Something about Sanji crushing on Usopp pretty early in the story and only getting his goggles back in Alabasta because he is 19. And an idiot. And he is crushing hard. And he thinks that if he gets Usopp his goggles back the pretty boy will pay attention to him because they are silly pookie teenagers and he wants his crush to look at him.

SanUso-ism aside, it’s really disheartening how much Sanji and Usopp have been separated post-timeskip. Their relationship was built up so well pre-timeskip as characters that support and understand each other, fighting and laughing as good friends do. They spent so much time being motivated by each other’s words, actions, or mere existence. Wanting to protect each other and live up to each other’s expectations are huge motivations that drive important moments in the story (Alabasta, Skypeia, Water 7/Enies Lobby, and Sabaody in particular).

To go from that—these two being practically inseparable and integral to each other’s growth, to them barely even being in the same place at the same time feels like a betrayal of their friendship, if I want to be dramatic (I do).

I know post-ts focused more on the plot and moving the story along, but it really sucks that important Straw Hat relationships don’t seem to have any weight besides them being loyal crewmates. It’s undeniable that Sanji and Usopp have a special connection, so right now it all feels… dissatisfying. Like something is missing.

I’m just really holding out for a moment on Elbaf where Usopp protects Sanji and the rest of the crew. A speech that Usopp gives Sanji to re-iterate how important they are to each other and how they constantly, constantly push each other to do better. To feel stronger.

So yeah show Angel sucks. Removing his chunky gloves removed a lot of the fun shape in his silhouette so now he's just a gangly twink. Very little visual interest. Also hate hate hate how his new mismatched gloves are pulled over his long sleeve coat. So dumb. Hate it.

Also explain to me how he's gradually gotten less tits but has simultaneously become more femboy-ified..... So many people immediately mistake him for a girl.......

They also mistake him for. Literally anything but a spider. Once again Viv can't code or theme characters for shit. I also don't like how his face changed... I can't describe it but It's so much less appealing and charming. Something in the eyes and his little cheek bump. Idk. Really hate show Angel props to the animators for making him watchable with his bold animation ts was real nice

Okay onto my Angel! He's now a goldenrod crab spider now! Thank you @/cryptablog for this idea!! (Not tagging them bc they hate the hellaverse with a burning passion lol 💀) They can be white with pinkish markings like our og Angel but most of them are tinted yellow or completely yellow!

I decided to make him most similar to that mid ground mix of yellow and white with pink-er markings. 1 because I kept lust pink and I feel like that'd be a prominent sin of his (+ purple is in here a lot bc I feel like he'd also be pride aligned! Purple is now the pride color :3) and 2 because the yellow tone in his fur is kinda meant to connect him to Husk in a way... Cuz that's kinda his main color... Idk maybe I'm onto nothing with that one BUT his primary color is purple and Husk's primary color is yellow(ish)! Complimentary boyfriend's!!! Are you seeing my vision!!!!! (Also on a lesser note his colors look more similar to my fav version of Angel aka his design from the pre-pilot ref sheet I showed)

Another idea you can thank Cryptamen for is him being partially translucent in places just like real goldenrods!!!! The idea behind that was because he was in the mafia in life and he had to be really stealthy at times so now in certain environments he's harder to see... Maybe he can even turn fully invisible for a bit... There's also possible character reasons to consider tying in there as well... Ough very cool idea 10/10

Gave him 4 legs and 4 arms + the big abdomen to really make him scream spider bc yes spider boys can be hot and no Viv was not willing to CAPITALIZE on that 😒 Also lengthened his fangs... Also moved his eyes to his forehead to make them more prominent and hopefullyyyy seem more like eyes. Idk. And now he's got pointy little pedipalps as well!!!

Gave him his boobs back bc he deserves them and just generally gave his body more shape (though the second set of legs definitely helps lol). Slightly de-twinked... But not by much...

Once again looked up some common hairstyles at the time and people loooved their hairspray and curls, or swoops, or waves— they were gettin funky with it. Hard to emulate that on his nonhuman skull so I took some artistic liberties applying ideas from common styles onto him.

