ship i loved at first sight: tara x piper. i don't know what the ship name is. taper? pira? pira seems nicer lol. anyway, tara used to be my favourite brawler (and is still up there in my top 5) and i think the first time i saw tara x piper fanart was on reddit. it was by Xpyray and i swear to god ive never fallen in love with a ship faster. their art is so fucking good and they dont rlly draw brawl stuff anymore but i still follow them cuz their art is so so so pretty (please go follow them if youre reading this). anyway so yeah thats how tara x piper became my fav ship.

ships i initially didn't like: rico x piper, shelly x colt imma be fr at the start i didn't really Get these ships. but after watching some of the official animations and learning more of the lore, i started to appreciate these ships more. i don't love them or anything but they can be cute

ships i don't like anymore: sandy x nita, leon x jessie, sandy x leon there is no real reason for this other than the fact that i simply stopped liking them as i grew up. as i was making this i realised that when i was younger i used to like the ships with the kids/teens more, but now i'm 17 and i'm just not interested in them anymore. i guess thats what happens when you grow up lol. these ships are still cute, but i just don't engage with them anymore

favourite popular ships: mandy x chester, fang x buster so a bit of background, i actually quit brawl stars for a while, i think after the gale brawl pass. i dont really remember why, but its probably because i just got bored of the game lol. i think that also played into why i'm no longer interested in the same ships as before. anyway, i came back this year during the bizarre circus brawl pass and accidentally fell in love with these two ships. honestly, i'm not even entirely sure why i fell in love with these two ships in particular. chester definitely caught my eye when i came back to the game because a) i love clowns b) i love a good troll c) i love the random XD energy chester has and d) he has super interesting & fun game mechanics. i have no interest in mandy really but then i saw One suggestive mandy x chester fanart that went hard af and suddenly i was on board lmao. on the other hand fang and buster were two characters that i took some time to fall in love with, but now they're my favourites lol it's so strange. i really don't know how it happened.

favourite rarepair: amber x maisie i was looking at a diagram of all the trios so far because i was brainstorming ideas for who to include in a fanfic and as i was looking at it, suddenly it Clicked in my mind that amber x maisie would go hard af. like think about it. overconfident fire entertainer who gets so swept up in performances that she forgets about safety x safety coordinator with a fire extinguisher for an arm who secretly likes being in dangerous situations? come on!!!! im surprised more people havent thought of this pairing cuz as soon as it clicked for me it seemed like such an obvious pairing to do. but then again they've never interacted in any animation/promo material/etc so i guess it's not a pair people would just think of without prompting. but it's so fucking good!!!! more people need to get in on this ship.

controversial ship: none here's the thing. i don't know any controversial ships that i can see myself shipping. the most controversial one i know is probably edgar x colette but i see them as siblings so i don't ship it nor do i engage with fanart of them. edgar and colette ships in general are probably controversial seeing as both of them don't have canon ages and it's vague enough that people are always talking about whether they're adults or minors. but i personally see both of them as older teens so i don't ship them with anyone. (to me, they're too old to hang out with the kid brawlers but also too young to hang out with the adult brawlers. it's weird because there's no other brawlers where i see them as teens, so in my mind edgar and colette both have 0 shipping potential)

comfort ship: fang x buster i think about them All the Fucking Time. lowkey i started to project on fang a bit just cuz i like him so much. i don't even know why or how i started liking him this much but he's my favourite brawler now and it's horrible. i think the seal in the coffin was @/giveittomegay's fanart of them. THEY'RE SO FUCKING CUTE. like omfg. confident, charismatic chinese immigrant who just arrived at starr park x introverted insecure white guy who doesn't know how to approach others. slowburn where they become closer through working at the cinema and buster realises he's fallen in love basically immediately but fang hasn't realised his own sexuality (has had crushes on girls before so always assumed he was straight) and doesn't realise he's in love with buster until maisie straight up tells him. fang's confidence means he jokingly flirts with buster all the time because he thinks it's funny to tease the guy and make him flustered but doesn't realise buster gets flustered because he likes fang. fang is fucking stupid. also, i think using fang x shelly here as a conflict plot point would be so good. like, fang seeing a pretty girl and approaching her, flirting with her, etc. i like to think fang is dense as fuck and would genuinely believe he's in love with shelly despite buster occupying 90% of his thoughts because his thought process would be something along the lines of "oh, i just think about him a lot cuz he's my best friend, i'm sure this is all regular, normal bff things". and buster just fucking dying inside but not saying anything because he thinks it's none of his business and he shouldn't interfere in fang's love life. MAISIE WATCHING ALL THIS HAPPEN AND WANTING TO MURDER BOTH OF THEM FOR BEING SO DENSE. like ohhhhhh my god there is so much potential here it's fucking insane. side note: fang doesn't have anything against gay people. i like to think maisie x amber comes way before fang x buster, so fang knows gay people exist and like he is perfectly fine and comfortable being around them, he's just so stupidly dense that he doesn't realise HE is gay (or more specifically bi). he also assumes buster is straight because default sexuality and whenever fang makes jokes based on this assumption buster never corrects him. because buster is a pussy. god. i want to write this fanfic so bad but i'm so fucking bad at writing dialogue it's insane.

ships that deserve more attention: amber x maisie, brock x bibi, barley x bull, max x janet LET ME COOK HERE OKAY. amber x maisie i already explained above. brock x bibi (i call them bibrock) is because it's noted in bibi's bio that she's secretly a huge nerd and i think it would be super cute for her to have a bf who she can indulge in nerdy and geeky shit with. to me they're both massive comic book fans who become close by playing all the superhero video games together before branching out to other games. they're console gamers btw and they get SUPER competitive whenever they're playing against each other. but they also do play coop games where they work together. usually brock is the one who does a lot of theorycrafting and tries to minmax his grind so he can get all the resources in the most optimal and time efficient way possible, whereas bibi prefers just going into fights and wrecking havoc lol. barley x bull is because they're both restaurant owners/servers (barley has his bar, bull has his diner) and i think they would bond over shitty customers and interesting food/drink recipes. they're both also familiar with having fights break out in their establishment and are fully capable of shutting fights down, even if it means getting their hands dirty. they think they're on opposite ends of the spectrum but they're actually more similar than they realise. for sure a very slowburn romance (especially because i think bull would be denial about liking a fucking robot lmfao) max x janet is because they're both celebrity entertainers. yeah, that's it. no but seriously i see max as someone who puts up an outgoing persona in public and is generally a very hyper, high energy person but at the same time, she tends to keep people at a distance because she's scared of intimacy. before janet, her closest friends are surge and meg. surge kind of Knows something is up with her because every time he tried to ask about her past she clammed up and gave noncommittal responses. he worries about her but doesn't know what to do about it so he just tries to make her happy in the present. meg is a kid so she doesn't realise anything is wrong lol. hanging out with meg and surge makes max happy and she considers them family, but she still has a wall up around her true self. janet is the one who is finally able to help max come out of her shell and address her past trauma. it also helps that max thinks janet is very pretty and desperately wants to kiss her. this is canon btw don't question me.

