Another Day, Another Fanny Chapter...

Well that sure was fucking something huh? I promised I'd at least start talking about IM chapters on here instead of keeping it strictly to the discord server so here I am. Though most of this I already said, I don't mind going over it again, since I feel like I can better organize my thoughts on this.

Also there's no word limit, which is also great.

MY THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 348: RABBIT REFLECTIONS

So to start, let's rip the bandaid off and just say that everything Fanny said to Vicious in this chapter was bullshit.

At this point in the story with how Fanny has been acting around Cuphead I hope I don't need to specify how Fanny is in love with Cuphead when there's just too much evidence to support it. She kissed him because she wanted to kiss him, not because she was trying to see what kind of lowdown man he was. If Fanny had truly believed that, she would have confronted him about it long ago, but she didn't and we know why. And on some level, I think she knows why, too.

I think it's much easier for a reader to imagine this chapter as a conversation Fanny is having with her conscious. Saying something like this:

Is not her responding to Vicious but to her own thoughts that weigh on her. That kiss has been on her mind for about a week. And her reasoning behind it has changed even moreso. This is her settling on a final conclusion. This is her convincing herself of her own convictions. Of her worldview. That what she did was right, that she didn't ruin something good because it was never good to begin with. So that she doesn't have to confront that ugly realization in the pit of her stomach.

That Cuphead doesn't love her the way she loves him.

That last part specifically. Let's look back at the screenshot yeah?

-"She could almost see Oswald's glare. It was all the same dance. A carousel of pain and betrayal, around and around."

It's a strange thing, isn't it? To bring up Oswald. To equate Oswald to her current situation with Cuphead. Because that is essentially what she's doing, isn't it? It may seem odd, but I do have a reason for why she's thinking that.

Rejection.

Oswald broke up with her and moved on with his life, and Cuphead literally ran from her. Literally the only thing they have in common here, is the fact that they rejected her. But there's another thing too.

"No, she shouldn’t complain. She was lucky she’d found a man with a decent job. Little fights like these weren’t going to end it all for them. Besides, it wasn’t like marriage was about love and all that stardust. She had tried that avenue, and it had ended in heartbreak. Definitely not worth it. Dumb rabbit." (Chapter 74)

The bold is obviously about Oswald. Now compare that to now. Do you see what I mean? She fell in love again, and she got hurt in the process. Nevermind that in both these scenarios the men were also hurt. Especially Cuphead who trusted her and from his perspective, probably assumed she planned on using him for her own needs. Just like Meg. Just like Natasha. And in that way it's very interesting the wording she's using to describe Cuphead, and also Oswald for that matter, rejecting her.

Pain and betrayal. Very edgy, it's giving listening to that one slowed down piano version of Numb that everybody made fandom AMVs to back in the 2000s.

But seriously, why those words? It's a betrayal that Cuphead wasn't interested in the same way she is? Painful sure, that's kind of how rejection works, but betrayal really?

Or.

Is it a betrayal to herself? Thinking of certain aspects of this chapter as Fanny talking to her conscious would definitely lead me to believe that that's partially what it is. She'd already tried the avenue of love twice and it's ended poorly for her, so why did she do it again when she said she wouldn't. Why now, and why with someone like...like him? Like Cuphead? It's absurd in her head. It's something she can't make sense of. Doesn't want to make sense of it either.

So the betrayal could be referring to herself. But, I also think it could be something else, too. But for me to talk about that I have to talk about Oswald and Fanny's relationship because even after a disastrous break up they just can't stay away from each other~

So even though we don't have a lot of context for their relationship, I'm going to go off on a hypothetical that the "betrayal" in regards to Oz is that he offered Fanny (either literally or just like, the idea of the relationship with him gave her that impression) a way out of the dark. From chapter 327 that her home life wasn't great, and she doesn't seem to have any high opinion of her parents at all. Even the mere suggestion of going back home after her break up with Oswald seemed like a worse fate to Fanny than being homeless.

Oswald betrayed her because he was her first love, and also because she was supposed to be living the good life with him. They were supposed to be together forever, but then he broke up with her and next thing Fanny's hearing he's got a successful career and a beautiful wife and kids. She left everything behind for this man only for it to turn out like this. In some ways I can kind of understand what she means. But then she applies this to Cuphead and it's a bit stranger.

Because Cuphead never did anything other than offer her friendship and nothing more. Of course, at the beginning, Cuphead did have a crush on her, but by the end of the Wonderful Winter book he's basically over it. But then I think back to that book specifically, and I think about their interactions throughout and wonder if the betrayal is because Fanny misconstrued everything about their relationship because of how he'd previously acted. Is it the case, that Fanny thought they were both in the same boat, using each other as a form of escapism. She even calls Cuphead out for this at one point and makes an observation about it. Did she think it was the same for him as it was for her? That the feelings were mutual?

And, okay I actually can't blame her for that part. Look, no matter how you slice it, Fanny and Cuphead were just straight up flirting with each other in the early chapters. Not to mention Cuphead asking to take Fanny out to dinner? The Christmas group date? The aftermath?

At the beginning, there may have been mutual feelings of attraction sure but things have changed since then. And even though Cuphead put aside his feelings for her for good, if Fanny had shown any form of reciprocity then maybe things could have changed, but she didn't. But even still it doesn't really explain how Cup could have betrayed her. It stumps me and I've had a good nap to think it through and it's still confusing.

About the Cuphead show!!

Oh boy, this is going to be looooong

I remember when the game was popular and people were talking about it, but I didn't pay much attention 'cause it wasn't my interest back then, but now with the new episodes on Netflix and the DLC, i decided to give the franchise a chance, and man! The characters are so cute, and fun! I love how they tried to adapt the story from the game, but with lighter aspects (such as change the the way Cuphead loses his soul to the devil, making him lose it in a carnival game reather than a casino bet bc of that "it wouldn't be a good message to the children" shit, and also casinos are illegal in some countries so...) and i love how the show is an opportunity to flesh out the characters and their dynamics with each other.