Didn't do much research at awl for his clothes... I mean... He's not wearing much to begin with... I kept the long gloves bc I thought they had potential to look cute and I have him rolled cuffs on short sleeves. Wanted to keep the style simple but otherwise I would've drawn button clasps keeping them in place. No notes on the thigh high heels so I kept them. Everything else is just kindaaaa whateverrrr EXCEPT THE NECKLACE. Though it was hella funny and fitting

I really think that while Zoro is more jealous (and has more opportunities to show it because Luffy is more outgoing and has a more inviting personality), Luffy is more possessive. Funny enough, this aligns nicely with their zodiac signs. Scorpio is often described as the most jealous sign or one of the most jealous among all the others while Taurus, although not necessarily the jealous type, is more of a "what's mine is mine, stay away" type. and yeah, I agree. tbh zoro's lowkey jealous streak is really funny to me bc he's weirdly selective about what sets it off and he's also aware there's no stopping luffy from doing whatever so. he just kinda has to bear with it. luffy though, now he's an interesting one.

thing is - luffy's never really had to fight for zoro's loyalty nor to keep him around. resort to a liiittle bit of blackmail to persuade him into joining the crew? yeah. demonstrate he can be a responsible/serious captain during certain circumstances? sure. there's the davy back fight where the entire crew was in danger of being snatched also but other than that, he's never had outsiders actively try to take zoro away from him, specifically. he likely doesn't know about the zoro who was asked to but refused to join baroque works unless he got to be the boss. the zoro he's known is the one who's content to be luffy's first mate/second in command and has reaffirmed luffy's position and authority as the captain before.

now imagine a scenario where someone who genuinely shares zoro's interests (in booze, swords, fighting for example) and whose attention zoro reciprocates bc of that. maybe they're a fellow swords fighter, a good one too, and zoro being zoro he's curious and eager to test his strength against them. while he's generally less extroverted than luffy, zoro usually gets along with other folks too y'know? and it's fine, zoro is cool and luffy likes it when others admire his friends.

the problem is when this person lets it slip or dares to suggest zoro should stop being a pirate. this conveniently (or purposefully) happens when zoro isn't present, of course. insists that being part of luffy's crew is what's stunting zoro's progress and that he'd be closer to achieving his dream on his own or at least if he were the one leading instead, which this person argues they can help with. not luffy or the crew, especially not luffy who's dragging him down...

...which is crazy, right. couldn't be. depending on the context, imo pre TS luffy would perhaps doubt himself a bit. zoro indeed has no interest in staying a pirate if not for luffy or the straw hats, he's said it before, not to mention how their fist meeting went. post TS luffy though - now that's vicious. imagine mixing up possessiveness with shit like conqueror's haki. either luffy's gonna end this person's career by forcing them to witness exactly how loyal zoro is to him (bc zoro is his, has been since the beginning) or directly gum gum their ass into oblivion.

under less threatening circumstances, I can see luffy being more chill though still pretty clingy and asserting his possessiveness more casually, maybe doing so kind of obliviously. ruining every single moment in which xy person tries to talk to zoro alone or while trying to initiate more physical contact, stuff like that. it'd be hilarious.

zoro - it's so fun to get dramatic with him. he's very perceptive, he always plays along no matter what, he knows when to push the intimidation (and is very good at it. eternal attack dog privilege ftw) & when to dial back. he also knows nami best/longest out of them, though that quickly stops making a difference in most contexts

usopp - OBVIOUSLY!! he is quite literally perfect in every grift you can think of. the only problem is that he starts fumbling when the other party at, say, the casino gets a lil too threatening/seems to be catching on. whereas nami (& zoro) chase the adrenaline he doesn't like to toe the line TOO much.

sanji - automatic 3rd b/c she gets annoyed with how he can't function when a hot woman so much as breathes his way (she doesn't even scam other women! not when she can help it!) or if it's a grift that requires him to get the least bit touchy with her. but he IS objectively GOOD at it.

