The special Valentine's Day album was released after bassist Mike Hanlon let it slip during an interview that the band had "many love songs written and laying around. Probably enough for a whole album." Twitter was livid and #sharkpuppyvday was trending, with each band member receiving thousands of mentions a minute until the official Twitter account posted a picture of a Valentine's Day Card on fire, with the words "We fucking got the message, alright!" and a release date at the bottom. On the date written, Crush was released to critical and public acclaim. There are 7 love songs, one written by each band member. Then there are three silly bonus tracks afterward.
Track List
1. Set Me Aflame written by Ben Hanscom. A surprise appearance on the album, considering Hanscom's bandmates vowed to never let him write a love song again after 'Winter Fire'. This ballad on guitar is about Hanscom's long time girlfriend and bandmate, Beverly Marsh. Just as beautifully sappy and romantic as his last song, this track talks about romance finally beginning rather than pining. Vocals on record by Ben Hanscom.
2. He's A Poet written by Beverly Marsh. This song pairs with Hanscom's song, his literally leading into hers. Marsh claims Hanscom "basically wrote this song for her" since the chorus is a poem he wrote for her when he asked her out on their first date. The song describes going from harsh, abusive words to the healing and words of a poet. Vocals on record by Beverly Marsh.
3. Farmer Boy written by William 'Big Bill' Denbrough. A country song rumored to be about bandmate, Mike Hanlon. Denbrough describes a man with muscles and kind heart, who "literally swept me away". A sweet and cute song that became a surprise hit on the app Tik Tok for meme videos. However, Denbrough seems totally unaware of this. When asked in an interview how he felt about this, he replied, "I don't know what a Tick Tock is. Like a clock?!" The audio clip from that interview also became a hit on Tik Tok. Vocals on record by William 'Big Bill' Denbrough.
4. Coke Bottle Glasses written by Eddie Kasbrak. Kaspbrak laments in this song about when he first got a crush as a kid on his now boyfriend and bandmate, Richie Tozier. Kaspbrak lists all of the things wrong with Tozier, from his appearance to his sense of humor, but then concedes that those are the reasons why he has fallen in love. Vocals on record by Eddie Kasprak
5. I Love You, Man written by Mike Hanlon. Rumored to be paired with Denbrough's song, Hanlon sings of a slow romance, love letters, and sharing a comforting drink in front of a fire in a room in a cabin somewhere where no one will bother them. Vocals on record by Mike Hanlon.
6. Freckles and Brown Eyes written by Richie Tozier. Written about his boyfriend and bandmate, Eddie Kaspbrak, Tozier describes staring at Kaspbrak when they were kids and all the things he loved about him, an everlasting love that transcends time. Tozier pours his soul into this track and leaves it bared within the notes. Vocals on record by Richie Tozier.
7. Blissful Rituals written by Stanley Uris. Uris claims this is written about his wife, Patty. However, the song is about two balls of moss decaying into nothing. There are many fan theories on what this could possibly mean. The song has become popular amongst lesbians on tumblr and Uris is now a 'lesbian protector' with the likes of singer Hozier. Vocals on record by Stanley Uris.
Bonus Tracks
1. I F****d Big Bill written by Ben Hanscom, Beverly Marsh, Eddie Kaspbrak, Mike Hanlon, Richie Tozier, and Stanley Uris. In this ridiculous and playful song, each bad member, in increasingly inappropriate detail, describes having intercourse with bandmate William Denbrough. Each one's account wildly differentiates from the last. Descriptions range from rough or sweet and romantic, top or bottom, fast or slow, a one time thing or a continuing affair, and any other number of things. Vocals on record by Ben Hanscom, Beverly Marsh, Eddie Kaspbrak, Mike Hanlon, Richie Tozier, and Stanley Uris.
2. Crush Me (With Those Thighs) written by Richie Tozier. The title is self-explanatory. Vocals on record by Richie Tozier.
3. The Librarian Checked Me Out written by William 'Big Bill' Denbrough. A more risqué and flirty version of his other song on this album, this is instead about making out with and groping a muscular man in the stacks of a library. Also heavily rumored to be about bandmate Mike Hanlon. Vocals on record by William 'Big Bill' Denbrough.