I made him when I was about 11 and he's basically a superhero cat with superpowers (like flying and laser eyes lmao) saving the world full of anthro animals (furry spotted). His name is Cirmi (basic ass hungarian cat name) and the whole thing was heavily influenced by Powerpuff Girls. :D

nostalgic …

my brain just decided to think of this old old memory from summer of like 5th grade at camp. me and my friend would always pass this group of somewhat older kids who would chill at the same spot and we had a crush on this one guy. so somehow we made it obvious & i dont even remember what we did or said but he would recognize us. then one day i remember i got his number and this one girl in their group asked to see my phone and boneheaded me just gave it to her, my silly little samsung slide, and it turns out she deleted his number right away lolol like sis really did that. i feel like i ended up getting it back somehow and then i had another friend who literally was like family friends with his family! & one day we hung out outside of camp and i have a semi vague memory of it but it was some family event & i just saw him and his brother lol. the camp stories i have are endless. i miss those summer days. especially the last camp i went to, i made so many close friends there who i liked more than my school friends lol like idk we just had so much fun everyday and it was so easy to make friends. when i was younger and had camp counselors, i always stuck by their side like they were an older sibling (which is so cute now that i think about it). the last place i went to had teachers since it was a camp for the arts so i minored in art and majored in dance. my friend group were all from dance and we would hang out with the older groups and it just felt like a big family omg im so nostalgic right nowD; we all loved our dance teachers, specifically the main guy. we had him every year and he pretty much saw us grow each summer.. that man taught me soo much as a dancer and the level of improvement was crazy. whenever summer was over and i went back to dancing at my dance studio, not to boast myself, but i would come back and dance better than my class. we would learn moves that i already learned & i became way more flexible. my technique was still not all there (thats where my next dance studio comes in) but i feel like it was a big difference. im starting to rant now so anyways, yeah i guess with summer coming soon, it made me think of all those summers at camp and im glad i got to go and have that experience and great memories :,)

   It was the beginning of summer, and the Pevensies were spending their time at the local park. It was a quaint but very nostalgic place for the four siblings, since they used to come there all the time when they were smaller. It had two climbing frames that the little kids were enjoying, a swing set, a kiosk that sold ice cream, and a decent sized grass field, which was where the four of them were currently sitting, enjoying ice lollies and conversation.

   Their current conversation topic was interrupted as a girl walked by, calling Peter’s name. All four siblings looked up at the girl, whose cheeks were rosy from blushing, as she waved at the eldest of them. Peter put on a polite smile as he waved back, then turned towards his siblings again. 

   “Who was that?” asked Lucy. 

   Peter shrugged. “Just a girl I shared a couple of classes with in 5th grade.”

   “And..?” Lucy went on. 

   “And... we might’ve shared seven minutes in heaven at a party one time,” said Peter, scratching the back of his head.

   A loud scoff made its way out of Edmund’s mouth at that. 

   “What’s that supposed to mean?” asked Peter immediately. 

   “Just,” said Edmund, “that makes her, what, the fourth one that year? Can’t you ever make up your mind, hoe-bag?” 

   Peter scoffed. “You’re only saying that ‘cause you’ve never said a word to anyone you’ve fancied.”

   “Not true!” Edmund exclaimed. 

   “Yeah?” Peter challenged. “Wanna prove it?” 

   “You’re on.”

   “Alright.” Peter’s eyes scanned the premises. “Her.” He pointed a finger at something behind Edmund’s shoulder. The rest of the Pevensies, not so subtly, turned their heads to see who Peter was pointing at. It was one of the girls working in the park. She was very pretty, wearing a blue t-shirt with the park’s name on the back and jean shorts. Currently, she was busy collecting the small tricycles for closing time.

   “Don’t think I haven’t noticed how you’ve glanced over at her like 20 times since we got here,” he said smugly. Edmund looked away from the girl and back at his older brother, glaring at him defiantly. Unaffected by the haughty glare, Peter continued, “I dare you to get her number.”

   Susan rolled her eyes. “Lay it off, Peter, there’s no need to be such a git. He has nothing to prove to you,” she said, ignoring Peter’s offended expression and turning towards her younger brother, putting a tentative hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have to do it, Ed.”

   “No, I’m going to!” Edmund exclaimed, shrugging Susan’s hand off of him with force. He quickly got up from the blanket and walked towards the girl, determined to prove Peter wrong.

   “Now look what you’ve done!” Susan scolded, shoving at Peter’s shoulder. “He’s going to embarrass himself.”

   “Who says he’s going to embarrass himself?” asked Lucy, making the other two look at her questioningly.

   “What do you mean?” asked Peter.

   Lucy raised a sassy eyebrow. “Well, you may have noticed Edmund looking at her, but you both clearly missed all the times she’s been looking at him.”

   “Do you need any help with that?”

   The girl’s movements halted as the sound of Edmund’s question carried through the air. She looked up from where she was crouching, and as her eyes locked on his frame, a sweet smile pulled at her lips.

   “Yeah, some help would be nice.” Her voice was even sweeter than her smile. “You could take that heavy one over there,” she said, pointing at the kid’s bicycle a few feet away. Edmund let out a brief chuckle, quickly wiping his thumb across his lips before walking over and picking up the bike she’d pointed at.

   The girl resumed her grip on the much smaller tricycle and lifted it up. She explained shortly that they were supposed to put them all in the small red shed. He already knew this, of course, since he had come here so often, but he said nothing.

   “So, what’s your name?” she asked as the two of them headed toward the shed.

   “Edmund,” he said, keeping his gaze ahead of him and willing every cell in his body to stop his cheeks from heating up. He normally didn’t really do stuff like this, but he was determined to prove Peter wrong.

   “Edmund...” She repeated his name slowly, as if testing out how it sounded coming from her lips. “I’m Y/n.”

   Y/n. Pretty name.

   “So, Edmund,” Y/n said as they reached the red shed, and she pulled the keys out of her pocket to unlock it, “is there a reason you’re helping me out or are you just a gentleman like that?”

   “I’m not a gentleman,” he stated, making Y/n let out a surprised laugh. “But anything to get away from my brother.”

   “Ah,” she said, opening the door and shoving the tricycle into the small room. “Is he that blonde guy you were sitting with?”

   Edmund nodded and put his bike down on the floor, taking a mental note of the fact that Y/n must have been watching him to know who he was sitting with. “Yeah, Peter enjoys teasing for sure. He thinks he’s all high and mighty, but he wet the bed until he was eight years old.”

   Y/n laughed again, and they headed out to collect more things that needed to be put in the shed overnight. “Anyone who wets the bed until they’re eight doesn’t have the right to tease anyone for anything.”

   “That’s what I keep saying! But he gets really mad anytime I bring it up.”

   “All the more reason to do it.” Y/n smirked and winked at Edmund, who thought he felt his heart leap out of his chest for a second.

   Together, the two of them continued gathering all the leftover supplies, toys and bicycles that were left around the park’s grounds whilst making playful conversation. Edmund was surprised at how easy he found it to speak with Y/n. 

   When they were finally finished, and Y/n was fishing her keys out of her pocket to close the shed for the night, he couldn’t help but feel a sad tug on his heart, as this meant the end of their conversation. That was until it hit him. He had been sent here on a mission. He was supposed to get her phone number. Which meant that he needed to ask for it now, or Peter would win. 

   Suddenly, the nerves that had disappeared once he had gotten a good rapport going with Y/n, came back tenfold. 

   “I hope you’re not expecting some sort of financial compensation for your help.” Y/n’s voice brought him back to reality. “I know you said you’re not a gentleman, but I could really use all the money I can get from this job.”

   Edmund’s heartbeat was increasing rapidly as he gathered the courage for what he knew he had to do.

   Come on, Ed. You can do it.

   “How about you just give me your number instead?”

   He watched Y/n’s face intently after the question left his mouth. First, her eyes widened slightly in shock. Then, her eyebrows rose and her head tilted ever so slightly to the left, as if impressed. Finally, a cute and adorable little grin made its way across her face. She averted her eyes from his for a couple of seconds, before looking back and holding her palm out towards him. 

   Confused, Edmund hesitantly reached out and took her hand in his. 

   Loud laughter started bubbling out of Y/n’s mouth. She put her hand over her mouth for a moment to cover the enchanting sound, before saying, “No, your phone, idiot. So I can give you my number.” 

   “Oh.” Edmund’s face grew beet red as he as quickly as possible removed his grip from Y/n’s hand before reaching into his back pocket for his phone. This only made Y/n laugh more. 

   “You’re sweet,” she said. 

   Edmund’s face got even redder, if that was possible. 

   Finally, he managed to have unlocked his phone, opened the contacts app, and handed it to Y/n without embarrassing himself any further. She typed her number in and handed it back to him. The first thing Edmund took notice of was the little heart emoji she’d added next to her name. 

   “So, I’ll be hearing from you soon...?” asked Y/n. 

   Edmund nodded. “Yeah, definitely.” 

   She nodded back and moved to walk away from him, but hesitated, and before he knew it, she had turned back to him, given him a quick kiss on the cheek, and walked off. 

   Edmund stood there for a couple of seconds gathering himself, before he turned back, holding his phone up with Y/n’s contact on it with a smug look on his face as he walked towards Peter, who couldn’t believe what he’d just witnessed.

