Satan’s new hotel is destroyed.  Videl tells him he should take this as a lesson in humility, which seems to sink in, until Goku suggests that he use the Dragon Balls to ask Shenron to restore the place.  Videl scolds him again and that seem to talk him out of it.
Also, Launch has been here the whole time, but she never says or does anything.  Just stating that for the record.
Tumblr media
So they go back to eating, because I guess the food wasn’t damaged in the battle.  Gure is shocked-- shocked I say-- to see Saiyans eating lots of food.  Does Tarble just never eat in front of her?  That seems kind of like a strange way to live.
Maybe Gure is finally realizing that this was what happened to her prize racehorse, Marmalade Thunder.  She didn’t escape from the stable that night after all.  It was Tarble.   It was Tarble all along.
Tumblr media
“This is a good spread, Kakarot, but you know what would make it even better?”
“I dunno, a racehorse?”
“Hell yeah.”
Tumblr media
Also Abo and Cado have turned good and are joining the party.  I guess they just love radishes so they’re gonna eat all of those.
Tumblr media
Then Goku eats Vegeta’s sushi, and he takes some of Goku’s pork in retaliation, so they both turn Super Saiyan and look like they’re about to throw down.  But that’ll have to wait for some other anniversary special, I guess.
Tumblr media
This special is about “an evil menace that failed to register in public memory.”  As the narrator points out, Abo and Cado might have been a big honkin’ deal, if they had shown up years earlier.   But they didn’t, and so they turned out to be a one-shot affair.
Tumblr media
And that’s it.  I’ll close out by noting that the opening credits for this OAV feature all new animation with Goten and Trunks worked into the classic DBZ opening.
Tumblr media
And the end credits feature a new song, “Orange Hero”, which features scenes of various characters just chilling out.  I like this one of the Son Family with Satan and Videl.
So that’s it.  The special wasn’t too big a deal in terms of its plot.  The whole point was to introduce a threat that would only be dangerous enough to justify a lot of fun callbacks. Still, it added some new lore to the franchise, and it set the tone for everything that came after.