Speaking of dynamics, I'm going to highlight Henchman's relationship with the Devil and KD here. I absolutely love how he's always trying to calm his boss down, and it feels like he doesn't do that just because it's his job, it feels like he really cares about the Devil's well being. When the Devil was in a bad mood because of his critiques, Henchman new exactly what to say to make him feel bettter and even adviced him to go out and fuck some shit up, whilling to listen everything with joy when he comes back. And you could say "oh he only does that 'cause that's what he's suppose to". NAH DUDE! He even cares for King Dice's well being, like when he dragged KD behind the rock to prottect him from the flames of the Devil's rage episode. Like, he can sense when his boss is about to lose it and knows things can get pretty ugly so he antecipates like "dude take cover, boss is mad!". And the fact that he was worried before the Devil drags Mugman to hell I-

Talking about the end of the season, people said that it was better than S1a which I agree and you know why? Because it change the status quo of the chracters. We all know the standard dynamic is the cup bros vs the Devil. Chuphead does something stupid, the Devil tries to take his soul, Mugman comes up with a plan to escape his grasp. It's important for the bros to stay together, but as everyone could see, they weren't exactly in tune for this batch. And i actualy like that! it builds tension between the brothers so when the Devil kidnaps Mugman, it hurts even more knowing that Cuphead whould probably feel like shit after that. At the same time that i was like "yeah, thats what you get for being such a prick to your brother!" I also couldn't help but feel sorry for him. His expession and the way he says "Mugman?" finaly realising the big mistake he's made... Dude, i can't! It was the best way to end the season!

Now I wanna talk about the cup bros and Chalice dynamic and this can get into a ship-y territory so beware.

First, Chuphead and Chalice. Man, where do I sart with these two... I adore how Cuphead can see that chalice uses her charm as a way to get what she wants, and actualy admires this in her. He tries too act cool around her to get her attention, and once she agrees to help them get the cookies, he immediately considers her as a friend and proceeds to defend her, even after mugman points out that they went to prision because of her, and that she could be lying about the angry mob. He still likes to have her around, and I bet that after he found out she was half ghost he admires her even more now, besides his mischevious personalty goes well with her sly behavior, I can see those two planning the craziest shit just for the sake of adventure.

As for Mugman and Chalice, I love that at first he´s kinda shy, but honest to her unlike Cuphead that wanted to paint himself as someone cool for her, Mugman takes the approach of telling the truth and admitting they just wnated to hang out, because beside him also seeing her manipulative behavior, thought she was a nice person. But of course he would be taken aback after she ditched them when the cops showed up. So much that he was still bitter about it when she came back. He felt betrayed by that, but changed his mind when saw her sad for having to go away, and deal with the angry mob by herself. I think it's partly because he related to her at that moment, as he stated earlier "it was nice not being alone for a while".

But yeah this show has some great potential and i'll talk more about soon bc i just can't get enough.

Brineybeard using binoculars looked at her direction. He recognized her.

He had finally spotted her and he could have his revenge.. His ship came closer, an evil smirk on his face, the breeze caressed his face.

Mugman let go of Cala's hand. He felt something....perilous looming. He looked behind him. He let go of her waist and climbed in the boat so he could take a better look. A ship appeared, that was clearly Brineybeard's ship... But... What was he doing here?

Cala looked at Mugman "Mugman? Is everything okay?" she asked. Mugman said "Isn't that Brineybeard's ship?". She looked at the direction he was seeing. "Yes.. What is this bastard doing here?" she asked angrily yet concerned.. She didn't want to risk Mugman's life. «Drat! Can't I enjoy a moment with my man in peace for once...?» she thought.

However, she sensed that this time something bad is gonna happen..

Mugman heard the sound of something being fired..  He had seen the arrow coming.. Cala hadn't.. "LOOK OUT!!" He pushed her out of the way and the arrow scratched his arm. A few drops of blood fell.. Inside the sea. He held his forearm and squeezed his eyes shut  "ARGH!!" Mugman clenched his teeth.

Cala  came out of the sea "Mugman?! Wha.." She said. Then she noticed the blood "Mugman let me see!" she said trying to stay calm. On the inside he wanted to rip that pirate's head of his neck... How dare he?..

Mugman removed his other hand and let her see the wound. "It's just a scratch.. Don't worry... Are you okay?" he said.

"Yes I'm fine thank you!" she said..

....

However a net was thrown and caught Cala. "What the-?!" She shrieked and mugman tried to help her. "Mugman?!" she yelled. "MUGMAN?!" she screamed trying to break free from  her captor,

Cuphead said "I worry about Mugman.. What if something bad happened to him?"

Dice's eyes softened.. " It's gonna be okay Cuphead... Medea(*) gave me this in case something bad happens" he pulled out a small bottle with a blue substance.

Brineybeard pulled up the net.  "Finally gotcha you little bitch!" He threw her violently on the floor, went behind her and held her violently on the ground. He tied her, grabbed her hair and brought his face close to hers. "For years I've been waiting for this moment! Its all your fault I lost my crew and my legs! You have the eyes and beauty of an angel but its time to show people the true demon within you! You sea witch! I will kill you and your blood shall be justice for me and my crew!! You can fool  anyone you want! BUT I won't be fooled twice! " he spat venom in his voice.

Mugman, who had  climbed from the ropes in the ship, carefully walked behind him.

Brineybeard was about to kill her. He raised his blade and her green eyes reflected on the blade "Finally I got you.. you fucking witch!" she closed her eyes waiting for the inevitable.

*WHOOSH *

*CLANK*

Mugman had found a sword on the deck and took it to block the attack "what?! Who dares?!" Brineybeard said clenching his teeth in anger 💢 "Leave my love alone!" Mugman said determination in his eyes! "Get out of the way kid! You don't know with what you are messing!" Mugman held his ground "over my dead body you will hurt her!"

Brineybeard smiled "which is exactly what I'm going to do!"

Mugman fought with him.  Their swords collided "You wanna play the hero kid? You are nothing without your powers! Indeed you stopped me once... Years ago... Now you are nothing!

NOTHING BUT

A MORTAL!"

... That's it.. Brineybeard you said a forbidden word...

Their swords collided, Mugman jumped out of the way. The sword hit the wood resulting in it to be stuck. Mugman found the chance and hit Brineybeard on the back of his head sending him unconscious. He ran next to her, he freed her "You okay?" he asked. She nodded. Brineybeard came around,

He took his sword and slowly sneaked behind Mugman. He raised the blade and stabbed him. Noone had the chance to react...