BNHA Stranger Things AU. On a seemingly normal day after a fun round of DND with his friends Izuku Midoriya leaves on his bike from the Todoroki residence…and disappears without a trace. His mother and brother (Inko and Tenko) frantically search for answers alongside the Chief of Police (Toshinori). Meanwhile, Izuku’s group of friends (Todoroki, Kirishima, and Kaminari) have a strange encounter with a little girl with white hair and red eyes…Todoroki, being the leader of the group, decides to shelter her and give her the name Eri. They find that Eri is inexplicably connected with Izuku’s disappearance and decide to delve into the mysteries surrounding their town.

As for roles!!

Izuku as Will: Makes sense for him being the meek, kindhearted outcast kid who suddenly has to rely on all his survival instincts in the Upside Down. And for things to just strangely happen to even after he’s rescued. Also the enormous hints that Will is gay in canon is the perfect excuse to make this a Tododeku AU no I will not apologize for that

Todoroki as Mike: Very uncharacteristic LOL but I imagine him being a lot more outgoing in this AU since he’s had a relatively normal life growing up. He’s fiercely protective of Eri and will do anything to rescue Izuku. He’s able to keep calm in most situations unless his friends are in danger, and then he goes feral. So pretty much all the time fndnfndn

Kirishima as Dustin: The happy go lucky dorky kid!! With some deeper self esteem issues he keeps well hidden. Very smart and outgoing and has no filter whatsoever. He’s a very go with the flow kind of person but can be stubborn at times.

Kaminari as Lucas: This one makes a little less sense but as I was thinking it over. I realized Kaminari can be timid at times and will be stubborn when it comes to protecting himself. I can definitely see him being wary of Eri and telling Todoroki they should just stay out of it for their own safety. BUT at the end of the day he’s super loyal to his friends so he’ll follow along with them eventually.

Eri as El: Could not be MORE fitting honestly. Both of them grew up only as experiments and were used by other people. They’re super wary and not trusting of others. Their powers are incredibly strong and dangerous when they go out of control. They’re both self sacrificial and will throw themselves in harm’s way to protect their friends. Btw Eri and Todoroki’s relationship in this AU is strictly platonic they don’t date at any point, esp since I want Eri to be a few years younger than the boys to start with. They just have a really close familial relationship

Toshinori as Hopper: He proteccs the children! He will do anything to keep them safe and get the job done! He’s weak for Inko and can’t say no to her, not really! He’s close with the Midoriya family and eventually ends up adopting Eri. He is a Dad to literally all of the kids in this AU. He’s probably not as vulgar as Hopper but he’s just as stubborn lmao

Inko as Joyce: Pretty obvious choice. Inko is the fierce mama bear ready to do anything to save her kid, and is brilliantly smart. She can put all the puzzle pieces together and get things solved quicker than anybody else.

Tenko as Jonathan: I debated a LONG time over this but I’ve honestly never had an AU where Shigaraki is a good boy so I’m letting him have this one. Also big bro Tenko to Izuku makes me soft. He fits as the social outcast who does his own thing and admires the popular kids from afar. Once he starts looking into something he won’t stop until he gets the job done.

Touya as Nancy: Older sibling annoyed with younger sibling yet still protective of them, super handsome, incredibly stubborn and focused. Also very responsible. He’s got a bit of a dorky side to him but he’s charming so he gets away with it. Surprisingly fierce when he needs to be. I’ve seen a lot of Touya/Dabi x Shigaraki art and now I guess I get to explore what their relationship is like in this AU lol

Hawks as Steve: Arrogant popular boy? Check. Kind of an asshole? Check. Has a super soft side to him? Check. Babysits children? Check. Steve’s character development is absolutely god tier and having Hawks in his role makes me so excited. Also Hawks and Kirishima being bffs 🥺

Shinsou as Max: Social outcast with a snooty attitude yet a desperation to fit in with the group…yeah…checks out. He tells things like they are and is not afraid to be blunt about any given situation. He grows very attached to the group and ends up dating Kaminari so 👀

THERE ARE MORE but those are the main character roles I was thinking of so yeah the brainrot is real big with this one

BnHA Chapter 302: As the Todoroki Turns

Previously on BnHA: 

Today on BnHA: We have a very fun chapter in which (1) Shouto grows up lonely on account of his parents being worried that his siblings will literally try to kill him, (2) Natsu and Fuyu grow up neglected on account of not being special and/or self-destructive enough to attract attention, (3) we get to revisit all of that exciting spousal abuse from chapter 39, and (4) Touya burns to death right on cue, pretty much exactly like we expected it to happen. Thankfully since this is a shounen manga, Horikoshi finds some hope in all this misery as the Todoroki family rallies together, with Shouto getting his long-overdue credit for being a perfect sweet angel who put up with all of this shit for sixteen years and somehow came out of it strong and kind and empathetic and determined. Anyway, so that flashback was a barrel of laughs. But now that it’s over, we can put all of that angst behind us, and move on to... well I guess, probably, more angst. Look, we’re short on variety at the moment. Bear with it.

A+ parenting move there. “ho boy, our eldest just tried to murder our youngest, now what? hmm how about we isolate our youngest from all human contact”

though in their defense, we probably shouldn’t have expected this rabidly strength-obsessed fire man and his wife who was groomed since childhood to obey her family’s whims to have any idea of how to raise stable, well-adjusted offspring

this is a perfect example of Enji’s tragically self-revolving viewpoint right here. just because being a hero is your entire world doesn’t mean you can just excuse yourself from anything outside of that and act like it’s out of your control. “alas, all I care about is hero stuff and my son can’t be a hero, we are doomed to inhabit two different worlds” no you jackass, it’s called having more than one hobby?? figuring out how to spend some time with your son that doesn’t involve training?? the same exact thing you were telling him to do last week, while ignoring that you’ve never done that yourself in your life??

that said, yet again we have that complexity though because it’s obvious that Enji at least on some level is aware of his own flaws, even though he seems unwilling or unable to confront them. honestly, from what we’ve seen so far, Enji’s obsession with surpassing All Might might be more accurately called an addiction. he literally can’t let go of it even though he’s fully aware of how it’s slowly destroying his life. and so in the same way that a lifelong smoker or alcoholic might tell their child to stay away from cigarettes and booze, Enji tells Touya not to follow down the same path as him, even though he himself doesn’t know how to leave that path. so yes, it’s hypocritical as fuck, but there’s also an element of helplessness there as well because Enji literally doesn’t know how not to be like this

though all the same he sure could stand to put in more than just a token effort. but it is what it is, and we already know how much he’ll come to regret it

and meanwhile Baby Shouto has frozen his sleep bubble with his quirk lmao. so I guess his quirk did come in early. that’s a recipe for chaos right there

once again Shouto is ruining every single dramatic panel in this flashback

this was so dark and intense... and then I spotted the lil bubs in the corner. Horikoshi please control yourself

“some hero you are, running away” and then all of a sudden, “FIVE YEARS LATER” lol what. OKAY THEN

(ETA: love the confirmation that eight-year-old Natsu comes from the Iida school of puberty and is basically a fully grown man, and meanwhile Touya comes from the hobbit school of puberty and has been perpetually eight for the past five years.)

