Against The Kitchen Floor (Will Wood)
And I swear! I will die trying!/I'm still in the process, but I'm making progress; I promise I honestly wanna prove improvement's possible, I swear!/I'm so fucking sorry! I'm not a good person, I'm barely a person at all, But someday I'll be perfect, and I'll make up for it all!
Less rare than scarce, less diamond then rough/Unlikely to be more than just the coal you failed to crush
I'm catatonic in your arms, crying, "How did I cause so much harm?"/I'm down pounding my head against the kitchen floor/Apologizing for my life and ever entering yours
The vertex of my redemption arc/I’m searching on that virgin heart
"The raw emotion! And I strongly relate to desperately wanting to improve for someone you love. I belt out this song when I feel really hopeless"
"my one OC. also me. also it's just a really good song. one of will's best imo. screaminbg"
"Literally hits almost all of my self-esteem issues. Feeling like people only care about you for your body? Check. Not understanding why anyone would want you? Check. Thinking that all you do is hurt people? Check. I don't cry very often but this song DEFINITELY made me teary"
"one of those if u aren’t paying attention to the lyrics ur like this is nice but once u hear them its an OW holy OW and guilt and I’m sorry feelings"
"Just. Loving someone but not feeling like you’re good enough and trying to improve."
"Not only does this song have lyrics that are deeply relatable to me, but this song also feels very deeply personal to the artist and I feel that anyone who listens to it for the first time has that same feeling of getting punched in the gut. Just the lyrics and the melody and Will Wood’s incredible vocals make this song an absolute masterpiece and I cry every time I hear it."
"One reason I'm attached to this song is because my friend sent it to me and said "I'm kin assigning you this song" and ruined my life (/j) It messed me up because I've always had a hard time in my life figuring myself out and dealing with my emotions, and for what feels like the first time, this song has been able to near perfectly describe how I feel about myself and my impact on other people, and it always just meant so much to me that my friend who sent it to me knows me better than I know myself and shared the song with me and I love them dearly."
Curses (Crane Wives)
Ashes, ashes, dust to dust/Tell me I am good enough/Lay my curses out to rest/
All my aching bones are trembling/And I may yet fall apart/Won't you stay with me, my darling/When the war starts in my heart?
Every word I say is kindling/But the smoke clears when you're around/Won't you stay with me, my darling/When my walls start burning down, down, down?
"The singer is falling apart but they'll still jam about it. They're trying so hard to get better, they're failing, and they need support even when recovery feels hopeless. It's a concept I haven't seen explored in a song before. Lots of songs are about someone relying on their partner for emotional support but none explore the darker side of the difficulty of carrying someone else's burdens. Also the clarinet fucks."
"One, is starts out with a jazzy clarinet. The instrumentals of the song is very dance-y. I love the destructive tone of the lyrics, the singer thinking they ruin everything and they're not worthy of love, but still begging You to stay"
"It’s asking for help when you’re at your lowest. It’s the emotion behind the words— it’s one of those songs where the singer puts weight and emphasis on certain lines. Makes the heart go ouughghhghghh. It’s the “duo who’s known each other for a long time and are driving out post-big time conflict” or “emotional climax where there’s no words, only action” scene type of song imo. Also there’s a mad clarinet solo and it’s really good"

comparing the writing in the first film overall with the writing of the Third so people can Hopefully see what my problem is with TBT.
first off lets start with the two films big emotional music numbers that are meant to showcase meaningful character Growth that being "" True Colours ""
youtube
youtube
and "" Better Place "" now the main Difference between these two is that despite what some negative reviews of the first film said at the time Branch's character Arc wasn't literally just wrapped up in this one song like Bro zone's was in TBT.
True Colours was the climax to Branch's arc but it wasn't literally the only piece of Branch's arc throughout the film we had small hints under his uncaring exterior that he was actually a good guy who just wasn't good at showing it.
like the fact he saved Poppy from those spiders and when he tried to help her come to terms with Creek's supposed death even if his way wasn't 100 percent perfect.
and of course after finally opening up about his grandmother he showed more signs of trying to change for the better helping Bridget by giving her his love poem to say to Gristle Jr.
afterwards attempting to join in on the Snack Pack's happy screaming over Creek still being alive and even pulling a little High five Joke on Poppy showing clear effort of attempts to change beforehand.
he also attempted to comfort Poppy and the others when they opened the locket and Creek was gone and they assumed he was dead and all this leading to True Colours which was the big moment for his Arc.
Bro zone didn't have any of this before hand instead all their moments prior to Better Place are either them being Jerky or its mostly comedic gags with not real flashes of posotive character moments for them that could help with their Arc.
anyway back to True Colours despite technically getting what he said he wanted at the start of the film ( that being for the other pop Trolls to finally stop seeing the world as all cupcakes and Rainbows and finally see the Dark sides of things )
he was actually disheartened to see them all this way and worked to help them get out of this state which he was all too familiar with.
anyway one thing that makes True Colours work better than Better Place imo is
1. Branch still has agency in the choice their all about to die and well his choice to try and lift up the other people's spirits doesn't effect that at all.
I find it very powerful how he still chooses to be happy in that moment and tries to lift the spirits of everyone around him despite the fact that for all he knows his worst fear is about to come true their all about to be eaten by Bergens aka the very thing he's spent most of his life terrified of.
but with Better Place his Bros don't have agency so it isn't a meaningful character moment their literally imprisoned and forced to take part in the Harmony in order to save their own lives its not even just about Floyd anymore.
its sorta like if Branch only sang True Colours to lift everyone's spirits because he needed them to all have access to their longer Hair Powers so they could lift the lid on top of the cooking pot in order for them to escape.
kinda lessens the impact of the scene a bit doesn't it? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
and as I said before True Colours would be a cute scene on its own but if it was literally the only scene that was meant to show Branch's character Arc and growth then yeah it would still fall flat imo but it isn't because the movie made sure to have lots of other little moments.
showing Branch making the effort beforehand so True Colours was just the final result and not literally the only action taken in his Arc.
unlike Better Place where
1. the Bros Agency was taken away so they literally did the Harmony for selfish reasons and
2. it was the only moment meant to show their character Growth which just isn't how character Arcs work.
you don't get to have characters showcase a whole bunch of flaws and frankly crappy behaviour and then have their Arc be wrapped up with a single action that isn't even all that noble no character Arc works that way.
the writing of the first film understood this and did a Fair amount of it Right but TBT didn't understand this at all.
I'm not an Expert writer but this is all fairly Basic stuff so yeah. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

In the name of youth! TXT dreams of tomorrow
Tumblr media
TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s teasers that were released prior to dropping their new album entitled minisode 3: TOMORROW traces along the team’s past.
The first one, “TXT minisode 3: TOMORROW Concept Trailer Teaser” in which the members appear donning crowns is a nod to their debut song “CROWN”, while the photos and concept clips of the other three versions “Light”, “Ethereal”, and “Romantic” overlap with the many moments since their debut up till the present. “Light” in which the members look like young princes amid nature that they have all to themselves reminds us of the group’s early years, when they landed on the music scene as fresh, mysterious young boys up to their “Blue Hour” period. The members look like fallen angel-turn-rockers in “Ethereal” which reminds us of the rock number “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori” where the members emulated young boys who got lost along the way. In “Romantic” the rose from the music video of “Good Boy Gone Bad,” which is a song about a boy’s overwhelming emotions over breaking up with his lover, makes another appearance except it has now withered and dried up. It’s indeed a “Deja Vu” much like the lead single off minisode 3: TOMORROW. The same events are repeated, but they’re not quite the same. TOMORROW X TOGETHER dance in the “minisode 3: TOMORROW Concept Trailer” just like they did in the “Blue Hour” music video. But instead of in a beautiful plain in “Blue Hour” they dance in a wasted forest with overpasses running through, trees strewn about. Things in the present have gone miserably wrong, unlike in the past. They are in the real world; the members jumped in willingly in the last album The Name Chapter: FREEFALL. Here, nobody believes that they were once young princes.
“I’ve fun away countless times” in “Deja Vu” recalls the lyrics that asks us to run away with them in “Run Away,” that they want to run away in “CROWN,” and that they are running away in a gray car in “LO$ER=LO♡ER.” “Before our dusty crown” is reminiscent of “CROWN” and “A big crown on my, they aren’t hideous horns anymore,” and of the relationship between horns and a crown. “Deja Vu” is a culmination of TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s past. All of their pasts made TOMORROW X TOGETHER who they are here, in the real world. Just like in the opening of “CROWN,” there’s a Morse Code in the second track of the album that comes before “Deja Vu”: ‘- --- -- --- .-. .-. --- .—’. This signal that marked the team's appearance is still being sent out today. However, the signals in “Deja Vu” are “Morse Codes from the ruins” The boys have come to the present from the past, from fantasy to reality, but their present, right here is in ruins. The brutal reality of the present demolishes all the good times, just like the waves erode the sand. The beat and melody of “Deja Vu” continue, like Morse Codes sent from the past reaching us in the present. However, just like TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s past that is reflected in “Deja Vu”, the past that remains in their memories stops them from accepting reality just as it is. They want to keep believing that they were young princes, even if nobody would believe them. And reality is here to aggressively eliminate this wish. This is how they become overcome with an emotion that is neither just sadness nor rage. While “Deja Vu” is a mix of lazy trap and emo-rock, it is more of a combination of complex feelings than a simple mash up of genres. The slow buildup of pent-up emotions along with the beat erupts in the latter half of the second verse in an emo-rock sound with guitars and drums at the fore. It seems like we are severed from our past, but the past can also be the driver that awakens our emotions that have been suppressed by reality. It can create the miracle of tomorrow like in “Miracle,” the track that follows “Deja Vu.” The emotions that are repressed in “Deja Vu” climaxes in the second half of the second verse, then transforms into a bright explosive rock sound in “Miracle” - “tomorrow is visible when your eyes are closed.” We’re not sure if this miracle of tomorrow will ever come true. But like in the last track “Quarter Life,” save for the acoustic rendition of “Deja Vu,” “Deja Vu (Anemoia Remix),” they are in fact stumbling through a dark time, just “a quarter way into a long, long tunnel,” which is quite a far way from nine and three quarters. The adults say, “you only get these beautiful days of youth now,” failing to understand the younger generation, but the boys want to shout out “which way do we go”?! TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s past journey that has been compiled into minisode 3: TOMORROW flips the young people’s relationship with the past and the present, their dreams and reality. Adults in the real world say that young princes don’t exist, that we need to live in the real world. But minisode 3: TOMORROW tells us that all our dreams and love of the past is the way to a “tomorrow” that transcends reality. Young boys who are born in the age of hip hop meets rock to leap into tomorrow.
