I’ve been doing a bit of a csi watch lately and i’ve just finished blood drops. It really is such a close parallel to sara’s own past. I think at the time, they perhaps didnt know quite what was going on with sara’s past or maybe hadn’t narrowed down details - i don’t know writer decisions! But watching back, i think its a shame that this ep was done so early because itcould have provided such a fantastic thing for sara once her background was more well established - or perhaps, as the gateway for her bg to be told. Either could have worked well. Not that i want to see her suffer more, but from a storytelling pov i think it could have been interesting for this ep to play out in a later season and really affect sara, have her experience flashbacks or panic and back out of the scene. Basically for it to be clear that something about this scene is really getting to her. It could be we already know as the details of her situation have already been said, so we can draw an obvious connection, or that we don’t and upon asking why she’s so affected, she explains. Either way it also would have been prime gsr material, as gil could comfort her. It also might have been a good oppertunity for someone other than gil to do so, perhaps catherine or greg, since most of sara’s show of /healing of trauma is gil related. It would have been nice to see support (knowing support) come from somewhere else.

Bit of a ramble, sorry! Hope it made sense aaaa! Suppose i was just wondering if you felt the same in that the episode was so perfect that it might have been better used further down the line, rather than at the start of season 1? <3

i can definitely see where you’re coming from and think that experimenting with the premises you put forward in your ask—i.e., moving the events of the episode back in the timeline and/or using them as an inroad to explore sara’s trauma in more detail—could be really fun in a fic setting.

that said, in canon, i'm pretty okay with episode 01x07 “blood drops” occurring both when and how it does.

i don’t consider it a wasted opportunity.

so.

every story has to start somewhere, and, the way i see things, episode 01x07 “blood drops” provides the right start to sara’s trauma arc.

to me, the point of that episode (sara-wise) is to introduce the sense that there is something going on with her beneath the surface but not to fully elucidate what that something is as of yet.

to that point in s1, the sara we’ve seen has been ambitious about her cases and somewhat brusque with her new colleagues, with the exception of grissom, whom she softens around. while she hasn’t been dispassionate by any means and has even at times shown some emotional vulnerability—like in episode 01x03 “crate n’ burial,” when finding the “victim” buried alive causes her to despair the cruelty of people—there hasn’t, until now, been any sense that her reactions have been anything more than just the normal kinds of beats for a compassionate, justice-minded investigator.

episode 01x07 “blood drops” is where we see that assumption challenged.

a first crack in the armor.

it is the initial leg in a narrative that is meant to be a marathon, not a sprint, and it succeeds in its objective of kicking off that distance race, showing that what is happening to brenda clearly strikes a personal chord with sara, provoking an emotional response beyond even what the tragedy of the case might be expected to elicit from her, though not explaining wherefore, leaving that explanation off to be expounded on later, in subsequent episodes and seasons.

i think the episode does its job when you watch it through the first time: it makes you (along with grissom) go, “what’s going on here? what's driving sara's behavior?”

but then the real beauty of the thing is when you rewatch it again after having seen episode 05x13 “nesting dolls,” and you can see, in retrospect, all of those parallels and connections, the way the one story informs the other.

imo, the episode isn’t any less significant to sara’s arc or any less revealing of her because it happens early on in the timeline. the parallel isn’t less effective because it works reaching backward from episode 05x13 “nesting dolls” to episode 01x07 “blood drops” as opposed to going in the other direction.

it still exists. it's still recognizable. it still informs our understanding of sara’s story.

the necessary information is all there; it’s just sublimated.

like a fossil buried beneath the surface of the earth, with only just one tiny fragment of bone sticking out, the shape and size of what’s there will become more apparent upon further excavation.   

while the writers didn’t know sara's full story at that point—according to ann donahue and josh berman, they first started to piece together what would eventually become sara’s canonical backstory circa the writing of episode 01x10 “sex, lies, & larvae”—they did know enough to show that her reaction to the case (and, specifically, to brenda) wasn’t just the normal compassion of an investigator but rather something more deeply personal, pressing up against some very raw nerves for her. they also knew enough to make grissom her touchpoint—the character who is on the receiving end of her belligerent, aloof weirdness at the crime scene and who most noticeably reacts to her uncomfortable jokes at the team meeting.

and in doing so, they set a precedent, laying the foundations for both sara’s character and the gsr relationship.

though neither grissom as a character in the story nor we as the audience outside of it yet realize as much at the time when the events of episode 01x07 "blood drops" are taking place, with repeated exposure, both he and we come to recognize that that abrasiveness in sara, that in-your-faceness, that poke-the-bear behavior, is actually what a trauma response looks like from her.

we’ll see it time and time again with her in subsequent episodes such as 01x10 “sex, lies, & larvae,” 01x16 “too tough to die,” 01x23 “the strip strangler,” 03x14 “one hit wonder,” 04x03 “homebodies,” and 04x23 “bloodlines,” until finally we get to its most blatant example, episode 05x13 “nesting dolls,” which serves as the climax to the storyline—and the point at which grissom has finally accumulated enough evidence to draw a conclusion about sara and approach her with it, showing up on her doorstep to say, "here's what i know, now please tell me the rest. i promise i'll be gentle with it."

by then, that moment of revelation is a thoroughly earned one, both for sara as an individual character—because after so long spent desperately trying to keep this huge, painful secret, to the point of alienating everyone she cares about from her, she is finally at a place where she just can’t anymore; she doesn’t want to; she needs to give voice to those memories and name the terrible thing; to confide in someone—and for grissom and sara as a couple—because for all of his many missteps over the years, something grissom has always done right is that he has consistently shown up for sara, proving to her through his patience, persistence, and refusal to allow her to push him away that he cares about her unconditionally and that he wants to be there for her, come what may.

the fact that episode 05x13 “nesting dolls” brings not only that moment of catharsis for sara but also paves the way for grissom and sara’s romantic relationship in vegas is so narratively satisfying; a culmination of so many plot threads, finally woven together.

and the way i see things, we might not have gotten to the moment of sara tearfully telling the story of her family tragedy to grissom as he sits across from her on her living room sofa in 2005 had he not first witnessed her acting ~off~ about the child survivor of a domestic homicide case back in 2000, you know?

