when I had mush room 🍄 tea I had an experience where it was like all the trauma was just ripped away, like those viral tiktoks of people powerwashing their front walkway that they thought was black and it's like SURPRISE! ITS ACTUALLY RED UNDERNEATH! YOU SPENT TWENTY YEARS THINKING IT WAS BLACK! and it was a very like, bitch you live like this???? moment... like whoa I knew sort of theoretically that cptsd was a really huge and disabling problem for me but having that all just lifted away was like oh wow 75% of my personality is just trauma. huh. welp.
and now I can feel it, like, before it was just like well this is business as usual. sometimes things just happen in my nervous system and it's completely inscrutable and random but now I'm like ohhhh that horrible carbonated feeling is TRAUMA. THAT'S ANXIETY. THATS YOUR SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM. YOURE JUST LYING IN BED FOR HOURS MARINATING IN SCARED(TM)
anyway. enlightening experience. would really like to have it again and also TO NOT BE TRAUMATIZED

I was just gonna rant in the tags about how much I HIGHLY recommend Hyperobjects, but then I realized not including a link would be a disservice, so: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32968981
It's a soulmate fic set in space with a unique soulmate mechanic and non-standard voice that'll blow you away. It's so good. It's everything the asker above said, and it's also funny. It's perfect.
Heya! Just had to let you know that I am rereading your jaydick fic Hyperobjects for about the 20th time. I know I have already commented, but I must say again how phenomenal and amazing and endearing and sweet and exciting and romantic and lovely it is. One of my all-time favorites. I am all starry-eyed again. :)
AAAAHHH 😭💕🫂 thank you for letting me know, I am so so glad you're enjoying it still!!! Wow, seriously thank you, this really made my day. It was such a fun fic to write, I'm so glad the fun is still there when reading 💕✨️ It's such a magical feeling to find those fics you know you'll reread, thank you for letting me know this is one of them 🥺

Patrick Tomasso x “Succession: How the Camera Lies”.
This is a video essay on the cinematography of Succession on HBO. Let’s break down how the camera tricks you into thinking it’s all reactive and loose, when in fact it’s extremely calculated and precise.

At the KCC I learned basic principles of NHP physiology, even if it wasn't a course I excelled in or thought I would ever need (I too would be a poor companion in a relationship like you had I think, perhaps that is why I feel so drawn to explain Marten) but you're smaller, interpolated from a hyperobject prime, are you not? Separated out from its whole, made static and formable so we may interact like this. I wonder if the primes became as they are through timeless self-reflection in the blink, self-iterating as they had no outside to manifest against. I don't know of them, and I barely understand what is meant by "hyperobject." (Maybe I too am an interpolation of something bigger, a folded manifestation of Montague,)
But I know there were things out there, intellectually. The omninet uses the blink, the gates as well, but when I look into the nothing of realspace I see stuff reflected back at me. No matter how far the nothing goes the light of a star shines back, nebulae, their distance betrayed not by visual obscuration but by temporal delay.
I am used to being in "nothing" and seeing something, because something exists suspended somewhere in the void. The knowledge of what is there decayed in the instant I saw nothing suspended within it, heard no call, no signs on sensors, no clock ticking up, no feed from omni-enabled intel networks.
But who is to say what the primes look like, if I could see them at all. Perhaps next I meet the void I will meditate on the knowledge that at least they share the space with me.
When I looked into the blink I saw nothing and nothing and nothing.
Not the nothing of space (for you can see stars there) nor the nothing of the empty feed (it is uncertainty it is not true absence) but true nothing. Void that goes on forever.
When faced with nothing, I was forced to turn inward. I had to define myself without an outside to define myself by. And against nothing, what am I?
I am meat. I am mass. I am merely things. Merely this.
There was a point during my stay in the blink where I closed my eyes and tried to dream of home. I sit here in my quarters and wonder if this is a crude extension of those dreams. I never got to stay in Ispahsalar for long enough, as an adult, for it to feel familiar, but I have been in these quarters for months. Maybe this is still the dream. I have tricked myself with the familiar in order to stave off the realization that I am still there.
If I stay in les Fulgurites, I will see the blink again. How long until it is the home I return to, and realspace the temporary inconvenience?
I have to find a way out of here.

yknow i think we need to talk more about Wilson in the true ending
how he starts out as this small and helpless thing trapped inside a defective non-mobile body despite being fully sentient, only to then become part of (and consequently become) something unfathomably large and powerful, something more than just a building, or just a compound, or just a control system. i could (and just might) argue that uploaded Wilson (and with him the Arbeit and Combine systems) approaches the definition of a hyperobject, or perhaps fits it to a t. but my point here is: all of that was possible because, back when he was small and powerless to enact any sort of agency over even his own existence, someone helped him. yes, meeting 36 was basically a coincidence, and yes, originally he took Wilson with him because he had no other choice, but what matters is that when he was given a choice to leave him (which would make his traversal infinitely easier), 36 took him along. and it matters so much that even when he had every reason to believe Wilson was gone, he still fulfilled the wish timidly shared with him hours prior. underneath the snappy remarks and the "shut up"s and the emotional constipation, 36 cared, and in the end, that was enough to save Wilson. so of course, when the roles are suddenly reversed, and now it's 36 who is powerless to escape the torture inflicted on him, Wilson comes to help with no hesitation. of course he does.