Once you’ve listened to the whole album, go back to the first track “I'll See You There Tomorrow” and give it another listen. While you may not know which way to go and things may feel bleak, “Quarter Life” tells you to tells you to wander a little, work your way through it, then “I'll See You There Tomorrow” tells the young child who told me “see you again tomorrow” when “I wanted to run away,” and says “I believe that we are meant to be, it’s okay if you’re late, I will always wait for you tomorrow.”  In this moment, “I'll See You There Tomorrow” becomes the last moment when TOMORROW X TOGETHER passes through the dark reality and reaches “tomorrow” together, while showing us a glimpse into TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s future as the first track of the album. Reality is depressing, miserable. But future TOMORROW X TOGETHER invites themselves in the present, and the child that says “see you again tomorrow” to the beyond. The explosive voice from "Deja Vu” expresses the overwhelming emotion of tomorrow’s arrival without too much strain, accompanied by electronic sounds.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s journey has been moving through the dreamy past and the present reality, and towards the future. minisode 3: TOMORROW encompasses the past, present and future all in one album to show us that the young boys are about to embark on a new journey. It seems like they have made it through a quarter of their lives in reality, but in the far future, they may be completely different luminous people. Like the message of the fourth concept trailer “Promise,” reaching what is “beyond” together is all a part of the youthful days shared by TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s generation.

So was it any good? tbosas I mean
Well,,,,,,,,, kind of? I had fun, but also went in knowing they won't pay attention to what I loved about the book so my expectations were properly low. TBOSAS is my fav THG book so a different adaptation exists in my head
Non-spoilery: The movie is divided in parts like the book, but there is no rhyme or reason why, no dramatic breaks or changes like in the books. The Reaping isn't on July 4th because of course. Tom Blyth as Coriolanus was a surprise because I expected nothing from him other than looking sort of like old Snow. The movie naturally removed any and all nuance from his character and kept spelling out everything, but there were a few scenes where they let him yknow, act out how his character is supposed to feel, and it was really good! Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray was more of a mixed bag - sometimes she was fantastic in selling the over-the-top dramatic flare, but other times (especially towards the beginning) it was just weird. I firmly believe this is because the movie didn't fully commit to Lucy Gray as a charming crowd director who keeps her heart hidden and instead made her a more honestly vulnerable girl. She dazzled in musical numbers, though, that girl is a performer through and through! Viola Davis was bad I am so sorry but I felt like I was watching a Disney Channel performance and it's entirely the movie's fault and not hers. Peter Dinklage was super good as Dean Highbottom, he makes him all sad and lost without being over-the-top. The rest of the cast was also good. I loved the sets and the costumes, very in-line with what I'd imagined. The night/dark scenes were so dark that subtitles felt like they were burning into my eyes, it was the absolute worst quality dark scenes I've ever seen in a big movie.
Spoilery:
They removed Coriolanus' obsessive love for Lucy Gray and turned it sooo muted :(((( He didn't even want to kiss her before the Games! He didn't try to control her or feel jealousy or ANYTHING that could imply he might turn on her one day!! His emotional changes and impatience and politeness and selfish kindness are also all gone now. Sejanus and he aren't nearly as close as in the book, but there was this funny moment where the two of them had a more intense forehead touch moment than any Coriolanus shared with Lucy Gray and it made me chuckle. Tigris and Coriolanus were very very well done, I loved how she was always his first bestie!!! But I am sort of annoyed they turned it from "Tigris puts Coriolanus down for the way he treats others" to "Tigris is scared Coriolanus will become his dad". Lucy Gray's Reaping was absolutely horrible, she threw a singing fit instead of being a confident performer, so it makes no sense that she just flips a switch into untouchable after. Loved the snake charmer climax where everyone stands up for Lucy Gray and proves that Capitol needs a victor! It worked better for the movie than the book version, and the way the music exists as a meta instrumental scene where the score eventually catches up to her singing - THAT is how ALL her songs should have been treated!!! The way music worked was one of my biggest issues, sometimes they were totally off tonally from what their role was in the books (The Ballad of Lucy Gray Baird this is about YOU Maiah Wynne's version makes me sob to this day while the movie version is only saved by Rachel's passion) and only the snake song was properly utilized as a plot point. They were such good opportunities for exposition that is more subtle than just putting whatever is Coriolanus feeling in clunky dialogue. And the clunky dialogue WAS constantly used to make up for the amount of internal monologues, even if it made zero sense -at the end they literally had Lucy Gray say "Haha if you destroyed the guns and killed me you could go to District 2 no sweat hahahaha anyway I'll go get some potatoes bye" like what. In what world would she literally tell him that. She is supposed to be a smart survivor. They also put "it's things we love most" quote as the final line in the movie, and I can't describe what a stupid choice that was, because if it wasn't there the movie would go "Highbottom tells Coriolanus he won't be able to forget Lucy Gray-> Coriolanus' proud exit where he believes to be the victor as snow falls down -> Can't Catch Me Now end credits including the snow motif", which would have been SO much stronger since that song delivers the "Lucy Gray eventually caught up to Coriolanus" message and we don't get it spelled out like we're 5 years old. It's not the only part of the movie where references to the OG stick out like a sore thumb, and I am once again asking Why. Why don't you think your audience is smart enough to understand.

Merc aux access
(here are some of my headcanons for what the mercs music tastes could be, probably very inaccurate with the time period they live in)
Scout: has no aux access. Is very PROHIBITED TO BLASTING HIS “shitty white boy music” as others call it. It is not. It is art, TOM JONES IS ART. He has an okay music taste it’s just that it’s all about love n shit and that gets the mercs depressed. A bit of pop but surprisingly (or not) mostly hip hop.
Engie: also has no aux access despite being the one to modify and improve the music player in the base. Would play an overbearing amount of country. At first it was fun but then the country blues came and everyone got depressed again. Will still play country by himself with his guitar tho, if given the chance will do a little performance, then it kindda turns intoo it’s own orchestra since a lot of the boys know how to play instruments, it’s a great time for everyone. Johnny Cash is his god and Dolly is his queen.
Soldier: plays anything American per usual. Despite blasting the anthem one too many times is still allowed to choose music because he can pick some good songs from “Huey Lewis and the News” or “Earth, Wind & Fire”
Medic: absolute maniac, the most unpredictable out of all of em (and that says a lot in a team that has Pyro). Will sometimes go the whole evening having peacefully classical music to help everyone “focus” but then will start blasting heavy metal laughing maniacally. Is the true definition of “I like every genre”
(They are too afraid to take the aux away from him)
Demo: self explanatory, likes anything with accordions and bagpipes. But does genuinely enjoy orchestra music or any songs with strong buildups to big climaxes. Sits there on the edge of his seat waiting for the transition between Beethoven's 5th the 3rd and the to the 4th movement even tho he’s listens to it a million times. Still makes him tear up.
Sniper: not much of a music enthusiast since he’s mostly alone in a very quiet place mumbling to himself all the time, but surprising enjoys jazz when given the opportunity. It’s the only time he really looks like he’s enjoying himself, tapping away, so no one dares to disturb him those moments.
Spy: 60’s French jazz, can probably name 10 artists on top of his head. Says it’s for “culture” and “mission reserch”. Is just a huge nerd for that genre but will never admit it. Yes, Sniper comes to listen and they sit there statically, but don’t let that device you on the inside they are overjoyed.
Heavy: will play classical Russian ball music or even songs from old cartoons and sing along with them not messing up a single lyric. Gets very emotional, knows how to slow dance a bit but is too insecure to try. Engie offered to guide him, tho says Spy would be better since he knows how but Heavy refuses knowing how harsh Spy can be, he can’t handle that much. He don’t wanna look like little baby. Hopes to show Medic his skills when he’s confident enough tho.
Pyro: anything that is upbeat (that can come with repercussions since they have trouble understanding speech so mostly don’t care for the lyrics and we all know that happy sounding doesn’t always have the same meaning lyrically). Also tracks that have clear instrument sounds. Likes to pretend play one of them and can match the beat very easily if they want to tap it out on the table.