Everyone, Finally, Knows That (Substack Link in Bio)
Tumblr media
I didn’t foresee myself watching a 1986 porno in my living room today, but there have been stranger things. The adult film begins with humble opening credits, and then an eruption of thunderous clouds fills the screen. Zoom in. There is an almost imperceptible narration. Cut to a man getting into a car. Headlights flash, and a guitar riff overtakes the soundtrack. The tires screech even louder; he might want to get those checked.
We immediately jump to a scene where a woman is performing cunnilingus on another woman (Friend? Partner? Coworker?). A man, mustache and all, opens the door and chuckles, “You two are the horniest girls I’ve ever met!” I’m assuming this is something he regularly walks in on. More credits and driving sequences are dispersed throughout, along with bits of the usual porno exposition. There’s another plot with a couple in a car—the man kind of looks like Fred from Scooby-Doo. The two make out, but the poor guy jizzes his pants, much to blondie’s dismay. The woman, in particular, has a terrific sardonic delivery of “Yeah, call me.” Get her an Emmy! Primetime, of course.
Title card: Angels of Passion. The storyline is expectedly choppy, but it appears to go from threesome to car crash to threesome in heaven. (A surprisingly artistic low-angle shot had followed the trio walking about their incandescent surroundings in the nude. Yes, the carpets matched the drapes.) After more run-of-the-mill intercourse, a man in white emerges from a glowing ball and introduces himself as William. He’s aware of their confusion and assures them that they’re dead. “Oh, bummer,” says pornstache.
The cause of death was a drunk driver colliding with the motorhome where the trio had set up sex-shop. The following dialogue is achingly slow, but we get a minute-in-heaven-is-days-on-Earth spiel, setting up pornstache’s wristwatch to be Chekhov’s X-rated gun. Jesus Christ, I didn’t suspect a time-manipulation narrative. Then again, this was the 80s.
William says he’ll be gone for five minutes, and the trio wants to take their ménage à trois on tour before he gets back. To travel to Earth, all they had to do was snap their fingers like in the movies, as pornstache aptly puts it. They pull the shenanigans you’d think they’d pull, using their newfound angelic statuses to improve the sex lives of mortals, naturally including demonstrations. The character count expands: a sexually-latent secretary, a suicidal businessman, and even domestic fucking terrorists, emphasis on the fucking.
Now I realize I’ve spent a few too many paragraphs describing a porno, and I don’t think my mother would be very proud. But it is this video that contains the lewd answer to a musical mystery.
WatZatSong.com is a website where curious users submit song snippets, hoping someone can come along to identify them. In 2021, a user named Carl92 uploaded a 17-second scrap that could’ve been a backtrack to an 80s pop-fueled summer vacation. It was incredibly catchy and stirred up a cyber storm. How could something sound so familiar be unknown?
People dubbed the elusive audio as “Everyone Knows That” (EKT) or “Ulterior Motives” in accordance with the limited lyrics, which were still highly debated due to the muddied sound quality. Eventually, Carl92 stopped interacting on WatZatSong, and people perceived this to be a dead end.
In 2023, the audio was uploaded to YouTube, and the uploader used a picture of a glittery pink CD player, which tied this song to that iconic image. As more and more days passed by, this tune attracted a substantial and dedicated following. People were restricted to only 17 seconds of sound, and all they could see was the flash photo of a CD player, its round speakers like alien eyes.
The r/everyoneknowsthat subreddit now has more than 40,000 members, which is a higher population than Liechtenstein, if that example makes any sense to you. The subreddit was made to guide the search, and it is littered with memes, potential leads, and debunked cases. After u/One-Truth-5867 heard a similar song in a random clip on YouTube, they enlisted the help of u/south_pole_ball to search a catalog of vintage pornos. And then they found it.
At approximately 01:07:30 in Angels of Passion, you can begin to hear the synth-pop beat between breathy moans and grunts. Hilariously, the famous snippet occurred during the rare moment of silence between the actors, suggesting Carl92 had cut around the erotic noise to avoid any shameful admission of the music’s source. However, I can understand why Carl92 would be motivated to find this song. The classic steamy bedroom sex, with a bright-red Coca-Cola sign hanging on the wall, underscored by a peppy, libidinous track, puts you in the fantasy and keeps you wanting more.
At the end of the film, the once booming, gray clouds start to clear. The credits roll, and for the score, I see two names: Chris & Phi. The names, which I’m sure were shortened for discreetness, point to Christopher Saint Booth and Philip Adrian Booth, identical twin brothers who composed soundtracks for a variety of pornos. Currently, they produce, direct, and compose for seemingly low-rent horror films (as if horror films aren’t already low-rent enough). What they do, however, is not up to my judgement; if they are content, then I am, too. They clearly are talented enough to create such a craze around a song in a dated adult film, and I would be open to seeing more of what they have to offer.
I try to imagine myself in a 1980s fairytale, and I wonder what it would be like if I were some hunky actor who pursued pornography in that era’s energized, consumerist culture. This blue movie, while not necessarily great by any means, was interesting in the fact that it was determined to tell a story and entice the viewer into a make-believe of their base desires.
The reality of all this, as usual, doesn’t check out. Adult production studios, which are extremely male-dominated, obviously take advantage of pornstars. Shit wages, shit contracts, everything is shit—and I’m certain it was worse back then. Two of the actors in this film, Tracey Adams and Steve Drake, were involved in a court case where distributors Charles Brickman and Thomas Ingalls were accused of felony pandering in the production of sex tapes. I looked more into Tracey, and apparently vodka has become her sleep medicine. It’s a messy industry, to say the least.
This whole event is darkly humorous to me. “Everyone Knows That” mocked its obsessive, clueless audience with each replay. Ill-fated Carl92 has become infamously linked to whacking his willy to the song. The song, itself, is just some porno jingle meant to accentuate the carnality on screen. I saw a comment that speculated, in another universe, if the roles were reversed and Madonna’s “Material Girl” ended up being the fleeting ditty, later reduced to a few mere seconds for a community to investigate; and I wondered why people, myself included, lived in these nostalgic fever dreams.

