just realized that the link and zelda weirdness levels are pretty much the same in botw and totk. DON'T. suncode daisuke. it's tempting and him giving off light or his own radiance is true but hes actually star coded. venus coded, even. dark is the evening star; daisuke is the morning star. <- historically they were sometimes mistaken for two separate entities but they're both actually the same single star (venus). the sun is too strong of symbolism for daisuke. he doesn't have that proper vibrancy. he's comfortable in the dark and prefers it; he's also enshrouded by so many forms of passive death and dwells essentially in the same desolate ruins that dark does. on top of this all part of his whole phantom thief shtick is basically (ironically) keeping people happy or inspiring + fostering certain hopes and dreams, it's literally part of what his grandpa tells him while they're looking up at the night sky together. dai cant do a sun moon dichotomy but he absolutely can be ur morning star ur little lucifer ur sweet loving venus child who keeps you company either at daybreak or nightfall. there in brief spans but always wanting to be by ur side!

Things I think would be really interesting to explore regarding the idea of Mackenzie being an adopted member of someone's family:

Border collies are built for two things: Agility and endurance. Being adopted into a breed/species that isn't accustomed to that would be a definite challenge, because it's likely that they wouldn't be able to match the amount of energy Mackenzie has. Even as a toddler, it may prove difficult to settle him down for a nap just because he has so much play in his system.

Because border collies are an extremely smart breed, child locks might not work the way as intended and Mackenzie might figure them out quickly. If he wants things a certain way, he has the capability to get around obstacles, which will land him in trouble.

Being herding dogs, he probably will want things a certain way, at least in an organizational sense. His toys have to be grouped together and organized, and all have to be accounted for. His food has to be grouped a certain way. His entire room has to be just the way he's organized it — Which, to an outside perspective, may not be the correct way to keep it clean.