episode 01x07 “blood drops” was that first domino to topple over.

and as for the issue of the sara never letting more people than just grissom in on her trauma of her own volition, honestly? i don’t necessarily see that part of the story needing to change, either.

we can discuss the healthiness or unhealthiness of sara’s decision to only ever (of her own volition) confide in just one person about her trauma elsewise, but at the end of the day it’s true to her character that she would never choose to open up about her childhood to her wider circle of friends.

given her private nature, her deep-seated fears of rejection, the way she trusts, what intimacy really means for her, how she wants to portray herself in public, how close to the surface her emotions run, how deep the pain of her trauma really is, how she attempts to cope, what her aspirations are for herself, etc., etc., that behavior on her part just tracks.

i likewise don't regret the fact we never get any flashbacks to sara's childhood (barring the audio ones in episode 05x13 "nesting dolls") or see her having the "classic tv panic attack" because i think her trauma is clearly articulated as is; what is implied is implied well enough.

i actually appreciate that her trauma responses are different (and even less straightforwardly "sympathetic") than the ones more frequently portrayed in media, as not all ptsd looks the same and some responses are quieter and harder to clock—more on the level of changes to the demeanor, isolation from others, engaging in risk-taking behaviors, etc.

so.

like i said up front: i could imagine some really interesting fics that might involve moving the events of episode 01x07 “blood drops” to occur later on sara’s timeline, using them either to directly precipitate her first confession regarding her past or to follow up on it (a la episode 05x21 “committed” in canon). i can likewise imagine some really interesting fics that made the episode more sara and/or gsr-centric and/or where other characters than grissom became involved in responding to sara’s behavior. there could be lots of cool storytelling avenues to explore along those lines.

@bartramcat used to wish we could have gotten an episode 01x07 "blood drops" callback featuring a teenage or young adult brenda collins in the later seasons of the show, maybe in place of the storyline we got in episode 15x12 "dead woods," and i can see how that option could be a very intriguing one to fic, as well.

but ultimately i'm glad to have the episode as is in canon.

of all of the complaints i have about writing decisions on csi, the way sara’s s1-s5 trauma arc plays out isn’t generally one of them. i think both its pacing and the way sara is characterized as behaving throughout works. ditto for the gsr aspect.

your mileage may—and from the sounds of things, probably does—vary, but, personally, i'm satisfied leaving episode 01x07 “blood drops” as is.

holy moly xherry7816 you've reached 50 likes !!!! ive been working on some gi designs for the ninja but ive been struggling to show off their individuality while still looking like their gi but i havent actually looked up reference of gi so in pretty sure that should be the first step.

ok so the au (still unnamed) taking place in a slightly canon divergent season 5 MORRO is currently after the realm crystal in his attempts to bring the PREEMINENT (?) to NINJAGO and like destroy it or whatever, solid stuff. except whats different here is that MORRO does not go and posses LLOYD as his first step because he'd struggle more as a human than if he were a ghost so he and his ghoul gang decide to get the hard stuff out the way, the ninja chasing them to put a stop to him obviously. also in this au NYA is not told by WU that she is the water ninja, instead she receives her awakening when defending one of the team from a ghost and then hes like omg :0 !#!%#!$#??

the au starts off with the mission to retrieve the realm crystal on time (before MORRO) because even if he beats them to everythinf else MORRO cant do anything without the crystal. unfortunately for them !!! MORRO is already a few steps ahead and when they reach the resting place of the FSM they find the ghost, crystal in hand. boom boom battle !! and theyre all fighting anf there are ghosts everywhere (NYA is not here bc remember KAI isnt supposed to know hes the water ninja yet) and MORRO is very clearly goig after LLOYD. wait, ok wait i need to type up my thinking process rn or else it wont make sense when i read everything back bc isnt only a spinjulistu master able to find the tomb,,,,, ermmm OK LLOYD possesion- no i cant do that to him. its an au whatever, so yeah MORRO'S in there crystal in hand going after greenie and KAI kicks in yk the brother stuff so theyr fighting anf stuff and like idk MORRO knocks KAI off his feet anf starts heading towards LLOYD again so as a last ditch effort KAI fires towards MORRO and it hits the crystal aaaa ! even thought i cant possibly imagine the crystal being so weak i can just say the power of love made him stronger bc those tight family bonds (im a sucker 4 found famiky but who isnt these days). and then its kinda like the scene in SONIC PRIME where the prism goes boom !! and theres a shockwave and it looks cool and then u see SONIC traversing through the SHATTERVERSE 4 the first time and then he ends up in NEW YOKE, except its KAI landing in the PRIME EMPIRE CITY with all his friends looking different and jazz. the whole mission is to retrive the realm crystal shards and put them back 2gether so he can get home and finish the fight with MORRO. for the og universe i kinda just imagine time stops so 4 the ninja itd look like KAI disappears for a few moments and then comes right back. as i did mention when i was vaugely describing universe 1 (PRIME EMPIRE divergent i hope im usong that word right btw) KAI doesnt stay long in that universe so just like in SONIC PRIME he will return to some universes, whether on purpose or not, to retrieve the shards

i was wondering if i should write a fanfic bc thats what most people seem 2 do but im not really good with keeping up the motivation to write, i used 2 have a miraculous ninjago crossover on ao3 (literally called miraculous bc im unoriginal) but after like 5 updates i did updates like one every 3 months and then deleted it lol so im probably jist going to let this au die when i get tired of it !!!! tbh i need to rewatch ninjago bc im forgetting all my facts (and a SONIC PRIME rewatch not that i really need to but its very good har har)

in a much-needed return to this blog's roots, and as an antidote to all motorsport- and life-related chaos, i now present to you: the first edition of em's favorite retro rally videos!

general disclaimer/info: these videos mainly come from the group B era of the world rally championship (wrc), which generally speaking was in the '80s. i am only human, so expect a lot of bias toward my personal favorites...which will become very apparent as you read this list hehe. also i'm not even gonna pretend to be an expert on this or anything. a lot of these are literally just based on Vibes

in which my bias toward audi sport, mouton/pons, mikkola, toivonen, and vatanen are put on blast for all to see 🥴 i am not an expert in anything i am just very good at research and a whore for aud—[SNIPED]. for the sake of brevity, i narrowed my favorites down to 5. maybe another time i will share all the rest!

also, a general note about the commentary: sometimes, the commentary around michèle and fabrizia can get... weird. keep in mind, they were the most prominent female team partnership around that time, and the first to nearly clinch a wrc wdc, and to modern ears, the commentators really didn't know how to act around them. personally, it wasn't horrible for me, i just ignored the weirder bits, but i understand if others might find it off-putting. also for the sake of your sanity don't read the comments.