“HEY BIG BRO WANNA COME RECREATE AN ICONIC FLASHBACK SCENE WITH US. WE’VE GOT THE SOCCER BALL RIGHT HERE, BUT HURRY UP OR WE’LL BE TOO LATE FOR SHOUTO TO WALK ON BY AND STOP TO LOOK”

lol and that’s literally the next three panels. but Horikoshi did add this extra bit after Endeavor starts to drag Shouto away

seriously Enji what the hell did you expect was going to happen here. “Touya went nuts and tried to kill his little brother out of jealousy, so let’s make it clearer than ever that Shouto is the important child and all the other children are just rejects. this will definitely not make the problem 100x worse, and will surely lead to Touya giving up and living a happy life, having been emotionally abandoned by the person he admired more than anyone.” good for you pal you figured it all out. no need for that plan b, “we all just go to therapy”

anyway so he’s telling Shouto he can’t play because he needs more endurance training. and meanwhile Touya’s patented Todoroki Drama Genes are going through puberty as well

definitely the face of a happy, emotionally stable child who’s not still plotting to murder his younger brother in his sleep

apparently during the five year interim Touya actually stopped blaming Shouto and realized Enji was the one at fault. good for him! a bit inconsistent, given what we know happens later, but I assume we’ll get to that in good time

anyway. “yeah man I agree that dad sucks, but it’s the middle of the night and I’m only eight and you’ve been monologuing for the past two hours bro”

looks like someone’s still miffed about that disagreement he had with his baby sister back when she was like four

“Fuyu doesn’t get properly riled up like I want her to so ranting to her is annoying.” okay but having been in Fuyu’s shoes, it really is just a different way of coping, and I can guarantee she’s not as fine with the whole situation as Touya might think. but making your peace with something is often a decision that’s made for emotional self-preservation reasons. and I sure as hell don’t fault her for trying to shut out a situation that she had no control over, and trying to make the best of it, and scrape together as normal a childhood as she could manage

and now in Touya’s defense as well, that is of course easier said than done, and I’m sure if there was a “push this button and instantly get over all of the trauma in your life” switch readily available for Touya then he would have pushed it too. unfortunately it’s not always that simple

so now Rei is pleading with Touya not to go train up on his little emo hill again, but it doesn’t seem like much has changed since he was eight

I don’t think he gives two figs about being a hero; he just wants his father to look at him again with pride. fucking hell, stop doing this to me you damn Todorokis

even if we hadn’t already known he was gonna go melt his jawbone off soon, I wouldn’t have expected a line like that to go over well

okay but look, he’s not entirely wrong. like, I’m not saying any of this is Rei’s fault at all! she’s in an impossible situation where she’s afraid to stand up to Enji (who by this point has shown that he’s willing to physically attack her if things get too heated, which is terrifying), and doesn’t really have anywhere to turn for support. her parents aren’t helping much if at all, and Japan in general is just a terrible country to be in when you’re in a domestic abuse situation. everyone’s expected to put on a brave face and deal with their problems all on their own in private. Rei is basically completely isolated at this point, and she doesn’t know what else to do, and so she’s just trying to keep the situation as stable as possible for the kids

but on the other hand, “for the kids” is also where that argument starts to break down a bit, because at this point Shouto is also being physically abused by his father, and the other kids are continuing to be neglected (emotionally if not physically), as they have been for years. so the situation really isn’t stable at all for them. and as a kid, what you end up learning in that type of situation is that you can’t rely on either parent. not the abusive one, certainly, but also not the other one who can’t protect you from any of it. even if they love you and they’re trying, they’re just as helpless as you. Rei is struggling to deal with all of this with one hand tied behind her back, and I get it, and I’m not blaming her at all. but all the same, particularly given that she’s (understandably) putting almost all her focus on Shouto, the end result is that the other kids have basically been left to fend for themselves

so yeah! a shitty situation all around. and one of those cases where it’s not really anyone’s fault (aside from Enji’s), but I can understand the resentment Touya is feeling all the same. and I’m so glad Horikoshi is acknowledging this, because it’s something I probably would have been too uncomfortable to bring up otherwise. as it is it’s still an incredibly heavy subject, and one that I probably have too many personal feelings about

anyway, so once again the whole “we’ll try talking to him and then just shrug our shoulders when it doesn’t work” parenting strategy doesn’t really pan out for the Todoroki fam

sob this boy is Anakin Skywalkering before our very eyes. all that’s missing is AFO to come and start whispering in his ear. any minute now...

yeah I think that’s one thing we can mostly all agree on. neither of them had any clue what the fuck they were doing pretty much at any point. though I will say that the hypocrisy of him being all “WHY DIDN’T YOU STOP HIM” followed by him IMMEDIATELY DOING THE EXACT SAME THING is a bit rich

(ETA: and he still has this problem, doesn’t he? he froze up when Ending snatched Natsuo, and again when Dabi was attacking Shouto. he’s so afraid of doing the wrong thing that he ends up not doing anything, which of course is exactly what led to Touya’s death. damn Enji I guess you’ve still got some additional character development to unlock.)

and of course neither of them could possibly have known how badly it was going to turn out. like, the consequences here were WAY disproportionate even for the shittiest of parenting. no one expects “I didn’t know how to talk to my son” to snowball into “my son burned to death and then somehow came back as a villain and murdered thirty people”

LITERALLY INCINERATED THE ENTIRE HILLSIDE. fuck. and I am so not ready for the scene of Enji finding the remains of his jawbone afterwards. at least we were spared anything super-graphic (for now at least)

I feel like the timeline here is off, btw?? wasn’t Touya’s death supposed to happen after Rei got hospitalized? this might be the first actual retcon of the entire flashback. although I think it makes more sense this way tbh

I do appreciate that ten years later Enji is finally reflecting on the fact that if he’d just given up his stupid obsession he could have stopped his family from crumbling apart. that probably sounds sarcastic as fuck, but it’s not. there are countless jerks out there who would have still managed to find a way to blame literally everyone and everything under the sun except for themselves. at least he finally figured out how to take responsibility, even if it came too late to stop his son from dying and being radicalized into a villain terrorist organization

and speaking of, it seems to me we’re missing a third and final part to this little tale of woe, and one which only Touya himself will be able to shed any light on. so we’ll see how that goes

oh man seeing the other kids blaming themselves even though none of it was their fault hits hard af. Rei wasn’t kidding when she said they’d been bearing that burden of guilt far longer than Enji

BUT ALSO HE STILL REFUSES TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM AND HE WOULD LIKE HIM TO STOP BEING SO FUCKING DRAMATIC ALREADY IF YOU DON’T MIND. “WHEN YOU’RE DONE CRYING...” fkjldsk

and those Kelpie had corrupted the Sirens they had copied the forms of,

and they end up as their scapegoats and banished to the human world.

the negative magic energy is what transforms the Siren-Ponies into their corrupted forms. 

so yeah I believe as soon as Stygian got back with help,

the Sirens were made the scapegoats for the Kelpies.

but anyway back to Alphys, I think it be a good idea that Alphys being a Transwoman is made canon.

and by the looks of Chapter 2, the canon of the ship between Undyne and Alphys is strong.

if it turns out that Susie doesn’t have parents, and it is just her and her unknown sister....and maybe other siblings.

then Undyne and Alphys can become Susie and her siblings new Moms.

well if Susie only has one sibling, then those two would just end up being the adoptive mothers of just Susie and her younger sister or older sister.

it be cute if Susie accidentally calls Alphys Mom in class.

that show can be seen as taking place in a different timeline, where the girls are a few years older than their past selves and share the same past like their counterparts but their futures ending up differently.

Can we just talk about the ending of KawoShin open discuss. *sort of spoilerish*

I feel like I’m the only one who’s like reallly disappointed LMFAO--ya’ll there’s so much “canon” alternative universe and merchandise for Kawoshin in Evangelion that it kind of makes me upset to realise this couple just went down the drain. Yeah, I can see how people were like, “Kaworu’s toxic” or “Kaworu has a hero complex for Shinji” to which I say are valid points. But the toxic thing I feel like can also be applied to pretty much everyone around Shinji tbh, except for Rei. I did NOT, like Asuka at all but I really love her character though, and I felt for her a lot throughout the series.

I did not ship them either because honestly, Shinji and Asuka seemed better off playing the sibling dynamic instead of trying to play bf/gf which honestly is kind of forced by their living situation. Also since they’re in a similar disposition non existent father and dead mother, you’d imagine they would rely on each other for emotional comfort. Though Asuka—her personality I feel like she can’t differentiate between familial love and romantic love and the affection she wants is a bit of both. But, her character tries to be “mature”; she wants romantic love more and does this through sexual means and romantic gestures e.g. like kissing. One of my friends told me that you can’t stay friends as a boy and a girl cause eventually you catch feelings. Which I say is kinda dumb cause I have a lot of male friends, and I definitely don’t harbour those feelings, but I guess it’s a common phenomena.