hello! i'd love to hear your thoughts on hazbin hotel's writing :] i really like the show, but i'm not really sure if i think it's...good? if that makes sense. so i'd love a second opinion :O
oh my god thank you so much for sending this ask bc ive been thinking about this for sooooo long ive got a lot to say about this show. picture that scene in the first episode where charlie whips out her longass pile of drawings to explain the hotel. that's me rn i have many things good and bad to say about this show. first off im gonna keep it a buck fifty with you anyone genuinely saying this show is really bad needs to watch more shows. watch supernatural season 13 or something. this was not by any stretch of the imagination a bad show for me writing-wise and even the criticisms i have here are mostly nitpicks
i actually think they did a pretty good job given the constraints they had. 8 episodes with 25 minutes each is a ridiculously small amount of time. that's less than 4 hours total to tell this whole story and develop, what, 6 main characters? and introduce major antagonists and the minor antagonists for the next season. i don't know how much they had to cut but i'm willing to bet it was a substantial amount since the show in-universe takes place over the span of 6 months. like i know everyone says this about the show but i really do feel bad that they were given such a short amount of time because it's pretty clear to me that there's a lot of passion put behind this project
i've heard a lot of people say that they have issues with the pacing of the show and i kind of agree. i think the timeline of the plot is kind of weird with episode 1 taking place 6 months from the extermination and episode 2 taking place very soon after. if i remember correctly we don't know when episodes 3 and 4 take place but episodes 5, 6, and 7 all take place back to back probably because they didn't want to shove angel, husk, and sir pentious' major character development right at the end of the series as the plot came to its climax. i think i can understand that reasoning but it does make for a very odd structure and leave the story feeling rushed near the end. i don't know what could have fixed this because having vaggie and charlie visit heaven earlier would have meant that a lot of the show had a higher sense of tension and i think that would've been worse. idk. i understand the criticism and i agree with it i just don't know what could have fixed it
the songs are banger. obviously. that's what happens when you hire half of the living tombstone to write your songs theyre just going to be sick as hell. loser, baby was my favorite and the one from dad beat dad was a close second i liked it a lot. i also think they did a great job developing all of the characters and giving them really solid character arcs with a couple exceptions, mostly alastor, niffty, and vaggie. i'll touch on that in a second. to me angel dust is the emotional core of the show and i really like him and husk. theyre my favorites ill b so sad if they get wrenched apart next season
i have some thoughts on vaggie and this comes from a place of love because i think she's an example of a really great character concept with a not-so-great execution. here's what i think. the writers seem to have a tendency of only giving vaggie big character moments that are tied to her relationship with charlie. and it bugs me a little bit. im not saying that vaggie being charlie's girlfriend has to be a smaller part of her character but every time we get a moment with her like her song in episode 3 it's about how she wants to protect charlie. as much as i love 'out for love' in episode 7 it was kind of unnecessary because we already know how devoted vaggie is to charlie. that was never called into question. for her to go to heaven, knowing that they would recognize her there as a fallen angel, just because charlie wanted her to be there really shows how much she loves her. and i think that part of episode 7 could have been better devoted to exploring the reason why she put her faith in the hotel and what charlie was doing in the first place, because she wants to believe that she can find redemption for the crimes she committed as an exorcist. i don't think they talked enough about the idea that vaggie was cast out of heaven for showing mercy to a sinner. and how this shows the very black-and-white view of morality that heaven has. i think i would like vaggie as a character more if the show stopped trying to frame her belief in the hotel as loyalty to her girlfriend and instead talked about how she's trying to find redemption herself, not in trying to get into heaven but in atoning for the many sinners she killed during the exterminations. that's a really big part of her character that i think should be touched on more often
if you follow me you already know my nitpicks about alastor. theyre problems that will almost certainly be fixed in the next season and theyre incredibly minor, i just dont like characters who seem to always inexplicably one step ahead of everyone else and above all sense of consequence. and to me this is made worse by the fact that alastor appears so often in season 1 without having any character development right next to characters like husk and angel who are going through such horrible, horrible things in their lives. and i think the longer we get alastor as a mysterious 5d chessmaster type of character without knowing his true motivations the more annoying it gets. again, nitpicks that almost certainly won't be a problem next season given the way they're setting up his character. you might not have even considered this to be a problem and think that i'm just being a fucked up little whiny bitch. lmao. it's just a personal thing. niffty i think doesn't have to have character development, as it stands she's entertaining enough by herself and i'm fine with having her run around the hotel with no discernible motivations. she's just havin fun
i think the vees are some really strong love to hate them villains. val obviously is a despicable piece of shit and im looking forward to seeing him get what's coming to him. i have no complaints in regards to them i think their moments were tied into the series very well and theyre interesting antagonists already. it's gonna be great seeing them come more into the spotlight in season 2. i will say that i think some of the time dedicated to exploring their characters could have been put towards the actual main villains of this season, heaven and the rest of the angels, but whatever. as i said before i think a lot of the major plot exposition could have been spread out. but in general i think the vees are really interesting

Alex Turner keeps me from being gay
“The uncanny" is, theoretically, the feeling of being haunted by a memory, encountering something that takes on the feeling of aching familiarity, instead of just being mysterious or creepy. A piece of the past or a buried memory resurfacing in an almost twisted way. The song 505 is constantly operating in a state of the uncanny. From the grandiose structure to the lyrics, something in the undercurrent of the song is bubbling with wistfulness. The narrator is unreliable in a clever way. There's a manipulation of the point of view, the information is very non-straightforward. The song is established by deliberately restricting information from the listeners. We hear the narrator reminisce and feel forlorn for a girl we know nothing about. The narrator knows something that we don't and that is what makes the song even more exciting. The auditory concept is built on curiosity and destination for we are following the narrator on a journey to room 505.We experience the narrator contemplating if the past is as good as he pretends it to be. If resuming the relationship despite knowing that it will all end in suffering and pain would be worth it.
The entire song is tied to older ghosts of music and modern trends. 505 is for me all at once the past, present and future, creating a timeless masterpiece that can even exist in the vacuum of time. The climax, oh god the climax (that's what she said) is a moment of conflict both upbeat and sad. The moment when all the tension is released and all the strings are drawn apart. that segment feels harmonically unhinged. I just love how fragile yet crude the words feel, almost like a literary foreplay leading upto the big moment. (Get urself a man who crumbles when u cry). Alex’s songwriting is like delicate threads joining up and being woven into each other to form a tapestry of his intricate mind. The song runs on streams of thoughts that reject each other, confuse each other but it makes sense to the listeners because we know that the writing is meant to sound like thought. Instead of having a head and foot, his songs always culminate with a greater plan. Alex lets the emotions from imagery form the larger metaphor about relationships that are falling apart. Another thing to admire about the songwriting is the use of sensory touch, thighs and neck for instance. A lot of times writers get stuck in the eyes and forget kinetic descriptions and touch. The Arctic Monkeys aren't strangers to killer cinematic moments in their songs but oh lord is 505 the kingpin of them. 505 as the last song on the album felt like an unhurried and logical step into the more mature sounds on AM like seduction and temptation. The song is scathing and deeply empathetic which goes to show why 505 is considered the quintessential song of the band’s discography.

Shameless 01
Tumblr media
Words: 4200
Summary: This is definitely a dom/sub relationship.  Sub!Bucky x Dom!Reader, but it will switch up as the story progresses.  Loosely based off the song Shameless by The Weeknd. It’s definitely angsty as in this one, Bucky has serious self-worth issues and Reader is there for Bucky even if her selflessness is bordering on the line of torturing herself to take care of him, to be there for him and to do whatever he needs of her.  So Reader has some self-worth issues of her own, but she does it all for the sake of the one she loves.
Warnings: so like I mentioned above, it’s sub!Bucky x dom!Reader.  Let me see if I can list everything.  The only big one I can think of is the orgasm torture where even after climaxing, the stimulation doesn’t stop, making the pleasure overwhelming as they become too sensitive.  There’s talk of edging, but that doesn’t really happen in here.
Shameless Masterlist
You shouldn’t be surprised that you kept finding yourself here. You knew every time he called, you’d come running. It was never a question. It made you feel just a little proud that even though Bucky couldn’t commit to anyone else, he still needed you.
Sure, it may just be for sex, but it was sex he didn’t trust to have with anyone else. He trusted you more than anyone else. He needed you to fulfill these parts of him, these desires, that nobody else could fulfill, but you.
So here you stood, in the middle of his living room, wearing nothing but your heels and matching panties. Bucky was kneeling a few feet in front of you, on his knees, staring at the floor. Waiting for your instruction.
“Who’s gonna love you like me, baby boy?” You asked in a strong, steady, confident voice that you saved especially for these occasions.
He didn’t answer, save for a slight shake of his head.
You walked towards him, the clicking of your heels muffled by the carpeted floor. When you were standing in front of him, the hair on the top of his head grazing against your lower belly, you ran your fingers through the soft locks. Your fingers fell to his face and ran gently over his face before pulling back and landing a sharp smack against his cheek. His head moved minutely before you cupped his chin and jerked his face up until his eyes met yours.
“Who else is gonna touch you like me?”
He tried to shake his head again, but your grip on his chin wouldn’t allow it.
“Say it,” you growled.
“Nobody,” he whispered as his stony blue eyes continued to stare earnestly into yours.
“Say it louder,” you commanded, raising your voice.
“Nobody,” he said just as you instructed.
“Have you been a good boy?” You mused as you let go of his chin and his head dropped back down into its original submissive pose. If you weren’t watching closely, you’d have missed the slight nod of his head.
You didn’t much care for this, being dominant, but you were committed to being anything and everything Bucky would ever need. He was your best friend.
Well, in all actuality, he was much more than that to you, but you’d never admit it aloud. You knew he didn’t handle intimacy and emotions well, choosing instead to cut out that entire part of his existence. So, you’d play along with whatever games he needed.
You swallowed your hurt, pushing it deep, deep down, not to let it resurface again until you were alone in your bed later that night. You wouldn’t allow him to see that side of you. It’s not what he needed today. Maybe, one day when he needs you to be the submissive one, when he has the urge to care for someone, you might have let your weakness show, but today was not that day.
Right now, he needs you to hurt him. You are the only one that can do this for him.
When Bucky gets into these moods, when he gets low and self-deprecating like he is tonight, he needs you to control him. When he called you earlier that evening, his voice timid and shaking, begging you to come over, you knew what he was really asking of you. It wasn’t your kink, but you’d do anything for him. Because he was your kink. He was your everything.
You loved him.
But you’d never tell him that either.
His eyes were sad; hurt, when he looked up at you again. He was desperate to feel something other than the agonizing pang of guilt that seared like daggers in his chest. When his nightmares get bad, when he remembers all the people that his hands have killed, when he remembers all the innocent lives made worse all from his doings, that’s when he wants, no, needs you like this.
