I was never a big fan of canon. Of course I love the series, but I i was more drawn to the Fanfictions. The fanfiction writers were really talented and I loved ─ still do ─ reading about my favorite characters. I love seeing art concepts with them and how they would have developed if they had a actual writer involved in the manga.

Therefore, it really gets me every single time, when a someone comes down a fan's comment section, of a fanfic, headcanon or a art, and starts yapping about how these characters wouldn't do that because in canon they-

Has everyone lost their minds these past 5 years? The fandom never used to be like this. We were divided, but there was a line we didn't cross. We had our corners, our sub-fandoms and we felt safe there.

Might be controversial but I've got to say this.

So we all know that the soukoku fanbase has a toxic side right? Right.

It was very talked abt how a big part of skk shippers were toxic and blah blah blah. How you would say you liked a ship nd they would come at you, right?

Well, I just want to say that ppl who STILL say this are dumbasses, honestly.

First, to prove my point, I just wanna say that EVERY fanbase has a toxic side, there's no way to deny it, there's always that one mf that ruins the harmony in a fandom and has to be a pain in the balls.

Now, ik that a big part of the skk shippers WERE toxic af, more than the average of toxicness in a fandom, not going to deny it.

BUT THAT WAS BEFORE BRO. I remember that in 2020/2021 it was FULL of toxic skk shippers. You litterally could not like any other dazai or chuuya ship w/o being attacked for it by a cray cray skk shipper.

Because of that, the skk fanbase has a really bad fame, and it's known for being 1- very fucking passionate abt a fictional relationship, and 2- very fucking toxic about said fictional relationship.

In 2022, the toxicness was becoming less. Of course the toxic shippers were still in the shadows ready to attack, but they were less than b4. Now why were they less? Bc ppl actually fucking complained abt it and stopped acting like the skk fanbase was a normal one.

In early 2023, other dazai ships begun to have more popularity, and it stopped being only dazai and chuuya. This was also the era when ppl actually started to understand dazai's character a little better than before and stopped being blind ass mfs. Thanks to this, a LOT of skk toxic shippers disappeared or matured to realize that ppl have different fucking opinions.

Of course the fanbase still had quite a variety of toxic shippers inside of it, but they started to eradicate fast.

Now we're heading to the end of 2023 and I had not ONCE in 5 whole months seen a toxic skk shipper ever again. It's like they rlly disappeared. And I gotta say, that there's obviously still a lot of toxic shippers out there, ik that, but I'm still really proud bro.

Like, it's so nice how an entire fanbase maturated that much in such a short span of time, the mha fandom could never.

Anyways, having said this, I just want to sincerely say, WHY THE FUCK DO PPL STILL SAY "oh i hate skk bc of the shippers" LIKE WHAT.

I've never liked when people complain about 'new fans' in Fandoms and how they're 'ruining the fandom' or whatever, but I will say the weirdest thing to come out the 2023 South Park fandom is treating kyman shippers like they're delusional and disgusting. Sure there's been controversy with the ship (obviously), but it's not even a pro-ship and it's been around for years???

Kyman has always been one of my most hated ships but I've never bothered the shippers because there's nothing actually wrong with them shipping it. They're not related, there's not a pedophilic age gap, and believe it or not there actually isn't an unbalanced power dynamic. Sure its not exactly wholesome and I can get why people think it doesn't make sense, but for crying out loud it's shipping it doesn't have to! And if Kyman shippers are saying they see stuff in canon then maybe TO THEM there is, and if there isn't anything in canon that you see then that's fine but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy the show and characters how they want.

I don't know if this makes a lot of sense, I'm not good at writing paragraphs but I just needed to say this cause I've been in this fandom for a few years now and I'm ngl it seems like purity culture is getting worse. I think the extremely aggressive kyman hate is a symptom of growing poor media literacy and the larger "purity culture" trend that's been present online for a while now. It's very reminiscent of American Evangelicalism or Puritanism, where members of the church have to follow a very specific set of rules for behaving and thinking and if you deviate from those rules in the slightest, you're shot down immediately by the community and shamed for being sinful and blasphemous, all to keep you on the "righteous path" and avoid burning in hell for eternity. This is why so many puritanical christians in the US hate themselves for doing what most of the world sees as normal behavior, and simultaneously force that self-hating worldview onto others to "save" them. (For example see this video by FD Signifier on youtube explaining how hardcore religious ppl/conservatives are doomed to be bad in bed because they see sex as "evil" when in reality it's a normal part of human behavior 😬 It's long but very good).