I think this is what happens in this case, of Asuka and Shinji. Even after rejection of instrumentality they actually are depicted as childhood friends. But knowing how they both were before to each other, it was not good tbh. Also to mention the choking like thrice— bro if anything, this showcases a really abusive relationship and I think this outstretches the idea of their character tropes. Which I firmly stand by saying they’re superficial to each other. AsuShin were never really there for each other and are using each other in a forced situation. However, you can’t deny that they didn’t at some point catch feels, also Shinji is pretty consistent how he still cares about everyone around him. Which I really like how they add that to his character because it reminiscent of Yui, because you see a duality of both his parents personality in Shinji throughout the series—it’s a really nice touch. But bruh, if we gonna talk about that coma scene—I’m out LOL.

Thoughhhh, she is a true definition of best girl I really like her arc, fighting drive, and her skills as an Eva pilot 😭💗--but bruh she’s still a toxic and sometimes annoying tsundere trope, but still she’s 14 what can you do. So I feel like Kensuke and Asuka are actually a pretty good combo, cause he’s always been pretty mature even without parents. Also Asuka was into older guys, so I guess this is a win win?? Also Rei and Shinji, I honestly cannot get my head around it cause that’s pretty much his mom—so in a way that’s like either his half-sister or mom-ish clone?? Idk but Yui is definitely the donor LOL.

Kaworu and Shinji I felt like brought a bunch of things out of each other. I don’t know which timeline begins first, but I’d like to think the manga, the anime (plus its movies), and then to the rebuild series. Because I think that order is kind of pivotal to observing Kaworu’s character development from being a person who’s trying to understand human feelings to then the kinder person we see in the final series. You can tell how he’s changed and he knows Shinji a lot more as well as being considerate to him e.g. giving him personal space or letting him work at his own pace. Also that “we’ll meet again.” Is an obvious nod to how he’s done this before.

His literal story in every timeline is always romantic LOL, like bruh I can’t remember which game it was but basically a bad ending of Kawoshin route is that you reject Kaworu and he starts the third impact 🤡. Also I don’t know why but I started to see a weird dynamic between those two, in the manga their interactions reminded me of Asuka and Shinji—which Shinji is the tsundere Asuka here. I don’t know if this is relevant but the older character relative to the character they’re with seems to play off a mature vs a childish person trope. Asuka is younger than Shinji and Shinji is actually younger than Kaworu. Then again I could be overseeing this but istg manga Kaworu and Shinji mirror the whole Asushin dynamic. Like he’s seriously agressive against Kaworu, then after killing him he admits liking him. 🤡 I don’t know which is funnier no homo Shinji, homophobe shinji, or just closet Shinji who needs to realise sexuality is a spectrum so he could’ve idk—come out as bisexual, but whatever manga Shinji lol that timeline is over.

Anyways the development of these two is real and I think the rebuild timeline shows them at their best bringing their own personage out from each other like how they both enjoy music together--WHICH I’M SO SAD WE NEVER GET TO SEE THAT CELLO AGAIN. Then there’s those feelings of humanity, love, kindness, etc. Which yeah an angel could represent those things, but Kaworu is still his own person, self-aware of a cycle and if you think about how he initially was there to USE Shinji, but ultimately turned on that plan set by SEELE because he loved Shinji (and a bunch of other things like him showing Kaworu humanity). I also can see the argument, how “ideal” Kaworu is to Shinji, but he’s more self aware of the time he has before he KNOWS he’ll die and knows how to act for himself in that duration to make the most of it. All with Shinji. At some point, I think he fell in love with Shinji tho I don’t know where it began tbh—considering that all those alternate universes do exist. Kaworu does romantically love Shinji--so, in some universe they both reciprocate their feelings to each other. 

In the last movie during that convo with Shinji. Like bREH it’s so emotionally moving because Kaworu remembers ALLLLL the timelines and how he’s been with Shinji and later Shinji himself recalls the events too. Where they show the scene from the manga and anime. Kaworu cries after being set free from the EVA cycle. Which, I definitely understood what he meant by him saying “it’ll be lonely” and how Shinji changed or that he’s actually different this time.

Either way, Shinji did right by him because it’s always Kaworu who has the purpose of “trying to save Shinji” but it always ends up the same. I thought that was really moving because Shinji tells Kaworu he’s gonna let him live a life for himself for once and he wants the same for everyone as well. Which was honestly so meaningful cause I think Kaworu’s character and like Rei too when they start to realise how to “live” like a person and not another puppet it’s truly liberating. Another thing I forgot, bruh Kaworu calls Gendo his father and ngl I feel like this is kind of a weird lore situation because I for sure don’t think he’s the donor. I think he calls him that as an insult because he knows Gendo’s whole doing and relative to Shinji—I kind of see it as a joke LOL. Like it’s equivalent to saying, “daddy chill”, or “hey look it’s daddy and his plans to end the world” also I kind of like to think of it as a father in law thing cause you know, Kawoshin *winks amirite*

The ending, I’m honestly hoping is just an open ending because it gives everything an actual start of their adult lives not being dictated by extraterrestrial forces. Though, I’m kind of wondering if the world doesn’t have EVAs does that still mean everyone else still has the same backstory, and do they remember? Maybe Mari really is just a coworker lmfao, and there’s still a chance for Kaworu and Shinji cause ngl, they did have a convo (presumably from the spoilers) about still remaining close afterwards and that stare at the ending seems very hopeful.

I call bs from Anno saying, “oh Shinji is based off him and Mari off of his wife”, like honestly any OCs made theres always some part of yourself made into that character. Which is probably why a lot of people relate to the characters in EVA because they’re based off real things (e.g. those war machines characters are named after and people around them). I think why Kaworu and Rei are together at the end, is bc they’re very much the same. They’re mass produced dolls—which oddly enough that’s the case for all the children except they don’t recall the loop. Kind of funny also how both Kaworu and Rei became farmers lmfao so ig it runs in the family (yes that’s right I like the idea that they’re siblings it was always noted that they’re like “the same”).

Another thing, i think why the rebuild really did well for Kawoshin and in my opinion canonised it—the convo with elder Ryoji Kaji (Misato’s baby daddy) that there was a time he felt incredibly lonely and depressed thinking Misato didn’t love him and so he started looking out for himself. So self love and found himself a hobby in farming which he suggests to Kaworu—basically saying he might feel like Shinji doesn’t love him but he’s gotta remember to take care of himself. if I go thru a breakup ill feel like it’s the end of the world but Kaji says y’a gotta self love broe and take care yo self gad dam fam 😭 💗.

Though, that look at the end from Shinji to Kaworu—I’d like to believe there is still hope that one day when they’re a bit stable in their adult lives, they’ll run into each other.

Hello! It’s already May... Life updates - a roller coaster of emotions

A tempestuous, tearful April... Aghh the struggle has not eased up a bit. Living is just too expensive to be shouldered by part-time wages, meager freelance, and fickle confidence. My parents are disappointed - I’ve always tried to dodge the questions about my uncertain future. After all, I don’t have any answers.

What nearly broke my spirit was the humiliating scolding I received on my birthday. “You’re almost 30. Stop playing around at the cafe, don’t you know your bank account is nearly empty? How will you pay for this? If you can’t afford car insurance then just bike to work!” I didn’t even have time to think about how inconsiderate that was. In a daze, I hung up and went to my second part-time job that day.

Well, Dad, those are the questions I asked myself every single day. All I can do is keep trying even if you don’t believe in me. Because, despite everything, I still believe in myself.

Nothing good will come out of asking these punishing questions. I don’t know if things will get better or worse. Just gotta do what I can to get by as a small creature existing in this universe.

I learned to stop blaming myself for not being successful. Given the circumstances, I think the odds are stacked pretty high against most of us right now.

I’ve begun my investment journey! After studying how it all works I have come to understand the value of investing. It was one of my resolutions for this year and I’m glad I’ve achieved it.

My brother, a crypto enthusiast, knows my monetary plight and has been helping me out in the weirdest ways.

6 am text: “Hey Sis, you got $1000? Put it into Dogecoin... like NOW.”

I don’t like doing these kinds of high-risk-high-reward investments but what the heck, I was desperate. I applied for an account that can trade crypto.

In the end my account got rejected (there was no explanation) and I gave up. Because of course that would happen lol.