Mugman's eyes widen in shock as the blade pierced his porcelain chest. "GAH! *GASP *. His mouth opened his eye widen in shock, Cala covered her mouth in shock some of his blood was spilled on her face.

Mugman held the blade. His blood oozed. His chest heaved and  brineybeard whispered in his ear " I'VE BEEN WAITING TOO LONG FOR MY REVENGE!! MUGBOY I. WON'T. LET. YOU. RUIN IT! ".  He then threw him across the ship.  Mugman fell down and laid on the deck his blood oozed creating a puddle beneath him.

His shirt and vest darkened. He gasped for air, *.. hack... hack ... ha..ck..h..a..c..k..* his eyes laid on Cala..

He stretched his hand.. However his strength abandoned him and soon he went slack.. Darkness embraced him..

«I don't want to die... I... I... Cala.. Cuphead... Help me... I don't want to die... I... I..» he thought and everything went dark.

Tag Fact #3 -  I’ve come to realize I’ve always been a fan artist more than I thought. so here is a timeline of influences that shaped my childhood to now. from nostalgic times, to sad changes, to great loss, to strange rises to fame and phases, to stepping stones and finally a laughing place. all the things that make up your favorite fan artist Tag.

1. Rayman (bumped into this in the year of 1999) was actually the first fandom (with crossovers) I bumped into when I was 9. although the internet wasn’t available at the time it was still fun to dwell in home amusements. I remember the storylines and the OC’s I made but they’re kind of embarrassing and it’s probably a good thing there was no internet. I’ve done fanart and comic crossovers of Rayman with Calvin and Hobbs and Nights Into Dreams, spinoffs of Sonic the Hedgehog OC’s, Yoshi with Pikachu, and the Pokemon/Digimon craze with OC’s and other Nintendo comic shorts. but the drawings and comics are long gone and disappeared in the garage in a backpack due to suspecting my sister’s dad accidentally throwing them away. years later towards the year 2018 (now 28), we decided to move to North Carolina and it was my chance to find them again. unfortunately the backpack was gone just like I suspected (my main stuff), but for some reason I found my Pokemon/Digimon fanart, a good batch of Super Mario drawings (vaguely remember doing these), my sister’s drawings and some other neighborhood kids’ drawings in a dirty box. I was partially happy I found something at least but it was the backpack I wanted the most. sometimes I regret not looking for the backpack (’cause I was too busy being a kid) but it’s alright, noone needs to see that shit anyway, ha ha. anyways, I recall being a fan of Rayman from 1999 ‘til 2002.

2. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (bumped into this in the year of 2003) my second fandom I bumped into when I was 12 going on 13. at the time, my sister and I both liked the Sonic The Hedgehog Franchise based on the Battle remake and ended up making our own secret fanart club that consisted of only us two members. she liked Sonic (and that was her boyfriend, ha ha) and I liked Knuckles (and he was my boyfriend, ha ha) and we were crazy in love about Shadow’s backstory. we listened to the game’s soundtracks as we drew fanart and comics after school and man, those were good times. however, as we grew older towards the year of 2005, we ended up having separate rooms and I believe it played a part in disconnecting on the same interest. then one day, I asked her why she wasn’t into Sonic anymore and she replied, “Because I grew up.” I was sad after that and slowly observed that she was influenced by the emo culture and the new friends she’s made. I was the only member of our little club for a little longer...but eventually I moved on too. I still have some surviving fanart we did together but it doesn’t mean shit anymore since she turned out to be an abusive mother from the last I’ve heard of her. 

3. Gorillaz (bumped into this in the year of 2006). as the Sonic years were at its end, I first heard the song “Feel Good Inc” on Music Choice and seeing the first image of them as displayed on this post (except the fan-made background doesn’t count since I can’t find the original artwork). this was my third fandom and later had proper access to the internet to the website I still currently use called DeviantArt. at first I liked 2D but eventually fell for Murdoc and developed a spiritual connection towards the character as obviously seen in my old fanart and rare photos of my devotion shrines on Valentine’s Day and his birthday every year. for the longest time since being a permanent fan from 2006-2017 (11 1/2 years) I had no knowledge that it was a political propaganda band and other realizations I don’t want to talk about. I only followed them because it was a cartoon and not the bullshit behind the musical project. the world I’ve built and support for them for all those 11 1/2 years shattered the fuck out of me and I just wanted to be left alone to find myself again, somehow. activity stopped on all my profiles, the flow of fanart stopped since I now cringe from the fan service and felt I was used for my talent. I didn’t want to be reminded of it all so I took down all my Gorillaz fanart and archived them for old followers’ nostalgia but also in the hopes they’ll be forgotten in my timeline. I ceased to exist in the fandom for huge personal reasons but it’s best to not say why. I know for sure that the fandom wonders what happened but it’s none of their business. THE END.

4. Waluigi (although I knew he’s been around since 2000 during childhood, I took deep interest once I revisited the character again in the year of December 2013). as silly as this sounds, when I revisited him again, the character was so bizarre that I ended up staying up 3 nights and 3 days in a row just looking all over the internet on everything about him and the questionable “hush-hush” absence of a backstory. despite there being no backstory he slowly gained a cult following and in many ways it’s a good thing. however, since the early 2010′s tension has been building up between Nintendo and its fans about him starring in a main game but everyone hasn’t fully gotten it in their heads that it’s not gonna happen. as long as Nintendo is in control of that, the fandom will not win, I’m sorry to say. on the other hand, if it’s going to be this way, then that’s what fanart and comic projects are for. as for me, I am doing my very best to get my comic project “Waluigi Land” going. again, I apologize if it’s taking very long to get Chapter 2 going if you’ve been keeping track but aha moments need to develop before I start permanent drawing (since concepts, character design and storyline needed improvement badly). as of right now I am still a Waluigi fan and I will not quit on him.