You walk back across the room, aware of his gaze still on you. You approach a large, plush sitting chair that he has against the far wall. Just as you are getting close, you stop and slowly push your panties down your legs and step out of them, leaving the lacy undergarment pooled on the floor.  You take your seat on the edge of the cushion, letting your ass hang half-way off of it.
“Come here,” you instruct him as you crook your finger invitingly towards yourself. He crawls on his hands and knees the few feet until he is kneeling in front of you. “Kiss me…here.” You point to the patch of soft curls between your thighs.
It takes only a second before his lips are on the inside of your thigh. He’s leaving a trail of open mouth kisses up along the sensitive skin before he switches to the other side. He has left his hands by his side as he knows he is supposed to since you have not instructed him to touch you yet.
The man’s mouth was pure sin as it skimmed along your flesh.
“Higher,” you moaned, letting your hands fall to his hair, directing him exactly where you wanted him to go. He growled into your curls as his nose dove between your folds and his tongue dipped into your entrance.
He never stopped for a second, not even to get a decent breath, as he continued. He teased around your clit, making you keen and thrust your hips up into his face.
It wasn’t the first time he had proven to you how gifted he was with his mouth. On more than just a few occasions, he’d had you coming by using nothing but his tongue. This was looking to be one of those occasions as you felt yourself start climbing higher and higher. You would swear it was better than actual intercourse, but you’ve also felt what it was like to come with his cock inside you.
Your body was coming alive, ‘opening like a flower’ is what Bucky usually likes to say when he tops. It took you a few minutes to notice his hips rutting gently into the air, finding nothing to grind against that could relieve the tension between his legs. It was a soft, gentle movement; you doubted he was even aware it was happening.
“Do you want to touch?” you asked, keeping up your commanding tone. He nodded eagerly, but never let his mouth stray from your dripping folds. “Is that big, throbbing cock just aching to be touched?”
He moaned his answer into your pussy, your eyes rolling back slightly at the vibrations sent jolting through your core. His eyes locked with yours as he flattened his tongue and swiped it up between your folds, holding pressure on your clit. You moaned yet again as you took two fistfuls of his hair and pulled him back away from you. The way he whimpered when he lost contact with you sent a deep ache into your gut, begging for release.
“On your feet,” you said with what you hoped was your domme tone, but was far too shaky to be truly convincing. Regardless, he stood quickly and clenched his fists by his sides. It would never cease to amaze you the amount of control he possessed to be able to deny himself the pleasure of touching himself before you instructed him to do so.
“Take them off,” you continued, finding your voice again, and gestured towards the only article of clothing that he was still wearing.
He was slow; his hands coming up to his hips before sliding his fingers down and underneath the elastic waistband of his underwear. His thumb hooked over the top and your mouth watered as you watched him bend gracefully, fluidly, flawlessly, pushing the material down his thick, toned thighs and let them fall to the ground.
His cock was fully hard, bobbing heavily in front of him. It was a deep red and looked like it was dripping with pre-cum already. You let your fingers drum over the arms of your chair, fighting to keep yourself from reaching out and touching him.
“Touch yourself,” you commanded.  “Slowly.”
He didn’t disappoint you. He licked the palm of his hand, even spit in it before he wrapped those long, slender fingers around his thickness. His touch was delicate, you could tell even from here.  You watched as he twisted his grip over his cock as he slid down to the base before bringing it up over the head. His thumb swiped over the slit, bringing a couple beads of pre-cum swirling around the tip before letting his fist slide back down again.
“Faster.”
He whimpered slightly, but didn’t falter as his hand continued its thrusting, speeding his pace marginally. You could tell he was approaching his climax at a dangerously fast pace. This was usually what happened when you started the night wil him between your thighs. It had been one of his favorites and you used the intimate knowledge that he derived unfounded pleasure when his tongue was between your folds.
It was impossible to fight the urge to touch yourself. So you didn’t.The moment your fingers brushed against your clit, you let the moan fall uninhibited from your lips. Your other hand found your breast and tweaked the nipple tight before rolling it between your thumb and forefinger. The hand on your clit pressed two fingers against the bundle of nerves before starting slow circles.
“Please,” Bucky begged as his eyes bore into yours. His pupils were so blown that you could only make out the smallest gray-blue ring surrounding the pool of blackness.
“Mmm, please what, baby boy?” you mewled as you let your fingers slip down and slide two inside of you nearly to the knuckle.
“Please, let me taste you again,” he asked as his gaze drifted to where your fingers were slowly pumping in and out of you. “Let me make you come…”
“On your knees,” you commanded as you let your fingers fall out of your cunt and held them out expectantly towards him.
He fell to his knees roughly, his mouth devouring your fingers, slurping your juices from them. His hand fell from his cock and you pulled your hand from his mouth quickly.
“I never said you could stop touching yourself,” you said as you gestured towards his swollen cockhead. You watched his lip quiver as he reluctantly started stroking his cock again. “Eat me, baby boy. Kiss me like it might be the last time you’ll lick this pussy.”
Like a man possessed, his mouth was on you, nose and tongue diving into your soft curls and found that spot that had you keening into him again. One hand found his hair and pulled while the other stayed on your breast, pinching sharply at the bud, making you cry out.
You came with a sharp cry, pulling his hair in your fist so tight that you were sure you were going to pull it straight from his scalp.
“Stop,” you huffed, trying to catch your breath.
He never hesitated, falling back into his seated position, hands on his thighs, and head ducked down staring at the floor. You stood and straightened yourself the best that you could on shaky legs. You kicked off the heels and walked over to his side.
“Sit in the chair.”
He rose smoothly, more graceful than any man of his stature should be able to. He took his seat as you strode to the armoire across the room that was usually locked. Now, however, it was open and its contents were on full display.
There were drawers upon drawers full of different toys and gear that he used only with you. Hanging from the top were paddles and whips that weren’t used too often. Sure, when Bucky was the sub most of the time, he craved the pain, but there wasn’t much you could do physically to inflict the kind of feeling he needed.
But it didn’t matter. That wasn’t the kind of pain he needed. He’d experienced that enough before. No, instead, Bucky’s preference of submission lingered along the lines of orgasm denial and orgasm torture.
Your usual method was to bring him to the edge over and over again, bring him right to the cusp, only to deny him repeatedly until he was a blubbering mess. He always responded so well which made it all the more effective.
His favorite, however, was the orgasm torture; when you would force orgasm after orgasm on him despite his sensitivity. It was definitely the most intense form of punishment for the super soldier as the serum surging through his veins meant nearly no recovery time between climaxes. You could make him cum over and over and over again, only having to stop when you had exhausted yourself.
Tonight didn’t seem like one of those nights. He seemed pretty mild compared to when you usually dominate him, but that didn’t mean you were going to let him off too easily. You’d formed a game plan in your head, settling on keeping it on the simpler side tonight. So you grabbed a simple, adjustable silicone cock ring and some cuffs to restrain his hands and feet.
He watched you carefully as you knelt in front of him, slowly taking one ankle and guiding it closer to the foot of the chair before cuffing it into place. When you moved to the other, he had already widened his stance, making it easier to cuff the other. You walked around to the back and did the same to his wrists. When you were satisfied he wasn’t going to be able to slip his restraints easily, you came back around and stood between his knees. Of course it would be effortless for him to snap the bindings, but like most other things that happen in this bedroom, it’s more about his self control than anything else.
You showed him the cock ring and smiled wickedly when his breath caught in his chest. You knelt and slowly swiped your tongue along his shaft, teasing him before placing the ring in place. When you had it wrapped around his base and the balls, you tightened the band until it was snug.  He showed no signs of discomfort so you let go and crawled into his lap.
With your knees on either side of his hips, you reached between your bodies and fisted his cock, guiding him towards your entrance. Without anything in the way of warning, you slammed down until your ass was flush against his thighs, his cock buried tight inside of you.
This was your favorite position. It allowed you the illusion of intimacy as your bodies were pressed snugly against one another. You knew it was one of his too, but for different reasons. He’d tell you it was because it kept him eye-level with your bouncing breasts. He’d tell you it was because it afforded him the perfect position to watch your bodies connect the way that made you scream his name. He’d tell you it was because you looked like a goddess riding him like this, in complete control, leaving him at your mercy.
“Fuck!” he cursed through gritted teeth, squeezing his eyes shut as you continued to slam down in his lap. Your nails raked over his shoulders, the top of his back, before finding home in his hair once more.
“You wanna come, baby boy?” you asked in a heaving breath.
“Yes, p-please…” he gasped as he threw his head back and screwed up his face in concentration. You imagined it was taking everything he had in him not to let go right this second. His entire body was tensed underneath you, even the chair creaked as he was straining against the cuffs.
“You can come…” you whispered in his ear and felt him relax for a second before you continued, “…but I’m not gonna stop riding this fat cock until I’ve come again.”
He cursed in what you assumed was Romanian as he clenched every muscle in his body. You felt him lock up beneath you as he continued to fight against his release, but it was too late.
This is what he loved, you knew it.
He was fighting against the urge to let go. His body knew that it was so close to unencumbered bliss, but his mind knew that it came at a nearly unbearable price.
“Come on, baby boy. You can do it,” you whispered in his ear before taking the lobe between your teeth and tugging. Your arms were wrapped around his neck and one hand came up to tangle in his sweat-dampened locks. His head was falling forward to your shoulder as he continued to struggle for control, but you pulled his head back again. Your mouth was now on his neck, nipping and sucking and lavishing his skin with your tongue.
“Come in me, James. I need to feel that big, fat cock spilling all that cum inside of me. God, the way you stretch my pretty little pussy, I can’t help it,” your walls tightened around his straining girth for dramatic effect, “as you hit that same little spot inside me, it drives me crazy. C’mon, I know you want it baby, I know you wanna come in me so hard and deep that it’ll be dripping out of me for hours after you pull out.”