GREAT WALL OF CHINA

400. luffy - she does not let him grift OR gamble with her. subtlety of a fucking toddler. derails every single grift/mini heist. NEGATIVE poker face, ESPECIALLY when he's actively trying. when she's forced to bring him along though he always notices something she hasn't because he is bizarrely perceptive like that, he just doesn't really care. unfortunately this also means he doesn't always care to inform her about what he observes. (luffy: "but you told me to keep quiet!!") he also has really good luck so if he manages to stay quiet and not attract attention he can act as a good luck charm. however that is impossible

(later) pre-ts:

usopp - everything stays the same AND he's getting better at keeping his cool. what's not to love. this is their bonding activity

zoro - nami has learned the hard way that they both CANNOT take themselves seriously for long when they are required to get touchy. he's also demoted bc he refuses to part with his swords, which is really quite inconvenient if she wants him to be her partner for, say, a gala dinner they're sneaking into.

sanji - still 3rd but a closer 3rd now!! stay strong sansan!! more on earlier, grifting with him isn't as effortless/fun as it is w usopp or zoro but that is in no way due to lack of skill on his part. he's not just good at landing a cover; he's strategic like zoro and flexible like usopp. plus, he just FITS into a high class setting with the seamlessness that neither usopp nor zoro have which makes him very, very useful for grifts requiring more formality. however due to his also aforementioned flaws he cannot hit top 2 im (not) sorry...... ALSO! this is partly bc im so sanamipilled but i do think that she's grown to enjoy the touchiness sometimes - and now she can admit it to herself. 's a fun little excuse for her to indulge sanji a bit, especially if their mark for the night is easy

robin - she is last bc she is usually simply not interested in all that. however she will creep people out with her general aura when needed!

post-ts:

usopp - everything is just so easy with him x2. they fall back into their dynamic and it's perfect and even BETTER than before because they're both a little out of practice after 2 years, but they've also both got new tricks up their sleeves. they don't get as many chances TO grift anymore in the new world though. always onto the next big adventure. plus now she's notorious enough that people actually RECOGNISE her in bigger cities/towns (she's not too happy about this)

sanji - he's been promoted :) but also demoted especially freshly post-ts bc of fishman island related crimes.

zoro - he doesn't let nami convince him into grifting with her anymore :-(( but if nami still requires someone to stand menacingly behind her as she extorts some rando then [mbappe voice] He Will Be There No Matter What

luffy stays the same :p

chopper is too young to be engaging in these activities & franky and brook are wayy too conspicuous. jinbei just joined they do not have the time for that shit yet. also i havent read beyond wano

The Live Action

There’s a lot of things that I preferred in the live action. (since it was the hook that reeled me into the world of kobymeppo/meppokoby 🤭)

They have more interaction and meppo doesn’t have as much of a golden stick of nepotism up his ass (as he did the episode of kobymeppo in the anime) he’s more (how do i say this) gentle and low-tempered,

i just can’t wait to see their interactions when they do the adaptation of the diary of kobymeppo!! *squeal* and i can’t wait to see their interaction with one another at marineford too!

i can’t wait to see them as chore boys as well🤭

Anime

I was watching the anime before i watched the live action, but around the end of water 7 when we see their glow ups i had that ultimate thought (“wait, do people ship koby and helmeppo together?”)

after searching it up and with that thought in hand, i went to go watch opla (not because of the ship thing i watched bc my brothers were watching it too)

and after the infamous bar scene and looking through tumblr for like minded folks my life and view on them has never been the same since (the kobymeppo fungus entered my brain) so watching the anime after opla was a breeze 😁 (it was not 😭)

When I first started marineford, every time they were together on screen i couldn’t help but smile 😭😭 ace’s death wasn’t even the worst part of the arc for me, it was me seeing the pink and yellow speckled flower of shounen-ai blooming in front of me🩷💛

just seeing them together made me TWEAAAK‼️‼️‼️😭😭

What I Don’t Like About The Canon

The vivre cards and due to them the “age gap” between them. and the no-funners that persist on using them. (whether they acknowledge it or not) This is the ONLY thing that i don’t like about the canon

The vivre cards state that koby pre-ts is 16 while helmeppo is 20 (4 year gap)

Ocean (cobymeppocean) made some age headcanons for them and I really like them so i have those headcanons too but some no-funner on twitter (the screenshot was taken on nitter bc i didn’t have twitter back then, do NOT find this person’s account i block on both twitter and here.)

they were pretty much shitting on his headcanons and they didn’t even bother to CENSOR HIS USERNAME.

be aware, their ages have been ambiguous for YEARS it was only in 2018 that their ages have been “confirmed”. The ages strawhats have been confirmed since VOLUME 4 (over TWO DECADES AGO.) that’s too many years too late!