hi bbg i have a question for you, how different is european spanish from latin american spanish? also do you know of any spanish speaking youtubers/streamers u would reccomend to me :)
There are a lot of differences, also considering how latin american Spanish is so different within its countries
Fun fact, there is a commonly used abbreviation of latin america, latam
In Argentina they use the word "vos" to refer to "tú" ("you"). This is generally pretty unused in other latam countries and especially in Spain, it's a pretty old way to refer to someone in a higher position you're not friends with with respect. Also generally in latam they tend to use more formal words, like "usted" or "ustedes" ("you" in singular and "you" in plural. They're formal words just trust me bro)
There are also differences in how we name things. A particular phenomenon I've noticed is how they tend to use words that are more English sounding, which is understandable considering how closely connected these countries -especially mexico- are to the US
Imma put English words, then the word in latam, then the word in Spain
Refrigerator: refrigerador, nevera
Computer: computadora, ordenador
Cellphone: celular, teléfono/móvil
For Spanish speaking YouTubers I recommend, there are a few which are very funny and very poggers
Rangugamer: he plays videogames on YouTube. His videos are most of the time an hour long so unless the adhd stars align on you it's better that you watch compilations of funny moments. He makes a lot of adult/dark jokes but they're incredibly funny, he is really good giving varied voices to the characters in the games he's playing, he's actually gained a little bit of fame for being able to predict shit in the stuff he's in the middle of playing, and he's managed to make a lot of popular memes that get referenced by other spanish youtubers
Eme: this man hasn't uploaded an animation in two years but his videos from like six years ago are still extremely funny. He makes a lot of puns and jokes you can only get if you can understand and decompose the language but if you don't get them it just looks like silly stuff that comes out of nowhere which is entertaining nonetheless. There are also a bunch of other visual gags and random bs that are funny even if you don't understand jack shit, like a dictionary he has that moans when it gets opened. Pretty nice ngl
Invokah: he mostly makes Deltarune theories but he's also talked about other stuff like Inazuma 11, rain code, and yo-kai watch. His videos actually get subtitled to a shit ton of languages, so you can watch it with English subtitles and learn a word or two that way. He's pretty entertaining and his character is nicely designed and drawn
Leyendas y videojuegos: he makes theory videos and dissects lore and talks about game development and whatnot and he's talked about a shitton of games, including FEZ which is why I love him forever and ever and he is so cool. He's actually making a videogame of his own and putting the development logs as videos in his channel. Also he's friends with Rangu, the guy I talked about earlier, and they're fucking hilarious together he thought squids were made of legit rubber
Joseju: this guy is an absolute god of comedy. He talks about videogames but in every video he always brings something new to the table. He reviewed a racing game where all the characters are in zooming toilets in fucking prose like it was a poem. He roleplayed as Walter White on skate 3. He made an hour long video where he dubbed over metal gear solid with a few other people like it was a shitty movie. He was actually the reason why I got into GRIS not because the video was really funny, but because he chose not to make the video funny because the game was just too delicate and sensible and beautiful to do that to it. He's made legendary skits dubbing over the flex tape commercial and over fish documentaries. He became a waiter at this random burger joint just because. He played fucking amongus VR and ran over his dryer. He made a review of tears of the kingdom where the thumbnail was a picture of him with the text "I don't believe in human rights" with flames in the background. You gotta watch at least one video of this guy please I beg you
As for latam YouTubers the ones I can undoubtedly recommend are
Sr.Pelo: you know why he's here
Holasoygerman: this guy hasn't uploaded a video to his channel in like 6 years but people still regularly rewatch all of his videos because he's just that funny and nostalgic (it's me I'm people). He makes short videos that are around 10 minutes long where he talks about random things in a funny way, like the first time something happened in the history of humanity, food, typical things, the friendzone, and the English language. I'm pretty sure most of his videos have English subtitles so u could try watching them n learn cool stuff. His stuff is so ancient it was actually a rather running gag across multiple videos how he's so excited for GTA V to come out and he can't wait. GTA V. The old ass game where it is a universal gag that instead of making GTA VI they just remake it over and over for years and years. Yeah he's pretty cool u should watch him