Though, it's important to note that ppl who think this way may not even be christian themselves, but the behavior is so pervasive in american culture that you absorb it even if you're not a puritanical christian. (for example, to quote Ian Danskin, athiests may think "I don't believe in god, but the god I don't believe in is Jehovah). Tons of the first generation of white USAmericans were exiled British puritans who were kicked out of their home country for essentially being self-righteous assholes and trying to force their shit worldview on everyone else lmao. And I think because so many online spaces are so USAmerican-centric, people from all over the world have started adopting that purity culture as well.

Now, South Park is extremely popular (duh). It's been around for decades so it has a ton of fans both old and new. Unfortunately a lot of new fans, especially young people, follow the show for very different reasons than the average normie/not-terminally-online viewer does. They take the characters out of their original context, use them like dolls to make their own stories and fan content, and ignore all the other blatantly controversial shit that's been going on in the show since day 1 (which is why so many exclusively make blasé creek fanworks imo). They want to keep their thoughts "pure" and only engage with content that's approved by the puritanical online community

It's extremely fitting but also sad that Cartman is the scapegoat for everything wrong with South Park, both in the show and in the real world. Either ppl don't want to acknowledge he exists, or ppl latch onto him and project all of that puritanical hatred toward him or anyone that likes his character. Hell, even I'M guilty of this kind of thinking before I watched the show and understood Cartman's character better.

Kyman in particular is a target BECAUSE it involves Cartman, but also because people boil it down to shipping a nazi with a jew which, at the surface level, seems horrible! But if you've ever actually WATCHED the goddamn show, you know that is an extremely reductive and inaccurate interpretation of their characters. It's horribly poor media literacy. These ppl CANNOT seem to comprehend that you can enjoy watching a character who's a "bad person" without condoning their actions, and that enjoying the shipping dynamic of such characters DOES NOT make you a bad person by proxy.

A huge role of fiction as media is to explore ideas that may be harmful in the real world in a safe way because... *gasp* it's imaginary!! It makes you think and experience emotions you may not have the opportunity for otherwise! However, in the eyes of puritans, the fact you're even thinking about something like that makes you a sinner. It's a thought crime, which is why they consider us mentally "sick" for shipping kyman. So, they send hate at the drop of a hat and publicly vilify kyman shippers to reinforce that behavior with each other, all to say "Hey look at me!!! I'm a Good Person! see how much of a Good Person I am??? I'm gonna go to HEAVEN, and YOU'RE going to HELL". Like I said before, it's not that they necessarily believe in heaven or hell, but that's the general root of the behavior. It's performative puritan dog-piling. Also, because they haven't even fucking watched the whole show, they conveniently ignore all the other horrible shit the show portrays because random kyman shippers online are easy targets while Matt & Trey are gajillionaires who are essentially un-cancellable for things they do on the show at this point because, to quote Trey: For anyone to go up and go "Did you see this thing on South Park? I think my biggest hc rn - and it's kind of controversial bc ik ppl have different opinions on it - is that deku is just flat out gay. like that's his sexuality, he only likes men. I used to hc him as bi and I campaigned pretty hard for it, and regarding fandom ships I still don't mind shipping him with girls. (tbh with fandom ships, I kind of just disregard a character's sexuality hc entirely bc I'm a multishipper who thinks crack ships are fucking great.)

they are both bad at verbalizing their feelings. dk is overall horrible with emotions that pertain to himself so he just doesn't dwell on his very obvious crush on bkg. he just thinks that it's normal to be obsessed with another man. like lol hes been doing it since he was a baby. it's not anything more. he is NOT gay. straight men can appreciate everything about another man and more! just bestie things! and bkg has accepted in his heart that he is gay for dk but u are NOT going to hear him say it. sorry but that man does not know how to even start a convo about this. he'd probably want to, but knows he'd fuck it up and dk would miss the point. he'd probably just tell dk to fight him and then make out somewhere down the line bc it's easier and less embarrassing to him. little does he know, HE'S embarrassing and I hate him.

so u know the whole "bkg is an early bird and dk is a night owl" hc? and how it's technically canonically wrong? yeah. I'm obsessed with how wrong it is. bkg going to bed early and waking up late is so real of him. he just really fucking loves to sleep, and dk is the exact opposite. man goes to bed late and wakes up at 5 in the morning. he gets like 3 hours of sleep maximum and he's functioning perfectly. god I wish I were him

I think dk can cook ok - fine enough to sustain himself - but bake REALLY WELL. bkg can cook bc he's "a natural" who can easily figure out exactly how to cook and spice foods. he doesnt need to follow a recipe to a T, he can just figure it out himself. dk can bake bc I'd imagine baking, with their meticulous recipe requirements, are easier to comprehend for him. he takes a shitton of notes on the daily, u can't tell me he'll eagerly read and jot down shit so his pastries turn out well. he'd prefer following step by step than winging it. does this make sense. words are hard