And along with the yamato/kiku trans “discourse” is actually the main reason why i refuse to see the vivre cards as actual resources for ANYTHING one piece related.

But with that, that’s really all i have to say about them, really! I love them so much 🥰

a. we don't actually know how they decide to let or allow jongho to only receive injections and medication. jongho's condition was explained by an indonesian orthopedic surgeon who said that NORMALLY injection and medication COULD aid and alleviate the pain but considering jongho's occupation and activity (i.e. dancing), recurrence is expected and it needed a more permanent solution. also, jongho is a grown ass adult, let's not baby him too much (despite me wanna go goochie goochie goo and tuck him into bed with warm milk and cookies) and think that jongho is incapable of making a huge decision for his own health no matter the consequence

b. "kq put them in crazy schedules" it's literally the pitfalls of being idols my ghawd do you want them to not tour and expand their reach and just sit pretty with one comeback a year ??? sure, they could do that but they'll need money to get better production quality like you buying one album per comeback or one album per version is not enough to even cover the shoe budget, do you think those things are cheap ??? considering album sales are not pure as it's separated as distributor and company and from the company's cuts, it's further broken down and ateez will only get a sliver if any, they have to depend on miscelaneous schedules like radio, tv shows, joint concerts, festivals, etc. And no it's not unfair because there are calculations put in place and no matter what you do, the cuts will never be enough but at least from what we see, ateez is living rather well

c. compared to the big 4 (ion even wanna get into TS, cube, mld, mbk, etc. bc yuck) kq is a far better situation for ateez and xikers. like we haven't heard much from xikers, but we know that ateez praises kq. hongjoong even said that kq's ceo goes everywhere with them on tour (hj said this on the singapore concert) except for the show in manila bc he had a prior engagement. and dude, the gifts the ceo gave ateez and the fact that kq didn't put ateez on diets they don't want and how the staff interacts with ateez and ateez with the staff. idk, i've only been seeing green flags so far. ofc no one is perfect but again, compared to jyp who made momo eat only ice cubes to achieve her target weight so she can debut, or shoving all of seventeen in one tiny ass dorm that didn't seem like there were any blankets around during pre-debut, or putting the members on a leash and treating them like dogs like infinite, i actually love kq. I've liked kpop for over a decade now, since i was like in 5th grade and i've truly never seen a happier group than ateez.

Tourettes Awareness Month, May 26th!

Kinda lost track of the days so just gonna stop counting them and just do the date instead 😅

Today I'm going to go over some of my pet peeves/frustrations that are related to my tics/TS, or people reacting to it. Some of these I've mentioned before but I'll try to include new ones as well, don't mind my bitter old man persona coming out lol.

⚠️Everyone who has TS or tic disorders will have different experiences, this is just mine

Dentists!

So I have had a lot of bad experiences with dentists, even before my tics were severe enough to be diagnosed and now its even worse. Bc I'm anxious for the dentist, my tics can actually get really bad in the days leading up to it and the day of. I'm also prone to shut downs with dental stuff, so it's almost a double whammy. Luckily my most recent experiences with dentists have been really positive, and they've been extremely patient with me. However when I get a bad dentist the experience pretty much back tracks all the progress I had been making with the good ones.

It can just be really hard to manage my tics during an appointment, and I'm more prone to tic attacks in the days leading up to said appointment, even if I know who I'm seeing is good. This is starting to pass now tho and I actually went back with the dentist on my own for the first time since I was 7 or so last month.

Sleep interrupting!