Me and my bf are currently in the effort of archiving all the content of Nexo Knights, and I'm sure most of you know the situation around "Knights Of The Realm" by now
If not, "Knights Of The Realm" was a 40-minute two part special within the Merlock 2.0 app, and detailed the childhood/backstories of all the main characters and how they became friends/teammates. As for why Lego thought putting such important lore into a mobile app and, I dunno, the ACTUAL show, is beyond me --- but thats besides the point
I've emailed Lego, a customer service woman says it's not within their archives. I've also emailed the animation studio behind Nexo Knights, but they haven't gotten back to me
The only existing footage on YouTube (that we know of) comes from that of a kid aiming his phone camera at a tablet, but today I come to the fandom with a new development: an in-game recording of part 1 has been found! Hallelujah!
I'm in the process of getting it recorded and up to YouTube, but for now you can find it here on Biiliibiilii (China's YouTube, essentially):
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV18x411t7VH/?spm_id_from=333.337.search-card.all.click
I've also gotten in-touch with multiple users on YouTube who uploaded guides to download APK's of the Merlock 2.0 app, asking if they can access and screen record it. I'll update on how that goes :)
And as a side note, I found this short in my efforts to locate all the different language dubs for the show. Alongside the short I found:
The entirety of seasons 3 and 4 in Chinese (good quality too):
The entirety of the show (I think, haven't checked every episode yet) in Russian:
https://vseseriipodriad.ru/multfilmy/2797-rycari-nekso.html
AND, last but not least: what I think is the only existing footage for the Legoland 4D ride. There's a trailer for this ride on YouTube, but HERE is the actual in-ride footage:
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1MK4y1k7QU/?spm_id_from=333.337.search-card.all.click
My search to access the Japanese dub is proving most challenging, but I am DETERMINED, especially after getting so much progress with these. Anyways you're all in debt to me and Aaron Fox = best boy BYEEEEEE LMAOOO

Crazy Macaroni or The Error of Professor Bugensburg AKA “Macaroni Madness” is an animated/live-action hybrid film directed by David Cherkassky (Adventures of Captain Vrungel, Treasure Island 1988) from 1992 that was never finished due to a lack of funding.
It’s described as “a surreal fairy tale for adults”, and from what little video there is of it, it certainly looks a lot more sexually risqué than Cherkassky’s previous works and could have turned up the cartoon violence to eleven. Currently only four minutes of footage exists in the form of what appears to be a trailer or pitch that’s dubbed in English for some reason that was uploaded to Youtube by the film’s makeup artist, named Alla Churya.

youtube
The film is said to have been produced by a company called “Slavuta Productions Ltd.” rather than Kievnauchfilm, but I can’t find anything else about it.
Otherwise, the most information I can find on this movie comes from the website of the actor/director Viktor Andrienko (the VA of Captain Smollett from Treasure Island) which has a cast and crew list and some set photos which you can see here.
Tumblr media
(Viktor Andrienko)
Tumblr media
Armen Dzhigarkhanyan
Tumblr media
Many of the actors comprise of the voice talents who had been staples in Cherkassky’s previous works, such as the aforementioned Victor Andrienko, plus Georgiy Kishko, Seymon Farada, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, and others.
None of the sources I could find gave an indication about the plot, which - judging by the trailer - looks all over the place. You’ve got stuff from sci-fi, Westerns, cartoon animal storybook-looking stuff, Victorian era, and of course, pirates, because for some reason pirates kept showing up in Cherkassky’s work.
Going by the cast list on Andrienko’s website, there’s a mix of historical and literary characters. Andrienko plays Inspector Lestrade from Sherlock Holmes, and other characters include Bluebeard, the Marquis de Sade, and most surprisingly of all, John Silver and Black Dog from Treasure Island, though in what appears to be some cruel joke, John Silver would not have been voiced by Dzhigarkhanyan, but rather by Seymon Farada (Banditto from Captain Vrungel), while Dzhigarkhanyan would have played a different character, and Black Dog would have been voiced by Georgiy Kishko, who voiced Blind Pew in Treasure Island, so I don’t know why Pew wouldn’t have been in the movie instead… I don’t know if John Silver and Black Dog would have literally been their cartoon counterparts or if they would have been different adaptations who coincidentally were in the movie.
I’m gonna guess there would have been some time travel or inter dimensional travel linking the cartoon world with the live-action world, and the live-action world across multiple time periods.
It’s hard to judge how a movie would have been from just four minutes of footage. The animated footage integrated into live-action certainly looks more advanced than what was in Treasure Island, while the live-action stuff is like the Captain Flint sections of Treasure Island on a sugar rush. It was probably gonna be absolutely bonkers.