5. Rally of the 1000 Lakes, 1984 | finland

comments: this was definitely a rally for most of audi sport's drivers to forget: bar stig blomqvist, who came quite close to the podium finishers with a 4:14:01 to henri toivonen's 4:12:57! both hannu mikkola and michèle mouton had to retire from the race, which may lead you to wonder: why does this rank among my favorites? well, it's always fun to watch group b rally cars sailing through the air against picturesque scenery, and this video also contains an intriguing (at least for me!) look at the scrutineering process, with drivers at their most casual.

4. Lombard RAC Rally, 1981 | britain

comments: hannu winning by 11 whole minutes even after rolling his car in the middle of the forest is actual legend behavior! anyway this was michèle's first wrc outing in britain, and even though she and fabrizia had to retire, they still did quite well, consistently running high in the leaderboards after the first few stages. and that's considering the fact that michèle had a bad cold for much of the rally and had to ask fabrizia to drive the car to service park for her at one point bc she was so tired. which fabrizia did... with a pencil in her mouth. lot of big names in one video—also, jean todt makes an appearance as a co-driver!

3. Marlboro Safari Rally, 1983 | kenya

comments: ok can i just say how stunning the video presentation is?? the opening sequence is just!!! the shots of the wildlife! the sprinting giraffes! wow! anyway the visual of drivers in deck chairs just tickles me for no reason, and michèle please tell me what you ask for at the hairdresser's and also where you got that orange blouse (this is obviously not just specific to this rally, she always eats and leaves no crumbs). this was michèle's first entry and only finish in kenya (and of course it was a podium mwah). it was also her last wrc entry in the A1 quattro, as she switched to the A2 for the rest of her program in the '83 season. also this is one of my favorite podium pictures ever.

lksdjffnnkd there's almost too much to unpack... fabrizia somehow surviving in high waist jeans in a hot car... michèle's do-it-yourself shorts... this podium picture was the subject of a very frantic video chat conversation between myself and a friend at 2am a few months ago

comments: GOD I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH AAAA! michèle's first podium of '82 being a win? this rally being the one where there's footage of her going shopping with fabrizia afterward? (more on that later) them winning by 13 whole minutes? and that's not even considering THEE most poetic victory ceremony of all time! in fact let me talk about that bc the racing and the win aside, that's why it's so high up on my list! literally poetic cinema! it's night, they're standing on top of the car and floodlit and surrounded by cheering crowds but they may as well be the only ones there in their own little world, laughing at each other and barely even having to look to each other when they're raising their hands—like god! shut up! we get it you're besties 😭

1. Lombard RAC Rally, 1982 | britain

comments: firstly, if you were to ask me about my dream podium, this would be it. hands down, across all series of motorsport, my comfort podium would be hannu, michèle, and henri in any order. (there's such a cute picture of them from this rally on pinterest, standing in order on a staircase. henri is not looking at the camera because he is laughing at something michèle is saying and it's such a Vibe but i cannot find it wah). the battle for second between michèle and henri ran down to literally the last stage, and their times are separated by seconds, which is just wild to me. the context of this rally deserves another post, which i honestly don’t have the energy to make rn, but just take my word for it that it threatens to destroy me if i think about it too hard! anyway this is just such an awesome rally and i’ve watched this video so many times haha

i love this rally so much that i actually had a character in a story i was writing attend the ceremony captured in this picture as a small child and made it a formative moment in her life. no, there is nothing wrong with me.

Fanfiction Journey

My fanfiction reading journey started years ago with reading Loki, BBC Sherlock, and Thranduil fics.

Once I finished both seasons of The Mandalorian around January 2021, I immediately rewatched both seasons. I started Narcos by the end of the month. Then I felt the need... the need to read.

I started this blog around March 2021 because I wanted to keep track of the fics I love to reread!

I truly never gave a thought to writing my own fic until June 4, 2021 when I snapped. I heard the umpteenth song and for the umpteenth time thought about how perfectly it fit a Pedro character and basically told myself, “I’m just gonna have to write this my own damn self.” 😂

Titles are my least favorite thing to have to come up with, ew.

Day 1 (25/07/2021)

Ok so I actually started this yesterday, but decided to create a separate blog from my workout log blog as I want to keep myself accountable and see how well I do with time :)  Today wasn’t great??? Like mentioned I do not count calories, but I do estimate by eye (hence how I know I eat maintenance <3)  I think throughout my posts I’ll highlight the thinking I see as problematic, to see what I need to work on.

I did super well, but uhhh we ran out of healthy food/just had common ingredients and bad decisions were made (panic mode in the mind, must consuuuume aaaaall). 

So we’ve had no food in the house for the past 2 days, so I just whipped up a pizza (a naan bread w tomato sauce, seasoning, a good amount of cheese, tomato, and a shredded chicken thigh on top (1000) and a mint mocha for lunch (250). Drank a can of cider (not a great call, not one I’d really make often, kinda regret it bc it’s not good for my health. Have no idea about calorie content and didn’t wanna look up as I avoid it entirely as part of recovery). 

Today was supposed to be food day (we do grocery shopping every 4-5 days) and ehhh basically everything was sold out. And of course as a family we decided hey, takeaway is a great idea! (not :D)

I thought hmmm, I don’t feel too hungry, but maybe I will once I get around to eating (20 minute walk each way) WRONG, but I thought, eh, it’s bought, means it has to be eaten (WROOOONG THINKING, another big thing is that my whole childhood I was taught to finish what is on my plate). This is directly linked with all-or-nothing thinking.