My roommate / best friend decided she wanted to move to her own place and find her own way in life. Of course, my fragile heart, still tender from the previous month’s beating, took it very personally. I was reassured it wasn’t my fault - there are plenty of other valid reasons why.

We’ve been sharing an apartment for 6 years now, and although I knew it would happen someday, it was quite shocking to hear it being said to me in reality. At first, I laughed it off because I’ve been dreaming about moving out of the country anyway and it all works out. I’m an introverted, neat-freak, homebody! It’s perfect! But after a very pensive shower, I realized that I’m actually terrified to be without any companionship. Either way, I have to put my feelings aside because I don’t wanna hold her back from her dreams. I may have trouble accepting it now but hopefully I can genuinely be happy for her in time.

The Plant Life Please welcome Rokurou, the newest addition to my jungle.

It’s been a few weeks and he totally ate bugs already lol. Nice! I was thinking the smaller traps wouldn’t catch anything, but it turns out they’ve been doing the most work. The larger traps can’t catch ants or tiny gnats. They just crawl out after the trap snaps shut.

This venus fly trap is rather picky about what water he gets so I’ve been out there collecting rainwater in buckets JUST for him! Kind of a pain, but I will do whatever it takes to keep him alive.

It was a very tiny dream of mine to collect and care for carnivorous plants. If the shop had more varieties, I would probably buy them all.

I thought I was gonna die... Hostess for a day. One day while working at the cafe, this old Chinese man came in asking how much I made here. Then he told me if I work as a hostess/front desk person at his restaurant (which was next to the cafe, by the way), he will pay me more than the cafe. He slipped me $5 to go see him after my shift at 9pm. It was soooooo sketch. But I went anyway to at least hear him out after telling my roommate and my parents where I was going. You know... in case I die.

Luckily I didn’t die. It was a normal Chinese restaurant. I met the staff and they were all super cool and the mysterious old man goes by Mr. Lin.

Mr. Lin was very chill about it. He said I can have a trial run after my bakery shift on Saturday. If I don’t like it, I can just tell him no and he will pay me for my time.

I knew it was a bad idea to take another shift after a long shift at the cafe but I did it anyway. It was BUSY. Too busy for anyone to teach me how to be a hostess so I literally just had to guess what I’m supposed to be doing. It was kinda obvious though, showing people to their tables. I picked them at random bc I didn’t know if there was a method to seating people or not.

There are three different menus: Chinese, Korean and English and they’re ALL different. Depending on the nationality of who walks in, I have to decide for myself which menu to hand out. Uhhhhh despite being Asian myself, I cannot tell the difference between Korean and Chinese people lmao so I have to keep awkwardly asking people which menu they want. *screams*

The manager, Vincent, is so OP though. He knows exactly which menu to get every time. I was like HOW DO YOU KNOW?? He only responded with “working in the business for 24 years.”

Anyway, it was a long and confusing night of people thinking I am a waitress and me not knowing where the spoons are. But I don’t think this job is for me, even if it pays a lot.

There sure is plenty of demand for part-time food service workers and zero demand for full-time graphic designers... sigh. My journey doing random jobs in 2021 continues.

My brother graduated pharmacy school last week. In our culture, the older sibling’s shoulders is where all the expectations should rest. Maybe in another AU I would feel small and inferior to my younger and more successful sibling. But I don’t feel anything like that. In fact, if he can take care of my parents while I’m trying to figure out my own life, then I’m just more grateful to him. Maybe my parents don’t expect anything of me anymore, which is okay. Either way, my brother and I have each other’s backs.

Berseria I went into it with ZERO expectations because of its infamous predecessor, but I have come out pleasantly surprised. I liked it more than I thought. I’m at the end but I’m not done with the story yet.

I remember expressing my utter confusion about Zesty and everyone was like “play Berseria, it will answer a majority of your questions.” And boy, it did and I’m so glad. I loved all the throwbacks and references and lore that had to do with the previous game. Like, they really had something interesting going on here but it never quite came to fruition last time.

Is it just me, or did it take a very long time to understand all the battle mechanics? Like... I didn’t get the hang of the game until we got to Meirchio. Now I am quite good at playing Rokurou, my main. And it feels way more fun. I usually like mage characters in the old tales games but tbh I wasn’t really into it this time.

After we finish Bersy, we will be moving on to Xillia 2, our final Tales game! Gaius, I’m coming for you.

Xenoblade At the same time, I am also finishing up Xenoblade after spending nearly a year on it. I have weeks where I’m just grinding the side quests to unlock the skill trees. When I’m down, traveling and exploring in this game puts my worries to rest. Really though, the maps are so beautiful... And the music! T_T

This is one of the few games where I like every character pretty much equally, though Dundun and Riki win by just a little bit.

You guys, I am so sad! Alexander Goth has passed away in my game! 😭

I didn’t think I’d find myself so attached to him, but once his special day came, I was really sad that he was gone!

Using a clean template of Pleasantview, I added Bella back into the Goth family. Dina Caliente was invited over one night, and mysteriously died of starvation in front of Mortimer.

Bella and Mortimer has a surprise baby that resulted in twins! Bella named the twins ‘Matilda’ and ‘Gomez’. At the same time, Cassandra was pregnant with Darin’s baby, who I named David. I personally reject the idea of Cassandra actually marrying Don Lothario, and it seems pretty obvious the devs ‘intended’ for her to be left at the altar, in order to get with Mr. Dreamer.

In his teen years, Alex became really fascinated with playing piano, and I made that his one true hobby. He got 3 scholarships and happily went off to college with Lilith Pleasant, Dustin Broke, Derk Dreamer, Lucy Burb, and some paper kids. oops. lol

In college, I let Alex let loose and have some fun. Even though he’s a Goth, he has every right to let out and be himself! He had minor chemistry with Lilith, and even shared his first kiss with her. She also became his first woohoo...in the hot  tub!

I decided to give Alex a makeover, and change his looks. Just because he was nerdy in private school, doesn’t mean he has to look like that as an adult! Now, I honestly think that the devs did Alex dirty. He’s supposed to look like a younger version of Mortimer, but for some reason his nose is...bad. Sorry dude. Anyway, Alex put the glasses away, and started to grow out his hair a little. Even grow a mustache. He changed out of the nerdy clothes and into some more comfortable.

Things got crazy in college. Someone bought a counterfeit money machine and Dustin Broke would work on it, trying to get some more cash. Unfortunately, the machine caught on fire and everyone burned to death. Alex was in class at the time but he missed the fire. But due to sim logic, he ran inside when the building was still burning and died too....

Thankfully, he was resurrected by Beau Broke, who also resurrected Dustin, and Lucy Burb.

Afraid of staying in the same dorm, Alex and Lucy decided to move out and live in a cottage down the road. The two found their feelings for each other, and did extremely well in school. They also would not stop woohooing thanks to ACR. Anyway, the game made Lucy a romance sim, and once she got the option to change her aspiration, I made her a family sim. Almost immediately she wanted to marry Alex.

After graduating college, Alex and Lucy got married and built a home together. Alex wanted to be a part of the SCIA, and reach its top rank. Lucy wanted to have 6 kids. The two had 4 girls, and 2 boys. Feeling clever, I named 4 of those children after Earthbound characters (Teddy, Paula, Jeff, and Anna). The children were excellent in school, though Alex didn’t feel private school was really necessary for a proper education. I guess college really hippified him. ☮

The couple were really great at cooking, a skill that passed on to one of their children. The majority of them became highly skilled in creativity, this generation of the Goths becoming very musically inclined.

When the two oldest children, Lucia and Jennifer, were still children, Alex’s nephew David (Cassandra’s one and only child) moved in with him after graduating college. David’s parents had passed away, and he had nowhere else to go. Or so Alex thought.

When David moved in, he soon invited his wife and TWO CHILDREN to move in with him also. Little did Alex know that David was already married! This caused a lot of tension in the household, but Alex let the family stay just long enough to get far ahead in his career. Due to Sophie Miguel’s ties, Alex was able to get a few promotions thanks to those friendships.

Once Sophie aged into elder status, her and her family moved out of Alex’s household. With great relief too, since Lucia and Jennifer really hated their cousins, and couldn’t stand doing their homework.