holy fuck. im so sad. for ppl who are not aware (most ppl who follow me atp im assuming) ive been watching and sometimes talking up this show called Junior League/Team for a little bit now but kinda stopped watching it bc playoffs and real hockey just took over my brain. i went to go get caught up and. the show is in russian, right, and its rlly hard to find translations But theres been a youtube channel uploading complete dubbed episodes. like there was two seasons worth of episodes they had uploaded (along with a couple other russian shows) and despite how goofy some of the voices are it's genuinely high quality and good translations. and its all GONE. searched the normal title and nothing comes up. couldnt find the channel. scrolled all the way back in my watch history to march when i last caught up and none of the videos are there. What the Fuck man.

While I love Mike Pollock I have seen some tweets of him suggesting that he just doesn't want to be known for his work as Eggman and wants to discuss his other works more, he also liked the tweets of Flynn saying the same thing, I feel bad cause I send him a compliment for Eggman, do you know some of his other works? would like to know his other characters
Yeah, he's been trying to emphasize that for a long time and I don't know why some people have a problem with that because of course he'd want people to check out his other work, instead of only acknowledging his Sonic-related stuff and acting like he's just Eggman no matter what he does and nothing more, overlooking tons of his other great work that's entirely separate from it and is absolutely worth checking out. It's great that you have an interest in doing so and I'm happy to help you get started. :D
I've looked at a ton of his stuff over the years but he has hundreds and hundreds so I still haven't seen them all but I try to check out everything that's available to me. I've heard him in a bunch of TV shows, video games, movies, audio dramas, commercials. I have a game where practically every elderly guy in the game has his voice, Just Cause 3 lol. I have a plush that's voiced by him too!
I first heard him in Sonic X, Viva Pinãta, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 show, and Pokemon around the same time because of 4Kids dubbing. My favorite singular other roles of his that I've heard have to be Langston Lickatoad, the Garbageman, and Adon Coborlwitz. Though he's got a ton of other great roles in a bunch of stuff that's also definitely worth checking out.
Here's what he commonly links on Twitter as a good way to see a lot of it:
That definitely doesn't have everything in it though. There's stuff that isn't supposed to be general public knowledge and other things that haven't been listed on here yet. But it's still one of the ideal places to look! I enjoy picking any character, looking into how to find and listen to it, and the joy of being like "there he is!" when I find his voice in there and get to hear more of his incredible talent hehe.
His pure audio stuff isn't on there, I found out about those through his Twitter and a number of them were available on Spotify and were linked throughout his Twitter.
You can listen to more of his audio with comedy bits, parodies, demos, and other fun stuff on his SoundCloud:
Looking around on his website is a good place for more information and links to more stuff:
He also has a big playlist on YouTube with more things he's been in that have been uploaded there, including commercials!:
Obviously, not all of them are here because he's done so many that haven't been uploaded and some of my favorites were made private by the brand uploaders and I'll always be sad that I can't hear it again lol. He also has some cool stuff in other playlists on his YouTube channel. I also recommend watching more interviews and panels with him uploaded on others' YouTube channels if you haven't because it's really interesting to hear him talk about his work and he's charismatic, funny, and entertaining. ^^
I also recommend putting on post notifications on his Twitter to keep up with him sharing some of his newest work when they're announced and released because they don't get listed on websites after. I have to save stuff to my Twitter bookmarks or else I can't find the information and content again!
And there you go! Have fun. 🌟✨💜

