As a fellow Virgo/Enneagram One, I cannot emphasize enough how very much aligned it is with Kunikida's characterization for him to have a stated list of idealized standards for a partner while simultaneously being attracted only to disaster men he found in the trash.

the fact that I cannot simply quit my job. there’s plenty of food and space and skilled people in the world. things could function so much better with a tenth the labor if we were efficient about it. but we aren’t. and under capitalism I love my job - I am incredibly lucky to have it and even find it fulfilling in its way. but also I am disabled and my life would be 1000% easier if I just didn’t have to find miracle jobs to make what still comes to below poverty wages given how few hours I can manage. but even though the amount of money I make is play money to other people, it’s the only thing giving me dignity, both the dignity of privacy in spending and the false dignity of being a “productive member of society”. plus, like, I gotta eat and feed my cats, even if I’m currently rent free. but sometimes I think about the ways money and my job (and their relationship with my health) play as such large factors in my decision making and I just think, ideally, those would have less weight. ideally I could just quit my job and somehow still have money. not because I don’t love the work, but because of the limitations having to maintain both a work schedule and my fatigue put on me.

Actually. The most fucked up line from the trailer is how the collectors collect things so they can "never pass". Because I mean like. The Implications of it.

In a show that's all about change and grief. Where the collectors' main enemies were the Titans, beings that notably made new life, instead of just preserving what was already there. Where the main villains motive is his selfish inability to let go of his big brother and their childhood dream, resulting in a brutal cycle of destruction for the grimwalkers and the near genocide of the boilings isles. Where the main character's conflict stems from being pulled between an old, familiar but unkind world where she has only one person whos fighting for her, and a new, strange, horrifying but ultimately accepting world where she's grown a family that's now in danger of being turned into mindless puppets.

This is the thematic backdrop against which the collector and his kind have been set.

In other words: my friend who's seen spoilers was right. This episode IS going to make me cry

Not too sure if you keep up with jp twst updates but have you seen the new Halloween update with the fox dude, Honest Fellow? (Yes that's his name, I'm just gonna call him honest John cause his name's an adjective). I am seriously loving how expressive he is, his devious expressions are so good

i am keeping very up to date with what y'all are doing over there and so far i've been delighted by the idea that, while half of the school's named population is experiencing a prolonged hatecrime in a french catholic school, the other half will be running away to nonconsensual join a circus led by a catboy and nick wilde's humansona. i don't know enough about him to have any major thoughts, but rollo was so fun and it seems like they'll be going just as hard for this event as they did for the glorious masquerade. any event with an ortho ssr is bound to slap and i have no reason to doubt that honest fellow (because i refuse to disrespect such a brave naming choice) will contribute to that.

i don't usually read translations for events but i think i might at least find a summary or something, this time. there's just something about a deceptively charming ringleader with a habit of luring people into his pocket-reality fantasy land that feels like it would go really well with what i do here.

I thought that it was stupid that Brandon Sanderson had the narrator of Tress of the Emerald Sea call all the unnamed sailors "Dougs" when he could have just called them, you know, sailors. But then I started using the term. Turns out having a word for "yes, we know that realistically all these individuals have unique identities and personalities, but they're not the focus of this story so we're going to treat them as faceless background characters" is surprisingly useful.

For unpopular opinions I feel mean because I’m sure this works in some contexts and I get why people want to include it. But. I just don’t see L being the one to teach Light about things like restorative/social justice and acab if we are talking canon. He’s fine with the death penalty, illegal imprisonment/torture tactics, letting people die for evidence, ect. Sure he’s better than Light but that’s not saying a lot. Maybe I just feel that way because I have more fun if characters are mutually messed up. If you think I’m wrong though I’d be curious to hear why.

I agree with you on this! I feel like L deliberately almost lets people know he's a pretty amoral person whenever it comes up, and doesn't have a lot of grand ideals or opinions about the way things are or should be run differently most times for these matters in canon. I don't think he is entirely nihilistic or evil or anything, but he's mostly concerned with proving himself correct and winning at challenges rather than being some sort of morally superior hero or something. His lack of concern over appearing to be a hypocrite or a bad person is a huge characterization difference between him and Light, too. I feel like people enjoy putting him in that position in fics and whatnot because it can make for some interesting interactions with Light, but I also think it's assigning him a different sort of role and personality than he actually really had in the original story, basically. I feel like the deeper/more theoretical or philisophical aspects of these things are something that Near might be more inclined to think about and talk about with Light than L would, actually.

Going back to revisit stories you haven't read in years is such a wild ride, you never know what you're in for. The gamut runs from "whoah this is terribly racist/ableist/misogynist" to "this is a much richer and more transcendent experience than I remember" to "yes I loathed this the first time I read it as an immature twerp and while I can see now that Valid Decisions Were Made...I STILL DON'T LIKE IT AND NOBODY CAN MAKE ME WOOOOOOOO"

One day I'm literally gonna snap and make a whole post addressing why what's wrong bc I'm tired of the inaccuracy and tired of ppl not understanding the Point TM of IDW and its version of the Matrix/Primacy and even more tired of people putting down Optimus in favor of Rodimus by essentially arguing that being unworthy means you deserve to be punished/put in pain bc you just weren't good enough to hold the Symbol of Ultimate Authority

“people are inherently selfish, government is necessary bc everyone would hurt each other without enforcement of rules” my local library has no late fee. sure, maybe some asshole who has been so deeply brainwashed by capitalism that they are convinced that ultimate success is material/monetary gain that comes at minimal cost to themself may steal a book every once in a while. this hypothetical asshole is not a representative of human nature, but a product of the society they live in. This asshole would not exist in an anarchist society. And then there’s the majority of the people who visit the library and know that stealing from a public library is an awful thing to do because libraries are sacred spaces and provide crucial resources. the majority of us who are not so far gone as to never even consider the community and to prioritize self gain above all else are who should be used as a more accurate representation of humanity. And sure maybe there’s another person who knows that stealing from libraries is bad and wouldn’t so in most circumstances, but maybe for whatever they really really desperately need a book permanently and can’t obtain it through other means, and so they steal. Because this is not to say that people aren’t inherently selfish, this person is a perfectly valid representation of human nature as well. It’s just that humans are also inherently communal and compassionate. We just live in a society where selfishness and individualistic drive is encouraged, praised, and necessary, while collectivity and striving for the common good is frowned upon and a burden, and efforts rarely have lasting tangible results. So with the question of the necessity of government or the potential for any economic system beyond capitalism, it is easy to say that nothing else would work due to the inherent selfishness of humans when that is what we have been taught and what we observe. And in situations of suddenly entering periods of anarchy, of course there was violence and theft. Of course after generations of viewing the accumulation of wealth and material goods as the ultimate goal, and being met with the shock of it all being within reach with no more regulation of what you can or can’t have, the people failed at self regulation and acted brashly. These instances can’t serve as examples of life under anarchy because they happened suddenly, under already strenuous and desperate circumstances. Such a system, or lack thereof, would have to be implemented gently, changing peoples mindsets alongside it.