I told myself I’d eat it in 2 parts, a bit today, and the majority tomorrow as there still would be no proper food (it was extremely oily so I’d estimate 1500). I don’t know where exactly it went wrong, but it did. And that’s okay. What I’m more worried about is that when it comes to anything spicy, soda is a must. And when it comes to soda, I prefer taste of diet (unlike my family). All-or-nothing thinking resulted in me drinking the full 2L. Not ideal :D

I am never getting takeaway again, it is so so very icky and oh my lord I have no idea how I used to live off diet soda and enjoy it??? IT’S SO GROSS I NEVER WANT TO DRINK ANY EVER AGAIN AND I FEEL SO BAD FOR MY INSIDES TRYING TO PROCESS IT AS WE SPEAK AAAA

I think I need to take much better care of my kidneys considering what I’ve subjected them to throughout the years. I’ll likely just stick to water, some smoothies and keep caffeine consumption to a minimum

I also had 4 servings of chocolate (around 600??). I hadn’t had any aero chocolate in years, and the McDonald’s recent Mint McFlurry made me want to revisit it :) I also tried the new caramel Cadbury one (light chocolate squares, super nice). Not the best snack, as sugar messes with my skin but it’s pretty much a once a year sort of experience as I’m not a big fan of chocolate so what the hecc, WORTH

So overall, the kebab was my downfall and I’ll likely never settle for it again. No one will ever again see me with any soda in hand. Both are not worth nutritionally or how my body feels afterwards (awful :D)

Technically I’m around maintenance but I feel so sick and this is exactly why I’ve started this account. I want to eat not only healthier, but also spread the intake across the whole day. Healthy eating is easy, but stopping mid meal/balancing my intake is what I struggle with. Eating the kebab in the span of 8 hours would be ideal, but it was consumed within an hour and I still feel physically sick. 

But hey, I’m doing so so well and recognising what I struggle with. I’m gonna take a proactive approach to shape positive habits when it comes to consumption and come out so much healthier at the end of it <3 <3 <3

and to be honest i was not vibing with the second season at first (probably, for sure..ly bc of what happened to my kings in s1. all these new characters were being introduced, i felt like pure shit just wanted them back. i couldnt properly enjoy it) also the whole.. fantasy thing.... is not my thing... idk... from the start, when i saw the fucking wand i wanted to scream dlkjas i knew it wasnt going to be for me. but i think it got better as it went on, it just didnt captivate me like the plot from s1. i didnt follow it as well? i enjoyed how i could easily pick up the little clues in s1 but tbh i think that just reflects dirk's state cuz we sorta follow his pov... he was v e r y lost during s2 and that rubbed on me!!! i didnt enJOYYYY ONE BITTT SEEING HIMMM SO FUCKING SAD... he was just sad and freaking out and he just needed a friend >:( and todd ugh he pissed me off a lot of the time dlkajskl........... ill never forget him saying dirk deserved to be alone 🚶‍♂️being a dirkette isnt easy.

5. Jujutsu Kaisen

It’s weird that the anime I’ve been talking about the most is so low on the list but that’s mainly because I’m mostly hyperfocused on the manga rn. The arc the anime is in rn is where I got really invested when I was reading the manga and it only got better since then, would probs rank very high in my fav manga list rn. I’m feral for the next season and I would like to know when it’s coming out hehe~

4. My Next Life as a Villainess

This show brought so much happiness in my life when I needed it the most, I just enjoyed it a whole lot and on a few occasions it even made me laugh at loud. Catarina is a fucking dumbass but in a way that makes her lovable instead of frustrating...or at least lovably frustrating lmao! And I’ve already said my peace on the rest of the cast. The only way it could be better is if it went gay all the way 

3. Skate the infinity 

Can you imagine that I almost didn’t watch this anime? The only reason I started it because I looked at the op cuz ‘skating anime is bound to have some good tunes’ (it has), but truth to be told from the amount of it I see on my dash I would have probably got into it anime. I love these characters (except Adam but Adam falls straight into the sort of villain trope I dislike the most so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) But honestly has some of the best and most lovable characters these season and Reki’s arc is goddamn heartbreaking to watch. This is the kind of show with a beating heart you know, I love it.

2. Dr Stone

Funny how I watched this after you complained endlessly about it and then ended up enjoying it so much. I’m not much of a science buff and there are times I just zone out when Senku is explaining shit but as I’ve said countless times before it’s the characters that make or break the show for me and I love every single one. I just like how full of passion it is and how obvious it is that this is the author just nerding out. Senku is very interesting protagonist because he wasn’t supposed to be the protagonist at all and it’s great how passionate he can be while completely avoiding the passionate shonen youth trope. Also I ranted to you constantly about how nice is to see a character with who has such a prominent way of showing love exclusively by his actions. Also the emotional moments hit so hard despite it being a nerd out show. Also just Gen, as a concept. This show feels like someone is constantly ranting to you about the thing they are passionate about and as someone who loves to listen to ppl rant about things they love, it’s just great. Also I get to share in with something you really like and that always makes it better <3

1. Talentless Nana

Didn’t we calculate that I finished the entire anime and then the manga start to finish in two days flat?

Yeah I think that says it all.