5. Turbo from Wreck-It-Ralph (although it debuted in 2012, I watched the movie two years later into the year 2014). for some bizarro reason, I had an unhealthy obsession with this character to the point where I dressed up as him for Halloween 2014. only 2 fanarts of him and the Turbo Twins exist on my profiles, mainly because my mind was more focused on just ‘thinking about him’ or ‘being him’ rather than drawing physical drawings. luckily, this supposed alleged fandom didn’t last long a little after Halloween so I chalk it up as a very short phase. to this day I don’t know what has gotten over me about him. the only thing I can think of now is that I think it’s because the character had yellow eyes and teeth but I don’t know. now that I think of it, that little fucker was ugly as hell and I STILL don’t know what had gotten over me. one day, my brother mentioned what that was about, and I said to him, “I don’t wanna talk about it.”

6. Undertale (although it debuted in 2015, I later took interest in it in 2016). It was all about Sans and Papyrus. I couldn’t get enough of the skeleton bros. eventually Toriel and Mettaton EX became my favorites but it took a long time to draw more of all 4 of them because I had other important things to do in my life plus I was still waiting for the next Gorillaz album to revive my imaginative juices (or so I thought). I really want to have this as one of my frequent fandoms but I just don’t have time for it anymore. it’s still in the back of my head to want to draw them but at this point I still have other better interests to be in. and besides, I’m lazy just like Sans.

7. Cuphead (June 28th, 2017 was the official day I called quits on the British-based band Gorillaz due to the bullshit behind it. since that date I was lost, had no inspiration to look forward to and no cartoon guy to make me smile...but lo and behold of the same year, I took an interest in playing the game Cuphead and man...that shit was a frightening exaggerated metaphor for being on that one drug (forgot the name though) and having sex at the same time but man that was the best fun I’ve had in years. I mean, it’s like, enemies are just so happy to murder you and that scared the shit outta me. and the facial exaggeration?....I think I should stop, ha ha. anyways, the Moldenhauers saved my ass from spiraling down, they have no clue. anyways, eventually I became a permanent fan of their work so to ease the hurt and erase my past from the G-fandom I had to re-wire my brain into a different cartoon category that’s a rather more American, so anything Toon related like Roger Rabbit, Felix the Cat or another favorite that’s a western-based cartoon makes me feel better, especially my new man .......King Dice <3 <3<3<3. however, there was something about this new fandom category I still didn’t quite understand until the date March 14th, 2020. I finally understood what it was but I feel I shouldn’t bring it up. anyways, Cuphead and anything western or rubber hose is my last stop in inspiration for the remaining years of my life. many say never say never but I believe I’ve found my laughing place and that’s all that matters.

Piano Demon Headcanons (3)

Alastor loves having him do his hair. The feeling of his hands running through his roots and the gentle strokes from his brush.

This mainly only happens for important events when Alastor wants to brush his hair back into a ponytail.

But on occasion Alastor will ask him to do his hair out of the blue even if it isn't messy when he wants to be spoiled.

He has complimented Alastor on how handsome he looks with his hair pulled back. Nothing too crazy but Alastor is reduced to a blushing smiley puddle everytime.

"Wow, Al! You look great!"

"That's nice, Charlie, dear."

"Hey, Al! Lookin' good! You gonna turn some poor saps tonight."

"Whatever you say, Angel."

"I guess you look nice."

"Bold of you to assume I care about your opinion of me, Vaggie, darling."

You can imagine Alastor's jealously knowing Stolas recieves some pampering during his and The Piano Demon's sleepovers concerning his hair.

I mean, Stolas has to go two hours giving the reindeer puppy dog eyes before he caves but still.

Him and Alastor have picked up on each other's habits, be it nervous ones or mundane ones.

The Piano Demon sometimes taps his foot in a rythm that mimics one of Alastor's favorite songs. He subconciously does this when he is feeling anxious. The rythm reminds him of Alastor and the association helps calm him. Though he is unaware he is even doing it a lot of the time.

Only Alastor knows the reason behind this. It fills him with pride.

Alastor will make a really sweet, extravaggent morning coffee with whip cream and toppings when he feels extra stressed and unfocused. Something The Piano Demon does when he is in some sort of block. This is a manifestation of the reindeer's habit of putting 100% into everything. When he can't do it in one area, he finds it cathartic to try it somewhere else until he can focus on the other.

Sometimes the other misfits will walk in on Alastor preparing this monster coffee.

"I thought you didn't like sweet stuff."

"I don't."

Very confusing for everyone. 

Alastor snaps out of his task only after he's done and sighs. He's done it again. 

He'll make himself a separate cup of coffee completely unsweetened and give the other one to his beloved who is most definitely glued to his piano already and practicing. He may dislike sweets but he dislikes wasting good food and drinks even more.

"You did it again?", he'd always ask, sipping the warm mug.

"Yes.", Alastor always answers, "You've infected me, Ol' Sport."

"......Sorry."

Alastor would always give him a kiss on the cheek to show he doesn't mean it. Even if the reindeer knows it's a joke, he sometimes gets self concious of his quirks. Alastor is having none of that.

The two are weirdos in their own way and love sharing their oddities that others struggle to understand.

Their habits bleed into other things as well and it's pretty funny watching these two overlords blackout on something they're doing or approach a task in a completely insane manner but have it work perfectly.

He loves video games.

Surprising?

Well, like I said, he is open to modern technology.

Though he certainly doesn't observe them for gameplay purposes. It's the soundtracks. He will be glued to the thing simply to analyze the music and the motivations behind the creator's use for each song and how it ties into the story and characters. It fasicnates him.

Seriously, watch this old man sit there and go into an endless lecture about musical theory while the game is playing.

He once finished Persona 5 in a day because he was so impressed by the music. He's old. He's so old, guys. 

Yes, he also managed to fit in piano practice during that time. Don't ask how that's possible.

He is still a very stoic, monotoned person so watching him do this is ten times more funny. He both looks and sounds so unethusiastic, all the time.

I think he'd like Cuphead. If for nothing else other than it reminding him of his time on Earth.

Story based video games are the only ones he'll look at as a result. Others aren't as mentally stimulating to him so he doesn't show an interest.

Yes, he does have a tail. He isn't ashamed of it but he keeps it hidden, for identity purposes.

If someone tries to touch him, he'd just let them fade through him or teleport a few feet away. A lot of people fall face first.

Angel has more headaches then he would like to admit.

