Composure (no longer)

Porter Solaire takes pride in his ability to maintain his composure. It's one of the biggest reasons he's been allowed into Williams inner circle. He'll do almost anything without question or complaint. He didn't have anything weighing him down, no strings, no connections keeping him in one place, and no reason to want to stay.

Porter Solaire takes pride in his ability to maintain his composure. He didn't anticipate a human being the one to chip away at that composure. He was truly expecting a one night stand to be the only thing that came of that night. That look in their eyes though...the subtle anxiety growing in their scent even after the events of the evening. Something told him they weren't someone to fool around casually often, if ever. So he asked if they wanted to remember. If they wanted more than just a blissfully hazy evening that faded from their mind over time. He needed to know more about them. Be it curiosity or some subconscious need for a connection after so long alone, he wanted to know more.

Porter took pride in his ability to stay composed, but he was starting to fray at the edges. His death day had passed recently, marking twenty years undead. He was trying to stay calm so that William wouldn't doubt him, but William didn't seem to care; or to even bother noticing the way his hair was falling out of place. The way his suit was a little more wrinkled than he usually kept it. The way his eyes were sunken with exaughstion and hunger. He was just sent on his way, loyalty expected from him in the same way a dog is expected to follow when its owner calls.

Porter Solaire was proud of his composure, but he was upset. He was upset and they wanted to see him. So he fixed himself up as well as he could and put on his best smile for them. What he forgot to factor in though, was that they're an observant human. They pick up on small things almost annoyingly well, and they were pressing. He knew they meant well but he was angry that they were trying to push past the boundaries he set, however tersly. They weren't listening, and he wasn't either. They were both worked up and he needed to get out before he did worse damage than he'd already had. Because that look in their eyes broke his heart, and the fact that he caused it made him feel empty. They both needed time to sort out their feelings. So he left, the door swinging in his wake.

Porter wasn't composed. He hadn't fed in weeks, to distraught to even think about it. He'd made a mistake. He lashed out at the wrong person. He knew they didn't mean what they'd said, they were reacting in the moment just like he was, but that was still no excuse. He was cruel. He knew exactly what to say to dig the knife in and he did; but not just to them. He felt like a cavern was opening in his chest the longer he left things unspoken between them. But what could he say to make it better? He certainly wouldn't blame them if they wanted to be left alone. They were an actual informed unempowered now, so they could ask that of him knowing the risks, and he wouldn't blame them for it.

Porter Solaire becoming distraught enough William did notice and only barely showed his concern. Limiting the support offered to coaxing him into having a few blood bags. Him finally dragging himself to their door, head hung low, clothes damp from the rain he'd run through to get to them again. Apologies falling from his lips the second the floor is opened to him, going as far as trying to obsolve them of the guilt they felt over their biting words. Asking for a second chance at a real relationship, coming from a place of mutual understanding about what they want from eachother. A flicker of hope in his eyes as he watched them. Collapsing into their arms when they pulled him in, a breath rattling his chest as he clings to them. A tear or two sliding down his cheeks, though neither of them mentioned it.

Porter is a composed man. He knows how dangerous emotions can be in his line of work, and he rarely affords himself an opportunity to feel openly. Until he's with them. They could bring him to his knees with nothing but a look, and he would turn the world to ash if they wished him to. Porter doesn't need composure with them.

He's just Porter.