Nana turned out to be such a niche show and it really deserves more. I’ve seen people compare it to Death Note but it’s really not like Death Note when you get past the cat and mouse game that isn’t even it’s core more like a bait to lure you in to the real thing. Like this isn’t a show that is going to vow you with it’s mindgames but I do like it better than Death Note just because it has infinently more interesting and lovable characters and Nana could kick Lights ass any day. Nana has bits of BNHA in it and bits of Death Note in it but what it’s really about for me is abuse and how it can break and remold a person and how hard it’s to get out of it and start acting against what you’ve been conditioned to believe is the right thing, no matter how much you want to do better. That message is more thoroughly explored in the manga though and since it ended up so niche I doubt we’ll be getting second season ;-; But damn don’t I love Nana’s arc. She makes for an amazing protagonist that you just love despite everything she does and then you start to understand her better and how she ended up like this and you just really want to root for her to figure out what happened. And when she does it’s not an instant switch, she doesn’t immediately go ‘oh ok i know what teh good is now ill do that’. It’s a struggle to go against what she’s been taught to believe, it’s a struggle to turn her back on the only safe person she knows in her life (who is very very abusive but abusers can still be safe places that’s why abuse is so hard to leave) and try to join in with people who are very likely to refuse her just because she knows that’s the right thing to do. Watching Nana go from mindless drone to a girl struggling to leave an abusive situation and make up for all the wrongs she did is just amazing. One day I wanna go through the manga and detailly document Nana’s journey. I hope she finds stability soon my girl ;-; 

This has turned into a Talentless Nana rant but I just love how seriously the story takes the topic of abuse, how much it can impact you, your actions and your view of the world and how hard it is to leave. How much easier it would be for Nana to just stay where she is and ignore everything despite knowing leaving would be the best choice. Recently the manga updated with a chapter on Moe and it showed so well how much abuse can impact and persist even when a child is in a safe situation and ;-; MOE I’M SORRY I SAID I DONT LIKE YOU AAAA. 

Anyway if anyone aside from Peter made it to the end of the list uhhh read Talentless Nana, it’s really good and I would like more please

A list of things my little siblings have done/said after I watched all of Tfa with them:

My little sister thinks Bumblebee should have been able to fly

She also thinks he should've become a ninja bot and is very angry neither of these things happened

My little brother has said that his favorite character was (these are various responses I've gotten): Ratchet Bulkhead Grimlock Bumblebee Optimus and Starscream

He also tells my parents he "Needs All Of The Dinobots" including Non tfa ones.

My little sister grew a huge crush on Prowl and made a tictoc about how she ships Jazz x Prowl but also really wishes she was in jazzs shoes. (Had to take it down though, me and our parents agreed she shouldn't be posting her face on the internet)

The way she showed me said tictoc was by opening the door to my room and running over to me to show me it on her phone. (With so much aggression I thought she was gonna punch me for a moment.)

I told them about "YOU CAN'T KEEP ME IN HERE MEGATRON AAAA" And "I'M STUPID I'M STUPID" And sometimes at random I can hear them shout both qoutes.

We watched the g1 movie and my sister was very insistent that everyone looked blocky and ugly.

She fell in love with wheelie tho, quotes him a ton now and insists she needs a toy of him.

She loves Tfa Jazz a ton as well and laughed at him so so much when he first showed up.

She never did forgive me for Prowls death I still owe her more Prowl stuff according to her. (got her a keychain of him)

My little brother made so so many TF ocs. The one he talks about the most being Flashflood but he has a lot of others.

We now have Tf dnd sessions and my sis mains a version of Wheelie who trained under Prowl and became a ninja bot.

Brother mains Flashflood (and in one of our sessions he almost died and he started crying and I still feel guilty about it poor baby loves his robot oc)

Sister thinks Sentinal is ugly. (And she's right)

She loves Blurrbee and insists that bc in velocity they touched hoods, they kissed and were "technically Gay." Her words not mine (but who am I to say she's wrong)

She showed one of her friends the Tfa cast and they liked Blurr a lot bc of how blue he was and she said she "didn't have the heart to tell her"

I introduced my little brother to Rescue Bots and we watched like the first 12 episodes together and later when I wanted to continue watching it with him I was informed he'd Left Me In The Dust by finishing all of season 1 without me, 💔💔💔💔

And our Final one (unless y'all like these then I got plenty more to share) Me and my siblings bought Devastation and my brother was Hooked. He's become super good at it and constantly gets S ranks on hard mode. He absolutely loves it and I love that. But there's a special feeling u get when your 8 year old brother has aced a difficulty u still struggle on in a game. (It ranges from heartbreak and defeat to Maybe Cain Had A Point)

Thanksgiving was the only time Maggie allowed Zoey to "help" in the kitchen. There was so much to prepare and do that she needed all hands on deck.

David and Emily were off the hook for helping since they had their hands full with Peter. He had started teething recently and was having trouble being soothed. Which, of course, meant that David and Emily were both exhausted. 

Zoey finished getting the table set, while Maggie basted the turkey and Max worked on mashing the potatoes.

"Anything else I can help with Mom?" She asked, looking to make sure she hadn't missed anything.

Maggie glanced up, "No, I think we're good. Why don't you just sit and keep us company?"

"Sure, I can do that," she reached for a chair at the island when she heard Peter begin to cry.

"Why don't I go offer them a break," Zoey left the kitchen, and headed upstairs. She knocked on the door to David's old room. He opened the door looking exhausted and holding a crying Peter.

"Gimme," Zoey said, holding out her hands.

David breathed a sigh of relief as he handed him over. "Here's his teether. He can have some Motrin in about an hour if he's still a mess "

Peter had stopped crying as soon as he was in his Aunt's arms. He was watching her hair as it bounced up and down when she nodded at David.

"Come on, Peter, let's go see what Grandma and Uncle Max are up to," she said cheerfully.

Even in his exhausted state David looked at her oddly, "Something you haven't told us?"

"Huh?" Zoey wrinkled her nose in confusion.

"Uncle Max? I don't see a ring there?" David nodded at her bare left hand.

Zoey turned bright red, "Just a slip of the tongue."

David chuckled, "Relax, Sis. He's practically family, anyway, I'm just teasing you. Actually, I wanted to run something by you. It’s just Emily and I were talking about it, and we were wondering if you and Max would be Peter's godparents." 

"Godparents? As in?"

"More like you get to be his extra special Aunt and Uncle."

"Are you saying that you don't think I'm special enough?" Zoey teased. 

"Yeah yeah, you know what I mean. It also means that Emily and I would name you guys Peter's legal guardians in case something ever happens to us."

"Oh, David," Zoey reached out to grasp his hand. "Of course I will. Though, you should be the one to tell Max. I think it would mean a lot coming from you."

"Of course. Thanks Zo, it's important to us that he's in good hands." 