“Oh gods….shit…fu-fucking damn it…f-f-fuck…p-please…” his curses were intermixing between English and Romanian now and you knew he was seconds away from losing it. You quickened your pace as your intermingled sweat made your bodies stick to one another. You let go of his neck, instead placing your hands on his bound wrists, leaned back so your front was on full display, and rolled your hips so sinfully, grinding on him, moaning his name.
With a growl and a cry, he was coming hard inside you. You could feel the way his cock twitched as he pulsed against your fluttering walls. You slowed your pace until you were taking long, slow strides above him. The mixtures of your juices were starting to leak out of you and pool in the chair.
You let him relax a little before you started your punishing rhythm again, barely hearing his little whimpers as your own pulse thundered in your ears.  You couldn’t help but fall forward again, your head on his shoulder and his breath was hot in your ear as it shuttered in and out.
It took only a dozen more sloppy thrusts before you were coming again.  When your walls clamped tight over him, his whimpers turned to cries before you were sliding up and off of him, and then to the floor on your knees in front of him. Your hands were fisted around his shaft as you worked him quickly into another release.
His brow was furrowed and his eyes bore into yours, his perfect mouth falling open as he came again, his seed spurting up and spilling all over his taut belly.
When his breathing started to return to normal, you carefully loosened the cock ring and unbuckled the cuffs from his wrists and ankles.
First, you massaged the pink skin on each limb where the cuffs restrained him before you worked your way slowly up his legs. Your hands found his and you eased him up until he was standing. His body sagged against yours as you led him to the bathroom and urged him into the shower.
When the water was as hot as you were going to be able to stand it, you eased him under the spray. Lathering your hands with his soap, you eased them into his scalp, massaging it the way you knew he liked. Once you were satisfied, you eased his head back under the water again, helping rinse all the suds from his shaggy hair. Little by little, you felt him relaxing under your soft touches.
Next, you were grabbing the shower pouf you kept there and poured a generous amount of his body wash into the mesh and started to rub it in circles over his chest. You worked over his shoulders, down his arms, his belly, his hips, and then his legs. He let you turn him around to rinse his front as you started the same, easy, methodical motions over his back.
When you finished with him, you did a quick rinse of your own and turned off the water. You reached for a towel and began patting Bucky dry as he just stood there with a lazy, satisfied grin on his face.  You smiled back as you brought the towel up to squeeze as much of the moisture from his hair as you could.
Once in the bedroom again, you helped him pick out something to wear to bed. You strode over to him, clothes in hand, as he lay back on the mattress, making grabby hands at you to come closer.  Once you’d placed the clothes neatly at the foot, you climbed over him and sat on his lap like he was gesturing you to.
His hands were on your shoulders and he pulled you down so your body was pressed against his.  He kissed you softly, tenderly. His hands slowly slid down to your hips, making you grind over his growing erection.
Without another word, he pulled up your hips and angled you just right until you were able to slide down his length once again. This time, it was slow, soft, and tender. You were able to relish in the way he was filling you up, the way you stretched to accommodate him. His hips came up to meet yours in lazy thrusts.
It was almost embarrassing how quickly you were to another orgasm, but you didn’t have it in you to care as he slid one hand off your waist and between your bodies. His thumb had barely touched your clit when you clenched around him once more.
Your cries were quiet, barely able to make a sound as you came for the third time that night. Bucky worked you through it, this time with gentle touches and sweet kisses. He wasn’t far behind you as he snapped his hips up maybe two, three more times before stilling, releasing in you once again.
You rolled off of him and to your back. He stayed close, curling his big body around yours and rested his head on your heaving chest. He liked to count your heart beats as they slowed back to normal.
You shared only another couple minutes of easy silence before he spoke.
“Everyone treats me like I’m damaged.” His voice was so soft, it was almost painful. “I mean, I am…I know I am…but you treat me like I’m not. Most of the time, I try to do better, to be better, but it never seems to be enough. I still feel broken.”
He shifted back off of you so he could look at you. You scooted down so you were eye level with him and turned to your side, mimicking his posture, hoping to keep him at ease and relaxed and talking.
“I don’t know that I can be fixed. It feels like the extent of the damage is beyond repair. But the only time I have ever felt close to being whole again, to being the same guy I was before I left for the war, before HYDRA turned me into a monster, is when I’m with you. You make me feel like maybe I could have that normal life again.”
Your heart was thundering in your chest so hard that you were surprised he couldn’t hear it. He fell silent for a few minutes more and you couldn’t bring yourself to break the quiet. It was easy; comforting. He had closed his eyes and let his beautiful face fall into a relaxed, sad smile. You’d almost thought he had fallen asleep until he started talking again.
“I know you love me. I can feel it every time you’re with me. I can feel it with the way you are with me. I just…I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to return those same affections like you deserve. I don’t know that I’m capable of loving you the same way you love me, no matter how badly I want to. I don’t know if that’s a part of me anymore.”
You brushed a stray tear from his cheek before cupping his face. You let your thumb swipe a couple more that escaped before he opened his eyes again to look at you.
“I’ll always be there for you, Buck. Every time you call, anytime you need me, whatever you need from me, I’m always going to be there. I have no shame in doing that for you.”
Only for you, Buck, you thought to yourself. Even if it kills me.
You leave later that night while Bucky sleeps. It’s what you always do. It’s what you know he needs.  He doesn’t ever do the whole night, the sleeping over, breakfast in bed type stuff. He barely lets himself relax enough to fall asleep in your arms.
So, after his breathing has steadied, after his lips fall into that adorable pout that you love oh so much when he’s asleep, you slip from his arms and out of the bed. You place a soft kiss to his forehead and tuck a stray piece of hair behind his ear before pulling on your clothes and walking out the door.

My 10 Favorite DreamWorks Movies
Tumblr media
When I first joined Tumblr one of the first few posts I made was a "Best of DreamWorks" where I just pasted a bunch of images from the movies I liked the most.
After seeing the new Puss In Boots movie and seeing all the love it's been getting I thought it would be nice to revisit the list, but this time actually talking about why I like these movies so much.
Just wanna say real quick, If you're coming here wondering if "Shark Tale" will be on the top 5 and how I'm gonna defend my case about it, you lower these expectations right now. This is gonna be a super boring list. My favorites are everyone's favorites.
The only thing I can bring up is why I myself like them, and hopefully, I can bring up unique enough reasons for it. I've always been a fan of this company, mostly because I really respect how many risks they take with the premises of their stories.
I always like to believe that there is no such thing as a bad idea, only a bad execution, and DreamWorks proves that by never being afraid of giving a chance to the weirdest of ideas, and when the execution pays off, it pays off greatly!
So which ideas did I feel were executed the best?
10 . The Bad Guys
Tumblr media
First things, first. "Good Tonight" is a freaking awesome song and everyone should give it a listen.
The idea of bad guys is "what if we tried to make the meanest-looking animals that people are familiar with into the heroes of our story?"
Animals like snakes, sharks, spiders, and so on, things that are known for being very dangerous and scary, but placed into the roles of bandits that go on heists while running away from the police.
I always call this the "Not Sly Cooper" movie, because that's exactly what I feel a Sly Cooper movie would be like. Tons of animal-acting-like-human jokes, fun cartoonish heists and car chases, and some nice morals about what it means to be a thief and what it means to be a hero.
Bad Guys is a very charming movie. The characters are all likable, many of the jokes are funny, and the way the movie looks with its blend of 2D and 3D is just amazing. The scene where they are escaping from prison with the help of a "mysterious ninja" being my favorite part.
The only problem I have is that I feel having both a shark and a piranha in the cast was kinda redundant. I would have replaced the piranha with a bat so they would have a scary flying animal instead of two scary water animals. Plus, imagining a bat singing "Good Tonight" just feels like a funnier visual to me.
9. Megamind
Tumblr media
"Presentation!!"
The idea for Megamind is rather simple, show what happens when the villain does beat the hero.
I feel like this movie did a good job showing how the fun of working hard can sometimes feel more rewarding than the fun of actually winning, kinda sending a sweet message about the futility of cheating.
I also like how over-the-top Megamind himself is with how he treats all his evil actions as some grand spectacle. Doesn't matter if he's winning or losing, this dude always looks like he's having a lot of fun treating these hero vs villain battles as some sort of playtime with his best friend.
You're basically watching a kid's imagination of what these fights would look like from someone who grew up watching way too many cartoons. Tons of cheesy one-liners, tons of dramatic speeches, tons of last-second twists, and of course, tons of big explosive action.
And it's also fun seeing Megamind's fantasy of what a hero vs villain scenario looks like slowly dying once he meets Titan and how differently he treats this whole thing compared to MetroMan.
The one problem I had was the way the character of Roxane was treated. It felt like they were trying to make her more than just "the girlfriend" and give her more depth, but in the end, her biggest role in the climax was still needing to be saved and serving as emotional support for the main character. Also, the way she was basically catfished by Megamind always made me very uncomfortable, especially when thinking that kids might be watching this and learning from this.
It wasn't too awful, but I felt they could have done more with her.
8. Spirit
Tumblr media
"What if we made a movie about the adventures of a horse?"
This one is kinda hard to describe why I like it. I think the reason is that it feels... How do I put it... Honest? Real? Genuine?
Whenever Spirit goes through an emotion it always feels earned. When he's sad, you're sad, when he's angry, you're angry, and when he's celebrating after succeeding in a daring escape, you want to celebrate too.
This movie to me just did a great job at making me feel what this horse was feeling, and most of it with the use of very minimal words.
I loved Spirit, loved his chemistry with the villain, loved the sense of speed whenever he is running through the fields or avoiding the cowboys... and most of all, loved the joy you get whenever you feel free.
It's not that this gives you a great sense of freedom, its that it gives you a desire to fight for freedom! It makes you feel you can be more, and do more and have the right to reject being tied down by others who want to limit your true potential and control you.
This movie makes you want to be free.
7. The Road to El Dorado
Tumblr media
Do I even need to say anything besides the fact that this movie has Chel in it?