I always like drawing bkdk pretty close in height. ik lots of bkdks like a height difference but I prefer when rivals are pretty equal, and that includes how tall they are

dk's hands are coarser than bkg's, except around the palms, where bkg canonically has thick skin (so I'd assume there's some callouses there)

I like to think that bkg is good at basically anything, considering how he's a perfectionist. give him something to do and one week to do it, and he'll have a new skill under his belt. but there's a few things he can't do that trip him up so bad and make him so angry. like to me he definitely doesn't know how to whistle or roll his Rs. he just physically cannot. they're such pointless abilities but he hates how he can't do them. especially bc dk can definitely do both

dk keeps calling bkg "kacchan" bc it reminds him of a simpler time :') it makes him feel more connected to bkg than he initially is, and tacitly tells the class that he knows bkg best. also bc bkg never told him to stop so like ... why should he stop now. lol. and ALSO bc he's waiting to see how far he can go before bkg snaps. little does he know, bkg never snaps about "kacchan" bc that's dk's name for him. it reminds him that dk is always there, always calling out for him. and recently, it's a reassurance that he's still here, against all odds

Yeah I mean not to get into like fandom lolitics but people need to understand that "shipping" doesn't always mean "I want these two to be in a respectful relationship where they care for each other and make love" djaglksd like I am very much someone who wants to explore character dynamics and pick them apart and see what makes them tick and maybe they have some nasty disrespectful sex too.

About Max pairings. (ANTI MAXIEL!)Controversial opinion but I hate Maxiel shippers bc most of them just use Max as character which they find appealing with D*aniel. They barely like and happy for Max outside of headcanon they created on their head. I know most of shippers always have a fav out of two on pairings but they also do entitled most of the times as well! The thing is some people seriously believe these ships are real. They aren't. So, there's actually no reason or rhyme in trying to compare them and declare one ship as the real and the other ship as the fake one.

That being said, if people are talking about who is Max's bestie and who he actually has the best relationship with, that guy is Lando. Max called him his best friend even when Daniel was still working for RedBull/about to take DeVries' seat. So, that must mean something even to the most delusional "Max can only be happy/his best self when Daniel is around" people.

Max and Danny are certainly very good friends, they affected each other's lives greatly. But acting like Daniel actually takes the whole Credit of Max growing up and flourish as a person is both ridiculous and shows how insignificant these people see Max as.

I don't know what kind of psychological self reflection/mirroring is going on in those people's head, but I wish their "tool" wasn't Max for them to reach the fulfillment they get from the fantasy world that they have made themselves believe in and harass others over it.

my man, my man i LOVE this ask! 🐝 saw it earlier but i waited to be at home and at my computer because i want to make a lil speech. sufjan is my so mother, he is probably my goat in music. i worship him and everything he shares with the world. that being said, it's so so difficult to choose 5 of his songs. but for you, nai, i'm gonna try

1. should have known better: this song is important to me in a very personal degree. i hope you don't mind me for over sharing a little bit. i have a lot of problems with my mom. she has a particular mental disorder that almost destroys mine (i have two). we barely interact because we are toxic and harmful towards each other. i do love her, she is my mom, but still it's always better to be away. sufjan's mother had the same disorder my mom has and, unfortunately, things didn't end well to her. he then wrote this song (and tons of others, the entire "carrie & lowell" tbh) to deal with his grief. when he sings "my brother had a daughter, the beauty that she brings, illumination" reminds me of the time my youngest nephew were born and we were able to have a small period of peace <3

also the "i should have known better nothing can be changed. the past is still the past, the bridge to nowhere" always speaks directly to my soul.

2. to be alone with you - this song is important to me because i used it for a fic i wrote years ago for a particular ship of mine. i actually associate it with them to this day 😭 (to give a hint, they're on my header) and it's always on my playlists, a huge part of my personality as well as the ship itself. massive brainrot if you ask me. also, i adore the instrumentality of this song, it is so... warm and comforting despite of its controversial lyrics.

3. john my beloved - is it gay or about jesus? who knows, maybe not even sufjan since he refuses to give us an answer. this song gives me the feeling that i'm "interrupting something"? it is like sufjan wrote it but didn't mean to share. it is so intimate and the whispering sound of his voice in this... stawp! perfection. was jesus in love with john? was judas a third wheel? why did jesus treat john different from the others to the point of calling him the "beloved disciple"?

4. reach out - "all the light came in to fulminate my mind" this is straight up poetry and something that i would wrote for sure. this man has the ability of sing what i would like to say.

5. city roses - "i used to be young and bold but now i'm afraid, i'm getting so old" couldn't describe me better. the entirety of these lyrics is so familiar to me. sufjan get outta my brain!