Zoey leaned in and hugged him as tight as she could while holding Peter.

"Now go on, some of us need to try and nap," David said, waving her off.

"Look who I escaped with!" Zoey laughed as she entered the kitchen, bouncing Peter up and down excitedly.

Maggie grinned, stopping long enough to drop a kiss on her grandson's head.

"Are your toothies bothering you again?” She glanced at his red and tear stained cheeks. "Poor guy. Here, Grandma knows what to do." Maggie reached into the freezer and pulled out a frozen washcloth.

Zoey took it and held it up to Peter. Peter grabbed it, shoving a corner of it into his mouth and began sucking away. 

"Is that better? Grandma’s pretty smart like that," Zoey said, smiling at him.

She walked over to where Max was getting the stuffing ready for the oven.

She smiled as he dropped a kiss on her forehead. "Hey, buddy," he said to Peter. "Hanging out with Auntie Zo? Can't say I blame you, she's pretty cool."

Zoey laughed, "I thought we had already established how not cool we are."

Max grinned, "Ah but Peter doesn't have a concept of cool yet, so anything you do is cool enough for him."

Zoey shook her head. "Peter, your Uncle Max is being ridiculous."

Max whipped his head up and looked at her. She didn't seem to realize what she had just said.

Zoey started humming as she swayed back and forth with Peter. She glanced at Max who was looking at her with something akin to awe on his face.

“Max, honey? Are you okay?”

Max grinned and nodded at her. “I’m fine, babe. Just thinking about something.”

Zoey nodded and turned back to Peter who was starting to fall asleep in her arms. 

Maggie came over and held out her arms for him, “I’ll take him back to David. Max, can you just keep an eye on things?”

“Of course. I won’t let Zoey anywhere near the stove,” he said, tossing a wink her way. Maggie chuckled and left with Peter.

Zoey made a face at him, swatting his hands away when he attempted to placate her with a hug.

“Nope, you’re being mean!” she chastised, turning her back to him.

Max wrapped his arms around her waist, “I’m just teasing you, sweetheart. I love that you’re a terrible cook. It gives me the chance to cook for you.” 

Zoey leaned back against him. “Well, I do love it when you cook for me,” she admitted, begrudgingly.

Max chuckled, he turned her in his arms and gave her a soft kiss.

Max pulled away to check on the food.

Zoey took a seat, enjoying the view of him bending over to open the oven. She let out a small whistle.

Max glanced back at her and shook his head with a grin. 

“What can I say? I enjoy the view,” Zoey cheekily said.

“Mmm I see, you only want me for my body,” he teased.

Zoey watched, entranced as Max began to shake his hips to a nonexistent beat.

He turned around, and catching the direction of her gaze, he tossed a wink at her as he began to sing

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy

Come on, sugar, tell me so 

Zoey couldn't stop the laugh that escaped her as Max pulled her against him, continuing the song.

Come on, honey, tell me so

Max pulled back and looked at her face flushed with laughter. "Sorry, I can't remember how the rest of the song goes," Max said, shrugging.

Zoey started laughing again as she pulled him down to kiss him.

"What's so funny?" Max asked between kisses.

"Nothing, you're just cute," Zoey grinned.

Maggie came back into the kitchen, smiling as she saw the happy couple laughing. She felt a pang in her chest as she wished that Mitch was there to see how happy Zoey was. 

They pulled apart, blushing as they realized Maggie had been watching them.

Maggie waved them off. "Looks like everything is about ready. So, let's get it on the table and we can all eat."

The family, minus Peter who was still sleeping, gathered around the table.There was a slight air of sadness to the meal. It was the first of the big holidays that they would be facing without Mitch. David carved the turkey and they toasted in memory of Mitch.

While they ate, they shared stories and memories of Thanksgivings past.

 Max chuckled as Maggie described the year that Zoey was insistent that they eat only what Snoopy had served in the Peanuts Thanksgiving special.

"She was 5 and so very stubborn," Maggie laughed. "And she stood there telling Mitch that he was wrong, that we didn't need a Turkey for thanksgiving, but instead needed jelly beans,  toast, popcorn, pretzels and ice cream sundaes. And you know how Mitch was, so of course he goes out and braves the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving to get everything on Zoey's list."

Zoey flushed, taking a drink of her wine to cover her embarrassment. 

"Luckily, Mom managed to convince Zoey that we could have regular Thanksgiving for dinner, and Snoopy's Thanksgiving for breakfast instead." David chimed in. "Plus, it kept her out of everyone's hair when the inevitable sugar crash happened. She was a menace in the kitchen from an early age."

Zoey wadded up her napkin and threw it at David, hitting him in the face.

"Hey, ow! Mom!!"

Maggie, Max and Emily all locked eyes and just shook their heads  

They heard a cry come from the baby monitor on the counter.

David went to stand, but Max gestured for him to sit. "I'll get him, you guys are still eating."

David nodded and sat back down.

Max squeezed Zoey's shoulder as he passed her chair.

When he got upstairs, Peter was looking up at him from the crib, a confused expression on his face. 

"Hey big guy, was that a good nap?" Max asked, smiling as he picked him up.

"You almost missed all of dinner, sleepy head!" He teased, tickling Peter's toes to make him smile.

Peter made a "whoooo," noise kicking his feet.

"Who? Well kiddo, that's the question. I'm the man who loves your Auntie Zoey. And though, I don't know that she realized it, but earlier, she called me your Uncle Max." 

Peter grinned at Max, "ahhhhhh," he responded.

"My thoughts exactly," Max agreed. "So, maybe someday soon I can be your actual uncle." He grinned, mentally planning a trip in the future to get his Grandmother's ring resized. 

"But that will be our little secret for now, okay buddy?"

 "Aaaa," Peter responded.

 "Good, I knew you could keep a secret."

Max and Peter made their way into the kitchen. David, Emily and Maggie were all grinning  at him.

Zoey had tears in her eyes as she smiled at him. He cocked his head at her and she shook her head. He handed Peter to Emily, who thanked him. "Did you tell your Uncle Max ‘thank you’, Peter?"