Being too tired to sleep is a pretty common occurrence for me, unfortunately. When I'm sleep deprived I get more tics than usual, especially in my legs. Usually my legs don't tic bc I sit in ways that make it difficult (criss cross, one leg under the other, on my knees, ect), but when I'm laying down to sleep, it's much harder to find a position that stops leg tics. If I can't stop them, I end up kicking myself over and over, usually right as I'm about to fall asleep so I kick and I'm wide awake again. Some nights it only happens for like 10min and then I can sleep, but other nights it'll be HOURS. On the longer nights I'll try to sleep with my legs crossed or sitting up criss cross, but that's really hard to do sometimes. Most of the times on those nights I just give up on sleeping all together. The days after I don't sleep, I'm more twitchy and prone to attacks, then I either am allowed to sleep that night or just pass out from exhaustion after an attack.

Pre-tic premonition!

Sometimes I'll know I'm about to tic, and I can see I'm going to hurt myself or I know I'm going to throw something and there is literally nothing I can do, I'm just stuck knowing until the tic hits unless I suppress it, which doesn't always works, usually causes recoil, and can HURT.

Thunder!

So I used to love thunderstorms, and find peace in them, but as my tics got more severe, my relationship with thunder changed. Rolling thunder is okay but booming thunder makes me tic like crazy, as in when it's frequent enough I will tic myself dizzy or give myself a migraine. I of course live in a thunderstorm heavy area 😅

People!

I was going to get into this a lot but honestly the stories kinda deserve their own post, mainly bc it'd be long and people may want to skip it bc the stories could be triggering so I'll generalize here-

1. People making me tic on purpose (luckily a rare occurrence but a really fucking shitty one)

2. People staring (yes its strange, and I understand glancing at me but sometimes people just stare until my tics stop but if I know someone is staring I tic more from the anxiety)

3. Stereotypes (a given)

4. Asking me questions while I'm actively having a tic attack (99% of the time I'm super open about questions but people sometimes don't ask until I'm having a severe attack even if they've seen minor tics or know I'm tourettic)

5. Balloon decor (maybe I'm biased bc I haven't been somewhere w balloon decor since prom but it seems anytime balloons are used as decor there is at least one person intent on popping them)

6. Immediately panicking when I start ticcing (it's less frequent now w people who know me but as soon as people know my tics CAN be caused by something negative they seem to think they are ALWAYS caused that way, no matter what I say so they start panicking and asking what's wrong and won't take "nothing is wrong" as an answer which stresses me out and makes me tic more)

7. 4th of July (this makes me sound like a scrooge and a hypocrite bc I like fireworks. I also don't mind headphoning up and blocking it out for a bit, but for some reason people around me celebrate from 6pm to 3am, July 1st-July 7th, and it's not even dark until 8pm or later)

i quite liked sabaody as well, it was so fun to finally meet kid and law's crews, and its a very pretty location visually, though most of it i was just so pissed off by the antagonists + the end part was (to me) so tense even though i knew the outcome efwdshbjds i was so stressed 😭

everything is getting so serious and yeah like you said it feels like 100 things are about to happen all at once AND everyone is all split up its like. umm can we not do this guys....and again i know where the pre-ts story ends and well it sucks. but im really enjoying the show so we must persevere fejdsnds

I just saw your reply! I totally agree that he's got such an interesting relationship with grief, home, and the rest of the Faerghus 4. In playing Silver Snow I'm so fascinated by the way some of Felix's lines post-time skip are Dimitri lines pre-timeskip. I think they're fascinating foils for each other: the former is obviously dark and edgy but has a stronger sense of purpose and light, while the other appears to be light and respectable but has darkness underneath. Thoughts?

I absolutely agree that they're foils. It's even more apparent if you recruit Felix in Crimson Flower and he gets the ~zero growth~ arc - he acknowledges it himself in some monastery dialog, which is cool. Also, speaking of switching lines, in Azure Moon they do have a nearly literal line reversal moment from pre- and post-ts.