But for real, I think this movie was my introduction to the Maya, Inca, and Azteca culture, (I think my closest only other option at the time was "Mucha Lucha" of all things...), and they make this culture look fun and cool.
The architecture looked nice, the clothing looked nice, the people were so likable, and anytime they party you just want to party as well. I kept waiting for some big reveal to happen for the citizens to turn on the heroes, but they never do, and that was so refreshing, just showing people from different areas becoming friends AND staying friends.
I also love how funny Miguel and Tulio are, I was a kid when I first saw this so I was weirded out by the idea of two adults as the leads but I was sold on them very quickly. Even their horse was likable. everyone is just so likable in this movie. It makes you want to visit El Dorado and hang out with all these people.
Such a charming, funny, and friendly movie.
Also Chel. Chel was a big selling point.
6. Puss in Boots, the Last Wish
Tumblr media
I already talked about this one over here, but, long story short, like many other movies on this list, I love how good this movie is at sucking you into the mood.
The way the visuals, the story, the dialogue, and the characters work together really succeed into making you feel what these people are feeling and making want to see more of them.
Didn't matter if it was the heroes, the villains, the antagonists, or what, I was 100% behind everyone's motivations and I couldn't wait to see all their goals clashing with each others'.
Also, the wolf is by far one of DreamWork's best antagonists, right up there with Shen and Ramses. He looks cool, talks cool, and even his motivation was cool.
This wasn't just a movie, this was an experience.
5. Shrek 2
Tumblr media
I freaking dare anyone going into this movie blind to predict what the climax is going to be.
The weird idea of this one is that Shrek after marrying his wife needs to meet her parents... And that's it. It's just one long and uncomfortable reunion with people who really don't want to be on the same room together and all the things they try to pull of to make or break this relationship.
Hire assassins, request help from magic fairies, fake your appearance, steal a potion, it's all about seeing how far everyone is willing to go to do what they think it's the best for those they love.
It all turns into a glorious and creative mess and I can't help but love every second of it!
(Side note, anyone ever notices how often DreamWorks sequels focus on the idea of characters dealing with their parents?)
4. Kung Fu Panda 2
Tumblr media
If it wasn't for Prince of Egyp, I would say that this was the hardest and darkest DreamWorks movie.
There is so much focus on feeling lost, feeling abandoned, feeling hopeless and betrayed, and just trying to understand what you're doing wrong and what you need to do right.
This movie was like a therapy session... Done with talking cartoon animals, yes, but a therapy session no less.
The themes of trying to understand yourself, where you came from, and where you want to go are all handled greatly as you watch the relationship between the hero and the villain.
Po and Shen have such an absurdly great chemistry. I love seeing them talking, fighting, and trying to one-up each other, and I really love how much their relationship changes the more they learn about each other, and it all happens so fast and so smoothly too.
It makes me angry whenever I see a movie and the hero and the villain barely talk with each other. That's one of the best things you can do with them! Why are you skipping it??
Luckily this one didn't, and in return, we got one of the best interactions ever. I love these two by themselves and love these to together. Just a pair of wonderful characters that work really well off each other!
3. The Prince of Egypt
Tumblr media
Man... What do I even say about this one?
It's probably the riskiest idea DreamWorks has ever tried to do, tell the story of Exodus as an animated musical... And that was their second movie ever after freaking "Antz!" These guys have a lot of guts.
This was a movie that I didn't really get it when I saw it as a kid, but I just love trying to understand its themes and messages now that I'm older.
I love the main conflict between the brothers, again, bringing attention to how good a story can be when you focus on the connection of the hero and the villain. Showing both sides of people who grew up under an unhealthy ideology, one trying to grow out of it and the other trying to embrace it even more.
I love the imagery of Egypt, both as this grand epic kingdom built from the struggle and pain of the slaves and as this falling empire being attacked by God Himself. The visuals of the plagues being my favorites.
And I love the sense of calmness that appears whenever the chaos takes a break. Seeing Moses and his people getting out from the ocean and enjoying the dawn of a new era after all the struggle they went through just felt so rewarding. It's just such a satisfying ending for such a long journey... As long as you decide to stop there and don't look up what happens in the rest of the story.
I especially love the concept of Ramses, A person so deep into the teachings of his father that he can't even see why the things he's doing are so bad. I think my favorite part is when he's hugging his son while glaring at Moses and just asking "Why?" while he has this GIANT WALL SHOWING BABIES BEING FEED TO CROCODILES right behind him.
It's such an amazingly blind irony as the man cries for his kid's safety while the crying of all these dead kids looms over his shoulder. Just how do you have to be raised to turn into this kind of person?
It's so baffling but I just can't stop watching and wondering how far is this man willing to go. Such a sad showing of someone who doesn't see he's on the wrong side and trying to fight against the tides.
It's a beautifully sad, and yet hopeful movie.
2. Kung Fu Panda
Tumblr media
Yeah, I put Kung Fu Panda above Prince of Egypt... I don't know what's wrong with me either. I don't know, for some reason, I just have a lot of respect for this movie? Prince of Egypt I liked a lot but I couldn't really fully understand it and enjoy it until I was much older. Meanwhile, even when young I could already enjoy Kung Fu Panda a lot.
It felt like it had a bigger challenge by being a good, deep movie while also being fun, funny, and cheerful.
It's easy to make dark stories have strong messages and depth, but it's hard to have no-so-dark stories also have strong messages and depth, and I have such an appreciation for that. They could have just made this a lame joke-fest about being an overweight character trying to learn martial arts, but they didn't!
They put a lot of effort into the lessons, the fighting, the motivations of the characters, the visuals, and even the jokes! I thought the jokes were going to be awful but they were all very charming!
I love the designs of the cast in how they each represent a level of kung-fu, AND, I love the Kung-fu itself.
I feel like this is the Kung Fu Panda movie that tries the most to be creative with combining martial arts in a cartoon setting. Like... I like Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3 but I don't really remember much of the action there aside from the stuff in climaxes with the "water dodgeball" section and the "giant energy dragon avatar in the spiritual realm" section.
But in here? I remember the bridge fight, the prison escape, the master vs student showdown, the hot-potato game with the scroll, and even the training sessions with Po and the five.
I feel like as the movies went on they focused more on the spiritual journey of self-discovery and toned down the cartoon action, while in here it's just perfect.
It's amazing how many elements this movie is trying to balance while still pulling it off each of them so well.
I just wished that Po and Tai-Lung had more scenes of interaction because they basically feel like strangers in the end even though the whole movie is building up to their fight... A fight that... Really doesn't feel as good as all the action that came before to be honest.
But still, that's just one small little problem in what's otherwise a perfect product. Besides... KFP2 covers the whole Hero vs Villain thing that was lacking in here by more than making up for it, so it's all good. 1. How To Train Your Dragon
Tumblr media
Of course my favorite DeamWorks movie is the one with the dragon. I freaking love dragons! I have a comic based on people that become dragons for crying out loud!
Kidding aside, this is a movie with a message that I just respect a lot. I really appreciate the idea of teaching kids the importance of knowing how to stop, looking at what you're doing, trying to understand who you're hurting, and what you can do to change.
This isn't just something that holds value to kids, this holds value to everyone. We are always so focused on going after the things we want that we tend to forget the people we're sometimes stepping on to get there, and this movie shows that not only do we not lose anything for trying to be friends with these people, but we might even gain something even better.
I just adore the friendship of Hiccup and Toothless (God, I love these names).
One is a kid trying to make his father proud by following the family legacy, while also trying to do what he loves by studying and befriending dragons and the conflicts that come from trying to please both sides. This is such a great lesson for kids because they're always stuck into deciding on what's best for them and what's best for what their parents want from them.
And the other side is a pet slowly lowering his defenses and deciding if he wants to trust this weird stranger that tried to hurt him or give him a second chance to prove himself as a possible ally. What do you do? Put yourself at risk and give others a chance or remain safe and away from possible harm?
This movie reminds me a lot of Lake in that if you keep looking at it you can take away twenty different lessons and themes to talk about.
Again, it's the challenge of trying to be deep while avoiding being too dark and remaining all-ages-friendly.
Kids are gonna watch this, they're gonna love the dragons and the flying scenes, and they're gonna come back years later and pick up things they didn't see were there before and later realize that without noticing it, these lessons became a part of them and a part of what they do.
You can feel that there is a lot of love in this movie. I remember watching the commentary and looking at how the creators always would get excited when there was a silent scene or a world-building scene. It's clear they had a lot of fun working on this product, and this love really can be felt through the characters, their growth, and their emotions.
I freaking adore this movie, and I freaking adore DreamWorks!

REMEMBER THAT OEOEOE SONG FROM NOT ME?
I SURE DID.
AS MENTIONED, WinTeam are my favorite best babies, and while that's so, I watched Between Us and had a regular urge to re-edit the series and make a supercut for myself to rewatch. That's a fairly massive undertaking, and I've never made a supercut before, so I decided to do a few trial runs on small, isolated scenes.
I just made two other edits, so this'll be the last one for today! I've had an enormous amount of fun doing these, and I feel a little more confident about making a supercut. …Though I admit, I'm probably gonna do a few more of these for funsies.
My third and final scene of the day is the near-drowning scene from episode 6! Originally, I hoped to do a more gradual build-up with "Everlast" throughout the scene, but I could only extract one vocal track, and in it, the lyrics of the existing song and the actors' vocal track are fused together. So I decided to start later in the scene for the big emotional climax of "Everlast," an instrumental made famous by the SeanWhite rooftop kiss in Not Me (dir. Anucha Boonyawatana). This truly is such a gorgeous, uplifting track, and I think it contrasts beautifully with WinTeam shaken and weeping – here, the music frames this moment in a perspective the characters can't access. Team is safe. Win got to him in time. The bright vocals in "Everlast" are like a thread of relief growing stronger as they hold each other.