Max looked at her startled. She pointed to the blinking baby monitor.  Max turned red, groaning in embarrassment. "Ohhh, ummm…"

David interrupted him. "That is if you want to be. We were actually hoping that you would agree to be Peter's godfather."

Max looked over at Zoey who smiled at him and nodded.

He swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded at David and Emily, "I'd be honored."

Zoey beamed at him as he sat down. He looked around at the table at the family that had become more dear to him than he could imagine. 

Zoey squeezed his hand affectionately, and he turned to look at her. She leaned her head onto his shoulder and sighed contentedly.

Oh yes, he decided. He needed to get the ring resized very soon.

Snowboarding AU : Falling in the snow | A Warm Cup of Chocolate | (Almost) Frozen Kisses | Snowflakes & Cherry Blossoms | White (Maybe) Weddings | Here Come the Groom(s)

Jisoo wakes up in the morning just before his alarm, sighing as he sees the snow falling gently outside

Yesterday’s lesson had gone considerably better, although Jisoo still ended up crashing into multiple piles of snow, netting and well… Jeonghan (yes, again)

It wasn’t his fault, okay?! The girls wanted to go on a ski lift on their own, so Jisoo and Jeonghan were seated behind, together. Eunwoo had struggled a little getting off the lift, shrieking with glee as she whooshed gracefully round the corner

Jisoo on the other hand, panicked. He got off the lift and focused so hard on not crashing, he didn’t realize that he’d cornered Jeonghan into the padded pillar that supported the ski lift

Jeonghan hits the pillar with a muted thud, and Jisoo turns around in another bout of panic, because oh my gOD i juST senT JeongHAn INTO A PILLAR –

He’d obviously crashed right after that, nearly (actually) faceplanting at the feet of his cackling daughters, who made absolutely no move to help him up. 

Despite the incident, Jeonghan had invited him and his daughters for dinner, treating them to some of the freshest grilled trout Jisoo had ever eaten

Jisoo sighs. He doesn’t want to go home. He wants to stay here, cuddled up with his daughters and his new (hopefully mutual) love interest

But he’s also really thankful it’s the last day of their little ski getaway. As much as it makes his girls happy, and as much as he enjoys spending time with Jeonghan, he’s too old to be bad at something like snowboarding

(He’s not really that old he’s just exhausted and embarrassed of all the bruises and teasing he’s gotten in the last three days)

The girls wake up excitedly, but it quickly turns sour when they realize it’s their last day on the slopes. Jisoo wants them to enjoy it, but it’s hard when they’re both throwing a tantrum about not getting to go back out again tomorrow 

Jeonghan, on the other hand, would rather cancel their last snowboarding lesson in favour of just spending the day with Jisoo and his beautiful girls. He wants to be a part of their little family dynamic

It’s an odd feeling. He’s had boyfriends (and girlfriends) before, but he’s never fallen this hard, this fast. It’s… well, terrifying. He’s afraid that his infatuation with Jisoo is just that, and he really doesn’t want it to be

It’s ten minutes from the start of their lesson when they hear a deafening CRACK! and everyone jumps, some shouting in surprise

Jisoo immediately fears the worst, frowning when the girls point excitedly at how the snow is making swirlies in the sky

 He has a hunch that the girls are about to be even more upset than they were this morning (regular snowfall does not make any kind of swirlies in the sky)

True enough, he spots Jeonghan walking towards them, looking unusually serious. The girls are oblivious, faces pressed to the window as they watch the snowstorm create patterns they’ve never seen.

“I’m so sorry Jisoo,” Jeonghan murmurs quietly, glancing forlornly at the twins. “The snowstorm is wrecking havoc outside,” he whispers

Jisoo’s heart sinks into his stomach

They both silently watch the girls marvel at the gradually worsening storm, until all they can see is a sheet white

Nayoung’s the first one to realize something’s wrong, tugging at Jeonghan’s pants quietly. “Ssaem, is it dangerous to go outside?” she asks, bottom lip quivering as the possibility (reality) sets in

Jeonghan takes a deep breath, lifting Nayoung into his lap for a cuddle. Jisoo sits Eunwoo in his lap, and tries to comfort her as they break the news as gently as they can

The girls are inconsolable, and Jisoo feels worse than when that woman walked out of his life

He hates seeing his princesses upset, and hates even more that there’s absolutely nothing he can do about it

Jeonghan, as of late it seems, wipes away the girls’ tears and smiles gently – Angelically, Jisoo thinks, suppressing a fond sigh when his daughters’ wailing is almost immediately reduced to sniffles

“Don’t be too upset, it means you get one extra lesson with ssaem for free!” he beams at the girls, and they blink up at him, confused

Jisoo laughs, resting his hand over Jeonghan’s, warmth bubbling when he curls his fingers around Jisoo’s own

“What Jeonghan is trying to say is, because we can’t snowboard today, it means we can come back another weekend,” he explains, and the twin gasps almost make the awful snowstorm outside worth it

“You can come every weekend if you want,” Jeonghan grins cheekily, and Jisoo glares playfully at the blonde instructor

“Only if you’re willing to take time off to spend with us,” he answers sweetly, too-sweet grin gracing his handsome features, and Jeonghan snorts so hard he nearly chokes

“Anything for you and these princesses,” he agrees, ruffling both girls’ hair, grinning wider when they look at him adoringly

“Besides, now that snowboarding’s out, how bout we play some games? I saw some board games in your room last night,” Jeonghan singongs

(in that moment, Jisoo knew he was royally fucked. It’s impossible to love someone in only three days… right????) 