It's also interesting bc it's not just that they switch who is giving the advice, but also exactly what the advice is, though they're in agreement in both cases. "I don't want to fight a friend > You don't have a choice > true, but you can look away" vs "We may have to fight a friend > If we do, I'd like to look away > looking away won't change what you'll have done." So they remain in lockstep during that shift, despite their external states being so different.

idk, I've gone into the question of their coping mechanisms and dynamic before, here and here, so I won't add too much more now, it's just interesting how they handle the same core conflict and principles so differently.

Both are pretty forthcoming about their criticisms of the culture they come from, both are afraid of losing things they love to what they see as needless sacrifice, and of course, both have something of a death wish tied to crushing survivor's guilt. Felix outright pushes away other people who want to reach out to him, and Dimitri (perhaps inadvertently) rejects the attempts people make to connect with him and thus alienates them. I think both feel that their grief can't be reconciled with the values held by their friends, values which are deeply at-odds with their own experiences. And they're not wrong, really. There's a hell of a chasm in understanding between those two and everyone else, but while you would hope that gives them common ground, it obviously doesn’t. They just have very different notions of choice and guilt and blame, and they internalize different pieces of it, so they come out at odds with one another.

Was reading your Sabosanuso posts and OMG- I'M OBCESSED WITH THEM !!

(So now I'm thinking about a mix with the AU where Sanji and the ASL meet during childhood, and a little angst of course)

Sanji and ASL meet during childhood and Sabosan have a crush on each other, Sabo dies etc. So, during pre-ts Usopp and Sanji... start to fall in love with each other, and this makes Sanji confused bc he never stoped having this "crush" for Sabo but- but fells nice feeling this again.

Timeskip happens and they still love each other, and Usopo really thinks that maybe he "can win Sanji's heart, but then- Sabo comes to visit the StrawHats and y'know, Sabosan have the chance the see each other and the crew discovers about Sanji knowing Luffy And his brothers since a kid. Usopp knows Sanji loves Sabo the moment he sees the look the cook gives the older guy, and this breaks his heart, because of course Sanji would love someone like Sabo and not him!

But- he starts to talk with Sabo and- wow. He- he can understand now. He ends up talking with Sabo about Sanji somehow and discovers the rev also loves Sanji and for him it's over, he knows how this will end (with Sabosan happy and together, and not him with Sanji).

So Sabosan happens and Usopp is... sad but also happy bc- because Sanji's happy. But what he don't know is that Sabo and Sanji are deeply in love with him, and talking about asking him out. So one night Sabo calls Usopp to the kitchen bc he and Sanji want to talk with him and tell him they're in love with him.

Usopp, who was falling in love with Sabo and already in love with Sanji, who was intenting to stop this feeling, definitely is surprised, but it's a good surprise so he will not complain.

Aghhh I love this so so so so much.

Usopp is jealous of Sabo at first but then he gets to know him and feels guilty for even being mad at him because he is a total sweetheart. He gets why Sanji likes him. And he understands why, of course, Sabo is in love with Sanji. So he lets it happen without getting in the way of their relationship but it's killing him a bit. He thinks he doesn't have any chances with them, so he gives up.

But I can totally imagine Sabo not giving a single fuck about labels or monogamy and Sanji being all worried to tell him about his feelings for Usopp,, Until he realizes Sabo doesn't care and actually he likes Usopp too, and it's a constant:

Sabo: Okay, so we tell him today?

Sanji: Yes! No! I mean. Yes. Of course. Wait, no! Not ready-

And Sabo has to deal with Sanji coming to terms with telling Usopp because he's scared of whether Usopp will feel the same, but Sabo KNOWS Usopp feels the same. Sanji is acting stupid.

They end up dating, though, of course. Sabo manages to calm down Sanji and convince him to confess and invite Usopp to their relationship. I think the funny part is when Sabo says something like "we don't have to do anything, if you just want to be with Sanji, that is completely alright to me-" and Usopp goes "No! I- I mean. Hahaha. God Usopp wouldn't mind gracing you with his love and- And all. Hahaha. Also, I really like you too-".