Not long after, Alex got to the top of SCIA. It seemed so fast, and yet he had been pining for the position for so long too. Lucy got to the top of her career too, in the movie theater.

Lucia and Jennifer went off to college together, since they were born around the same time. Right as they finished college, Lucy passed away due to old age. :(

Even though Lucia was the oldest, she didn’t find a partner until almost all her siblings had gotten married and had children. Jennifer ended up having 6 children! Lucia got married to a man named Nelson, and not long after, Alex retired from work. He liked to mess around with model trains, and even made a servo with his gold badge in robotics. Alex named him Greg. :)

And then, one day, it was time for Alex to go away. The sweet old man with over 7 grandchildren, a passion in music, and a golden bond with his wife was called home.

Fruits Basket, SE02, Ep20

This is a buildup ep for yuki’s confession, like most buildup eps in furuba they kinda seem awkward & a bit stretched, but overall this one is not bad. 

-The theme of “ letting go” & tohru:

Tohru needs to Not only let go of her excessive attachment to her mom, but also, of treating yuki as needing of much help all the time. tohru’s is the mother friend for all, she tends to care for everybody, however, since she lives with yuki, this instinct fire up & she provides care, nurture, support & worry lots abt him since she knows the sohma’s abuse. Their dynamics need to change as yuki is starting to depend on himself as equal leaving tohu’s nest, tohru needs to accept his change & support him differently from before. The analogy of yuki leaving the nest is also fitting of tohru’s need to focus on herself since her nest is now empty. Tohru has also been using her motherly care for others to avoid working/focusing on herself. I find it ironic that Arisa’s “ tohru come convince kyo, he doesn’t wanna be a prince” comes as tohru & yuki acknowledge the need of a modified dynamics between them & she sends him off with her “ do your best” instead of her usual “don’t overwork yourself”. She leaves him to go to kyo/her own personal life that she needs to focus on.

-The Endless Parallels:

As yuki is starting to open his lid to his pal, the focus is shifted to machi! I’m happy she’s back. Similar to kyo’s apology into tohru’s ears in Se01, machi was given the questionable behavior without explanation treatment to hook viewers & I’m hooked! I know I’ll love this girl. It was pretty clear that her & kakeru are yuki exclusive characters & if he’s the best buddy, she’s the love interest. To connect her with yuki, certain good parallels were hinted at from the beginning:

She always leaves a mess behind, yuki lives in a messy room.

She has to have traumatizing background in order to make her need yuki in her life cuz part of yuki’s wishes is to provide for someone who needs him the way kyo provides for tohru. Yuki is ready to give back, now that he’s healing. Machi is yuki’s person.

Her coping mechanism is a bit similar to yuki in SE01, she shuts herself from others, doesn’t talk much & is withdrawn. I love that they both have somewhat similar coping  mechanism regardless of the nature of heir trauma, it makes them both less ashamed of what they adopted to cope regardless if it’s wrong/harmful. 

 She has low self esteem & is shocked when someone notices her, very lonely which is why she noticed yuki’s loneliness since Day 1.

She saw through yuki’s resistance of his “prince” title. She’s perceptive in nature just like him.

She looks physically more similar to yuki than she’s to kakeru, her brother, (yuki’s family grayish hair/his mom’s /ayame’s long eyes). Not really fond of that, but no harm, I think it was done so she & yuki will have similar aesthetic & have similar color shades.

All these are amazing parallels above help connect characters together & build relationships. However, I’m kinda annoyed that the writer went over board with the parallels, to the point of semi-exact situation:

Machi & Kakeru are siblings who were not close at all due to abusive family attitude. Exactly Similar to: Ayame & Yuki.

Kakeru is the older brother & was able to stop his abuse cuz of his character or extreme behavior that saved him from being caged into the family’s grasp while machi, the younger, was unable to escape & isn’t free yet. Exactly Similar to: Ayame & Yuki. 

Kakeru, the eldest, is trying hard to reach out to his sibling & aid her as much as he can but fails due to his insensitive character or his failure to see where she stands. Exactly Similar to: Ayame & Yuki. 

In their relationship, kakeru is the extreme, bubbly & bigger than life character while machi is the vulnerable, silent, withdrawn one. Exactly Similar to: Ayame & Yuki. 

This is a ton load of parallels that is not much needed to make machi suitable for yuki. I know that the writer is aware that machi is introduced late into the story, & is eager to flesh her out to be loved, but I don’t think that adding all these similarities to yuki’s life is the way to go. In the contrary, it makes her seem like a female version of him without the curse. Machi should be fascinating without yuki or kakeru. I guess making her kakeru’s sister helps create situations of yuki knowing more abt her without her talking & can be used to redeem kakeru’s character if he was ever harsh to her the way ayame was cuz you bet kakeru will play matchmaker. but overall, it takes uniqueness from machi’s situation herself & draws more attention towards yuki & kakeru. More focus on what will yuki & kakeru do. I really love her form the few things I saw abt her & her reactions, but yeah, don’t mind me~ it was a fleeting feeling of disappointment. Oh well, it is what it is. I hope her own perspective of her situation is rewarding.

-Machi is NO weak woman:

She really isn’t! She took control of the situation when she noticed it needed quick intervention. That’s why, the first set of 6 parallels mentioned above is important for machi! She saw through yuki without needing to know abt the exact similarities of their abusive homes. You don’t need all that to see through someone who was in the darkness for years, cuz she too, must’ve been in the darkness as well! So, in unique fashion, she comes & destroys yuki’s walls. Don’t worry, I’ll save you. I see you.

-Cinderella ( what??):

I didn’t expect elementary school fairly tale to be chosen & I sure didn’t see the cast choices coming! XD I’m sure sth will happen & they’ll change cast. but It’s 100% awesomely spot on in a reversed manner!! So Ironic!

Yuki godmother means yuki in female dress???? similar to SE01, Momiji ep! poor yuki! plus godmother is a nonhuman character that is superior & grants wishes & yuki is considered stronger than normal human without training & despite weak health, all his skills are always extraordinary. But maybe becuz he’s nearly done healing/opening the lid, he’ll help the others now, godmother style. XD

Tohru is evil stepsister?? Tohru is kindness reincarnated! but perhaps tohru needs a hint of evilness to wake up for herself & be more assertive! plus tohru is considered evil by yuki’s fan club (there’s an entire ep dedicated for that lol).

Hana Cinderella?? The queen of darkness & eerie wave reports who can see right through humans will play the weak, powerless Cinderella. XD. But it suits her cuz she was once called witch when in reality she’s kind.

Arisa a prince! the woman who wants to be a model & is desperate to turn kureno’s head with her womanly charms & is dying for a kiss from him in their first meeting! XD. but it suits her as she used to be a gangster? XD.

Kyo the prince?! the most un-princely prince! kyo’s kindness & warmth is exclusive to kazuma & tohru, the rest of the world sees him as the always annoyed, easily teased, harmless dude! Princes are diplomatic with their words! kyo’s life would be over in a second if it depended on his words! XD. He depends on his physical body & actions to show affection & love. You want him to be shower girls with compliments the way princes do?XD. but it suits him in a way, cuz he stole the main female protagonist’s heart like in all fairy tales & he’s genuine with his affection. XD.

I want Cinderella play NOW! plz don’t change the cast!!

Side Note:

The ep started with yuki’s statement abt what he wants from tohru, however, failed to deliver an answer by the end. It is obvious that (a) the answer will be given once yuki explains himself (b) a tease to hook the viewers into waiting for yuki’s answer. However, it was badly done. Rather than giving anticipation, it gave a disappointing feel. It dragged a genuine & vulnerable moment for the entire ep for cheap hook by the end. It can be completely avoided by not opening the ep with yuki’s lines. The thrill/anticipation would’ve come 10 times stronger with his closing lines leaving viewers with “OMG, he’ll say it next ep!! rather than “ what? i was waiting for that all ep? man~, next ep perhaps?”. I duno what is the nature of the manga chapters. but there are times when it’s so clear to me (an anime-only) when the show adapts things via direct cut & paste rather than working them to suit the ep format. Generally, the show doesn’t know how to implement cliffhangers, so I really wish they avoid them altogether.