He would care for an animal if he found one abandoned or injured.

Fat Nuggets follows him around sometimes and it baffles everyone, including Angel.

Though this does mean Angel asks him to babysit every once in a while. He doesn't mind.

He likes cold weather, I mean really cold. He finds it soothing and tranquil. Meanwhile, everyone is  begging for the torture to end.

He'll literally bliss out and lay on Alastor's shoulder if he's near while the others want to warm up so badly. Alastor will hunt whoever tries to find a solution for sport. He's adorable when he's like this.

When they were alive, he always listened in to Alastor's radio broadcast whenever he could.

Alastor often visited him along with Mimzy. He would wrap his arms around his shoulders as he played the piano, humming along.

"Ineffable Musical Deer Husbands" is their official title. Fight me.

He doesn't like seeing people cry but wouldn't be very emotionally receptive. It's hard for him to understand why someone is crying but he would try to calm them down as best as he could.

So I just finished watching Over The Garden Wall and I have many thoughts that I would like to share, in no particular order:

Beatrice is a whole Mood and I love her with all my heart but I NEED to know how she turned her entire family into birds please and thank you

Multiple times we get a twist of "oh you thought creepy evil stuff was going to happen but you thought wrong" or "evil stuff does happen except not like that" and I also loved that

Why did the woodsman think his daughter's soul was in the lantern? Was she actually dead? How did she appear at the end? Did the beast just say she was dead and the woodsman bought it? Did he even check on his daughter for however long he had the lantern? What?

I actually thought that the woodsman's daughter was human Beatrice for a second.

Did the dog that attacked Greg at the woodsman's home belong to Beatrice's family (dog shown after they all become human) because if so that's hilarious.

What The Genuine Fuck was up with the beast just. Randomly singing in the forest. Like yeah great song but why are you made of faces and grinding child trees into oil. Why is your soul in a lantern. Why did the woodsman need to fight you for the lantern if you were gonna give it to Wirt. Everything about the beast confuses me.

Overwhelming Darkwood vibes throughout the entire series. Trees consume you, there's a shadow thing in the forest, the people living in the forest sometimes look inexplicably weird and all of them fear the shadow thing. I was half expecting the wolf man to show up.

The ending felt a bit flat/anticlimactic to me. I was hoping for a little backstory or lore for the beast, but what can you do. Still enjoyed it.

Top Ten games of the 2010′s

This trend seems to be doing the rounds at the moment and seeing as I’ve been gaming for about as long as I can remember, It just feels right. So, let’s get into it. But first, worth saying: These aren't really in any specific order, it's just the games I've personally had the most fun with overall, but it's pretty hard to decide what the hard numbers on things you enjoy for different reasons are if that makes any sense. 10. The 2010's weren't exactly the best time for anyone, I think. For me they were a slog of finding myself and learning things I wish I didn't. Amid all those things I wanted some levity. The world needs something and stupid. We got a lot of it ion 2013 but I feel like we could have used it scattered around a bit more. In that spirit, allow me to show you one hell of a pick me up:

Saints Row 4

Saints Row 4 does not give a fuck. It is aggressively demonstrating that the entire time you play. It doesn't care in the slightest what you think or why, It just wants to show you cool, if juvenile, and interesting, if weird shit. It's the finer points of Ratchet and Clank's arsenal, SR3's humor, And superpowers that genuinely put Prototype and Infamous in a blender and tell you to go ape shit with them. The soundtrack isn't top shelf, it's the roof of the building the shelf is in. Saints Row Two had a better story overall but SR Four's was just plain fun and a solid enough story to still be invested.

The DLC was just as irreverent and madcap, Featuring everything from an evil Santa Clause to evil Gimps on Game of thrones chairs made of dildos Or Tropey-ass costumes and weapon reskins that I'd be genuinely surprised the game dev didn't get sued over. It has earned its place in my top 10 and I will die by that decision.

2016 saw the advent of a new genre. They blended TF2 and MOBAs, and we got hero shooters in their first AAA forms, Overwatch and Battleborn. But neither of these games is on this list, much as I liked them. Partly because the whole time, I kept thinking of one simple question: "Why do I keep thinking of...?"

Anarchy Reigns

Anarchy Reigns is my favorite Platinum game. Full Stop. The Story mode is interesting and has genuinely good character moments, the characters themselves are completely mental, ranging from a mercenary with a bionic cat leg that secretly has a gun built into it to a giant cyborg bull-man with a jet-powered hammer. The soundtrack is mostly angry hip-hop, making every song a banger and fittingly speedy for things like random bombing runs from jet fighters that come from absolutely nowhere.

There are giant monsters, cars with mounted flame throwers, giant robots, and the online is still pretty sweet because even when abandoned, loading it up with bots still rules. I regularly have more fun with this than I ever did with Overwatch, and I don't care how insane that sounds.

Some games want to make you feel something and fail. Some games make you feel some things accidentally, for example, a desperate need to laugh. This game made me feel like a human blender. Like a Chthonic god of mangled flesh and raw destructive power. Nyarlathotep ain't got nothing on me. I speak, of course, of...

[Prototype] 2

There's no end to the absolute destruction you feel like you're causing in this game. It feels more fluid than the first, the main character is a pinch more relatable, and all the body horror, superpowers, zombie hordes, and big old monsters make for some of the most memorable and fun moments and fights in gaming. The DLC is also pretty solid, adding new fun side challenges, and new powers and weapons that elevate you from "Flesh god" to "Screw physics, I made them" Omnipotent. Best god/monster simulation of all time.

Sometimes some games are at an honest tie in your mind. Be it that you like them for essentially the same reasons, or for completely different reasons, but the overall total joy or entertainment they bring is roughly equivalent. Here, we have a case of the former:

Furi/Cuphead

Both games have a tight focus on giving players a unique, boss-centric challenge, both have interesting, somewhat minimal narratives, and both are absolute eye candy.

Furi has a more "Samurai Jack" Quality to me. A complete badass on a relatively simple quest with a somewhat minimalistic art style learning some things as he goes.

Cuphead on the other hand, nails that rubber hose animation style, and the fun levity of such animations while still making the player's ability to interact with the world damn impactful and fun.