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 92 (and 91) Subbed (Finalized) Release Clip | The Kingdom of Toons
So, this was going to be an April Fools "lol the dub music" upload to preview my finalized 91/92 release, hoping to use the dub's Toon theme with this scene, but I liked the idea too much to not follow through after the vocal/music-and-SFX isolator I was using took so long to process the dub audio, lol. almost 24 hours lol rip
This actually... works pretty well, surprisingly? Even the rest of the dub's OST to some extent lol help
But since dub!92 used less of the Toon World theme here than I remembered (and it is legitimately one of the better tunes the dub came up with), I did want to do an edit with the full Toon theme as an actual score--the downside to that is I'd have had to redo the SFX since I'm not as good with isolating just the SFX atm. But I've uploaded it separately here if you'd like to see how it sounds as a proof of concept, haha.
(The video bars are to prevent it being blocked on YouTube)

YouTube channel
Upload schedule: TBD
Public discord:
Don't be a jerk.
This account is a place where I will post things that I find interesting along with some of my drawings, which will be drawn on paper cause I have no idea how to do otherwise.(they probably won't be that good)If someone has a suggestion on what I should do with one of my characters and asks NICELY I might draw it.
My YouTube channel is where I will upload whatever I want. Mostly ranging from Minecraft, rocket League, sonic games, or maybe some dubs of my comics.
Fanart is cool and all but if you do want to do something with one of my characters please either ask first or credit me. If not I will have to ask you to take it down. (Unless you just forgot to credit me. I will ask first most of the time)

sometimes I can't decide on a clip and there aren't any requests, so what I do in those instances is randomize the process via random.org and do the following:
pick a series at random from 1-3 (Real-Time Fandub, SnapCube's Real-Time Fandub, or BTDubs, respectively)
if I land on RTF, pick a random episode from 1-202 (if there is no footage for that dub, I roll again)
if I land on SRTF, pick a random episode from 1-10 (if I land on Spider-Man or Until Dawn, I move on to pick which part, 1-3 or 1-2)
if I land on BTDubs, pick a random episode from 1-8
for the episode I land on, I go to Premiere Pro and convert the video length to total frames and then plug that in to pick the start frame at random
(if available as both a full Patreon upload or a YouTube highlight reel, I'll choose at my own discretion)
when I pick a random frame, I'll start whenever a sentence starts and end when I find it funny. If I don't like it, I repeat the process from any one of these stages
I have no reason for posting this, it's just for those who are interested in how the account works

how long have you been a fan of dhmis?? ive been a fan since 2015 so ive seen quite alot i think but idk
Tumblr media
Ever since the Kids react video came out about it in 2013.
I would watch the kids react videos all the time, I don’t anymore since they tried to copyright the word React all those years ago.
Although, I will admit, after watching the first one it did keep me up for a couple of nights.
And I think I got extreme Chronophobia for a long while after watching dhmis 2 in 2014.
I wasn’t really active in the fandom in its early years, as I was a middle schooler but I watched every single Tony X Paige humanization comic dub I could find on YouTube and even saw the Kickstarter videos as they were uploaded. I couldn’t donate sadly because you know, middle schooler.
I believe I started this blog sometime in April of 2016 as that’s how far my archive goes, that means I launched this blog when I was in 8th grade, dhmis 6 started filming (or wrapping up filming) I believe in may of that year, so I nearly started at the tail end of the fandom. And I mostly stayed silent in 2017-2020, only posting once or twice every couple of months or so until the Wakey Wakey teaser came out and even then I didn’t really post much.
I don’t know why I started becoming more active again in 2021… maybe I was bored? maybe I felt the fandom started becoming more active enough to even bother posting? maybe I felt like I had to? maybe I felt that this was my calling?
All I do know is that ever since 2013 Becky and Joe have had their hands around my neck, ready to ring all the blood out of me like a wet towel.