And that is how these three idiots start dating and being the most annoying clingiest throuple in the sea.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

i was just listening to the man from u.n.c.l.e.'s sountrack the other day while drawing sanji, and i think it would be fun to see him in a spy movie or something similar hehe :]c

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

sanji was a very striking character to me with the long inky line his suits made on the page! i first read one piece at like 11 so i probably didn't have many meta thoughts - most of my enjoyment was the visual language. i really enjoyed how gestural he looked!!

now, he's very beloved to me. this is mixed in with my disdain for the perv act that's worsened (if not the severity, bc pre-ts has some just-as-bad moments, then more of... a bad joke that's gone on for WAY too long), which is such a shame bc i feel like there is so much to love abt his chara if not for oda's misogynistic/transphobic projections. he's just a really good chara that unfortunately always undercuts himself (cough undercut by oda). i bet on losing dogs etc ...

On the topic of costumes (since we’ve been doing costume polls lately) I’ve been watching a bunch of old skating comps (‘02-08) [however mostly singles and pairs bc I find it very hard to watch ice dancing that’s not VM] and in watching 2002 worlds (the worlds after the Salt Lake Olympics- ie the pairs scandal, ie the the death of the 6.0 system) and watching the ice dance competition the.. audacity of the costuming- specifically in the FD- and the comments on it (Rod and Tracey from TSN).. and I know it was a different time fashion wise, but the fact that ice dancing is (was supposedly at that time) a “sport” and to think.. not just that it would actually look good, but it’s right to come out and perform a sporting program in the stuff they were wearing. I’ll link it here so you can watch for yourselves and listen to the commentary. I can’t imagine dancing in the stuff these people were wearing just from a physical perspective, but did they actually think this looked good?? Like why didn’t someone stop them. It was embarrassing and any potentially good skating skills/dance ability was completely hidden. It’s just insane how much this sport changed in.. 4 years- between this point and VM arriving in seniors.

Essentially this rant is part of my constant exasperation that this actually managed to remain a ‘sport’ (oops putting ‘sport’ in quotes again) and at this same time two little muchkins in south-west Ontario who had recently won pre-novice nationals were really only a few years away from bringing credibility back to this sport (not my words- those of people who know far more than I do). And in doing these costumes polls, you can see that from the moment they hit seniors they arrived with a maturity and sophistication I don’t think this sport had seen in a long time. T in a simple, elegant dress with her hair and makeup beautifully done, and S in a simple white blouse and black trousers. And they simply danced. And as the smallest and youngest team they came into seniors and made a definitive mark and said “we are ice dance, the quintessential meaning of it. This is a sport and an art and we are going to be the ones to set the tone”.

No of course it wasn’t them purely alone, they had coaches that were working to the new system and pushing the technical possibilities- but in TS they had the perfect team to make this a reality - DW’s skating skills are light years behind VM’s, no other up and coming team was close to VM athletically or artistically, and by 2010, the difference was clear- the new system teams from the old with VM far in the lead. And maybe most obvious that difference was in costuming- several teams in 2010 still dressed with the distaste and artistic deafness of (some of the teams) 8 years earlier.

Ok sorry that got longer than expected but it was just something I was thinking about.

Here is the "K"

He's the same age as luffy (9 when the Fallen Pirates get their start, 17 pre-ts, 19 post-ts)

His attacks are apl named after various celestial bodies (e.g. Deneb Strike = basic claw attack, Southern Cross = backflip/cross-slashing with claws attack, Plough (the plough is an alternate name for the big dipper) Rush = sliding/clawing attack like the one Cat Mario does in Super Mario 3d World, etc.)

When they start out as pirates, Ace, Sabo, Luffy and Kamille mostly just hang around Dawn Island bc they're kids, but around this point Kamille gets ahold of the cat-cat fruit. They really get their start when Luffy is 17 like in canon. During the proper pre-ts era the strawhats are mostly just a combo of the canon SHs and the Spade Pirates, plus a few others under Sabo and Kamille

Also Garp once got Bright to babysit SLAK once before he left the marines and formed the Fallen Pirates. They tried to use him as tiger bait :)

Also some more DFs for the Fallen Pirates: Kai gets the Rat-Rat Fruit (i always default to zoans lolol) and Hayato gets the Mud-Mud Fruit (a logia).