They share a spot in my soul, games I love everything about but will never be able to finish. Hats off to both dev teams.

Now here we have another tie. Mostly because the games are so close together, they need to be evaluated more or less as one product IMO, not enough changed for me to consider them separate games, fortunately, that is the furthest thing from an insult it can be in this situation. I present to you, my next pick(s).

Costume Quest 1/2

Now, This might seem pretty random considering my other picks, but honestly, I love Halloween, I love creative madness, I love subversion, I love good characters, and I love cool action, these games have all these things by the bucketload.

The first game is a wild ride through Halloween in multiple very lively locations and the second, slightly confusing as it is, is pretty awesome for the things it introduces, including time travel. Other elements, like the battle stamps, the truly epic forms of everything in the fights, The ability to customize your costumes, etc. they blur together in a pretty big way, but again, there's not a thing wrong with that when both games rock like crystal candy.

Now, if you hadn't noticed, all of the games on this list have had some hard action at their core, and while I don't HATE calmer games, a lot of the time, so many are kinda dull to me in that with the exception of easter eggs of some sort, most farming sims, for example, just have you doing normal farm stuff with very few twists, may as well start a real farm in that case. My most chill entry is a game that tosses that to one side, asks you to grab a suck cannon, and start harvesting gelatinous monster poop.

Slime Rancher

While you don't spend a lot of time actually interacting with other characters, they just talk at you, the story of the game is pretty effective, the player character of Beatrix has left Earth for a simpler life of Slime Ranching, which entails the raising of alien crops, delightfully derpy and colorful chickens, and going all around in an attempt to farm new breeds of slime for their genetic material to sell off or trade-in for the creation of gadgets while being surrounded by a cast of interesting characters. It's all very wholesome family fun.

The game looks great, has great ideas, and is genuinely the best farming game I have ever played. @ me all you want.

The 80's are almost fetishized nowadays. Given all the property reboots, games that go for the vibe and aesthetic of the time, etc. It almost seems as though the eighties vibe train ain't gonna stop rolling any time soon. But we owe it to ourselves to remember the first big swipe of madcap neon-colored actiony B-movie bullshit and how mind-meltingly epic it was. Ladies, Gents, and whatever else, I present:

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Blood Dragon's story is relatively simple, you play Sargent Rex "Power" Colt (A name said in full so many times I thought his last name was "Powercolt" for the longest time), a former "Omega force" cyborg. Rex and his friend "Spider" were sent into a secret island base to investigate the supposed defection and treachery of their old commander, Ike Sloan. It turns out he has gone rogue and taken an army of "Mark 5" Omegaforce cyber-soldiers with him. What follows is a long story of betrayal, science fiction of the highest nonsensical level, comedy, and brilliantly cathartic action.

The collectibles range from data on animals, to research notes from a scientist, to literal VHS cassette tapes that have full descriptions of movies that I would legitimately watch if I could. "You may now kill the brides" is not a real film and I am angry for every day that that is true. Anyway, play Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, I dunno if it's on PS4 but it's one game I'd buy a new/old console for.

A lot of superhero games NEED to railroad you. Your goals MUST be to save the lives of the people and help the weak and all that. But one dev asked the simple question: "What if it didn't?" "What if the player chose how to use their power? What if the player could be as evil or as good as they damn well pleased?" One game gave you the powers of thunder and lightning and asked what you'd do with it. It's sequel asked you the same, but against more... interesting forces.

InFamous 2

InFamous 2 is a game about making choices, just like the first one, also just like the first one, it can have an effect on gameplay. That effect went from "What does this particular power do in this allignment?" To "Which new set of NEW powers would you like?" The forces of the last game went from “Three flavors of gun-toting whackos” To “Possibly an allegory for the Klan, Swamp monsters, and Ice-powered super soldiers.”

This was, and still is, the best game in the whole series, The powers felt distinct from anything else and still do, the story is solid as a rock, and the enemy types were still varied enough to be interesting, I miss the Reapers from the first game, but that's about it. Everything else was a massive step up. If you have something that can run it, play it.

Action is something I think we can all appreciate on some level. We can understand when it does or does not work, we can understand when we do or do not like how it feels when we are the ones partaking in it. EX: Any schlep can tell you when the weapons in your game lack impact, or when your character moves too slow for the game to be fun. The following game is something I can't say anything of the sort about. And it's kind of like Wolfenstein, when you have enemies this bad, who the hell cares how many you kill?

Doom 2016

Y'all are lying if you say you didn't expect this one. It's DOOM 2016. This game is made of hate and fuck. AND I LOVE IT. You move so fast, you may as well be half cheetah and half sports car. You slaughter the dregs of hell by the dozens and even the biggest, baddest things this game throws at you can be beaten with the starting pistol if you have the stones for it. It looks amazing graphically, the demons all look appropriately threatening, and even the Multiplayer is a great deal of fun in my book.

Something worth noting: The story presented by default is pretty barebones, but that's where supplementary material fills in the gaps, the difference between supplementary material in most games and supplementary material here is the material is till IN THE GAME. You're free to ignore most of the plot as it happens around you, and even interesting tidbits of the lore like how certain demons function. Not only are these things missable collectibles, prompting continued play to find them, they are also pretty interesting reads. So yeah, just about everything you could want in a sequel/remake, builds the on lore and gameplay very organically.

And here we are, the last game I'd put in this category. An entire decade, and here, we end on the last game that left such an impact I'd put it in my top ten. But first, let's talk about expectations and delivery: When you say a game is coming out, there are certain expectations you have for gameplay, EX: I say "Ratchet and Clank" and you expect a TPS with platforming elements and crazy guns. I say "Gears of War" and people expect something to do with lumbering about in big armor, dismembering things with a chainsaw gun and otherwise shooting them to paste. We might also expect changes to things, better graphics, innovations in grenade variety, something as that franchise goes on.