I love them so much. >:'''(
I HOPE YOU'VE ENJOYED TODAY'S JOURNEY AS MUCH AS I HAVE \:D/

Additional Moulin Rouge thoughts
I saw the tour production on the April 25th and the more time I have to settle the idea of it in my mind the more I can appreciate the musical for what it is. I did go on to watch the movie but that’s a future post. Here’s just a collection of my thoughts
While it’s also one of my big criticisms of the show, I can appreciate the first chunk of act one basically being four huge songs in a row (it only starts once Christian breaks away and starts narrating) your confused and brought up in this huge whirlwind of a moment- and it plays into the whole theme. At the same time it was confusing as shit going in with no context
During this big mix of numbers I want to thank whoever made the transition of Burning down the house/She’s a brick house. That’s hysterical and I love you.
✨Ohioooo yay✨
Whole scene mix up in the elephant where she thinks Christian’s the duke. I have no notes.
Also, possibly my favorite scene is them making up the show on the spot and the hilarity of that improv moment. It’s just too good
AND THE PLAY ALSO BEING DIRECTLY WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SHOW BUT WITH SMALL CHANGES. God this! I love this way way more than I should, it’s even better as I went in with no context but you could catch… ah that’s going to happen but when it - where in the rehearsals they’ve been playing the plays climax for laughs but when it becomes the actual climax? The absolute emotional gut punch of that gun scene? 🤌🏻 Art.
Zidler. I love this type of comedic role as the actor knows exactly what they’re doing and proceeds to steal every single scene they are in.
That being said I also like Zidler having more of a connection with his girls (and guys). It’s almost fatherly? In the actually caring for the well being/having a connection with them.!
Mustache twirling levels from the duke — also Rolling Stones number - hello???
MOTHERFUCKING ROXANNE. This number is - holy shit . Holy shit. Like for one thing it’s the perfect song choice and for another the absolute emotional powerhouse that John Cardoza is? He joined the tour mid march and he’s — oooohgh he’s great.
It’s funny in a dark sort of way but they have this crushing moment where he’s ugly sobbing, rocking the body of the woman he loved in his lap as everyone watches. Only to follow it up with 🎉 confetti cannon party time is Djsksksksksk see the movie does the opposite and it hits how it should but oh my god something about having confetti after is so funnny.

Finally got the chance to watch the Little Mermaid Live Action. So thoughts.
They could not have picked a better actress. Halle embodies Ariel so well, is crazy. She is absolutely charming and her preformance was excelent. I had high expectations because she is such a lovely person already, but she exceded them. None of her lines felt forced even when the script has its fair of flaws. And needless to say her voice is that of an angel.
I enjoyed Eric a lot more than I thought I would. I was never a big fan of him in the original movie, but here he was very charming and fun.
The romance is adorable af. Absolutely the best part of the movie. They have such good chemestry and I like they both are akward, and collect things and love lo learn. She teaches him thing, and he teaches her things. They understand each other so well instantly. And I loved they look like they have so much fun being together, is so cuteee.
Really enjoyed "Kiss the girl", the tension was great and they actually let the song build up and have pauses. He looks at her like thaaat, you can tell he falls for her so hard, as hard as she does and I love that. The scene when she shows him her name? Albsolutely fucking adorable.
Climax too, when Ariel shatters the neckless and it all breaks loose, I like that Eric is protective immediately, he is so intense, love it. Eric all desperate after the battle with Ursula, wanting to look for her, and grabing her dress from the water bbrrrr
Their final kiss, the way he holds her, omggg (No sparkly dress or princess twirling though, so -1)
In other things, most of the complains I saw about the movie are not really a big deal. The CG sometimes looks, well, like CG, but it works. The way Ariel moves underwater looks great, so natural! I belive she is a mermaid.
Another big complain was Flounder, but he seems perfect to me. The voice is adorable, what more do you want? I think we are too used to percive fishes as "ugly" animals, so y'all think you can't find a realistic looking fish cute, but it really isn't so hard.
Lastly, maybe personal opinion, but a lot of people complained about Aquafina as the seagul. I don't think it has connected with people that the seagul is SUPPOSED to be annoying. Idk, it didn't bother me that much.
What did bother me were the songs. Wasn't a fan of the new songs. Eric's song was ok, reminded me of Madame Gaston a little bit. But the others were unnecesary and over explained too much.
The old songs sound good, but are affected by another thing I didn't like. There are some scenes that needed more impact and time to breathe and the movie didn't let them.
Ariel's discussion with her father? Needed to be more intense. The little moment of Ariel being upset in her cave before Part of your World starts? Needed some moments so we could feel her anger and frustration. I mean, this is the buildup to the big song, they could have been more careful and I felt like it took impact away from it.
Howard Ashman said the trick with musicals is that the characters break into song when the emotions start to become too grand to express with just words. I think they missed that here.
When she gets out of the water for the first time, again, needed more impact, a breath for us to take in the scene, for Ariel to take in the fact that she is seeing the surfice world for the first time. The skyyy omg she has never seen the sky and they just brievely focus on the fireworks and move on.
A good moment was when Ariel saves Eric and is holding him above the water. That little quiet moment, I felt the magic, the fantasy, I could take it all in, because they let it breatheee.
Another thing is they explain too much in dialogue. The song I by far liked the least was when she arrives on land. For starters, it takes from the impact of her loosing her voice because she is still "singing" in her head.
Let her see the world, and take it in, react to it, but I don't need a song explaining me how this is the first time she is seeing fire and that Eric walked away from her, I know, I'm watching it happen!!
The one that is more distracting with the over explaining is Ursula. I wasn't that sold on Melissa MacCarthy at first, I think Ursula should have been played by a Drag Queen, and was dissapointed on her first scene because they purposely mirror almost frame by frame Animated Ursula's introduction, except it didn't have that spark from the original.
But I ended up liking her a lot on her other scenes. She was cool, Melissa played her own version of the role and is great. I loved her lair, the entrance with the (what is it, a mosasaurus?) skeleton, was so cool! She came and played the "aunt who knows what you are going through" cart on Ariel pretty well.
Other things I liked. The original voice actress for Ariel making a cameo caught me off guard. I got teary eyed when she gave Halle the fork, like was passing it on to her.
The scene of them dancing in the market, mirroring the sounds and visuals of "Under the sea", THAT is show don't tell. We are getting just by visuals that humans and sea creatures are not that diferent from each other.
Why did the final scene with Triton made me cry??? wtf?? From Triton coming out of the water all whimsical, noding to Eric, the silent moment of saying goodbye. All the diferent mermaids appearing and standing beside all the diferent humans, gathered to say goodbye to them. Signifying how the bridge between worlds has been crossed because of their love.
I had a big smile in the end. Overall I really liked it, wow, can you belive it, I liked a disney live action. Is fun, the actors are good at their job, the story is engaging.
I think the movie, like most of the live actions, fails the most when it's trying to imitate the animated movies too much instead of doing its own thing. Some things like visuals and the pacing just don't translate well into live action.
But I love that this one has respect for what the original wanted to tell. Is respectful towards the fact that is a fairytale and a romance, and they let it be fun and whimsical instead of filling it with meta jokes. Is charming, like a princess fairytale should be.
What did you all think, I want to discuss.

comparing Brother Bear with TBT since their Both movies about Brotherhood and also Brother Bear just Randomly popped into my head again today.
Tumblr media
I've loved Brother Bear for years I think its a very underrated Disney movie with nice songs cute characters and a cute story.
and I randomly started thinking about it earlier and then started comparing it to TBT since their both strongly focused on Brotherhood.
and I realised that for some reason Brother Bear doesn't bother me as much as TBT does even tho it technically has many of the same faults.
it Rushes over the interesting character Drama and it Rushes a conclusion to said Drama between the Brothers at the end.
like the scene in the main film of Kenai confessing to Koda is still fairly sad but its massively undercut by having the song play over it.
the deleted version of that scene where the song doesn't play and we get to hear the full version of Kenai's confession and Koda's reaction is available on youtube and its way more heart-breaking imo.
which I guess is why they didn't go with that version since it would have maybe been a bit too much for young kids.
but the movie also employs the gimmick of having the brothers come back together in the end to fight off a life threatening enemy and all is seemingly forgiven between them straight away afterwards.
I guess one reason why BB doesn't bother me as much as TBT is that Kenai actually grows throughout the film despite wronging Koda in a massive way.
and Koda forgiving him too quickly in the ending is not as bothersome because we didn't see Kenai mistreat him the entire film up until the point he found out.
and he didn't then proceed to hurt him again in arguably just as bad a way as he did before like Bro zone did.
instead Kenai did grow in the film and he and Koda already had a healthy relationship prior to the reveal and later confession.
plus what they had throughout the film was genuine sibling banter it wasn't one sided like Bro zone's interactions were with Branch where it was basically just them treating him like a kid and not taking his Valid feelings seriously.
and when Kenai confesses to Koda he's a lot more openly remorseful and tries to go after him to make things right Bro zone just get a brief 4 second shot of them feeling bad and then the movie moves on.
not to mention the climax of BB involves Kenai making a sacrifice for Koda first off he puts his own life in danger in order to save him from his Brother Denahi. and at the very end he makes a big sacrifice ( staying as a Bear so he can stay with him even tho it means leaving behind his human life and not being able to openly communicate with his family )
which somewhat works as an act of love and redemption whereas the climax of TBT involves Bro zone being forced to work together in order to save their own lives as well as the life of the Bro who none of them wronged all that much tbh.
it doesn't really work as a first step towards them redeeming themselves and fixing their family because its kinda selfish and it didn't involve them really making any sort of personal sacrifice or even that much effort.
ya know its funny I just thought I'd make this post as a Random little thought since that's all this was I didn't actually expect to talk in depth and compare the movies stories this much lol.
I just started typing and got carried away 😂😂😂😂😂😂
anyway in short I love Brother Bear its a very adorable film and while its far from perfect in how it handles its story its flaws don't stop me from enjoying it.
since it still handled the more important parts of the story well enough.
unlike with Trolls 3 best thing I can say about it is that the movie version of "" Better Place "" is a legit great little song and frankly its too good for this film.
the story didn't earn such an emotional music piece in my opinion.