From the way he handled machi’s apology to his firmness with the chibi member, to his elaborated speech with kakeru, to his calmness inside the locked room & how the flashback didn’t affect him as much as I thought it would! yuki’s growth is 90% complete! =D! You go boy!

I gotta confess..I’m slightly disappointed that kakeru turned out to be another abuse survival child. I was loving the idea that yuki is connecting with someone via their own character/personality not shared past of similar experiences cuz there are TONS of those in furuba. Kakeru’s character with (mix kyo-ayame) & virtues/vices is a good balance for yuki, adding the abusive past is hinting that broken kids only befriends broken kids which isn’t true. Plus this means that all young characters “with importance to the plot” must be abused one way or another... I know furuba has a theme..but you don’t have to make it part of every important character. I still love kakeru tho. but if kimi turned out to be ANOTHER abused child, I’m quitting furuba! XD..jokes..

Thoughts on Fruits Basket 2019 2nd Season Ep20 [”Are You Okay?”]:

After a few episodes of distilled pain, things are now moving back into fun high-school hijinks as Yuki continues to slowly grow as a person, and thing get more fleshed out with the student council.

Also wow I just realized that there’s only like five episodes left for this season, lol.

Anyway, thoughts under the cut.

Going along with how the last episode moved things around a bit in order to focus more specifically on Tohru and Rin, this episode covered chapters 81 and 83 in order to focus pretty much entirely on Yuki and the student council. Which I think helped make the pacing a bit smoother than it was in the manga.

Funnily enough, even though this episode technically adapted less than two full chapters because of how a little bit of chapter 81 was adapted last week, this episode still felt really long. Not in a bad way, though. It’s just kinda surprising that it felt so long even though they didn’t even add anything to it. At first I thought the stuff about deciding the roles for the play was moved up from a few chapters later in the manga, but after checking it again this is actually where it happened originally.

Either way, this episode was a lot lighter than the last couple, and mostly just serves to set up for the next couple of episodes and give us some emotional downtime after the whole Rin arc, but there’s still developments and reveals in it.

Mainly, this is where we start actually learning about Kakeru and Machi’s whole backstory together, and the fact that they’re siblings. Which really just reminds me how little I’ve cared for this whole part of them as characters, lol. Thankfully I haven’t seen anyone dislike it yet, but I still feel like it’s kinda tacked on and unnecessary, at least for Kakeru. It explains his whole attitude, but it still kinda feels completely unrelated to him as a character in practice. Though tbh my opinion on this is also kinda tainted by how even more tacked on the stuff later on with his whole history with Tohru was. They don’t really have anything to do with each other, but it kinda just leaves me not liking anything about his backstory, lol.

At least Machi gets to have her moment to be a badass and beat down a door with a chair.

Yuki’s also continuing to develop, but basically this whole episode was setting up for the big backstory section we’re gonna get next week, so not as much really happened with him here.

He had a nice moment with Kakeru where they bonded a bit over their family troubles, but I still kinda feel like Yuki’s whole message there was a bit unintentionally depressing. Maybe it’s just because of how notably extreme all the abuse and neglect in the Soma family is, but it doesn’t really feel like “oh well, we’re stuck with each other, what can you do :)” is super appropriate, lol. I more or less agree with what he’s trying to say, but in the wider context of the show as a whole it feels kinda uncomfortably defeatist. It probably doesn’t help that Kyo’s going through his own whole process of straight up resigning himself to a fate of imprisonment at the hands of his family.

I do still really like the whole bit about Yuki pointing out how unhelpful it is to just have Machi say she’ll never do anything destructive again and leave it at that, though. I’m not entirely sure how to put it, but it reminds me a lot of various experiences I had when I was younger, mainly in school.

Anyway, this episode was pretty 1:1 with it’s adaptation so there’s not a whole lot to talk about there, but I think it’s interesting how they cut off Yuki’s monologue at the end halfway through, so it doesn’t actually spell out the fact that he views Tohru as a mother figure like in the manga.

On the one hand I think it’s nice that they’re a bit more indirect about it, and they let the viewer fill in the blanks for themselves, especially since with how this episode started it’s pretty obvious even to an anime-only viewer what he’s trying to say. But on the other hand I think they probably just did this to remove some of the redundancy it’d cause to go straight from that into an entire episode going over Yuki’s backstory and explaining why he views Tohru that way. If they end the next episode where I think they will, it’ll also end on another line of him talking about how she’s a mother figure to him, so they probably didn’t want to be too repetitive with it.

I haven’t really thought much over the last few weeks about how I expect the rest of the season to be paced out, but now that we’ve only got around five episodes left I may as well lay some of my speculation out, lol.

I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the next three episodes will adapt the next six chapters, ending at chapter 89, which is the end of the whole Cinderella arc. I think that’ll work out pretty neatly, and continue the whole pattern of them adapting two chapters per episode on average.

I’m way less sure about how they’ll handle the last two episodes of the season, though. In the manga, we get the Kyoko backstory arc after that, and since that’s four chapters long it could easily cover the last two episodes [and it wouldn’t be the first time they spent two episodes on a backstory arc], but I’m just not sure if they’ll want to end the season off with that arc, or if they might move things around so that they end it on a different scene, and the Kyoko backstory stuff happens at the start of season 3 instead. I guess it’s entirely possible they might just stick to the manga’s pacing and end season 2 off with that arc, but who knows.

One way or another, after all that we’ll get into season 3, and that’s when I really start being less sure about how the adaptation will play things out. Mainly because my memory of the whole final third of the manga is way more foggy, lol. But I feel like it’s also where the story becomes notably more ‘free-flowing’ with it’s pacing, and there’s fairly big chunks of the story that cover a relatively small period of time, so in a lot of ways the pacing changes a fair bit at that point, and it makes it kinda hard to tell how season 3 will work.

Also there’s the fact that once this season is done, there’ll probably be around 43 chapters left for season 3 to adapt, which means that they’d probably have to either slow down the pacing at some points or add in original content, since if they stick to the two chapters per episode pace they’ve been following on average thus far, then that’d lead to 22 episodes of content [taking into account how the final chapter is twice as long as a usual chapter]. It’s possible they could try and do it was a 1-cour season instead, but that’d probably just feel rushed. I just kinda worry that season 3 might end up feeling dragged out if they spend multiple episodes only adapting one chapter at a time, or if they do some entirely anime-original stuff.

But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, lol. At this point I have faith that they know exactly what they’re doing, but it’s hard not to be a bit worried.

Sure, the job’s a bore at times and I really only got hired for my looks and not my now-useless biology degree, but it pays well and I get a lot of time off to do the things I actually enjoy! Why did your last relationship end?

“Again, if we’re talking longer term, he wanted to get more serious and I realized that it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I was 19 and I still wanted to experience so much before getting cuffed. He really didn't take it well, so kinda safe to say I dodged a bullet on that one.”

What are you looking for in a relationship?

“If I had to be in one? I would want the other person to know and respect that I’m not going to be tied down for the rest of time. The whole “open relationship” thing is a standard I like to set with my long term hookups, and I would like that to apply here as well. Also, they should be hot. “Okay, I guess this is where I come clean. Well, to the producers at least. So, basically, for the last few months, our shows ratings and viewership have been dropping. Our analytics team looked into it, and we’re pretty sure it’s because of that Simstagram News update. Instead of watching the actual news, people are going there because it’s quicker and easier to get info. So one day, Victor comes up to me and is all like “I’ve got an idea and I need your help”, which is already fishy because that’s basically code for “I need to use your looks to get the show traction”. So I go into his office and he brings up the Love Island Application. And, like, at first I’m hesitant because I work in showbiz, right? I know how reality tv stars get perceived by the public. But then I realized that if the studio tanks, I’ll no longer have a job, which like, major bummer. So I say yes!

In the end, I’m here to stir up drama and look cute on camera, all as bait for people to come and watch live news. Of course, I get the added benefit of a longer segment on the show, and a boost in Simstagram followers! So it’s really a win-win! Honestly, I probably would have applied anyway, if I had seen the casting call before Victor showed it to me. A bunch of hot guys, hookups, and more drama than a Kardashian-Jenner Simstagram comment section? That’s basically my dream life! And hey, who knows? Maybe I’ll finally get a tan!”