After the last game in this series was released, there were tons of people who felt let down and disappointed by it. Then they released the still somewhat disappointing special edition of it. They were both still fun, but neither really felt like the full next step in the series. After a failed reboot, they returned to the original story and the lot of us rejoiced. And when it finally came out? It was a step up in most, if not, all regards, to its predecessors. You know what this last one is. Please, give a warm round of applause to:

Devil May Cry 5

A game that was not only a return to form, but a major escalation in gameplay for one character, and a new style of gameplay all together by way of yet another new character. It didn’t exactly hurt that the story kicked ten kinds of ass and that the game looked spectacular in both the design of everything and the actual graphical fidelity.DMC 5 is, like DOOM, Like InFamous 2, Like [PROTOTYPE] 2, everything you want in a good sequel. It built very well on already solid foundations and it was generally just a fun, slightly goofy, massively stylish, and ultra badass ride. I recommend this, and all these games, to anyone.Good night everyone, have a great 2020. And the rest of the decade, for that matter.

He was iffy about getting into JRPGs but then Virgil convinced him to play Persona 5 and he absolutely fell in love with the music!

TWILIGHT SPARKLE from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: i love all of the ponies in their own way and despite how much i abhor tara strong’s VA work twilight remains a top favorite. her anxiety and perfectionism show the downsides of her ardent studiousness, but dont portray her erudition in a negative light. a lot of cartoons i saw growing up always had an “egghead” nerdy character who was unpopular for doing well in school or caring about academia. while i know as an adult that it’s all essentially worthless it’s really affirming to see that pressure candidly portrayed while also not being totally dismissive of it. school was one of the only things i was ever good at, and twilight’s character shows both its heavy downsides and the ways in which it actually can be applied to the real world.

PEPPER ANN from Disney’s Pepper Ann: this show made me excited to attend middle school LMFAO because i related to pepper ann so much as a kid. much like twilight sparkle, PA is super neurotic but has an explosive, if not borderline delusional, imagination. she dressed and behaved like an actual kid, and plus she looked like me too. even in the 90s it was rare to see a kid with glasses that wasn’t shafted to the poindexter stereotype, especially a girl (e.g. Gretchen from the fellow Disney show Recess). i liked that she wasn’t feminine but also wasn’t a hard tomboy; she gave me space to feel like i was allowed to exist outside of that kind of gender binary (and especially her younger sister Moose blows all gender expectations out of the water).

HELLBOY from Hellboy: mike mignola’s art style has influenced a lot of my own. he’s a demon who chooses to be the good guy and that’s everything to me. he loves kitty cats and pancakes and punches nazis, and hellboy ii: the golden army is one of the best movies of all time.

Nails is a hapless anxious cop-spider who can barely load his own gun and looks like a predecessor to a Cuphead reject. plus he’s voiced by charlie adler so he’s got huge personality. funny spider guy

it’s a shame that jiang wen isn’t in more english speaking movies, and so westerners don’t see as much of him as i would like. his gravelly voice. he looks like he could protect/ruin me. i wish i was that cigarette.

taylor lautner was ok in the twilight movies, but lbw, his defining role was as sharkboy and the musical creation that he introduced as his lullaby song. i would pay a great deal of money to see hot, abbed, mature taylor lautner recreate this iconic scene.

{ I’ve had this request in AO3 and I took the opportunity to use one of those prompts so… I truly tried to do something fluff but the angst captured me in its web once again--- And I fucked up the number of words, but sometime it’s ok to write scrolls and I put a lot of effort in it, I hope someone will like this fict--   }