Jisoo’s pretty much yanked out of his seat as the girls haul ass back to their room, chattering excitedly about beating Hannie samchon (when the hell did he go from ssaem to samchon?!) in Monopoly and UNO

(Jeonghan does lose consistently, but only because he can’t find it in him to win after everything that’s happened)

The girls are tired out by four, curled up in bed with each other, and both men slump onto the sofa, breathing a sigh of relief

“You’re so good with them,” Jisoo murmurs, curling up into Jeonghan’s side. It’s warm, and Jeonghan’s comfortable, and Jisoo’s almost ready for his own little nap

The rest of winter goes like that, with Jisoo driving up to the ski resort and spending the weekend with Jeonghan

The girls are ecstatic to play in the soft, fluffy snow every weekend, even sneaking in some lessons on the slopes

(On those days, Jisoo sits safely in a café, away from the bruises and accidents, sipping his coffee and reading a book)

Jeonghan finishes his season early for the first time since he started working, much to the surprise of everyone literally no one at the ski resort

It was the girls’ last weekend at the resort before school started, and Jeonghan wanted to spend more… private time with Jisoo

They had spent the day making snowangels with the girls, which somehow evolved into an intense snowball fight

After exhausting themselves throwing balls of frozen water at each other, and some much needed hot showers, they’re seated around the table with hot chocolates and fried chicken on the table

It’s peaceful, and Jisoo couldn’t be more content. Jeonghan just fit with their little family, and the thought fills him with a happiness he never thought he’d find again …

“Hey, hannie, wanna come with us to see the cherry blossoms?”

“Fuck yes”

So how about a meh card from Norfolk, Virginia with some serious real shit level consequences attached to it? The UFC heads to Norfolk with a title fight, what feels like an unofficial #1 contender tournament with four featherweights and a bunch of high level filler, DWCS dudes and the return of Tom Breese! It's just a shame that the UFC is not treating this flyweight reboot with a little bit more urgency and fanfare with such a substandard card but at the very least, it's a good thing 125 lbs has a future. For now at least. Let's run through the tape and try to break this bad boy down:

Twelve Precarious Ponderings

1- So is there a back up in mind should Deveison have a rough weight cut? He's a guy who admittedly has cut from lightweight range before. I believe in the fight vs John Moraga he cut close to 20 lbs the week of in order to get down to the flyweight limit. It was so much in fact that the UFC were talking to Deiveson Figueiredo about going up in weight BEFORE the weight class was being considered for consolidation. There's no flyweight on the fight on the cards other than this one so I wonder what the story is here.

2- I don't think it's wrong to suggest that the UFC was really clinging to the idea that Joseph Benavidez was going to win the flyweight title's inaugural tournament back in 2012. They didn't seem prepared for what would happen if Demetrious Johnson won and spent the first few years on the defensive while trying to figure out how to present Mighty Mouse as champion. Benavidez worked his way back up to a secondary title shot and came up short again, this time getting flattened out by Demetrious Johnson. Essentially blocked off, Joseph Benavidez has casually built one of MMA's greatest resumes where he just sort of ran through every prospective #1 contender including current champ Henry Cejudo in a contentious fight back in 2017. Minus a slip up to Sergio Pettis, Benavidez is undefeated in non title fights and owes wins over just about every other qualified contender. This is really the best chance he'll ever have to make good on the belief that emerged ten some odd years ago in the WEC that Benavidez was the next Team Alpha Male legend. Not that it should be a doubt but a title win would make it hard to deny Benavidez as a genuine hall of even by even the most cynical critic. On the other hand, it'd feel just like Benavidez to come up short once again in the biggest title fight ever in the easiest of the challenges (vs Cruz, vs Mighty Mouse).

3- It hasn't been a problem much recently BUT for a good stretch of 2016 to 2018, there were moments where it looked like Benavidez's durability was beginning to slip. He was rocked by both Cejudo and Sergio Pettis as well as buzzed a few times by the likes of John Moraga. To his credit, Joseph Benavidez has only been finished ONCE in his ridiculously long MMA career but he's stepping up big time in terms of power vs Figueiredo who is a damn big time fight finisher at 125 lbs.

4- Is this the big cage or the small cage? One of those greatly figures Figueiredo and one of those probably makes it a wrap that Benavidez wins  by decision.

5- Can Figueiredo fight with any semblance of composure if the fight starts to get away from him? He really struggled with that vs Jussier Formiga once he started to have difficulty vs Formiga and it made it even easier for Formiga to take him down and control him, dipping under wild telegraphed shots for easy work.

6- How pissed will people be if Megan Anderson gets a title shot with a win over Norma Dumont?

7- This card is LOADED with DWCS guys from all three seasons and some are quite good and some not so good. Grant Dawson is clearly the best of the bunch and rounding out his game into becoming a genuine borderline top 15-y featherweight. Brendan Allen is probably the second best guy and he figures to cap out as an Ian Heinish-esque middleweight. The rest are all crapshoot guys like Aalon Cruz (super explosive but flawed), TJ Brown (a pseudo journeyman on a bit of a run prior to DWCS) and guys who are probably at their peaks like Jordan Griffin.

8- Speaking of Brendan Allen, I'm not really sure if this is the right fight for him at this stage in his career. To this point Allen feels like your traditional AAAA fighter. He's wiped out regional competition without much hassle but his two losses were to UFC competition (Eryk Anders, Trevin Giles) and his last fight was the first fight where he beat a real solid opponent in Kevin Holland. Now LFA champs have a pretty good streak of making it in the UFC, especially at higher weights, but there's a chance that Allen's style of having more guts than brains will eventually backfire. Brees is big, hits REALLY hard and fights with great patience and composure. This could be a really bad matchup for Allen.

9-  Ismail Naurdiev vs Sean Brady is WAY too good to be the show opener. A solid welterweight scrap between two ascending prospects. Brady kind of has a bit too much rigidity in his stand up for my liking but he hits hard and keeps a pretty solid pace, reminding me a bit of a less mobile Paul Felder. Naurdiev is the super prospect who gave Michel Prezares hell in his debut and has since bounced between Ls and Ws. Still very young and talented though.

10- Sergey Spivak vs Marcin Tybura is one of the best fights on the whole calendar. Complain elsewhere about it.

11- I'm glad they found somebody for Luis Pena to fight in Steve Garcia; a pretty competent guy who has fought as low as 135 lbs and now is making his debut at lightweight. After missing weight in both weight classes prior, I imagine this may be a potential one and done for Garcia in the UFC barring an impressive performance.

12- Kyler Phillips vs Gabriel Silva has some intriguing fight potential at 135 lbs. Worth going out of your way to see it on the prelims if ya can.