there are worst things i could do / eddie munson imagine
A/N: inspired by me being in a theatre group and just imagining Eddie being the super supportive best friend there is…
It’s show week. The week you have been working towards for the past 6 months, and tonight was your final show. You’re doing Grease and you got your dream role of Rizzo.
Eddie wasn’t particularly thrilled at you having to kiss your on-stage boyfriend even though you guys aren’t actually..together, but you never actually properly kiss him- you just stage kiss, turning your head in such a way to make it look as though you’re kissing.
Eddie waited for you after each rehearsal you had, eager to hear all about it. He loved hearing you sing There Are Worst Things I Could Do. You embodied the character of Rizzo, sauntering around the stage in your skirt and pink jacket, making eyes at various guys, particularly Kenickie, being played by Stuart- someone Eddie sat beside in Chemistry.
When your song started, you can’t help but catch eyes with Eddie, moving to sit down on the steps in front of stage, staring straight into his eyes.  In the climax of the song, you’re stood up, moving to lean against various bits of set, tears threatening to spill down your cheeks. You pull out a picture from your jacket’s pocket… meant to be of Kenickie, but it’s actually a Polaroid of Eddie you had taken, which just happens to tip your emotions over the edge.
I don’t steal and I don’t lie, but I can feel, and I can cry. A fact I bet you never knew… But to cry in front of you, that’s the worst thing I could do…
You sit down on the “bleachers” on stage, tears rolling down your face as the lights dim to black for the next scene to start up shortly after, allowing you to run off of stage.
-
Once the show ends, you’re in your dressing room getting changed with all of the other girls until there’s a gentle knock on the door. “One sec!” One of your co-stars yells, quickly glancing around to ensure everyone was fully dressed.
After a few minutes, she goes up to the door, gasping a little. “Y/N, its for you.” She says, turning back to you with a grin. You look confused and get up, sheepishly heading towards the door.
To your surprise, Eddie was there, with a big bouquet of flowers. “Eddie!” You say with a gasp, wrapping your arms around him. He just grins and holds you close. “You were amazing y/n..” He mumbles into your hair, pulling out of the hug and handing you the flowers.
You blush and look at him. “Thank you. That means a lot, and thank you for coming. I know this isn’t your usual scene.” You grin, sniffing the bouquet and grinning in response, completely missing the little card inside.
Eddie chuckles and shakes his head. “I’ll always come along and support you y/n.” He states with a smile, brushing a strand of hair out of your eyes. Your cheeks immediately burn up and you look right into his eyes. You move towards him a little closer, feeling the heat of his breath. You move forward and give him a small peck on the lips, before pulling right away from the situation, your entire body feeling flushed now. Eddie seems to be blushing too, grabbing a strand of his hair and pulling it in front of his face, a grin forming on his lips. “Hey.” He breathes out, moving forward and taking your free hand into his own. “Hey..” You mumble back, looking at your hands.
Eddie looks down at your outfit, his eyes catching your cleavage and the way your hips look in that skirt. You look at him, mentally following his gaze, blushing even more as you notice it’s still resting on your cleavage. “Hey!” You say with a laugh, causing him to snap out of it. He laughs too.
“God you guys are so awkward. Just get it over with.” Your cast mate, Lindsay who played Sandy says as she walks past you with Michael - who played Danny. “Yeah you two. Everyone can see it from a mile off!” Michael chimes in, flashing a smug smile at you both before leaving the building.
You and Eddie just stare at each other for a moment before you break the silence. “I uh, need to get out of this costume so Ms. Allen can take them to the dry cleaner. Could you wait for me?” You ask, smiling sweetly at him. Eddie just grins in response and nods, taking the flowers back from you.
You rush back into the dressing room and change fairly quickly, a few of your female cast mates were still there. “I kissed him.” You mumble to the girls - all of them gasping in response, followed by a load of ‘Oh my God’’s. You nod, taking some of the clips out of your hair. “And!?” Rebecca speaks up, taking off her French wig. “He got me flowers and held my hand after I kissed him.” You say, taking off your costume and switching into a dress, grabbing the polaroid of Eddie and placing it in your purse.
“Y/N he’s SO into you. When you go out there again, kiss him again.” Rebecca states with a grin, nudging you. You sigh, looking at her. “But it’s awkward.” “No Y/N, it’s not awkward unless you make it awkward.” She smiles at you. You sigh and nod in agreement, standing up and hanging your costume on the rail.
You take a deep breath, looking back at Rebecca, Hannah and Cat. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow at the diner?” You ask, raising your eyebrow. It was your group’s tradition - always going for a meal after a show to discuss things. The girls nod in response, putting their thumbs up at you. “Go get him girl.” Rebecca squeals.
You just laugh, opening the door to see Eddie stood, leaning against the wall - a rolled cigarette in his hands. You smile at him, walking straight up to him. “Hey. I’m ready.” You smile, taking the bouquet back from him. He grins in response, taking your hand. “Well, let’s go then, superstar.” He grins, running out of the building and heading straight to his beat up old car. He opens up the passenger side door for you, bowing at you. “My lady.” He says with a chuckle - causing you to roll your eyes in response before getting in.
As you’re sat in the car, you notice the card inside of the bouquet. You pick the card out and notice a quote from one of your favourite novels - Pride and Prejudice. “In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”
You blink in disbelief, staring at him as he gets in the car, tears welling up in your eyes. “You quoted Mr Darcy!” You say in disbelief, immediately reaching over and kissing him, not pulling away this time. Eddie just laughs a little against your lips before kissing you back.
“You told me it was a romantic novel..so I read it. And...it felt fitting.” He rambles, trailing off. “It’s true though. I really do admire and love you. And I’ve found it hard to act on these feelings. But not anymore. I decided tonight would be the night.” He blushes. You just grin at him. “I love you too, idiot.”
Eddie smiles over at you, giving your thigh a small squeeze. “Good, didn’t want to make things awkward.” He laughs, starting the car, beginning to drive back to your parents’ house.

Alright well I might as well give my thoughts on the movie
SPOILERS TURN BACK WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!
Okay we clear? Cool. So, The Super Mario Bros movie. It was good but I honestly had no doubt it wasn't gonna be good after seeing the trailers and the promos. Of course as with everyone else my only point of fear was Chris Pratt's voice, but while I was watching the movie I realized its actually okay. It never annoyed me and it even fits Mario somehow (yeah I said it come at me). Now that I'm thinking about it, if Charles Martinet was casted it really wouldn't have worked. Whenever we see Mario in the game he's always happy and bouncy, rarely ever serious or emotional so having a voice like that probably wouldn't have made the more serious parts of the movie work at all and at best I would've laughed at how ridiculous it was and at worst I would've been sinking far back into my chair. No disrespect to the guy at all, he does a phenomenal job in the games, but I just don't think he'd work too well in the movie. He does get a nod to in the movie which is great!
The movie is gorgeously animated and I love how the characters translated perfectly on the big screen. The backgrounds were spectacular. And the way the incorporate the elements of the games into the movie to create this world is *chefs kiss*. Everything makes sense and it's not too on the nose, it's believable.
It's a very simple movie, nothing too crazy and if you have very basic knowledge of the Mario franchise you'll get what's going on like how I did. All the characters acted perfectly to how I expected them to and nobody really annoyed me. My only problem is with Cranky Kong's voice. Sorry, but Fred Armisen's voice just doesn't match up with Cranky's appearance.
Jack Black absolutely killed it with Bowser. He was the perfect amount of comedy and intimidation. AND THE PEACHES SONG THREW ME SO OFF GUARD I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT JUST SIT AND STARE!!
Also, PEACH! Oh my god I loved Peach in this movie!! I was scared and honestly expecting her to be too much of a "strong female character" rather than a strong character who happens to be female and she's definitely the latter. She's kind, she's helpful, she's patient, she cares deeply about her subjects, kingdom and everyone in general and she can kick serious ass too. I'm gonna be honest, in my years of playing Mario on and off I never really cared for Peach, IM SORRY TO SAY, I WAS DUMB KID! But watching her in this movie, I absolutely love her!!! AND SHE GOT LORE ON TOP OF THAT?!??
Also usually I hate the whole male character and female character get shoehorned together and end up falling in love trope, but here? PERFECT!! I also never really cared for Mareach but, I'm a changed woman and I never wanted two characters to get together so bad. I absolutely loved their chemistry as it was so organic. Of course they don't which I'm fine with but, maybe potential in the sequel?
All the action sequences were done great in my opinion and actually exceeded my expectations in some cases as I was genuinely expecting nothing but slapstick but we got a healthy amount of slapstick and serious action.
The final battle and climax was amazingly done!! Ugh that hug Mario and Luigi shared was amazing!!!
Okay now for what I didn't like
I wish we had more Luigi scenes. I understand that he's the one who's kidnapped and is basically the whole reason the movie happens but we got only a few scenes with him either running away or being trapped or integrated. I would've loved maybe a scene with him trying to be brave and find a way out or rally others to help each other escape which could've added to his character. Like it's called The Super Mario BROS movie...
Also Toad is just...there. I get he's the comic relief but he really doesn't do much other than tag along. The most I remember him doing was showing Mario to the kingdom, that's it. Idk maybe do something more to flesh out his character, why is he so eager to help Mario and Peach? Why is he an adventurer? What are his goals? Stuff like that.
Also no chain chomps...worst movie, 0/10, D-tier/j
I heard people were talking about the pacing which yeah it's a little fast but it's not too quick in my opinion. I think if they let certain scenes play out longer it would've benefited the movie.
But over all it's a really good movie. Not ground breaking but really good, happy, healthy fun. And I'm quite impressed considering it came from Illumination.
Here's to hoping this movie will pave the way to a Zelda movie!!