The ballroom teemed with guests coming from every part of Inkwell to eulogize and compliment the hero who saved the country by the diabolic menace of the Devil. None could have never believed a little cup like him could handle a quest like this. What was supposed to be a nightmare has become the most wonderful dream of his existence and he hoped he would have never woken up. What Cuphead truly desired, it came to life and he could not ask for something better. He had fame, fortune, persons who loved him and youth. All the things he conquered with blood and fatigue, without losing his hopes and determination even a moment. Seeing those smiles on the faces of the persons he helped made his soul filled with contentment. His new friends were applauding him, screaming his name as if he was a hero but he did not feel like this. He turned into a hero by mistake, because he was tricked by some infamous entities and his greed that was still present in his soul. Despite Cuphead possessed everything he could desire and all his dreams were fulfilled, that dissatisfaction did not abandon him because he did not obtain anything at all. When you owned a lot, you wanted so much more and it was never enough. It was his sin, his greed. His life was not golden and maybe he did not truly deserve all of this. No applause, smiles and compliments. Cuphead was egoist; he paid for his reckless actions, when he lost his mind and heart at the beginning of his adventure, playing those ingrates games of lust and madness. Victory after victory he thought he could have it all but luck came and went and sometimes even the greediest person had to learn when it was the right time to say stop. Learning how to be wiser even if he was just a child and he did not feel so wise neither now. He did not heal from his sins but maybe they were only mere preoccupations and he had to realize this situation yet. Everyone loved him but, actually, not everyone because in every war there were winners and losers, devastation and conquests. “He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight”, said the famous Sun Tzu and maybe Cuphead would have thought twice before deciding to start this war and a life lived in peace, with his brother and his Elder Kettle, would have been better but nobody could know because the folds of fate were limitless. Something was missed in his life and he could not understand which thing it was. The thrill of the adventure that ran under his ceramic skin, that made him feel alive. Just like the moment before you jumped from an airplane, a jump in the deep end, and you could die into the oblivion, or fly like a free bird in the infinite blue. The euphoria of risking his own life, it was the sensation he adored the most and he missed but he did not realize it at first. This was the original feeling that made all happened: if he would have not played those hazards, he would have never been a hero or started any adventure, and he would have never met him. For a moment, his ceramic became paler and his stomach was grumbling, he felt sick all of a sudden. An unexpected nausea took him by surprise; it was not a real sickness. The name of this strange feeling was melancholia. The absence of something precious, that was unsure but he had to find an answer to this enigma. Cuphead needed to leave this place as soon as possible because he understood that there were other demons to fight and he could not feel total satisfied if he hadn’t been seeing that person again. He felt a little worried and guilty for his actions, there was no reason to feel this way, and Cuphead did not confide this secret to his brother because it was something illogical. He was not supposed to have this sentiment, a masochist curiosity, it could be an undisclosed desire. Maybe it was just another sin. Life was an endless circle, just like the waves of the ocean that came back to the shore despite it was their last destination, he had to see that person for the last time and be sure about this feeling that was tormenting him. The place where it all began, The Devil’s Casino, was his destination and he wondered if it still existed after The Devil’s disappearance. Cuphead did not visit that place from his last battle and some weeks have passed from that occasion. He had no idea what happened to his owner and all the persons who worked there. Leaving this party was difficult but he found the way inventing some stupid excuse, since he felt sick so he said he needed a rest from all this chaos. Since he was a hero, nobody complained and all could understand he felt nervous during a big event like this. The night was cold and mysterious, and at nights, things appeared so different from their morning versions. Shadows and darkness gave to objects a strange personality, made of mystery and fear but it was also very romantic and lonely. Cuphed felt the same way; his thoughts were like this night, deep and eerie. The fresh air that caressed his face was washing away all those worries, but just for a minute, before the massive and suggestive edifice of the Casino appeared in front of his incredulous eyes. With his soft and undecided steps, he reached the great entrance, until the sound of a crowd towered over his thoughts, and all seemed just a dream. A dream made of sins and mistakes. A familiar place he thought he would have never reached again, it was still here as if nothing changed. These lost souls had no other places where they could go and maybe it could be considered their own home. It could be his own home as well if things wouldn’t have gone well. The moment he came inside, when he gained all the courage he needed, evil and bright eyes stared at him and he was not welcome here, not anymore. It seemed like they wanted to kill the little cup with their looks. Cuphead tried to ignore them because his destination was clear and his intentions were not hostile like the last time he was here. He searched for a person. For him, King Dice. Just like a thought, this last materialized himself, as if he heard Cuphead’s call. Did he read his mind? Dice did not seem so enthusiast of this visit even if by his expression nobody would say he was mad or annoyed, and that sinister smile has never left his face but Cuphead was not so stupid not to understand that his presence was not desired here.   «Look who’s here~», said Dice, and the little cup felt a shiver of fear caressing his spine. Suddenly, all the voices and the buzz of the demons who were laughing at Cuphead disappeared and none dared to speak in King’s presence. «I’d never bet ya’d come here. », and the last bet for the poor Dice did not go so well, and his honour was still bleeding but he was curious to hear what this little cup had to say. In the meantime, the said cup just nodded and Dice’s eyes intimidated him, it was as if the evil man was scanning his soul and maybe it was the truth. After some while of reflexion, Cuphead found the bravery to speak, « I’m here for the game, nothing else.», confessed Cuphead, trying to appear more secure than he could but the crowd of demons just laughed at him except Dice who kept staring at him with his green pupils. «Ya hadn’t learnt anythin’ by our last meet…», he just shook his shoulders, and the idea of taking possession of his soul was delicious and tempting. Something he could not deny and he could respect the courage of the little cup who decided to come here despite all the resentment everyone felt for him. «Ya’re lucky, I feel particularly generous today, no hard feelings between ya and me~», proclaimed the King, winking at Cuphead with malice and the cup boy was sure Dice had something in mind since he pretended to be friendly. The two of them shacked their hands and in that moment, when their hands touched, Cuphead felt like a shock and he lost himself observing the other’s eyes like if he was hypnotized and he was incapable to think rationally. In that moment he started regretting his decision to come here. «Anyway be glad, little cup. Ya’re speakin’ with the new boss here. I’m the one who manages the whole kit and caboodle. », by the pride in his voice, nobody could say he missed the Devil so much. At this revelation, Cuphead’s eyes opened because of his disbelief. «Oh, congratulations…», said Cuphead even if Dice took his wish like a joke, he chuckled, and then he nodded to follow him. Cuphead, without any hesitation, followed him like a loyal dog until the two of them disappeared into the darkness reaching another place of mysteries and depravities. «So… What’s the deal here? », the cordial smile Dice showed until then vanished just like Cuphead’s hope to get out of here safe and sound. «Oh, nothing… I was curious to see how you guys were doing…I guess…», explained Cuphead and his voice was so insecure and maybe it was not the truth he wanted to say, or the lie Dice wanted to hear. «Ya’re not a good liar, spill the beans, boy! », at his question, Cuphed’s head was filled with confusion and he realized his heart was beating so fast and he was sweating. It was not right, because it was sick but he had to say sometime before his mind exploded. «I’m here to play… I’ve already told you, I want to do a bet…», he nodded appearing sure and determinate and Dice looked at him with a suspicious amusement because this cup was too hilarious and it was impossible to be mad at him for real maybe it was the reason why he has not kicked him out yet. «Oh, and whatcha want to bet?», his eyes turned green again and all the environment was changing showing all the tables and poker games and everything seemed less disturbing than before. Cuphead did not know how to explain this sensation he felt but he realized something, he wanted to stay here. The Casino was his true home, here he found his true sense of living because he was a sinner, he knew it, and he was addicted to this game but, most of all, he was infatuated by this man. He was still content for his friends, they were happy now but he had to find his happiness, too. «If I win, I stay here…», this sentence took Dice by surprise and he could have never imagined Cuphead would have ever said something like this. He was unsure of what to think about it. Was it a joke? The usual mischievous grin appeared on his face and even if he hated losing bets maybe this time… «Ouch! That’s weird but I’m into it even if… Losing all those bets it’s not good for my reputation, don’t ya know?», having his soul was a very tempting offer and it seemed he would have won something and, at least, he could gain some money anyway. It was like the time stopped and they were so concentrate to the game that it seemed there were no other persons in this edifice. Cuphead was sure that Dice would have never let him win but this bet was different from the others because Cuphead was betting his own life this time and there was nothing more precious than that. The awaited moment was going to begin and Cuphead held in his hands the same little dice that brought him in that weird situation but it was the reason he was here and he hope his blind luck did not leave him. He concentrated all his positive thoughts to this launch and then the number that would come out would have been his salvation or his condemnation. Fate could be so paradoxical sometimes. At then, he launched his dice hoping to win… And lose his soul that would have been possessed by King. His heart was rolling too until… The time kept running and a smile showed up on his face and, strangely, even King Dice was not so mad for having lost this bet because the thing he obtained was priceless and, showing one of his alluring grin, he proclaimed, «Welcome Cup to your new home». King Dice started laughing in the maddest way while Cuphead’s view became blacker and blacker until the darkness covered his mind like a veil but he knew everything would have been fine when he woke.
